8 Free (or Cheap) Cruise Shore Excursions in Nassau, Bahamas
Mar 20, 2019
See recent posts by Courtney Elko
Whether you’re spending your entire family vacation in Nassau or just passing through during your Caribbean cruise, there are plenty of free or super-cheap things to do in the capital city of the Bahamas .
1. Junkanoo Beach
As one of the few free beaches in Nassau that’s close to the cruise port, Junkanoo Beach can get crowded. But it offers white, sugary sand and clear, blue waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Located at Bay and Nassau streets near Courtyard by Marriott Nassau Downtown/Junkanoo Beach , this free beach is about a 15-minute walk or so from the cruise port terminal. Chairs and umbrellas can be rented from beach vendors and food is available for purchase from beach vendors and restaurants that line the street behind the beach. Restrooms and changing areas are also available at this beach.
2. Nassau Straw Market
Browsing Nassau’s Straw Market , located on Bay Street, is a must when visiting the area—and it’s free! (Of course, the shopping is another story!) This souvenir market offers everything from straw hats and beach bags to wood carvings and paintings . Be prepared to be approached by the vendors selling their wares, but know that you can haggle for the best price.
3. Spray Fountains Outside Straw Market
Located just outside the Straw Market on Bay Street is a courtyard area with splash pad-like spray fountains situated in the center. It’s the perfect place for kids to cool off! There are also shaded areas to sit and put your feet up, plus even more vendors selling goods.
4. Woodworking
In and around the Straw Market area are vendors selling wooden sculptures and figurines. Families will find some of the craftsman working on their next creations. It’s fun to watch how quickly and creatively they can chisel and hammer the wood. Take a minute to watch and admire the craft at no cost.
5. Queen’s Staircase
The 66 steps of the Queen’s Staircase (named after Queen Victoria) were carved out of limestone rock in the 1790s. This Bahamian landmark is a pretty spot surrounded by limestone and greenery, and makes for a great photo opportunity or a place to have the kids burn off some energy, free of charge.
6. Fort Fincastle
Once you’ve climbed the Queen’s Staircase, you’ll be rewarded with a gorgeous view and the chance to explore a fort that—like the Queen’s Staircase—was cut from limestone in the 1790s. Fort Fincastle overlooks the city of Nassau and Paradise Island, and was actually used as a lighthouse until 1817. Free, guided tours of the fort take place daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; donations are encouraged. Some cruise lines offer tours of the fort (including transportation) for a fee.
7. The Pirates of Nassau Museum
Located near the Straw Market and about an eight-minute walk from the cruise port terminal is The Pirates of Nassau Museum . Kids will love to climb aboard the life-size pirate ship and experience what it was like to live like a pirate in the 1700s. The self-guided tour offers plenty of details on the pirates of the Bahamas and how they lived. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour to walk through the museum. There is also a pub onsite, perfect for grabbing lunch after your pirate adventure. Admission for adults is $13.50 and $6.75 for children age 4 to 17.
8. Ardastra Gardens and Zoo
The Ardastra Gardens and Zoo , the only zoo in the Bahamas, is best known for its flamingos. There are more than 200 flamingos at this zoo, and three times daily, these pink beauties march about to say hello to visitors. The flamingos are not afraid of people and are happy to pose on one foot right next to you for a flamingo photo! More than 200 other types of animals can be found at the zoo, including domestic pigs, lemurs, iguanas, turtles and parrots, and they are all surrounded by gorgeous greenery and colorful flowers throughout the 4 acres of tropical gardens. Admission is $18.75 for adults and $9.50 for children age 4 to 12; it’s free for children under 3 years old.

12+ Fun Cheap (or FREE) Things to Do in Nassau
Looking for free or cheap things to do during a cruise stop in Nassau ? Let’s just say you aren’t alone.
Nassau is one of the most visited ports in this part of the world, and millions of cruise passengers stop here each year. In fact, after a recent $300 million renovation for a new terminal and now six cruise ship berths, more than 30,000 passengers can visit in a single day.
In Nassau there is no shortage of things to do ( see our list of 30 things to do here ), but what if you want to enjoy your time in port without spending much money?
While many things catering to cruise passengers in the area do cost money, there is still plenty that you can do for cheap… and even free. This way you can come ashore, enjoy The Bahamas, and not hurt your pocket book.
Hit the Water at Cabbage Beach
Of course, when people think of The Bahamas the beach is top of mind. Unlike some other ports, however, there’s not a beach right at the ship. Still, you have a couple of options.
One of the most popular is Cabbage Beach. A short ferry ride (around $5 per person) to Paradise Island — the island across from the cruise port where Atlantis sits — gets you there.
Once off the ferry, you’ll have a bit of a walk (or you can catch a cab), to get to the beach. But once there, you’ll be greeted by white sand and the most electric blue water you’ve ever seen. The beach is popular, so expect a crowd. You can walk down the beach — away from Atlantis — to get a little more space. There are also vendors if you want a snack or drink. ( For directions to Cabbage Beach, see our article here. )
Explore the New $300 Million Cruise Terminal
Nassau just put the finishing touches on a new $300 million cruise terminal, and if you’re looking for something affordable to do, it’s a good option. The new terminal features exhibits, a museum, amphitheater, shopping, and food/drink options.
If you simply want to get off the ship and stretch your legs a little bit, it’s a good spot to explore, people watch, and take in some great views of the cruise ships in port that day without going far.
Get a Picture With the Ship
Want an easy souvenir of your cruise? One of the best is a picture with your ship, and Nassau offers one of the best spots to grab a snapshot.
Once docked, simply head off the ship and walk down the docks until you find the perfect spot. In fact, you’ll likely see many other people doing the same. Keep in mind that due to the shape of the berths, your best framed picture might not be a shot right at the ship. Walking down the pier may allow you to get a nice shot with more of the ship in the picture.
Another word of advice — try to get your picture before around mid-day. Since Nassau’s port sits east and west, the morning sun hits the ships perfectly to really make the color pop.
Stroll the Famous Bay Street
One nice perk of the Nassau cruise port is that it sits right at the foot of downtown. That puts it within walking distance of a number of things to do and see. Case in point: Bay Street.
Bay Street is just one block from the cruise port and can be thought of as the shopping hub of Nassau. It features a ton of stores in brightly colored buildings that cover everything from Rolex stores to places selling inexpensive t-shirts and souvenirs.
But isn’t this article about cheap things to do? Well, we didn’t say you had to buy anything. It’s fun to simply take in the sights and sounds of The Bahamas, even if you don’t buy a fancy new watch.
Visit the Straw Market for Inexpensive Souvenirs
Walk just a short distance west of the cruise port down the street right in front of the terminal (Woodes Rodgers Walk) or Bay Street, and you’ll find the Nassau Straw Market. This indoor facility is essentially a covered souvenir market, with tons of stalls selling everything from coffee mugs to t-shirts, earrings to sun hats.
While vendors might accept credit cards, we’d recommend bringing some cash as you shop local.
Visit the National Art Gallery
Want a little culture during your stop in Nassau? Most people think of beers and the beach, but Nassau has a lot to offer beyond that.
The country’s National Art Gallery of The Bahamas sits in an 1860s home (Villa Doyle) that’s been converted into an exhibition space. The grounds feature an outdoor theater, a sculpture garden, and two stories of Bahamian art displays. (Our favorite is “Crawfish Woman,” which is a concrete sculpture of a mix between… well, a crawfish and a woman.)
The gallery is open most days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but is closed Mondays. Sundays open at noon. Admission is $10 for adults. The walk over is about 15-20 minutes from the cruise ship.
Explore Atlantis
When it comes to Nassau, without a doubt the most eye-catching spot is Atlantis. Located across the channel from the main city and sitting on Paradise Island, the hotel dominates the skyline.
The hotel itself is famous, but it’s more than just a spot for the affluent to stay while visiting The Bahamas. It’s actually an entire resort and complex, with a marina, casino, high-end shopping, restaurants, and even a waterpark. To be sure, if you want to spend money, you can spend… a lot.
But it’s also free to go explore some parts of the hotel, including visiting the marina, shops, and casino. It’s quite a complex that’s impressive with a lot of visitors from the cruise ships.
Learn About the Pirates of Nassau
Nassau’s history goes back hundreds of years, and pirates played a big part in its development. The days of piracy are long gone, but the Pirates of Nassau brings the history alive.
Located just a short walk from the ships (and right near the Straw Market on Bay Street), this spot is ideal for those with kids interested in pirates. There are recreations and exhibits that detail pirate life in a fun way, complete with a replica pirate ship.
There is a charge for admission — $13.50 for adults, $6.75 for kids — so while it’s not free, it’s a relatively inexpensive thing to do near the cruise ships.
Explore Parliament Square
Many people don’t realize that Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas. And just a short one-block walk from the cruise terminal is Parliament Square, which acts as the seat of government.
You can go walk the area in just a few minutes, where you’ll find Parliament, the Senate, House of Assembly and the Supreme Court.
Don’t expect it to look just like Washington, D.C.! The buildings are fairly quaint by American standards, but they are also painted a beautiful pink that matches with the style and attitude of The Bahamas.
Climb the Historic Queen’s Staircase
If you look through the excursions offers by the cruise line when visiting Nassau, no doubt you’ll notice that many feature a visit to the Queen’s Staircase . What’s so interesting about some stairs?
Well, this spot was carved out of solid limestone by slaves in the late 1700s. Today the same 66 steps still exist, giving you the ability to literally walk through history. It’s part of a larger fort complex (Fort Fincastle) that used to protect the city from pirates.
The walk is a little over a half-mile from the cruise port, so it should only take about 15 minutes. It’s also right next to the new U.S. embassy.
Visit Junkanoo Beach
If you’re looking for the closest beach to the cruise port , just exit the terminal, turn to the right, and walk about 10 minutes. Around a Hilton and Margaritaville hotel, you’ll come to Junkanoo Beach. It’s closer and easier to get to than Cabbage Beach, but even so, it likely has fewer people.
The beach itself is gorgeous, and you’ll also find a number of small restaurants serving food and drinks, along with vendors offering access to loungers and umbrellas. But if you like, you can just lay down a towel, get some sun, and then go for a dip.
There’s also a great view looking back at the cruise ships that makes a good photo.
Take a Rum Tour at the Watlings Distillery
This area of the world is known for its rum, and there’s a distillery right in downtown Nassau. The John Watlings Rum Distillery sits about a 15-minute walk from the cruise port.
At the site (the Buena Vista estate), you’ll get to experience the spot built in the 1780s that today houses the distillery. There are free tours available of the production process, and there’s also a tavern where you can experience the rum in one of the distillery’s signature cocktails.
Of course, there are tastings, and if you like there are also bottles you can purchase and take back home with you. It’s a real Bahamian experience that you simply can’t get anywhere else.
Learn the Story of The Bahamas at the Bahamas Historical Society
There’s no shortage of history in The Bahamas, and if you’re interested in it, then the spot to go is the Bahamas Historical Society . As the museum says, here you can “learn about our people, culture, crafts and the archaeology and anthropology of The Bahamas.” Exhibits include everything from the natives that inhabited before the area was discovered by Europeans through today.
This museum makes a nice stop-off if you’re headed to the Queen’s Staircase as it’s on the way and just minutes from the cruise port.

There’s no better way to explore the city and get active than a shore excursion in Nassau on a bike ! Swimming with the pigs in Nassau
I’ve been to many different countries and resorts and quite often the experiences being offered are very similar. But if you want something truly unique, then I definitely recommend swimming with the pigs in Nassau, Bahamas.
Imagine being in clear blue waters, surrounded by friendly and playful swimming pigs. They’ll come over to say hello, creating a moment you’ll always remember. Whether you love animals or just want a unique adventure, swimming with the pigs in Nassau is a chance to connect with nature in a whole new way.

Swimming pigs, snorkeling & lunch
Spend a day swimming with the pigs in Nassau on Rose Island. The day kicks off with a relaxing cruise through Paradise Island’s picturesque harbor, featuring stunning oceanfront mansions. Upon arrival at Rose Island, you can enjoy a wide range of activities.
The most interesting one is swimming and interacting with the pigs. You can watch them play in the water, feed them and even hold them in your hands like any other pet. Other than that, you can relax at the beach bar or join a guided snorkeling tour. If that’s not your thing, there are also hammocks and kayaks at your disposal. You can also explore the island if you wish to.
This swimming with the pigs in Nassau tour also includes optional hotel and cruise port pickup.
Rose Island tour and swimming pigs
Get ready for an exciting adventure with this swimming with pigs in Nassau tour. It all begins with a scenic tour and a bit of karaoke, followed by a 20-minute boat ride to Rose Island. Upon reaching the island, you can enjoy the serene surroundings and take a dip in the warm, clear waters.
A special pig show is the highlight, allowing you to interact with these charming creatures, feed them , and even give them some affectionate pets. After the piggy fun, a beach bar offers refreshing drinks . A free meal and drink are also included in the price. Other than swimming with the pigs, you can relax in some of the beach chairs or play at the pool table.
The tour also includes free hotel pickup and drop-off , bottled water and a lot of unforgettable memories. My advice is to bring cash, as the venues at the island usually don’t accept card payments.
Swimming Pigs Encounter
Enjoy a half-day adventure in Nassau with the famous swimming pigs of the Caribbean. As any other swimming with the pigs in Nassau tour, you’ll take a 30-minute boat ride to picturesque Rose Island.
Once you reach the island, you’ll be greeted by the friendliest little pigs. They love to swim in the water and have a snack. Meanwhile you can play with them, feed them or my favorite one – pet them and hold them in your hands. I really like holding the young ones, they are like a less-fluffy cat. Other than having fun with the pigs, you can enjoy the beach and the sun or buy some drinks from the bars.
The tour includes beach chairs, optional alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase at the bar, restrooms, boat transportation to Rose Island, and the delightful Piglets & Pigs encounter. Optional air-conditioned pickup and drop-off service is available from the cruise port and selected resorts.
Rum tours in Nassau
The rum tours in Nassau offer a glimpse into the Caribbean’s rich rum history. With a heritage dating back to piracy and sugarcane plantations, rum holds a special place in Nassau. This famous Bahamian spirit, once beloved by pirates, now attracts visitors seeking a taste of history and diverse flavors.
These experiences offer a delightful blend of history, culture, and, of course, exceptional rum flavors. In my opinion, they are a great way to also meet new people and have a lot of fun. Thus for me this makes them among the best excursions in Nassau, Bahamas
Rum and Food Walking Tour
If you enjoy drinking rum or want to immerse yourself in the Bahamian spirits history, then I recommend you book this rum tour in Nassau. While the tour doesn’t include hotel pickup and drop-off, the vibrant combination of history, culture, and exquisite flavors makes this experience truly unforgettable.
The tour goes beyond a mere tasting, offering an engaging rum tutorial that deepens your understanding and appreciation for this rich spirit. The inclusion of snacks and delightful treats like 2 rum-infused bonbons, 3 cocktails, and 5 rum tastings adds a layer of indulgence to this culinary journey. On top of that, there’s also a rum cocktail mixology session included in the price.
During the tour you’ll explore two iconic destinations. First one is Graycliff Chocolatier , Nassau’s exclusive bean-to-bar chocolate factory. The second is John Watling’s Distillery , where artisanal Bahamian rums are meticulously crafted.
Rum Reggae and Rhythms Tour
Explore Nassau with this lively rum tour in Nassau. Although the name sounds more like a party tour, you’ll actually explore a lot of what the city has to offer. In my opinion, this is one of the best excursions in Nassau, Bahamas. It’s important to note that you must be over 18 to join this excursion . Throughout the tour you’ll enjoy reggae music and a special rum punch.
Starting at the Graycliff Cigar Company , you’ll witness skilled cigar rollers and learn a lot about cigars. Then Graycliff Chocolatier offers a sweet interlude with chocolate samples. Bahama Barrels on the other hand introduces unique island-blended wines that you can sample. After that you’ll learn the art of rum-making at John Watling’s Distillery and learn more about the island’s history.
Last, this rum tour in Nassau will pass by Bob Marley’s former home for cool stories. The excursion ends at Cable Beach , one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, where you’ll have some time to relax and swim. My advice is to skip the swimming part if you had way too many drinks.
Take on the best excursions in Nassau by opting for thrilling jeep tours that offer different exploration experiences. Jeeps let you go off the beaten path and discover hidden gems. Personally, I love the immersive experience and feeling the wind while traveling on this beautiful island. Enjoy off-road adventures and coastal cruising among the tours that I selected after extensive research.
8-seater Jeep tour
Begin an exciting three-hour jeep tour in Nassau and learn about its history and flavors. The tour includes all you may need – hotel pickup and drop-off, local cuisine lunch, unlimited local soft drinks and a lot of fun. What I personally really like are the custom-built Jeeps that can fit the whole family and more!
The Jeep tour includes multiple stops. Among them you can find the famous Fort Montagu and the Queen’s Staircase . From the latter you’ll admire gorgeous views of Nassau. You’ll also dive into Bahamian culture at Arawak Cay Fish Fry, where you’ll try some local delicacies . Let Tasty Teas enchant you with native bush teas, and John Watling’s Distillery captivate your senses with exquisite rums.
The Jeep tour includes other stops and sights, so make sure to click the link and see the detailed description.
Sightseeing Jeep tour
Hop aboard the private Jeep Tour for an exclusive jeep tour in Nassau. What I love about this jeep tour is that each group has its own Jeep with a tour guide driver . This means you won’t share your Jeep with someone unfamiliar! During the tour you’ll learn about historical landmarks such as Rawson Square, Queen’s Staircase, and Fort Fincastle , each revealing a piece of Nassau’s captivating past.
You’ll also discover the Caves of New Providence , witness the beauty of Cable Beach , and pass by notable locations like Paradise Island and Rawson Square. Marvel at the Queen’s Staircase views and explore the defensive structure of Fort Fincastle.
As a foodie, my favorite ones are visits to Graycliff Chocolatier and John Watling’s Distillery . There you can learn about Nassau’s pirate legacy and sample Bahamian rums and chocolates. This family-friendly tour ensures laughter, information, and fun, making it one of the best excursions in Nassau, Bahamas.

Prices for the same tours can vary across cruise lines and third-party sellers, so tours are listed below by price ranges, using the following shorthand (per adult):
$= $0-50. $$= $51-99. $$$= $100-199. $$$$=$200-499.
Best Nassau, Bahamas shore excursions
Island food and culinary tour
3-3.5 hours, easy, $$.
Bahamas food and beverage excursions are an ideal way to immerse yourself in the culture of the islands. You'll feast on island specialties and favorites such as conch fritters or salad, rock lobster, traditional cornbread-like Johnny cakes and tropical punches laced with rum. Most cruise lines offer food tours that stop at multiple local eateries. There may be walking involved, so be sure to read your cruise line's description.
Blue Lagoon beach break
Varies, easy to moderate, $$-$$$.
Some of the best excursions in Nassau are to Blue Lagoon Island, a privately owned island with a beach, food, water sports and other activities. You can choose the standard beach break option with lunch, beach games and use of water noodles and tubes. Or you can upgrade to a tour that includes snorkeling or swimming with stingrays, dolphins, sharks and even sea lions. Additional activities can be purchased upon arrival on the island.
Scuba diving with sharks
4.5 hours, moderate, $$$-$$$$.
If you are a certified scuba diver and have ever considered diving with sharks, this is your excursion. The shark dives involve one reef dive, followed by a second dive with everyone kneeling in the sand on the bottom as the shark feeder doles out his goodies. You've heard the term "sharknado?" It's a real thing and being in one is an adrenaline rush you'll never forget.
I should warn the shark-timid among you that because Caribbean reef sharks are plentiful in the waters surrounding Nassau and because dive shops have been doing baited shark dives here for years, you may encounter sharks on any dive in Nassau, though at a bit more distance than during the shark feeds. In fact, I've never not seen a shark while diving here.
Paradise Island and Aquaventure Oasis Waterpark
All day, moderate, $$$$.
Excursions that include access to Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas seem to no longer mention the name of the mega-resort that made Paradise Island famous. If you've always wanted to go, excursions labeled Aquaventure are your ticket.
The day pass includes access to miles of beaches, the on-site casino, and the Aquaventure water park featuring 141 acres of slides, swimming areas, river rides, and wave areas. The pass also allows you to dine in the resort's eateries, explore a myriad of shops or even add an aquatic animal experience like a dolphin swim.
You can purchase Atlantis day passes independently, but the advantage of booking your visit as an excursion is that transportation will be included.

Best shore excursions in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island
Freeport island tour, beach and shopping
4 hours, easy, $.
Shore excursions that bundle a tour with a beach break and shopping are always a good choice in the Bahamas. You get to see a bit of the island, learn its history, shop for souvenirs and get in some coveted beach time, all with easy transportation. This kind of tour is especially useful if you've never been to Grand Bahama Island. For a small amount of money, you get to scope the place out for your adventures on your next Bahamas cruise.
Pirate's Cove beach, zipline and waterpark
4 hours, moderate, $$$.
If zip lining is your thing, this is a good place to get your fix. The beachside zip line has options for starting at 50 feet up or 30 feet, making it ideal for newbies wanting to try the experience. Since this excursion also includes time at the beach and floating water park, consider it a deal.
Glass bottom boat shark experience
3 hours, easy, $$$.
Want to see Caribbean reef sharks without putting your toes in the water? This excursion takes you on a glass-bottom boat ride to waters where Caribbean reef sharks have been fed. The boat has ample deck space for sunning when you aren't watching the action below the boat. It's a fun way to spend a day out on the water with an opportunity to see these predators and other colorful tropical fish without fear. Typical Bahamian refreshments round out the fun.
Blue hole snorkeling
5 hours, moderate, $$$.
My rule of thumb is to snorkel at every opportunity while in the Bahamas. It's a fun and easy way to take a peek beneath the waves at the colorful sea life found in these waters. When you book a snorkeling excursion in the Bahamas, gear is provided, including snorkeling vests to keep you afloat.
For the best Bahamas snorkeling, choose a blue hole snorkeling excursion. Blue holes are found throughout the Bahamas and are essentially open-topped caverns, so it's like swimming in a fishbowl. Some are landlocked, where they may be filled with either fresh or salt water, and inhabited by a wide range of aquatic life, including crabs, lobsters, octopus and fish. Others are offshore, below the surface of the ocean, creating a mini reef environment to explore.
This excursion involves a lengthy ride, but it's definitely worth it.
Swim with the pigs
1.5 hours, easy, $$$.
Swimming pigs are kind of a big deal in the Bahamas. Animal lovers can enjoy time in shallow water watching (and even feeding) these silly pigs. Most of the cruise line private islands also offer pig swims, but the one in Freeport does not involve a boat ride, which may make it more appealing to some. You'll also get time to hang out on Crystal Beach and buy lunch.

Best Bahamas shore excursions from cruise line private islands
Snorkeling from shore or by boat
Varies, moderate, $-$$.
Cruise ship private islands make snorkeling easy. Most of the islands will offer snorkeling gear for rent, and you can snorkel right from the beach. (If you, like me, never miss an opportunity to put your face in the water, consider buying your own snorkel gear for future sailings.) Optional boat excursions to primo snorkeling spots are also possible from some islands.
1-1.5 hours, moderate, $-$$.
Kayaking from the cruise line private islands gives you a new perspective of these fun playgrounds. Tours are led by experienced guides who can point out sea life in shallow water while leading you along the shore of the tropical paradise. Beginners are welcome and life jackets are provided.
Stingray City Bahamas
1.5 hours, easy, $$.
While the Stingray City experience has been popular in Grand Cayman for years, it's relatively new to the Bahamas. Stingray City Bahamas is located among the Berry Islands, home to Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay and Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay. You'll be taken on a short speedboat ride to a shallow sandy spot in a location where stingrays congregate. Your guide will provide fish to feed the rays, which swoop in and suck the fish from your hand. It's a fun outing if you haven't done it before and it doesn't take away too much of your beach time on the island.
Horseback riding by land and sea
1.25 hours, moderate, $$$.
Carnival offers a horseback riding tour from Half Moon Cay that includes a brief venture into the sea with your horse. The minimum age is 10. As the mother of a horse-loving daughter, I can tell you that riding in the ocean was one of her favorite cruise memories ever. No riding experience is required, but you must be able to follow directions and pay attention to your guide for your own safety as well as that of the horses and other riders. One other thing to know: There will be poo, both on land and in the water.

Bottom line
Bahamas shore excursions typically focus on activity in the water, but if shopping, food tours or sightseeing are more your thing, you'll find those options as well. The Bahamas is made up of a culturally rich collection of islands that have a reputation for welcoming visitors with arms wide open. From simple beach break excursions to full-day tours, you can easily find something that floats your boat in the Bahamas.

Best Nassau Shore Excursions for 2024

Do you have a cruise planned that stops in Nassau, Bahamas? Here are the best Nassau shore excursions you can book in 2024.
The Nassau shore excursions offered through your cruise line can be so expensive compared to booking independently! Cruise line shore excursions offer a guarantee that you’ll get back to the ship on time, so they can charge super-high prices for that peace of mind.
But reputable independent tour companies often have lower prices , and you’ll usually enjoy smaller group sizes compared to the giant cruise ship tours.
They can’t hold the ship for you, but reputable tour operators will do everything in their power to get you back to your meeting place by the promised time, if not earlier!

How to find a reputable tour agency for your port stop in Nassau
All of my recommended shore excursions in Nassau are offered through GetYourGuide , a well-established tour booking agency that offers free cancellations up to 24 hours before your tour.
They also offer a convenient “ reserve now & pay later ” feature, letting cruisers book tours and pay any time up to 72 hours before your excursion.

Tips for your independent Nassau shore excursion
When booking an independent shore excursion in Nassau, you need to keep a few things in mind:
- Make sure the start and end times of your excursion are well within the timeframe you’ll be in port. Give yourself some “wiggle room” in case your ship is late getting into port, or if you hit traffic on the way back to the ship.
- Choose a shore excursion that picks up and drops off near the port (or plan transportation to the meeting place).
- Bring cash to tip your tour guide (US currency is accepted in the Bahamas)
- Print paper copies of your tickets, and have the contact info for the tour company on hand in case you can’t find your group.
- Carry travel insurance that covers your ticket price if you miss the excursion due to late ship arrival or port cancellation.

The absolute best excursion I have ever been on ~ This was the absolute beat excursion I have ever been on. Being it was my first time in the Bahamas, I wanted to do it the right way. after searching reviews, I went with pieces of 8 charters. It was the best decision, THEY DO NOT LET YOU DOWN! BOOK IT I PROMISE YOU IT WILL BE A TIME TO MAKE LIFE-LASTING MEMORIES! Ron and Diego were top-notch!!!!! Out of this world is amazing!
Bucket list day! This is a must-do on your Bahamas vacation…it was the highlight of our trip. Captain Ron and first mate Eddy were fantastic. They took great care of my 74-year-old mom and 2 kids who (along with my husband and I) had a blast. Each stop was amazing and unique…iguanas, sharks, pigs, lunch, a secluded island…we loved every moment and felt the trip was well worth the money spent. We almost didn’t do this trip thinking there was already so much to do at Atlantis but we’re so glad we did, highly recommend.
