It has been a bit of a losing struggle trying to stay on top of the new found clutter when our home welcomed our first child, Michael.

He recently started sitting at the table with us and eating solids, and we soon found that our table was constantly occupied with toys, bibs, and other randomness.

I was originally planning to install some simple rails for a TROFAST storage box that I had lying around, but soon realized that it was a perfect fit for the pre-slotted rails in the chair. There are larger capacity TROFAST boxes, but I think it could possibly flex out of the rails if they are overloaded. You can also purchase the additional finger hole lids to keep spills out of the boxes.

The Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair, while expensive as a new purchase , is quite affordable second hand and maintains its resale once your children outgrow it. It is also made from beech wood without much plastic which means that this is begging for more IKEA hacks ! You can have more fun with these chairs by color matching/contrasting the assortment of TROFAST colors to the Stokke Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair colors.

This worked very well on our old tripptrapp (pre 2003), but not on the newer one.

This hack did not work for me 🙁 The boxes are slightly too small and fall out of the ggrooves.

This hack does not realy work on our Tripp Trapp. The box is slightly to small. I fixed it with some duct tape. Perhaps Ikea or Stokke changed dimensions.

Wij hebben nogal een driftige peuter met een sterk willetje in huis. En eigenlijk is het altijd zo geweest. De eetstoel is niet Ella’s favoriete plek (en eten ook niet haar favoriete bezigheid ). Als we haar er al in krijgen – met heel veel overtuigingskracht – duurt het niet lang voor ze er uit wil. Meestal heb ik dan net mijn bord vol geschept. Om familietijd aan tafel wat te rekken, tover ik regelmatig snel de kleurtjes en een schrift tevoorschijn. Maar onze eettafel is niet zo groot. Het tekengerief lag allemaal nogal in de weg.

Handig voor kleine speeltjes, tekenspullen, slabbetjes of wasbare snoetenpoetsers. Ik kan de kleurtjes binnen de seconde op tafel krijgen en achteraf ligt alles zo weer uit het zicht. Yes!

As someone who's been in the parenting space for over a decade, I'm very familiar with the Stokke Tripp Trapp wooden high chair . It's a perennial favorite for its combination of utility and style — and one of my favorite high chairs I've ever tested. It's easily the most durable high chair on the market, and it's one that grows with your child. You can use it from the time your baby is first eating solids until they're doing their homework at the kitchen table.

Recently, they've updated it, adding a baby seat and an improved harness and cushion that has transformed it from an old favorite to a hot, new item. It extends the use even further, allowing for reclined eating for babies, a more stable seat for infants, and it makes the original seat even easier for parents to use. It's not just gilding a lily either. They've put real thought into this product and it shows.

Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair

The Original Design

Originally designed in 1972 by Peter Opsvik, the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair started out as a chair for babies aged 6 months and up, with the ability to adjust the height of the seat and the footplate (or remove the footplate altogether) to accommodate children up to age 4 . It sat right up to the table, allowing for easy mealtime or a workspace for older kids. It was made of durable, sustainable European beech and oak hardwood, with eco-friendly finishes and hardware that lasts.

At the time, most high chairs were pretty restrictive and set baby far away from the table. Opsvik's design allowed the baby to eat with the family and become a part of the unit much more quickly. Also, it made feeding your baby and child so much simpler. Unlike wooden high chairs with attached trays, it was also really simple to clean — revolutionary for the time.

The Upgrade

The Stokke Trip Trapp now comes with a blown-plastic baby seat that holds babies 6 months and older in a more upright and contained position. The seat has an upgraded harness and cushion that's easier to adjust and keeps the baby in the proper position for more easily — making mealtime easier for parents and more enjoyable for babies.

On top of that, they also sell a ton of accessories for the Tripp Trapp ranging from a baby seat that allows you to feed a baby at the table in a lying-down position, a tray for the high chair that allows it to function even without a table (and minimizes the risk that the baby kicks off from the table and falls over), as well as a ton of cushions in gorgeous colorways that didn't exist in previous models.

Why You Need It

There are a lot of reasons to love this high chair. First, it's not wildly pricier than other high chairs, and you'll get a ton of use out of it. We used this high chair with my daughter for years, and after (happily) handing it off to friends who were having a baby, it looked almost as good the day we handed it down as it did the day we got it. (Minus where my daughter stamped it with cat stickers.) We loved using this high chair when she was a toddler, which allowed her to sit at the table with us for family meals. It truly made our treasured family time at dinner feel more cohesive and helped us to make sure she was really eating the food we gave her and not just dropping it on the floor for our dog.

The new version is just as wonderful, but now so much easier to use because of the added plastic seat and harness. There are no wibbly, wobbly babies in that seat — just secure little ones ready to eat. Also, having had the great good fortune of having tested this and having been able to really dig into it, I can tell you that the material on the seat, even though it is machine-washable, feels luxe and plush, not like the plasticky fabrics of the past. It's just all-around much improved.

Aside from its utility, I also love how durable it is. We constantly cleaned it with baby wipes, Lysol wipes, all-purpose spray, and whatever else was handy, and it always came out swinging. Now, having seen and interacted with the new seats and accessories available, I am even more amped to gift this to new parents. My only issue with the base model was that if your baby was especially wiggly or if they were on the smaller side, it wasn't as secure as it could be. The new seat insert with harness changes all of that. Now, baby is really secure in the seat, and you're not going to worry if they're going to wiggle out of it. The tray is dishwasher safe, making for even easier cleaning, and the fabrics are machine washable.

What I Don't Love

Honestly, it is on the heavier side, and it doesn't collapse, so it's not the best for people who need a high chair they can travel with or easily move from room to room. It's a super modern Scandinavian design, which is gorgeous and chic, but it doesn't always pair well with more traditionally styled homes. The wood colors are wonderful but limited. Still, these are fairly petty quibbles for an exceptional piece of furniture.

The Wrap Up

It's incredibly useful and dynamic, giving parents a ton of adjustability and ease. De low-budget Ikea hack Trofast opbergbak onder Stokke Tripp Trapp is de perfecte oplossing om de spullen van je kind altijd binnen handbereik te hebben.

In de afgelopen dagen gaf ik Chloe’s Tripp Trapp een make over . We gebruiken onze chair for life al 4 jaar. En we gebruiken hem intensief. Met de Tripp Trapp new born set kon Chloé hem al vanaf een paar weken gebruiken. En toen ze daar naar een aantal maanden uitgegroeid was, kwam er een Baby set .

Nu ze niet meer in het zitje past, vond ik het tijd voor een make-over. Haar stoel was echt een beetje vies geworden en kon wel weer een schoon likje verf gebruiken. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan. Dus paste ik ook maar meteen de beroemde Ikea Trofast hack voor de Stokke Tripp Trapp toe.

Met het oog op dat ze steeds zelfstandiger wordt en graag zelf dingen doet. Dus ook haar eigen bestek, beker, bordjes en eetschort wil ze zelf pakken en op tafel zetten. Hoewel de Tripp Trapp Storage de nodige opbergruimte biedt, vind ik deze opbergruimte vooral geschikt voor een baby. Niet voor een kleuter die naast de vaste spullen ook nog zo haar eigen spulletjes in de opbergbak stopt. Daarom was de Ikea hack Trofast opbergbak onder Stokke Tripp Trapp een heel goed idee. Nu kan Chloé er helemaal zelf bij.

Zelfstandigheid stimuleren

Voor het eten pakt ze zelf haar spulletjes en zet ze op tafel. Dat hoef ik haar helemaal niet te vragen. Het enige wat ik hoef te doen is de bak aanvullen met het benodigde servies en zo nu en dan een schoon schort voor het eten. De bak past perfect onder het onderste plankje van je Stokke Tripp Trapp en je schuift hem er makkelijk weer terug in. Zelfs een kind kan het.

Leuke vraag. Voor Novan gebruik ik nu de Tripp Trapp Storage. En ik moet zeggen; er past minder in dat in de Trofast lade. Momenteel is dat nog niet erg omdat hij niet mee eet aan tafel. Maar mocht hij wel aan tafel gaan eten, dan denk ik dat ik ook een trofast bak onder zijn stoel vast maak. Daarin kan ik een eetschort, bordje en bestek kwijt. Nadeel vind ik soms wel dat de lade voor kleine kinderen lastig is om erin te schuiven. Dus ik denk dat ik voor hem een combinatie van beiden maak.

Chique gemaakt! De kids gebruiken elk een trip trap, eentje laten herschilderen, want toen ik er twee wou gaan kopen, lag ik omver van de prijs, dus 1 nieuwe en 1 gerenoveerde ;-) Maar er eigenlijk nog nooit bij stil gestaan dat ze wel eens zachter zouden kunnen zitten. Goh wat handig!Was net weer aan het uitmeten (kon mijn oude patroon niet meer vinden...), bedankt dat jij dat al voor me heb gedaan!! UPDATE 22nd Mar 2023 : The model has been updated to v4. A complete rework based on Tripp Trapp Trofast Clip (metal basket) . That model gave me the idea, that it's much better to mount the adapter directly on the chair instead of the box itself. I've recreated the model ensuring that it would fit the IKEA Trofast plastic storage box. Version 4 works much better compared to the earlier 3 iterations.

UPDATE 16th Jan 2023 : The model has been updated to v3. V2 was printed using PLA. As soon as I forced it into the grooves, it snapped several places. V3 is born and it seems it works perfectly now. Can be printed in both PLA and PETG (preferably).

UPDATE 16th Jan 2023 : The model has been updated to v2. While v1 was working, the box was falling out of the grooves when the chair was moved. V2 is longer and thicker ensuring a tight fit between the box and the chair. It will be a bit of a fight to get the box in the grooves as the adapter expands the box' width. But with time the box will take a new shape and everything will be perfect.

Tripp Trapp Stokke Chair is great. Why not also use it for some extra storage for anything baby related? The IKEA Trofast storage box (white, see image below) can be placed under the footplate allowing you to store wipes, bibs, baby entertainment, and whatnot.

Unfortunately, sometimes (depending on the model/age of the chair) the storage box is not wide enough (see image below) and it's therefore falling out of the grooves:

This 3D print is an adapter that solves this exact problem. You'll need 2 pieces (for both sides of the storage box).
