The Tour began July 1 with the Grand Départ in Spain before crossing into France on the third stage.

The Tour covers France’s five biggest mountain ranges, including eight mountain stages and four summit finishes.

The Tour will not have a time trial on the penultimate day as it did the last three years. Instead, the 20th stage, usually the last competitive stage for the yellow jersey, includes five significant climbs.

This is the first Tour since 2009 to include the last three men to win a Tour. That’s Dane Jonas Vingegaard, who went from a fish-packing facility worker years ago to the top of pro cycling in 2022; Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, who in 2020 became at 21 the second-youngest winner in race history, then repeated in 2021, and Colombian Egan Bernal, who in 2019 became the first South American to win the Tour.

Mark Cavendish, a 38-year-old Brit aiming to break his tie for the career Tour de France stage wins record of 34, crashed out in the eighth stage of his final Tour.

It's the biggest race of them all, but these days, the Tour de France means one thing: Tadej Pogačar vs Jonas Vingegaard. Between them the duo have won the last three editions of the race, with Vingegaard taking the 2022 race for Team Jumbo–Visma and Pogačar winning in 2020 and 2021.

In the most recent action, Vingegaard left Pogačar in the dust, gaining six minutes on his rival in the final climb. Pogačar called it "one of the worst days of my life on the bike."

Vingegaard is still in the lead, and fended off some anti-doping questions at the end of Stage 19. Two more stages remain, and Pogačar is still in second, with Adam Yates is in third.

It's the final day of this year's race, and – with the battle for the yellow jersey effectively over – Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) has achieved his second victory in a row. The sprinters will be out for glory in Paris, however, so you'll be looking for a Tour de France live stream so you can watch the action from the finish line as it happens. Saturday's stage 20 between Moûtiers and Bourg-en-Bresse was won by two-time Tour winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates). That meant that second-placed Pogačar, who had been neck-and-neck with Vingegaard until Tuesday's time trial, claimed back a few seconds in the General Classification , but not enough to make a significant dent on Vingegaard's seven-minute lead. Pogačar's UA teammate, Adam Yates, will occupy the third step on the podium.

Sunday's final stage takes the riders on a 115km route from Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to Paris, culminating on the famous Champs-Élysées. Alpecin-Deceuninck  will surely be trying to get their green jersey wearer, Jasper Philipsen, in contention for a sprint finish, with the rider trying to secure his fifth stage stage win of this year's Tour. Three grueling weeks of calf-destroying climbs and tense sprints await the world's best riders as the 110th Tour de France gets underway this weekend.

Kicking off with the Grand Départ, which takes place this year in Bilbao, Spain, the route makes its way across Basque Country before heading up the Pyrenees, across the Massif Central and eventually concluding on the cheering streets of Paris.

This year's tour is once again being billed as a rematch between defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (on the Jumbo-Visma team) and two-time winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) as the great rivals go head-to-head for the third year in a row. 

Pogačar is battling back from a broken wrist sustained two months ago, while last year's Giro d'Italia champion Jai Hindley and Ineos Grenadiers star Egan Bernal will both be looking to wrestle away the iconic yellow jersey. 

Veteran British sprinter Mark Cavendish will be attempting to claim the record for most Tour stage wins, with the Astana Qazaqstan ace currently level with Belgian legend Eddy Merckx on 34.

How to Watch the 2023 Tour de France—and Who Might Win

From cable TV to live streaming, here are your options for watching the 2023 Tour, plus details about riders to watch.

The 2023 Tour de France begins on Saturday, July 1, 2023 in the Spanish Basque region, with a hilly 182K road race through the steep hills around Bilbao. So it’s time to start planning how you’re going to watch it.

Whether that means streaming from your phone, starting your morning with the previous day’s highlights, or inviting your friends over for a viewing party, the options for watching the Tour de France are plentiful.

For the Fanatics

You could cancel your subscription at the end of the Tour, but consider this: by subscribing to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus you’ll also have access to the full men’s and women’s Tours as well as other races covered by NBC and its partners, including the 2023 Vuelta a España and next year’s editions of Paris-Nice and Paris-Roubaix .

Riders to Watch

Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), the defending champion , should enter this year’s race as the top favorite. He’s spent much of the season at training camps with his teammates, but when he has raced, he’s done well, winning two of three stage races he entered and finishing third in the one that he didn’t. His squad is the strongest in the Tour and the course suits him. Assuming he makes it to the starting line in Bilbao without any unexpected mishaps (like crashes or illnesses), he’s the #1 contender.

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) who won back-to-back Tours in 2020 and 2021 and absolutely CRUSHED the first part of the season (he won the Ruta del Sol, Paris-Nice, the Tour of Flanders , the Amstel Gold Race , and Flèche Wallonne ) would have been the top favorite had he not crashed and broken his wrist at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The injury forced him off the bike for a while, interrupting his training for the Tour. But that might be a good thing: first because it means he’ll be peaking a bit later in the race; and second because he’ll be a bit more of a dark horse, which could play right into his hands. He has the added advantage of having beaten Vingegaard the only time they raced against one another so far this season: at Paris-Nice in March.

The INEOS Grenadiers will again come to the Tour led by Colombia’s Daniel Martinez, who’s so far failed to live up to the expectations the team had for him when they signed him away from EF Education a few years ago. He’ll be joined by his compatriot, Egan Bernal , the winner of the 2019 Tour de France (and 2021 Giro d’Italia ) who’s slowly been working his way back from a crash that nearly took his life in February 2022.

Other contenders include Spain’s Enric Mas (Movistar), a three-time runner-up in the Tour of Spain who has fifth- and sixth-place Tour de France finishes on his resume; France’s David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), who narrowly missed a spot on the final podium last year; and Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), who has podium finishes in all three grand tours including a win at the 2019 Giro d’Italia .

It’s nearly July and that can only mean one thing — the Tour de France is on.

Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard will be fending off Tadej Pogačar , and a power-packed field that pedals out of Bilbao on July 1 in the hunt for the 110th Tour crown.

How to watch the 2023 Tour de France in the United States and Canada

NBC is where it’s at for U.S. cycling fans. NBC Sports will broadcast this year’s event across NBC, USA Network, and Peacock.

The NBC-owned Peacock online streaming service will be carrying the race live in the U.S. through the full 21 stages. NBC-owned USA Network and NBC will also pick up some coverage.

FloSports will provide a live streaming service in Canada.

How to watch the 2023 Tour de France in Europe

European fans will be able to watch the Tour de France online via GCN+ or on the partner Eurosport streaming service. Eurosport will also cover the race on its Freeview channel. Some territory restrictions apply to these broadcasts.

The Super Bowl of cycling is back.

Jonas Vingegaard will attempt to defend his title in the 110th Tour de France, which starts July 1. Last year's win was the Danish rider's first victory as he beat the favored Tadej Pogacar with impressive performances in the mountains.

Biniam Girmay will win the Green Jersey.

Another thrilling battle at the 2023 Tour de France is in sight as Tadej Pogacer will try to take back the Tour de France crown that he lost to Jonas Vingegaard last year. Here is all you need to about this year’s race which begins on 1 July in Bilbao, Spain.

The Tour de France 2023 has all the makings of another road cycling thriller.

Will the world’s most prestigious race be the third act in the epic battle between defending champion Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark and 2021 champion Tadej Pogacar ?

Soon we will have all the answers with the 110 th edition of the French Grand Tour starting on Saturday (1 July) in Bilbao, the largest city in the Basque Country, Spain.

Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) is hoping to be crowned champion again, after he won last year’s race as just the second Dane in history ahead of Slovenia’s two-time Tour de France winner, Tadej Pogacar

It is the 110 th edition of the French Grand Tour that will feature Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Richard Carapaz , silver medallist Wout van Aert and bronze medallist Pogacar.

La Grande Boucle will cover 3,404 km over the 21 stages, with the final stage taking place at the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 23 July. There are eight flat stages, four hilly stages, one time trial and eight mountain stages. Four of these have summit finishes, including the stage to the mythical Puy de Dôme.

176 riders will be on the start line at the Guggenheim Museum, one of Bilbao’s major tourist attractions, with eight riders for each of the 22 teams.

In 2022, we witnessed a breathtaking duel between Vingegaard and Pogacar , and they are coming into this year’s race as the two big favourites.

The 26-year-old Dane has participated in four stage races this season, having won three of them in dominant fashion - O Gran Camiño, Itzulia Basque Country, and most recently the Critérium du Dauphiné.

Pogacar and Vingegaard last faced each other at the Paris-Nice in March, where the 24-year-old Slovenian claimed victory ahead of David Gaudu and Vingegaard .

UAE Tean Emirates captain Pogacar has claimed no less than 14 victories this season including Paris-Nice, Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne, before he crashed and broke his wrist at the Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

The two-time Il Lombardia winner made his comeback last week, claiming both the Slovenian national time trial and road race championship.

2022 Giro d’Italia winner Jai Hindley is going to be the leader on a strong BORA - Hansgrohe team. At the Critérium du Dauphiné, 27-year-old Hindley finished fourth behind Adam Yates of the UAE Team Emirates and his compatriot Ben O'Connor of AG2R Citroën Team.

With his win at last year’s Giro, the Australian has shown that he has the endurance needed to compete in a three-week Grand Tour.

22-year-old Mattias Skjelmose (Denmark) stunned the world of cycling by winning the Tour de Suisse earlier this month ahead of the likes of Remco Evenepoel and Juan Ayuso .

He continued his impressive run and was crowned Danish road race champion on Sunday (25 June), after a spectacular solo effort in the final kilometres.

The Trek-Segafredo rider has participated in one Grand Tour previously as he rode the Giro d’Italia last year finishing just 40 th . This year’s Tour de France will be a test of his stamina.

And dont count out Enric Mas. The 28-year-old Spaniard has finished second in the general classification at the Vuelta a España three times and is hoping to make the podium at the Tour.

The Movistar rider came in top six overall in three stage races this season.

Other key riders at the Tour de France 2023

Green jersey.

Last year's points competition winner Wout van Aert has already announced that the green jersey will not be a target for him as he aims to win stages and prepare for the UCI Cycling World Championships that takes place just two weeks after the finish in Paris.

That leaves Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck as the favourite to take the crown. The Belgian clinched two stages last season - including the most prestigious sprint finish on the Champs-Élysées - and he has already six race wins this season. His versatile teammate Mathieu van der Poel seems to be in the shape of his life, and if the Paris-Roubaix winner gets the freedom to chase the green jersey, watch out for the Dutchman.

The biggest threat might come from Soudal-Quick Step that always target stage wins with their sprinter. Fabio Jakobsen will be their trusted sprinter, like last year. The Dutchman is supported by a strong sprint cast with the most experienced lead-out man in the peloton, Michael Mørkøv, to set him up. 

Sprinter’s teams like Team Jayco Alula with Dylan Groenewegen and Lotto Dstny with Caleb Ewan will also chase stage wins and are contenders for the green jersey.

Denmark’s Mads Pedersen and Biniam Girmay of Eritrea are not only great sprinters but also good climbers. That ability can secure points for the green jersey classification on the more hilly stages. Pedersen took his first Tour de France stage win in last year’s edition and claimed the green jersey in the Vuelta a España, but like van Aert he has announced his focus is to arrive in top shape at the UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow.

Polka dot jersey

In the last three editions of the Tour de France, the winner of the king of the mountains classification has also been the overall winner of the Tour de France. Therefore, Pogacar and Vingegaard are the top contenders this year.

For the French riders it will be a special achievement to be on the podium in Paris wearing the polka dot jersey. Thibaut Pinot , who was king of the mountains classification at the Giro d’Italia in May is keen on challenging the two top guns as is 2019 polka dot jersey winner Romain Bardet .

Tour de France 2023 route and important stages

The 2023 Tour de France begins with a hilly stage containing some 3,400 metres of climbing. Contenders for the overall win will have to be ready from the start on the hills around Bilbao. The stage suits classics specialist like Mathieu van der Poel , Wout van Aert and Julian Alaphilippe who all want to be the first rider to wear the yellow jersey at this year’s Tour de France.

After another hilly stage in the Basque Country to San Sebastian on stage two, the peloton will cross the French border and resume the race with flat stages on day three and four. 

Stage five will take the peloton on the first mountain stage in the Pyrenees which includes Col du Soudet and Col de Marie Blanque. The following day, the riders will tackle the mythical mountain Col du Tourmalet before finishing the stage on the category 1 climb Cauterets-Cambasque. Week one concludes with an eagerly anticipated summit finish to the volcano Puy de Dôme that returns to the Tour after a 35-year absence.

On stage 13 in week two, the teams face a gruelling finish to Col du Grand Colombier in the Jura mountains. The two following days will also test the riders’ climbing skills with stage 15 featuring a summit finish to Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc in the Alps to end week two.

The final week kicks off with stage 16, the only individual time trial in the race. It is just 22 kilometres long but contains a fair amount of climbing, especially in the second part of the route. After the time trial, the queen stage of the Tour de France with more than 5000 metres of climbing is sure to generate plenty of drama. Colo de la Loze, the highest point of the race at 2304m, is the biggest obstacle on this stage being 28 kilometres long, with an average gradient of six percent.

Two flatter stages follow ahead of a short but mountainous penultimate stage in the Vosges on stage 20. It will be the last chance for the general classification contenders to gain time before the celebrations in Paris.

Golfers are guaranteed a significant payday just by making it into the Tour Championship, and they have the opportunity to rake in some serious dough if they place well. The first-place prize is a whopping $25 million, second place is $12.5 million, and third is $7.5 million. All players who finish in the top 12 get at least seven figures, and the golfer who finishes last (30th) gets $550,000.

As with the previous few years, the Tour Championship will give players a starting score depending on how many FedExCup points they’ve accrued during the Playoffs. The two golfers with the most points start the Tour Championship at 10-under par, the No. 2 player starts at 8-under, the No. 3 player starts at 7-under, and so on. As with last year, Scottie Scheffler is starting in the lead, with a 10-under start. Viktor Hovland is the defending champion.

Polish rider Kasia Niewiadoma has done just enough in a thrilling battle with Demi Vollering on the iconic Alpe d’Huez to win the women’s Tour de France by four seconds overall

ALPE D'HUEZ, France -- Polish rider Kasia Niewiadoma did just enough in a thrilling battle Sunday with rival Demi Vollering on the iconic Alpe d’Huez to win the women’s Tour de France by four seconds overall.

It was the smallest margin of victory in any Tour de France edition, including the men's race.

“It’s so crazy, this Tour has been a crazy roller-coaster,” Niewiadoma said after the eighth and final stage. “I’ve had bad moments. I hated every moment of this last climb, but when I heard that I had won the Tour de France, I could not believe it.”

Niewiadoma sat on the road after finishing, exhausted and waiting to get the confirmation that she had won. When the news finally came, she lifted her bike in triumph and appeared overwhelmed by the magnitude of her achievement.

Knowing she still trailed Niewiadoma overall, Vollering had been part of a breakaway Sunday with fellow Dutch rider Pauliena Rooijakkers earlier in the race. Vollering accelerated powerfully in the final stretch to win the stage.

But the gap wasn't quite enough as Niewiadoma finished fourth to narrowly clinch her first Tour title, with an overall time of 24 hours, 36 minutes, 7 seconds. Vollering's final time was 24:36:11.

Vollering, the defending champion, had fought back after suffering a crash in the fifth stage. She was inconsolable when she learned she had finished second overall after starting the stage more than a minute behind Niewiadoma overall.

“Right now I feel really bitter that I only lost by four seconds,” Vollering said. “It's really painful to know that I did not do enough today.”

Rooijakkers, also a title contender, finished third in the overall standings at only 10 seconds behind Niewiadoma.

Calogero est l’invité exceptionnel du Monde d'Élodie du 26 au 30 août 2024. L'occasion de revenir sur cinq moments forts de sa vie avec cinq chansons de son répertoire. L’auteur prolifique, compositeur, interprète et musicien occupe la scène et nos playlists depuis plus de 37 ans. Passionné de musique depuis son plus jeune âge, c’est à 16 ans, en 1987, qu’il forme le groupe des Charts avec son frère et un ami. 12 ans plus tard, il se lance dans une carrière solo avec son album Au milieu des autres , laissant tomber ses métiers de plombier et d'apprenti boucher.

Avec cette carrière solo, il est définitivement devenu Calogero, un artiste incontournable de la chanson française, avec ses petites pointes pop et rock. Mélodiste incontournable, beaucoup d'artistes ont fait appel à lui comme Florent Pagny et Zazie .

franceinfo : Cette notoriété semble avoir été lourde à porter. Vous a-t-elle fait trébucher par moments ?

Calogero : Non. Quand on lui demandait Mastroianni disait avec son accent italien : " Ce qui est compliqué à gérer pour un acteur ou un chanteur, c'est quand il n'y a pas de succès ". J'ai eu la chance de commencer tôt et donc d'avoir un peu de succès avec mon groupe, les Charts, tout de suite, mais pas trop. Heureusement, parce que le gros succès jeune, je pense que c'est plus compliqué à gérer. Et là, peut-être que ça m'aurait fait tourner la tête.

En 2014, il y a eu le titre Un jour au mauvais endroit dans l'album Les feux d'artifice . Elle va être élue chanson originale de l'année aux Victoires de la Musique. Cette chanson parle d'un fait dramatique, l'assassinat de deux jeunes après une bagarre qui a dégénéré. C'était aussi une façon de vous positionner ?

C'était très délicat parce que j'ai vraiment ressenti une profonde blessure, parce que ça s'est passé dans la ville où j'ai grandi, à Échirolles. Il se trouve que j'écrivais beaucoup de chansons à cette époque-là avec Marie Bastide, qui était ma compagne, donc elle voyait bien mes émotions et elle a su les traduire en texte, de manière très factuelle. Le texte est presque comme un article de journal. Et une fois que la chanson était faite, bien sûr, j'ai dit à Marie : "Il faut qu'on aille voir les familles, il faut qu'on aille leur faire écouter, mais vont-ils être d'accord ? Puisque je ne chanterai pas cette chanson si la famille ne l'est pas."

Malheureusement, les chansons ne changent pas grand-chose. Les chansons changent socialement parce qu'un gamin ou une gamine peut avoir envie de faire de la musique et de choisir une autre voie. La musique peut donner envie de s'élever socialement, mais pour ce genre de sujet, malheureusement, c'est une goutte d'eau puisqu'on voit bien depuis tant d'années tout ce qui s'est passé après Kevin et Sofiane, c'est de pire en pire.

Il y a une chanson qui est devenue indélébile eu égard à ce qui s'est passé avec les attentats de Nice, c'est : Les Feux d'artifice . Vous avez interprété cette chanson à la demande des familles à la date anniversaire, un an après. Vous avez accepté, mais ça va être extrêmement difficile pour vous. La preuve en est, c'est que vous n'allez pas réussir à terminer la chanson.

Oui, en fait, c'est très étrange, ce sont des chansons qui vous dépassent parce qu'au départ, la chanson ne parle pas du tout des événements de Nice. L'enfant qu'on a sur les épaules. On a tous vécu ça. Je l'ai vécu, il n'y a pas longtemps le 14 juillet avec mes enfants. Quand on m'a proposé de venir chanter la chanson, c'était une demande de la famille des victimes, je me suis dit : " C'est comme un devoir, tu dois le faire, tu dois aller chanter la chanson." Au dernier couplet de la chanson des Feux d’artifice : "Nous sommes comme les feux d'artifice. Vu qu'on est là pour pas longtemps. Faisons en sorte, tant qu'on existe, de briller dans les yeux des gens". Je vois qu'au premier rang, il y a les familles des victimes. Je n'ai pas pu finir la chanson, c'était impossible.

Dans cet album, il y a Le portrait . Je voudrais que vous me parliez de cette chanson parce que, je crois qu'il n'y a pas un seul Français qui n'a pas été absorbé par cette chanson. On a senti que vous étiez, vous-même, touché.

Oui, en plus, Le portrait est vraiment une chanson qui vient d'une photo. La photo vient d'Iran, je crois, où l’enfant dessine sa mère sur un parquet à la craie. Il a perdu sa mère à la guerre. C'est une photo bouleversante et on a montré cette photo à Paul École qui a écrit sur la musique. Ce sont des histoires de chansons qui sont très fortes et que j'aime. Ce n'est pas forcément pour chanter absolument le drame, non, c'est que j'aime chanter les chansons un petit peu comme un acteur ou comme un narrateur.

Calogero repart sur les routes de France avec son A.M.O.U.R. Tour pour de nombreuses étapes, dont le 14 novembre à Dijon, le 15 à Reims, le 23 à Limoges, le 30 à Caen, le 7 décembre à Toulon ou encore les 20 et 21 à Lille.

Novak Djokovic a beaucoup souffert dans le duel 100% serbe qui l'opposait à Laslo Djere mercredi soir, au 2e tour de l'US Open. Mais le numéro 2 mondial a fini par profiter de l'abandon de son adversaire, touché sur le flanc gauche mais aussi abattu mentalement après la perte du deuxième set (6-4, 6-4, 2-0).
