Show your patriotism by installing a proud flagpole on your RV. There is nothing quite like having the American flag waving in the wind while you are driving down the highway.

However, make sure to get only the best RV flagpole because, aside from making your vehicle look obnoxious, it might also be dangerous and break quite a few laws. There is nothing more patriotic than having the American flag flying atop an actual flagpole.

Best Flagpole for RV Reviews

1. flagpole-to-go ultimate tailgaters package.

flags for travel trailers

What got me hooked about this RV telescoping flagpole is that it is very compact when completely folded down. However, when extended, it can reach as high as 15 feet. It means you can let your flag fly high.

Another thing that I liked about this camping flagpole is that it comes with adjustable clips, letting you hang up to two flags that can be as big as 3’ x 5’. It opens up a lot of possibilities when it comes to flag options, like flying the American flag, and that of another country for mixed-race families.

I also noticed that I only need to place the flagpole base underneath any of the RV’s tires. The baseplate is wide enough to provide a stable base that will not allow the pole to fall even during high winds. When both the flagpole and baseplate are folded down, they are just a little over 2’ tall. It is quite easy to store inside the RV.

  • Easy to set up
  • Compact and portable
  • Comes with a pretty solid base and holder that will not fall over
  • Has adjustable clips for flying two flags
  • Can stand up to 15 feet high
  • The pole tends to collapse into itself during high winds.

2. FlagPole Buddy 16-ft. RV Flagpole Kit

flags for travel trailers

I like how securely this flagpole comes with solid and durable RV ladder clamps. I mount the pole on the bottom and top rung of the ladder for a more secure base. This flagpole uses adjustable clips, making it possible for me to fly flags that are as big as 3’ x 5’.

Another neat thing is that the pole is long enough that it can accommodate two flags at a time. This flagpole, since it is not screwed onto or secured onto the base, means it can spin depending on the direction of the wind. It prevents the pole from swaying too much and then ultimately snapping into two.

Mounting the flagpole into the base is very easy. You just need to insert the pole at an angle into the top bracket, and then straighten the pole and insert the base into the bottom bracket.

  • Easy to install and mount the pole
  • Allows the pole to spin around
  • Can hold up to two large flags
  • Comes with a sturdy flagpole holder ladder mount, preventing it from dislodging
  • The pole can extend as high as 16 feet.
  • The flag that came with the RV flagpole kit has flimsy grommets; they sheared right off after a week of moderate winds.

3. Camco 20-ft. Telescoping Aluminum Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

This product is the perfect flagpole for people who like tailgating or going on RV trips. This RV flagpole kit comes with an RV flagpole mount anchored using your RV’s wheel. The weight of the RV holds the flag in place. The set also comes with a PVC sleeve that you bury in the ground. It also serves as the base of the flagpole.

The flagpole can extend up to a staggering 20 feet in the air. When you are ready to go back home, it can collapse to just 64 inches in length. With that capability, expect it to be the perfect portable RV flag since you can just lash the flagpole onto your roof carrier and take it down whenever you need to.

It comes with 3 feet by 5 feet American flag, so you can immediately use it upon opening. If you are in a hurry to show your patriotism, then this kit is for you. However, let it be known that the flag is made in China, so you might want to buy another one that is made in the USA if this fact bothers you.

This RV flagpole set also comes with clips that will allow you to fly two flags at a time. It is great for citizens who migrated into the US and would also like to honor their home countries. It is also configured to let you hang a flag at half-mast as a sign of respect, or when the country is in mourning.

  • Comes with a wheel-anchored flag holder
  • Has enough hardware for flying two 3’x5’ flags
  • The kit came with a free American flag.
  • Can fly flags at half-mast
  • The pole retracts to a compact size.
  • The holder is a bit loose.

4. Yeshom 20-ft. Telescopic Aluminum Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

This item is one of the finest options for a portable flagpole that I have ever had the pleasure of using. It is made of light yet sturdy aluminum, which telescopes to a total length of 20 feet. However, you can lower the flagpole to around six feet high. It is very convenient when you live in a windy area.

Unlike the other portable flagpoles out there, this one is quite beautiful, making it more than worthy of holding the great American flag. The top of the flagpole has a gold-plated finial on top, giving it a classy touch. If you want, you can even install a solar light on top of the flagpole so that your flag will still look majestic even at night.

This 5th wheel RV flagpole is designed in a way that you can fly two flags at once. For instance, if you want to fly the American flag and your state flag at the same time, then you can do so. Also, you can hang the flag at half-mast when the country or your state is in a state of mourning.

The best thing is that this flagpole also comes with a grand old American flag. The size of the flag is 3’ x 5’ and is constructed using durable materials. Also, to ensure that the flag flies proudly for as long as you want, it has solid grommets. Such grommets prevent it from ripping, even in strong winds.

  • Made of solid and lightweight aluminum
  • Has a gold-plated finial for added fanciness
  • Can be extended to 20 feet high, and lowered to around 6-feet during high wind conditions
  • Has included hardware for hanging two flags or one at half-mast
  • Comes with a PVC sleeve for burying under the ground
  • Does not come with a portable flagpole holder

5. FlagPole Buddy 22-ft. RV Flagpole Kit

flags for travel trailers

Weighing in at just 6.7 pounds total, this collapsible flagpole for RV is an ideal way to show your patriotism whenever you go out camping or take your RV out to a huge tailgate party. You can extend this flagpole to a height of 20 feet, making your flag easy to see even from afar.

Aside from holding flags, you can also place a cellphone antenna booster on top. It will help you get a more reliable signal regardless of where you go. It is possible since the antenna is not that heavy. With that, it can necessarily make an RV flagpole a huge cellphone antenna.

This flagpole is high and sturdy enough to fly two 3’ by 5’ flags at the same time, but some people reported that they were able to fly two 4’ by 6’ sized flags without any problems. However, regardless of the size of the flag, you need to pull down the flagpole if it gets too windy outside.

This flagpole mounts on the ladder of the RV. This set comes with two sturdy brackets that clamp securely on the ladder. Once installed, mounting the flagpole itself will take just a couple of seconds. The design of the brackets also makes it easy to remove the flagpole when needed.

  • Weighs just a little under 7 pounds
  • Can extend up to 20 feet high, and lowered during high winds
  • Can hold up to two 4’ x 6’ flags easily
  • Easy to install as it does not require any drilling
  • The flagpole can be mounted and unmounted in seconds.
  • The rings holding the flag last only a couple of months

6. Gientan Telescopic Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

The detail that I loved about this portable flagpole is the vastly improved twist-locking system that holds the telescoping flagpole in place. The other flagpoles that I have tried so far started slipping after just a couple of weeks. This one just stayed put.

The flagpole is also made of 1.2mm thick aluminum, which is thicker than other brands. It means that this flagpole is much resistant to bending in high winds. However, the pole will still bend a bit to avoid snapping in half.

If the wind outside gets a bit too strong, like in the realm of around 20 miles per hour, it is best to collapse it and take the flag indoors until the weather dials down a bit. It is also effortless to install. Just dig a hole deep enough to embed the PVC sleeve, then insert the base of the pole into it.

One person can raise the flagpole from 5’ to 20’ in just minutes. Taking it down is also just as fast. The clips that hold the flag in place rotate around the shaft so that the flag will not wrap around the flagpole. It ensures that your flag will still be proudly waving in the wind whichever direction it blows.

  • Made of thicker gauge aluminum tubing, making it more resistant to bending and buckling
  • Boasts of an improved twist locking system as it now has an elastic fastener to secure it in place
  • Very easy to install and raise
  • The flags rotate around the shaft.
  • One person can raise and lower the flagpole.
  • The twist-lock still loosens in high winds, but not to the bottom.

7. Klvied Telescoping Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

The thing that I liked the most about this flagpole is the fact that it is telescoping. I can let it stand at just a little under five feet high, so I can still see the flag from my living room window . Alternatively, I can extend it fully to 25 feet so that the entire neighborhood can see it.

However, you can also lower the flagpole by quite a bit to prevent it from bending too much in strong winds. This telescoping aluminum RV flagpole twist locks in place. However, unlike the other brands, this one has rubber fasteners that keep the joints from slipping off.

Note, though, that it will still sometimes come loose depending on how strong the winds are that day. Another feature that I liked about this flagpole is that the clips rotate along the shaft of the pole. This feature prevents the flag from getting tangled and wrapped around the flagpole. No matter where the wind blows, your flag will still fly proudly.

Speaking of the flag, there is already one included when you buy this RV flagpole kit. You will already get a 3’ by 5’ flag so that you can immediately let it fly the moment that you receive your package. However, keep in mind that this flag is made in China.

If this fact is adverse to your principles, then feel free to use another flag, preferably one that is made in the USA. The only problem I have is that the RV flagpole tongue mount is sold separately. It should have at least come with a wheel-anchored flagpole stand.

  • Features a sturdy twist-lock mechanism that will not dislodge
  • Comes with a PVC sleeve for mounting the flagpole into the ground
  • Features a free 3’ by 5’ American flag
  • Can be set up by a single person; the entire installation can be done in under thirty minutes
  • Tangle-free flag mounting system, which means that even if the wind is howling, the flag will fly freely
  • Does not come with an RV kit

8. Flagpole-To-Go Portable Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

This collapsible flagpole can be set to stand at 4’ up to 17’, so if you just want to hang the flag where you can see it easily, then you can do so. You also have the option to string up the flag to as high as it can go for everyone else to see.

I also love the fact that it comes with adjustable clips. The placement of the clips can be easily adjusted just by pinching and pulling them anywhere on the pole you wish. Hanging the flag is easy as well. Just insert the clips into the grommets and then lock the clip in place.

This flagpole is so lightweight that only one person is needed to set it up properly, and it will only take a couple of minutes to boot. This flagpole is also sturdy enough that it can hold a 3’ by 5’ flag without any problems whatsoever. I managed to set my flagpole up by myself, and the whole process did not even take half an hour.

It only required a couple of essential tools. Do not be afraid when this flagpole should sway and bend with the wind. It is designed to do so. Flexing is its way to absorb the power of the wind so that it will not break into two pieces.

  • Lightweight and flexible construction
  • Easy to set up, one person can do it in minutes
  • Can hold a 3’ by 5’ flag
  • The twist-lock works well.
  • The clips holding the flag can be easily repositioned.
  • The flag gets tangled around the pole often.

9. Valley Forge American Flag Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

The neat thing about this portable flagpole is that it already comes pretty much fully assembled. You only need to add the finial and the clips for holding the flag. The flag stand is already incorporated into the total design. You just need to attach the small details, and then extend the pole.

You can also extend this flagpole to a maximum height of 16 feet. It can hold flags that are as large as 3’ by 5’ in size. It is a perfect addition to your rig during tailgate parties. I usually use my flag as a way to find out where I parked my truck when I attend large tailgate parties.

Unlike other portable flagpoles, this one is entirely made of fiberglass, making it incredibly light, but also flexible enough that it sways with the wind. It also comes with a nylon carrying case for improved portability and storage.

The best thing about this flagpole kit is that it is entirely made in the USA. According to US laws, flags should be labeled with their country of origin. This kit comes with a Flag Manufacturers Association of America’s seal of authenticity, meaning your flag is 100% sourced and made in the USA.

  • Can extend up to 16’ high but you can also lower it to around just 6-feet when winds are strong
  • Can hold flags up to 15 square feet large; can even hold two of them at the same time
  • Comes almost fully assembled; you will only need to add a couple of small parts
  • The kit contains a wheel anchor and PVC sleeve.
  • Comes with a flag that is 100% made in the USA; certified by the FMAA
  • Have to remove all the additional hardware before storage

10. WeValor Telescoping Flagpole Kit

flags for travel trailers

This 25-ft telescoping flagpole is made from very thick 16-ga aluminum tubing. It can be flown at full height, or you can also choose not to extend the entire length, maybe using just a bit over half when your place is a bit windy.

I also like the improved telescoping locking system. This flagpole has elastic fasteners that prevent the segments from sliding out of the locked position. You will never be surprised to find that your flagpole has gotten shorter after a particularly windy day.

I also like how easy it is to install and set up the entire flagpole kit. I managed to do everything on my own, and it did not even take me an hour to finish it. You just need to dig a hole deep enough to insert the PVC sleeve.

Insert the flagpole into the sleeve, attach the clips, connect the included flag then extend the flagpole to your desired height. Another thing I love is that it comes with a 15 square-feet flag, so you can immediately set up your flagpole as soon as you receive the package.

Speaking of flags, this item can support two flags. It means if you want to fly your state flag, or another nation’s flag underneath the American flag, then you surely can do that. The issue I have with this flagpole is that even at just 20 miles per hour winds, the flagpole will sway quite a bit.

When it happens, I lower the flagpole to just below 15 feet. It is because it will snap in two if I leave it up.

  • Can be extended as high as 25-feet
  • Can be set up and installed easily
  • Comes with a large 15 square feet US flag
  • You can lower it during high winds.
  • Has space for two flags
  • The flagpole sways quite a lot when fully extended, even in just moderate winds.

11. CO-Z Aluminum Telescoping Flagpole

flags for travel trailers

This flagpole extends up to 20-feet high and can withstand light to medium breeze. When fully extended, I find that 20-mile an hour winds make the flagpole sway quite a bit, so it is best to lower it a bit to provide it with more rigidity.

One thing I liked about this is that the rings that the flag connects to swivel around the shaft of the pole. It can prevent the flag from getting tangled when it is blown by the wind. It means you will never need to bring down the flag during somewhat windy days because the flag will always be unfurled.

Even though it is a twenty-foot flagpole, it is possible to install and set it up by one person. The flagpole itself is made of lightweight aluminum, making it easy to lift and extend. I was able to install mine in under 20 minutes, and that includes digging the hole for the PVC sleeve.

Another nice thing that I liked is that the kit came with an American flag, all ready to use. There is also a gold-plated ball that attaches on top of the flagpole for additional style points. I also installed a solar-powered flagpole light on top of the flagpole so that I can still admire the flag at night.

  • Easy to set up without the need for any tools
  • Can extend up to 20 feet high
  • Comes with a sturdy locking system that will not collapse
  • The rings swivel around the shaft to prevent the flag from getting tangled.
  • Allows you to get a free flag
  • The free flag is not very durable.

12. Danslesbls Spinner Flag

flags for travel trailers

If you want something a bit more dynamic to show how much you love the greatest nation in the world, then you need to get this spinner flag. When you use this, the flag is always unfurled and waving in the wind. However, if a particularly strong gust of wind blows through, it will just swivel on its base to prevent snapping.

All of the pieces are pre-assembled. You just need to do a bit more assembly, but nothing that difficult. I had mine up and about in only fifteen minutes. Even the base just needs to be buried in the ground for around a foot or so. You do not have to mix and pour concrete.

Another thing I love about this flagpole is that it is made of furniture-grade PVC pipes. This material is lightweight yet very durable. Unlike plumbing-grade PVC, it is weatherproof and will not get brittle when exposed to extreme sunlight. You can leave the flagpole outside on any kind of weather, and it will still stand.

It comes with a true made in the USA American flag. The flag measures 3’ by 5’, and has metal grommets for you to hang it up on. It also has a low risk of fraying. Unlike other foreign-made flags that do not pay close attention to quality, you can be sure that this flag will last for many years.

  • Lightweight and easy to assemble and install
  • Entirely made in the USA
  • Comes with a large American flag
  • The flag is always unfurled and waves in the breeze.
  • Portable, making it possible for you to bring and install it anywhere
  • The PVC tubing used is a bit too small.

Best Flagpoles for RV Buying Guide

rv-telescoping-flag-pole

If it is the first time for you to purchase a portable flagpole, there are a couple of things you have to consider. Among these things are the following:

Wind speed – How strong are the winds in the specific spot where you will be setting up your flagpole? Will you be going to a campsite where there is hardly a breeze, or will you be attending a festival in the desert where the breeze can kick up the sand? Get a flagpole that is sturdy yet still flexible enough to withstand the wind.

On the other hand, if there is little wind or only a bit of breeze flows through the place you will be flying your flag, you can get a spinner flagpole instead. It will let the flag hang at such an angle that it will always be unfurled and spread out. It is as if a steady breeze is blowing at it.

Telescoping or segmented – You can gain benefits from both these assembly methods. The telescoping flagpoles are more portable and do not contain as many pieces. However, when they bend and twist due to the wind, the twist-lock mechanism usually loosens up.

Segmented flagpoles will not collapse regardless of the wind, but they take a while to assemble and disassemble. You can also find them coming with a lot of different pieces, all of which you need to keep track when storing the flagpole.

The thickness of the flagpole – If you are getting an aluminum, telescoping flagpole, then go for one made of thicker gauge metal. If the walls of the tubing are too thin, then there is a risk of it buckling at just the slightest breeze.

The thickness of the flagpole material is especially important when you will be getting something that is fifteen feet high, or higher. Ideally, the flagpole tubing should at least be 16-gauge thickness, especially along the base.

However, you can’t avoid the fact that RV flagpoles are not as sturdy as stationary ones. That said, they will still tend to sway during windy days. Just take it down to prevent it from snapping.

Height of the flagpole – How high do you plan on flying your flag? If you are installing the flagpole in your home, you might need to consult with the HOA beforehand. There might be restrictions in place regarding the height of structures in your neighborhood.

If you are using it in your RV while camping, find out of there will be any obstructions in your campsite, like tree branches, that might prevent the flagpole from getting set up.

If you intend to use the flagpole on your RV or set it up while you are parked, the flagpole should be high enough that the flag clears the roof of your RV by at least a foot or so. Also, consider that the taller the flagpole, the deeper the base should be. If it is mounted on the RV, the bracket should be very stable and spaced far apart.

Materials used – The most common material used for making portable flagpoles is aluminum because it is very lightweight while still being durable. However, there are certain types of flagpoles, like spinning flagpoles, that use PVC tubing instead. If you plan to choose a telescoping flagpole, make sure that the materials used are not sub-par.

You can also find flagpoles made of steel, but these are quite heavy. They are also usually just one piece, so they are mostly made for home use only.

Flag included? – In almost all RV flagpole sets, there is always an included flag. If you do not mind where the flag came from, then you will be fine with the ones that come free in flagpole kits.

However, if you are serious about buying only American-made ones, especially when it comes to flags, then you should check the label attached to the flag. If it came from any other country aside from the USA, you have every right to discard it and get a true American-made flag.

Single or multiple flags? – The neat thing about many RV flagpoles these days is that they come with more than enough clips to mount more than just one flag. You can clip on another country, your state flag, or the school flag or pennant of your favorite team.

If you do not want to fly two flags, it is still an excellent idea to get a flagpole that at least has this functionality. For instance, if the country is at mourning, you can attach the flag on the clips meant for the second flag.

How Many Types of Flagpole for RV Are There?

Several different kinds of RV flagpoles are available at present, and they are usually differentiated depending on how they are installed.

First, you can find the RV flagpole bumper mount that you can mount on the tow hitch of your RV. It comes with flagpole bases that attach to the tow hitch at the rear of your RV, so you can fly your flag while driving down the road.

If you choose to get this type of flagpole, you need to make sure that the flag you will be using is safe for road use. Get in touch with your local DMV to find out what size of flag you can use on your RV when it is on the road.

The next types are the ones that come with wheel-anchored flag bases. The flag base has a wide flange at the bottom. You place this flag base in such a way that your RV’s wheel rolls over the flange. The weight of your vehicle will keep the flag base in place so it can hold the flagpole.

The neat thing about it is that you do not have to drill any holes anywhere on your RV. It is also stable enough to keep the flagpole vertical even during windy days. Another mounting method is the one that involves the use of hard plastic brackets that attach to the ladder at the rear of your RV.

Although the flag is mounted onto the vehicle itself, you should not drive down the road with the flagpole still mounted in the brackets. It could even get blown off and cause accidents.

How Does an RV Flagpole Work?

RV flagpoles are very much different from the ones that you see in schools, government buildings, parks, and others. In most cases, you can see them being made to be portable, so they need to be collapsible. The best design for such kind of a flagpole is the telescoping kind.

It is made of several segments of aluminum tubing of decreasing size. The ends of the segments are threaded, so you can easily tighten and lock them in place. You can also go for flagpoles that are segmented. It means that the flagpole is made of several pieces of tubing.

One end of these tubing segments is reduced just enough that you can insert them at the bottom end of the other. The height of this kind of flagpole will depend on how many segments you plan on using. You do not have to use all tube segments if you do not want to.

Usually, these flagpoles do not have a pulley system. You just hang the flag by its grommets on clips on the pole instead. If you want to take down the flag, you need to collapse the flagpole into itself until you can reach the flag.

However, some flagpoles also come with a rope and pulley system, though, they are not the same as the metal ones used in traditional flagpoles. It is usually made of plastic.

Which Brand of Flagpole for RV is the Best?

Many different brands of RV flagpoles are available in the market nowadays, but not all of them are worth your time and money. If you want to spare yourself from all the stress, then you can go for some trusted and highly recommended brands, including Flagpole-To-Go, FlagPole Buddy, Camco, Yeshom, Gientan, Klvied, Valley Forge, WeValor, CO-Z, and Danslesbls.

How to Choose the Right Size?

The size of the flagpole you get depends on where you will be placing it. Ideally, the flagpole should be visible from all angles. What it means is that it should be tall enough to clear any nearby obstacles. If you are placing the flagpole in your front yard, it should at least be higher than the roofline of your home.

If you are placing it beside or on your RV, it should clear the roof of your vehicle enough that the flag will not touch it. Those are the bare minimum factors when choosing a size of a flagpole. You can choose to go higher if you wish.

However, avoid getting obnoxiously large flags. An example is something that can easily drape over half of your house. This kind of flag is more of a trouble than its worth.

How to Mount a Flagpole for RV?

There are several ways for you to mount a flagpole on your RV. Your choice will largely depend on what kind of flagpole you are using. The most popular mounting method when July 4 th is fast approaching is the tow-hitch mount. With this method, the flagpole mount is installed into the tow-hitch receiver of the RV.

You can see it being used by RVers who want to fly their flags while they are driving down the road. The only limitation when using this kind of mounting method is that you can only use a short flagpole, like something around 6 feet. You might also need to choose a smaller flag if you are planning to drive with the flag on.

However, if you will be mounting the flagpole once you are parked safely, then you can go as high as you want. One other way to mount a flag onto an RV is by installing flag holding brackets onto the ladder at the back. The great thing about these mounting brackets is that you do not have to drill any holes. They just clamp onto the ladder.

You can use this type of mount to hold small flagpoles when driving. Alternatively, you can also use this to hold 20ft to 25ft flagpoles while parked. If you do not want to bother yourself with any kind of installation whatsoever, you can get the wheel-anchored flagpole holder instead.

It is just a small piece of tubing with a metal flange welded on the bottom. To use it, park your RV. Place the flange underneath any one of the wheels. You should then give a bit of space between the tire and the tubing.

You should then go back behind the wheel and just move the RV enough that the flange is directly underneath the tire. The weight of the RV will hold down the flagpole holder, providing a solid base to insert your flagpole.

Care and Maintenance

The great thing about flagpoles is that they are very low-maintenance, especially the portable ones. There is nothing much that you need to do in terms of maintenance. For the most part, you just need to take it down every once in a while so you can wipe it clean with just a regular cloth rag.

If your flagpole is made of aluminum, and you want to make it look fancy, you can shine it using aluminum polish and buff it using a soft piece of cloth. While the flagpole is low-maintenance, remember that the flag is another thing. The care instructions for the flag will depend on its material.

If the flag is made of polyester or nylon, you can machine wash it on a gentle cycle with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not throw the flag into the dryer. Hang it somewhere out of the sun to dry.

However, if your flag is made of cotton or wool, it is best to have it professionally dry-cleaned to prevent the colors from bleeding into each other. It is the best option, especially if your flag has personal value.

Also, to make sure that your flagpole and flag last for as long as they should, you need to consider the weather outside. If it is windy outside, and you see that your flagpole is bending a bit too much than it usually does (especially the telescoping flagpoles), carefully collapse the flagpole. Detach and properly fold the flag, and then take it inside.

Also, if the weather forecast says that it will be raining for most of the day, bring your flagpole and flag inside. It is especially true if there will be a lightning storm. You would not want your flagpole to act as a lightning rod.

Flying a flag can show others your interests, the group you belong to, or your pride. So no matter whether it's an American flag, a military branch flag, a flag for your favorite sports team, a flag for your college alma mater, or more, you can still display flags. At the campground, this doesn't change; it just changes shape. Instead of flying your flag from your front porch or backyard, you can fly it from your RV or from a portable ground site. No matter which form you go for, you can bring your pride along with you on your trips and adventures.

How can I attach my flag to my RV?

There are a few ways to bring your flag along with you, whether it's on your rig or not. First, we have ladder RV flag mounts. These attach to the ladder on the back of your rig. These are great because they're easy to install and are easy to store for transit or in case of bad weather. They're telescoping and therefore, don't take up as much space as they could otherwise. And once these are installed, you don't need to climb the RV ladder to set up the flagpole. Just attach it to the clips and extend the flagpole.

Next up, you've got RV hitch mount flagpoles. These are good for people who might not have a camper, but do have a towing vehicle. These simply insert into your 2" hitch receiver and once they're secure, you have a flagpole mount to fly your flag. If you're wanting to show your pride at a tailgating party or in a location where bringing a camper is kind of frowned upon, you can use these easily and quickly. Just know that these are not intended for use while your vehicle is engaged or moving.

There are also RV tire flag mounts. These are perhaps the easiest flag mount to set up, since it doesn't require any brackets, straps, alterations, or other installation tools. All you need to do is place the flag mount on the ground and park your tire right over it in the center. This will hold down the mount and you can then mount the flag and flagpole. The flag and mount will be held down by the weight of your vehicle. Taking it down is pretty easy as well, since you just remove the flag and flagpole and drive off of the mount

A brief look at American flag etiquette

Flying an American flag requires more than just a place to hang it from. There are some pieces of etiquette that need to be considered as well.

  • The flag should never touch anything beneath it.
  • It should never be carried flat or horizontally, but should always be aloft and free.
  • It should never be displayed or stored in a way that it could be easily torn, soiled, or damaged.
  • If you are flying another flag on the same pole, the American flag should always be at the top and larger than or equal to the size of the other flag.
  • On certain days or occasions, you can fly the American flag at half mast, however, it should be raised to full height first, and then lowered.
  • If you want to keep the flag up all the time, then it needs to be illuminated at night.
  • If there is poor weather coming, make sure to lower the flag to prevent damage.

20 RV Flag Pole Ideas: How Do You Hang a Flag on an RV?

Flying your country’s flag is one way of showing your patriotic spirit. However, RVs and travel trailers, etc., have limited places you can mount a flag pole. Yet, it still can be done even if you do not want to use your rear ladder.

There are different ways to fly a flag on an RV. One option would be to buy a hitch-mounted flag pole, while another would be to make your own out of PVC pipe. The latter has been done more times than you would think.

To learn about more ideas to fly your flag this year, just continue to read our article. It has those ideas and more information to help you show your patriotism. Take a few minutes to see if these ideas will solve your flag flying issues

How do You Hang a Flag On An RV?

How-do-You-Hang-a-Flag-On-An-RV

The only difficulties you will face in hanging your flag this year will be, one, where to put it on your RV; and two, if your campground allows flags to be flown. Other than that, you have scores of options available to you.

Not only does Amazon have more than enough mounts for you to use, but you can also easily make your own and add it to your RV. The key will be where you place it on your RV or trailer. You have to be careful about drilling into your trailer, etc., as you do not want to hit anything vital to its operation.

Some people make free-standing PVC flag poles so that they do not have to worry about adding more holes to their RVs or damaging any wiring, etc.

RV Flag Pole Ideas

There are two basic designs for flag poles. The stationary model comes in a variety of lengths. Once you make the flag pole that length it is that way forever. The flexibility in length is what makes this option so attractive.

The other design is the telescopic flag pole. This design gives you some length options and you can change it if the weather gets bad, the wind kicks up or it is a beautiful sunny day.

The materials you can use for flag poles can be plastic, metal, or wood. You do not have unlimited choices here. Each construction material category will have numerous options you can try. For example, with the wood option, you have pine, fir, spruce oak, maple, and many more options.

RV Awning Flag Mount

There are a few options that are commercially sold that will attach to your awning. Some of these mounts are bolt-on and will need larger bolts if you have thicker awning supports.

Another option will be the screw-in type. This is where you would have to drill some holes and either use tough screws to hold the mount in place or lag bolts and go all the way through your awning support.

Either way, your mount should be strong and hold your flag proudly. You may be able to adapt your rear ladder mount flag pole and use it on your awning supports. That would be a third option to try and it would be safe and convenient to use.

A fourth would be a mount that attaches to your deck fence. The diameters will need to be similar for these to work on your awning supports.

5th Wheel Hitch Flag Holder

5th-Wheel-Hitch-Flag-Holder

So far we have only seen a couple of models of this option. One will cost you roughly $140 depending on where you buy it. It is called The Boompa Fifth Wheel Flag Mount. The design has it going over the part of the hitch that connects to the 5th wheel in the bed of your truck.

Then it is fixed into place with a large bolt. The flag holder accommodates 5 flags in total and can make a nice addition to your 5th wheel trailer. Other flag holders claiming to be for 5th wheel trailers are the same models that you can use on an RV, travel trailer, or even truck camper.

They simply are held to the trailer by screws or bolts and can mount anywhere on your 5th wheel.

Camper Bumper Flag Pole

There are some of these on sale at different outlets. The one we took a close look at goes over a 4-inch bumper and uses a U-shaped bolt to secure it in place. It is easy to assemble the unit and should not take you more than a couple of minutes to put it in place.

This is just a mount and you would need to supply your own telescopic flag pole to fly your flag. This option will work on your hitch as well if you want more protection for the mount and the flag pole.

The designs we have seen for this product are basically the same but made by different companies who put different lengths and prices on similar products. This model will cost you between $20 and $120

RV Frame Mount Flag Pole

To be honest, some of these mounts are exactly the same as the ones mentioned in the previous section. They use a U-shaped bolt to secure the mount to your hitch, bumper, or other exposed frame part and it stays in place.

The installation and costs will be the same so you do not have to worry about those aspects of the mount. You can use those mounts that need to have holes drilled into your frame and attached by screws.

Those options take a little work and you have to be careful where you drill your holes but they are secure and hold your flag or flags well.

RV Flag Pole With Solar Light

RV-Flag-Pole-With-Solar-Light

One way to light up your flag at night is to purchase one of these flag holders. They have a large section to accommodate the solar batteries and lights. However, these are not really flag pole holders, They go on existing flag poles and are secured by the included hardware.

There are different versions of this type of flag pole accessory and they range price from $60 to $70 depending on where you buy them. Every version we have seen of this product is all the same. You need to supply the flag and the flag pole.

These are made for longer flag poles between 16 and 22 feet in length. There is a shorter version at Amazon, 6 feet in length, and it seems to come with its own flag pole. Its price is only $30 but it should illuminate your flag in low light conditions. The light should last up to 16 hours on one charge.

RV Flag Pole Tongue Mount

This is a mount that has more options than any of the others combined. The Amazon results page was filled with the different types of hitch mount flag poles. We mention these as they do go on the tongue of your trailer if it is not a 5th wheel.

Their prices range between $25 to $60 approx depending on the brand, the size, and how many flags you want to fly at one time. The other tongue mount option is the same as the bumper and frame mounts.

Since all those parts are designed the same, the mounts are interchangeable and can go on any part of your trailer frame no matter which end of the trailer it is at.

Suction Cup RV Flag Pole Holder

There are some nicely designed suction cup flag holders that will work on your RV and trailer. One is designed to hold one flag only and it is retailing for around $40 but it looks secure and should hold on nice and tight.

The other option we saw, held 3 flags and it only cost about $9. The suction cups can hold up to 3 pounds at a time so your flag poles and flags have to be small and light. The single model mentioned above had no weight capacity listed but the reviews were not that spectacular.

You can use both when driving but do not be surprised if they do fly off at high speeds. Make sure to attach them securely to help prevent that from taking place.

Polesandholders.com

Polesandholders.-om

This is just one internet outlet that can meet your flag flying needs. The company has a wide assortment of products that will help you find the right flag pole mount as well as other accessories.

Their flag pole offering is very limited but they make up for that lack with a large number of flag pole mounts on sale. You can get any type of mount you want from the frame to the bumper to the awning and ladder versions.

Their prices are reasonable with most mounts in the mid-$30 range. Their large selection should make sure you get what you want at a price you can afford. They even have a few tire mounts that are unique and very nice to look at.

DIY RV Flag Pole Mount Options

When the commercial flag poles and mounts do not do it for you, there are a few options you can turn to if you like working with your hands. One project would be to use PVC piping and connectors to build your own flag pole.

This is a cheap and easy way to get the design you want. Plus, you can make it any length you want. Then there is the fence post option. Just take a nice length of the galvanized fence post and do a little drilling to hold your flag.

You would have to make your own metal mount as well and you would have the freedom to attach this option to any part of your trailer including the bumper and the tongue.

Not to be outdone, if you are a carpenter, fashioning some wood dowels and some pine wood for the holder should be nice and easy as well as inexpensive. Again, you would have a lot of freedom in how you design this construction material.

Best RV Flag Pole Mounts

Flag poles are basic and the best will be the ones that are made from the strongest material that can withstand the elements. It is the mounts that count as these can be shaped into a variety of different designs that complement your trailer or surroundings.

The one we liked the best was the garden mount. It came with a place to hang your flag as well as a nice lantern. It is a design that would add a little beauty to your yard or camping area.

The runner-up would be the tire mount as that is easy to put up and you do not have to harm your trailer or RV in doing it. All you have to do is drive over the stand and park the tire on it. Then add the mount to the other side and finally your flag and flag pole.

These two designs are unique and the latter can be a DIY project.

Attaching a Flag Pole To a Travel Trailer

Attaching-a-Flag-Pole-To-a-Travel-Trailer

Not hard to do as the commercially sold products come with the hardware you need to attach it to the spot it is designed to hold onto. All you may need is a drill, screwdriver, or socket wrench and the mounts are in place in minutes.

The key is to pick the right spot where the hardware will not damage anything.

Some Final Words

While there may be limited spots to attach your flag pole, there are enough options to make those poles secure, good-looking, and keep your flag flying. The hardest part will be deciding which one you will buy.

The solar light options are great but not always practical if you have close neighbors. The decision is yours and you have a myriad of options to show your patriotism.

Mounting Options for RV Flag Poles

To ensure our flags fly high and proud, we need a secure and stable mounting option for our RV flag poles. The choice of mounting method depends on the RV’s design, personal preferences, and the type of flag pole being used. Here are some common mounting options:

Bumper mounts are a popular choice for RV flag pole installations. As the name suggests, they attach to the RV’s bumper, providing a sturdy platform to display your flag. These mounts typically feature brackets or holders that secure the flag pole firmly in place.

Installation:

  • Select a suitable location on the RV’s bumper for mounting the flag pole.
  • Securely attach the bracket to the chosen spot using bolts or screws, ensuring it is level and aligned properly.
  • Slide the flag pole into the bracket, making sure it is firmly secured.
  • Adjust the height of the flag pole as needed, ensuring the flag is displayed at the desired level.

Advantages:

  • Relatively easy to install and does not require extensive modification to the RV.
  • Offers a stable and secure mounting point for the flag pole.
  • Allows for convenient flag display and removal.

If your RV boasts an exterior ladder, ladder mounts offer an excellent option for displaying your flag with a touch of prominence. These mounts attach to the RV’s ladder, providing a secure platform for the flag pole at a higher elevation.

Their adjustable design allows for positioning at different heights on the ladder, accommodating various flag sizes. Ladder mounts are a practical choice for RVers who prefer a more elevated flag display and seek versatility in mounting options.

  • Select a suitable height on the ladder for mounting the flag pole.
  • Securely attach the ladder mount, ensuring it is level and tightly fastened.

  • Ideal for RVs with ladders, providing a higher flag display.
  • Adjustable height for flag pole positioning, accommodating various flag sizes.

Hitch mounts are versatile mounting options that utilize the RV’s hitch receiver. These mounts are inserted into the hitch receiver and provide a stable base for the flag pole.

Tire mounts offer a convenient and adaptable option for RV flag pole installations, utilizing the RV’s tire as a sturdy anchor point. The tire mount’s design is characterized by its simplicity and effectiveness. It consists of a flat panel or plate that is strategically placed beneath a parked tire.

Top Rated RV Flag Poles: In-depth Reviews

Why we love it:

After using it for several months now on our Class A motorhome, we can say it’s been one of our best trailer flag pole purchases.

This 16-foot fiberglass pole is a breeze to set up. The sections quickly slide together to reach the full height, and it takes just minutes to mount the included pole brackets to our RV ladder.

The best part is how versatile this flag pole is. It can accommodate flags up to 3×5 feet, so we’ve flown state flags, our alma mater flags during big game weekends, and even American flags for holidays. With the included clips you can fly two flags at once.

The camper flag pole is also super convenient to take down. When it’s time to hit the road, the pole sections just as easily collapse back down to a compact size for travel and storage.

  • Easy installation and height adjustment
  • Accommodates flags up to 3×5 feet
  • Can fly two flags simultaneously
  • Collapses down for compact storage
  • Durable fiberglass construction
  • May break in very high winds
  • Single pole sections can rattle
  • Higher price than some alternatives

When it comes to flying your favorite flag in camping, the WeValor RV telescoping flag pole is a real space saver. As veteran RVers, we know how valuable storage space is in our rig. That’s why we give our approval to this flag holder for RV .

This flag pole for camper extends to an impressive 20 feet with just a few twists so our banner can proudly catch the wind. When it’s time to stow it away, rotating the sections reverse retracts it down to a compact size. No fussing with ropes or pulleys required thanks to the twist-lock design.

The thick-walled aluminum pole feels durable enough to withstand seasonal weather changes. On windy nights, we’ve watched it standing tall while simpler poles nearby were struggling. It’s one of the best RV flag poles for the money.

  • Compact design retracts down to 35 inches for storage
  • Easy setup twist-lock system with no ropes or pulleys
  • Durable 20 ft aluminum pole can withstand weather
  • The included flag feels flimsy
  • Locking mechanism has room for improvement

3. Camco 16’ Portable Telescoping Fiberglass Flagpole

We decided to give the Camco flagpole a try after seeing how many other campers recommended it. Now that we’ve had a chance to use it ourselves, we can see why it’s such a popular portable flag pole for camping .

Setting it up only takes a few minutes. The telescoping sections slide smoothly but stay put where you position them. There’s a little wiggle at the very top if winds pick up, but it’s never been an issue for us. You can add a small brace or stabilizer to tighten it up further. But overall the build quality has held up well through multiple trips.

It’s one of the best RV flag poles out there although the welds could be a bit stronger and the metal thickness on the thinner side. But for the reasonable price, we feel it’s a solid choice that does the job.

  • Easily collapsible to compact 48″ length for storage
  • Sets up in minutes with smooth telescoping sections
  • Sturdy 16′ height flies flag proudly above vehicle
  • Includes flag and ground stake for secure positioning
  • Top section has a bit of wiggle in strong winds
  • Welds and metal thickness could potentially be stronger

If you’re looking for a sturdy yet portable flag pole for travel trailer , look no further than the Valley Forge Telescoping Flagpole.

Right out of the carrying case, we were impressed by this telescoping flag pole for RV. The fiberglass pole sections slide smoothly together to extend to a full 16 feet, tall enough to properly display any flag. And with its durable ball top finial and swivel flag hooks, a flag will fly proudly no matter the conditions.

It’s one of the best RV flag poles in terms of ease of installation. Just place the wheel mount on level ground, insert the pole, and you’re done! No more struggling with unstable free-standing poles.

The included ground sleeve could be more robust. But a few beefy sections of PVC pipe solves that issue nicely. I also reinforced the inside of the pole sections with additional PVC for extra stability during high winds.

  • Tall 16-ft height allows proper flag display
  • Smooth telescoping sections for easy setup
  • Durable ball top and swivel hooks withstand weather
  • Portable wheel mount provides stable base
  • Included ground sleeve could be more robust
  • May need reinforcement for high wind areas

The best RV flag poles need to be portable, durable, and easy to use, which is why the Flagpole-To-Go Ultimate has become a favorite of so many of us.

This collapsible flagpole system extends up to a full 20 feet, allowing you to proudly fly two flags up to 3′ x 5′ size. But the real magic is in how compact it becomes for travel and storage.

Setting it up is a breeze. Simply wrap the base bracket around your trailer tire or extend the tongue jack for a sturdy mount. Then, loosen the clamps and raise each segment until your flag catches the wind. The adjustable clips make flying two flags at different heights possible too.

The pole can sway a little in strong gusts but I’ve never once worried about breakage. Just make sure to tighten each section fully before extending to the next. The one downside I’ve noticed is that after getting soaked in a rainstorm, the locking mechanism can be stubborn to release; it just takes some muscle.

  • Extends up to 20 feet for visibility
  • The pole collapses down to small size
  • Lightweight and easily transportable
  • Adjustable clips to fly 1-2 flags
  • Locking mechanism may stick after rain
  • Pole has some flex in very strong winds

The EEZ Pole Mount is a high-quality RV ladder mount flag pole. We wanted an easy way to mount my Starlink antenna to the ladder on my RV and it provided the ideal solution.

Made of sturdy machined aluminum, it securely clamps a pole without any wiggle or movement. The adjustable wing screws allow a custom fit to ladders of different sizes, and rubber caps inside prevent scraping.

Installation of this RV ladder flag pole was a breeze. In just a few minutes, we had the pole mounted solidly to the side of our ladder. The dual brackets provide incredible stability, so we don’t worry about our antenna coming loose even during windy conditions.

Now, this mount isn’t perfect and the price is definitely on the high side. But considering how well it does the job, I think it’s worth it for the peace of mind.

  • Securely clamps pole in place without movement
  • Adjusts to fit different sized ladders
  • Dual brackets provide stability in wind
  • Positions pole neatly against RV for travel
  • Somewhat expensive
  • Rubber caps may need trimming for different poles

This RV flag pole mount hits all the right marks for quality and durability. It’s made from sturdy stainless steel with precision craftsmanship. We were impressed by how steady and stable it holds our flag pole, even in strong winds.

The adjustable locking nuts let you securely position the flagpole at just the right angle. We like the options for choosing between a 90 degree setting and a 45 degree wave. It fits poles up to 1-inch too, so you’ve got options.

Installation is simple, even for us non-handy types. All the hardware comes included, plus a drill bit, so you can mount it easily to wood, concrete, or our aluminum RV siding.

We will say, the included screws might not be the best choice for heavier duty mounts, like on an RV in a windy climate. It’s probably a good idea to upgrade to higher quality screws from the hardware store.

  • Sturdy stainless steel construction
  • Adjustable for different pole angles
  • Easy, quick installation
  • Included screws may not be best for heavy-duty use

After putting the Yescom telescopic flag pole to the test, we think it’s one of the best RV flag poles available.

The aluminum pole collapses down to a compact size that fits easily in our storage compartments. But when extended, it gives us an impressive 25 feet of height. The twisting lock system between each section makes setup and takedown simple and quick with no extra tools needed.

Of course no product is perfect. On extremely windy days we’ve noticed the very top of the pole can experience a bit of sway. However, it always remained solidly standing thanks to that deep footing.

  • Lightweight and compact for storage
  • Quick and easy to set up/take down
  • Extended height of 25 feet for visibility
  • Durable aluminum construction
  • Locking mechanism for stability
  • Very top may sway slightly in strong winds
  • Locks can tighten further over time

Do RVs Come With Flagpoles?

While RVs offer many amenities and comforts, they rarely have flagpoles as a standard addition. Manufacturers consider flagpoles an aftermarket accessory, meaning they’re not included in the base price of the RV.

Some RVs might come with a pre-installed flagpole holder, a bracket, or a mount to hold a flagpole. If your RV has one, you’ll only need to purchase the flagpole and of course your flag of choice!

Where Do You Mount RV Flagpoles?

Understanding where to mount an RV flagpole is vital. You want maximum visibility, stability, and want to prevent any potential damage to your RV.

  • Rear ladder: This is one of the most common places to mount an RV flagpole. It’s easy to install, doesn’t interfere with the operation of your RV, and provides excellent visibility.
  • Hitch mount: A hitch mount allows you to use the trailer hitch on your RV. This option is very stable and requires no drilling.
  • Under tires: Some RV owners prefer to use a mount placed under one of the vehicle’s tires to secure the base and mount their flagpoles for stability.
  • Suction cup/bolted holder: If you prefer not to attach anything to your roof or hitch, consider a suction cup or bolted holder on the side of your RV.
  • Attach to grab handles: This is another easy and non-invasive method. You can attach the flagpole to the existing grab handles beside the RV doors.

Are You Allowed To Have Flags At Campgrounds?

Are You Allowed To Have Flags At Campgrounds?

Yes, you are generally allowed to have flags at campgrounds as they can add a festive ambiance. However, they should not be offensive and must respect flag etiquette.

Some campgrounds may restrict certain flags or size limits. It’s always a good idea to check with the campground if you need clarification.

Can You Drive With Your Flagpole Up?

While some sources advise against driving with a flagpole attached to your RV, others suggest you can do it with certain precautions.

The height of the flagpole must be within limits, and it should not obstruct your view while driving. Be aware that local laws and regulations may vary, so check with the state you’re traveling through.

Can You Make Your Own Flagpole?

Yes, of course, you can make a flagpole for your RV.  All you need is a sturdy pipe, a secure mount, and a flag clip to keep your flag waving in the breeze.

Just be sure to take the time to ensure you firmly attach the flagpole so that it doesn’t damage your RV.

A large flag on a windy day catches a lot of wind that can put some real strain on the mount. Ladder mounted and under-tire applications are usually not an issue. However, anything mounted to the RV itself needs to be strong!

Final Thoughts About RV Flagpoles

RV flagpoles are a fantastic way to express your personality. They allow you to show off your affiliations while on the road and add fun and festivity to your travels.

Displaying a flag can also spark a conversation with fellow travelers, fostering community wherever you park.

With the right flagpole, you can ensure your flag flies high and proud without worrying about it getting damaged by the elements. The 12 best options we’ve discussed offer a range of features to suit different needs. From durability and height to ease of installation.

Choosing the right RV flagpole is not just about functionality but also about enhancing the overall aesthetic of your RV.

It’s a minor detail that can significantly elevate your camping experience, making each trip memorable and unique.

I’m surprised that you didn’t include any links to prices and sources.

I firmly believe that whenever you are in another country that you should fly both your country and the country you are visiting in the proper etiquette manner. Showing we are both equal.

Thank You Ron K.

While your suggestions are good (and I do own a couple of the poles mentioned, I believe Uncommon USA should be included. https://www.uncommonflagpoles.com/flagpoles/the-original-telescoping-flagpole/ I have used one for 20 years or so and it lives outside all the time. I use the wheel stand mount https://www.uncommonflagpoles.com/aluminum-flagpole-wheel-stand-rv-stand/ I also use it for antenna mounting, and the lightweight poles wouldn’t stand a chance with them.

I wanted to post a picture, but I guess that isn’t possible.

Taking an American road trip is a quintessential experience, and there's no better way to show your patriotism than by flying the Stars and Stripes high! A good quality RV flag pole is essential for this.

What you'll find...

No matter which state you're from showing off the good old US flag is the best way to show your patriotism, but of course not all flag poles for RV marking territory were created equally.

If you want a top of the line RV flagpole, then you need to look for something that's durable enough to withstand wind and weather, while also being light enough and easy to set up and take down. You'll also want to consider the size and weight of the flag pole, especially if you're planning on taking it with you on your travels.

Whether you're looking for something lightweight and portable or a heavy-duty option that will keep your stars and stripes flying high no matter the weather, we've got you covered in our review of the best flag poles.

flags for travel trailers

  • You’ll get everything you need for installation
  • Fiberglass material will survive high winds and any falling debris
  • Might bend if it is extended to its maximum during high winds

If you like to fly your flag really high you might need some help with your RV ladder. This flagpole buddy attaches to the back of your RV ladders, and allows you to fly your flag on camp or even on the road.

The RV flag pole comes with everything you need for a safe, secure, and simple installation, and with it attaching to your ladders, it's a secure fix. It's made from highly durable fiberglass material, making it super flexible, and suitable in high winds. So don't worry about driving like a snail.

Another key feature with this RV flagpole is that it can raise the flag up to 22 feet, an impressive height I must say. To adjust the height, all you have to do is twist until you get your desired height and then lock it.

Bottom Line

This is the best RV flag pole in our opinion. It has many cool benefits like being secure, fairly easy to adjust with the simple twist and lock height system.

It's also 22 ft high and made of fiberglass, which can withstand nature's venom, and will save you money on having to get another. The installation process is made easy for you as you’ll be provided with all the support products to keep it secure.

  • Has one of the best extension options
  • Five-year warranty in case of damages
  • Easy to set up and as lightweight material
  • Material is too light and could be damaged during high winds

This RV flag and pole kit high on our list and boasts many decent qualities. For starters, the flag pole is made with polycarbonate, which is a highly durable plastic and also fairly lightweight. It can reach up to 21 feet which will definitely allow you to mark your territory.

The the 3x5 nylon sewn USA flag that comes with it can be raised/lowered using a pulley system, which is far easier than adjusting the entire pole itself. It might also take you back to your school days when you were chosen to raise the Stars and Stripes.

With this pole, the flag will be secure as it’s attached with two locking nylon clips, ensuring it has little to no chance of flying away during high winds. To make the product stand out, you’ll also get a gold anodized aluminum ball with your kit, and if non of the above is enough to convince you, you'll get a five-year warranty attached.

This RV flag pole is high on our list for a reason. It has some great features, such as great length, and it's lightweight and easy to set up. It will withstand pretty much all weather and you'll have an RV flag pole for many years to come.

The sownsides to this RV flag pole is really the aluminum. While it's a good quality material, fiberglass is better. The mount also has to be perfectly secure under your wheel, otherwise it might fall over during high winds.

Benefits of Getting a New RV Flagpole

As well as showing your national pride, there are a few benefits to getting a new flagpole.

If you’ve ever gotten a flagpole that came with your RV, chances are it didn’t have adequate protection to continue looking brand new for years to come. By upgrading to a new flagpole for your future road trips, you won't need to worry about rust or corrosion even years after purchase.

Less Maintenance

Similar to the last point, there are plenty of protective features on a modern, top-of-the-line flagpole. If your pole  uses a protective coating  that limits any damage from rust, corrosion, or discoloration from UV rays, you’ll have no problem maintaining the flagpole.

Show Some Support

As already mentioned, the whole idea of getting a flagpole is to show support for your country, state, football team, or whatever makes you proud. With a decent-sized RV flag pole, you’ll be able to use any flags you want on it and not worry about any damage from the wind, as it should be made from the best materials.

How to Choose a Flag Pole for Your RV

You’d be surprised the amount of research needed to find a decent flagpole. Surprisingly, there are plenty of considerations and features to look for when choosing your next flag pole for RV territory marking. The following section will discuss these features and qualities in more detail.

The materials used in the construction of any product is really important and this grows tenfold if it's being used outside. Speaking in terms of RV flag poles, there are a range of materials used such as fiberglass, steel, aluminum, plastic, and most other alloy metals.

You’ll find that steel versions are a lot heavier, but a lot stronger. Aluminum and plastic are easy to store away and are quite light. However, the best material for an RV flag pole is fiberglass, because it boasts a mixture of the best features from each of the other materials.

The length that your flag pole can extend to is also just as important. The whole reason you have it with you is to show off your support and you can’t do that with a pole that doesn’t reach very high.

You also don’t want one that's too high as it’ll probably break from hitting trees or bridges. The average height of an RV flag pole is around 15 feet.

People Also Ask - Flag Poles for RV Patriotism FAQs

Along with the information provided in this article, there are a few additional questions that people usually ask. So we’ve answered some of the most common questions to make things easier. We hope this helps.

How to Tie a Flagpole Knot

Tying a tight flagpole knot is very simple and you can do it with the help of the following steps:

  • Use a lighter flame to burn the ends of the rope. This will soften the ends. Use your fingers to pinch the ends. This will seal the fibers and prevent any fraying.
  • Bring the two ends of the rope together.
  • Leave about one-foot of rope and cross the rope with one end going into the right and the other end going into the left.
  • On the right, make two loops. then take the loose end and pull it through the loops, making sure that it is tight.
  • Do the same on the other side.
  • Next, pull the rope on both sides to slide the knots close together.

This method provides the pressure needed to make sure that the knots do not come undone regardless of what the wind does to your flag.

How to Fix Twist Lock on Telescoping Flagpole

Fixing the twist lock on a telescoping flagpole is very simple. Pull the pole apart and remove the small clip inside. Push the clip off and open it as wide as you can. Put the clip back in again and slide in the outer part of the pole. Your pole will work as good as new.

How to Mount Flagpole to RV Without a Ladder

If you want to mount a flagpole without a ladder, you can use the hitching method where a prefabricated metal tube is welded onto the hitch itself. This is installed at the back of the RV and serves as a base for your flagpole.

Another way to mount your flagpole is the tire mount which is a very simple method. In this mount, the pole is attached to a flat panel that is held up with the weight of your parked RV. This flat platform provides stability and balance to the flagpole. Moreover, it is very easy to take down.

How Much Rope Do You Need For an RV Flagpole?

When choosing the rope length for your RV flagpole, make sure that you use double the above-ground length of the flagpole. This will ensure that you have an extra rope to tie knots and wrap the halyard around the cleat if it is mounted at eye level.

What is the Ball on Top of a Flagpole Called?

The ball at the top of the flagpole is commonly known as a truck. However, the correct term would be finial. This ball is made of two curved aluminum pieces welded together. The main purpose of this ball is decoration.

How Much Does a Flagpole Cost For an RV?

A flagpole does not usually cost much. You can get a good-quality flagpole for as low as $8 to around $30. However, if you invest in a flagpole kit, it is going to cost a little more. The price of a flagpole kit ranges from $50 to around $180.

How to String a Flagpole

Cut a length of rope to make a rope halyard. Make sure that the rope is long enough to pass through the flagpole top and extend up to two feet below the tying cleat. Secure the flag with this rope halyard with the help of clips. Tying the flag securely will make your flag fly strong and proud.

Lots of factors affect the aesthetics of RVs and the flag pole is one of the most overlooked ones. Flags flying proudly in the wind would add a nice touch to the rig appearance but that is only achievable by owning solid flag poles. Hence, if you often hit the road displaying your favorite flag, it’s a good idea to outfit your rig with the right flag pole.

Flag poles for recreational vehicles come in all sizes and shapes so RV campers have plenty of options. Nonetheless, without having a firm grasp on what to look for, getting a suitable RV flag pole may be difficult.

Simply put, an RV flag pole is a pole designed from the ground up to hoist flags on recreational vehicles. Depending on the RVers, flag poles could be used to display the flags of numerous entities from countries to organizations. Besides that, in times of need, it’s possible to use flag poles of RV for business purposes as well.

Generally, different flag poles have different characteristics but regarding the operation of flag poles for recreational vehicles, three categories exist

Internal Halyard : In flag poles with the internal halyard system, the mechanism stays inside the poles which is accessible via a door at the bottom. Thanks to the sealed construction, outdoor elements rarely cause problems to the raising and lowering of flags on the road. Moreover, since the rope is well-hidden, the internal halyard flag poles present a streamlined profile that adds to aesthetics.

External Halyard : Possessing an exposed mechanism that is ready for use, flag poles with the internal halyard system adapt marvelously to a diversity of situations. At any time, enthusiasts of RVing could apply adjustments to the orientation of the flags. Owing to the ease of use, many RVers from novices to veterans hold external halyard flag poles in high esteem.

Simple Station : Instead of ropes, simple station flag poles use a combination of hooks and clips to hold down flags. For owners of recreational vehicles that have a hard time operating ropes by themselves, flag poles with the simple station system tend to be favored.

Convenience : Unlike its household counterpart, an RV flag pole could be positioned and secured in a blink of an eye. That is a big plus for owners of recreational vehicles that have a tight schedule.

Identification : With distinct flags flying on top of the flag pole, your rig would stand out from the surrounding vehicles. As a result, you should be able to recognize the location of your RV in crowded campsites with relative ease.

Expression : By attaching a camper flag pole to your vehicle, you could display whatever flag you prefer and that facilitates the communication of allegiance, belief, …

While the number of flag poles for recreational vehicles seems kind of overwhelming, the market features only three types of products: aluminum, fiberglass and PVC.

  • Aluminum : Packing sublime resistance against corrosive elements, aluminum is regarded as the material of choice for rust-resistant flag poles. Also, flag poles made from aluminum feature stylish finish so they fit the theme of a wide range of rigs.

Note : Some of the most prominent poles to use aluminum happen to be the telescoping poles . Capable of changing height at short notice, telescoping flag poles have fantastic versatility which let them meet an assortment of demands from RVing enthusiasts. The moment people decide to stop for the night, poles of the type could be extended and when it’s time to head out again, they take seconds to retract.

  • Fiberglass : Thanks to its high endurance, fiberglass is able to deal with  heavy wind without bending as time passes by. Until the day they break, fiberglass flag poles need minimal care from users so they receive compliments from busy RVers.
  • PVC : Compared to other materials used in RV flag poles, PVC is light which leads to tip-top handling characteristics. Needless to say, it takes moments to position and secure flag poles that incorporate PVC.

For your information, flag poles cannot stand on their own so once you pick up a trailer flag pole , you must think about pole holders. For standard RV flag poles, you have a total of three options for the holder

Hitch Mount: Easy to use and simple to manipulate, hitch mount proves to be popular among no-nonsense owners of recreational vehicles. That being said, the maximum height of flags offered by hitch mount is often mediocre.

Ladder Mount: With the ability to keep flags flying high above recreational vehicles, ladder mount is the holder of choice for people that care about flag height. Your rig needs to have a ladder on the back to use ladder mount though.

Tire Mount: Hitch mount and ladder mount don’t match your requirements? In that case, there is a very good chance that you would like tire mount. Tire mount takes advantage of the weight of your rig to fix flag poles, therefore, it top-notch terrific stability.

Camco Flagpole is great. The flagpole can extend up to a staggering 20 feet in the air. When you are ready to go back home, it can collapse to just 64 inches in length. Furthermore, it is quite affordable.

Flagpole-To-Go is also great. This collapsible flagpole can be set to stand at 4’ up to 17’. I love the fact that it comes with adjustable clips

Camco flag pole has standard 2 inch PVC pipe that fits perfectly. I installed two steel eyelets and connected them to the grommets of the flag with chain eyelets. I have driven this at 70 mph for over 40 minutes, no issues. This was an easy project, with no permanent modifications, and not expensive compared to some of the other products around.

Specifications Definitions

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) – is the maximum permissible weight, including cargo, fluids, optional equipment and accessories that can be safely supported by a combination of all axles.

UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight)* - is the typical weight of the unit as manufactured at the factory. It includes all weight at the unit’s axle(s) and tongue or pin and LP Gas. The UVW does not include cargo, fresh potable water, additional optional equipment or dealer installed accessories. *Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity)** - is the amount of weight available for fresh potable water, cargo, additional optional equipment and accessories. CCC is equal to GVWR minus UVW. Available CCC should accommodate fresh potable water (8.3 lbs per gallon). Before filling the fresh water tank, empty the black and gray tanks to provide for more cargo capacity. **Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

Each Forest River RV is weighed at the manufacturing facility prior to shipping. A label identifying the unloaded vehicle weight of the actual unit and the cargo carrying capacity is applied to every Forest River RV prior to leaving our facilities.

The load capacity of your unit is designated by weight, not by volume, so you cannot necessarily use all available space when loading your unit.
