Kenny Chesney Announces 2013 No Shoes Nation Tour

Just a few months after his record-breaking Brothers of the Sun Tour with Tim McGraw came to a close, Kenny Chesney is gearing up for another long stretch on the road. And this time, it's all about the fans. Chesney has coined his 17-stadium run the No Shoes Nation Tour, presented by Corona Light.

The 2013 trek will hit almost 50 cities and will start as early as March.

"We've been looking for ways to give my fanbase a name," Chesney explained during the announcement on his No Shoes Radio . "Everybody has built No Shoes Nation. We've created something so special -- the fans, myself, the band, crew... Their love for the music is constant; they are so passionate about the music."

It's hard to live up to an opening act like McGraw, but the 'Come Over' hitmaker has managed to wrangle up some serious talent for the tour. Eric Church and Eli Young Band have already confirmed that they'll be heading out on the tour bus (okay, buses) with Chesney.

"I think he's a real artist," Kenny says of Church. "I met him with my trainer years ago in the gym. He had just gotten to town. To see his progression, to see the songwriter and artist he's becoming, he totally deserves that spot on our stadium tour. He's a great fit for what we do out there."

Chesney also added that he's a fan of EYB's 'Crazy Girl.' It's a good thing, since the song beat out Chesney's own 'You and Tequila' for Song of the Year at the 2012 ACM Awards! The country crooner also noted that he is impressed with the Texas native band's most recent record.

Additionally, fan favorites Zac Brown Band and newcomer Kacey Musgraves -- whom Chesney says is "one of the freshest, most authentic female singer-songwriters" he's heard in a while -- will be included on select dates.

Sounds like the No Shoes Nation tour is something to add to your 2013 concert bucket list. More dates are expected to be announced soon.

"To Native Americans, music is everything," says Crystal, a member of the Ojibway tribe who was born on the Wikwemikong Native Reservation on Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. "It's our history, our dance, and used to remember important events. I hope that my music on this historic evening with help honor and celebrate the inauguration of the nation's 44th President."

The tour starts April 20 in Tampa, Florida.

In March, Chesney released his 20th studio album called “Born.”

Chesney said “Born” was not planned. “... we never set out to make a record, just explore songs and moments for the same of music. All of sudden, time had passed and somehow we had all these songs that looked like different pieces of who I – and just about everyone in No Shoes Nation, too – am.

“It wasn’t a master plan. There was no theme we’re singing about that holds it together. But if you listen to all 15 songs, you’ll get the high energy fun, chasing adventures, don’t let people get you down piece and you’ll get the more reflective thinking about someone who’s died, the person you know you shouldn’t call emotions that have always been in the music, too.”

Other country music concerts in Pa. coming up include:

  • Alabama, April 27, Giant Center, Hershey
  • Tim McGraw , April 27, PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh
  • Luke Combs, April 27, Beaver Stadium, State College

Kenny Chesney Explains the Importance of Having Fun While on Tour & Leaving His Ego on Stage

S ummer is coming early this year for many country music fans this year. Kenny Chesney will be bringing the beach vibes to stadiums across the nation starting this Saturday (April 20). His Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour kicks off in Tampa, Florida at the Raymond James Stadium. He recently revealed that the good vibes he spreads while onstage continue when the show ends.

Chesney recently appeared on Audacy’s Rob + Holly’s Friday Night Takeover . During the chat, he talked about his recent album, Born, and his upcoming tour. While talking about the tour, the East Tennessee native gave some insight into what life is like backstage for him and his tour mates.

[Kenny Chesney Sun Goes Down Tour: Get Tickets]

Kenny Chesney Believes Touring Should Be Fun, Acts Accordingly

Like many people in a wide array of professional fields, Chesney learned by example. In his case, one of his first tours showed him how he didn’t want to act when he got big enough to headline a tour. “When we started this journey—I’m not going to mention names, obviously—we were out on the road. Being out on the road is hard enough and when you’re out there with people who don’t make it fun, it’s even harder,” he explained.

Chesney didn’t give any details about why that tour wasn’t fun. However, what he said a little later in the conversation may shed some light on the experience. “When you go on the road with people and they’re treated with respect and the fun factor is wonderful it makes for a much better summer,” he explained. “To be able to share that with people has always been a part of what we do. Like I said, it’s hard enough to be out there and not share that,” he added.

Chesney Keeps His Ego in Check

Much of the way Kenny Chesney does things behind the scenes has to do with keeping his ego in check. “I’ve got ego up on stage and I think you have to have ego up there to be great, the way we do things,” he said. “But I work really hard on leaving that person up there. I don’t take that person with me backstage or in my everyday life. I’m reminded of him and I’m really glad to see him when I get up there. But I think that’s part of it,” he added.

“It’s always much better when everybody really loves it and there’s a lot of love going around instead of this, I don’t know. If there’s this ‘I belong here and you belong here and this is the way it’s going to be all summer.’ It just sets a weird tone. We’ve never been about that. Ever.”

Looking back on his early days, he said, “I remember being in that moment and going ‘If I ever get to a place where I’m doing this on my own terms, I’m going to do it the way I feel like it should be done.”
