Even if the pandemic is still a reality for millions of people all over the world, and the whole globe is suffering its aftermath, the last two years have been so heavy, those first announcements, the lockdowns, and all the COVID-19 drama feels like it happened eons ago.
When The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the pandemic on the 11th of March 2020, Liverpool was sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 82 points, the standard Netflix subscription in Australia was $13.99, and Disney’s Onward was ruling the American box office.
Also back then, you couldn’t find a club, restaurant, or bar that didn’t play LP’s ‘Lost on You’. After more than a decade of being stuck in the gears of the ruthless label system , the Long Island-born musician was at last on the top of the world.
But up to that point, her solo career had been lackluster. LP’s albums never managed to take off the ground, and she spent the entirety of the aughts jumping from label to label.
“[Those were] years where I was basically banging around in the major label system and I wrote like in the area of 130-140 songs,” LP said in a 2019 interview with Tom Power. “They were pushing me in all different directions, I didn’t have a strong management at the time and I was a bit rudderless. “They were like, ‘oh let’s go in this rock direction, let’s go in this pop direction, let’s go in this folk direction’. It was frustrating at the time but also, you know, convoluted. I didn’t know where I was going, I was just following what they said because I didn’t know any better. So after three years, it bore no fruit, there was no actual record.”
While her career as a performer seemed stuck, she flourished as a songwriter for other artists. In 2007, The Backstreet Boys recorded her composition ‘Love Will Keep You Up All Night’ for their album Unbreakable , leading to collaborations with other performers like Heidi Montag and Erik Hassle. For Rihanna she wrote ‘Cheers (Drink To That)’, and in 2010 she co-wrote the song ‘Beautiful People’ for Christina Aguilera. LP also worked for other artists including Cher, Leona Lewis, and Céline Dion.
LP’s 2014 album Forever for Now managed to hit the Billboard 200 chart at 132, but that didn’t seem enough for the corporate heads at Warner, who aseptically decided to drop her. “I literally could tell the second they looked at me; they just didn’t get it. I could just see the vacancy in their eyes. They were like, ‘Yeah… um, that’s great. But we’re going to move on.’” She recalled the experience that almost ended her career to Forbes. “It was really at that moment I said to myself. ‘All right. Well, it might be time to hang it up.’”
Ironically, that was the inflection point where her career finally got traction. Now signed by boutique label Vagrant, —home of acts like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and PJ Harvey— she launched in 2016 Lost on You, an album that included critical hits like ‘Muddy Waters’ and ‘Other People’.
“Physically a cross between John Cooper Clarke and Patti Smith, vocally a blend of Gwen Stefani and Cyndi Lauper, Laura “LP” Pergolizzi alchemizes that patchwork into something not currently available elsewhere.” The Guardian wrote about her at the time.
But for Laura Pergolizzi, the best was yet to come. After a slow release, her second album with Vagrant/BMG titled Heart to Mouth —launched in December 2018— managed throughout 2019 to sneak into industry charts landing the number 2 position in Billboard’s US Heatseekers Albums, hitting a spot in the top 100 in ten countries and earning a Gold certification in Poland. That success sparked an interest in her back catalogue, prompting a handful of her previous songs to pop up on lists all over the world.
Today LP is recognized as one of the most unique performers in the universe of pop. She uses her distinctive high-pitched vibrato, capable of almost operatic explosions, to paint soundscapes that traverse from blues to sparkling foot-tapping club bangers. At times you can find in her music hints of The Rolling Stones, Jeff Buckley, or Roy Orbison, laying under a clean, luscious production that curiously enough, never feels cynical or manipulative. Even if some of her songs sound like expertly crafted hits, her music is always organic and personal. LP’s stylized vocal breaks and her thoughtful, intimate songwriting places her closer to an auteur like Carol King than a pop monster like Dua Lipa.
The multi-platinum artist now has more than 2 billion streams to her name, receiving on her YouTube channel upwards 2.4 million views per day. Her ubiquitous anthem, ‘Lost On You’ has been streamed over a billion times and has reached number one in 17 countries. Not too shabby for a musician that considered retiring just a few years ago.
“It’s a very difficult business, so you just gotta keep going. There’s no use in holding to regret and bitterness and all that stuff because it really just fucks you up in the end,” she told the Youtube channel FaceCulture in 2016.
Back in 2020, she was scheduled for a short Australian tour as part of her participation in the Byron Bay Bluesfest, but those plans were scrapped because of the pandemic . Fans will have their sweet revenge in 2023, as Bluesfest Touring has announced that LP will not only take part in the official Byron Bay Bluesfest but will have two extra shows in the country.
Music lovers will get to experience one of the dark horses of the industry on Saturday 1st of April at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, and on Sunday 2nd of April at Northcote Theatre in Melbourne. Tickets are available now.

L.P. is an American pop/rock artist from New York City who is also a songwriter. Singer L.P. was born Laura Pergolizzi and has had a wide ranging musical career signing with various labels throughout her career such as Island Def Jam Music Group and SoBe Entertainment.
In her early days she was first featured on songs with the band Cracker when David Lowery spotted her talent in 1998 and put her on some of the bands hidden tracks. Her powerful voice has a haunting vibrato with a beautiful eerie quality that peaks equally in all her wide ranging tones. L.P. has gained a reputation for her bellowing vocal cords that stay strong in even the highest notes.
There are few artists to compare her unique sound too and she knows how to capture an audience in a way that few can. Her casual style and small stature can be deceiving but those who have seen her live know not to be mislead.
She comes bringing the thunder right out of the gate and from the first moment she steps on stage you will find yourself hypnotized in the silky river of her melodious voice.

I discovered LP in October 2018 and instantly became a huge fan... I was ecstatic to learn she was coming to Houston and I bought 2 tickets (for me and my husband) to, what ended up being, a SOLD OUT show last night!
All I can say is she performed like a SUPERSTAR!!! She did most of the songs on her new album that was just released, and they all sounded like hits!! The venue wasn’t very big, but the energy was amazing and everyone there sang along to every song. I honestly left feeling that is was a privilege to hear such a talented artist perform - I don’t understand why she isn’t more well known. She writes all of her songs and plays the guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and, oh the whistling!!! She wasn’t a big talker, but had loads of energy on the stage and enteracted with the audience brilliantly!
Well the opening act was OK for the 1st song but then everything sounded the same and it became a very long hour. After that it seemed that the stage crew had not done any work before the show because it took almost 40 Min to get the stage ready. When LP finally came out I was not in my most upbeat of moods but before the first song had finished she had not only changed my mood but made me feel privileged to be there. The concert was VERY GOOD, she sounded amazing and her band was on cue every step of the way. It appeared that the audience was miked and some of the screams / shouts amplified back, those decibels were a bit high and unnecessary as the crown was very receptive to a great performance. I've been bragging to people about the concert and look forward to our next LP concert.
There are no words, no picture, or no video that can depict the awesomeness of this woman! I felt like I transcended into a whole new level of existence, and will be forever changed by by the magnitude of her presence and her voice. I am still reeling, and unable to focus on anything else! She is a lyrical genius whose music is poetry in action.
Also, I am so glad to have met so many wonderful people on her show in Fort Lauderdale. I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out and sharing the anticipation with other LP fans! It was a beautiful night...and an experience of a lifetime..
We saw LP at U Street Music Hall in DC on May 28, 2017. LP was one of those rare performers who is not only a virtuoso at her craft (amazing vocals), but also had charisma. She wasn't ultra-talkative, but she still connected with the audience, and everyone had a fantastic time. It was a really impressive performance that went on and on, in a good way. There was a lot of singing along and dancing in the audience. I think of LP as a relatively new artist, but she apparently has plenty of songs in her playbook. She was on stage for at least an hour, and we skipped the encore.
So we are on the other side of the globe and havent had the privilege to see LP live. I've just started tracking her in the hope that one day in the near future ill be notified of an Australian Tour. I run an LP Australia page both on Facebook and Instagram so any Aussies out there that would love to see this amazing artist perform down under, come and like the page. Lets build this under acknowledged artist the fame she deserves
Me and my syster loved the way LP sings and interact with the spectators. Her voice is so special and strong. We really felt her sensibility, with a very strong drive. Love the women. I did not really new her (my sister invited me), except for the hit "Lost on You". Her songs are about love, faith, and I guess resilience. The MTELUS was packed with a "beautiful" montrealers croud on that 28th of february. A night to remember.
LP is an incredible live performer, I'm in love all over again! The visuals were gorgeous for the smallish stage and her voice was so powerful and beautiful. You can tell she puts so much energy into each song. The opening act Korey Dane was funny and played some great songs, I'm a fan now! I'll definitely be going to see LP the next time she tours :)
LP is definitely one of the most gifted, talented, entertaining, gracious and audience-engaging artists I've ever had the pleasure to see live - a thoroughly mesmerizing show. Her vocal ability is almost supernatural, and she whistles like Andrew Bird and catches like Buster Posey. Looking forward to seeing her again, soon and as much as possible!
Kocham hej głos. Byłam już na 5 jej koncertach i wciąż mi mało i mało..... To moje drugie szaleństwo muzyczne w życiu..... Mam 52 lata i 35 lat temu oszalam mną punkcie muzyki Johna Lennona.... Franz Ferdinand’s New LP/Australian Tour
PEDESTRIAN.TV
Franz Ferdinand have revealed the album title and track listing for their upcoming LP slated for a January 26 release.
Frontman Alex Kapranos described Tonight: Franz Ferdinand as “music of the night: to fling yourself around your room to as you psyche yourself for a night of hedonism, for the dance-floor, flirtation, for your desolate heart-stop, for losing it and loving losing it, for the chemical surge in your bloodstream,” He continued “It’s for that lonely hour gently rocking yourself waiting for dawn and it all to be even again.”
Translation? It’s a come down album.
Tracklisting is as follows:
‘Ulysses’ ‘Turn It On’ ‘Kiss Me’ ‘Twilight Omens’ ‘Send Him Away’ ‘Live Alone’ ‘Bite Hard’ ‘What She Came For’ ‘Can’t Stop Feeling’ ‘Lucid Dreams’ ‘Dream Again’ ‘Katherine Kiss Me’
For those salivating to hear new material, you’re in luck as Franz Ferdinand have just announced an Australian tour alongside The Cribs (Featuring Johnny Marr WTF? Last in Australia with Modest Mouse) and Red Riders. Check out the ticket information below..

To get us in the mood, lets revisit the bi-curious musings of “Michael” from their debut self titled album. Best heard with 10,000 fiercely heterosexual males (preferably at BDO) who instantly look sheepish after imploring Michael to dance with them at the top of their lungs. It’s almost as good as seeing guys screaming “Don’t want no short dick man!” in a club.

Californian Skate-Punks Pulley Announce 2023 Australian Tour
By Music Feeds
Vocalist Scott Radinsky and guitarist Mike Harder will bring their three-decade old band Pulley back to Australia for a number of up-close-and-personal headline dates in November 2023. Pulley return to Australia on the back of their 2022 LP, The Golden Life .
The tour begins in Newcastle, New South Wales, and includes shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Brisbane. Pulley will be supported throughout by Novocastrian punk rockers Wiseheimer .
Pulley – ‘Cashed In’
Radinsky formed Pulley after his departure from Ten Foot Pole . He’d fronted Ten Foot Pole for ten years, appearing on all of the band’s releases under its original name, Scared Straight, as well as TFP’s Epitaph debut, Rev , in 1994.
However, Radinsky was also a professional baseball player and his commitment to his day job got in the way of Ten Foot Pole’s ambitions to become a full-time touring enterprise. As a result, Pulley has always been something of a part-time band, releasing a total of seven albums beginning with their 1996 debut, Esteem Driven Engine .
The band’s touring itinerary has also been stop-start, and the forthcoming Australian tour marks Pulley’s first visit to the country since 2004. Radinsky and Harder have seen a few lineup changes since they were last here – bass player Tyler Rebbe remains, but guitarist Trey Clinesmith and drummer Sean Sellers are both relatively new additions.

With powerhouse vocals, genre-bucking attitude, and a sharp pen that distills potent feelings into soaring pop hooks, LP has become one of the most internationally beloved singer-songwriters of their generation. Skyrocketing to fame with 2017’s “Lost On You,” a heart-penetrating folk ballad that hit No. 1 in 18 countries, the Los Angeles-based artist has captivated an audience of over 25.7 million monthly listeners/viewers who pack their transcendent, sold-out shows around the world in more than 150 cities from 3,000 to 20,000 tickets. LP’s unparalleled catalog has amassed over 3B streams globally, filled with universal anthems of transformative love and self-discovery, capturing the complexity of the human experience through their eyes. “Songwriting is a way for me to go to the center of my own world,” LP explains, “and find the originality I needed to get for myself.”
LP honed in on their own style through studying the greats—from Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley, to Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, and Roy Orbison. They emerged in the early 2000s with their daring blues rock-inflected debut Heart-Shaped Scar and 2004’s Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, which brought two major label deals that yielded no records. Yet, on the power of their performance skills alone, LP soon landed a publishing deal where they got to learn to write songs alongside legends who had already scored hits that “made them like 50 million dollars, fer sure,” LP jokes. “I was sitting at the feet of these giants.” Seeing their songwriting breakthrough with Rihanna’s 2011 hit “Cheers (Drink to That),” they have also penned hits for Cher, the Backstreet Boys, Céline Dion, and Christina Aguilera.
In 2014, LP issued their Warner Brothers Records release, Forever for Now, whose breakout track “Into the Wild” sparked a frenzy of new listeners who first heard it in a Citibank television commercial and started searching the internet to find out who this talented singer was. International attention came with her next record, 2016’s Lost on You, which birthed the now-iconic title track, as well as “Muddy Waters,” which landed a prominent placement in the season four finale of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black. LP kept up the momentum with 2018’s Heart to Mouth, which birthed more global hit singles like “Recovery” and “Girls Go Wild,” which was Italy’s most played radio hit of 2019, and again made waves in spring 2020 due to a remake featuring Mexican singer Ximena Sariñana.
A once-in-a-lifetime talent who possesses both wit and introspective depth, LP sees songwriting as their life’s calling, likening it to the art of comedy. “It’s putting someone at ease, helping their mind let go and get them ready to receive these emotions. Then they can let the song speak to their soul in the way that they want.” LP also calls performing their “connection to the world,” which will no doubt be further strengthened with the forthcoming, Love Lines. “I’m trying to reach out to more people all the time,” they add. “To make people feel good for even three minutes of a song.”

Secret Sounds presents…
THE LAST DINNER PARTY
TOURING AUSTRALIA IN JULY 2024
BRISBANE | MELBOURNE | SYDNEY
Presale available from 9am local time Thursday 18 April
Tickets on sale to the general public from 9am local time Friday 19 April
Secret Sounds is excited to announce that the UK baroque indie five-piece, The Last Dinner
Party will tour Australia throughout July , inviting audiences
in Brisbane , Melbourne and Sydney into their fantasy of haunting melodies, explosive
choruses and tragic yet triumphant lyrics
The preceding years of isolation and anxiety have only served to heighten The Last Dinner Party’s creative appeal as they usher in a new era of unashamed maximalism and untethered euphoria. They cast their net of inspiration across artists and genres, from Kate Bush and David Bowie, glam rock and new wave, to unexpected moments of twelve-bar blues, classical overture and heavy synth breakdowns. After spending much of 2022 writing songs for their album, road-testing them, and then taking them into the studio, the band released the instantly moreish, dark guitar-pop track “ Nothing Matters ” in April 2023. It was an introduction that took the online world by storm, even landing at #89 on Triple j’s Hottest 100 of that year. Yet, behind all the excitement and narrative, was a fantastically confident indie-rock song by a band doing it the old-fashioned way, out on the road.
Following a heady opening performance to a packed crowd at Glastonbury, The Last Dinner Party released “Sinner” . The gloriously infectious, leftfield pop song set the band up for a summer that replicated the success of Glastonbury with uncomfortably packed tents at the likes of Green Man, Reading & Leeds, Latitude, and End of the Road festivals, as well as support slots for Florence & The Machine, Lana Del Rey and First Aid Kit. This breakthrough summer was followed by the band selling out headline shows across the US and UK while upgrading venues along the way. Earlier this year, the band released their debut album Prelude to Ecstasy , which was followed by their first BRIT nomination, where they took home the Rising Star Award. The album also saw the band pick up BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2024 and landed triple j’s feature album on its week of release. Prelude to Ecstasy is both the closing of that introductory chapter and the opening of the next. Don’t miss the haunting rock anthems of The Last Dinner Party when they hit Australia in July. Brisbane locals will be treated to a special co-headline performance with adored hypnotic pop act TV Girl, while Tia Gostelow supports the band in Melbourne and Sydney -bringing her vibrant and soul-soothing pop to life. Presale for all shows starts at 9 am local time Thursday 18 April with tickets available to the general public from 9 am local time Friday 19 April.
