By Air - The best way for Tawang tour is by landing at Tezpur Airport [TEZ] which is 329.6 Km away, with very few domestic flights flying to this airport. Apart from that daily Domestic flights from all over India and few International flights operate to Guwahati Airport [GAU], which is at a distance 445 km from Tawang. Moreover there is weekly Helicopter Service between Guwahati and Tawang. Tourist can also avail this facility to reach tawang. By Train - There is no direct train service to Tawang due to high altitude and rough terrain. To travel Tawang by train, you have to get down at Rangapara Station (in Tezpur) and from there hire a cab or board a bus to reach up to Tawang. The on-road distance between Rangapara to Tawang will be approx 325 km. By Road - There are numerious options to travel up to Tawang by road. Tawang is a beautiful place to visit while on a North East Package Tour and in early 2020 we got a chance to explore this beautiful place amidst the tough mountains. The highlight of this place is its 400 years old Tawang monastery along with few ads on nearby places like Jaswant Singh Memorial, Nuranang falls, Bumla Pass, Sangetsar Lake, and War memorial. Although the place was undoubtedly great with a good stay, but the food is an issue here as my mother being vegetarian had to rely upon minimal options, but other than that we had a great family time.

Important things to remember for Tawang Tour Package

The trip will start only after the payment of the full amount. Make sure you make all the arrangements beforehand.
Make sure you are 100% comfortable with an off-road Trip. Expect to encounter slippery, narrow, unpaved roads and stretches of grit and rubble with water flowing through them.
Why is there no lunch? In the Northeast, we only eat rice, and we don’t eat wheat, so that’s why we don’t include Dinner in the itinerary but you can order from the menu or we can add for you at an Extra cost of 3000/- Per head.
All Sightseeing depends upon Weather, Road Conditions, and Time management of Guests. Sightseeing Can be Shifted to Other Days or can be missed, Totally Depending upon the Road conditions and time management of Guests.
Kindly Note – In Group Departure for all Guests – There will be only One Pickup Point and One Drop Point. All Guests have to report to the Pickup Point to board the vehicle. Same with Drop Point, We will drop off all guests at one point only.
If you want to be a part of the fixed departure group but do not wish to share the car with others and want the car dedicated exclusively to you / your group, please let us know and we’ll let you know the revised price for the same.
Vehicle Provided as per the Group Size and availability only. If Group members are 0-3 then 01 Non-AC Sedan (Dzire/Etios/Similar) – will be provided. If Group members are 4-6/ then 01 non-AC SUV (Innova/Scorpio/Similar) – will be provided. If Group members are more than 07, Then 01 Non-AC (Tempo Traveler/Similar) – will be Provided. The final Decision for the Vehicle is always on Uncia Trails and Guests have to agree on the Same. For Till 7 Persons we can Provide either a NON-AC SUV OR NON-AC Tempo Traveler as per the Possibilities.
For Group Departures Vouchers and Final Confirmation of Stays will be Given 3 Days Before the Trip Start Date.

Accommodation here will be on a double-sharing basis. If you are a solo traveler, the cost will stay the same but you will be sharing the room with another solo traveler of the same gender.

If the vehicle is deteriorating, it will take some time to fix. Until then, you will have to wait for the next update. Some time will need 05-06 hours to fix.

By Road : There is no access to the airport and railway in Tawang, it can only be reached by medium roads. The roads in Twant are almost open throughout the year. In any case, one can check the route as some of the roads are closed for 6 months in the Tawang.

Tawang Backpacking Trip (7D/6N)

The Tawang valley, situated at a varying height of 10,000 feet above sea level is a sight to behold. Tucked amidst the high passes of eastern Himalayan range and home to The Lamas, Tawang boasts the largest Buddist Monastary in the country that houses 28 feet high golden Buddha statue.

The high passes of Tawang are home to many glacial lakes that are an epitome of peace and tranquility. To reach Tawang, one has to pass through Sela pass at an altitude of 13,700 feet. Naturally, this is one of the highest passes in the world close to the international borders where travelers can enjoy a beautiful journey sighting hoards of Army vehicles.

The stone village of Dirang, the apple orchards town of Bomdila, the Indo-China border pass Bum La at an altitude of 15200 ft above sea level are added attractions. Bumla pass is a great example of how Indian soldiers protect our country at harshest of terrains and climates. Arunachal is the least densely populated state of India which is pure, peaceful, unpolluted and unmatched scenic beauty.

Day 1 - Guwahati to Tezpur/Bhalukpong

Travelers coming by Flight will get picked by our vehicle at Guwahati Airport at around 12.30 – 1.00 PM in the afternoon.
We will start our journey towards our first stop Tezpur/Bhalukpong , along the highway that runs parallel to the massive Brahmaputra river.
It’s a drive of 200 Km that takes 5 hours usually along with a Lunch stop.
Check into the guest house by late evening. The accommodation is hosted either at Tezpur or Bhalukpong based on availability.
Take a walk in the market, you can shop for items needed for the trip.
Finish Dinner and rest for the night.

Day 2 - Tezpur to Dirang

Check out of the stay after Breakfast and start our journey towards the Arunachal border checkpoint of Bhalukpong where we have to show our ILPs (Inner Line Permits) to enter Arunachal Pradesh.
The BRO (Border Roads Organization) have done such a tremendous job with the roads that most of the time, one wouldn’t even feel that we are passing through mighty Himalayas.
Along the way, we will stop by at beautiful view points to appreciate the sights of free flowing Tenga and Kameng rivers of Arunachal & stop for a Lunch break close to Bomdila pass.
Take a pit stop at a seasonal waterfalls, Bomdila view point and move towards our next destination for the day – Dirang which is also called a stone village.
We will explore the colorful Dirang monastary and call it an end for the day.
Based on the availability, the accommodation would be either in Sangti Valley or Dirang at a guest house.
Social gathering, Dinner and rest.

Day 3 - Sangti Valley, Dirang to Tawang

Experience the morning vibes of picturesque and serene Sangti Valley with flowing river, mountains on one side, huge swathes of grassland on the other side, grazing cattle, and greenery all around.
Sangti valley is just a half hour drive from Dirang main town.
Have Breakfast and check out of the stay.
Today we will head to our next destination Tawang by passing via one of the highest motorable roads in Himalayas called Sela pass.
It will take about 6-7 hours of total journey along with Lunch and different pit stops mentioned above to reach the land of Lamas – Tawang.
We will take a stop at the Paradise lake of Sela Pass at 13,700 feet above sea level to soak into the serene setting.
One of the things to look forward to is the Cafe run by Indian Army at Sela pass and their warm hospitality.
Owing to the proximity of border with China, one can find large swathes of Army vehicles all around. It really feels safe and secure out there, and a sense of pride.
Check into our Tawang guest house and refresh.
Dinner and socialize.
Sleep on the cozy beds.

Day 4 - Tawang Local

Early Breakfast and check out of the stay.
Explore every nook and corner of mesmerizing Tawang Monastery, the largest of its kind in India. The only monastery bigger than Tawang monastery is the one in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The colorful architecture and peaceful surroundings inspired by Buddhist way of life will touch your soul and heart.
Have Lunch at a local restaurant.
Explore giant Buddha statue of Tawang located on a hill where we get panoramic views of Tawang.
Give a visit to the 1962 Tawang War memorial and salute to the sacrifices of Indian soldiers who bravely defended our mother land.
Dinner and take good rest at our Tawang guest house.

Day 5 - BumLa Pass Day Trip

Start the day with Breakfast in the tranquil town of Tawang.
Today is an interesting day where we will go on a special permit road trip to the highest point of the trip – BumLa pass. Our tourist vehicles are not allowed to go there, and hence we will take a special cab from Tawang.
The journey takes us along the scenic glacier lakes straight to the Indo-China border post.
Along with peeking into the Chinese side, visitors can also view beyond the border by a few binoculars.
One can get refreshed at the Army canteen that serves hot snacks, tea and desserts.
On our way back, we will take stops at picturesque Sangetsar lake (famously called as Madhuri lake) and Ptso lake.
Take an evening walk in the Tawang market to shop some souvenirs before wrapping up things for the day.
Get back to the stay, rest for the night.

Day 6 - Tawang to Bomdila

Pack your bags, check out after Breakfast and say goodbye to Tawang.
We will now take our 5 hours return journey back to Bomdila pass traveling through dense forest.
Stop by at towering Nuranang waterfalls and take some pictures. On a sunny day, one can even spot a rainbow at this gushing waterfall which is usually gushing during rains.
Enroute we will also stop by at hot water springs and have Lunch at Dirang.
Reach quite, hilly town of Bomdila by evening and take a stroll in the market.
Gather at a common area to socialize one last time during the trip.
Dinner and rest for the night.

Day 7 - Bomdila to Guwahati

Check out after Breakfast at our guest house.
With all the spectacular images of Tawang valley, Buddhist culture and sweetest people fresh in our mind, we will take our return journey back to the planes of Assam. It feels like leaving a part of paradise and coming back to earth.
You may book flights after 9 PM or we shall help you with pointing a guest house in Guwahati for the night so that you could leave the next day.

Seasonal Variations:

Mid March to June: Summers are pleasant in Tawang which pull tourists in good numbers.
July to mid Sept (monsoons): The rains hit the eastern Himalayas starting from mid June. Journey would be tough during this time. We usually avoid traveling to Arunachal in these months.
Mid Sept to Nov (Post monsoon): Another good season to travel before extreme winter sets in. One can expect high tourist footfall in these months.

The itinerary is fixed. No special requests to change itinerary/schedule shall be entertained. Travellers are not allowed to advice/instruct the Organizers (Driver or Trip Leader or Operations Manager) to change the itinerary.
Cooperate with the Organizers in following the schedule set for the day (especially getting up and getting ready in the morning). This will ensure travellers won’t miss out on the real fun part that is traveling and visiting all places in itinerary.
Every traveler is responsible for his/her for your own safety. Do not indulge in any illegal or silly activity that causes harm to self or fellow travelers.
Do not wander into the forest away from the designated trail for treks. There may be snakes, scorpions, and dangerous animals.
Unexpected situations: In rare scenarios, we might not be able to cover all the places mentioned in the itinerary because of unpredictable reasons like bad weather, landslides, wild animal presence, abrupt blocking of sites by the police/forest/local authorities, delay in travel because of an issue with our group itself, traffic conditions, etc. In most cases, if the time permits, the Organizers will take travelers to an alternative place. But in some cases, we may have to skip places altogether.
No alcohol & smoking during travel, treks, and other outdoor activities. There would be a separate window and space (usually at night) to have these at the stays for interested people.
Travelers are expected to respect each other and help one another. Avoid discussing sensitive matters like sex, politics, and religion/caste/race.
Using foul or abusive language, eve-teasing, arguing with fellow travelers/Organizers, and/or involving in the physical assault will not be accepted and will stand a chance of being deserted by the group then and there.
Every traveler is expected to digitally fill & submit a liability/waiver form given by the Organizers before the trip. This liability form will discharge Muddie Trails of any unexpected incident like injury/death/theft etc.

80% refund if a cancellation request is sent 30 days before the trip start date.
50% refund if a cancellation request is sent between 30 to 15 days before the trip start date.

Muddie Trails may decide to cancel the event if there are less than 3 travelers signed up for the trip/trek.

What if we don’t get the minimum number of people for the trip? We have 2 options in this case: Option 1: Complete refund. Option 2: Switch to any other trip of the same weekend or future weekends. The difference amount will be collected from you or paid back according to the new trip cost.

Cancellation due to external factors

Muddie Trails may have to cancel the event in case of external factors that are beyond our control like Natural Disasters, Extreme Weather Conditions, Red Alerts, Political Disturbances, Bandh/Curfews, Local Issues, Road Blocks, Train cancellations, Covid-19 or any other disease outbreaks etc.

100% trip amount can be used for any other new trip of the same weekend or future weekends. The difference amount will be collected from you or paid back according to the new trip cost.

How to reach Tawang?

Tawang is accessible by land on trips of no less than 10 hours from different parts of the country. From Tezpur, for example, the road is 12 hours, and from Guwahati, 16 hours. Airport Pickup, Guwahati to Kaziranga (240km/5hrs)

After picking you up at the Guwahati airport we will take you straight to Kaziranga. Kaziranga National Park – a world heritage site located in Assam is famous for the one horned rhinoceros. With an area of 430 square kilometers a number it is home to a number of wildlife species including migratory birds. The stay will be at Kaziranga.

Kaziranga Sightseeing (80km/8hrs)

In the early morning we will take you to elephant safari point of the park. On the back of elephants you can have a better view of the inside of the jungle and its wild animals. After that we will take you for sightseeing of places nearby Kaziranga national park. We will show places like orchid garden, ethnic village tea garden etc. We will also take you for a jeep safari of the national park in the afternoon. The stay will be at the same hotel in Kaziranga.

Kaziranga to Dirang (280km/9hrs)

We will take you to Dirang in the morning. Dirang is a valley in the foothill ranges of Himalaya situated in Arunachal Pradesh. It is quite famous among the birders as they often come to this valley for Himalayan birding. On reaching there, we will show you the beautiful valley and the sightseeing places around Dirang. The notable places to see in Dirang are Dirang – Dzong, Tibetan villages and the architectures of the village, monastery, an old mill etc.

Dirang to Tawang (145km/7hrs)

We will start our journey towards Tawang. Before reaching Tawang, we will get many places to see on our way. We will visit those places one by one and then we will reach Tawang at last. On our way, we will show you a hot water spring just outside Dirang, Sela Pass at 13,700 feet, Sela lake, Jaswantgarh war memorial and Nuranung waterfalls. After reaching Tawang we will show you the places in Tawang. The notable places are the Tawang Monastery, Sixth Dalai Lama birthplace, Nun Monastery and rope ways to Nun Monastery, emporium, apple orchards etc. The stay will be at Tawang.

Around Tawang Sightseeing (150km/7hrs)

We will show you the places around Tawang (which are not within the vicinity of Tawang) like the India – China border at Bum La Pass, Sangester Lake, Heart Lake, Y Junction, PTSO Lake, Nagula Lake etc. We will come back to Tawang by evening. The stay will be the same hotel. Please note that if you plan to visit the international border, then make sure that you are choosing one our itineraries with at least three days’ stay in Tawang. This is because the visiting pass is difficult to obtain within a day.

Tawang to Bomdila (185km/8hrs)

We will head back towards Bomdila. Bomdila is a small town in the Himalayan valley which has a beautiful monastery to see and also there is market, where you can shop your souvenirs and enjoy the local food and culture of Arunachal Pradesh. Your stay will be at Bomdila.

Bomdila to Guwahati (350km/8hrs)

We will take you back to Guwahati. After reaching there, if there is time we will take you to show places around Guwahati like the Kamakhya, the Umananda (Smallest River Island in the world), Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Balaji temple, river cruises on Brahmaputra etc.

Guwahati Sightseeing, Airport Drop (100km/7hrs)

We will pick you up from the Hotel and drop you at Guwahati airport according to your departure time with sweet memories of the trip with Paradise Northeast.

In case you are not convinced with the new options, advance paid will be refunded to you after deducting a service charge of INR 1,000.
Hotels for each category are selected as per the budget and through our feedback system.
There is no star category hotel available in all places. However, we provide the best possible option as per your tour category.
Certain hotel may enforce special tariffs for mandatory gala/dinner on special dates like Christmas and/or New Year's Eve etc. The surcharge in the hotel tariff is not included while calculating the total cost of the package. You may need to pay additional amount for certain hotels for some special dates.
The dedicated vehicle provided to you is only to serve you the itinerary. It is not at your disposal.
As per Tawang local laws, outside vehicles are not allowed for local sightseeing. Therefore, we may have to arrange different local vehicle for Tawang sightseeing and we can’t assure about the quality of that vehicle as they provide vehicles as per their methods.
Credit Cards / Traveler's check are not freely accepted in many places.
In this region, roof carriers are not allowed in the vehicles. So, it is advised to bring luggage accordingly.
We advise you to check the temperature/weather of the places you are going to visit, and bring necessary clothes accordingly.
Woolen clothes, Jacket, Raincoat/Umbrella etc. are advisable to carry according to weather conditions.

Any extra breakfast for kids which is not mentioned has to be paid directly by guest as per the hotel policy.
