Baguio City has gotten closer and closer to Manila. What used to be an eight-hour drive was shortened to six. And now, if conditions are right, you can reach the City of Pines in only four hours.

But it’s not just the travel time that underwent major changes. Even when you’re taking public transportation, the quality of the journey has vastly improved too. Not only is the ride smoother — thanks to our expressways — the experience onboard the new buses are a lot more pleasant now. It’s no wonder why more and more people choose to visit Baguio these days.

Baguio is only 4-6 hours away from Manila, depending on which part of Manila you’re coming from, which route the bus takes, and whether or not it makes a stop along the way. Regular buses usually take Dau Exit (NLEX) or Concepcion Exit (SCTEX) and make at least one stop. Travel time is around 6 hours.

But the past few years have seen the rise of luxury buses that take passengers straight to Baguio! Victory Liner also introduced their first class buses, giving their loyal customers a more comfortable option. JoyBus has a fleet that is made up entirely of deluxe and premier buses. And most recently, Pangasinan Solid North Transit has also launched their own P2P buses to Baguio. These buses take every expressway ahead and they don’t make any stop, cutting down the travel time to only 4-5 hours.

In this post, we’ll share with you the schedules and fares of these premium P2P buses!

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

JoyBus is the luxury arm of Genesis Transport. They only have two classes: Deluxe (aka Executive) and Premier . Both Premier and Deluxe classes are 28-seater executive coaches with 3 seats per row (2+1), ensuring a wide leg room and plenty of moving space. Each booking comes with free snacks, free bottled water, and free wi-fi. But here’s the difference:

• Premier Class is their top class with USB ports and a personal entertainment device. In our experience, the movie selection is still pretty limited, but since you only have four hours to burn, it’s not that bad. All premier buses also have a restroom onboard and blankets.
• Deluxe/Executive Class has no USB ports or personal entertainment device at all. There is a TV screen in front, like regular buses, but that’s about it as far as entertainment is concerned. I’m not sure if all executive units have an in-bus comfort room but there was one in the bus we tried.

VICTORY LINER First Class

Just to clarify, Victory Liner is not entirely a luxury bus line. Most of their buses are your regular air-conditioned buses. But they now operate a few first-class journeys per day, taking TPLEX/Pozzorubio with no stops.

FIRST CLASS buses have bigger legroom, free snacks, free water, free wifi, and a restroom onboard. Note, however, that they don’t have personal entertainment devices installed.

SOLID NORTH P2P Bus

The latest bus company to launch a P2P bus service to Baguio is Pangasinan Solid North, which operates from PITX (Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange) and uses TPLEX to reach Baguio.

They have two classes available:

• Luxury Class. 28-seater bus with 3 seats per row (2+1). Equipped with in-bus restroom, Lazy Boy seat recliner, free wifi, and USB charging ports. Complimentary snacks and bottled water are also provided.
• Super Deluxe Class. 45-seater with 4 seats per row (2+2). Equipped with in-bus restroom, free wifi, and USB charging ports. They also provide complimentary snacks and bottled water.

Whenever I go home to Baguio, I always ride the cheapest Victory Liner bus which takes me 6-7 hours to reach the city. It’s a bit of a stressful ride especially when the holidays come in and you sit in the middle aisle.

When I was still in Manila during our board exam review days, I once had the chance to ride the bus to Baguio deluxe JoyBus of Genesis bus not because I wanted to but because it was the only bus available.

The trip from Manila to Baguio only took 3 to 5 hours. Not only was it fast but it was comfortable and convenient. Impressive, huh?

About JoyBus Buses

Here’s a short tour inside the JoyBus Premier bus.

Now, what if I tell you there’s a better bus to Baguio than the deluxe Genesis bus? Genesis Transport has launched its JoyBus Premiere Class Bus which will only take you 4 hours to reach the city of Pines!

When I heard about the new JoyBus Premiere Class of Genesis bus, I just had to try and experience it firsthand.

True enough, when I stepped inside the bus, it was different than most buses. For starters, it’s almost like you’re in a first-class seat of an airline.

With JoyBus Premiere Class Genesis bus, you get to enjoy:

• More spacious legroom compared to the deluxe buses (29 seats with 3 seats per row – 2×1)
• An entertainment system for playing games, reading news/ebooks, watching movies or listening to music (with a USB Port where you can charge your mobile phones)
• Warm Blanket
• Comfort Room
• Tray Tables like the ones in the airplane (Plus a cup holder)
• FREE Biscuits and Bottled Water
• Bus Attendant

JoyBus Executive

Aside from JoyBus Premiere, you also have the option to ride the JoyBus Executive and JoyBus Deluxe. But what makes these different from each other?

Compared to the JoyBus Premiere, JoyBus Executive does not have an entertainment system, a USB port or a tray table. The seats in the Premiere bus are also thicker.

Aside from those, Joy Bus Executive still offers a spacious leg room, reclining chair and a toilet inside the bus. Just like Premiere, the Executive bus has 29 seats arranged as 3 seats per row (2×1).

JoyBus Deluxe

If you’re on a budget but want to travel to Baguio without any stopovers, your best option is the Joybus Deluxe. Unlike the Executive and Premiere buses, the Deluxe bus has 4 seats per row (2×2) and a total of 44 seats.

This means it’s less spacious but it does have a toilet.

JoyBus Reminders

• The bus doesn’t have any stopovers from Cubao to Baguio. So bring lots of food if you get hungry a lot since the free biscuit doesn’t really do an excellent job at satiating your hunger.
• The entertainment system placed behind the seats only has a few games, movies, and music.
• Currently, the bus route is from Pasay to Baguio City with a stopover in Cubao. They don’t have a NAIA3 to Baguio route. They only have a NAIA3 to Clark route.
• When choosing a seat, you can either take the right side where you won’t have any seatmate or the left side which is perfect if you have a friend with you.

I get a lot of questions about the JoyBus Premiere bus so I decided to put it all here. Hopefully, these will also answer your questions.

Do we have to reserve a ticket online or is a walk-in possible?

Walk-ins are allowed. But if you’re traveling on a holiday or a long weekend, it’s best to reserve your tickets online. I made the mistake of not booking a ticket ahead and I had to wait in line for hours!

Are there any NAIA to Baguio buses from JoyBus?

No there’s none. There’s only a Baguio to NAIA 3 route for JoyBus. The JoyBus parked at NAIA3 is only going to Clark and not Baguio. If you are on a budget and don’t want to spend a lot on taxi, you can take the shuttle bus at Terminal 3 going to MRT Pasay. Fare is at 20 pesos. The last bus stop is the terminal of JoyBus in Pasay. If you’re having a hard time locating the bus, just ask the guards. (Thanks Vince for sharing this info!)

When can we claim our tickets?

You can claim the tickets 1 to 2 hours before the departure time.

Is there any senior or student discount when booking online?

According to Genesis Transport, “To avail of the 20% discount, Senior Citizens, PWDs and Students must show their respective IDs. For students, please make sure that the school is within this current school year and you’re not taking Master’s or Doctorate degree. You will need to book first as a regular passenger then we’ll have the 20% discount refunded by the time you exchange the travel voucher for a boarding pass.”

How long is the bus ride?

It’s usually 4 to 6 hours. But if your trip is from Cubao to Baguio scheduled at night, it’s 4 hours. If it’s from Pasay, you can expect a longer time since the bus still stops over at the Cubao terminal.

it’s in Pasay Rotonda 🙂 The bus terminal entrance is fronting Metropoint Mall and is right at the back of Sogo Hotel, McDonalds and Chowking outlets.

Update as of Jan 22, 2018, Joybus doesn’t have a NAIA3 to Baguio route so you have to board at the Pasay terminal. The ones parked at NAIA3 are going to Clark.

A good choice but stewardess not so helpful unlike victory liner de luxe. Should go around the bus more often and check comfort room if clean. Victory Liner have really clean comfort rooms on board

Hi! I was wondering if you knew the difference between the location of the Joybus Pasay and “new” Pasay terminals? I’m planning to book via iWantSeats but there are the Pasay and the “new” Pasay options and I’m not sure which is which or if they are the same one. Hi Faye, I don’t know what or where the ‘new’ Pasay terminal is. Sorry about that. If your trip starts from Pasay, it’ll be around 5 hours since the bus still stops at the Cubao terminal for a few minutes.

Seems like there is no working contact number for Joy bus or genesis for inquiry, tried calling all the numbers posted, one number is ringing but no one is answering while the rest of the numbers could not be contacted. If you book online Pasay to Baguio, can you board the Joy bus parked at NAIA terminal 3 using the ticket booked online.

From what I know, I don’t think you can. You have to go to their Pasay terminal (it’s the nearest to the airport). But I’ll have to check this with Genesis. Thanks for asking.

I just messaged their Facebook Page and the reply I got was that they don’t have a NAIA3 to Baguio route. You have to board at their terminal in Pasay.

Thanks for the info Johan. This is very helpful. For those travelling with tight budget from outside manila through NAIA T3 and who are heading to Baguio. You can take the shuttle bus at T3 going to Baclaran, MRT Pasay which will cost you 20 pesos only (Taxi is around 100-150). The bus last stop is at the parking area of Joy Bus terminal in Pasay. Ask the guards if you are having difficulty locating the bus at T3.

Hungary signals it's serious about sending buses of asylum seekers to EU headquarters

Hungary’s anti-immigrant government is signaling that it is serious about implementing a plan to provide asylum seekers free one-way travel to Brussels

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Hungary's anti-immigrant government signaled Friday that it is serious about implementing a plan to provide asylum seekers free one-way travel to Brussels, a measure meant to pressure the European Union into relenting on heavy fines against the country for its restrictive asylum policies.

At a news conference in the capital Budapest, State Secretary Bence Rétvári claimed the EU wanted to force Hungary to allow “illegal migrants” across its borders, and said the country would “offer these illegal migrants, voluntarily, free of charge, one-way travel to Brussels."

Backdropped by a row of passenger buses with illuminated signs reading “Röszke-Brussels” — a route that would take migrants from Hungary's southern border with Serbia to the EU headquarters in Belgium — Rétvári said the transport would be conducted “after the implementation of the European procedure,” but did not detail what status the asylum seekers would have upon being transported.

“If Brussels wants illegal migrants, Brussels can have them,” he said.

The provocative proposal to bus migrants to Brussels, which echoes similar moves taken earlier by right-wing Republican governors in the United States, comes in response to a June ruling by the European Court of Justice that ordered Hungary to pay a fine of 200 million euros ($216 million) for persistently breaking the bloc’s asylum rules, and an additional 1 million euros per day until it brings its policies into line with EU law.

The bloc takes issue with Budapest for forcing people seeking international protection to travel to Hungarian embassies in Serbia or Ukraine to apply for a travel permit, violating EU rules that oblige all member countries to have common procedures for granting asylum.

The government of nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said it will file legal proceedings against the EU over the fines, and has demanded compensation for the billions it says it has spent on border protection including the construction of fences protected by razor wire on its southern borders with Serbia and Croatia.

Orbán, a consistent opponent of the EU on issues ranging from immigration to foreign policy to support for Ukraine, has cast his long-serving government as a defender of Europe's Christian culture, and has come under fire for comments saying Hungary did not want to become a “mixed race” nation.

The EU has frozen billions for his government over breaches of the bloc's rule-of-law and democracy standards, and some EU lawmakers have petitioned for Hungary to be stripped of its voting rights in the bloc's executive Commission.

Hungary's government missed the first September deadline for paying the 200-million euro fine ordered by the European Court of Justice, opening the way for potentially another conflict with the EU.
