The Best Photos of the Royal Family at the South Korean State Banquet
King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and more royals were in their finest at Buckingham Palace this evening.
The royal family were dressed to the nines in their finest tuxes, gowns, and tiaras this evening at Buckingham Palace to host a state banquet in honor of President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon-hee of South Korea.
It's just the second state visit hosted by King Charles during his reign—the first was last November, welcoming South Africa's president Cyril Ramaphosa . State visits kick off with a state banquet, "a very grand formal occasion held in the Buckingham Palace Ballroom. Around 150 guests are usually invited on the basis of their cultural, diplomatic or economic links to the country being hosted."
For the evening, both Kate and Camilla wore spectacular tiaras—the Princess of Wales was in the Strathmore Rose tiara , which hasn't been seen in public for nearly a century, and the Queen was in the Burmese Ruby Tiara . Here, see all the best photos of the royal family attending the state banquet in honor of the 2023 South Korea state visit:

WATCH: Biden and King Charles meet for climate discussion during London visit
WINDSOR, England (AP) — President Joe Biden and King Charles III, aging leaders who’ve waited decades to reach the pinnacle of their careers, used their first meeting in their respective roles Monday to highlight the generational issue of climate change as they prod private companies to do more to bolster clean energy in developing countries.
The meticulously choreographed gathering at Windsor Castle injected substance into the type of encounter between president and monarch that historically has been more about the pomp and circumstance. After the arrival formalities, Biden and Charles participated in a climate-focused roundtable with officials from the financial and philanthropic sectors. John Kerry, the U.S. envoy on climate, attended.

The 74-year-old Charles, who was crowned in May , has already made the environment a significant part of his policy legacy and has long fought to protect wildlife and battle climate change. Biden, for his part, identified climate change as one of the four crises he was determined to confront as president. He signed a sweeping legislative package last year that includes nearly $375 billion in climate-related incentives.
Biden, 80, last had formal talks with Charles, then prince, at the COP26 U.N. climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, in November 2021. The U.S. president also attended the state funeral of Charles’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September as well as a reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace the night before the service. Biden did not attend Charles’s coronation, sending first lady Jill Biden instead.
Jake Sullivan, the White House national security adviser, said the president has “huge respect” for the king’s commitment on the climate issue in particular. He said Charles has been a “clarion voice” on climate and “someone who’s mobilized action and effort.”
“So the president comes at this with enormous goodwill,” Sullivan told reporters Sunday as Biden flew to London.
Biden and Charles made sure to show off their still-developing friendship and warmth during the ceremonial arrival at Windsor Castle, outside London. After they shook hands, Biden put his hand on Charles’s arm, then on the king’s back as they approached a viewing platform to inspect an honor guard. They appeared relaxed and cordial — a contrast to more formal encounters between past U.S. presidents and British royalty.
The views of the late Queen Elizabeth II on politics and political issues were a closely guarded secret, and her meetings with world leaders were almost entirely ceremonial. Charles spent his decades as heir to the throne expressing opinions on issues from architecture to the environment, and has continued to take a keen interest in climate change now that he is king. However, neither he nor Biden spoke publicly at Windsor Castle.
Biden’s royal visit was paired with his sixth meeting with the British prime minister since Rishi Sunak took office, The two discussed a range of global issues, including the war in Ukraine. Both nations are among the most stalwart defenders of Kyiv, and the United Kingdom has pushed the White House to take more aggressive steps in providing military aid to Ukraine.
Their talks were meant to highlight the so-called enduring “special relationship” between the U.S. and the U.K. When Biden declined to attend Charles’s coronation, he promised the king in a phone call that he would visit soon.
Before arriving at Windsor Castle, Biden sat down with Sunak at the prime minister’s residence at 10 Downing St. in London to discuss Ukraine and other matters, including the U.S. president’s decision this week to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions , a weapon that more than two-thirds of the members of the NATO military alliance have barred for their potential threat to civilian life.
Biden has said that providing the bombs — which open mid-air and release smaller “bomblets” across a broad swath of land — was a “difficult decision” but he noted that the Ukrainians are running out of ammunition and that the weapons were necessary for them to continue to fight Russian forces.
“It took me a while to be convinced to do it,” Biden said in a CNN interview broadcast as he flew to London. “But the main thing is, they either have the weapons to stop the Russians … from stopping the Ukrainian offensive through these areas, or they don’t. And I think they needed them.”
Sunak, for his part, has distanced himself from the U.S. decision. The prime minister’s spokesman said the leaders spoke Monday about Britain’s opposition to the use of cluster munitions.
“The first thing to say is this was a difficult choice for the U.S. that has been forced on them by Russia’s war of aggression,” said Sunak’s spokesman, Max Blain. “As the prime minister said over the weekend, the U.K. is a state party to the convention on cluster munitions. They discussed the commitments the U.K. has under that convention both not to produce or use cluster munitions and to discourage their use.”
The U.S. is not a party to that agreement. Sunak stressed over the weekend that Britain will “continue to do our part to support Ukraine against Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion, but we’ve done that by providing heavy battle tanks and most recently long-range weapons, and hopefully all countries can continue to support Ukraine.”
WATCH: Biden announces $600M in climate investments as 2024 campaign revs up
Sullivan also downplayed the disagreement over cluster munitions, saying, “I think you will find Prime Minister Sunak and President Biden on the same page strategically on Ukraine, in lockstep on the bigger picture of what we’re trying to accomplish and as united as ever — both in this conflict and writ large.”
And as the leaders met over tea in the 10 Downing St. garden on Monday, they continued to project that face of unity.
“We’ve only been meeting once a month,” Biden joked as he declared the relationship between the U.S. and U.K. was “rock solid.” Sunak added that their countries are “two of the firmest allies in that alliance.”
The prime minister’s office said the meeting offered a chance to monitor progress on measures and initiatives under the Atlantic Declaration, which the two leaders signed when Sunak visited the White House last month . The declaration includes negotiations over an agreement on critical minerals to support shared U.S. and U.K. leadership in green technology, the statement said.

Prince William and Kate's Royal Visit to Boston: Here's Everything We Know
The prince and princess of wales will arrive in the city on wednesday and depart on friday, by marc fortier • published november 29, 2022 • updated on november 29, 2022 at 11:49 pm.
Prince William and the Princess of Wales will be looking to focus attention on their Earthshot Prize for environmental innovators when they make their first visit to the United States in eight years this week , a trip clouded by tensions with William’s brother, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan, who have criticized Britain’s royal family in the American media.
William and his wife, Kate Middleton, will travel to Boston on Wednesday for three days of public engagements before announcing the prize winners on Friday in a ceremony headlined by pop star Billie Eilish.
Watch NBC10 Boston news for free, 24/7, wherever you are
Boston, birthplace of John F. Kennedy, was chosen to host the second annual prize ceremony because the late president’s 1962 “moonshot” speech inspired the prince and his partners to set a similar goal for finding solutions to climate change and other environmental problems by 2030. The first Earthshot Prizes were awarded last year in London just before the U.K. hosted the COP26 climate conference.

Here's everything you need to know about this week's royal visit:
What Is the Earthshot Prize?
The Earthshot prize was founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2020. It was inspired by and with a name echoing President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 challenge to America to land a man on the moon by that decade’s end, and aims to “discover and scale the best solutions to help repair our planet within the next decade,” according to a release.
Earthshot offers 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) in prize money to the winners of five separate categories: nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination and climate change. The winners and all 15 finalists also receive help in expanding their projects to meet global demand.
Among the finalists is a startup from Kenya that aims to provide cleaner-burning stoves to make cooking safer and reduce indoor air pollution. It was the brainchild of Charlot Magayi, who grew up in one of Nairobi’s largest slums and sold charcoal for fuel.
When her daughter was severely burned by a charcoal-fired stove in 2012, she developed a stove that uses a safer fuel made from a combination of charcoal, wood and sugarcane. The stoves cut costs for users, reduce toxic emissions and lower the risk of burns, Magayi says.
Other finalists include Fleather, a project in India that creates an alternative to leather out of floral waste; Hutan, an effort to protect orangutans in Malaysia; and SeaForester, which seeks to restore kelp forests that capture carbon and promote biodiversity.
The winners will be announced Friday at Boston’s MGM Music Hall as part of a glitzy show headlined by numerous celebrities. The ceremony will be broadcast Sunday on the BBC in the U.K., PBS in the U.S. and Multichoice across Africa.
Hollywood Descends on Boston
Numerous A-list celebrities are headed to Boston this week to join the Prince and Princess of Wales at the Earthshot Prize Awards.
Billie Eilish is among the singers who will take the stage at the MGM Music Hall in Fenway on Friday for the awards show, at which five people will receive $1 million for their environmental projects. Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek will be presenting one of the awards, along with Princess Catherine and other stars.
The awards show will be co-hosted by actor Daniel Dae Kim and British TV presenter Clara Amfo, which won't air in the U.S. until Monday.
Performing along with Eilish and her brother, Finneas, will be Annie Lennox, Chloe x Halle and Ellie Goulding, according to a news release. Other celebrities presenting awards include actors Catherine O’Hara and Shailene Woodley.
Sir David Attenborough, the naturalist and documentary filmmaker behind shows like "Planet Earth," will appear in the ceremony, and Prince William will give a speech closing out the show.
Royal Drama?
As much as the royals try to focus on the prize, William is likely to face questions about Harry and Meghan, who have criticized the royal family for racism and insensitive treatment in interviews with Oprah Winfrey and other U.S. media. The Netflix series “The Crown” has also resurrected some of the more troubled times of the House of Windsor just as the royal family tries to show that it remains relevant in modern, multicultural Britain following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
“You could say that the royal family, particularly as far as America is concerned, have had a bit of a bumpy ride of late,” said Joe Little, the managing editor of Majesty Magazine. “They’ve come in for huge amounts of criticism on the back of ‘The Crown’ and also the Oprah Winfrey interview, which has not particularly reflected well on the House of Windsor, so I think it’s a good opportunity whilst they’re in the U.S. … to sort of redress the balance if at all possible.’’
What Do the Royals Have Planned While in Boston?
Whatever those efforts are, they will take place in and around Boston, where William and Kate will remain for their entire visit.
The royal couple will keep the focus on environmental issues, meeting with local organizations responding to rising sea levels in Boston and visiting Greentown Labs in Somerville, an incubator hub where local entrepreneurs are working on projects to combat climate change.
But they will also address broader issues, using their star power to highlight the work of Chelsea's Roca Inc., which tries to improve the lives of young people by addressing issues such as racism, poverty and incarceration. They will also visit Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child, a leader on research into the long-term impact of early childhood experiences. The Harvard Center has a long relationship with The Royal Foundation and The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.
William and Kate will also meet with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu at an event that is open to the public at City Hall Plaza and visit the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library and Museum with the late president’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy.
“The prince and princess are looking forward to spending time in Boston, and to learning more about the issues that are affecting local people, as well as to celebrating the incredible climate solutions that will be spotlighted through the Earthshot Prize,” their Kensington Palace office said in a statement.

LIVE: King Charles and Camilla visit Greater Manchester - latest updates
The monarch is celebrating Bolton Town Hall's 150th anniversary as he visits Greater Manchester
- Updated 17:05, 20 JAN 2023
King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, held a series of royal engagements in Greater Manchester today. The royal couple visited Stretford, Wythenshawe, and Bolton to celebrate 150 years of the borough's town hall.
Their Majesties were greeted at the town hall by a civic line up including Mayor Coun Akhtar Zaman, leading councillors and local MPs. The King's visit to the borough marked the first time a reigning monarch has visited Bolton since 1988.
During their visit to the town, the King and Queen Consort were treated to a performance from the Polonez folk dance group. The pair then entered the town hall via the Hall of Memories, pausing to look at LS Lowry’s famous painting Going to the Match, which was inspired by Bolton Wanderers’ old Burnden Park ground.
Afterwards, they joined a reception in the main hall to meet representatives from several community groups including Bolton Asian Elders, Bolton Holiday Activities and Food Programme and Fortalice.
This was Charles' first visit to the region as King, but he held several notable engagements in Greater Manchester while he was still the Prince of Wales. On one occasion in 1997 he met up with the Spice Girls, while in December 2000 he attended the legendary set of Coronation Street.
Today's royal visit to Greater Manchester was be the King's second public engagement since the release of the Duke of Sussex’s controversial memoir Spare, containing a series of revelations about royal life, including the allegation that he and William told their father they would welcome Camilla into the family on the condition he did not marry her. Harry claims the brothers “begged” him not to do so but his father did not respond to their pleas. Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on any of the allegations made in the book.

- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's three-day visit to Nigeria kicked off on Friday , making them the latest members of the British royal family to visit the country.
Nigeria is former British colony; the country gained independence in 1960, but remains a member of the Commonwealth , a voluntary association of 56 countries. Following Queen Elizabeth's death in 2022, King Charles succeeded his mother as head of the organization. "It is my sincere wish that the Commonwealth will continue to offer stability and continuity for future generations and will decide that one day the Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949," Queen Elizabeth said in 2018. During her reign, Queen Elizabeth visited Nigeria twice—in 1956, when Nigeria was still a colony, and 2003, for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Thus far, King Charles has yet to visit in his capacity as head of the Commonwealth. He previously visited in 1990 with his then-wife, Princess Diana , and again in 1999, 2006, and 2018.
In chronological order, here are the best photos of British royals in Nigeria:
In 1956, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip undertook a royal tour of Nigeria.
On their trip, they went to Lagos, Calabar, Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Port Harcourt. Here, the royal couple is pictured speaking with Cheif Okosoi at a reception at Enugu

In 1960, Nigeria declared independence, and Princess Alexandra traveled to the country to represent Queen Elizabeth at the independence celebrations. Here, she reads the Queen's speech in Lagos.
In 1990, Princess Diana and Prince Charles undertook a royal visit of Nigeria.
Diana and Charles each carried out a number of engagements solo.

The King is too busy to see Prince Harry during his visit to the UK, the duke's spokesperson has said.
Harry is in London for an event celebrating 10 years of the Invictus Games.
It marks the first time the royal has been in the country since his rushed visit to see the King in February after the monarch's cancer diagnosis.
There had been press speculation that the pair would meet up again on his latest trip, but a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex has said the King is too busy to see his son.
"In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty's full programme," the spokesperson said.
"The duke of course is understanding of his father's diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon."
The King returned to public duties last week for the first time since his diagnosis for an unspecified form of cancer.

Buckingham Palace has said his diary will be carefully managed to minimise any risks to his health.
The palace has also said it would not comment on matters relating to Harry.
The monarch held an audience with the prime minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, at Buckingham Palace today as Harry was seen in the UK.
Earlier, a Sky News camera captured Prince Harry arriving at the Honourable Artillery Company's headquarters on the edge of the City of London for a one-day summit, called the Invictus Games Foundation Conversation.
The event is looking back over the decade-long history of the games which Harry founded in 2014 as a Paralympics-style sporting event for injured and sick military personnel and veterans.
It is taking place ahead of a ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday to mark the 10th anniversary of the games.
The ceremony will be the first major event Harry has attended in Britain for some time.
Harry hails legacy that 'transcends sports'
Speaking in a foreword at the summit taking place today ahead of the St Paul's service, Harry said: "It has been an honour to watch the Invictus Games Foundation grow over the years; what began as a vision to pay tribute to the courage and resilience of wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans, has flourished into an international organisation built on hope, strength, and unity."
The duke also wrote: "We are eager to celebrate the Invictus Spirit once again - exemplified in every single competitor, staff, friend and family member - your commitment, enthusiasm and belief, have been the driving force behind our continued success."
He added: "Together, we have created a legacy that transcends sports; a community that embraces compassion, respect, and the unyielding belief in the power of the human spirit. As we celebrate this milestone, let us recommit to the Invictus mission."

Hollywood star to feature at St Paul's service
It is not known if any other members of the Royal Family will be in attendance at the ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday.
British actor Damian Lewis is set to recite the Invictus poem during the service.
Representatives from across the Invictus Games participating nations, including members of the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veteran community, will also be in attendance.
Following his visit to Britain, Harry will be joined by his wife Meghan for a trip to Nigeria.
The Duke of Sussex served in the UK military himself for 10 years from 2005 and was deployed to Afghanistan on two occasions.
Harry was inspired to found the Invictus Games after attending the Warrior Games in Colorado in 2013 and seeing how injured American military personnel thrived on the challenge of taking part in competitive sports that aided their recovery.
He went on to stage the inaugural games in London's Olympic Park in 2014, followed by Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017 and Sydney 2018.
Harry has been living with Meghan in California since they quit their roles as senior working royals in March 2020.
The couple have two children together - Archie and Lilibet .
Harry has only visited the UK a few times since his decision to move to the US.
His latest trip comes after reports of a rift between himself and his brother William, the heir to the throne.
In a tell-all book published in January last year, Harry made several explosive claims about the royals - detailing fallouts with his family, including William.
Prince Harry 'relieved' when meeting public on UK visit after Royal Family snub
Prince Harry was "relieved" by the reaction he received from fans upon arrival in the UK, according to a body language expert.
Psychologist Judi James said that there was a clear change of emotion from the Duke of Sussex when the crowd outside St Paul's Cathedral cheered him.
Yesterday, the Prince attended a thanksgiving service at the venue for his Invictus Games charity which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Those awaiting his arrival cheered when he stepped out of the car.
Grinning, Harry shook hands with the hundreds of people stood outside as he made an impromptu walk about.
James said the royal's "body language announcement rituals" included "bending towards the crowd and hunching his shoulders to avoid giving the impression that this was a scheduled event".
She said Harry "stands away and leans in from a distance rather than making it more of a royal, immersive form of greeting and chatting".
“[His] lack of body engagement probably [gave] him the option of a face-saving exit if his reception [was] less than warm,” James told the MailOnline.
“Harry’s wreathed grin with eye crinkling suggests he might be excited and relieved to meet fans in the UK.”
The Duke of Sussex was joined at the Invictus celebration by lose relatives of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales and a mentor who supported him after her death.
Hundreds of others from the “Invictus family” were also in attendance.
The Prince is understood to have also invited other members of the Royal Family but none were present at the ceremony.
Yesterday King Charles was busy meeting guests at the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the year.
The monarch and his son have not met during Harry’s brief UK visit due to the King’s “full programme” said Harry’s spokesman in a statement.
There have been reports of issues of trust but the statement had a conciliatory tone and mentioned how the duke hoped to “see him soon”.
The spokesman said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.
“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
Auroras illuminate night skies around the world, expected to possibly continue through Monday
Night skies were lit up by the northern lights Friday in locations the auroras don't normally shine as a severe solar storm supercharged the phenomenon.
Photos taken from all over the world showed bright-colored skies lit up in hot pink, green and purple across Europe, in the United States and as far as New Zealand.
Friday’s storm was the first severe geomagnetic storm watch the agency had issued since 2005. Early on Saturday, the storm delivered, reaching intensity G5 on a 1-5 scale, making it the strongest storm to reach Earth’s atmosphere since October 2003’s “Halloween Storms,” said Bryan Brasher, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center spokesperson.
The center said activity with G4 to G5 intensity was likely to reach Earth again on Sunday.
Due to continued solar flares and eruptions from the sun , the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center said in a series of statements that the flares could trigger severe geomagnetic storms and "spectacular displays of aurora," possibly through Monday and beyond.
The geomagnetic field is expected to reach “severe storm levels” on Sunday, “active to severe storm levels” on Monday, and “unsettled to minor storm levels” on Tuesday, according to a center forecast released Saturday.
Brasher said geomagnetic storm activity was expected to continue. With the planet absorbing its impacts on a delayed timeframe, the visual effects could possibly stick around through Tuesday, he said.
“The region of the sun that’s the source of this weather has continued to be active,” Brasher said. “There is a chance for new events to occur based on that.”
The northern lights appear in the sky when charged particles spew from the sun during solar storms, making colorful light displays when clouds of those particles collide with Earth's magnetic field and interact with the atoms and molecules in Earth's upper atmosphere.
Typically, the northern lights are only seen in high latitudes, but during intense solar storms, like on Friday, they can be seen farther south than expected, with reports of sightings in Louisiana, Alabama , and Mississippi.
The cosmic show will likely follow this geomagnetic activity, according to the NOAA, which said that the ongoing storm has caused some reports of power grid issues.
NASA said Saturday that it had detected another sizable solar flare.
