A Luxury Guide to Dubai, The City of Gold
After lifting Covid-19 restrictions, the city is back on travelers' lists with plenty to do and see.
By Jessica Kelly
Glam, luxury and fashion meet the melting pot of the Middle East. With over 200 different cultures and a ton of expats, Dubai is nestled in the southeast of the Persian Gulf and has a luxurious reputation in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai, also known as the City of Gold, is even home to an entire souk devoted to selling gold. The modern architecture with buildings like the Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa makes the Dubai skyline a noteworthy one. After lifting Covid-19 restrictions, the city is now back on many travelers’ lists with plenty to do and see. In this travel guide, Elite Traveler takes a look at the diverse range of experiences to choose from in Dubai.
When planning your trip to Dubai, consider Emirates business class flights . It’s over a 12-hour flight from New York City , so comfort is essential. You’ll have access to the standup lounge bar, plenty of food, a top-tier wine list, cocktails and entertainment, and the service is impeccable. Once you arrive, they arrange airport transfers in Mercedes vehicles to your destination.
Jumeirah Beach Hotel
At the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, guests have views of the Persian Gulf, with private beach access and beautiful sea views from most of the rooms. Not only do guests get to take in beautiful views of the gulf, but incredible views of Burj Al Arab, too. The deep soaking tubs in the suites and the balcony overlooking the lit-up view of the Burj Al Arab in the evening is the perfect backdrop when you order prawn curry, naan bread and knafeh on the room service menu. For the romance package, the hotel fills the room with chocolates, a tub filled with bubbles and rose petals, a huge bouquet of red roses, champagne and more.

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab is easily one of the most iconic buildings in the city’s skyline, among being an architectural icon around the world. When people see the Burj Al Arab, they are reminded of top-tier Arabian luxury. Even the most basic rooms are incredible, but the top-tier suites are something to splurge on if you want to feel like royalty. The suites have attracted some of the highest names among celebrities and royalty, with the architecture reflecting the colorful unique designs throughout the Burj Al Arab.
The spa treatments at Talise Spa in the Burj Al Arab are something that just simply cannot be missed. The massage tables overlook the view of the skyline and the gulf. While waiting, guests are served tea and dates while relaxing by the infinity pool. Talise is also the only place to offer the “Leg King” Professor Francesco Canonaco’s wildly successful program that is said to cure cellulite, water retention and all vascular problems in the legs.

Atlantis caters to couples, adults and families, with so much to offer guests that they sometimes don’t even leave the hotel . There are a variety of romantic packages and luxury stays within Atlantis, including the notable underwater suites, among other prime suites with stunning waterfront views. The underwater suite is truly unbelievable. Guests can relax in bed, or soak in their deep tub while watching eagle rays, sharks, and schools of fish swim by. Bab al shams.
The design at Bab Al Shams consists of traditional Arab architecture / ©Jessica Kelly
Arriving at Bab Al Shams, it truly feels like a luxurious desert escape. The design consists of traditional Arab architecture, immersed in the desert with infinity pools overlooking the sand dunes and an extensive ecosystem filled with birds and gazelles, among other wildlife. The location provides an escape from the busy city life with a selection of activities for guests including desert exploration hikes, massages, horseback riding, archery, camel riding, falconry and more in between sunbathing or relaxing in your soaking tub in the bedroom.
The food is fantastic, with plenty of fresh-squeezed juices, coconut water, wraps and more. Pre-dinner cocktails at Al Sarab Rooftop Lounge are a must before heading out. If guests are lucky enough to be in Dubai during Ramadan, the hotel’s Iftar is outstanding, with a wide selection of traditional foods, live shows, music, tea, hookah and more. Since Covid-19, the shows are back and more lively than ever, and group activities are encouraged for guests.

The King Crab and homemade trenette pasta at SAL / ©Jessica Kelly
While visiting the Burj Al Arab, stop at SAL for a bite to eat before relaxing by the infinity pool over the Arabian Gulf. SAL serves a variety of Mediterranean dishes and fresh seafood, like the King Crab and homemade trenette pasta with bright green, fragrant fresh basil pesto, plump tomato, espelette chili and tangy balsamic or the light tomato gazpacho with capsicum, cucumber and crispy bread.
Dinner at Bastion is a must while staying at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel / ©Jessica Kelly
Dinner at Bastion is a must while staying at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The steakhouse offers views of the Burj Al Arab and serves delicious cuts like kiwami wagyu and rack of lamb, among other appetizers to share like foie gras, calamari, tableside steak tartare and more. In addition to the main courses, the restaurant offers an extensive wine list and knowledgeable staff waiting to suggest pairings. Don’t forget to stop for an after-dinner cocktail at Floor 24 at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Sometimes when visiting a place that already has frills like a waterfront view, the food tends to be just so-so. They don’t have to try as hard because crowds will continue to visit if the place has a good view. The Atmosphere overdid itself with this dining experience. Not only do you get incredible views being on the 122nd floor of the world’s tallest building, but there are incredible crepes, egg dishes with freshly shaved truffles, towers of fresh cheeses, meats, fruit and fresh-squeezed juices like mango and orange to choose from. Finish the meal with a golden coffee because everything in Dubai is coated in gold.

Cocktails at Nobu and Dinner at Ossiano
Chef Gregoire Berger shares his passion for food, art and flavors at Ossiano / ©Jessica Kelly
Nobu is a great spot within Atlantis to grab a drink before dinner and deserved a special mention in our travel guide to Dubai. It’s the perfect place to try out a new sake or a refreshing lychee martini. After drinks at Nobu, check in at Ossiano . The gourmet eatery is surrounded by tanks filled with 65,000 marine animals. Guests are dining, sipping their espresso martinis while watching the fish swim gracefully by. Throughout this experience, chef Gregoire Berger shares his passion for food, art and flavors he’s picked up through personal experiences, each dish coming with its own story.
Burj Khalifa
As far as activities go, our travel guide to Dubai would not be complete without mentioning Burj Khalifa. A staple in the skyline, the building reaches over 2716 feet and has 160 stories. It holds multiple world records including the tallest building in the world, having the highest number of stories in the world, having the highest outdoor observation deck in the world, and having the tallest service elevator in the world, among others.

Aura Skypool
Aura Skypool is the world’s tallest 360-degree infinity pool, with incredible views of the palm, the gulf, the skyline, and more. You can rent a chair and relax by the water. Take a dip while waiting for your fresh coconut water to be delivered to you in the sun. Don’t forget to order some delicious sushi or a refreshing cocktail at the onsite restaurant. They’re almost too pretty to drink. Almost.

Balloon Adventures Dubai
Taking a hot air balloon ride over the desert during sunrise is a once-in-a-lifetime experience / ©Jessica Kelly
Taking a hot air balloon ride over the desert during sunrise is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and one that we simply had to include in our luxury travel guide to Dubai. The ride is so peaceful and calm, riders barely even feel any movement. With other balloons floating by in the distance, riders will get to watch the sunrise over the desert from a bird’s eye view. The company is Dubai’s longest operating hot air balloon company with seasoned, professional pilots to safely lead the tour. When the balloon lands, vintage Land Rovers will bring guests to an extensive breakfast filled with local favorites.

Camel Rides

After breakfast mentioned above, as part of the Balloon Adventures experience, guests will have the opportunity to ride a camel. The camels will take riders for a short walk around the desert, only about 3 to 5 minutes or so, in between getting food at the camp, so guests can experience what it’s like before hopping back in the colorful Land Rovers.

Top notch video for the Armani Dubai Hotel, and for the entire review of Dubai’s luxury hotels in general. I am inspired to visit again Dubai, as I last visited in 1990 and 1991. Obviously, much has changed since then. I do offer one critique, though. At approximately 14:15, you capture yourself in the video as you pass the mirror in your hotel room. It’s a cinematography faux pas that is best avoided and detracts from the otherwise professionalism of your videos. Regardless, this video truly makes me want to return tot he Near East soon. Also, if it ever possible to review the luxury hotels of Seoul, South Korea, or the Business/First Class seating of Korean Air, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again for a wonderful video.
Hello, Great video! Curious if you had any thoughts about the Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort? Thanks, Mike

Dubai is one of the paradise on the earth.
In a world where one can choose to go or not go to a certain destination, this is one of them that I would pass!! Not that it isn’t beautiful but it isn’t a place for me to visit.
You hit the nail on the head by listing the Jumeirah Al Qsar! I loved staying there. The Friday brunch was superb! I’d also recommend Grosvenor House on the Marina..
Been this year in Al maha and Armani . Al maha- old, bad management, bad service, very local service, like a 2 star hotel . Armani- BEST ! Amazing design, service, food! Unbelievable good!
Our personal preference would be The Palace at One and Only Royal Mirage. The service, the architecture, the space on the beach, and the choice and standard of restaurants are excellent. But Al Maha was also excellent when we stayed. The Four Seasons Jumeirah, One and Only The Palm, and The Burj are also worthy of my top 5. What are your views on The Palace?
Just returned from Grosvenor House and what a lovely place. The staff there really made our stay. The Club Lounge is a nice place to relax with drinks and nibble. We have also stayed at The Four Seasons and The Park Hyatt. The service at Grosvenor House topped them both. Facilities at The Four Seasons are great, but the service was not up to the legendary status the brand is known for.
What about Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah?
Dubai never fails to amaze! Anyone that wants to visit and experience Dubai, Burj Al Arab is definitely a good choice. Thank you for sharing!
Dubai is the tourist place for the move and also for the adventure
Ive been to Dubai four times now four times now and every single time I’ve stayed in a Grosvenor House residence, its my favoured hotel in the world, it does not break the bank, is in a great location and the food is simply amazing. It is Marriott so the sister hotel (Royal Meridian) is also accessible, where you have a private beach and even more resteraunts, definitely a place to check out: it is higher rated on Tripadvisor than these hotels also!
Dubai is the tourist place for the move and also for the adventure And all the people also searching for Best hotel Dubai
This is a fantastic resource, thank you for sharing! I’m particularly interested in the more cultural experiences, such as the Jumeirah Mosque and the Dubai Museum.

Live Dubai's ultimate luxury experiences
Wed, October 6, 2021
Dubai is a luxury playground like no other, so here's a to-do list that's sure to impress.
Set sail on a private cruise
One of the expat community's favourite weekend activities (after brunch, of course) is cruising the sparkling waters of the Arabian Gulf by boat. Take it to the next level by booking a luxury yacht for a personalised tour around the city's shoreline for you and your friends. Xclusive Yachts offers a full crew and an open itinerary tailored to guests’ specifications. That's right, you can choose to have a luxury day relaxing in the sun with unbeatable views of Dubai’s skyline from off the coast, or have a special cruise for two that sets off at sunset.
Become a VIP shopper
Join the ultimate 'preferred customer' clique, offered only to The Dubai Mall’s most privileged clients. Perks include access to the exclusive mall lounge, valet parking, a porter service, invitations to special events and previews, and the opportunity to be transported around the mall in style. How do you make the cut? Spend more than AED100,000 at the mall and you can sign up for the exclusive membership. While you’re there, make sure to visit Level Shoes , an entire district where you can indulge your ultimate shoe shopping desires. Inside, you'll also find an in-house cobbler offering a formal shoe customisation service for men, plus a range of classic footwear that can be designed by hand to suit the wearer’s whims.
- Financial Centre Road, Downtown Dubai
Book a helicopter ride
In a rush or can’t be bothered travelling by road? There’s good reason why Dubai's five-star hotels come with their own helipads. Hotels such as the Burj Al Arab offer a helicopter service for guests wanting to spend a few days of indulgence, or those who simply want to pop in for high tea . Just book your sky-high travel arrangements through their concierge. Otherwise, you can also try HeliDubai – a VIP service, which is at your beck and call for transfers to hotels, golf courses or even the mall.
- Jumeirah Road - Umm Suqeim 3 - Dubai - United Arab Emirates
Stay in a designer suite
The stunning Bulgari Resort Dubai features a selection of premium suites and villas, each with designer interiors and luxe amenities . Heralding the Italian brand's first – and only – launch into the Middle East, the resort is a stylish addition to Dubai’s coastline. Tailored to Jumeirah Bay Island’s seahorse-shaped curves, this is one of the city’s most exclusive addresses. The resort has five dining spaces, private beach and pools, a stellar spa, and one of a kind yacht club, all surpassing even the highest expectations.
Admire polo play in Dubai
Known as the sport of kings, polo is a popular pastime in Dubai, where Arabia’s equestrian roots are still prevalent among royals and the like. There are several prestigious matches hosted at Desert Palm Resort during the polo season between October and April, with well-heeled guests soaking up the sun and the company. Get on the VIP list by checking out what's on the Dubai Calendar during your stay. Visitors can also get on the saddle themselves, and perfect their swing at the resort's polo club.
Get behind the wheel of a supercar
In a city where even the police force patrols in Lamborghinis, high-performance vehicles are a must-have accessory for socialites. Fit in by renting a supercar from companies such as E and S Luxury Car Rental, VIP Rent A Car, Paddock Luxury or Prestige Exotic Car Rental, which features top-of-the-line Ferraris, Maseratis and more. Watch the high-rises whiz by in your rearview as you take a drive down Dubai’s famous Sheikh Zayed Road, or cruise along Jumeirah Beach Residences and Downtown Dubai. It's time to see and be seen.
Tea time with a twist
Discover Dubai’s take on a quintessentially British pastime with high tea experiences. When it comes to luxury, none quite match up to the offering – or the stunning Ottoman-inspired atmosphere – of the Sultan’s Lounge at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on The Palm. Sip your tea on the hotel’s beautiful outdoor terrace, or in the warmer months, enjoy the breathtaking atmosphere inside this picturesque resort. If you’re craving something sweet, stop by the hotel’s famous kiosk for an authentic Turkish ice cream.
Golf at a championship course
Tee off at the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course , and follow in the footsteps of golfing greats such as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Ernie Els. Widely recognised as one of the most challenging and rewarding rounds of the European Tour, the 18-hole course’s meandering fairways are must-plays for any golfer worth their mettle. Designed by Karl Litten, it is the first grass course in the Middle East and plays host to the annual Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
- Al Naseem Street, Al Thanyah 3
Check-in to history
One of the world’s most famous cruise liners, the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), has been given a new lease of life in Dubai. Permanently stationed at Mina Rashid, the QE2 has been transformed into a 13-deck floating hotel, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nostalgia. Carefully restored rooms and suites maintain many of the original features, including statement period furniture. There are also several restaurants and lounges to enjoy, and an interactive museum to explore.
- Mina Rashid, Dubai, UAE
Enjoy the city's best sights
Enjoy unbeatable panoramas of Dubai's coastal sights and glittering skyline from The Dubai Balloon, a tethered helium balloon which takes guests to heights of up to 300 metres. During your 10-minute trip into the sky, you’ll get the best possible view of the Palm, and be able to see the full extent of this man-made marvel. On a clear day, you can even see as far as the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai .

Our Luxury Travel Guide: Dubai
A city full of contrasts, Dubai is a city where a traveler could choose from many options. There’s the glittering skyline, made up of skyscrapers so tall they defy imagination; the modern collection of stores and eateries, and the luxurious hotels, luxury rentals , ready to welcome even the most discerning traveler in style and excess.
Then there’s the desert with its rolling hills of sand stamped with the footprints of Arabian oryx and gazelles; the souks with their labyrinth of stalls, bins overflowing with a rainbow of spices, the scent filling the air; and the traditional abra boats ferrying riders across the Dubai Creek.
The city has sprouted up from its desert port beginnings to become a sprawling metropolis full of vibrant neighborhoods, record-setting buildings, and over-the-top shopping centers all in the last several decades (excavation work on the famous Burj Khalifa didn’t even begin until January 2004).
Table of Contents
The weather in Dubai is hot throughout the year, but the months between end of September to March/April are the best times to visit with average temperatures hovering in the high 70’s and low 80’s in December. Those who love to pack a sweater are in luck too as early mornings and evenings in the desert tend to be much cooler and air conditioning is plentiful throughout Dubai.
HOW TO GET THERE:
Book your private jet 🙂
When you book your jet charter through ONEflight International , they will set you up with the choice of helicopter or luxurious aircraft to whisk your guests off to whatever location you choose. The choice is yours when it comes to the perfect aircraft to use for your business or private guests. With just a few questions regarding the number of guests and the type of trip you are planning, we can help you select the right travel arrangements.
WHERE TO STAY:
The marina & jumeirah beach residence (jbr).
It is considered one of the newest neighborhood of Dubai Marina, and JBR is the most Westernized area in the city. A nice walkable location in Dubai, probably one of the best ones.
JBR refers to the beach, the promenade and all the buildings which are in the first line. The Marina is everything behind there, including the tallest skyscrapers and the canal.
Most European expats choose to live here, as it is the easiest place to live in, with plenty of bar options and no strict restrictions, like the way women dress at the beach, for example.
Not an appealing place where to stay during your your vacation in Dubai, since it is the functional neighborhood of Dubai.
Besides wandering around the Mall of the Emirates (the second most famous mall) to see the Ski Resort, tourists don’t have much to do here.
On the other hand, however, there are quite a few expats living here, basically, because it is very well-connected to the metro, is close to both Marina and Downtown and you can save a few hundred of dollars rent per month.
Moreover, it has everything you may need, from a Carrefour to many types of shops and some really good local restaurants, from Arabic to great Indian and Pakistanis, so Al-Barsha is actually a great place to stay.
Considered the best location where to stay in Dubai. With some of the tallest skyscrapers, including the Burj Khalifa, the most luxurious shops, fancy boulevards, and the most glamorous clubs and fine-dining restaurants, Downtown is the reason why Dubai is famous.
Whether you want to go to the top of Burj Khalifa, shop in the world’s largest mall or just check out the fountain show, all tourists come here at some point during their trip.

Palm Jumeirah
Palm Jumeirah (or The Palm) is one of Dubai’s most remarkable landmarks.
It’s basically a palm-shaped island which is attached to Dubai’s mainland. It is actually huge, with a length of several kilometers from the beginning till the edge of the island, where you find the Atlantis Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in the city and a replica of the same hotel in The Bahamas
WHERE TO TASTE GREAT FOOD:
Nathan outlaw at al mahara.
The restaurant is not underwater, nor is the ‘submarine’ that takes you there real. Nonetheless, it is an extraordinary and unique experience dining within the vast aquarium that sets the scene for Nathan Outlaw Al Mahara. The Michelin-starred British chef’s dishes emphasize the power of simplicity while the flavors of the finest ingredients speak for themselves. Guests can enjoy signature cocktails in one of the open-air, waterfront patio tables.
jumeirah.com
Casual atmosphere at Eauzone, reflecting the slow pace of the One&Only Royal Mirage and the lazy sea beyond. After sunset, however, this venue smartens up into a sleek, refined restaurant. The design is beautifully positioned around the pool, giving the impression that it is floating on the translucent water. A winding walkway over the pool shows the way into the restaurant where there is a stylish bar and a glamorous, striped poolside marquee deck.
oneandonlyresorts.com
La Petite Maison
Magnificently located in Dubai International Financial Centre, this restaurant’s cooking style belongs to ‘old Genoese,’ serving Mediterranean dishes. Local produce — notably artichokes, courgettes, lemons, olives, tomatoes, peppers and girolles — is used generously with seafood, meat and fresh pasta to produce a style that’s light and healthy.
lpmlondon.co.uk/dubai
Al Hadheerah
The Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa signature restaurant is a 60-minute drive from Dubai airport. The resort is hidden among sand dunes, giving the image of an isolated oasis perfect for a fine-dining experience under the stars. Fourteen live cooking stations provide authentic cuisine from the Middle East while guests enjoy live entertainment. The Emirati Heritage Museum is also located nearby for an extra dose of culture.
meydanhotels.com
Award-winning chefs at Zheng He’s pride themselves on creating dishes that blend modern Western presentation with old Chinese flavors. The setting adds to this fusion — on the ‘dockside’ of a canal that weaves itself into the Madinet Jumeirah resort, it has an atmosphere of ancient simplicity while retaining views of the Burj Al Arab and the Gulf beyond. Try the signature Fortune Beggar Chicken among the exquisite Chinese fare on offer.
Based at the Atlantis Hotel, Nobu fuses cutting–edge Japanese style with Arabian influences, while retaining Nobu classics such as its legendary seared black cod served with sweet miso sauce, and yellowtail topped with thin slices of jalapeño. The menu is complemented by a sushi bar and stylish surroundings, including private areas for more intimate gatherings. Cooking classes are available, allowing guests to learn the secrets behind this world-famous restaurant chain, created by globally renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa to redefine Japanese cuisine.

BEST SHOPPING:
The dubai mall.
The UAE’s highest concentration of designer boutiques can be found here, alongside the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo and an Olympic-sized ice rink, while the Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa are on the doorstep. Walking through the several million square feet of retail space is a workout: you can navigate with the Dubai Mall mobile app, and be sure to pack comfortable shoes – or buy a pair. With more than 1,300 shops, including anchor departments stores Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s, finding the right footwear for the job shouldn’t be a problem.

Mall of the Emirates
T he only place in the UAE where you’ll find a ski slope, Mall of the Emirates is a magnet for Middle Eastern travellers who’ve never seen snow. The mall’s Fashion District looks like the pages of Vogue brought to life, with Bulgari, Dior and Gucci stopping shoppers in their tracks with attention-grabbing window displays. High-street offerings include Next, Topshop and the popular Turkish equivalent, Koton, while Harvey Nichols and Debenhams go head to head as the flagship department stores. The ‘Hands Free’ service means shoppers can have their bags collected and delivered later anywhere in the mall, car parks or connecting hotels (a Kempinski and a Sheraton).
The Outlet Village
T his incongruous Tuscan village-styled mall on the outskirts of Dubai is to the UAE what Bicester Village is to England. From Armani to Ermenegildo Zegna, several discounted high-end collections can be found in bespoke boutiques or one of three multi-brand department stores: The Deal, Priceless and Galeries Lafayette L’Outlet. Hotfoot it to Coach, Dunhill, Michael Kors and Montblanc for luxury leather accessories, and bag high street bargains at stores including Banana Republic, Gap Factory, Diesel, Superdry and Ted Baker. In addition to the 100 or so shops, there’s a food court and Stay & Play, a care facility where children can be entertained while grown-ups splurge.

Lotus Arts de Vivre
T his little shop of curiosities, an outpost of a family business based in Thailand, presents dramatic handcrafted jewellery and home décor inspired by Asian mythology and made from unusual materials, most striking among them the iridescent green wings of the scarab beetle. Outshining the sharpest cut of emerald, large and ornate scarab earrings and pendants emit an almost supernatural glow from within the shop’s glass display cases. A bespoke scarab souvenir can cost a few thousand pounds, but it’s sure to remain a talking point for years to come. Slightly more affordable items are fashioned from seeds, nuts, shells and emu eggs.

THINGS NOT TO MISS:
1. burj khalifa.
The world’s tallest building is at the top of most Dubai tourists’ must-see list. Standing 163 floors – almost 830 meters tall – Burj Khalifa is perfect for a family trip including the beautifully landscaped gardens beneath and the 124th/125th and 148th-floor observation decks.
From above, the birds-eye view of Dubai and most importantly the panoramic skyline is unmatched. The world’s largest choreographed fountain show – Dubai Fountain – lies beneath for those who prefer their action on the ground or perhaps do not have time to join the queues
2. Burj Al-Arab
The world’s tallest, one and only “seven-star” hotel is a sail-shaped building standing 321 meters high on its own artificial island off the coast at Jumeirah.
3. Dubai Desert Safari
One of the major highlights of any Dubai tour is exploring the Dubai deserts. And going for a Dubai desert safari is the best way to experience a taster of the Dubai desert. A typical desert safari includes dune bashing, camel riding, sand boarding and many end in traditional Bedouin-style camps for dinner, henna and musical entertainment, a not to be missed experience.
4. Jumeirah Mosque
Jumeirah Mosque , a replica of the Egyptian Al-Azhar Mosque but eight times larger in actual size, is considered among the most beautiful mosques in Dubai, a great show-off of the traditional Islamic architecture.
5.Dubai Museum
Housed in the 230 years old Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai Museum serves as a showcase of the history and culture of the city and beyond. There is a great exhibit, at the entrance, displaying old maps of the region lining up as dots to the gigantic boom in modern development and expansion.
Traditional boats and palm-leaf house with wind-tower decorate the courtyard. Traditional weaponry, musical instruments, presentation of the local way of life along with artefacts from the several thousand years old Al Qusais archaeological site forms the core of the museum interior.
6.The Bastakia Quarter
This is the old city of Dubai and was built by the wealthy pearl-traders in the 19 th century. Old luxurious buildings made of coral and limestones were fitted with wind-towers – air-conditioning of the olden days. Bastakia is located on the eastern side of Bur Dubai and lies on the Dubai Creek. Along-side the old architectures, Majlis Gallery shows traditional Arab ceramics and furniture, while the XVA Gallery displays a more contemporary art collection.
7.Sheikh Sayeed Al-Maktoum House
This is another great museum housed in an old royal home. Sheikh Sayeed Al-Maktoum ruled Dubai from 1921 to 1958 and lived in this house originally built in 1896 by his father. The house was rebuilt and was turned into the museum; however, the architecture has been preserved. Dubai Museum of Historical Photographs and Documents now occupies the building.
8.Aquaventure
Aquaventure Waterpark is an internationally famous waterpark based at Atlantis The Palm. The world’s longest water slide Aquaconda, Leap of Faith – a nine-story-tall water slide and coaster rides offer the great water thrills for family fun. Underwater safari, water-sports area for children and a 700 meters long white sand beach complement the adventure.
9.Luxury Yachting Experience
Dubai is considered one of the best places in the world to enjoy luxury yachting. You can pick a yacht rental in Dubai per your budget and requirements and enjoy your time with your loved ones in Dubai’s crystal clear waters

Dubai has it all: an attractive skyline, a thriving cultural scene, world-class hotels, and some of the best shopping in the world. Of course, there’s no shortage of things to see and do in Dubai; after all, it’s home to hundreds of hotels and resorts and an abundance of restaurants, clubs, and bars spread out across the city. Dubai is also a dream destination for outdoor enthusiasts with its beaches and desert landscapes. Here are our must do’s while in Dubai:
Visit Burj Khalifa: At 2,717 ft, this is the world’s tallest building and a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Dubai. Take an elevator to the 124th floor for panoramic views over Dubai and its desert surroundings. Even if you don’t have time to go up to the top, this iconic structure is still worth visiting.
Visit Dubai Mall: One of the largest malls in the world, this shopping center has over 1,200 shops and restaurants. It also boasts an indoor ski slope, an aquarium, and an ice rink.
Take A Desert Safari: A desert safari offers visitors a chance to explore the dunes on board an off-road vehicle or on camel-back. See rare wildlife such as gazelles and ostriches while exploring this fantastic landscape.
Explore Dubai Miracle Garden: Dubai Miracle Garden is the world’s largest flower garden that features millions of flowers and is open from October to April every year. The garden spans over 17 acres and includes more than 50 million flowers and 250 million plants.
The Palm Jumeirah: This man-made island is located off the coast of Dubai near the shoreline of mainland UAE. It is connected by two bridges that lead to mainland Dubai and has artificial beaches along with several hotels, resorts, and other tourist attractions.
Women are expected to dress modestly when visiting mosques or religious sites. So, wear loose-fitting clothes covering your body from shoulders to knees. Additionally, a headscarf is optional but recommended. Men are not required by law to wear traditional clothes while visiting mosques. However, they should always cover their shoulders and avoid shorts, sleeveless shirts, or flip-flops when visiting religious sites out of respect for local custom.
Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates and one of the seven emirates that make up the country. It’s located on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf and is bordered by Abu Dhabi to the south and Sharjah to the east.

5. Armani Hotel Dubai
The Armani Hotel Dubai is a contrast to its ultra-luxe peers in Dubai. The first of the two hotels to be designed by Giorgio Armani himself, the Armani Hotel is home of impeccable taste in Dubai. A perfect embodiment of elegance via minimalist opulence, the hotel is located in The Burj Khalifa, one of the tallest buildings in the world and the central attraction that dominates Dubai’s skyline.
The hotel occupies the first eight floors with its own separate entrance and the signature suites are on the 38th and 39th floors. The rooms and suites are furnished in composed tones, the colour scheme ranging from beige to tan to grey and charcoal. The Armani suites are calm and reposeful; a proverbial oasis in the city of the future.
Tourists to the city generally watch the choreographed Dubai Fountain on the Burj Khalifa Lake by strolling along the boardwalk, near the lake’s edge. However, guests in the Armani Hotel can take in this colourful spectacle from the Armani Fountain Suite’s private balcony – with room service on hand.
The world of Armani entered the food & beverage scene in 1998, slowly expanding to bar, caffè and ristorante in Bologna, Cannes, Milan, New York, Tokyo and Paris. The Armani Ristorante in Dubai brings the excess of Italy to life here – contemporary presentation, fine ingredients and exquisite flavour.

Sustainability Initiatives
Our hotel is devoted to helping the environment by raising awareness and increasing conservation.
Grosvenor House Dubai recognizes that all ambassadors and guests have an important role to play in protecting the environment for future generations, by achieving sound environmental practices across our entire operation.
Through collaboration with suppliers, business partners, local authorities, ambassadors and environmental consultants like Green Key, who assist the hotel in being more environmentally efficient, we continually work to innovate and improve practices as follows:
Adopt and maintain word-class environmental standards; developing the required mechanisms for their implementation in alignment with the vision of the Government of Dubai and Marriott International.
Minimize waste and pollution by reducing, re-using, repairing, re-filling and recycling the resources consumed by our business, whenever appropriate. Conserve natural resources by raising the level of environmental awareness among our ambassadors, guests and communities through various initiatives and community involvement events.
Some of our sustainability initiatives and activities include:
- Green Key Certified: the hotel has certification from the Green Key since January 2013 for its efforts in regards to environmental awareness, sustainability practices and initiatives.
- Art from waste: re-using has never been more creative and innovative. Our ambassadors have re-used glass bottles, CD cases, matchboxes, tissue boxes, cans, bottle corks to create art, all showcased in the heart of house.
- Color-coded heart of house recycling bins promote recycling of paper, glass bottles, plastic and cans.
- We have also partnered with Union Paper Mills to recycle cooking oil, cardboard, cans and paper throughout our operations.
- Our dedicated Green Corner in the heart of house promotes environmental awareness among our ambassadors. It also features a dedicated drop box for old printer cartridges from the offices to ensure these are all sent back to the supplier to be re-filled and re-used without any waste.
- Clean up the world: Our ambassadors participate in the annual Clean Up The World campaign organized by Dubai Municipality to clean up various places in Dubai
- We are proud to promote the Phytomer product range in our spas. This is one of the only companies worldwide to introduce the filtering garden concept to purify water used in production and return it to a state re-usable in nature. The gardens serve as an educational site as well allowing people to learn about the purification process and the various flora and fauna on site. Phytomer also has their own algae harvesting sea farms which support the development of cultures protecting the rarest algae, promoting sustainability. Charme Orient, one of our spa partners, also uses 100% natural ingredients in their product line.
- “Choose Your Fish Wisely” sustainable choice campaign: ensuring our menu options for fish do not include the “orange spotted grouper” fish which is a very popular choice in the UAE. Other endangered seafood we do not have on our menus include hammour, blue fin tuna, shark, sea turtle, and whale.
- Where possible the lighting wattage has been reduced to support our Green Initiatives throughout the hotel with regular review of our lighting schemes. Grosvenor House is also in the process of replacing light bulbs throughout the hotel into energy efficient ones (i.e. LED light).
- ECO wood: the poolside deck at Tower 1 was fitted with ECO wood, the most sustainable option available today that is derived from a revolutionary green technology.
- ECO fair: bi-annual fair that sells lots of old items from the hotel such as blankets, pillows, crockery, cutlery another equipment and furniture at affordable prices. In 2013, we raised more than AED52,000-which was donated to the Starwood “Road to Awareness” program in support of UNICEF.
- Green Program: an environmental program where stay-over guests will be able to decide if they would like to have their room linen and terry changed on a daily basis, or not. Guests are informed of this initiative upon check-in and may participate by not placing the Green Program card on their bed which informs the Housekeeping Attendant to not change the bed linen. Similarly, guests are informed that if they wish to reuse their terry, they can communicate this to us by putting the terry back in the towel racks.
Did you know that in 2013, 17,602 guests participated in our linen and towel reuse program?
In addition to the above, our day to day operations is committed to taking small steps to minimize water and energy consumption and reduce waste. These include:
- Heart of House recycling of plastic, cans and paper printers in administration offices are programmed for double-sided printing.
- Guest rookery cards are collected from guests and re-used.
- CFL lighting in the heart of the house to illuminate corridors.
- Building management system to control indoor air quality.
- Automatic system for energy management.
- Heat Recovery Systems are used to control emissions and avoid wasting energy.
Meeting Environmental Mission Statement & Policy:
With the ever growing concern of global warming and human behaviors adverse impact on the environment, The Grosvenor House Dubai is continuously looking for new ways to be environmentally responsible.
The Grosvenor House is committed to doing more to consume less and has implemented several environmental Initiatives in the daily operation of the Hotel Conference & Banqueting Department:
- We offer clutter-free meeting packages in our conference rooms.
- We use electronic sales tools
- Sustainable meeting package
- We use energy-efficient digital signage
- We use recycled content paper products
- Sustainable meeting supplies
- We offer linen-less meeting tables
- We use green printing services
Green Council was created in 2012; its aim is raising awareness of the environmental initiatives and coordinating and measuring its implementation.

Dubai named in list of world’s top 20 most luxurious cities
Paris, london and tokyo topped the ranking of destinations that have the most luxury shops, restaurants and five-star hotels.
With a wealth of fine dining restaurants and high-end hotels, Dubai has plenty to offer those who like the finer things in life. And the city's reputation for such attractions has been cemented in a new list.
Dubai has been included in a ranking of the world's most luxurious cities, based on which locations have the most venues of that type, with the UAE city claiming 16th place.
The study by finance experts at Money.co.uk analyses the number of luxury hotels, restaurants and designer shops in each city. Paris, London and Tokyo were named as the top three cities in the world when it comes to luxury.
Dubai has 188 luxury locations, and ranked highest for its numerous five-star hotels. The study found there are 112 luxury resorts across the emirate including the "seven-star" Burj Al Arab, the Palazzo Versace Dubai and One&Only The Palm.
When it comes to designer shopping, the study considered 10 of the world’s best luxury brands, namely: Cartier, Rolex, Tiffany & Co, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Versace and Hermes.
Dubai scored high for retail therapy with 76 of these high-end designer stores having a home in the city. However, Dubai is currently not home to any Michelin-starred restaurants, as the famous culinary guide does not have an edition in the city.
The most luxurious cities in the world according to Money.co.uk
- Paris, France
- Tokyo, Japan
- New York, US
- Seoul, South Korea
- Hong Kong, China
- Shanghai, China
- Bangkok, Thailand
- Beijing, China
- Kyoto, Japan
- Istanbul, Turkey
- Osaka, Japan
- Taipei, Taiwan
- Chicago, US
- Sao Paulo, Brazil
- Guangzhou, China
- Los Angeles, US
- Madrid, Spain
Paris tops the list with a staggering 427 Michelin-star restaurants located in the French capital. Of these, many have three Michelin stars, including Pavillon Ledoyen, Arpege and Restaurant Guy Savoy.
The city also has 95 five-star hotels, and 108 stores from the world’s biggest luxury designers, with more Cartier stores than any other city in the world.
Second-placed London offers more luxury hotels than Paris, with a total of 156 five-star properties including The Shard’s Shangri-La, The Ritz and The Savoy on the banks of the River Thames. The UK capital also boasts plenty of choice when it comes to luxury shopping, with Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty, but has slightly fewer Michelin-star restaurants than France, with 372 in total.
The third most luxurious city in the world is Tokyo. The Japanese city is a foodie haven with a total of 298 award-winning eateries, including three-starred Ginza Kojyu which is the place to go for kaiseki, and some of the best sushi bars in the world. Ginza is the side of town to visit for high-end designer labels and, when it comes to five-star hotels, Imperial Hotel Tokyo has been a favourite with well-heeled guests since 1890.
Asian cities dominated the remainder of the top 10 rankings with South Korea in fifth place, followed by Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and Beijing.
Fourth-placed New York was the only American city in the top 10 – the Big Apple has 439 luxury locations. US cities Chicago and Los Angeles did, however, make it into the top 20, ranking in 15th and 19th place, respectively.
A previous study by Luxuryhotels.com found that Abu Dhabi topped the list for having the most luxury hotels. However, this study looked at the number of five-star resorts as a percentage of its total hotel count, rather than the total number.

Insider Tips for Making the Most of Your Rental Experience
Get familiar with local driving rules.
When travelling in Rome, be like Rome. When traveling in Dubai, it is important to know the basics of driving rules. Some regulations need to be considered.
- Everyone must wear seatbelts, regardless of who is driving. Hence, every passenger in Dubai should be wearing a seatbelt.
- Dubai has an electronic tolling system called Salik. When passing through Salik, cars get automatically registered and charged through FASTags.
- In Dubai, throwing litter on the road, not keeping a distance from other vehicles, and driving noisily attract penalties to drivers.
Be safe than sorry.
It is imperative to check all the features when picking up the rental car. Check everything, including the AC, lights, mirrors, seat adjustment, speed control, fuel level, etc. In case of any malfunction, report it to the rental executive immediately.
It is advisable to take photos before and after use as proof. When driving, follow the instructions carefully. For example, never cross the speed limit, avoid destroying property, switch lanes carefully, and don't drive under the influence.
Following the rules will only help to keep you and your loved ones warm and hearty and reduce the risk of getting a ticket.
Important Tip: When the delivery executive hands over the car, you can ask about any special features of the luxury car that you should consider while driving.
How to Book Your Luxury Car Rental with Phantom Rent A Car
Renting a car in Dubai can be done with a few steps:
- Browse through various luxury cars and choose one that suits your needs. Select a date and time at your convenience.
- Show valid ID proof. For tourists, we will need visa entry with a stamp, passport, IDP, home country's driving license, and debit/credit card for making the final payment.
- For UAE residents, a valid identification, UAE driving license, and debit/credit card for final payment.
- There is no need for a security deposit when doing business with Phantom Rent A Car.

United Arab Emirates - Private Travel
Through grand landmarks and cultural sites, deserts and beaches, spas and sports clubs, the United Arab Emirates is one eye-opening extravaganza after another.
Travellers often hook their visit to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, the Sheikh Zayed Festival or the renowned Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
The collection of seven regions that make up this Western Asia collective at the east end of the Arabian Peninsula include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. Of the population of 10 million, approximately eight million people are expatriates, comprising more than 200 nationalities. Dubai is filled with skyscrapers, palm-shaped man-made islands, palatial beach resorts and gargantuan shopping malls. A trip up the 160 storeys to the top of Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, is a must-do, as is the Al Fahidi Fort, home to the Dubai Museum. Abu Dhabi rises out of the Arabian Desert like an apparition – a luxurious mirage. Visitor stops include the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Emirates Palace. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the most breathtaking buildings in the entire world, an astonishingly display of unrivalled craftsmanship. Outside the city centres, a couple of desert retreats truly stand out. The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, the region’s first national park, is home to the amazing Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa. Hop in a private Land Rover and head to the sand dunes. And the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara is a palatial paradise in the Rub’Al Khali Desert. Ras Al Khaimah, the most northern emirate, is well-known for its stunning private beaches. There’s sure to be a lounger waiting for you.

Until now, the closest we’ve got to the feeling of luxury when flying was walking past the designer shops in the airport on our way to the loo.
But there’s a new and nifty way for us to travel in style and feel like we’re living that bad and bougie lifestyle on a budget.
Priority Pass is the world’s largest independent airport lounge access programme and basically offers you jammy discounts on over 1400 lounges across 600 cities in 148 countries.
Suffer from pre-flight nerves? The heaving crowds pouring out of every corner won’t help. But with Priority Pass , you get access to the calm and quiet lounges and get to ease in to vacation mode in style.
The lounges also offer free Wifi to keep you connected and something to eat and drink, including free alcohol in most. A complimentary glass of something bubbly? You don’t have to tell us twice.
Also, it doesn’t matter what ticket you’re flying on. You could have nabbed the last seat by the loos in economy and still be able to enjoy a feeling of decadence in the lounges.
Plus, if you arrive early you may even be able to enjoy some luxury treatments. A calming head massage before we head off? What a time to be alive.
A Standard Plus Membership is £229 per year , which works out to just over £19 a month. For that, you get ten free lounge visits and you can pay £24 per visit for a plus one.
The Standard Membership is just £69 per year and that means every visit to the lounge is just £24. Which, considering you get free Wifi and food and drink, is a straight up bargain, right?
And we also have some extra fab news as Metro readers can now get 30% off Standard and 20% off Standard Plus .
The Priority Pass has a ton of lounges across Europe, including London airports.
For instance, The Plaza Premium Lounge at Heathrow offers premium alcoholic drinks and there’s even a nap room. Seriously, a room to take a nap. It’s all we’ve ever wanted because quite frankly, life is exhausting.
AD FEATURE: WIN the ultimate three-night VIP break with Butlin's Big Weekenders
Win the ultimate VIP weekend away! Butlin's is giving Metro readers the chance to party hard on a three-night Butlin’s Big Weekender , exclusively for adults. These adult-only weekends span all your favourite decades and genres, with live performances from headline artists and world-class DJs.
The lucky winner will bag a Butlin’s Big Weekender break for them and three pals at Minehead, Bognor Regis or Skegness. The prize includes three nights of accommodation in a gold apartment or hotel (Bognor only), plus premium dining, VIP passes to unforgettable events, and even American-style brekkie favourites and unlimited bubbles or beers at Bottomless Brunch.
To enter, simply head here and fill out your details. It’s going to be huge!
Competition closes midnight 26 April 2024. Terms and conditions apply .
Returning from a trip to the Big Apple ? JFK Airport has the Primeclass Lounge and you can tuck in to a gorgeous selection of hot and cold dishes, plus unlimited alcohol.

Dubai records US$ 1.7bn in luxury home sales in Q1 2024
Palm Jumeirah dominates, accounting for 36.3% of luxury home sales..
DUBAI – 105 homes priced in excess of US$ 10 million were sold in Dubai during the first three months of the year, up 19% on Q1 2023, according to the latest analysis from global property consultant, Knight Frank .
Faisal Durrani, Partner – Head of Research, MENA, explained: “The level of deal activity in Dubai continues to strengthen, particularly at the top end of the market, where the near constant stream of international high-net-worth-individuals vying for the city’s most expensive homes persists.
“The laser-like focus of the global wealthy on Dubai is best reflected in the rapid deterioration in the volume of US$ 10 million+ homes for sale, which has fallen by 59% across the city over the last 12-months to just 864 homes.”
The total value of luxury homes sold during Q1 stands at US$ 1.73 billion, which is up 6% on Q1 2023 and builds on Dubai’s emergence as the world’s busiest US$ 10 million+ homes market.
Last year, Knight Frank says, Dubai recorded 431 home sales above US$ 10 million, nearly 80% higher than the next nearest contender – London (240). New York (211) rounded off the top three most active luxury homes markets in the world in 2023.
The Palm Jumeirah registered deals worth US$ 628 million, and dominated the luxury homes market during Q1, accounting for 36.3% of sales by total value. Jumeirah Bay Island (11.1%) and Dubai Hills Estate (7%) followed in second and third place, respectively.
While the Palm Jumeirah (39) also led the pack in terms of the total number of luxury homes sold, the Palm Jebel Ali (10) and Business Bay (7) registered more high-end home sales than Jumeirah Bay Island, or Dubai Hills Estate.
Dubai Hills Estate
According to Knight Frank, other markets, away from the headline grabbing Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Bay Island and Emirates Hills are fast rising in prominence amongst luxury home buyers, with Dubai Hills Estate, for instance, standing out as a market to watch.
Will McKintosh , Regional Partner and Head of Prime Residential, MENA, said: “Dubai Hills Estate has quietly for some time been rising up the ranks as not only one of Dubai’s most sought-after markets for domestic buyers, but now luxury home buyers are increasingly active here too.”
“The relative proximity to both Downtown and New Dubai, combined with access to international school, excellent neighbourhood facilities and amenities and of course its abundance of green space is quickly making Dubai Hills Estate one of Dubai’s most desirable neighbourhoods. Prices have unsurprisingly responded to the growing demand to live here and have risen by almost 11% in the last 12-months, while the number of homes available for sale has fallen by 75% to just over 1,000 units this past March”.
Knight Frank has previously found in its Destination Dubai 2023 report that access to parks and green space ranks as the most important consideration amongst global HNWI when considering an investment in the emirate.
Prime resurgence
Dubai’s prime residential market, which includes the Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Bay Island and Emirates Hills, has experienced a surge in performance as well, according to Knight Frank.
Durrani concluded: “After growing by 16.3% in 2023, following an extraordinary 44.4% increase during 2022, Dubai’s prime residential market has grown by 26.3% over the last 12-months, easily making it one of, if not the fastest growing prime residential market globally. While these startling growth rates are phenomenal, it doesn’t take away from the face that Dubai’s luxury homes market still remains one of the most affordable in the world.”
“Indeed, US$ 1 million secures some 980 square feet of prime residential space in Dubai, compared to just 366 square feet in New York, 355 square feet in London, or 172 square feet in Monaco.”
