guest review

My family . . . spent the week with Alaska Hooksetters the last week in July. We had a wonderful time - one cannot discount the convenience of having everything planned for you. They though of everything! The food was delightful as well - from the appetizers straight through to desserts every evening. The lodge is centrally located to many of the outings/fishing trips we wanted to go on. We are already making our bucket list for the next time we get to go!

- Sheri Gordon Robinson

. . . honestly one of the best trips of my life, I really wish I could come back next summer. What a truly amazing place.

- Kelsey Ball

A snug cabin and a warm campfire are the perfect way to end a wonderful day fishing in Alaska.

- Larry Hodge

- David & Christine H.

Thank you for a fabulous fishing experience! Everyone was so patient and kind with us novice fishermen! Dan wants to bring our sons back one day for another run at those kings.

- Dan & Marilyn S.

Thank you Glenn, Karen, Carmen & Heather. This week has been amazing. The memories made this week will last a lifetime. You have made this week one of the best trips ever that I have taken. Tons of fish, time by the firepit, great food, but most importantly, your care and kindness. Thank you again for making this so special.

- Michael C.

A hearty thanks to: Glenn, Karen, Carmen, Heather, Austin, Josh, James, Mike for your kindness, patience, warmth, guidance & service. This was a once in a lifetime experience that far exceeded our expectations. Fishing out in the ocean and DKDKDK The Kenai and Kasilof Rivers was great and the Deep Freezer will be FULL!!!! Extra shout out to Heather and Carmen for all the wonderful soups, appetizers, dinners and desserts... Hoping to have gained less than 10 pounds, couldn't stop eating.

A huge thank you to you all! This has been the best Father, Son experience I could have imagined! God bess you in your business and all you do.

- Steve & Colin

It has been a great week. I made some great memories with my nephew and great nephew and we are going home with some fish. The staff here at Hooksetters have been awesome. We met some very nice people around the campfire. I enjoyed sharing fishing tales and life stories. This trip was a lifetime dream and on my bucketlist. Alaska Hooksetters delivered. It was everything I hoped for. I hope to return someday.

All I can say is THank you! Thank you! Thank you! Unbelievable week couldn't of have a better time! The food and hospitality was amazing! We'll be back!!!

What a great week! We've been thinking about fishing Alaska forever and now the week is over. Already thinking about when I'm coming back! Thank you all! Tight lines, good food, great people!

Just like that, it's over... We had another great stay here @ Alaska Hooksetters. This time we lacked the company of the Nortons, but we still managed to meet new people and have a great time. The last time we came. I would say we caught "SOME" fish. This time, we did incredible, limiting out every day except one. It was a bummer we couldn't fish for kings this year, but that only means one thing... we'll be back! THank you, Glenn and Karen!

Guided Fishing Tours in Alaska

By Mandy Garcia on September 2, 2022

Do you want to book a one-of-a-kind fishing trip? Alaska offers many world-class fishing opportunities. At Salmon Berry Travel Tours , we provide Alaska vacations with add on fishing trips and unmatched experiences. Whether you want to fish for salmon or halibut, we have everything you need to add an exciting Alaska fishing trip to your dream vacation!

There are three levels of fishing…

1. You just want to try it out. Add a half day or full day fishing charter to your Alaska vacation! Our Glaciers, Parks, and Wildlife Travel package has a free day in Seward, a perfect day to add on a salmon & rockfish saltwater charter!

2. You want an all-inclusive fishing trip with roundtrip transportation from Anchorage. Our package includes nice cabins along the river, and great river fishing guides. Practice catch & release for rainbow trout. Or, if the salmon are running, you can keep your catch and get it shipped back home to your freezer!

3. Totally Fishing Focused – an independent trip with a rental car. These itineraries include multiple species, multiple fishing locations, and multiple fishing captains/guides.

Meet your fishing in Alaska expert, Kristin

Before joining Salmon Berry Tours, Kristin planned a variety of fishing trips for locals and visitors alike on the Kenai Peninsula. When she joined our team, she quickly became our go-to expert for fishing itineraries! Organizing both river trips and saltwater charters, Kristin crafts itineraries based on a number of factors.

What questions do we need to start your Alaska Fishing itinerary?

  • Travel Dates?
  • Are you comfortable driving a rental car?
  • Do you want to practice catch & release or keep your fish & ship it home?
  • Did you have a species of fish you would like to fish for?

Additional Fishing Expenses

The following expenses are not included in your fishing charter: Fishing License, Processing/Shipping of Fish, or fishing guide gratuity.

The crew works really hard at baiting your hooks, netting your fish, asking if you want pictures before they clean your fish and taking care of you. Prepare for $50 gratuity per guest unless otherwise noted on your itinerary.

All travelers 16+ years should buy a valid Alaska fishing license. The licenses are available Online or in person.

Processing varies by processor and shipping costs (US destinations only) start at about $6/lb. This is an expense you will pay directly to the processor/shipper. We recommend using the processor/shipper that your captain recommends. Please bring plastic bags with you for your fish to take to the processor.

What should you bring with you?

The atmosphere is informal; casual clothes are suitable here and throughout Alaska. Summer temperatures vary between 45 degrees Fahrenheit and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain is not uncommon. You will be most comfortable if you have clothes that are warm even when damp (wool sweater or polar fleece jacket are best) and decent rain pants and rain jacket. Guests find more comfort bringing a hat, polarized sunglasses, and a light pair of gloves. We fish rain or shine – bring your sense of adventure!

Deep sea fishing vessels will have an inside cabin to get in out of the weather, so dress smart and comfortable. With that said, you won’t catch fish if you are inside! There is a marine head on board.

River fishing drift boats will not have an indoor cabin or facilities. Guests can bring their own waders, or the fishing guides will provide quality waders, wading boots, gear and tackle.

Feel free to bring a cooler or small day bag on board with anything you may want to eat/drink. NO BANANAS or glass bottles for safety and success of our day fishing.

Booking/Cancellation Policy

To start the booking process , you will pay a 50% deposit. The deposit saves your seat as you proceed to make the booking. The remaining fee is due 60 days before the fishing trip starts.

The cancellation of your booking ticket varies based on specific considerations. Most fishing charters have a more strict cancellation fee if you cancel inside 60 days. We highly recommend trip insurance to protect yourself from additional costs associated with cancelling a fishing excursion.  Salmon Berry recommends selecting TravelSafe Insurance at checkout to secure your travel and Alaska fishing trip in case of extreme circumstances.

Requesting a Reservation

We pride ourselves in our unique, authentically Alaskan adventures and, as we specialize in intentionally small lodges and intimate small group, big experience nature tours, we prefer to work with Agents and individuals in a more personalized manner during the reservations process. Although we do not take online deposits or online bookings, you’re welcome to place an online Reservation Request , and one of our expert staffers will get in touch with you right away to discuss availability and the next steps to secure a reservation.

As a service to you as our travel partner, our team will provide you a full quote outlining any applicable upgrade options for your clients to consider, along with tax information and any other relevant details before we accept a deposit. We’ll help answer any and all questions to make the booking process as informative and easy as possible!

Payment and Cancellation Policies

Please visit Our Policies for specific information on deposits, payments and cancellation terms, based upon the trip type selected.

Trip Confirmation

Once you’ve discussed availability and terms for your client’s first-choice trip, our team will send you an invoice, and the deposit will be due within 7 business days, providing a grace period for check deposits sent by mail. Reservation space not confirmed with a deposit in a timely manner will be released after the 7-day period.

Upon receipt of deposit, our team will send the Agent a full suite of guest confirmation documents, including a welcome letter, detailed day-by-day itinerary, list of emergency contacts, packing list, recommended reading lists and other helpful trip planning materials, which may be passed along to the client. Materials will be sent electronically for ease; hard copies are available by special request. Guests must complete an online Guest Information Form and Participant Agreement in advance of arrival and will be provided links to do so.

After the Trip

We value the special relationship between a Travel Agent and his/her client, and Alaska Wildland Adventures does not retain or use any client contact information shared with us after successful completion of a trip. Guests will have an opportunity to submit feedback to our team post-trip, and we encourage you to reach out to the Reservations Specialist who assisted you to let us know how we’re doing! Thanks for trusting us to share the wonders of Alaska with your clients. It’s our honor and privilege to take extraordinary care of travelers.

Travel agency commissions.

We pay US and Canada based travel agencies commissions per the following policies:

  • We offer a 10% commission when sales contact is initiated by the Travel Agent with all subsequent communication and planning serviced by the Travel Agent.
  • Travel agency commissions are only granted for US and Canadian travel agencies.
  • Travel agency commissions are paid on packages with the CTA designation in the tour number (i.e. Tour 159CTA), on customized tour packages, as well as pre- and post-night hotels added to tour packages.
  • The exceptions (sorry) are non-packaged items including but not limited to: day tours, lodge stays, cruises, transfers, change fees, travel insurance and cancellation fees. Unfortunately we cannot offer commission on services when they are not included in a package price. We also are unable to pay commission on stand-alone hotel bookings when not booked with a commissionable package, and services that are cancelled due to reasons out of our control such as weather cancellations. If you cannot find the tour code of a tour, please contact us to verify eligibly for commission.
  • Commission is processed AFTER travel is completed and cannot be deducted from initial payments.
  • Commissions are paid by check 30 days after travel is completed, as cancellations or changes during travel may affect the total commissionable price. For instance, if we issue a refund to clients for a tour that was cancelled due to weather, the total amount refunded will be deducted from the original commissionable rate.

We have designed our vacation packages for the North American traveler in particular. If your clients are from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Asia or Africa, please contact us and we are happy to refer you to one of our tour operator partners overseas. Our overseas partners are very knowledgeable and will be able to assist with your Alaska vacation planning.

Meet our team of experts

Tom has been with Yellow Dog for more than ten years, after first starting as an intern at the company straight after graduation from the University of Montana. He has literally worn every hat and worked in every position possible at Yellow Dog, and no one knows the inner-working of the company – or the fishing travel industry – better. After working for years in an overall sales role for the company, Tom’s role expanded in 2021 to help manage all of our programs at Yellow Dog. Originally from the Midwest, Tom is a graduate of the University of Montana and as fanatical an angler as anyone we’ve ever met. When not in the office, Tom can be found fishing one of the many backcountry streams Montana has to offer or sitting at the vise tying up some new creations. Over his years with Yellow Dog, Tom has traveled extensively throughout both fresh and saltwater destinations around the globe. If you attend any of the consumer shows where Yellow Dog is participating, chances are great that you’ll meet Tom in the Yellow Dog booth!

Jake is Yellow Dog’s program director for our U.S. programs. Originally from Virginia, Jake moved to Idaho in 2005 and started his career in the fly fishing industry at Henry’s Fork Anglers, one of the most well-known destination fly shops in the Western United States. After leaving Idaho at the beginning of 2013, he relocated to Salt Lake City and worked for a top fly fishing e-commerce retailer, and then as a sales representative for some of the top brands in the industry. Jake is an unbelievable source of knowledge on all things having to do with fly fishing, and he now looks forward to traveling the globe pursuing his passion and helping others to do the same.

Kristen Tripp is Yellow Dog’s Program Director for Cuba and Yellow Dog’s Bluewater Program. A love of travel, culture, the outdoors and angling were cultivated from growing up in Nepal with summers in the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. With travel in her blood, Kristen has lived and traveled all over Latin and South America (including Chile, Argentina, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Cuba) along with a long list of countries in other continents as well. Despite her global travel experience, she still maintains a healthy bucket list for future exploration. Kristen’s international travel experience combined with her Spanish language skills and an aptitude for complex trip logistics give her the skills necessary to provide travelers to Cuba with a fantastic experience. An angler, paddler, biker, hiker and general outdoor enthusiast, Kristen loves to get outside when possible to explore, and always loves the opportunity to put her Spanish to use. A “logistics addict” with a get-it-done attitude, you can bet that Kristen will work hard to take care of your trip details. If she ever lacks for an immediate answer to your questions, she will work hard to track down the information for you and can troubleshoot in two languages, a must for Cuba trips!

Jack was born in Southern California and grew up camping, surfing, and fishing with family and friends. When he graduated from high school he followed his love for the mountains to Colorado where he attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and graduated with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Atmospheric and Ocean Science. After graduating, Jack chose to follow his passions to Argentina where he first guided fly fishing. For the next 5 years, Jack worked as a guide splitting his time between Argentina, Uruguay, Alaska, Mexico, and Wyoming, many years spending over 300 days on the water. Jack has guided for a variety of species including trout in Patagonia, Golden Dorado in the jungle, and striped marlin in Baja. Recently, after years of non-stop travel and remote living, Jack decided to step away from guiding and outfitting at destination operations. He is extremely grateful for the experiences he was able to have, the people he was able to meet, and the places he was able to see throughout his time as a guide. Jack is passionate about travel, fly fishing, and adventure—He finds great joy in helping others experience what he loves.
