Most of the locks on this list hold your trailer in place by blocking the receiver hitch or the pin that holds it in place. This one physically secures your trailer instead by locking the wheels and stopping them from turning. It's the same kind of lock that police use when you haven't paid your parking tickets, but this time you can remove it when you'd like.

The wheel clamp fits through the wheel and locks in place, which stops the wheel from being rotated forward or backward. If they want to move your trailer, it will have to be dragged or pulled onto a flat bed. The wheel cover makes sure that criminals can't just remove the trailer wheels and put new ones on to bypass it. You can use just one or you can use multiple to secure all of your wheels and really make it a challenge to steal.

If you have never heard of the Reese brand, the company was originally founded in 1952 and is a household name in the heavy-duty towing industry, as well as a market leader in automotive and recreational product solutions. Reese's Towpower hitch lock is a good way to guard against trailer tow-away theft.

Cocoweb’s C-Lock heavy-duty hitch pin lock comes in 1/2- and 5/8-inch sizing. The 1/2- and 5/8-inch pins are available in silver, while the 5/8-inch pin features a black finish. This trailer lock from Master Lock is designed to fit most trailer couplers, ranging from 1 7/8 inch to 2 5/16 inch. This product is “keyed alike,” which means they all use the same key. So if a thief has access to the key, there’s a good chance they’ll be able to easily unlock this trailer lock. The benefit to “keyed alike” products is that one key will unlock all your Master Lock locks, but it’s a strange price to pay for convenience.

This trailer lock is a solid, heavy-duty product that is well-built and durable. So long as a potential thief doesn’t have access to a key, it’s one of the toughest locks to break off.

Proven's locks aren't for everyone. The #2516 is a 10-pound, ‎8.15 x 7.76 x 7.6-inch slab of solid steel made in the USA by a family-owned and -run company. They offer multiple models in 2- and 2-5/16-hitch sizes, as well as specialty locks for things like Jayco trailers and Titan hitches.

As some of the most highly rated trailer hitch locks on the market, Proven gives you both cut and picking protection lacking in less expensive models, as well as securing your safety chains. But expensive is the keyword, as Proven trailer locks play in the same price bracket as the Amplock. However, if you're leaving an expensive trailer with valuable cargo somewhere, it makes sense to spend a little more to protect it.

As their name suggests, a hitch or trailer lock is designed to keep your trailer from getting stolen. A hitch lock is a product that keeps your trailer hitch and receiver together, with the lock preventing someone from lifting the receiver. This ensures that a thief isn’t able to unhitch the trailer unless the lock is off.

A trailer lock, also known as a coupler lock, keeps your trailer safe when it’s unhitched from your vehicle. Without a coupler lock, someone can simply drive up to your trailer, hitch it, and drive off. These locks fit over the coupler on the trailer’s tongue, preventing someone from hooking up their vehicle and driving off.

Essentially, a hitch or trailer lock plays the role of an insurance policy. Without one of these locks, a savvy thief can drive off with your trailer in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a lock that will completely prevent a thief from stealing your property if they want it badly enough and have the time to break off the lock. But locks do serve as a deterrent and some may cause enough of a struggle that the thief gives up.

A trailer hitch lock is your first line of defense against an unattended trailer being stolen. Without one, a thief can literally back a truck up to it and drive off, and that happens all the time. It's the sort of crime that happens in broad daylight. Adding even a simple hitch lock means someone is now going to have to use tools and make noise to get to your trailer, which is enough to make people drive on to the next target.

But there's one big weakness that even an indestructible AMPLOCK or Proven hitch lock can't overcome: The coupler itself. On many trailers, especially smaller ones, the coupler that attaches the trailer to the tow vehicle's ball hitch is held on with a few bolts. As you can pick up a cheap replacement for about $20, it's possible to unbolt the hitch ball coupler from the trailer straight tongue, bolt on a new one, and drive off leaving your nice lock coupler on the ground. One option is to tack weld your bolts on. That's secure, but you'll have to grind off the welds if you ever need to replace the coupler. An easier option is to add a trailer chock lock to one of the trailer wheels. Now, there's another layer of protection that will need different tools to remove, taking more time and making more noise.

Of course, you could always just take your own trailer wheels and tires with you. It'll take a few minutes to jack it up, put it on blocks and take your wheels and tires with you, but it's very hard to steal a trailer without tires. And if you're storing it for a long time, it's also much easier on your tires—they'll be much less likely to be flatspotted or rotted.

Before you start shopping, you’ll need to determine your hitch class if you’re shopping for a hitch lock. Hitches range from Class I to Class V, and not all hitch locks will support up to Class V hitches. Generally, most trailer locks are either 1/2- or 5/8-inch pins and you’ll need to make sure the lock works with your hitch before purchasing. Generally, Class II hitches use 1/2-inch pins, while Class III to Class V hitches use 5/8-inch pins.

When shopping for a hitch or trailer lock, you’ll want to pay close attention to the material it’s constructed from. You will ideally want to purchase a product made from high quality steel, or even hardened steel. Softer metals like aluminum may be lightweight, but they’re easy to damage, allowing a thief to simply take a hammer to your lock.

The next important factor is seeing whether the lock uses a unique key, or if the key design is shared across an entire product’s lineup. Naturally you will want a product that is uniquely keyed, so you don’t have to worry about a thief potentially having a key to your lock.

Depending on where you live and your weather conditions, make sure you invest into a lock that can withstand harsh weather conditions. Some products will corrode and rust quicker than others, potentially causing the lock to seize up. Check user reviews if you live in an area that sees snow or rain, as a rusted keyhole will cause you many headaches. At the very least, make sure you purchase a product that has a weatherproof cap for the keyhole.

If you’re purchasing a trailer or coupler lock, make sure it fits your exact application. Although many products are advertised as being universal, some may not work with certain trailers or hitches. Now let’s get into what’s really important when you’re performing a side-by-side comparison of keyless entry door lock for your RV.

This one is, admittedly, a bit tricky because these products are so similar, but I’ve picked out several factors that will help you differentiate your choices.

Types of Keyless Entry

Keyless entries use a variety of methods to unlock your RV door. Most of the best systems will actually include more than one of these methods so that you have options in a pinch.

The keypad entry method requires pre-programming of a unique combination code that only you (and the other people who you’re cool with getting into your RV anytime) know the combination for.

Codes can be re-programmed fairly easily and this is a great method if you’re away from your RV and need someone to stop by and check on it, but you have the keys with you. 

This is why keypad entry can be great for allowing one-time access to your RV.

Once you’ve let that person in for whatever the reason, you’ll be able to reprogram your keypad to restrict future access. 

2: Wireless

The wireless entry method uses a key fob that you need to have on your person. This method is exactly the same as the wireless unlocking method for cars. 

Many RV keyless entries come with a remote key fob that can unlock your RV door from up to 60 feet away.

3: Bluetooth

Some high-end keyless RV lock can sync with your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Instead of worrying about an extra key fob on your already-crowded keychain, you’ll simply be able to unlock your RV door from your phone. 

Standard. Traditional. Maybe a little bit boring. But absolutely reliable. All quality keyless entry systems should come with a set of mechanical keys as a backup. Key fobs break. 

You forget your keypad combination with everything else on your mind. It’s always good to have a mechanical key when all else fails.

Size and Fitting

Most keyless entries are built to fit a standard RV handle opening. But how do you know if your RV has a standard opening without removing your current door lock and measuring it? 

Honestly, that might be your best course of action to ensure buying a keyless RV door lock that’s actually going to fit. 

There are some DIY ways around customizing a keyless entry if you happen to buy one that doesn’t fit.

Most of these methods, however, require modifications that can compromise the integrity of the locking system.

Remember that one of your reasons for installing a keyless RV entry door lock is to make your RV more secure.

Spend that little bit of extra time to make sure the RV door lock you’re about to buy will fit the existing cut out in your RV door.

Doing so will also save you a bunch of time and potential headaches when your new product arrives and it’s time for installation.

The fanciest keyless entry systems can even sync to your smartphone so that you can unlock your door with that undersized computer you’re always carrying around in your pocket.

Other access methods include key fobs, combination keypads, and mechanical keys. 

While the point of a keyless RV door lock is not to have to keep track of mechanical keys, it’s always good to have them as a backup.

Just because technology can fail (sometimes), I’d be hesitant to buy a entry door lock that didn’t come with mechanical keys, just in case.

Your preference on method of access will play a role in the product you choose.

If you’re like me and sequences of numbers just seem to stick in your head (but you can’t remember family members’ birthdays), you’ll probably use the combination keypad as your primary access method.

If numbers aren’t your strong suit though, this method of access probably shouldn’t be your first choice. 

If you travel a lot and you’re worried about losing your RV amongst the rest of the nomadic RV community in the Wal-Mart parking lot, you’ll like the fact that you have a key fob that causes your keyless lock to chirp when you hit the lock or unlock buttons.

Be careful of getting too reliant on key fobs though. Batteries can die and they’re more likely to be rendered useless if you get caught in a sudden downpour and your keys get wet. 

This is why it’s always a smart move to keep at least one backup mechanical key on your keychain for emergencies.

While your keyless door lock should provide you with hassle-free entry to your RV 99.9999 percent of the time, it’s always a good rule of thumb to be prepared for the 0.0001 percent!

How much Dose it cost?

Most keyless entries won’t cost you much more than $200, but there can be value in finding a model that fits the “middle of the road” mold.

When you break it down, a keyless door lock should have solid construction, multiple ways to unlock your door, and should fit your RV’s current handle opening. 

There are certainly other bells and whistles that I recognize might be important to your lifestyle, but make sure not to compromise security for Bluetooth connectivity (just one example!).

Your budget is your budget but, from my experience, a solid keyless entry system can be had for somewhere between $100 and $200.

I wish I could just name a couple of brands that you can trust to make a great keyless door lock.

Unfortunately, the right brand for you might not be the right brand for me. However, brands build certain reputations for a reason.

Take some time to look through the reviews of each keyless RV door lock you’re interested in before you buy. 

There’s a lot that can be learned from reading about what other people have experienced with the product. You can compare your RV type and size with theirs.

You can see how easy (or difficult) their installation process was. The list goes on and on.

The first obvious reason for replacing an existing door lock pertains to owners of older RVs. 

Don’t forget that your door lock is also old with an older RV.

When the materials in an old lock begin to break down, it’s more likely to break or be compromised by a break-in attempt. 

Another obvious reason to replace your existing lock is if your RV has already been broken into. If it happens once, it can happen again.

Replacing your door lock will not only make your RV more secure, but it will also restore your peace of mind.

How do I install an RV keyless entry?

This can vary slightly from model to model, but most basic steps are the same.

Start by removing the existing door lock and reading the manufacturer’s instructions for your new keyless RV entry door locks.

Keep the door propped open so it can’t accidentally close and make sure the cut-out space where your old lock was matches the dimensions of your new lock. 

Next, start by inserting the front unit and ensuring the door’s deadbolt and levers fit properly.

Connect the back panel to the front unit before screwing the back assembly into place.

The final step is returning to the manufacturer’s instructions to program your new keyless entry system.

What if the keyless entry door locks I choose doesn’t fit?

There are two basic options if you’ve already purchased a keyless entry and find it isn’t compatible with your RV door.

The first option is to return the door lock for a refund or exchange it for a product that does fit. This is the best option and the option we recommend. 

But for the intrepid DIY individual who trusts his or her handiwork, the second option is to get to customizing.

If the new keyless entry door lock is too small, you could consider finding a thin metal shim to cover the gap.

If it’s too large, you might use a metal grinder to reduce its dimensions.

While we don’t recommend Option #2 because it can compromise the lock’s integrity, it’s certainly an option for a skilled metalworker.

Should I replace my storage bin locks too? 

Many RV storage bin locks are pretty universal, just like the lock on your RV door.

This can make older RVs more susceptible to break-ins and there are few things worse than waking up to realize that several of your underneath storage bins have been cleaned out.

You can also install keypad entry locks on your storage bins, just be extra careful to choose weather-resistant locks for this application. 

How are keyless locks powered?

Depending on the model, there can be some variety, but most rely on a standard pair of AA batteries.

You’ll know a little bit about the manufacturer’s values by whether or not they include the batteries with your purchase of the keyless lock, but I’ll let you be the judge on that.

As far as the key fobs go, most use smaller 27A 12-volt batteries but, again, there can be some variety depending on the manufacturer.

I am using this RVLock V4 Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad & Fob for my RV. The design is sleek, very masculine, if I may say so. First of all, it is very easy to install. Next, once the lock was put in place, the door doesn’t jam. Finally, it’s so small it actually fits inside my pocket. Also, the coating prevents the elements such as water, sunlight, and dust from degrading the lock itself. I really prefer this product because it still function even if it has a low battery.

I can honestly say that the RVLock V4 is one of the best keyless locks on the market today. It is very easy to install but it keeps the door firmly locked. In addition, I can choose between three unlocking options: a key, a numeric code, and a remote fob. I previously used an RV door lock with a deadbolt that didn’t hold up well to repeated use. However, this Kohree door lock is not the same as the one I previously used. The build quality of this RV lock with deadbolt is excellent.

The latch pin trailer lock comes with a pair of keys and has a snap-on plastic cover to protect the key cylinder from mud, dirt, and moisture. A 9/32-inch pin diameter is a universal fit for standard coupler latches. Its chrome plating helps prevent corrosion and rusting.

Whether you’re a full-timer or just heading out to camp for the weekend, you deserve a reliable and convenient lock for your door. And you may find yourself preferring one type of lock over the other!

There are a few different types of door lock options, including keyless, deadbolt, and combination. There are also just classic key door locks with doorknobs as well as without, which we will also go over!

While all door locks do essentially the same thing, there are still different types that you should consider before making your final decision. Some are more convenient than others, and some locks offer better security too. Even if you’re on a tight budget, there will be an RV door lock out there that’s perfect for bringing extra security to your rig without a high price tag. 

1. Keyless Door Lock

The future of RV door locks is here, and why shouldn’t it be? Keyless door locks are all the rage because of their convenience, technological advancement, and security. 

These locks come equipped with a battery-operated keypad which means you can choose your own unique code for opening your camper door. This can be convenient for large families that don’t have enough keys for everyone, as well as anyone searching for the added safety of a code rather than a lock that can be picked.

These locks always come with a backup key, used to open the lock in case the batteries die and you’re unable to replace them right away. They can also come with a fob, just like your car. This means that you can open your door from farther away, at the click of a button!

It must’ve been safer to camp in the 70s given that my 1976 travel trailer is equipped with the most standard and cheap doorknobs I’ve ever seen! It’s about time for this full-timer to upgrade, but that doesn’t mean a classic doorknob won’t work for you. It is easy to operate and very no-fuss, something that many families may be looking for!

Motorhome locks are easy to operate as well. They are flat to your trailer or RV door, which means you won’t have to worry about a doorknob getting in the way inside or outside of your rig. They have keys, just like a traditional doorknob, and a handle. 

You may consider an alternative to these as the handles are often made from plastic and are prone to breaking. However, a traditional metal doorknob may prove too bulky and easy to pick.

All in all, I think it’s hard to beat this keyless RV lock, and given its all-metal construction, it’s one of the sturdiest locks available on the market, and it comes complete with a deadbolt too for added security! However, it’s worth mentioning to operate the deadbolt, the button needs to be held down for a few seconds. I find this a bit inconvenient when I am in and out of my rig all day, as I have to lock and unlock the RV multiple times.

Overall, however, this lock really packs a punch, and y ou’ll never feel neglected with LATCH-IT’s customer service, something I find reassuring as I like to know I have access to help and support if something were to ever malfunction or go wrong.

I like the old-school aesthetic for my rig, so this is a great lock option for me, and since it’s available in a variety of colors, I can match it to my rig perfectly. With a sturdy metal construction, this lock is made for long-term outdoor use, exactly what I want for locks on my rig. CBP officers seize seven weapons, 104 rounds of ammunition, nine magazines and marijuana at Del Rio Port of Entry

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers conducting outbound operations recently seized weapons, ammunition, magazines and small amount of marijuana hidden within a vehicle hauling a trailer.

“This seizure serves as another example of the effectiveness and the utilization of officer experience and technology to prevent weapons from going south and causing greater harm,” said Port Director Liliana Flores, Del Rio Port of Entry. “These types of seizures perfectly illustrate CBP’s resolute commitment to securing our shared border with Mexico.”

The seizure occurred on the morning of Wednesday, April 24, at the Del Rio International Bridge when officers assigned to outbound operations selected a 2015 Chevy Express van traveling to Mexico for inspection. The vehicle and utility trailer it was pulling were referred for a non-intrusive inspection system examination and canine examination.  Upon further physical inspection of the vehicle and trailer, CBP officers discovered seven weapons, 104 rounds of ammunition, nine magazines and 59 grams of marijuana within the conveyance.

The weapons, ammunition, magazines, marijuana  were seized by CBP OFO officers. The case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
