Masai Mara Camping Safari
Our guide was great and interacted well with the group. He had lots of animal knowledge and found us some great animals. Our transport was a van but it made it there and back and wasn't too bad for game viewing. Plenty of space for the 6 of us. Accommodation is a basic tent with bed and mossie net but was all we really needed. Meals were good and there was always plenty. While the trip is advertised as 4 days, it's only 3. I would have enjoyed having an extra day to spend in the Mara.
3 Days, 2 Nights Masai Mara Group Joining Safari From Nairobi with Complimentary Airport Pickup.
Great tour. Full day game drive and masai Village tour. We were to do an evening game drive also but that was cancelled due to issues beyond anyone's control. I thought the one full day drive was enough anyway. Did a short little game drive on last day prior to leaving. Included all meals, transport, accommodation and guide. Excellent value for money. Food was really good. Had a lovely permanent tent with ensuite for accommodation. Couldn't fault anything. Driver got us back to Nairobi by 3.00pm as we had a tight schedule for an air flight. Driver and company arranged a swap to airport transport. No waiting, all went super smooth.
- Flying Safari
3 Days Masai Mara flying Safari - Mombasa
Our 3-day flight safari with Mombasa Air Safari was organized by Brian Kazungu. Everything went well. The transfer from the hotel to the airport, the domestic flights and the Governeurs Camp were a complete success! The tents of the camp are located directly on the river Mara. If you step out of the tent, you can admire hippos and crocodiles in the river. The camp has no fencing, so some warthogs ran through the tents. But occasionally hippos should be on the road at night. But no fear! There are always rangers with guns near the tents. Lunch at the camp is served outdoors. The service and the quality of the food is great! From the table you can see the Masai Mara and of course the animals! Giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs and zebras could be seen relatively close. Dinner is served by candlelight in an open tent. A very nice atmosphere! Coffee and cookies are served at the tent in the morning. Then it goes on morning game drive. We did not have the right breakfast at the camp, but in the wild on the hood of our Jeep. This is not only very adventurous, but also saves a lot of time, so that our Frühpirsch lasted 5 hours in a row! There are animals in huge herds! How many lions we saw, then we did not count! Unfortunately we have not seen a rhino, but 2 leopards. It was just unforgettable hours in the Masai Mara! We can only recommend this tour! Book with Bryan and you will spend wonderful days!

Our driver was zack. He was great, very patient and very understanding. He reached us a lot about the animals and the culture of masai people. He was always there, when we needed him. I definitely recommend zack. Albert was also the main reason the safari happened, he helped us very much.

We only had 3 days to do a safari in Nairobi after our conference meeting, we booked the 3 days Masai Mara safari with jeep safaris and tours and everything was great. Four Day Maasai Mara Wildebeest Migration Safari 2024/2025
An enthralling and delightful tour. A perfect experience that gives one a chance to connect with wildlife, create beautiful memories, and have fun together with family and friends. Watching herds of up to a million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of gazelles and elands makes it satisfying and leaves one fascinated.
Masai Mara Tour Reviews
Overall the tour was good. There was a lot of waiting and switching cars on the first day for myself and others on the tour and was a bit chaotic. Otherwise, we did see plenty of animals and accomodation and food was good.

4-Day Masai Mara Safari Tours
The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya never disappoints. Whether you’re going on your first African safari or you’re a repeat visitor, you can’t go wrong; the reserve is hard to beat when it comes to wildlife viewing. The wide-open plains are home to big herds of grazers, and when you look closer, you’ll find lots of predators too. Big cats steal the show, but hyenas and jackals are never far off either. Time your trip right and you might be able to witness the wildebeest migration, one of the biggest wildlife spectacles in Africa. Alternatively, visit in the Emerald season (also known as the Wet season) when the scenery is breathtaking and the crowds minimal.

6 Questions About 4-Day Masai Mara Safaris
Answered by
Ariadne van zandbergen.
Is 4 days a good amount of time for a trip in the Masai Mara?
“When going to the Masai Mara, you should ideally devote at least 4 days to your trip. If really pressed for time, you can book a 2- or 3-day trip, but 4 days is definitely more comfortable and gives you time to settle into the bush. On a 4-day trip you can break up the drive to or from the Masai Mara with an overnight stay in Lake Nakuru National Park or Lake Naivasha, with the option to visit nearby Hell’s Gate National Park. Alternatively you can spend all 3 nights in the Masai Mara. With 2 full days in the reserve, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore this iconic safari destination. You’ll be able to experience a full-day dusk-to-dawn game drive that will include lunch at one of the picnic spots. Morning and evening game drives are rewarding as well, but on a full day you can get further into the reserve, away from the more-crowded areas. Overall 4 days is a good amount of time for a safari in the Masai Mara if it is part of a larger Kenya tour, but if not, I would recommend allocating a few more days to your safari if at all possible.”
Is it better to fly or go overland to the park?
“On a 4-day safari, flying and driving to the Masai Mara are both viable options. The drive takes about five to six hours. The last 100km/62mi of the road is notoriously bad, so expect to bounce around a fair amount. However, on a 4-day tour you can easily break up the drive with a stopover. Lake Nakuru NP is the most popular option. This Rift Valley lake teems with birdlife, and this is the best place in Kenya to see rhinos, which are very difficult to spot in the Masai Mara. Another great option is to spend a night at Hell’s Gate NP. The dramatic scenery is the main attraction and, as there are few dangerous animals, cycling and hiking are permitted in the park. Even without visiting other parks en route, if you’re up for it, the drive is quite an adventure. There will be a photo stop at the Rift Valley, and just seeing the usual hustle and bustle of African life as you drive through the countryside adds to making the journey special in its own right. If you choose to fly, the flight on a small aircraft will take about one hour, saving you plenty of travel time and allowing you to arrive refreshed. As you fly into the reserve, you’ll have an unforgettable bird’s-eye view of the landscape and wildlife. Fly-in safaris usually include top-end accommodation and all your activities. Last but not least is the issue of budget. Fly-in safaris are very special, but they do come with a higher price tag than road safaris.”
What accommodation can I expect on a 4-day Masai Mara safari?
“You’ll find just about every type of accommodation you can think of in the Masai Mara. If you’re on a budget, camping is a good option. You don’t need to rough it too much. Specialized operators put together a very comfortable camping experience. The crew will look after you well and you’ll be amazed at the food they manage to whip up in a basic campsite. Camping in the bush is an adventure and it is perhaps the best way to fully appreciate your natural surroundings. While campsites are often in great locations inside the reserve, budget lodges are mostly located outside the reserve boundaries. They are usually very comfortable and offer a good base for game drives. Most mid-range and luxury accommodation options are located inside the reserve. Some very luxurious accommodation is rustic and offers very few mod cons. The trend leans towards a minimal carbon footprint with ecofriendly building materials and constructions that can be dismantled without leaving any traces. Styles vary but chalets and old-school tented camps are popular options for the smaller, more intimate camps. The level of luxury is more in the details; the exclusivity, service, food and guiding. In contrast with these boutique lodges are the bigger hotels. While they might lack character, they offer a more conventional level of luxury in regular rooms that have air-conditioning and, in some cases, even TV.”
Which animals am I likely to see?
“The Masai Mara is one of the top wildlife-viewing destinations in Africa. The place overflows with animals and the open savannah makes spotting them quite easy. Most impressive are the big cats. No other reserve on this scale offers such easy sightings of lions and cheetahs. Although notoriously shy, leopards are regularly spotted too. You’ll see plenty of elephants, buffalo, giraffes and a big variety of antelope. Small herds of zebras, wildebeest and gazelles are always present, but around late September to October up to 10 million hooves cross the reserve in search of greener pastures. Note, though, that the exact timing of the wildebeest migration is unpredictable. The only safari heavyweight you might struggle to see on a 4-day Masai Mara safari is the rhino. If you visit Lake Nakuru NP en route you’ll get to see white and possibly black rhino there. But if not, your best bet is to visit the Mara Triangle, the most reliable area in the reserve to see them – although even there, sightings are sporadic.”
How much does a 4-day safari in the Masai Mara cost?
“There are several variables that determine the overall price of safari packages to the Masai Mara. Prices of 4-day budget tours in the Masai Mara mostly range between US$420 to US$900 per person. Mid-range tours mostly range between US$850 to US$1,500 per person, while luxury tours start at about US$1,000 per person. You can use the filters on SafariBookings to narrow down your preferences and find tours that meet your requirements. The biggest factor determining the price of a safari is the level of accommodation. This will ultimately categorize tours as being budget, mid-range or luxury. Shared tours are usually cheaper than private tours. This is especially the case for single travelers. On a 4-day trip you might want to consider a fly-in safari, but these are considerably more expensive than road safaris. Check out the seasons too; low-season prices can be favorable and while you’ll probably get some rain at this time, it’s when the scenery is at its best. Always request a few quotes before making a final decision.”
How do I avoid the crowds in the park?
“You might have heard that the Masai Mara can get very busy. This is true, but there are ways to avoid the crowds. Kenya has pioneered the African safari as we know it today, and the Masai Mara is the cornerstone of that industry. It is no surprise then that trips to this reserve are very popular. The low-season months of April to May and November to December see fewer visitors than the rest of the year. While this isn’t the best time for wildlife viewing, there are always animals around. April and May are the wettest months, but you’ll be rewarded with spectacular scenery and an abundance of baby animals. Even during the high season, some areas of the Mara are busier than others, but for a really exclusive safari experience you can book into one of the private conservancies bordering the Masai Mara.”

Situated in southwestern Kenya near the Tanzanian border, Masai Mara is adjacent to Serengeti National Park, with Masai villages dotting the surrounding area.
Two rivers, the Mara and the Talek, traverse the park, enhancing the scenic beauty of its grassy plains and rolling hills. The unique landscape, marked by circles of trees, savannas, and intriguing cloud shadows, provides a captivating view during a Masai Mara tour.

The grasslands host various birds, such as Kori bustards and white storks, while swamplands offer sightings of different heron species.

The Wildebeest Migration
The great migration, also known as the wildebeest migration, is a spectacular wildlife event, considered unparalleled in its grandeur. This never-seen-before phenomenon is the most celebrated experience, exclusively witnessed during Masai Mara tour packages.
This incredible journey involves thousands of wildebeests, accompanied by other hoofed animals such as gazelles and zebras. Originating from Tanzania’s Serengeti, the migration concludes in the Mara towards the end of the year, spanning across two countries.
Driven by the search for food and water, the wildebeests undertake this annual migration, facing various dangers along the way. Predators, including lions, leopards, and cheetahs, lurk from both parks, resulting in dramatic chases and actions.
A significant highlight includes river crossings, particularly near the Mara River, where migratory animals attempt to traverse its waters. This perilous journey becomes a real-life spectacle during a Masai Mara tour, featuring live river crossings.
Beyond its grandeur, the migration offers an emotional experience, showcasing the survival of the fittest. For those seeking to witness this awe-inspiring event, booking Masai Mara tour packages during the migration season is the key to unlocking this remarkable natural phenomenon.
The migration unfolds in both Serengeti and the Mara. However, for the ultimate experience, Kenya Masai Mara stands as the prime location. Travelers enjoy enhanced chances of witnessing this extraordinary event here, thanks to better accessibility compared to Serengeti and a more concentrated route. Plan your Masai Mara tour around this captivating migration.
Timeline of the Migration
There is no fixed schedule for the migration. It occurs according to the climate. The availability of pasture also affects it. One cannot predict the exact migration days. Travelers must always plan an extended Masai Mara tour.
A general timetable is available for the migration. It offers a rough timeline of the events. It takes place according to months.
January to March
In January, the herds start moving. They are joined by other plain animals. Calving season begins in February. One can see the birth of around 8000 wildebeests in a day.
The adults train the younger calves for the journey. This season oversees dramatic killings. Hyenas and wild dogs often follow the herds. One can spot hungry lions leopards and cheetahs.
Rain starts pouring in March. The animals stop grazing across Serengeti. They start heading towards the west.
April to May
Long rains take place in April and May. These months face heaving flooding. This makes it harder to spot herds. The herds reach central Serengeti by the end of May.
June to Mid July
The animals are seen in the Seronera valley. They move into the western corridor. The first river crossing takes place. The animals have to cross the Grumeti River. Those who make it alive across the Serengeti border. They enter the Maasai Mara.
Late July to October
The animals have to cross another deadly river. This time it is the Mara River. It has dangerous Nile Crocodiles.
November to December
These months observe short rains. The Mara is green and luscious. It transforms into a beautiful landscape. The herds disperse into shorter groups. They enjoy ample grazing.
Once the mara grass diminishes, they return to Serengeti. They begin the calving season. The annual migration starts all over again.
When to see the Migration?
Kenya’s seasons are dynamic. There is no fixed timeline for the migration. One can plan the trip according to the animals’ movements. The peak months are from June to October. The herds enter the Mara during these months. The Mara River crossing can also be witnessed.
Private Conservancies
The Mara conservancies aim to protect the park. Within each conservancy lies exclusive accommodation. They offer private access to safaris. Here a range of activities can be enjoyed.
These include night game drives. It also allows off-road game drives. The conservancies restrict the number of guests. This allows for more room. Not many tourist crowds are spotted either.
All of this contributes to a luxury African safari. Less crowd means one can enjoy a safari smoothly. The conservancies have stunning scenery. Lodges and tented camps are built strategically.
There are many private conservancies in the park. These include the famous Mara Naboisho. It is the second-largest conservancy in the Mara. Olare Motoragi is also popular. One can also stay in Ol Kinyei and Mara Triangle.

How to Reach the Masai Mara National Reserve
Undoubtedly Masai Mara offers some of the best safari experiences the world over. Not only is it home to the Big Five (elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, lions, and leopards) but also different kinds of grazers, browsers, and birds.
July through to September are favourite months since the weather is temperate, wildlife can be spotted easily and you can also enjoy the great wildebeest migration.
There are two ways of reaching the Masai Mara from the airport—by flight or road.
Flying Safaris
A flying safari takes about an hour from Kenya’s Capital City to Masai Mara. It’s time-saving, and preferable for camps and lodges located in the farthest regions of the Masai Mara.
On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be received by one of our team and driven to the smaller Wilson Airport for the second flight.
There are several airstrips within the Masai Mara and you will be flown to the one closest to your accommodation facility. Our tour guide and safari vehicle will be waiting at the airstrip to drive you to the camp.
Road Safari Tours
A road safari is cheaper and potentially more rewarding as you get to see more of the country and its people and even enjoy the refreshing views of the Great Rift Valley. Once we pick you up from JKIA, you will travel in our luxury land cruiser to the Masai Mara .
The trip may take up to six hours (with at least two stops) before reaching one of the Masai Mara Game Reserve gates. From there we will proceed to your camp.
9 Best Selling Masai Mara Tour Packages
Now let’s look at our top 9 best Masai Mara tour packages.

If you’re looking for exclusive and unique experiences designed specifically for your needs, we’ve got you covered. Our team will listen to your needs and expectations before tailoring a befitting safari experience. Our most popular customized packages include:
Tour Packages to Spot the Big 5
Ah, the Big 5—lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes. These animals earned this title from big game hunters of the 19th Century who considered them Africa’s most dangerous animals to hunt. Especially on foot.
Today, tourists from all over the world flock to the Masai Mara and the other parks in Kenya to see these majestic creatures. Our packages focus on game drives to ensure you can view the living and thriving in the wild.
The Wildebeest Migration Package
Every year, the Masai Mara-Serengeti ecosystem finds itself at the center of one of the greatest shows on the planet.
Jul-Sept are the best times to come into the country to view a million plus wildebeests and the other grazers make the all treacherous journey across countries.
With hungry predators trailing them, an unforgiving river ahead, and starving crocs lurking in the waters, these creatures still push forward. Here, some are swept away by raging waters, others become dinner, but more survive and live to fight another day.
This spectacular event attracts a lot of tourists meaning you’ll need to book well in advance to secure accommodation.
Honeymoon Packages
Adventurous honeymoons are made in Africa. If you’re looking to combine your love for adventure and romance, we have the perfect honeymoon package.
Through our honeymoon package, you will get up close to wildlife and enjoy a pampered stay at the lodge/camp.
Depending on the accommodation facility, you can also enjoy a couples’ massage, private candlelit bush dinners, as well as romantic outdoor baths. Some go as far as leaving cute surprises in your room.
Essential Information To Visit Masai Mara
If you have already made the decision to visit the Masai Mara , it’s important to do some planning for a smooth stay.
Here are some essential guidelines:
Cover the Basics
Choose your travel dates. This is particularly important since some months are harder to secure a booking than others.
If you’re coming down for the wildebeest migration, you may need to book your travel dates months in advance.
Determine the number of people who will be coming and specify the room you prefer—single, double, family room, honeymoon suite, etc.
What kind of transportation do you prefer once you arrive? Will it be a flight or a road trip? If you choose the latter, would like to travel on a luxury land cruiser or shared tour van?
Choose a Tour Operator
Go for a reputable and knowledgeable tour operator to ensure you get value for your money. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or clarifications from the operator before appointing.
Determine Your Level of Luxury
Within the Masai Mara are hotels that cater to different budgets. You’ll find adventure budget camps, mid-range lodges and camps, and uber-luxurious accommodations. Determine how far your budget can extend and find the hotel that fits it.
Throw in Optional Activities
Other than game drives, guided walks, and cultural visits, you can add some more activities to enhance your safari experience. These optional activities come at an extra charge.
They include hot air balloon safaris, spa treatments, bush meals, and short visits to other interesting places like the Giraffe Centre or the Nairobi Safari Walk.
Book Your Safari
Having determined the above information, your tour operator will share a quotation based off your itinerary. If you’re happy with the quote, you can proceed to book your safari and deposit payments as the tour operator advises.
From here, you’ll just need to show up and leave the rest to us. Once again, we invite you to connect with our team and plan a memorable African safari.
Best Time to Visit Masai Mara
Thanks to the abundant resident wildlife, the Masai Mara is an all-year-around tour destination. The best time to visit the Mara depends on the activities you’d love to undertake.
If you want to witness the great annual migration then schedule your visit between July-Oct. If you’re trying to avoid crowds and love lush picturesque scenery, then the wetter months of April and May are more appealing.
What Month Is Best for Hot Air Balloon Rides On Masai Mara Tours?
September through to April are the most ideal months for balloon safaris.
Is There a Risk of Malaria on Safari?
Thanks to the high elevation of the Masai Mara, the risk of Malaria is low but it exists. Lodges/camps in the Mara fit their beds with mosquito nets to keep pesky insects out. We recommend carrying mosquito repellant and wearing long-sleeved clothing and pants in the evenings to minimize insect bites.
Is There an Airport in Masai Mara?
There is no airport in Masai Mara but there are multiple airstrips scattered within the Mara to make transportation from Nairobi to your camp convenient.
How Do You Get To Masai Mara From India?
You have multiple options to reach the Mara from India including airplanes and ships. Flying is a better option and there are various airlines that facilitate travel such as Kenya Airways, Air India, RwandaAir, as well as IndiGo.
From the Jomo Kenyatta Airport, traveling to the Mara can happen by road or air to an airstrip closest to your chosen accommodation.
Can We Stay Inside Masai Mara?
We recommend a minimum of 3 days stay. The park is extensive with plenty to see, the more time you have, the more you will enjoy and appreciate the wilderness in front of you.
Is 2 Days Enough for Masai Mara?
As an experienced tour operator we we recommend 3 days at the Mara. Two days are too few but if that’s all you have then we can try and work something out.
How Much Is a Trip to Masai Mara Cost?
The price is based off the time of visit, duration, people accompanying you, the activities you want to undertake, plus accommodation options. Connect with us to find a package that best fits your budget and book it.
Can I Enjoy a Meal in the Middle of the National Park
Yes, you can. When you’re going out on a full-day game drive, your guide will identify a suitable place for you to enjoy a packed lunch. Further, bush dining and sundowners are available at an extra charge.
Those who go on balloon safaris typically enjoy a bush breakfast after the ride. Bush dining and sundowners are
How Long Does It Take From Nairobi to Masai Mara?
It takes approximately 45 minutes to travel to the Mara by air. If you opt to travel by road, then it may take 6-7 hours to arrive at the gates of the Masai Mara. From there, you will spend some additional time on the road to reach the camp/lodge.

The Masai Mara National Park is one of the world’s greatest safari destinations, sharing unfenced borders with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania , and encompassing endless rolling plains, breathtaking scenery, and an abundance of wildlife. The Mara offers unrivalled views of the world’s greatest migration - a wildlife spectacle of over 1.5 million wildebeest moving in a circular direction between Kenya and Tanzania in search of grasslands that have sprouted after the rain. Crossing the Mara River is part of their journey and is a sight to behold as distressed herds attempt to get across the crocodile-infested waters. Visitors also have the rare opportunity of interacting with the Maasai people, learning about their century-old traditions and bush survival skills.
The Masai Mara is phenomenal all year round and offers exciting game drives, bush walks, hot air balloon safaris, and a selection of luxury and tented accommodations.
Each year the Masai Mara National Reserve is visited by thousands of tourists who come here to watch the exceptional population of game and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest. The “Great Migration” takes place every year from July to October when millions of wildebeest and zebra migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Anja is awesome!
Anja is awesome!! She went above and beyond for me as I had several changes until I locked in my bucket list itinerary and then my friend cancelled. She wasn't mad and just went about cancelling her portion which saved me money in the long run. Anja is a true professional regardless and I have been dealing with her since Sept 2023. Cannot wait until my trip in Sept 2024.

Shann was beyond amazing
Shann was beyond amazing. Listened to our needs, communicated super-efficiently and gave really honest excellent advice. She was so patient, kind and professional. The time difference across the globe made no difference. I am so excited for the itinerary she has put together. I usually cobble my own itinerary together for our holidays and it’s so time consuming and hard work. This was a piece of cake! Thank you Shann.
Great planning and service
Great planning and service, and everything worked like clockwork. We booked an Inyari Lodge safari with air with Safari.com. it wasn't clear if there will be 2 or three of us, so with Candis' help we booked a family chalet for 2 and added the third later when it was confirmed he can come. Candis put us on flights that maximized our game drive time (unlike some of the other guests) so we got all 6 drives in 3 nights. The lodge was great. Especially the game drives. We saw more than we hoped for. Additionally, Safari.com's insurance was very competitive. Highly recommended.

Fantastic travel agent for African safari family trip!
Wow! Shann was and is fantastic! She figured out a way to make our entire trip work. We are going on a 2 week trip to South Africa and Botswana. She really helped tie it all together as a wonderful, cohesive trip. She is super nice and super smart and very knowledgeable. She is also flexible and thoughtful, etc., etc. When the chips were down (and we literally were considering pulling the plug on the whole trip), she found a way to make the entire itinerary work and got us excited about our wonderful adventure! Highly recommend!

Kenya tour packages from Kolkata
It is said, happy people travel more often. The reverse is also true. People who travel more often are happier. And if you want to be on top of the happiness quotient, your bucket list must include Kenya as a defining destination.
The jewel of East Africa, Kenya boasts of incredible wildlife, stunning landscapes and diverse cultures. So whatever you seek – adventure, relaxation, cultural experiences – Kenya calls. And how. We have some premium Kenya tour packages from Kolkata for you. But more about that later. First, let’s go explore this magical land of white mountains and gorgeous grasslands.
First, the wildlife. If you talk about game reserves, Kenya is probably numero uno. Masai Mara National Reserve, Amboseli National Park and Tsavo National Park are globally renowned. But they are one among many. These parks are home to Africa’s Big Five – lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and African buffaloes, not to mention crocodiles, zebras, deer, giraffes and wildebeests. Imagine yourself driving through miles and miles of grasslands, alongside lakes and rain-fed rivers, around bushlands and acacia dry forests, amidst glorious sunrises and mellow orange sunsets. Add to it the thrill of watching these glorious animals up close in their natural habitat. Legends are made of these. So are indelible travel experiences.
The word Kenya is derived from `Kirinyaga’ or `Keranyaga’. The Kikuyu people who lived around present-day Mount Kenya referred to the place by this name, meaning ‘ mountain of whiteness ‘ because of its snow-capped peak. That basically implies once you are done with the game parks, you also have some amazing mountains to visit.
Then there are absolute deserts like Chalbi Desert and Nyiri Desert , the Great Rift Valley and the Indian Ocean stretching from Lamu to Mombasa. Well, you will be spoilt for choice. If you like to top it up with an element of surprise, a visit to Lake Nakuru National Park is a must. Where else will you find thousands of flamingos in attendance, flocking to the lake to feed on its algae. Instagram was invented for them.
It is a fact that elephants can run but they cannot jump. Their human neighbours who live in close proximity, the famed Maasai tribe can do both and do that very well. Experience their jumping dance to find out. Though the Maasai are probably the best known amongst Kenyan tribes, there are several others that add to the Kenyan kaleidoscope. Despite there being 13 ethnic groups and 27 smaller groups, the majority of Kenyans belong to ‘Bantu’ tribes such as the Kikuyu, Luhya and Kamba. There are also the ‘Nilotic’ tribes like the Luo, Kalenjin, Maasai and Turkana. Their unique customs and traditions hold a mystic charm all their own.

Best time to visit Kenya
As is famously said, any time is a good time for a visit but if you are planning to catch the wildlife en masse , no better time than the dry season, which runs from June to October . The weather is pleasant and the wildlife is easier to spot, as they gather around watering holes. The vegetation is also sparse, providing better visibility.
Things to do in Kenya
There is wildlife and a wild life, if you get the drift. And for that there are no ‘dry’ seasons. There is more and enough that a visitor can do in Kenya the year round. Here is a list of exciting things to do. We, at Flying Squirrel Holidays, have a few recommendations. A curated vacation, if you will. Season-specific - dry and wet. Take your pick.
Dry Season (June - October)
Safari in Masai Mara National Reserve: It is one of those lifetime things. The dry season is the best time to go on a safari in Masai Mara National Reserve. The wildlife is abundant. Visibility is high. Lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, buffaloes, crocodiles, zebras. And that list is almost endless… You can also witness the Great Wildebeest Migration that happens between July and October. Memorable is a mild descriptor.
Hot air balloon ride: One heck of a ride, it takes you over the Masai Mara plains for a bird's eye view of the wildlife and landscapes. You get to do this early in the morning. Just as well. So that you can cherish it for the rest of the day. And the rest of your life.
Beach holiday in Diani: Diani Beach is a beautiful stretch of white sand best experienced with your significant other. Relax. Indulge. Romance. The dry season offers warm and sunny weather ideal for swimming in the Indian Ocean, sunbathing, water sports and taking leisurely walks on the beach. Not to mention the breath-taking sunrises and sunsets!
Climb Mount Kenya: Mount Kenya is the second-highest mountain in Africa and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. The dry season beckons with dry trails easier to climb. An ideal combination of adventure and exploration.
Wet Season (November - May)
Explore Lake Nakuru National Park: The wet season is a great time to visit Lake Nakuru National Park, which is home to an abundance of birdlife including flamingos, pelicans, and cormorants. You can also spot animals likes buffalos, giraffes, and rhinos. Go ahead, create your own picture postcard!
Linger in Lamu: Pretty and picturesque. That is the best way to describe Lamu, a beautiful town on the Kenyan coast that is famous for its Swahili architecture, narrow alleys and traditional dhow boats. The wet season is a great time to visit as the town is less crowded, and the rains create a lush green landscape. This place is waiting to be discovered by Karan Johar. Or Mani Ratnam. Get there before they do.
Meet the Maasai: The Gods certainly aren’t crazy. For they made the Maasai. Popular myth and culture have spread the fame of this semi-nomadic, pastoral tribe of brave warriors far and wide. Not for nothing. Their ancient, primordial lifestyle, cabalistic rituals, high-jumping dance and ornate costumes have fuelled a library of books and countless films. Myth meets magic here.
Tame the Tana : The wet season is the best time to go white water rafting in the Tana River. The thrill of the rapids and the captivating beauty of the surroundings make for an unbeatable combination. The right place for your adrenaline rush.

Stay hydrated: The long flights and dry airplane air can lead to dehydration, so make sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after your flight.
Take precautions against malaria: Kenya is a malaria-endemic country, so it is important to take precautions against mosquito bites by wearing long-sleeved clothing, using insect repellent, and sleeping under a mosquito net.
Respect local customs and culture: Kenya is a diverse country with many different ethnic groups and cultures. Be respectful of local customs and traditions and ask for permission before taking photographs of people or their property.
By following these tips, you can have a safe and enjoyable journey from Kolkata to Kenya.

The 4 Best Things to Do During Tours in Masai Mara?
Masai Mara Packages from Mumbai takes you to one of the top wildlife destinations in Africa. But the reserve is not just about game drives, as you will find from this piece.
1. Morning, Afternoon Game Drives, and Full-Day Game Drives
The primary activity during a safari in Masai Mara safari is game drives. Our expert Masai guides will take you on game drives atop a custom-made safari land cruiser with an open roof for optimal game viewing.
They are knowledgeable about the savannah and the animals that call it home. And they are happy to share this knowledge with you. Wildlife lectures are always part of our safari .
Most game drives will start early in the morning, which is a great time to view animals as they go out for breakfast. Bring your camera along; this is the best time to witness a hunt.
Depending on the day’s program, your driver will return you to your camp for lunch and afternoon rest before embarking on an evening game drive. Ideally, morning and afternoon game drives with a return to the hotel are ideal for families traveling with kids below five years old.
Most people prefer a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch, allowing them to venture deep into the Mara. You do the game drives, and around 1:00 pm, the driver finds a nice place, possibly under a tree, and you have the picnic lunch there.
You then continue with your game drives till early evening.
2. Great Wildebeest Migration – July to October
If you are touring Masai Mara between July and October, without a doubt, the showstopper is the great wildebeest migration . Be on the front row as millions of wildebeest, zebras, impalas, and antelopes make the dangerous crossing from the Serengeti into the Masai Mara.
The drama unfolds as they try to escape from the sharp jaws of hungry crocodiles in the water below.
3. Balloon Safari – USD 475 Per Person
Another must-do activity that we recommend that you include in your Masai Mara tour package is a balloon safari . It is one thing to see the greatness of the Mara from land and quite another from the air.
