side of wandering bear coffee

Have you ever found yourself rummaging through your kitchen in the morning, yearning for a quick yet high-quality cup of iced coffee to kick-start your day?

As a busy mom of two and also training for a marathon , I’ve often wished for a convenient solution that doesn’t compromise on the fresh, robust taste of a coffee-shop brew. The dilemma of time versus quality can feel like choosing between a peaceful morning run or a tantrum-free school drop-off.

Enter Wandering Bear Iced Coffee .

I have been seeing ads all over my Facebook feed for this coffee and recently decided to order some to see if it lives up to the hype.

In this blog post, I’ll share with you my experience and if the coffee is worth ordering.

About Wandering Bear Coffee

My experience and review, packaging and design, price and value, pros and cons, the verdict, frequently asked questions.

If you’re looking for a delicious and convenient coffee option, Wandering Bear Coffee might be just what you need.

This New York-based company offers a range of high-quality coffee products that are perfect for busy coffee lovers.

Company History

Wandering Bear Coffee was founded in 2014 by two friends, Matt Bachmann and Ben Gordon. The company started as a cold brew coffee stand at a farmers’ market in New York City and quickly gained a following for its delicious and smooth coffee.

In 2016, Wandering Bear Coffee launched its first product line, which included cold brew coffee in a box. The company’s products are now available in retailers across the United States (mainly on the East and West Coasts) as well as on Amazon and their own website .

As any busy parent can relate, I’m always on the hunt for shortcuts to simplify my day without compromising on quality.

Whether it’s a new workout routine on the Peloton or a family-friendly meal prepping hack, I’m all in.

So, when I kept seeing ads on Facebook for Wandering Bear Iced Coffee , specifically their tantalizing Coconut flavor, it felt like the universe was sending me a sign. I love coconut iced coffee, so I knew I had to try it!

The promise of a convenient, coffee-shop quality brew right from my fridge was too good to pass up.

Ordering (or Attempting To)

With high hopes and a serious need for caffeine, I ventured onto their website, ready to place my order. But unfortunately, the Coconut flavor was nowhere to be found on the site. The dream of tropical coffee bliss was starting to seem more like a mirage.

After reaching out to customer service, they informed me that their seasonal flavors tend to sell out quickly – a testament to their popularity, but a disappointment for latecomers like myself, especially since they were running an ad campaign.

But I wasn’t ready to abandon ship just yet.

I decided to go with their Black Iced Coffee, hoping it could at least fill the void left by the elusive Coconut flavor. And oh boy, did it deliver!

Tasting the Coffee

Upon tasting it, the richness and depth of flavor were instantly noticeable. The smoothness was reminiscent of the cold brew from my favorite coffee shop, and it was certainly stronger than the coffee I whip up with my Nespresso.

This wasn’t just some off-the-shelf iced coffee; this was a high-quality brew that could hold its own.

Aside from the remarkable taste, the convenience of having this box in my fridge cannot be overstated. With a whopping 16 cups in each box, I found myself set for a good while.

And the price tag?

At $28.99 per box, each 16 oz pour works out to be just $1.81 – way cheaper than a trip to the coffee shop where I’m paying over $4 for a cup of cold brew.

So, despite the initial setback with the Coconut flavor, Wandering Bear’s Black Iced Coffee has proven to be a worthy addition to my fridge , promising a quick, delicious start to my busy mornings.

Now, as a coffee lover, you and I both know that great taste is only part of the equation. We also care about the packaging, convenience, and, crucially, the freshness of our beloved brew.

In these aspects, Wandering Bear doesn’t just wander – it strides confidently.

The packaging design of Wandering Bear Iced Coffee screams modern, clean, and functional. The box itself has a minimalist vibe with a cheeky bear logo, clearly reflecting the brand’s laid-back yet bold personality. It’s also pretty compact, so it doesn’t take up too much precious space in the fridge.

opening wandering bear tap

It’s a fun addition to the fridge and a great conversation starter when friends drop by for a visit.

But the real show-stopper is the in-built tap. It’s a game-changer for those of us accustomed to fumbling with jars and containers in the early morning hours.

wandering bear coffee inside a fridge

Just place the box in your fridge, and the tap is ready to dispense your fresh iced coffee whenever you need it.

No fuss, no mess, just a steady stream of chilled, aromatic coffee at your fingertips.

Even better, the tap system ensures your coffee stays fresh for 30 days . That’s right, a whole month of delicious coffee-shop quality cold brew right in your own home.

It’s a testament to the brand’s commitment to delivering quality and convenience hand in hand.

However, if you’re thinking, “A whole box is too much for me,” Wandering Bear has got you covered. They also offer single-serve options that provide the same quality brew in a smaller, equally convenient package.

It’s evident that Wandering Bear caters to all kinds of coffee drinkers, ensuring we all get to enjoy their exceptional coffee, regardless of our consumption habits.

Wandering Bear Coffee

When it comes to the cost of Wandering Bear Iced Coffee, I’ll admit, the initial price tag might make you do a double take. But, when you consider the quality, convenience, and pure deliciousness of this coffee, the numbers begin to make sense.

Let’s start with the basics: you can choose to buy individual boxes or opt for a bundle, where buying more saves you more. It’s a neat option for the caffeine-obsessed among us, or if you’re thinking of splitting the cost with a friend or two.

And let’s not forget about the membership option. For a small annual fee, you’re granted early access to sales and those enticing limited edition flavors.

Imagine having first dibs on the holiday Peppermint Mocha or the tantalizing Coconut before everyone else!

As for the smaller quantities, they offer compact cartons and single serves, perfect for the occasional iced coffee drinker or if you’re looking to add some variety to your caffeine routine.

And here’s where it really pays off: their subscribe and save option. You can arrange for monthly deliveries of your favorite brew and save 10% while doing so.

The cherry on top?

You don’t have to fret about storage. Unopened coffee can be kept at room temperature until you’re ready to indulge.

While Wandering Bear Iced Coffee may seem pricier than your average off-the-shelf iced coffee, the value you’re getting in return is substantial. This is a high-end, coffee shop quality brew, conveniently boxed and ready to pour whenever you need that caffeine fix.

Factor in the taste, convenience, and the variety of options available, and you’ve got yourself a pretty sweet deal.

Currently Wandering Bear has the following flavors available:

Straight Black

Dirty Vanilla Chai

Peppermint Mocha (seasonal)

Pumpkin Spice (seasonal)

Almond Armaretto (seasonal)

Toasted Coconut (seasonal)

They’re always adding new seasonal flavors to the rotation so keep an eye on their website.

Let’s boil down my Wandering Bear Iced Coffee experience into a list of pros and cons to help you decide whether it’s right for you:

Here are a few pros of Wandering Bear coffee:

The coffee itself is top-notch. It’s smooth, strong, and delivers a flavorful punch that rivals a coffee shop cold brew.

Convenience

The fridge-ready box with a built-in tap means you have fresh iced coffee on demand, whenever you need it.

It’s fun and modern, adding a little whimsy to your refrigerator landscape. Plus it doesn’t take up too much space!

The tap system ensures your coffee stays fresh for up to 30 days once opened.

Serving Size Options

From a hefty 96 oz box to 32 oz cartons and 12 oz single serves, they cater to a variety of needs.

Despite the higher initial cost, the per-serving price rivals that of many premium coffees.

Membership Benefits

Early access to sales, secret menu items, and limited edition flavors.

The coffee doesn’t need to be refrigerated until it’s ready to use, saving you valuable fridge space.

While there are a lot of pros, let’s take a look at a few of the cons of Wandering Bear Coffee.

Seasonal Flavors Availability

Their limited edition flavors sell out quickly. This might be disappointing if you’re eager to try a specific flavor, though membership can alleviate this problem.

For some, the initial price might seem high, although the overall value considering quality, convenience, and per-serving cost is excellent.

Website Navigation

While this didn’t affect my overall experience, the initial difficulty finding the desired flavor on their site is worth mentioning, especially since they’re advertising it.

Overall, I found the pros significantly outweigh the cons.

Wandering Bear Iced Coffee is a quality product that offers an excellent balance of convenience, taste, and value, especially for those of us who crave a good cup of iced coffee to kick-start our busy days.

wandering bear coffee nutrition

To wrap it all up, my experience with Wandering Bear Iced Coffee has been overwhelmingly positive.

Despite some initial hiccups in the ordering process and a higher-than-average price tag, the taste, quality, and convenience offered by Wandering Bear make it a clear winner in my book.

The fun, eco-friendly packaging and the ease of having a fresh, delicious iced coffee on tap right from my fridge far outweigh the cons.

And let’s not forget about the excellent value you get in the long run, not just in terms of cost per serving but also the time and energy saved from brewing or making that daily coffee shop run.

Plus, with the additional benefits of the membership, Wandering Bear makes it easy for all coffee enthusiasts to enjoy premium, coffee-shop quality cold brew from the comfort of their own homes.

So if you’re in the market for a convenient, high-quality iced coffee solution, I recommend giving Wandering Bear a try.

After all, who wouldn’t want to start their day off on the right paw… I mean, foot?

Wandering Bear coffee is a low-calorie beverage that contains only 10 calories per serving. It is also gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan-friendly. The calories come from 2g Carbs and 1g Protein.

Wandering Bear Coffee Review: This Cold Brew Coffee On Tap Has Got Me Wired

Umama kibria.

In partnership with Wandering Bear.

My cold brew journey began during the pandemic, when every morning felt like a Saturday morning thanks to the luxury of time and many, many homemade batches. I love the full coffee experience: freshly roasted espresso, chilled overnight, iced – add a splash of creamy oat milk, 5 pumps of sweetener, and shake it right up.

However, I regularly spend $12+ on my coffee shop order and delivery now that my life has returned to its normal routine. I was looking for a way to cut down on this outrageous cost when my friend Kristen posted an Instagram story of the cold brew coffee she keeps on tap in her fridge. I responded right away: Me: WHAT IS THIS WIZARDRY? Kristen : Wandering Bear coffee on tap! I’M WIRED! Me: *Adds to Cart*

Battle of the Brew

Wandering Bear is an organic strong and smooth cold brew coffee on tap. Think boxed wine, but cold brew coffee. Like most great startups, Wandering Bear was born on a college campus. Co-founder Matthew Bachmann doesn’t describe himself as a morning person. That’s why a homemade caffeinated cold brew was the fuel for his existence. He walked into his Columbia grad school class to find fellow classmate Ben Gordon (his co-founder) with a homemade cold brew, too. It was love at first sip. Their relationship quickly turned into a battle of the best brew – who could make the strongest and smoothest batch.

Most of the cold brews on the market lacked freshness, were full of sugar and had shelf lives that killed the caffeinated energy they were seeking. In 2014, they launched their first coffee kitchen in Queens, New York. Wandering Bear was the first to revolutionize the bag-in-a-box cold brew coffee on tap. Now, Matt and Ben are bringing coffee shop quality cold brew at the push of a button to a fridge near you.

What’s This Cold Brew Craze About? ‍

As the first coffee on tap, Wandering Bear checks the box but for convenience – but how strong is it? Very. The coffee is made with 100% organic arabica coffee grown in Peru, Colombia, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Get a punch of extra caffeine with 2 espresso shots in every 6 oz serving (that’s 150mg of caffeine). The brand locks in all that flavor with its thoughtful boxed packaging that keeps it fresher longer. It stays fresh for up to 30 days without diminishing the flavor or strength.

Wandering Bear is known for being big on taste, but small on environmental impact. That’s why each case is 100% recyclable (even the tap cap is made of sugarcane!). But that’s the only sugar you’ll find near this cold brew. Wandering Bear has zero sugar or artificial sweeteners.

The brand has a variety of offerings: cold brew boxes (from $26.09), pods (from $11.67), beans (from $15.99), cartons (from $8.99), and single serves (from $47.99) in flavors like straight black, vanilla, caramel, mocha, hazelnut, and decaf black.

An Honest Review ‍

I got the Straight Black and Vanilla cold brew coffee boxes. The Straight Black is hands down my favorite. While I typically drink my coffee milky and sweet, this classic black goes down smooth. It starts off strong and finishes with a chocolatey undertone (and no bitter acidic aftertaste).

Vanilla is typically my least favorite flavor because most vanilla cold brews overpower the coffee with artificial sweetness. I was pleasantly surprised at how light this vanilla flavor is. Just enough to get a whiff of the smell plus a mild and natural vanilla sweetness.

Taste: 9/10

where is wandering bear coffee located

The caffeine hit me almost instantly. But not the kind that makes you run to the bathroom (IYKYK). You feel it in your heart and mind. It’s strong, yet smooth. The box reads that each 6 oz cup serves up 2 espresso shots. I’d say you maybe feel 1-1.5 shots if you’re a 2 cups a day caffeine-aholic like me. It’s a great sip on it all day, steady-state energy flow, kind of cold brew. I’m also amazed at how long it stays fresh. I went on vacation for a week and came back to coffee just as strong as Day 1.

Caffeine: 8.99/10 The best part of Wandering Bear is its convenience: I roll out of bed and go straight to the fridge for a quick morning pour. This cold brew delivers that coffee shop quality with the push of a button. I love how sleek the box fits into my fridge, too.

Convenience: 10/10 ‍

‍ Goodbye Coffee Shop Coffee!

Cold brew coffee is a great remedy for those long, dog days of summer. And with a cute black bear on the packaging, how can you go wrong with Wandering Bear Coffee? But as we’ve all been told: Don’t judge a book by its cover.

So is this Wandering Bear cold brew coffee worth it ? Read our review to find out.

  • Compact boxes with pour spout made from fully recyclable materials
  • Easy-to-use tap for dispensing coffee
  • Shelf-stable, unsweetened, and dairy-free cold brew coffee
The aroma…is very bright with a touch of smoke but…Wandering Bear cold brew is earthy and smooth. There’s very little bitterness… – Sarah Fischer, Culinary Assistant at Taste of Home

Wandering Bear Coffee Review

In 2014, two caffeine-fuelled graduate students, Matt and Ben, started a competition to see who could make the tastiest cold brew ( 1 ). Since then, their collective obsession with making strong, smooth cold brew coffee led to the founding of Wandering Bear Coffee.

So is this cold brew on tap worth the hype? Keep reading to find out.

  • Ease of Use
  • Value for Money

where is wandering bear coffee located

Packaging – 4/5

Except for the 11-ounce single-serve bottles and 32-ounce cartons, the coffee on tap comes in a fully recyclable box, making it one of our most recommended sustainable coffee brands . Even the tap itself is made from sugarcane.

When you’re done with the cold brew, recycling the components is as simple as separating the plastic liner and the cardboard box.

In addition to the traditional nutrition facts, a QR code, and a short blurb about Matt and Ben—Wandering Bear’s co-founders—the packaging prominently features a silhouette of a black bear spread across the top and side of the box.

The color scheme is unassuming—featuring a black bear with a blue shadow and black-and-blue font. But the straightforward, informative copy and the cute bear are more than enough to entice any cold brew connoisseur.

Wandering Bear Coffee Cold Brew review

Ease of Use – 4/5

Wandering Bear couldn’t have made untapping their coffee any easier. But you must muster a little courage of your own.

You’ll have to approach the black bear head-on to find the tap and break the seal. Turn the box over so that the bear is facing you. Find the perforated cutout, and pull the sugarcane tap out from inside the box.

To ensure the tap doesn’t slide around, Wandering Bear has placed a few notches on the body of the tap. Moreover, the flap of the box adjacent to the circular cutout fits neatly into those notches, keeping the tap at the proper angle for decanting. Once you break the seal, just press the button and decant it into your glass.

We did notice that the cold brew comes out quite slowly, so it does take a little patience to fill a standard 16-ounce glass. Moreover, once you’re more than three-quarters of the way through the cold brew, you’ll have to balance the tap—via one of those notches—on the edge of the glass, tilt the box with one hand, and press the button with the other.

Unfortunately, this makes for a rather precarious pour. We created a non-slip surface using a dampened paper towel to keep our glass from sliding around our countertop. Once the glass was stable, it took a bit of maneuvering to find just the right angle for the coffee to decant.

Finally, when we were pouring those last drops from the bottom of the bag, we had to take the plastic liner out and coax the coffee into our glass.

Value for Money – 5/5

Wandering Bear’s cold brew coffee drinks come in various flavors and sizes. For this review, we chose the 96-ounce box.

The copy on the side panel says there are 16 six-ounce servings per box. Each six-ounce glass is as strong as two shots of espresso, and at $2.25 per glass, this is an excellent deal. If you drink just one glass of cold brew a day, the 96-ounce box will last you two weeks.

Flavor – 5/5

While having a cold brew on tap is great, it’s what’s inside that counts. And Wandering Bear does not disappoint. Keep reading for some general notes on Wandering Bear’s cold brew, followed by a few notes on the specific types we chose.

First, this cold brew is strong and smooth ; across all three varieties, it is bold without any bitterness. So whether you’re a cold brew connoisseur or just starting your journey, Wandering Bear has struck the perfect balance between a bold, aromatic cup and a smooth one.

Secondly, Wandering Bear uses only 100% organic arabica beans . In line with their commitment to sustainability, they only use beans from sustainable coffee farms and cooperatives throughout Nicaragua, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.

What’s more, despite having noticeable hints of flavor, all of Wandering Bear’s coffees are sugar-free. And because all their cold brew coffee is dairy-free, you can add any dairy substitute you prefer.

Finally, while each of the three flavors we tried was excellent, if you’re looking for the pure, Wandering Bear experience, we’d suggest going with the Straight Black cold brew.

The first variant we untapped was vanilla. To our surprise, the ingredients list was very straightforward: filtered water, organic coffee beans from Peru, and natural organic flavor. Unfortunately, because there was a small tear in the corner of the plastic liner, we had to transfer it to another container.

wandering bear vanilla cold brew box

But despite that minor hiccup, this flavor was genuinely delightful. Wandering Bear describes this variety as “Coffee forward with subtle hints of vanilla,” which was very accurate in our experience.

The aroma was very reminiscent of a fresh-baked vanilla cupcake. As you sip, hints of cream and marshmallows are very apparent.

As with the previous flavor, this flavor was “coffee forward with subtle hints of mocha.” The ingredients list was the same as the vanilla variety.

This time, everything went as expected. After pulling the spout out of the circular cutout and moving the other flap out of the way, we could decant as per Wandering Bear’s instructions.

Unlike the vanilla variety above, the cold mocha brew was bolder in aroma and flavor. The aroma reminded us of baker’s chocolate and caramel, while a pecan-like nuttiness and a slight hint of brightness came through in the taste.

Overall, we enjoyed the mocha more than the vanilla flavor because the slight nuttiness and the chocolate aroma were a much more natural pairing for Wandering Bear’s base Peruvian cold brew.

Straight Black Cold Brew

Finally, we’ve saved the best for last. Wandering Bear notes that this cold brew is “Coffee forward, extra strong, and surprisingly smooth.” And this time, the ingredients list is even simpler: filtered water and 100% organic Peruvian arabica coffee.

Though we love mocha and vanilla, we were looking forward to tasting Wandering Bear’s Straight Black because it’d give us the best gauge of their coffee quality. And honestly, it was, hands-down, our favorite.

Nutrition Facts Wandering Bear's coffee

Many cold brew coffees have a muddled flavor profile with very few subtle notes. But Wandering Bear’s Straight Black cold brew coffee has an aroma that is sweet and buttery, like a pie crust, with a subtle note of plum. As with the other cold brews, the Straight Black was smooth with no lingering smoky or bitter notes.

There was a subtle caramelized sweetness—somewhere between honey, caramel, and molasses.

While there weren’t too many citrus or stone fruit notes, there was still a subtle hint of brightness to keep the cup from becoming too heavy. To our palates, it lay somewhere between green apple and fresh strawberry, which made this a very well-balanced, smooth cup.

While you could add in milk, flavored syrups, or use it to make a nice pumpkin spice latte, this cold brew is smooth enough to drink on its own.

Do not Buy Wandering Bear’s Cold Brew Coffee If…

  • You’re on a tight budget: While Wandering Bear’s coffees are a great value for the money, they’re still more expensive than making your own cold brew . In making cold brew from scratch, you’re in full control of the types of coffee beans you use and can stick to the single-origins or high-quality blends you prefer. If you need some great options for cold brew coffee beans, why not check out our review of Lifeboost Coffee ? Lifeboost is certified organic, shade-grown in the mountains of Nicaragua, and hand-picked at the peak of ripeness to ensure the best and highest-antioxidant coffee beans. What’s more, Lifeboost claims to be low-acid, so it’s a great choice for anyone whose stomach doesn’t always play well with coffee ( 2 ).
  • You have limited storage space in the fridge: While the cold brew boxes aren’t that large and measure in at 6.75″ by 4″ by 7.875 inches, they still take up some room. Wandering Bear’s smaller 32-ounce or 11-ounce cold brew coffees might be a better fit for tight spaces and small fridges if you have a larger family or do a lot of prep-cooking. What’s more, these smaller containers allow you to try all of Wandering Bear’s flavored cold brews without committing to a boxed cold brew on tap. You can also try Javy coffee concentrates. They come in small bottles and a multitude of flavors. Learn more about this trending product in Home Grounds’ Javy coffee review .
  • If you like a brighter, more nuanced cup: Because cold brew is steeped cold, many of the more nuanced flavors you’d traditionally expect in the final cup—such as floral and spice notes, which often require heat—don’t come out in the final cup.
  • If you are sensitive to caffeine: Wandering bear often describes its cold brew as “strong and smooth.” With the amount of caffeine in Wandering Bear coffee , you can expect that it does pack quite a punch. Each six-ounce glass is equivalent to two shots of espresso, and if you consume coffee like water, then these caffeinated cold brews might not be the best choice. And because Wandering Bear’s coffees are so smooth, that’s very easy. Trust us; we’ve been there and have the T-shirt. Instead, we recommend Wandering Bear’s, Decaf Black. Whether you enjoy it straight or with a splash of cream, their decaf cold brew lets you enjoy as much cold brew as you like without the jitters ( 3 ).

The Verdict

If you’re looking for a smooth, strong, organic, sugar-free, and dairy-free cold brew, then any of Wandering Bear’s great selections are well worth the money.

This Wandering Bear cold brew coffee also comes with recyclable packaging, a convenient tap, and a form factor that fits well in almost any fridge. You can use this cold brew as a base for any iced coffee drinks on Home Grounds or mix it in a cold brew milkshake.

Our team? We're a bunch of self-confessed coffee nerds, each with our own journey through the specialty coffee industry. From pulling espresso shots in hipster filled cafés, to roasting beans to perfection or tinkering with espresso machines - we've been there, done that.

And we don't just talk the talk. We put our money where our mouth is, sourcing and testing all the gear you see reviewed on our site. Each recommendation we make comes from extensive personal use.

As the industry is so fast-moving, we aim to keep our content fresh, updating our articles at least twice a year. So, when you see a machine or a coffee recommendation in our top picks, you know it's not just hot air.

We hope you'll join us on our mission to Brew Better Coffee.

Where do you source your coffee?

We support sustainable agriculture and the farmers that practice it.  Broadly speaking...we source our coffee in the Western Hemisphere. More specifically, from a handful of farms and co-operatives scattered throughout the wonderful-coffee-producing countries of Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru.

11 Best Coffee Shops in Moscow

Where is the most invigorating coffee in Moscow, the most airy pastry? What place is a mecca for coffee tourists? What coffee do locals drink? We selected 11 best coffee shops in Moscow  that we take out tourists to on our tours in Moscow. By the way, Russia became a full member of the International Coffee Organization in March 2015. Let’s go celebrate it in one of the coffee shops below!

 Best coffee shops in Moscow

Strictly speaking, it is not a coffee shop – it’s a bakery shop where you can drink coffee. But! Coffee and pastry here are of such quality that they will beat any ten-course dinner.

10. Literary Cafe at the Moscow House of Books

Curl up with a book in a chair in the literary café at the Moscow House of Books on Novy Arbat street. Freshly brewed coffee, hundreds of books on the shelves to read,  relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes you can witness readings and presentations of famous writers and poets.

To tell you the truth, the best Literary Cafe in Russia is in St Pete. Indulge in Russian cuisine on one of our private tours St Petersburg .

9. Ochen Domashnee Cafe (Very Home-Made Cafe)

Warm colors, soft light, good atmosphere – everything to plunge into home comfort. Don’t forget to get a hand-made souvenir for home.

8. Boucle Cafe

One of the oldest Moscow cafe located in the heart of the capital, on the Arbat street. Sip your coffee and watch literary events, film screenings and musical performances, sitting in one of those soft and colorful chairs.

7. Bulgakov House Cafe

Lokated in Bulgakov House which is famous for its amazing atmosphere: you can pat Behemoth cat, talk on the phone with Woland, indulge in delicious espresso and traditional desserts. Everything is literally saturated here with the spirit of the 1930s: tattered books on the shelves, retro lamps on the tables, vintage interior.

6. West 4 Brew Bar

West 4 makes brewing coffee in siphon a meditative and spectacular process: brown drops falling through the filter paper super slowly. So if are excited to see how your Nicaragua with notes of milk chocolate and hazelnut is progressing, you are welcome to watch the whole process.

5. Double B Coffee&Tea

For coffee sampling here we  recommend Ethiopia – neutral, but lurking mature tones of summer fruits. The drink is served in a glass flask, all power of the drink goes to the flavor – unusual amber hue, soft, fragrant. Warning: do not drink at once, and let it cool down not to miss anything.

Their own coffee shops remind laboratories, which constantly re-invent coffee drinks. There is no kitchen, but there is a large variety of coffee drinks. Apart from the classic espresso-based (cappuccino, latte, ristretto) there is also a large variety of alternative slow ways of brewing: chemex, hario and aeropress.

Double B’s signature drinks are latte with a variety of syrups, espresso with hazelnut mousse “Coffee wind” and raf-coffee, which is prepared on the basis of espresso with the addition of 11% -x cream and vanilla sugar. Worth a try is a lavender raf.

Ingenious method of preparing Australian lungo was peeped from the Australian colleague Matt Perger on World Barista Championship. Double B is the only coffee shop in Moscow that does Australian lungo really well.

Coffee gurus from Double B give some tips for beginning coffee lovers: chemex is served in a recognizable vessel. Coffee from aeropress is usually rich and muddy: for this method very thin paper filters are used. A hario is clean and shiny. Hot coffee is always slightly bitter, it needs to cool down. A good drink with the loss of temperature does not lose flavor. Do not add sugar, give your coffee a chance to become the most memorable experience in your life.

This spring 2015 Double B shares with us their new ideas: latte creme brulee (became a hit overnight), latte basil (with pine nuts), as well as cucumber tea with chamomile, which is so good for you.

Les is a unique place living under its own rules. Freshest salads, delicious sandwiches, tortillas and burritos and in-house desserts, combined with coffee master classes, sculpting, drawing, acting & DJ sets on the weekend make this place extremely popular among locals.

The interior of Les is unpretentious: whitewashed brick walls, wooden planks and menu written in white chalk on a blackboard. This is the only place in Moscow where they roast green coffee beans on the spot. Coffee is prepared only from beans of one variety, this way you can really get a taste of each type of coffee.

3. Upside Down Cake Co

This is not only airy cupcakes and cakes, but also good-quality coffee. Espresso, cappuccino, latte – all coffee beverages are prepared from freshly roasted coffee beans.

The menu consists of 11 kinds of cupcakes and 16 kinds of cakes. Here you can also have breakfast porridge and soup for lunch. Dishes and pastries prepared by adapted American recipes Chef Isaac Correa. Almost half of the menu is updated every day, so it’s ideal for regular visits.

Highly recommended is aeropress Ethiopia Bokassa. Quite strong, completely black, no weaker than espresso, but with muted bitterness and bright grapefruit tartness. This coffee is ideal for wakening up.

2. Coffeemania

Apart from coffee and desserts, here you can get top notch breakfast, lunch and dinner. Coffee from Coffeemania is repeatedly called the most delicious and expensive in the city. This is the only Moscow coffee place with presentable interiors and high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers, classic leather sofas and an open kitchen. At the same time,  there is no standard design for each new coffee house. Each Coffeemania is unique.

Coffeemania has a reputation of a trend setter, they are long known for their Chemex. Worth a try is Chemex brewed mono-sorts of highland Colombia – coffee gets a lovely rounded taste and loses all coffee sharpness: no bitterness and smoke, only chocolate with walnut.

The Funky Bear provided a fantastic dinner. The menu primarily explores familiar territory. The food was outstanding. I love to cook and have often claimed I make the best burgers on earth. RONG! Funky Bear serves the best burger. In the future, I can only claim the second-best burger. Funky Bear's Shroom (and Swiss) burger was a fantastic surprise. My wife had the Prime rib special and was utterly delighted by it. The team service here was highly effective and more than pleasant. Inside the restaurant, the "Funky Bear" theme was friendly , funny and tasteful. I look forward to eating there again. You expect very little from rural restaurants in Western Colorado. The Funky Bear would do well in Denver and maybe even New York City.

My mom and i shared a 12 oz Ribeye meal and a side of green chilie. It was very good! It was a very cute little restaurant and it had a patio that i'm pretty sure has more tables in the summer. And cute Bears everywhere. Our server was nice and super cute with my mom. I would most certainly go again.

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed!

With a waitress sporting a cat tail and cat ears, and nobody else in the restaurant, we took a booth with some trepidation. Ordered coffee and told we had to wait for it to brew...ok. Our group ordered different breakfast items and were amazed at what came out. My smothered green chili eggs were a sophisticated blend of heat and sweet, with scratch made evident in every bite. Rave between bites for the skillet and biscuits as well. This place is hard to find and a bit far off the highway but worth it - best breakfast I've ever had I think.

The Friday prime rib may be the best you ever had. Cooked as ordered and the sides were a great accompaniment. We finished with pumpkin cheesecake and it was the best we ever had.

The food is basic but good. They go out of their way to create vegan dishes from their menu for my husband. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. They have a nice outside patio.

Ordered online for pickup. Sloppy Bear Burger served open-faced, smothered w/Green Chili, Pepper Jack Cheese & pickled Jalapenos. $18 + tax & tip = $25. After an hour of waiting for an email, I called to see if my order was ready. They said not yet, but come in 15-20 minutes. I got there, picked up my order, took it out to car and checked it. I had received a regular burger with fries. Went back inside and the 'cook'? said the chili was under the lettuce. I said that little bit of green chili did not constitute 'Smothered'! His response was "well, we're nearly out of the chili and had to scrape the pot to get that little bit." My response is "you shouldn't have sold me a smothered burger if you couldn't produce." His response was "I'll make a note of your name and give you a 15% discount next time you order". And the extra $2 for the smothered burger....a lesson for me to take my business elsewhere in the future. He was not at all apologetic about any of it. Note: the fries were very good, although cold by the time I got to eat them.

Came here for dinner with the family on Thursday. Not to crowded but not empty either, really digging the whole psychedelic bear atmosphere. We all started off with a "funky mule" from the bar which we all thought was top notch. I ordered the grilled cheese bites appetizer. Highly recommended, basically mozzarella stick bites but the tomato bisque you dip them in was to die for 5/5 on those. I had the Cesar salad with chicken which was delicious. Everyone one else had burgers and the fried chicken sandwich which was also very good. I've heard good things about the breakfast but haven't tried it. Highly recommend checking this place out if your in the area. Shout out to Leo for being a great server, super attentive and really nice!
