OUR REVIEWS

As a photographer, I recently visited Memphis and was honored to be on the Heritage Tour. The tour guide brilliantly depicted the knowledge and strength of rich history and the led us down a journey into our ancestors past. We were teary eyed and moved with deep emotion, learning what many in the South went through so that we could have the privileges we benefit from today. This tour is a must for all those who visit Memphis.
I absolutely loved it. -Master Focus Media

I can’t believe how interesting he was the entire time! He answered questions and took the time to explain everything in such an interesting way! If you are going to Memphis, take this tour! It was truly awesome!

Our group booked Heritage Tours as a part of our retreat weekend in Memphis. This review is based on a group experience. Overall based on our experience, I DO NOT RECOMMEND at all. The two star review is based on our tour guide's engagement. Pros : Flexible - We originally booked for 15 however 3 were unable to attend. I notified the company and our invoice was adjusted without an issue. Oscar (tour guide) - He was engaging, funny, and a gifted storyteller! FIVE STARS. I asked about a new display of Suffragists in Memphis. Heritage Tours agreed to add that as a stop to our itinerary. Unfortunately this was not communicated to our tour guide so there was no stop or drive by. He was not sure where it was even located! The bus was clean. Not sure if sanitized we had our own wipes to wipe things down. There were 12 of us. Cons - Lackluster communication - I first contacted Heritage Tours via email June 15, 2022 to learn more about the tour. There was no response. I finally reached someone by phone on 7/22, and was given a short description of the tour that would have approximately 30 sites, some drive by, some stops, and two tours. I followed up with an email on 7/22 requesting a full list so I could plan photo opportunities for the group. Once again no response. A follow up email was sent on June 30th, there was no response to that email. Called again and got a few more details but my original questions were not answered. I finally got a response a few days before the trip. The tour guide and bus operator did not seem to know each other which caused confusion on where to go and when. I also don't think Oscar was provided with a full list of where we were supposed to go. Additionally while the bus had air conditioning it was NOT sufficient for 100+ degree heat. We were hot. Failure to fulfill agreed upon stops - Per the email exchange these were the expected stops and tours : Tour inside - No photos inside Slave Haven Museum - This tour stop was abysmal and the staff were rude and dismissive. Guests are expected to look at pictures on the wall and not move through the area while listening to a pre-recorded spiel describing the pictures with minimal interaction from the staff to keep us engaged. When asked if we could skip the remaining portion of the recording and look at the other rooms because the group was tuning out, the manager(I am assuming) was dismissive and told us we would do the tour the way it was set up. There was little information about the Burkle family, the machines and buildings outside of the museum were not explained or addressed. The cellar for the Underground railroad was the highlight of the tour and that was all of 8 minutes. The kitchen setup had great items but was not included in the tour. There are no pictures and I can only imagine if there were actual pictures online people would skip the tour all together. Bathrooms were FILTHY. W. C. Handy Museum A quick and fun way to kick off the tour. Learned a good bit about WC Handy and his story. National Civil Rights Museum - Final stop on the tour for us. I AM A MAN PLAZA - Great spot and sculpture. Ida B. Wells Plaza - Did not stop and get out, just drove by with a side view. Tour guide decided not to stop because of the intense heat. This was not discussed beforehand. We were okay with it however we would have liked a heads up. Dr. Martin Luther King Reflection Park - did not stop and get out but the park did look closed. Clayborn Temple - closed to the public so this was a drive by more than a stop. Mason Temple - Memphis Pyramid - Did not stop, drove by. Beale Street Historic District - Did not stop or walk down Beale street. Did drive by as the Handy museum was very close by. So our expectations were not met with stops. We were not able to capture the images or see things like we thought. Areas for improvement: Payment - Payment for groups is mailed in. There is no electronic option. This costs the group more money in purchasing money orders and postage with tracking. Because of the time, I was able to drop off our cashier's check. This an area for improvement more than a con Slaven Haven tour - Actively conduct the tour, do not just set a recording and tell people to stare at walls until told to turn to another wall. I understand the recording was done due to COVID however we can talk through masks! Repair the broken frames and outdated signs. Invest in a laser printer for the pictures obviously printed from online.

Where do I begin. When you hear anyone recommend Heritage tours DON'T DO It! I signed up for a tour in March of 2019, preparing for my up and coming trip to Memphis, wanting to see the sights. After several phone calls and attempts to find out the location of the bus that was supposed to arrive at 1:30, the bus did show up at 2:20 and parked in the lot of the Holiday In Express hotel. Not only was it almost an entire hour behind schedule. The bus never made it to the parking lot of the Crown Plaza Memphis East. Myself and others made the decision to request a refund, due to time constraints, the buses late arrival and the company stating that the driver would determine what we'd have time to see due to the drivers late arrival, arriving at 2:20 and sitting in another lot looking at us. We began to call the company; one of the group members called to request a refund. As the rest of us followed suit they no longer answered the phones the calls went straight to voicemail. I preceded to email the company for a full refund. I did receive a full refund upon my return home, however in my opinion I would not recommend this company.

Photo of Karen T.

Unprofessional driver who held us hostage on a hot bus for 20 minutes while he waited for his Mama(the Owner) to come out of a building. We asked several times to be taken back to our home and he would not move until she came to the bus. We had elderly people, a pregnant person, and children on the bus. We were starting to feel sick. It was so bad that we almost called 911. DON'T DO IT. The "tour guides" we're not as knowledgeable as they should have been. They were reading from a binder or said several times "I can't remember" as they referenced a point in Memphis' history. It was mostly off the cuff and pathetic.

Scottie Scheffler wins RBC Heritage, fourth in 5 PGA Tour events

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA - APRIL 21: Scottie Scheffler looks to hit a tee shot on the 10th hole during the final round of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links on April 21, 2024 in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. (Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)

Scottie Scheffler’s season of excellence continued Sunday at the RBC Heritage. He finished it up on Monday with a three-stroke victory, claiming the event’s signature tartan jacket to go with his green jacket.

He’s the first player to win four starts in a five-star stretch since Tiger Woods in 2007-08. He’s the first person since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to follow up a Masters win with a win the following week (Langer also won at Harbour Town). Gary Player in 1978 and Jimmy Demaret in 1950 also accomplished the feat.

Scheffler has also won the Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational during this stretch. In the Houston Open, he finished in a tie for second, and missed a putt to force a playoff. Scheffler now has 10 career wins, all since February 2022.

“I’m just maturing as a person. On the course mentally the last month or so is as good mentally as I’ve been in a long time, and I think that’s why I’m seeing some of the results,” Scheffler told Golf Channel after the win.

Play was called due to darkness Sunday at the event at Harbour Town Links in Hilton Head, S.C., with Scheffler five strokes ahead and three holes to play. There was a 2 1/2 hour weather delay from 4:28 p.m. until 7 p.m. that forced the PGA Tour into a Monday finish.

When he returned Scheffler finished the final three holes in 45 minutes. His bogey on 18 was his first bogey of the week. Sahith Theegala finished second at 16-under, with Wyndham Clark and Patrick Cantlay tied for third at 15-under. Justin Thomas was among the group tied for fifth, a good week for the embattled star.

Scheffler punctuated Sunday with a head-shaking 15th hole — he had an exceedingly rare mishit with his second shot, going just left into the water. As he was taking the drop, CBS attempted to foreshadow what was coming by flashing a graphic that it had been 65 holes since Scheffler had a double bogey. The streak continued. He hit his approach shot with spin, landed on the slope and rolled it to 11 feet. The horn sounded to end play but Scheffler was allowed to finish the hole — he drained the putt, pumped his fist like he had just won the tournament and exited to a waiting golf cart.

Scheffler did not show up at Hilton Head until Wednesday after winning his second Masters, played nine holes in the pro-am and said he would see the rest of the course during his first round on Thursday. It was daring a signature event field to beat him, but instead, he shot a first-round 69, followed that up with a 65 on Friday and a 63 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead into Sunday.

“I played some really good golf in the middle of the tournament. It’s nice to be done,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler shot a final round 68. He is not in the field for this week’s Zurich Classic in New Orleans. It’s not clear yet if he’ll play before the PGA Championship from May 16-19 as he and his wife Meredith await the birth of their first child.
