6. Hinagdanan Cave

Located right at the heart of Panglao Island is yet another awe-inspiring natural wonder that captures the heart of many adventurers. The Hinagdanan Cave is both a natural and historical landmark featuring several interesting natural features like beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites and also a hidden lagoon with turquoise blue waters!

Legends say that the cave got its name when two farmers accidentally discovered two mysterious holes. Sparked by their curiosity, they tried to drop a stone into the hole and heard a splash. This is when the farmers decided to build a ladder or “hagdan” to discover the cave’s enchanting beauty.

11. Baclayon Church

Of course, it has already been a tradition for many Filipinos to always drop by a church to offer some prayers and respect whenever they visit a new place. And in this case, visiting Baclayon Church or more popularly known as La Purisima Concepcion de la Virgen Maria Parish Church, the oldest Christian settlement in Bohol, would be a perfect choice. This church was built in 1727 where Spanish priests forced more than 200 laborers to finish the construction.

Then and until now, tourists and even locals always make sure that they visit the church for prayers of good luck and safe travels. So be sure not to miss it, alright?

12. Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary

And there it is! Another iconic attraction in Bohol aside from the famous Chocolate Hills and Panglao Island is the sight of the “World’s Smallest Primate”, the Tarsiers of Bohol. The cute little mammals are actually smaller than an average man’s palm and I’m sure that just watching them will make your hearts melt, especially if you’re an animal lover! The perfect place to watch tarsiers is at the Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary and adding this attraction to your itinerary will undoubtedly bring you closer to nature.

Oh, and remember. The sanctuary serves as a safe haven for the Tarsiers, they are highly sensitive to several environmental factors so make sure that you stay disciplined and responsible during your visit. The Tarsiers are already an endangered species and we all have to contribute to saving them from disappearing.

13. Dimiao Twin Waterfalls

It’s really an incredible fact how Bohol seems to never run out of natural wonders, right? Well, buckle up because here’s another one on the way! The Dimiao Twin Waterfalls or more popularly known as the Pahangog Falls is undoubtedly one of the best waterfalls in Bohol.

The Mirror of the World, located in Sikatuna , is literally an amazing trip that will take you around the world. The landscaped garden became popular for featuring most of the planet’s famous miniature landmarks like the Hollywood Sign, Eiffel Tower, Christ the Redeemer, and many more!

15. Blood Compact Shrine

Finally, and probably one of the most important landmarks you should visit in Bohol is the famous Blood Compact Shrine. It commemorates the agreement that happened between Rajah Sikatuna of Bohol and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain that ultimately dictated the flow of our country’s history. This agreement of the Blood Compact or Sandugo symbolizes the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and the Filipinos.

It is also an easy trip since it's just along the main roads you'll pass as you go around the city. You can hail a tricycle from the town proper and ride a bus from the Dao terminal. Ride the bus that goes through Barangay Bo-ol. 

If you’re not fond of commuting and you want to see the Sandugo Shrine along with other major tourist spots, you can join this fun sightseeing activity in Bohol.

20 kilometers from Tagbilaran and found in the forest of Barangay Can-omay are hidden waterfalls called Mag-Aso Falls, named after ‘aso’ or smoke due to the drizzles resembling smoke that is formed from the strong drop of water.

Take a dip in its turquoise waters and admire the scenic view it offers. The place is quite popular, so expect some company while you’re here.

This waterfall is located at Balilihan, Bohol. It’s one of the highly-recommended waterfalls in the province because of its amphitheater-like cascading of waters. You can swim and laze around the waters for as long as you like!

The Center has several facilities that would take more than an afternoon to cover. Its main one is the Butterfly Garden, where over 50 species of butterflies flutter around freely. Seats and pathways are available for strolling around or idly watching them as they fly by.

Butterflies who are inbred can be visited in the Butterfly Enclosure, which has a waterfall and caterpillar feeding displays as well. Guests can also take a walk at the Nature Trail, located on a small hill where tropical plants, birds, and other small wildlife are also present.

Bohol Island is one of the most popular destinations in the Philippines offering a mecca of awesome adventures such as waterfalls, beaches, cave pools, cliff jumping, island hopping, and of course, the famous Chocolate Hills.

I recommend spending at least one week on the island to explore all of the top tourist spots in Bohol.

In this guide, I’ve included all the best things to do in Bohol plus some handy tips such as how to get to Bohol, the best time to visit, where to stay, how to get around, and the best tour packages.

QUICK ANSWERS – BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS

Let’s start this guide with all the essentials you should know before visiting, from getting to Bohol to the best time to visit and more.

HOW TO GET TO BOHOL?

There are two ways of getting to Bohol, one is by plane and the other by ferry.

There are daily flights to Bohol welcoming both domestic and international travelers. The main airport in Bohol is Panglao International Airport located on Panglao Island.

Cebu to Bohol ferry

The most common route is the ferry from Cebu to Bohol which takes approximately 2.5 hours and the cost is around 880 pesos.

There are daily ferry departures from the Cebu Pier 1 Ferry Terminal and it arrives at Tagbilaran Port in Bohol.

Once you have booked your Cebu to Bohol ferry ticket online, on the day of travel you can head directly to Cebu Pier 1 Ferry Terminal at least 30-minutes before departure and present the online booking number to the staff at the check-in counter so they can issue you a seat number.

There is also an additional 25 pesos terminal fee that must be paid in cash on the day.

Siquijor to Bohol ferry

If you happen to be on Siquijor island and heading over to Bohol from here, there are daily ferry departures from Larena Port in Siquijor to Tagbilaran Port in Bohol.

The ferry from Siquijor to Bohol takes around 1.5 hours and the cost is around 900 pesos plus an additional 20 pesos terminal fee.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BOHOL?

The best time to visit, weather-wise, is between April and July when temperatures are hot and there is barely any rainfall.

This is also high season so expect to see many tourists during these months.

I recommend visiting on the shoulder months of the high season between November and March which sees a bit of rainfall but usually only lasts for a couple of hours and the rest of the day is sunny.

Try to avoid the monsoon season which is between August and October.

HOW TO GET AROUND BOHOL?

The best way to get around the island and visit all the Bohol tourist spots is to rent a scooter from one of the many scooter rental stores that can be found in Panglao.

Scooter rentals are around 300 – 350 Pesos per day and a full tank of gas costs approximately 200 Pesos.

Alternatively, you can get around on the back of a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) or jump on board a tricycle.

For a 20-minute drive in a tricycle or habal-habal, you can expect to pay around 100 – 150 Pesos. Put your bartering skills to the test!

WHERE TO STAY IN BOHOL?

The main tourist area on Bohol is Panglao which is located on the west side of the island and is most famous for its beach resorts, restaurants and bars, shopping streets, and other fun activities such as cliff jumping, island hopping, and cave pools.

The other main tourist area is Anda which is located on the east side of Bohol Island and is most popular for its pristine white sand beaches, underground cave pools, private beach resorts and it’s close to waterfalls, hiking trails, and cold springs.

I recommend spending 3 nights in Panglao and 3 nights in Anda to explore all four corners of the island.

I spent one week in Bohol to visit as many Bohol tourist attractions as I could and have put together the ultimate list of the 35 Best Tourist Spots In Bohol 2023 including where to find them and what to expect!

As mentioned earlier, I recommend spending 3 days in Panglao and 3 days in Anda.

I have dissected this guide into two parts, places to visit in Bohol 2023 while staying in Panglao and places to visit in Bohol while staying in Anda.

This will make it much easier for you to craft together your Bohol itinerary.

BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS – FROM PANGLAO

Alona beach.

One of the first things you’re going to want to do when arriving in Bohol is to hit the beach to cool off.

The most famous beach in Panglao is Alona Beach which is arguably one of the best beaches in Bohol.

Alona Beach is located on the southern tip of Panglao, approximately a 45-minute drive from Tagbilaran Port and only 5 minutes drive from Panglao International Airport.

Alona Beach features a long strip of white sandy shores fringed with coconut palms and it’s without a doubt the most happening Bohol tourist spot.

Alona Beach is lined with many seaside restaurants, clubs, and bars that are open 7 days a week till late.

The best spot for swimming at Alona Beach is at the eastern end of the cove away from all the boats and here you can find your own little nook to enjoy a refreshing dip in the ocean.

CHOCOLATE HILLS

Chocolate Hills is a popular Bohol tourist spot that is not to be missed during your stay.

In saying that, the majority of travelers who visit Bohol just come to see the famous Chocolate Hills, so I am sure it’s already on your itinerary!

Chocolate Hills is located in the Carmen region. From Panglao, it’s a 70km drive that takes around 1.5 hours to reach Chocolate Hills, and the entrance fee is 150 pesos.

You can visit Chocolate Hills DIY or alternatively, you can book a Bohol Chocolate Hills Tour which is a full-day tour from Panglao.

This tour includes Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Loboc River Cruise, Tarsier Sanctuary, and Baclayon Church.

I visited Chocolate Hills at sunrise and had the entire viewpoint to myself, so if you want to beat the crowds definitely try to get here as early as possible.

At the top of the stairs is a panoramic observation deck boasting extensive views of the 1,268 cone-shaped Chocolate Hills and the surrounding Carmen region. The mysterious landscape is very impressive, to say the least.

The hills are spread over an area of 50 square kilometers and vary in size from 30 meters to 120 meters in height!

These limestone Chocolate Hills are covered with grass and appear to be bright green during the rainy season. However, they turn brown by the end of the dry season, hence their name.

MAN-MADE FOREST BOHOL

The Bilar Man-made Forest is one of the m ost beautiful Bohol tourist attractions and can’t be missed on your list of things to do on the island.

The man-made forest is located between the towns of Bilar and Loboc. From Panglao, it is approximately a 1 hour and 15-minute drive to Bilar Man-made Forest.

The Bilar man-made forest is composed of mahogany trees that stretch for more than 2 kilometers and w hen you enter this parallel tunnel of trees, you’ll feel like you’ve just entered another realm.

You will also notice the temperature drop drastically as you drive through the man-made forest Bohol because the canopy above almost completely cuts out the sun.

There is a windy road that goes all the way through the man-made forest and it acts as an enchanting pathway that cuts through the natural-arched tunnel of large mahogany trees.

The man-made forest attracts many visitors so be prepared to encounter crowds of people and constant traffic on the road that goes through the forest.

TARSIER CONSERVATION AREA

The Tarsier Conservation Area is a sanctuary where you can observe the Tarsiers in Bohol close-up and learn more about their nature.

The Tarsier Conservation Area can be found in Loboc. From Panglao, it’s a 50km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach the Tarsier Sanctuary and the entrance fee is 120 pesos.

You can visit the Tarsier Sanctuary DIY or alternatively, you can book a Bohol Countryside Tour which is a full-day tour from Panglao.

This tour includes a visit to the Tarsier Sanctuary, Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Loboc River Cruise, and Baclayon Church.

The 30-minute walk through the Tarsier Conservation Area will take you on a fun little jungle walk around the sanctuary.

You will find some viewing areas where you can spot the little tarsiers sitting in the trees and it’s easy enough to get some photos.

Tarsiers are a rare and endangered creature, as well as an iconic symbol of Bohol.

They are considered one of the smallest primates in the world and you practically won’t see them anywhere else in the country.

Tarsiers are nocturnal animals, so expect to see them sleeping during the day. However, you might get lucky enough and be able to experience them opening their eyes.

BOHOL ISLAND HOPPING TOUR

An island-hopping tour to Balicasag Island and Virgin Island Bohol is an absolute MUST and I can’t recommend this tour enough!

The island hopping tour includes dolphin watching from the boat, snorkeling with sea turtles on Balicasag Island, and a visit to the unique sand bar on Virgin Island Bohol.

I booked my  Bohol Island Hopping Tour  online in advance and this particular trip was very well organized.

Our trip began in the morning when we met our skipper and guide at the meeting point down on Alona Beach.

Balicasag Island boasts glistening white sands and an abundance of marine life just offshore.

You can rent snorkeling equipment from one of the many shacks dotted along Balicasag Beach when you arrive on the boat. A mask and snorkel set costs 150 pesos.

We spent at least two hours snorkeling around the Balicasag reef and swam with about 15 different turtles and countless species of fish. It was a morning that I will never forget!

Virgin Island Bohol is essentially a sandbar in the middle of the ocean which consists of floating seafood kitchens.

You can go up to the boat that had the most appealing seafood and choose whatever you feel like trying such as lobsters, sea urchins, calamari, and fish which they would boil or grill right in front of you.

Apart from that, there isn’t a whole lot to do on Virgin Island Bohol but it’s a  very unique experience I am sure you will enjoy!

LOBOC RIVER CRUISE

The Loboc River Cruise is one of the top-rated tourist spots in Bohol which includes a hearty lunch and a scenic cruise along the mesmerizing Loboc River.

Loboc River is located in the Loboc region which is a 40km drive from Panglao that takes around 1 hour.

I recommend booking a Bohol Countryside Tour which includes the Loboc River Cruise as one of the activities.

It’s a full-day tour from Panglao which also includes a visit to Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Tarsier Sanctuary, and Baclayon Church.

INGKUMHAN FALLS

Ingkumhan Falls is one of the  best waterfalls in Bohol and a must-see while you are exploring the island.

Cliff jumps and rope swings are just some of the reasons that make this Bohol tourist attraction one of the top locations to visit!

Ingkumhan Waterfall is located in Dimiao. From Panglao, it’s a 65km drive that takes around 1-hour to reach Ingkumhan Falls and the entrance fee is 30 pesos.

The main set of falls features a flow of water that stretches across a limestone rockface around 10 meters wide and approximately 8 meters tall.

The water fills a huge natural pool at the base of the falls that reminded me of blue Gatorade which I was almost tempted to drink.

There is a rope swing that can be used about halfway up the falls, so you will have to climb up the rock face to reach it.

Surprisingly, the surface of the rock isn’t that slippery and the depth of the pool is around 3 to 4 meters deep so you won’t need to worry about hitting the bottom when you swing.

There is also a 5-meter cliff jump that can be found on the left-hand side of the falls which is a lot of fun!

I visited Ingkumhan Falls on a Sunday and it was very busy with locals and other tourists. Try and time your visit for a weekday if you want to enjoy Ingkumhan Falls without the crowds.

DIMIAO TWIN FALLS

Dimiao Twin Falls, also known as Pahangog Falls, is my favorite Bohol tourist spot! Its Gatorade rock pools and jungle surroundings are irresistibly inviting.

Dimiao Twin Falls is located in Dimiao. From Panglao, it is a 60km drive that takes around 1.5 hours to reach Twin Falls and there is no entrance fee.

Once you arrive at the jump-off point, follow the rocky trail which then leads onto a steep set of concrete stairs with handrails to get down to the falls.

It is an easy to moderate hike that takes no more than 10 minutes to reach the bottom.

Dimiao Falls features a twin set of falls that are around 25 meters tall, flowing down a limestone rock face and filling a large catch basin below.

The turquoise natural-made swimming pool is deep enough in some areas to do some rock jumping but be sure to do a depth check first.

One of the best things to do at Dimiao Twin Falls is to grab a rubber ring for 20 pesos and float around the rock pools. You can even swim up underneath the falls for a free head massage.

In between the two sets of falls are a small sandy islet and a cave that you can also explore.

PANGLAO BEACH

The most famous beach on Panglao Island is without a doubt the touristy Alona Beach. However, if you are looking for an uncrowded and untouched beach I highly recommend visiting Panglao Beach.

Panglao Beach is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 20-minute drive to reach Panglao Beach.

The 200 meters long Panglao Beach is a small but dreamlike beach. Fringed with coconut palms and turquoise waters, this is hands down one of the best beaches in Bohol.

The only beachfront hotel is the famous and luxurious  Mithi Resort & Spa which also hosts a small island in front of their shores serving as a wedding ceremony spot.

The little island can be reached by strolling in waist-deep water and you’ll be able to enjoy the views of the coastline along Panglao Beach.

The best time to visit Panglao Beach is during high tide and it’s also a great location to watch the sunset in Panglao.

HINAGDANAN CAVE BOHOL

Hinagdanan Cave is a famed Bohol tourist spot 2023 for its unique beauty.

Hinagdanan Cave is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 15-minute drive to reach Hinagdanan Cave and the entrance fee is 50 pesos.

Inside the cavern, you’ll find a large freshwater pool that glows a fluorescent turquoise color and large stalagmite pinnacles hang from the ceiling.

The natural pool is around 3 to 4 meters deep and there is plenty of space for swimming and rock jumping.

Around the edges of the natural pool is quite dry and you can set down your belongings here while you go for a dip.

Though do note that the ground gets quite slippery especially if there are wet kids running around, so please watch your step.

WHITE BEACH PANGLAO

White Beach in Panglao is another beautiful secluded beach with sandy shores and well worth a visit when searching for things to do in Bohol.

White Beach Panglao is a short 10-minute drive from Alona Beach and it is far less crowded if you are wanting some peace and quiet away from all the hype in Alona.

Relax under one of the beach umbrellas, snorkel around the nearby reefs, take a dip in the ocean and simply enjoy the peaceful vibe that White Beach Panglao offers.

MOLAVE CLIFF JUMP

Throwing yourself over the edge of the cliffs at Molave Cliff Diving Resort is one of the most adrenaline-pumping spots in Bohol.

Molave Cliff Diving Resort is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 15-minute drive and the entrance fee is 300 pesos (this includes swimming with sardines, and we’ll elaborate here below).

The Molave Cliff Diving Resort features a 5-meter high diving board straight into the clear blue ocean below.

If you are not 100% confident, just ask the lifeguard on duty exactly where to land and watch some other keen jumpers go first.

To exit the water, it’s a 20 to 30-meter swim in shallow waters to a staircase that leads back to the cliff top.

It’s possible to walk across the reef to reach the stairs though it’s rugged in some areas and there is the odd sea urchin.

Best to bring a pair of slip-on waterproof shoes to avoid getting cut up feet.

Once you’ve tired yourself out from all the cliff diving, you can rent a mask and snorkel for 150 pesos and check out the underwater world in Molave Cove.

There are said to be large balls of sardines off the edge of the reef so keep a close eye out for them.

NAPALING SARDINE RUN EXPERIENCE

Another one of the best Bohol tourist spots is Molave Cove Resort, and it’s about swimming with sardines.

Imagine getting up close and personal with these tiny fish as they dance through the ocean right next to you.

This activity is not only a great way to witness the marine life that Bohol has to offer, but it’s also the perfect bonding experience for families and friends.

Needless to say, make sure to pack your GoPro when coming, as this is one of the coolest things you’ll do in Bohol!

MOMO BEACH PANGLAO

Momo Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Bohol and it’s still yet to make an appearance on the radar as another tourist spot.

But for now, I highly recommend stopping at Momo beach for a quick swim while it’s still untouched.

Momo Beach is located on the northern shores of Panglao, a short 15-minute drive from Alona Beach.

I stumbled across Momo Beach on my way to Hinagdanan Cave, so keep an eye out for the signpost on the side of the road.

Momo Beach features a strip of white sandy shores lined with coconut palm trees and a few wooden shacks dotted along the beach.

There was not one other tourist in sight when I visited this little slice of paradise and I enjoyed a refreshing dip in the ocean all to myself.

At one end of Momo beach is a dive resort but other than that there is nothing more than a few small fishing boats along the sand and beautiful turquoise waters await.

MAG ASO FALLS

Mag Aso Falls is one of the island’s natural treasures and a relatively new tourist spot in Bohol 2023.

Gatorade pools and epic cliff jumps are just some of the reasons why you should add Mag Aso Falls to your list of must-see Bohol attractions.

Mag Aso Falls is located in the town of Antequera. To reach Mag Aso Falls it’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Tagbilaran City or a 1-hour drive from Panglao.

Mag Aso Falls entrance fee is 20 pesos and an additional 15 pesos for parking.

There are 197 concrete steps with metal handrails leading down to the falls and it is an easy 5 to 10-minute hike to reach the bottom.

At the halfway mark on the way down to Mag Aso Falls, there is a viewpoint that overlooks the waterfall which makes for a great photo opportunity.

Mag Aso Falls is an 8-meter waterfall that is surrounded by a tropical backdrop of tall trees and wild plants.

Carved out under the waterfall is a natural pool that is particularly inviting to go for a swim due to its milky blue-colored water derived from the limestone rocks in the area.

You can swim over to Mag Aso falls from the outer edges and climb up into the natural jacuzzi pool to experience a head massage under the falls.

There is also a small cave that can be found under the waterfall.

CAMUGAO FALLS

Camugao Falls is one of the  best waterfalls in Bohol.  Although it’s not quite as popular as Can-umantad Falls, it is equally as impressive with its sheer size and irresistible rock pools!

Camugao Falls can be found in Balilihan. From Panglao, it is a 42km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach Camugao Falls.

The entrance fee is 50 pesos and an additional 20 pesos  must be paid for parking also.

It’s no more than a 10 to 15-minute hike to reach the bottom of the cliffs and to where the jungle trail emerges at the base of Camugao Falls.

Camugao Falls is surrounded by a  towering curved cliff face that makes you feel as though you’ve just stepped inside an enormous amphitheater.

To add to the ambiance, lush green plants and vines surround the canyon.

A number of huts and rest areas can be found around the edge of the swimming hole beneath the falls where you can perch up and marvel at the beautiful surroundings.

There are no food and drink options at Camugao Falls so best to pack your own snacks and drinking water if you plan to spend some time at this epic Bohol tourist spot.

KAWASAN FALLS BOHOL

Kawasan Falls is still yet to make a name for itself as one of the most beautiful places in Bohol.

Kawasan Falls is located in the town of Antequera in Bohol. It’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Tagbilaran City or a 1-hour drive from Panglao and there is a small entrance fee of 20 pesos.

Kawasan Falls is not an outrageous waterfall with a heavy flow of water but it’s the jungle surroundings and the nearby Abatan River that make this place so tranquil.

You can enjoy a nice walk through the forest along a jungle trail down to the Abatan River where you can find a few sheltered huts on stilts. A perfect spot to have a picnic with your friends!

Once you have checked out the river, continue on the trail for a few minutes to reach Kawasan Falls.

A trickle of water flows down a tall rock face from the rice terraces on top of the hill and into a small lagoon at the base of the falls. The catch basin is quite shallow and a great spot for a swim to cool off.

SEVILLA TWIN HANGING BRIDGE

The Sipatan Twin Hanging Bridges, also known as the Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridges, are a remarkable sight in Bohol, Philippines.

Suspended 25 meters above the Sipatan River, these bridges offer great views that you’ll love taking photos of.

Originally, the bridge was made of woven bamboo slats and ropes, serving as a key crossing point for locals. Over time, it has been renovated with steel cables for added safety and stability, while retaining its traditional bamboo design.

Located about 31 KM from Tagbilaran City, you can quickly stop here on the way to Bilar Man-Made Forest and the Bohol Tarsier Conservation Area .

So, if you’re planning a trip to Bohol, don’t miss out on a walk across the Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridges!

INAMBACAN CAVE & SPRING

Yet another off-the-beaten-path location is the Inambacan Cave and Spring. Although it’s not yet on the radar of most tourists, it’s definitely worth visiting.

Inambacn Cave and Spring is located in Maribojoc in Bohol. From Panglao, it is a 40km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach Inamabacan Cave.

There is a small ticket office at the entrance to Inambacan Cave and Spring Bohol and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

Inambacan Spring features a large lagoon and swimming area which is fed by a running freshwater stream.

There are many nooks and crannies to take a dip in the springs which are the perfect opportunity to jump on in and cool off.

The Inambacan Cave itself is a natural cave carved out of the hillside and a man-made pool has been built around it.

You can walk through the knee-deep water into the cave where you can find stalagmite pinnacles hanging from the ceiling.

BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS – FROM ANDA

Cadapdapan rice terraces.

If you thought Bohol was just beaches and waterfalls, think again.

The Cadapdapan Rice Terraces are hands down one of the most beautiful places to see in Bohol and an adventure not to be missed.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces remind me of the rice fields in Bali with their tiered architecture and vivid green hues.

And on the plus side, there were absolutely no other tourists in sight when I visited these rice fields, unlike the herds of tourists that you’ll encounter in Bali.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces can be found in the Candijay region. From Anda, i t is a 30km drive that takes approximately 50 minutes to reach Cadapdapan Rice Terraces.

The entrance fee at Cadapdapan Rice Terraces is 50 pesos.

I visited Cadapdapan Rice Terraces early one morning to catch the sunrise at 5:30 am and made it just in time to wander out into these gorgeous rice fields and witness a colorful sunrise as it lit up this remarkable vista.

There is a narrow dirt trail leading right out into the center of the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and I remember it being so silent and peaceful.

I spent some time just standing amongst the tall rice fields enjoying the sunrise and shooting some photos of a cluster of coconut palms out on the terraces.

I continued along the trail to a nearby hill that is almost perfectly round in shape and resembles something similar to the Chocolate Hills.

This incredible viewpoint not only overlooks the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces but it also boasts extensive views down the valley and to the ocean.

CAN UMANTAD FALLS

Can-umantad Falls in Candijay is the biggest and arguably the  best waterfall in Bohol . Located high in the hills away from the main tourist towns, Can-umantad Falls is an adventure not to be missed!

Can-Umantad Falls is located in the Candijay region. From Anda, it takes approximately 50 minutes and the entrance fee  is 20 pesos.

From the jump-off point, it’s a short 5-minute walk along a clearly marked trail to reach Can-umantad Falls.

The way is made up of dirt trails, stone steps, and wooden bridges that cross the running freshwater stream.

There are a number of rockpools leading up to the main set of falls which are very inviting with their milky blue waters.

This is your first opportunity to take a refreshing dip following the long journey to reach this Bohol tourist spot.

The height of Can-umantad Falls is said to be 60ft making it the tallest waterfall in Bohol.

Its water source originates from the blue and cool water from Pundol Spring in Candapdapan, making its way downstream to the 60ft drop at Can Umantad Falls and into a large basin below.

Swimming under the flow of water to receive a natural head and neck massage is an awesome experience to have at Can-umantad Falls Candijay.

The water is quite shallow on the edges of the catch basin but it becomes deeper the closer you get to the falls.

CANAWA COLD SPRING

The Canawa Cold Spring in Candijay, in my opinion, is the  best cold spring on Bohol island.

It’s a popular spot for the Filipino locals to hang out though you won’t see many tourists here.

Canawa Spring is located in the Candijay region in Bohol. I t takes approximately 50 minutes to drive from Anda to Canawa Cold Spring and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

There are two main springs at Canawa, one is a man-made pool with concrete walls and a somewhat dam-like structure, and the other is a natural pool that is almost completely surrounded by lush trees.

The natural pool at the back is far more beautiful than the man-made pool that you see when you first arrive.

So don’t be deterred by this concrete section of Canawa Cold Spring, just be sure to keep wandering along to discover the enchanting blue pool at the back.

A long rope stretches from one side of the cold spring to the other, so you can use this as an aid if swimming isn’t your strong point.

There is also a high tree branch above this natural pool that can be climbed and used as a jump-off point into the spring.

BINABAJE HILLS HIKE

Binabaje Hills, in my opinion, is the best hike in Bohol that takes around 1 hour to reach the summit, boasting panoramic views of the island and its coastlines.

Binabaje Hills is located in Alicia, a town in the northeastern region of Bohol island. It’s approximately a 45-minute drive from Anda to Alicia and the cost is 300 pesos for the guide and 50 pesos entrance fee.

Organizing a hike to Binabaje Hills was a bit more of a process compared to other hikes that I have been on, so to make it easier for you I have explained everything you need to know in the full blog post – Click Here to view.

The morning began with a 3 am alarm clock to make the 45-minute drive from my accommodation in Anda to reach Alicia in time to meet the guide Raul who then took us to the trailhead of the hike.

The first 15 minutes of the trail is quite mellow to start with, perfect to warm up the legs at 4 in the morning, but it quickly becomes very steep.

We hopped over small creek crossings, took a couple of water breaks in small huts along the way, and then scrambled up the narrow ridge trail to finally reach the summit of Binabaje Hills.

There is a small hut at the top that marks the highest point of the Binabaje Hills hike and I arrived drowning in sweat.

The sun was still yet to rise so I took a 5-minute break here before continuing to explore the mountaintop area.

The top hut doesn’t offer the best view of the region as it is surrounded by trees and shrubs so our guide Raul showed us another spot to watch the sunrise from.

It was a very hazy morning, unfortunately, so the sunrise wasn’t that spectacular, though the extensive views of the coastline and surrounding mountains were spectacular nonetheless.

We spent around 1 hour at the top of Binabaje Hills taking photos and enjoying the view before heading back down to the base of the mountain.

Safe to say the Binabaje Hills Hike is one of the best Bohol tourist spots worth checking out.

KINAHUGAN FALLS  

Kinahugan Falls is one of the most  off-the-beaten-path waterfalls in Bohol. A short five-minute hike along a jungle trail to Kinahugan Falls is a worthy adventure.

Kinahugan Falls is located in Jagna. F rom Anda, it’s s a 37km drive that takes approximately 50 minutes and the entrance is 10 pesos per person.

The trek to Kinahugan Falls from the parking lot takes no more than five minutes down a narrow dirt trail that can be quite slippery so take your time through this section.

When you reach the bottom of the trail it opens up to a flat plateau  surrounded by coconut palms  and a river runs down one side of the valley.

We caught our first glimpse of Kinahugan Waterfall from here and we followed the trail up some large tree roots that act as stairs. This lead us to a viewing platform at the top which was covered in vibrant foliage from the canopy above.

There are actually  two sets of falls at Kinahugan Waterfall boasting mass volumes of water gushing down a rock face into the river below.

Kinahugan Falls isn’t the most ideal spot for a swim as there is quite a lot of water moving around and it did look quite dangerous to be fair.

This location is purely for marveling at and enjoying the scenic jungle  that surrounds Kinahugan Falls.

DANAO ADVENTURE PARK

Danao Adventure Park is another incredible Bohol new tourist spot, a haven for thrill-seekers and nature lovers.

Nestled about 1 hour from the Chocolate Hills, the park boasts one of the longest and tallest zip line in the country, named “sui-slide” and is 200-meter deep and 500-meter long.

When coming, you can expect a day filled with adrenaline-pumping activities. From zip-lining to rappelling, it’s going to be an experience for the books!

The entrance fee is only 25 pesos, but you’ll pay extra for each activity you’ll do, such as the following:

• Plunge – P700 per person
• Sky Ride – P250 per person
• River Tubing – P200.00/person
• Kayaking – P200.00/person
• River/Mountain Trekking/Hiking – P200.00/person
• Wall Climbing – P100.00/person
• Rappel w/ root climbing – P400.00/person
• Suislide – P350.00/person

There is more, but these are the most common and exciting activities you can do!

Danao Adventure Park is not just a place for adrenaline junkies, but also for those who appreciate natural beauty, and I highly recommend coming.

LONOY COLD SPRING

Lonoy Cold Spring is one of the top Bohol attractions and a great spot to spend an hour or two swimming in the man-made pools which are fed by a nearby freshwater stream.

Lonoy Cold Spring is located in Jagna and can be visited on the same day you visit Kinahugan Falls. F rom Anda, it is a 38km drive which takes around 55 minutes and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

Lonoy Cold Spring is made up of three separate springs that are fed from the runoff of water from the nearby mountains.

The flow of water cascades down the hillside into each man-made pool and meets the freshwater stream at the bottom.

It’s a popular location for the locals to hang out on weekends and you won’t find too many tourists here.

They are always very friendly and welcoming to foreigners so take the time to get to know them and learn more about the local way of life here in Bohol.

Snacks and drinks are also available for purchase from the little shop next to the springs.

The water inside Lon oy Cold Spring is no more than six feet deep and it’s a great spot to cool off while listening to the sounds of the surrounding forested area.

LAMANOK ISLAND & MANGROVE BOARDWALK

Lamanok Island, also spelled Lamanoc, is said to be one of the most mysterious places to go in Bohol.

Lamanok has a long history of being a sacred place for priests and healers who would make offerings to nature spirits on the island and some people claim to have seen or heard paranormal activity on Lamanoc.

Uncover the island’s rich heritage on the Lamanok Island Mystic Experience Tour which costs around 300 pesos and includes a guide, entrance fees, and a boat trip. You can book a Lamanok Island Tour via your accommodation in Anda.

Apart from the spookiness of Lamanok, you can enjoy a half-day of fun activities such as island hopping, kayaking, hiking, and caving.

The journey also begins with a stroll through the mangrove forest across a boardwalk that is constructed completely out of bamboo.

CABAGNOW CAVE POOL

Mother Nature has carved over twenty major cave pools in Anda and  Cabagnow Cave Pool is arguably the biggest, the best, and the most beautiful out of them all.

I highly recommend adding Cabagnow Cave Pool to your list of must-visit tourist spots in Bohol.

From the main town in Anda, Cabagnow Cave Pool is a 5-minute drive. The entrance fee is 50 pesos and the parking fee is 20 pesos.

Follow the dirt trail from the parking lot to Cabagnow Cave Pool which is clearly marked and it takes no more than 10 minutes to walk.

About 2 minutes in, I came across an intersection and a sign that read  ‘Tibaw Cave Pool’  with an arrow pointing to the left which leads down to another epic cave pool. I decided to check this one out first before heading over to Cabagnow Cave Pool.

This unique cenote / sinkhole / cave pool is surrounded by coral rock and  filled with fresh water  which is fed from the nearby mountains.

To enter the deep blue-colored pool you can either walk across the rocks and slip in on the shallow side or if you’re keen on a jump there is a 2-meter cliff jump on the opposite side of the pool.

The depth of the water is around 3 meters deep so you won’t have to worry about hitting the bottom if you decide to do some cliff jumping.

I continued on to find Cabagnow Cave Pool which is only a 5-minute walk from Tibaw Cave Pool.

The Cabagnow Cave Pool is much larger but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to enter the pool without the ladder that used to be in place.

It’s a 5-meter drop into the sinkhole so there is no way of getting out once you’re down in the water.

BLUE HEAVEN VIEWPOINT ANDA

The Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda is the highest peak on the Anda Peninsula which offers panoramic views of Bohol Island and its coastlines.

I visited Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda one afternoon to watch the sunset and it was one of the highlights of my Bohol trip.

Blue Heaven Viewpoint is approximately a 20-minute drive inland from Anda town center and the entrance is free.

It’s very easy to find this viewpoint with the use of Google maps and when you arrive at the jump-off point on the side of the main road, it’s a short 2-minute walk along a dirt trail to the top of the hill.

There is a small sheltered hut at the summit offering extensive views of the Anda region and its beaches. On a clear day, you can see the neighboring islands of Camiguin and Surigao.

Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda, in my opinion, is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Bohol.

QUINALE BEACH ANDA

Quinale Beach was one of my favorite beaches to explore while I was in Anda and coincidently, it’s dubbed the best beach in Bohol.

Quinale Beach Anda is most famed for its long stretch of white soft sands, crystal clear waters, palm tree fringed shores, beach bars, and open-style huts that are dotted along the coastline.

Not a bad spot to spend a few hours if you ask me!

The best time to visit Quinale Beach is during high tide to see its true beauty. Visiting at low tide is also okay but there may be a lot of seaweed grass along the shores.

There are many spots to perch up under the shade of a coconut palm or under the sun to work on that summer tan.

Quinale Beach is not to be missed on your list of must-see Bohol tourist spots.

CATERES CAVE POOL

Cateres Cave Pool is one of the many epic cave pools in Anda and a real hidden treasure.

From the town center of Anda, it is approximately a 5-minute drive to reach Cateres Cave Pool.

Follow Dapdap Beach Road right to the end till you come to a closed-off gate and this is the jump-off point.

The trail is narrow and overgrown but I assure you it emerges at the Cateres Cave Pool. It’s a short 2-minute walk from the jump-off point and there is no entrance fee.

When I arrived there was a group of teens hanging out, listening to music, and drinking rum. They were super friendly and I sat down and chatted with them for a while.

The cave pool is tucked away under the cliffs and stalagmite pinnacles hang from the ceiling. I couldn’t resist jumping into the turquoise lagoon to cool off.

Cateres Cave Pool is not as popular as Cabagnow Cave Pool and chances are you won’t see any other tourists here.

CANUBA BEACH

Canuba Beach is one of the most beautiful yet underrated beaches in Bohol.

White sands, beach shacks, and a palm tree-fringed shoreline make this location a must-see Bohol tourist attraction.

Canuba Beach can be found in the Jagna region. From Anda, it is approximately a 50-minute drive to reach Can-uba Beach.

When we visited Canuba Beach we were literally the only two people along the entire coastline. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and I was in complete awe of the sheer beauty of this place.

If you’re looking for an uncrowded beach to spend some time during your Bohol trip, head over to Canuba Beach and you will find exactly that!

WHITE BEACH ANDA

White Beach in Anda is hands down one of the best beaches in Bohol.

I visited White Beach for sunset one afternoon and explored the white sands, swam in the shallow crystalline waters, and hung out underneath the coconut palms.

From the town center in Anda, it is a short 5-minute drive to White Beach. You can ride your scooter all the way down to Anda White Beach Resort and park in the small parking lot.

From the jump-off point, follow the dirt trail on the right-hand side of the resort to get down to the beach.

My favorite part about White Beach Anda is the cluster of palm trees that reside on the soft sands.

I spent some time taking photos here before running into the ocean to cool off after a long day of adventures. The crystal clear waters here are to die for!

Once again there were no other tourists in sight, just a bunch of local kids running around on the beach, kicking sand and having an absolute blast. Ah, the simple things!

COMBENTO CAVE POOL

After Cabagnow Cave Pool, Combento Cave Pool in Anda is my second favorite cave pool in the region and a must-visit while you’re exploring Bohol.

From the town center of Anda, it is approximately a 5-minute drive to reach Combento Cave Pool. You’ll find a small parking lot at the jump-off point and there is an entrance fee of 25 pesos.

A coconut palm tree forest welcomes you as you enter past the ticket office and the Combento Cave is located in the back corner of the property. The locals will be sure to point it out to you.

A set of concrete stairs with bamboo hand railings leads the way through a narrow entrance and opens up into a large dome-like cave with a freshwater lagoon inside.

The crystalline water inside the Combento Cave is incredibly transparent with a hint of blue. It’s waist-deep and a great spot for a refreshing dip.

The cave is quite dark inside and only natural light fills the dome at certain times of the day.

You don’t need much time to check out the Combento Cave but you could quite easily spend a couple of hours swimming in the lagoons and chilling out under the canopy of the coconut palm forest.

ALICIA PANORAMIC PARK

Last but not least in this Bohol tourist spots guide is the Alicia Panoramic Park near Anda.

Alicia Panoramic Park is a hill that you can hike and that’ll get you to some of the best views of Bohol.

The hike lasts between 1 and 2 hours, and the last part is particularly steep, so I do not recommend coming during the rainy season.

Also, getting here is a journey and, despite taking about 1 hour from Poblacion, Anda, you can expect rough roads that aren’t easy to drive on. If you still decide to come, I highly recommend getting travel insurance – safety first!

To hike the Alicia Panoramic Park, you’ll have to get a guide, and you can contact Kuyang Tour Guide on Facebook . You can expect to pay around 300 pesos or 500 if you decide to camp overnight.

All in all, while it’s far from an easy hike, the views are worth it and I suggest you come if you have some time left after visiting other Bohol tourist spots!

ARRIVING IN BOHOL

If you are arriving on the island by ferry, see below for the best ways to get from Tagbilaran Port to Panglao and from Tagbilaran Port to Anda.

Tagbilaran Port to Panglao (45 Minutes)

From Tagbilaran to Panglao, you have the option of taking a shared minivan, private taxi, public bus, or tricycle.

TRICYCLE + BUS:

The cheapest option is to take a short tricycle from Tagbilaran Port to Dao Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran City for 30 Pesos ($1.50).

From there you can take the public bus to Alona Beach in Panglao (the main tourist hub in Panglao) which costs around 50 – 100 Pesos ($2.50 – $5).

SHARED MINIVAN:

A shared minivan transfer from Tagbilaran Port to the doorstep of your hotel in Panglao is another great option for only 300 Pesos ($15).

Tricycle rides from Tagbilaran to Panglao cost around 200 – 300 Pesos ($10 – $15) depending on your bartering skills.

I don’t recommend this option because long rides on a tricycle are very uncomfortable.

PRIVATE TAXI:

A private taxi from Tagbilaran to Panglao costs around 700 Pesos ($35).

Tagbilaran Port to Anda (3 Hours)

From Tagbilaran Port to Anda, you have the option of taking a private taxi, public bus, or shared minivan.

The cheapest option is to take a tricycle from Tagbilaran Port to the Dao Bus terminal in Tagbilaran City for 30 Pesos.

From there you can take the public bus to Anda which costs around 110 Pesos.

Minivans are another cheap option to reach Anda for as little as 120 Pesos though it can get quite claustrophobic as they try to fit as many people in the vans as possible.

A private taxi from Tagbilaran to Anda costs around 3000 Pesos.

i think the chocolate hills in carmen are 1,260 all in all since the 8 hills vanished because of the earthquake.

20 Epic Tourist Attractions in BOHOL – with prices

If you want to see the best of Bohol, this travel guide is for you! During my one-month backpacking trip in the Philippines , I spent almost one week on this beautiful island and I fell in love with its diversity.

From amazing beaches, to incredible waterfalls and stunning hills, Bohol has it all! You’ll find something different at every corner so be prepared for a bit of everything. 

There are so many tourist spots in Bohol that it’s hard to decide which one to see first. In my opinion, spending at least three days on this exotic island is necessary to see all it has to offer.

Without further ado, these are the top things to do in Bohol. Get ready for incredible sights mixed with a lot of adrenaline!

Good to know – Bohol has another smaller brother – Panglao Island. These two islands are connected through two bridges. This guide includes tourist attractions on both islands.

Things to know when visiting Bohol

Here are a few things you need to keep in mind when visiting Bohol. These tips & tricks will make your life easier and your trip more enjoyable.

• rent a motorbike – If you want to explore the island at your own pace, rent a motorbike. We rented ours from our guesthouse. 
• entrance fees –  Most of the tourist attractions in Bohol (including waterfalls) have entrance fees. Make sure to always have some cash on you at all times.
• always negotiate – If you plan on buying souvenirs, you can always negotiate the price.

1. Bamboo Hanging Bridge

One of the places you have to visit in Bohol is the Bamboo Hanging Bridge . There are actually two suspended bamboo bridges that you can visit. You’ll cross one bridge and come back on the other.

Both bridges are hanging over the Sipatan River. The area is surrounded by lush vegetation and the views are pretty spectacular. However, keep in mind that this is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Bohol so expect to find lots of tourists there.

2. Dimiao Falls

I’ve visited many waterfalls during my  one-and-a-half trip in Asia but Dimiao Falls is one of my favorites. To get to it you’ll need a motorbike. Unfortunately, this waterfall is not included in any of the guided tours available.

However, driving to Dimiao Falls is totally worth it. This waterfall is well hidden inside the dense jungle and fortunately, there are only a few tourists who know about it. This is one of the Bohol hidden gems.

Don’t forget to bring your swimming suit!

When we visited there were only a few of locals at the waterfall. Some of them were cliff jumping. If you want to try it too, make sure that the water is deep enough! Otherwise, you can simply enjoy the view, walk on the suspended bamboo bridges or swim in the natural pool formed at the base of the falls.

3. Corella Tarsier Sanctuary

Tarsiers are some of the cutest animals and they can be found on Bohol Island. It’s extremely important to visit a responsible sanctuary because when stressed, Tarsiers commit suicide. I strongly recommend visiting the Corella Tarsier Sanctuary where these cute animals are kept safe. 

Don’t visit places where Tarsiers are kept in cages or where tourists are allowed to get extremely close to them. These are the smallest primates and what makes them really special is the fact that they can rotate their head 180 degrees each direction. It will be a unique experience to see them!

4. Alona Beach

Alona Beach is a must see in Bohol. This is the starting point for all the island hopping tours but it’s also a great place to spend a few hours relaxing, eating something delicious, or swimming.

This is the most popular beach in Bohol and for good reason. The white sand combined with the turquoise water creates a spectacular sight. The only downside to this place is the fact that there are many tourists.

If you’re looking for a hidden beach that you can enjoy by yourself, Alona Beach is not the one! However, I still think it’s a great beach and it’s definitely worth visiting.

5. Anda Cave Pools

Far away from the touristy area is the beautiful town of Anda. The Cave Pools near this town are some pretty fascinating places that are worth visiting. The most popular one is called Cabagnow Cave Pool .

Some of these caves have stairs leading to the pools. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can swim there.

6. Chocolate Hills

What else to visit in Bohol? Well, you can’t leave the island without seeing the famous Chocolate Hills. There are many viewpoints around the island but I chose to go to the “ Chocolate Hills View Point ” and I wasn’t disappointed.

After climbing a few stairs, I reached the top of the viewing platform and I was rewarded with some awesome views towards the Chocolate Hills. Too bad the rain was coming and we had to leave after just a few minutes.

The Chocolate Hills are round-shaped hills, covered in grass. During the summer, the grass changes its color and turns into brown – hence the name Chocolate Hills. It is estimated that there are over 1800 of such dome-shaped hills on Bohol Island.

7. Man-Made Forest

One of the Bohol activities included in most of the guided tours is a stop at the Man-Made Forest. But what makes this forest unique, you might ask.

Well, it’s a 2-kilometer long man-made mahogany forest. It’s great for photos (you’ll see lots of tourists taking photos here) and perfect to relax for a few minutes. The tall trees create a natural tunnel, covering the sky. It’s a unique sight but not a must see. If you don’t have enough time, you can skip it :).

8. Kinahugan Falls

There are plenty of tourist attractions in Bohol and Kinahugan Falls is one of them. Although this waterfall is not as impressive as Dimiao Falls or Can-Umantad Falls, it’s worth visiting if you have the time.

Kinahugan Falls is great for a quick swim. The waterfall is not very big but most probably you won’t find any tourists here which is a big plus. 

9. Loboc River Cruise

The next on my list of things to do in Bohol is the Loboc River Cruise. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island and it involves some great views and a lot of delicious food.

Hop on the river cruise on the Sipatan River and admire the villages you’ll pass by and the lush greenery all while enjoying lunch. It doesn’t get better than this, trust me.

If you’re visiting Bohol during the high season, I recommend booking your tickets at least one day in advance. 

10. Pangas Falls

One of the Bohol attractions you have to visit is Pangas Falls. What I loved about this waterfall was that there were no tourists in sight. I love off-the-beaten-path places where I can sit and enjoy the views.

Pangas Falls is situated close to the Chocolate Hills View Point and it’s the perfect place to go for a swim. The fresh water gathers in a natural pool at the base of the waterfall. Don’t forget your swimming suit home!

11. Baclayon Church

If you don’t already know, most of the Filipinos are Catholic. Baclayon Church is considered to be one of the oldest churches in the country. Its construction was finished in 1727.

12. Go island hopping

My favorite activity in Bohol was the island hopping tour. All tours start from Alona Beach (you can buy your tickets there or online ) and they cover two incredible islands – Balicasag Island and Virgin Island .

You’ll have the chance to see the dolphins and swim with the turtles at Balicasag Island. My favorite place was the Virgin Island. This stretch of sand with no vegetation is surrounded by the clearest water I’ve ever seen.

If you’re feeling hungry, now is the time to grab something to eat. At the Virgin Island you’ll find lots of boats selling delicious local food. You can even find fresh coconuts. Is this paradise?

13. White Beach

If you’re looking for a more laid-back beach, White Beach is for you. This beach is mostly visited by locals and I loved watching the children playing in the sand.

Unlike Alona Beach, you won’t find many restaurants here but the views are pretty incredible. The water is great for swimming as there are almost no waves at all. Enjoy this hidden paradise!

14. Try some local food

Trying some local dishes is a must when in Bohol. Here are some of the things you have to try:

• Calamay – a coconut shell full of glutinous rice, sugar, coconut milk and peanuts
• Torta – a kind of bread cake
• Peanut kisses – you’ll find these dome-shaped (just like the Chocolate Hills) cookies in supermarkets

15. Hinagdanan Cave

Hinagdanan Cave is one of the things to see in Bohol. This unique cave is actually situated on Panglao Island (just across the bridge from Bohol) and is one of the most touristy attractions on the island.

Most guided tours include a stop at the Hingagdanan Cave. Once you climb down the narrow stairs, you’ll enter the cave that hides a large pool of fresh water. If you want, you can go swimming.

Honestly, I was pretty afraid to swim there since the cave was quite dark. Swimming in deep, dark water is one of my fears. 

16. Ingkumhan Falls

What else to see in Bohol? Take your motorbike and head to the beautiful Ingkumhan Falls. This small waterfall is perfect for adventure seekers. 

You can try cliff jumping and there is even a rope to swing above the natural pool formed at the base of the waterfall. You won’t find many tourists here. Relax and enjoy the nature!

17. Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

Located in the eastern part of the island, Cadapdanan Rice Terraces are proof of Bohol’s diversity. I never miss a chance to see some rice terraces.

There is something about their natural beauty that relaxes me. I could watch them for hours. If you have the time, add these rice terraces on your itinerary. If you don’t want to drive all the way to the rice terraces, book this guided tour .

18. Can-Umantad Falls

This is one of the tallest waterfalls on Bohol Island. The beauty of Can-Umantad Falls is impressive. There are several pools where you can swim and refresh yourself from the heat. 

One unique thing about this waterfall is the incredibly blue water. If you feel like the sun is too harsh, you can hide in the shade of the trees. You can easily spend a few hours here.

It’s a long drive to Can-Umantad Falls and I recommend booking a guided tour. This tour includes other awesome stops at Anda Beach and Cadapdapan Rice Terraces.

19. Doljo Beach

One of the must see places in Bohol is Doljo Beach. If you’re searching for a place to watch the sunset, choose Doljo Beach. You’ll find many resorts on this exotic paradise but this beach is low-key compared to Alona Beach.

There are also a few restaurants, in case you get hungry. The atmosphere here is relaxed and the people are friendly towards tourists. Doljo Beach is also a great place for snorkeling.

20. Momo Beach

I’m ending this list of things to do in Bohol with Momo Beach. Situated on Panglao Island, this awesome beach is a great choice if you want to escape from all the chaos surrounding the popular tourist attractions.

Grab some snacks and something to drink and head to Momo Beach to enjoy a magical sunset. This beach is perfect if you’re looking for a romantic place to spend the evening with your loved one.

Where to stay in Bohol

30 + Absolutely Epic Things to Do in Bohol/Panglao, Philippines

If you’re looking for the best things to do in Panglao and Bohol , look no further! I visited Bohol for 12 days, spending time in both Panglao and Bohol. While I enjoyed my time in Panglao, I also ventured into Bohol (near Anda) and stayed a few nights there. I HIGHLY recommend a few nights in Bohol if you have the time.

This list covers the most popular tourist destinations, lesser-known beaches, and even hidden gems in Bohol (such as waterfalls, cave pools, and the BEST beach). Hint: The best beach isn’t in Panglao at all!

Oh yeah, and an awesome spot where you can try a vegetarian burger made from coconut!

First, I’ll get some general information about visiting Bohol below, then go by category of things to do. Be sure to browse it all, as you want to know about some of these lesser-known destinations!

General Information for Visiting Bohol Panglao

Here are some thing to now before you visit Bohol. IF you are exploring more of the Philippines, check out our recommended Philippines itinerary.

How to Get Here:

There are multiple ways to get to Bohol, including flying or taking the ferry.

By Plane to Panglao & Bohol:

There are multiple daily direct flights from Manila to Bohol. A few other  domestic and international direct flights to Panglao  from Busan, Seoul, Davao, and El Nido also exist.

The only airport in Panglao and Bohol is on Panglao Island, and is called Panglao International Airport (TAG). I paid about $30 for a direct one-way ticket from Manila, which is standard.

By Ferry to Panglao & Bohol:

If you fly into Cebu or visit another island, such as Siquijor, you can take the ferry to Bohol.

You can take OceanJet from Cebu and easily  book your ferry ticket from Cebu to Bohol on Klook . The journey is about 2.5 hours and costs about $16.)

How to Get Around:

Panglao and Bohol are bigger than they look, so figure out how you’ll get around ahead of time.

Tricycle or Motorbike Taxi:

Expect to work those haggling skills if you decide to use tricycles or motorbike taxis during your time in Panglao. Although there are supposedly set prices, you’ll often get over-quoted. Many times, when I asked for a tricycle or motorbike taxi, I felt ripped off.

For example, when I arrived at the airport, my host told me it would cost 200 pesos ($4) for a 4-minute ride. I declined her offer as I had paid only 100 pesos for a 25-minute motorcycle ride earlier that day in Manila. Instead, I left the airport and found a group of men and motorcycles waiting for rides. He quoted me 200 pesos, and I asked for 100 pesos. Deal.

Tricycles are the best way to get around if you only need to use them a couple of times a day. Otherwise, you might end up spending more than if you just rented a scooter.

Scooter Rental:

In my opinion, a scooter rental is the best way to get around Panglao and Bohol if you are comfortable driving one. You can move freely, and they’re perfect for day trips, as vans or tricycles can be expensive and time-restrictive.

I rented my scooter from  Bohol Bikes . They offer two options: the Honda Beat and the Honda Click. The Honda Beat was 50 pesos ($1) less per day, so I went with that. I rode it to Anda and up and down windy hills with no issues.

They also provided a full-coverage helmet and offered free delivery, as I was staying close to their business. For a daily scooter rental, expect to pay about $7-8.

Private Van or Car:

If you’re planning a day trip around Panglao and/or Bohol, a private van or car is one of the best ways to go, especially if you’re with multiple people, children, or those who can’t drive a scooter. We rented a private driver for a day (not a tour) to take us to Loboc River and the Chocolate Hills. The cost was 3,000 pesos, or about $60.

Best Things to Do in Panglao + Bohol

I tried my best to organize things to do in Panglao and Bohol in the headers below. You’ll find lists including the best beaches in Panglao, the best off-shore islands, the best hidden gems in Bohol, and more. Be sure to browse it all so you can build a well-rounded Panglao Bohol itinerary.

Visit the Beaches on Panglao:

Starting off with the obvious, one of the best things to do in Bohol is visit the Panglao beaches! I went around the island to check each of them out, seeking the best beaches in Panglao. I’ll admit, I didn’t enjoy the beaches as much as I’d hoped.

There are only three beaches you must go to if you want to wade around the waters (by my standards, at least). I’ll cover all the best beaches in Panglao below, but if you want to know the best beaches in Panglao, Bohol, read about Dumaluan Beach, White Beach, and Anda Long White Beach (under Bohol Day Trips below).

Alona Beach

As a beach, Alona is quite beautiful and blue (on a sunny day!). It mainly offers beachgoers a nice place to lay out and sunbathe. As for swimming, I was pretty disappointed. There was so much sea grass on the bottom. Some spots were nice and sandy, but I couldn’t move around much before stepping into a bumpy lump of seagrass again.

The main reason to visit Alona Beach is for the beachside businesses, as there are many dive shops, tour companies, and restaurants. You can even get a massage while lying back and enjoying the sunshine!

Momo Beach North Panglao

After seeing this recommended in a few blogs, I couldn’t resist visiting Momo Beach. The name is also cute. Sadly, the beach wasn’t all I hoped it would be.

Let’s get into the goods: at the time I went, there were only a few people. Plus, the contrasting views of the rocky shore on one end and Cebu Island in the distance were quite nice. There also aren’t tons of boats, meaning the water is more accessible, and some people were out enjoying the water. But the beach had quite a bit of vegetation washed up on shore, and the ocean floor was entirely seagrass.

There is a better beach if you want a nice dip. Plus, the road to get here is ROCKY. If you have time, it’s okay to check it out, but I personally wouldn’t go again.

Panglao Beach

I read about this beach from someone who visited it, and they seemed to love it! But I definitely did not.

While it was mostly locals hanging out here, they didn’t give off the best vibes. And locals or not, if people have a weird energy coming off them, you will know it.

At the top of the beach were a few men hanging out and drinking, eyeing me. The beach was full of boats, and the water was similar to Alona: beautiful but grassy.

As I was leaving the beach, I also got a few of the psst, pssts from some local teenagers. While most Filipinos are super easy to smile at and chat with, I was oddly uncomfortable here and left after a few minutes.

Dumaluan Beach (The BEST Beach on Panglao Island)

Now, Dumaluan Beach is the spot! And, unfortunately, it’s probably the only genuinely nice beach on Panglao that’s also commodified with resorts. While you can access the beaches, some parts are public and others private.

So, how did I get here? Well, a friend told me I could go through the Oceanica Resort and act like I belong there. Since the resorts have a security gate, you’ll have to go through them. The security just opened the gate and let me drive through, no questions asked. I even used the resort’s outdoor shower area to shower and change, haha.

The water is incredible; you can swim, and the bottom is sandy, unlike any other beach on Panglao.

Another route I read about from a Google review was to gi to White Beach and walk down to Dumaluan Beach. I haven’t tried this, but I decided to mention it.

White Beach

White Beach surprised me. It reminded me of Dumaluan Beach, but less maintained and with more homey lodgings and restaurants instead of fancy resorts. The waves were quite intense when I went, too. I didn’t swim, but a few people were in the water.

I only had a little time to spend here. Still, from what I experienced, it’s probably one of the best beaches to enjoy the water behind Dumaluan.

Venture to Offshore Islands in Panglao

An adventure to Panglao’s offshore islands and reefs is the best for snorkeling, swimming, and diving. If you’re an ocean lover like me, this is the section for you!

Go Scuba Diving to the Islands

If you’ve got your open-water certification to scuba dive, you can’t skip out on an island scuba dive trip. You’ll be able to see massive sea turtles, sea snakes, barracudas, jackfish, and more. I got to dive at both Pamilacan and Balicasag, and between the huge schools of fish, sea turtles, and glowing corals (yes, they looked like they were glowing!), I was so glad I jumped in on the day trips!

We dove with  Bohol Divers Club , and the service was top-notch. I was actually confused when our guides switched out our tanks each dive—talk about convenience! Each day trip included three dives and a freshly cooked lunch, coffee, and tea. The boat is also massive and covered, so being there all day was quite cozy.

Day Trip Dive at Balicasag Island

Of the two island diving trips I did, Balicasag was my favorite. We saw at least 10 sea turtles, and some were huge! Of course, though, this probably depends on the day. 

A friend of mine did the same dive and she saw very few turtles, but did see a shark!

Balicasag is also limited to only 150 divers daily, meaning it can be hard to reserve, so book in advance.

Day Trip Dive at Pamilacan

Another popular scuba diving island day trip option is Pamalican Island. Like Balicasag, you’ll probably see some sea turtles and other amazing underwater life. The island is about an hour’s boat ride from Alona, and on the way (or coming back), you might even spot some dolphins.

Learn to Free Dive

I didn’t have time to free dive in Panglao, but my freediver friends tell me Panglao is one of the best places to train for freediving… which means I had to include it.

In addition to amazing freedive conditions, the learning costs are some of the best I’ve seen. So, if you’ve been thinking of getting certified through AIDA or Mochanovs, doing it here is a great deal. You can also take a one-day introduction course if you’re not ready to commit to a full course.

My friend Ray of Freedive Nomad, who came to train here, recommends  Sophie for freediving courses  for anyone coming to Panglao!

Panglao Island Hopping Tours (with or without Snorkeling)

If you want to enjoy the surrounding islands, you can opt for an island-hopping tour. You can usually organize these through your accommodation or the many people selling tours along Alona Beach. 

Custom Island Trip with Private Guide

For example, a friend of mine went only to Pamalican for the day and opted to snorkel as well. They contacted their boat directly and had a private tour and guide. If you want a private boat and guide, call Mark Anthony at +63 9999688384 (only by calling a local number).

He even brought earplugs for my friends as the boat was quite loud! Plus, if you do a private tour, you can even ask about spending the night on one of the islands!

Snorkeling Island Trip with Dive Company

If you want to spend the day on a boat and only snorkel at Pamalican or Balicasag, you can go with a dive company like  Bohol Divers Club , who will take you along with the scuba divers. You can spend the day on the boat and have lunch included.

Organized Island Hopping Tours

Tour options will take you to a couple islands, usually Pamalican and Virgin Island or Balicasag and Virgin Island. This trip lets you experience more islands, like this  Panglao island hopping tour  here.

Other Top Things to Do in Panglao Bohol

Try bohol bee farm ice cream.

I tried at least four flavors of ice cream from Bohol Bee Farm. The good news is you don’t have to go to Bohol Bee Farm to get it. As it’s pretty popular, there are two stores in Alona where you can get it—perfect for enjoying at the beach!

Its texture is unlike any ice cream I’ve had before, as it’s made with coconut milk and served in a cassava cone! Their flavors embrace local favorites such as ube and mango. But my favorite has to be Spicy Ginger! It’s also cheaper than other ice creams served in Alona.

Feast at Lamoy Restaurant

Unfortunately, Most travelers I meet say that Filipino food isn’t their favorite. And while I agree, after all (I mean, how can Vietnamese or Thai food be beat?), this restaurant serves some quality Filipino dishes. They also serve Chinese food.

My friends here introduced me to this place, and we returned again, as it never disappointed me. When you order, I highly recommend the garlic rice, sizzling squid, and any of the fried chicken flavors! 

Explore Alona Town

Alona is the most popular area in Panglao for shopping, hotels, bars, restaurants, and more. So, of course, you must check it out at least once. It’s also where Alona Beach is, so it’s easy to hang out at the beach and browse dive shops and other tour operators.

If your goal is to enjoy the nightlife in Panglao, then Alona is the best place to stay, as there’s nightly live music, beachfront restaurants, and bars perfect for hopping. If you plan to get around by tricycle, Alona is one of the most accessible places to catch one as they wait outside on the main road from the Alona strip.

Swim at Hinagdanan Cave

The Hinagdanan Cave has a unique history. It was discovered by a farmer and served as a place to hide from the Japanese Imperialist Army during World War II.

The entrance is 25 pesos (~.50 cents), but if you want to swim, you have to pay an additional 100 pesos (~$ $2). While the cave is pretty cool, I’m not sure if it was worth going just to look. I’ve been in some pretty epic caves, which is why this wasn’t that amazing to me.

I would recommend it, though, if you want to swim. The cool water is worth it.

A side note:  If you enjoy smoothies, the stands outside the cave area sell them for MUCH cheaper than in Alona. So I 1000% recommend stopping here for a smoothie.

Go Snorkeling from the Beach

Snorkeling is not just off the beach in Panglao as good as snorkeling on the islands or offshore by boat, but it gets the job done! Although I didn’t do this personally, you can see some starfish and other life snorkeling near the shorelines.

It’s also a good way to experience snorkeling if you aren’t comfortable in deeper water yet, so you can practice a bit before going on an island snorkeling tour.

Try Scuba Diving

I could have included this in the list above for island trips. Still, you need a certification to go on any islands for diving. So if you’re interested in experiencing and trying diving offshore in Panglao, you can opt for  Discover Diving .

Watch the Sun Set at Panglao Hermit Beach

This part of the island has a view straight towards the sunsett over Cebu Island. I got here a bit late and was disappointed I didn’t make a late afternoon of it! Not only is the viewpoint spectacular, but it appears to be a pretty cool, chill spot.

While there’s only a tiny strip of beach, there’s still plenty of open spaces to sit among the tree-lined shore. I suggest coming an hour before sunset with a blanket, snacks, and drinks.

Get a Massage

I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical about getting a massage here. After searching Google a bit, I read many reviews that mentioned staff talking loudly and basically ruining customer experiences. Eventually, though, I found one that was both a great price and had primarily positive reviews, so I gave it a shot.

Hilariously, a staff member was playing a video game somewhat loudly when I arrived. Still, they had no issue to turn it down. I got an hour-long Thai massage for 600 pesos (about $12), which was INCREDIBLE. I went to Getaway Spa , and the name of my masseuse was Rose. I 100% recommend her.

You can also enjoy massages on the beach if that’s more your style.

Admire the Dauis Church

If you’re a fan of visiting religious sites, then you’ve got to go to the Dauis Church. The architecture is magnificent, and the interior will wow you. I didn’t spend a lot of time here, but it was worth the stop to admire and learn some history surrounding the Spanish missionaries who came over 300 years ago.

Located near Tagbilaran City on the other side of Panglao, it’s most accessible by scooter or tricycle. If you hire a private driver for Chocolate Hills or Locob River, you can also request a stop here along the way.

Molave Cliff Jumping (Supposedly No Longer Available)

I was so excited when I heard about this, ! Let’s jump off some cliffs! But after checking out recent Google reviews, I found that cliff jumping is no longer available. Instead, you can pay to go snorkeling at the reef here.

I didn’t go by to get the full scoop, but I wanted to mention it here as a heads-up.

Things to Do in Bohol from Panglao:

Stand-up paddle board or kayak on loboc river.

Stand-up paddle boarding has to be one of my favorite things to do in Panglao Bohol. If you asked me to go again, I wouldn’t hesitate. Located about an hour from Alona, the Loboc River is an absolute (emerald) gem. Known as one of the cleanest rivers in the Philippines, the water gets its green hue from the lush greenery around it.

We booked with  SUP Tours Philippines , and the hour-long tour was super fun, and the views were stunning! They also offer a night tour to view the fireflies. Be sure to ask your guide for a life jacket if you don’t know how or can’t swim well, as the water is quite deep.

Cruise and Dine on the Loboc River

If paddle boarding on the Loboc River doesn’t interest you, here’s another option to enjoy this gorgeous river: a river cruise! I didn’t do this one, but you get to enjoy the scenery on the river cruise. It’s also shaded, which is perfect for a super sunny day!

And, of course, a local meal is served on the cruise.

Visit the Famous Chocolate Hills

The Chocolate Hills are a MUST VISIT in Bohol. Plan a day trip here, especially if you love geography.

Formed ancient corals, erosion, and time, there are over 1,200 of these round hills dotted around Bohol. They’re spectacular to see from the high viewing platform, and, of course, snap a photo! I especially recommend coming around sunset.

You can get here by riding a scooter or going on an organized  Chocolate Hills tour  (which also includes the Loboc River Cruise)!

Visit the Tarsiers

If you’ve ever wondered what those little primates with big eyes and long fingers are, they are tarsiers! And you can visit them in Bohol. There are two sanctuaries you can visit, although the one in Corella was more recommended to me due to ethics.

I ended up not going to either, but if you decide to go, read up on your options to make the most informed decision!

Drive Through the Bilar Man-Made Forest

While simple, the Man-Made Forest is one of those unique things to do in Panglao Bohol for those who love a scenic drive. Most of the drives around the area will be scenic already, but the Man-Made Forest is a hidden gem in Bohol. The winding roads are lined with massive white and red mahogany trees and other vegetation.

It stands out from the tropical palms around the island and provides great shade coverage.

Admire the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

Unlike the Chocolate Hills and Loboc River, which are an hour and a half drive from Alona, the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces are about 2.5 to 3 hours away. Located practically on the other side of Bohol, the rice terraces are somewhat trippy and provide an awesome photo opp.

Since I stayed a few nights near Anda, it was about an hour-long ride to get here. To see them, you can pull into Eleuterio’s Restaurant, and they’ll direct you to the viewing point.

A trip here is also usually paired with a visit to the Can-umantad Falls, which is on the same property and covered soon.

Go Waterfall Hopping

One thing I didn’t realize about Bohol was how many waterfalls there are! I visited a few further out (listed below), but many waterfalls are less than 1.5 hours from Alona Beach. Some include Pangas Falls, Kawasan Falls, and Ingkumhan Falls.

I’ll share the falls I visited below, but they are much further out. If you plan to stay in Panglao and only go on day trips, I recommend the waterfalls listed above. You can easily get to them by motorbike or booking a  waterfall hopping tour .

Can-umantad Falls

The Can-umantad Falls is a waterfall below the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, about 2.5 hours from Alona Beach. I walked from Eleuterio’s Restaurant down the stairs (around 400 steps!) to reach them. I only learned you could also drive and park at the falls after! Oh well, I got my exercise in.

When I arrived, I paid 30 pesos (less than $1), and just wow! The waterfall is GORGEOUS. It was tall, the surrounding jungle lush, and the rock formations amazing. There are a few natural swimming pools, and the water is beautiful and only a little cold. After a few minutes of swimming, I adapted.

Can-umantad Falls closes around 5:30 pm, and they’ll ask you to stop swimming around 5:00 pm, so go earlier if you want to spend some time! There were also a few places to sit, making this a great spot to bring some snacks and spend an afternoon.

Kinahugan Falls

The Kinahugan Falls is the perfect spot to hang out with friends for a day. The area is well-shaded and has a beautiful natural pool—you can even jump into the water! There’s no entry fee, although there is a donation box at the top of the trail. There are also a few seating areas you can enjoy.

Be careful, though, as the rocks can be VERY slippery. I almost fell a couple of times.

Anda White Sand & Quinale Beach (The BEST BEACH in Panglao and Bohol)

Forget what I said about Dumaluan and White Beaches in Panglao – THIS is the best beach to visit here. But it will take you at least three hours to get from Alona. That’s why one of the things I recommend doing in Panglao/Bohol is to stay a night closer to Anda.

I list both beaches together because they’re on the same stretch of beach under two different names on Google Maps. When I went, I was in love! The photos don’t even do it justice.

The water was super warm (I went in April), and the white sand was fine and powdery. You can also swim here! The water wasn’t too deep, but I could still paddle around and enjoy it. There are a few rocky patches, but the majority was clean and smooth sandy.

After that, all the beaches in Panglao mean nothing to me. So, if you have the time and want to visit the best beach in Bohol with fewer people, this is the spot!

Try the Vegetarian Coconut Burger at Coco Loco

If you make it to Anda, one place you’ve got to eat is Coco Loco. Just a few blocks from Anda Long White Beach, they serve plenty of vegetarian dishes. Of all the vegetarian dishes like hummus and salads, the must try is the coconut burger. Yep, it’s a vegetarian burger made from coconut! I was shocked by how good it was. Whether or not you’re vegetarian, you’ve got to give this unique burger a try.

Cabagnow Pool Cave

When I found this place on Google, I knew I had to go! Unfortunately, when I went, the whole road was blocked by a cement truck. The workers told me to just wait, but after about 15 minutes of sitting on my scooter, I decided to leave.

Since the cave pool is near the Anda Long White Beach, I recommend you pair stopping by here with a visit to the beach!

Stay the Night around Anda

For a different set of adventurous things to do in Bohol, stay a night or three to really check out all the waterfalls, beaches, and dive opportunities here. I stayed five nights near Guindulman, and it gave me plenty of time to visit multiple waterfalls, beaches, and rice paddies without rushing on a day trip.

Catch the Sunset at Cabantian Hills

If you’ve decided to stay a night near Anda, then this is a sunset you’ve got to see! I mean, you could do this on a day trip, but the ride back in the dark to Panglao won’t be fun.

The sunset here is better than any you can see in Panglao. The sun sets over rolling hills, and you’ll also have a view of the ocean. Even the drive here is super fun through the winding hilly road and gorgeous Chocolate Hills-Esque landscape.

8. Hinagdanan Cave

The Hinagdanan Cave is a welcome break from the typical beach activities in Panglao Island. The entrance can only be accessed one at a time and leads to a cavern that features a freshwater lagoon and natural rock formations. The term Hinagdanan is a Cebuano word for “laddered” and was named so because of how it was discovered – accidentally, by a farmer who was clearing land, and eventually built a ladder to access the cave. The cave was also used as a hiding spot by locals during the Second World War.

16. Blood Compact Site

Sandugo or blood compact is a Philippine ancient ritual wherein both factions cut their wrist and drink the blood together with wine or other liquids to seal an agreement and to signify their friendship. A shrine was built in honor of the historic blood compact between Rajah Sikatuna of Bohol and Miguel Lopez de Legaspi of Spain that is often considered as the First Treaty of Friendship between different cultures, races, and religions. A monument of five life-sized men performing the ritual, sculpted by Boholano, National Artist Napoleon Abueva, now stands in Brgy. Bool in Tagbilaran City. The Blood Compact Site is easily accessible even by tricycle since it is along the national highway. Aside from taking a trip back in history, you will also enjoy the cool breeze and refreshing view on the site.

17. Bohol Chocolate Hills

While it is still unknown how the famous Chocolate Hills came to be, and how many hills there are, one thing is certain – that the Chocolate Hills is a must-see attraction. They are green during the rainy season but turn brown during the dry season, resembling Hershey’s kisses chocolates, thus the name. They can be visited during both seasons, and they are just as marvelous all throughout the year. An endless view of these hills can best be appreciated at the Chocolate Hills Complex (view deck) in Carmen Town. If you want to visit without the huge crowds, go during sunrise. It takes extra effort, but the magical view of the hills under the golden hour light is worth it.

A trip to Bohol won’t be complete without visiting the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary. Endangered and a protected species, the tarsier is a tiny and odd-looking primate. Seeing one in real life is a special experience because Bohol is one of the few places you can get to see them up close. The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella is within a short 20-minute drive from Tagbilaran City. Inside the sanctuary, you will be able to see and take photos of these marvelous creatures in their natural habitat. Just remember no flash photography, please.

The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella is the only site in Bohol run by the Philippine Tarsier Foundation. If you want to help with the conservation of Tarsiers, visit this one and not the conservation area in Bilar named “Tarsier Conservation Area,” where the tarsiers are forcefully placed & constantly disturbed for visitors.

The Loboc River Cruise is a popular activity to do in Bohol. Not only will you enjoy a sumptuous buffet meal of local dishes, but you will also be entertained by a cultural show while cruising on a floating restaurant as you traverse through the jade-green waters of the Loboc River. Loboc is located approximately 24 kilometers away from Tagbilaran City. It’s about 40 mins by car, and an hour by public transport.

An excellent alternative is the Lo-ay River Cruise, which is nearer to Tagbilaran and also offers a similar experience.

20. Bilar Man-Made Forest

You wouldn’t believe that this two-kilometer canopy of verdant mahogany trees over the highway between the borders of Bilar and Loboc is actually manmade. The trees look almost uniform and are so close to each other that they make a great place for cooling down and taking breath-taking photos. The manmade forest is quite easy to access too and you can easily include this stopover in your itinerary. If you’re on your way to visit the Chocolate Hills from Loboc, you surely won’t miss it.

21. Baclayon Church

The Church of Immaculada Concepcion, or more popularly known as Baclayon Church, is one of the oldest churches in the Philippines and probably the most famous heritage site in Bohol. It was founded in 1596, but was only elevated as a Parish in 1717 and was completed in 1727. Its original façade is made of coral stones that were dragged from the sea and cut into cruciform shapes. In the 19th century, another facade was built together with surrounding stone buildings. An old convent, now converted into a museum, is located next to the church and houses century-old relics.

Loon Macaques (Mangrove Monkeys) in Bohol

The Loon Macaques found in Cantomucad, Loon, Bohol is now one of the tourist attractions the Bohol government is heavily promoting. Because it is not usually included in a countryside tour package, the Macaques in Loon are not as popular as the Chocolate Hills , Baclayon Church and Loboc River . Macaques are short-tailed monkeys of rocky regions such as Asia and Africa. In the Philippines, there are many of these monkeys in the wild but some people are capturing them and making them as pets at home.

The Mangrove Monkeys are found in the inner part of Bohol but it is only in Cantomucad where people do not intimidate these macaques as long as they are given food to eat. Cantomucad is one of the barangays of Loon that is referred to as the “ready-to-wear capital” of Bohol. Its RTW, as well as those produced in adjacent Pondol, lorded it over in retail stores in many business centers in the Visayas and Mindanao. Despite the advent of the “ukay-ukay”, the local garments manufacturing has survived through the years.

Meanwhile, a species of crab-eating monkeys inhabiting the barangay’s pristine mangrove forest may as yet trigger the business acumen of the local residents as the primates have become a tourist attraction and their habitat a showcase for environmental conservation. This early, some enterprising residents have produced macaques-inspired t-shirts for their “monkey business”.

Macaques belong to the subfamily Cercopithecinae. Although native to Asia and Nothern Africa, thousands of them are housed in research facilities, zoos, wildlife or amusement parks, and are kept as pets in private homes throughout the world, making them the most widely distributed genus of nonhuman primates.

Considered as true monkeys, these animals have a very intricate social structure and hierarchy. If a macaque of lower status in the social chain has eaten berries and there are none left for a higher-level macaque, the latter can, within this social organization, remove the berries from the former’s mouth.

Macaques, especially Macaca mulatta and Macaca fascicularis, are commonly used in research, most recently concerning AIDS. Their coloration includes gray, brown or black fur. They tend to be heavily built and medium to large in stature. Males and females may differ in weight, body size and canine (tooth) size. The species found in Cantomucad is Macaca fascicularis philippinensis.

Giving food to the animals is strictly the task of the caretakers and is done at certain times of the day.

When the monkeys are nowhere found, they are most likely engaged in things they normally do, like looking for crabs, clams and mudskippers (“tambasakan”); clinging and sleeping on tree branches; or just playing around with family members.

Loon Macaques also features a well-protected mangrovetum or mangrove garden, the species of which have been identified by the Bohol Environment Management Office. It has a receiving area and a boardwalk and there are no food service facilities available because the monkeys are sensitive to the smell of food.

Viewing Time

Because these wild Macaques have a huge habitat, they are not always available or seen in the feeding area. For those who want to experience or see these short-tailed monkeys, you can visit the place from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN. If you are only interested in watching the mangroves or the habitat of the macaques, you can visit until 5:00 PM.

More Information

Lush greeneries of bushes and trees surround the area of the Loon Macaques. The walkway going to the nipa house is made of bamboo and tourist can see a weird animal (I do not know the name) which looks like a combination of a crab and a scorpion – or maybe I should name it “Scorpiocrab”.

The entrance fee is only P40. This payment if for the fruits (papaya, banana, etc) to be fed to the monkeys to entice them to stay at the feeding area and call the other members of tribe through their own sound signals. For about 10-15 minutes, you will be very close with the monkeys but you are not allowed to hold them because they may think you are an enemy and the whole tribe will attack you.

Prohibited Acts

– Do not monkey around or make unnecessary noise. – Do not throw your garbage anywhere. – Do not feed the monkeys; our caretakers will do it or you. – Do not throw anything at the monkeys. – Do not smoke, eat or drink within the macaques’ habitat. – Do not cut or bend the branches of trees. – Do not hunt for any wildlife. – Do not sneak into the boardwalk from any illegal access. – Do not stay on the boardwalk for more than 30 minutes.

Sitting blissfully on the eastern side of the island, Anda has some of the best beaches in Bohol. Momentarily forget the bustling city life, rather travel to Anda to explore and relax, to adapt to the slow rhythm of life here, and to learn and enjoy the subtle pleasures such as the changing colors of the clouds and the sea.

It’s about 3 hours away from Tagbilaran and Panglao and though Anda, Bohol is overshadowed by this 2 municipalities, it sure deserves your attention as it exudes with dramatic coastline blissfully devoid of luxury trappings. You may be tempted to just relax on the beach, but take advantage of Anda’s intense natural beauty and unravel the beehive of adventures here. How to get to anda bohol.

Option 1: MANILA TO ANDA, BOHOL

RESERVE TAGBILARAN AIRPORT TRANSFER HERE

STEP 1:  Fly from Manila to Tagbilaran, Bohol.

STEP 2:  Once you exit Tagbilaran Airport, just hail a tricycle to take you to Dao Bus Terminal.

STEP 3: Take a bus or van en route to Anda, Bohol.  Transit time is about 2.5 to 3 hours.  Bus fare is roughly PHP 100/USD 2 (EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 8) and van fare is about PHP 120/USD 2.35 (EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 10).

STEP 4:  Alight at Brgy. Poblacion in Anda, Bohol. If you want to go to Cabagnow Cave Pool, Talisay Beach and other attractions in Anda, you can hire a tricycle or habal-habal.

*We used a private car when we visited so I’m not sure about the tricycle rates.  But you can also hire a car in Tagbilaran or Panglao for about PHP 2,500, inquire at the information desk at Tagbilaran Airport.

STEP 5: If you are headed to Cabagnow Cave Pool, make sure you text or call Kuya Charlie at mobile # 0912 – 414 5098.  He’s the care taker of Cabagnow Pool in Anda, Bohol.

STEP 6:  There’s an entrance fee of PHP 50 /USD 1 (EURO 0.83/SGD 1.33/MYR 4.10) per person at Cabagnow Cave Pool. Meanwhile, other tourist attractions in Anda, Bohol like Quinale Beach and Talisay Beach are FREE.

Option 2: CEBU CITY TO ANDA, BOHOL (BY FERRY/FASTCRAFT)

STEP 1: Ride a fast craft/ferry to Tagbilaran, Bohol at Pier 1 in Cebu City. You can check out the Cebu-Bohol ferry Schedule here   Ferry fare for tourist class/open air is around PHP 800/USD 16 (EURO 13/SGD 21/MYR 66), while Business Class fare is PHP 1,000/USD 20 (EURO 17/SGD 27/MYR 82).

STEP 2:   At Tagbilaran Port, charter a tricycle to take you to Dao Terminal.

STEP 3: Catch a bus (PHP 100/USD 2 /EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 8) or van PHP 120/USD 2.35 (EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 10) to Anda, Bohol. Transit time is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.

STEP 4:  Once you reach Brgy. Poblacion in Anda, you can charter a tricycle or habal-habal to take you to Quinale Beach, Talisay Beach or Cabagnow Cave Pool.  If you are headed to Cabagnow Cave Pool, Talisay Beach and other Anda tourist spots, you can hire a tricycle or habal-habal.

STEP 5:   Text the care taker of Cabagnow Pool – Kuya Charlie at mobile # 0912 – 414 5098. I encourage tipping kuya Charlie as he will assist you while you are inside the cave pool.

STEP 6:   Pay the PHP 50 /USD 1 (EURO 0.83/SGD 1.33/MYR 4.10) per head entrance fee at Cabagnow Cave Pool. Other tourist attractions in Anda, Bohol like Quinale Beach and Talisay Beach are FREE.

Option 3: ARGAO, SOUTH CEBU TO BOHOL (BY FERRY/FASTCRAFT)

We took this route since we were coming from Carcar, South Cebu.  We took a large ferry that can carry car or vehicles.

STEP 1: If you are coming from South Cebu like Oslob , Moalboal , Osmena Peak , etc., you can ride a ferry at Argao Port to Tagbilaran, Bohol.   Fare is around PHP 200/USD 4(EURO 3.31/SGD 5.31/MYR 16.40) for adults, PHP 143/USD 3(EURO 2.37/SGD 4/MYR 12) for seniors and PHP 100/USD 2 /EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 8) for kids.

*Be careful with your stuff, I lost my wallet at Argao Port (I don’t how it happened).

STEP 2:  At Tagbilaran Port, hire a tricycle to Dao Bus Terminal.

STEP 3: Ride a van PHP 120/USD 2.35 (EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 10) or bus ( PHP 100/USD 2 /EURO 2/SGD 3/MYR 8) to Anda, Bohol. Transit time is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours.

STEP 4: At Anda town center, you can charter a tricycle or habal-habal to take you to Cabagnow Cave Pool.

STEP 5: Call or text the care taker of Cabagnow Pool – Kuya Charlie at mobile # 0912 – 414 5098.

*Tipping kuya Charlie is highly encouraged as he will assist you while you are inside the cave pool.

ANDA BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS

Quinale beach.

A top tourist attraction in Anda is Quinale Beach, dubbed as one of the best beaches in Bohol.  And during our visit, although the weather did not cooperate, it still exudes with beauty. What sets it apart from other beaches in the Philippines is its white sand, it’s so fine that it feels like you are stepping on a powdered milk.  Plus, Quinale Beach has a sprawling palm-fringed sand offering tourists a lot of space for playing volleyball and frisbee. It’s also a good spot for picnic because its shore is dotted with charming open huts, an Instagram-worthy spot!  Alternatively, you can set up tables (rental is PHP 75) and chairs (PHP 5 for 2 chairs) and lounge by the beach. The seafront is also cleaned and groomed every morning, and a life guard is assigned here to ensure the safety of the tourists.   There are also free facilities in Quinale Beach like open showers, changing room and toilet.  And although its more laidback compared to the beaches in Panglao, you can still find bars and restaurants within walking distance..

TALISAY BEACH

At first sight, you might find Talisay Beach unclean.  But if you take a closer look, the dirt are just seagrasses and leaves of trees and coconuts bordering its shore. This public beach is where local fishermen park their boats.  So you can see a lot of them hanging out by the beach.  I suggest visiting early in the morning so you can witness the fishermen unload their fresh catch from the boat. There’s no entrance fee in Talisay Beach in Anda, Bohol, but the locals here have set up a donation box.  Also, if you touch and take a closer look at the sand, it’s finer than the sand in Quinale Beach.  Talisay Beach just needs some grooming and cleaning, and it sure will attract more tourists.  Just let the fishermen hang out there, as it’s part of the charm of Talisay Beach, and it’s what sets it apart from other beaches of Bohol that are already spoiled by commercialism.  Personally, I like Talisay Beach to stay this way – rugged and utterly escapist beach.

CABAGNOW CAVE POOL

If you are visiting Talisay Beach, it’s pretty close to Cabagnow Cave Pool , so make time for this enchanted place. Anda Bohol is reportedly made up mostly of limestones, so over the years, due to geological activities, coupled with heavy rains and harsh weather, cave pools like Cabagnow were formed.  This was the highlight of our trip to Anda.  We really enjoyed swimming in its not-so-shallow, beguiling dark blue water.  The water is about 12 feet, I can even see the sandy bottom.  If you can’t swim, make sure you rent a ring buoy.  The caretaker is also very accommodating and friendly, he will assist you in going down the cave pool through a metal ladder.

Other tourist attractions in anda bohol, cateres cave.

Cateres Cave Pool is within the area of Cabagnow Cave Pool in Anda, Bohol.  But it is smaller and shallower.  But you can still take a quick dip here.

COMBENTO CAVE POOL

Another popular cave pool in Anda, Bohol is Combento Cave Pool with 2 cave pools.  Entrance fee is PHP 20.
