Ultimate Guide to Disney Cruise Vegan Food

Disney Cruise Vegan Food Guide

This is the ultimate guide to eating vegan on a Disney cruise! It includes options to eat at Cabanas, all of the MDR restaurants, Palo, and dessert. Plus, a printable pre-order form to help you order your meals on the ship!

A collage of pictures showing vegan food options that you can eat on a Disney Cruise.

I recently got back from my third Disney cruise and I feel pretty comfortable saying that I got to experience most of the vegan options that are offered on a Disney cruise. I was vegetarian on our first cruise and 100% vegan on the last two.

If you're interested in watching our super fun daily cruise vlogs on our youtube channel, check out our vegan Halloween on the High Seas cruise videos  and our vegan Very Merrytime Christmas cruise videos .

I want you to have the best experience eating vegan on a Disney cruise, that's why I'm sharing everything that I've learned. Don't make the same mistakes that I made, if you follow this guide you'll be good to go! Make sure you check out my list of 159 Disney Cruise Tips if this is your first cruise!

Are Disney Cruises Vegan-Friendly?

Yes, Disney cruises are extremely vegan-friendly! They truly want to please you and will go out of their way to make a delicious vegan meal for you. They offer vegan meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the buffet, quick service, and sit-down MDR restaurants.

My Disney Cruise Experience as a Vegetarian/Vegan

I've been lucky enough to go on three Disney cruises (twice on the Fantasy and once on the Magic) in the last three years and each one was fantastic but the food was different on each cruise.

I found it extremely easy to eat vegetarian on the first Disney cruise because all of the restaurants and quick service spots had at least one vegetarian option on the menu.

I was a bit worried before our last two cruises if there would be enough for us to eat on the cruise that was vegan-friendly. The first cruise we went on as vegans (in September 2018) started out a bit rough. I wasn't aware that there was a specific way that you should order so you could get vegan-friendly meals. Once I learned the right way to order, the rest of the second cruise and the entire third cruise was a breeze!

Do This as Soon as You Book a Cruise

The first thing you need to do is call Disney Cruise Line and let them know that you're vegan or have food allergies. They will put a note about your food preference on your account and that will alert the servers of your food preference before you get on the ship.

Next, join the Veg Disney Facebook group so you can ask any questions that you might have about vegan food on a Disney cruise and you'll be able to see any recent pictures of Disney cruise vegan options.

What to do When You First Get on the Ship

As soon as you board the ship, most people go to lunch at Cabanas or to one of the MDR restaurants if it's open. If you go to Cabanas (like we do), look for an employee that's wearing a headset, they will be able to help you order a special vegan meal from the chef. You can either request something from them and they will talk to the chef or the chef might come out and tell you what options they can make for you.

Vegan Food at Cabanas Buffet

Yes, Cabanas does have a few vegan as-is options on the buffet for breakfast and lunch. I would recommend always pre-ordering a vegan meal for breakfast and lunch even if there are vegan options on the buffet.

Vegan Breakfast Options at Cabanas

There is an oatmeal bar with nuts, seeds, and dried fruit toppings. There is plenty of fruit: pineapple, grapes, papaya, watermelon, bananas, honeydew melon, and cantaloupe. The roasted potatoes are cooked in oil and so are the mushrooms. Recently, a sign has been spotted on the Fantasy at the omelet bar that says you can order a plant-based scramble with vegetables that's made with the Just Egg.

In addition to the buffet options, we always pre-ordered a seasoned tofu scramble with extra vegetables, vegan mickey waffles, and hash browns. For some reason, the Mickey waffles were never good-- they always tasted chewy and like they had been microwaved for too long.

A plate with a Mickey waffle, tofu scramble, hash brown, and a fork on a table.

Vegan Lunch Options at Cabanas

On the buffet, there are french fries, plain pasta with marinara sauce, mushroom and asparagus salad, and the salad bar are all vegan (bottom left picture). Occasionally, they have vegan Indian food on the lunch buffet but that changes daily.

Besides those options, you'll need to speak to a chef about what they can make for you or make sure to pre-order the day before if you know you'll be eating at Cabanas the next day. Besides the vegan options on the buffet, we also pre-ordered:

  • Crispy tofu nuggets
  • Vegetables hummus wraps
  • Vegetable stir-fry with noodles
  • Vegetable sushi

How to Pre-Order Your Vegan Meals

The key to having the best vegan dining experience on a Disney cruise is to pre-order your meals the night before.

On the first night of your cruise, you'll have to order off the dinner menu since you just arrived that afternoon (not enough time to pre-order). Hopefully, they will be able to veganize the vegetarian option that's on the menu (each MDR has 1-2 vegetarian options on the menu). This is the first time you'll meet your serving team, so make sure you explain your dietary preferences right away so they can guide you through the menu.

Before you leave the restaurant, make sure you ask your server to see the menu for the next night. Review the menu and see if any of the vegetable-based appetizers, salads, or vegetarian entree options appeal to you.

Tell your server (nicely) exactly what you would like to eat the next day. You can politely request for them to prepare a vegan version of almost anything vegetable-based on the menu for dinner the next night. If you don't care for anything on the menu, you can request something else within reason.

After our first vegan cruise, I found that it was much easier to write down my food requests (for the next day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on this pre-order form that I made and give it to our head server each night at dinner. The head server then passed my order on to the chef and they actually thanked us for writing it out because it made it easier for them to know exactly what we wanted and where we would be eating.

Pro Tip - I noticed that some nights they brought out family-sized portions of meals that I pre-ordered. If you don't want enough for the table to share, make sure you make a note on the pre-order form how many portions you would like.

A hand holding a menu pre-order form that has has meal orders written on it during a Disney cruise.

You can get my pre-order menu form, here .

If you leave hungry as we did on the first night, you can always go to the quick-service restaurant (located on the pool deck) and order a vegetable burger with fries or vegan pizza. If you'd like pizza, make sure you ask for vegan cheese and extra vegetables. For some reason, they only had yellow cheddar slices available. It looks odd but tasted pretty good!

MDR Restaurants Vegan Options

On our second Disney cruise (the first cruise as vegans), we only ordered off the menu for dinner each night at the Main Dining Room (MDR) restaurants because we didn't know that we could request anything else. All of the dinner menus had vegetarian options and some were vegan as is. They were able to veganize some of the vegetarian options for us.

Here are some of the menu items that we ordered off the menu (from top left to bottom right):

  • Cucumber roll
  • Samosas (without the yogurt dipping sauce)
  • Salad (We also loved the spinach salad with raspberry vinaigrette)
  • Quinoa fennel salad
  • Couscous salad with hummus
  • Pumpkin curry with jasmine rice, spinach, and asparagus
  • Pearl barley cakes
  • Grilled tofu with vegetables and pearl couscous
  • Spicy black bean cakes with rice

A photo collage of vegan food options available on a Disney cruise.

We learned on our third cruise that in addition to ordering veganized versions of entrees off the menu you could request specific dishes that weren't on the menu. We already knew they could make certain entrees from our previous cruises so it was awesome to be able to request some of our favorite items like the samosas and mushroom soup. I pre-ordered the samosas every night of the cruise-- they are delicious!

  • Falafel wraps with hummus and pita bread
  • Spicy tofu ramen noodle bowls
  • Sauteed veggies with tofu (request that the tofu is crispy, our was soft and unseasoned)
  • Mushroom soup

Disney Cruise Indian Food

After our first vegan Disney cruise, we learned that you can pre-order Indian food with your choice of protein. I wish we had known about this option on our first vegan cruise because the Indian food that we had on our second vegan cruise was fantastic! I loved every single dish!

A photo collage of Indian food available on a Disney cruise.

We tried (from top left to bottom right):

  • Mushroom pea curry
  • Eggplant curry
  • Red lentil dahl
  • Spicy red curry tofu with crispy naan bread
  • Vegetable curry with jasmine rice and sauteed spinach
  • Lentil curry with jasmine rice

Disney Cruise  Vegan Palo Options

We also went to Palo brunch while on the cruise and they did have multiple vegan options on the buffet!

  • Marinated artichokes
  • Fresh fruit
  • Roasted endive
  • Roasted vegetable stack
  • Cucumber salad
  • Mushroom salad

The tomato soup is the only vegan option on the menu but they did make me a vegetable pasta dish that was very tasty. For dessert, there are no vegan options on the buffet but they made me a strawberry basil sorbet and it was the best sorbet I've ever tasted in my life! I definitely didn't leave hungry and I would go back again in heartbeat!

A collage of photos showing the vegan food options available at Palo brunch on a Disney cruise.

We didn't go to Palo dinner on either vegan cruise so I can't tell you for sure what vegan options they might be able to prepare. However, I'd probably guess that it would be very similar to the brunch options.

If you're vegetarian, I can highly recommend the portobello mushroom with polenta. I ordered this vegetarian option off the menu on our first cruise (when I was just vegetarian) and it was one of my favorite meals I've ever had!

Vegan Castaway Cay Options

Eating vegan at Castaway Cay is very easy to do as long as you pre-order your meal the night before! If you don't pre-order your meal, they do have vegetable burgers available upon request but they will most likely cook it on a shared grill. There is a large fruit bar available at each of the Cookies BBQ locations that are safe for you to eat from but there's not much else.

We always preorder a vegetable burger, a greek salad with tofu, couscous vegetable salad, and fruit.

Dairy-Free Ice Cream & Desserts

The eye scream ice cream machines that are on the pool deck of the Disney cruise ships are not vegan. However, you can get dairy-free rice cream or raspberry sorbet at the dessert counter in Cabanas during lunch. You can also preorder vegan ice cream for dessert at dinner.

A collage of photos that shows the vegan dessert options on a Disney cruise.

Here are all of the desserts that we tried (from top left to bottom right):

  • Chocolate lava cake
  • Mango mousse with coconut whipped cream
  • Raspberry sorbet
  • Enjoy Life Snickerdoodles
  • "Happy Birthday" chocolate cake
  • Mango pudding with fresh strawberries

The chocolate cakes were hit or miss, one night it was delicious and the other three times I ordered it it was tough and rubbery. I loved the mango mousse (on the Fantasy) and mango pudding (on the Magic). Raspberry sorbet or fresh fruit are offered for dessert at all of the MDR restaurants or you can pre-order the chocolate cake or mango mousse.

The Enjoy Life cookies are what they brought when I called room service and asked if they had any vegan cookies. I wasn't sure what was going to show up, but they were delicious and it was a nice surprise that they brought a whole box!

There are also a few vegan options at "Sweet on You" on the Fantasy.

What About Coffee Creamer?

I know coffee creamer may seem trivial but as a person who drinks a cup of coffee every morning, having my favorite vegan coffee creamer is important! Disney cruise ships only carry almond milk (as of 12/15/18) to use as a substitute coffee creamer.

To be honest, it's not great. I dealt with it on our first cruise but I didn't want to do it again so I brought my own creamer for the next two cruises!

We live within driving distance of Port Canaveral so I put a sealed bottle of my favorite unsweetened Ripple coffee creamer in a soft top lunch box with a small ice pack and carried it on board with me.

I was prepared to explain my dietary issue if the security people asked why I had it but nobody said anything. I carried it on board with no issues and put it in the mini-fridge in my room. It worked perfectly!

Even if you don't live close as we do, you could make a quick stop at a grocery store on the way to the port to pick up a new bottle of your favorite coffee creamer to use on the ship. It's worth it!

Which Disney Cruise Ship Had Better Food?

That's a really tough call because our first two cruises were on the Fantasy and at that time we didn't know how to pre-order properly. We only had one dinner that wasn't great on the Fantasy and that was my fault for not pre-ordering the night before.

Everything else that we ate on both ships was delicious! Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either ship. I truly felt that they wanted to please us and make sure that we ate exactly what we wanted.

Is Disney The Best Cruise Line For Food Allergies?

I haven't been on any other cruise lines to compare. We're afraid to book anything but Disney because we don't want to be disappointed! If you have tried other cruise lines while being vegan, please leave a comment and share your experience with us!

Is a Disney Cruise Worth it for Vegans?

In my opinion, yes, it's definitely worth it! All three of the Disney cruises that we went on were the best vacations of my life! As I said, there was only one meal that wasn't great and it was my fault that it turned out like that.

If you do your research about what to order, use the pre-order form that I linked above, and communicate your dietary needs (food preference or allergy) with your server then it will be smooth sailing!

Disney makes it so easy and they have so many options for vegans, I bet there will be even more new options by the time you get on the ship. I hope you have the best time on your vacation and eat tons of delicious food for me!

Thank you for all of this information! We are going on our first Disney cruise next spring and our family is plant-based. One question I have is how did you know what options were available for pre-order so you could fill out your list for the server? Also, is breakfast always at Cabanas or are there other options? Thank you!!!

Hi, Lisa! It's been a few years since we went on our last cruise, so I'm not sure if anything has changed since then. But at that time, our server would show us the menu the night before so we could pick out what menu items we wanted for the next day. I liked to write it down for them just to keep it organized and it seemed to work out well that way.

They also told us that we could request items that we had already had on previous days even if it wasn't on the menu for that day. That's how I ate samosas and mushroom soup almost every day of the cruise! LOL

They are very accommodating and helpful. We had plenty to eat and there were lots of choices at Cabana's. We went to Cabana's most days for breakfast and lunch, but I'm pretty sure I remember the regular restaurants having plant-based options for breakfast and lunch too. I just liked the buffet. Hope that helps!

Thanks...this is so helpful. We love Disney Cruises but I was concerned that it might not be worth it now that we are all plant-based.

Thank you for the info on vegan food. We where on the Fantasy last year & loved it. Though my child is now vegan & I really want to make sure she can eat on the ship. I did call ahead to see if they have almond milk & other items on board. Though they couldn't really tell me the menu options. I'm going to call another number to follow up. Your info on menu items to order & ask for is very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to do this.

I'm so happy to help, Summer! I can tell you that they did have almond milk and soy milk available on all three of our cruises. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! I'm sure your child will have no problems eating vegan on your cruise, they have so many options now! I hope you have the best time on your next cruise!

Things to Know Before You Cruise

Vegan Eats On Disney Cruises: tips & Menu Options

As a vegan, I always worry about finding food options when I travel. So, when I planned my Disney Cruise, I was concerned about what I would eat. I was relieved to find out that while Disney Cruise Ships don’t offer vegan menus, they are still accommodating to plant-based diets.

In this article, I’ll share my tips and menu options for vegans on Disney cruises, so you can have a stress-free and enjoyable trip.

If you’re worried about not having any vegan options, don’t be. Disney Cruise Ships have plenty of delicious plant-based meals available. While they don’t have vegan menus, they do have menu labeling, which makes it easy to identify vegetarian and vegan options. You can also adjust dishes to fit your dietary needs, and the crew is always willing to help.

Plus, there are even some secret vegan options that you might not know about. So, let’s dive into the tips and menu options for vegans on Disney cruises, so you can enjoy your trip to the fullest.

  • Disney Cruise Ships do not offer a vegan menu, but there are usually one vegan starter and main in each menu.
  • Chefs are happy to adjust almost any of the dishes on the standard menu to make them suitable for vegans, but not every crew member is trained about vegan diets.
  • Pre-ordering your vegan food will give you a wider choice of options and less of a wait, especially if you plan to eat in the main restaurants at breakfast or lunch.
  • Disney Cruise Line chefs will make anything within reason that your child asks for, and there are plenty of vegan options available for kids.

No Vegan Menus Offered

I’ve learned that on Disney Cruise Ships, there aren’t specific vegan menus offered. However, as a vegan myself, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the chefs are more than willing to accommodate and adjust dishes to make them suitable for vegans.

This is great news for anyone with dietary restrictions who may be worried about finding suitable food options while on a Disney cruise. If you’re a vegan planning a Disney cruise, I recommend doing some meal planning in advance to ensure you have the best experience possible.

You can use the Disney Navigator app to view menus during your cruise, but it’s also important to communicate with your server and ask which items on the menu are suitable for vegans. Pre-ordering your vegan food will give you a wider choice of options and less of a wait, especially if you’re planning to eat in the main restaurants at breakfast or lunch.

Overall, with a little bit of planning and communication with the crew on board, you can enjoy a delicious vegan meal on a Disney cruise.

Menu Labeling

The labeling of dishes on the Disney Cruise Line menus can be hit or miss when it comes to identifying suitable options for plant-based eaters like myself.

While there is usually one labeled vegan starter and main in each menu, the labeling can be inconsistent and lack clarity. This can make it difficult to know which dishes are safe to eat, and impact the overall dining experience.

However, I found that communicating with my server and asking about suitable options was key. The chefs were happy to adjust dishes to make them vegan-friendly, and there were even some secret options available like vegan sausage and avocado toast.

Pre-ordering meals also gave me more options and reduced the wait time. While the menu labeling can be improved, I appreciated the effort made by the crew to accommodate my dietary needs.

Adjusting Dishes for Vegans

When requesting adjustments to my meal, the chefs on the Disney Cruise Line were able to create delicious plant-based dishes that were both visually appealing and satisfying to eat. They were very accommodating and eager to make sure I had a meal that fit my dietary needs.

I was impressed with their creativity in making vegan versions of dishes that were not originally vegan, such as a tofu stir-fry that was full of flavor and texture.

The experience of having vegan meals on a Disney cruise was not only about the food itself, but also about the sense of community that came with it. During my trip, I had the opportunity to attend vegan cooking classes and take part in vegan-friendly excursions. These activities allowed me to connect with other like-minded individuals and learn more about the vegan lifestyle.

Overall, I found the vegan options on the Disney Cruise Line to be plentiful and enjoyable, and I’d definitely recommend the experience to other vegans looking for a unique and satisfying vacation.

Secret Vegan Options

To discover more plant-based dishes on a Disney cruise, it’s worth asking the server about secret menu items like avocado toast, vegan omelettes, and Mickey waffles. These vegan cruise hacks can help you find hidden plant-based dishes that aren’t listed on the regular menu.

Chefs on board are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions, so don’t be afraid to ask for modifications or substitutions to make a dish vegan. In addition to the secret vegan options, there are also some fresh and healthy choices available on the pool deck, like fruit cups and salads.

And if you’re feeling adventurous, try asking for a custom vegan dish at Cabanas buffet, where the head chef is willing to whip up something fresh and delicious. With a little bit of communication and creativity, you can enjoy a variety of plant-based meals on your Disney cruise.

Pre-Ordering for Wider Choices

I always pre-order my vegan breakfast and lunch on a Disney cruise to have a wider range of delicious plant-based dishes to choose from. Pre-cruise communication is essential to ensure that the chef is aware of your special dietary requirements. You can email [email protected] with your reservation details, dietary needs, and contact information.

The information will then be passed on to the ship’s head chef, who will arrange to meet with you on embarkation day to discuss your requirements and any menus you would like to pre-order. Pre-ordering your vegan food also means less of a wait and a more relaxed dining experience.

If you have certain foods that you enjoy or prefer, make sure to mention them to the chef during your pre-cruise communication. Chefs are happy to adjust almost any of the dishes on the standard menu to make them suitable for vegans.

Here are five items that I always pre-order for my vegan breakfast and lunch on a Disney cruise:

  • Vegan omelette
  • Vegan sausage
  • Avocado on toast
  • Fresh fruit platter
  • Vegan Mickey waffles

By pre-ordering your vegan meals, you can guarantee that you will have a wide variety of options to choose from. Don’t be afraid to communicate your needs and preferences to the crew on board, as they’re always happy to help cater to your dietary requirements.

Dessert Options

Now that we’ve discussed the benefits of pre-ordering your meals, let’s talk about dessert options on Disney cruises.

Unfortunately, none of the desserts on the menu are suitable for vegans. However, don’t let that discourage you! There are plenty of vegan dessert suggestions and creative alternatives available.

During my cruise, my waiter cheerfully offered to bring me a surprise vegan dessert, which ended up being a poached pear with raspberry sorbet. It was a refreshing and light option that satisfied my sweet tooth.

Additionally, some of the restaurants had fresh fruit and sorbet available for dessert. If you’re looking for something more decadent, be sure to communicate with your server and the chef. They may be able to create a custom vegan dessert just for you. Don’t be afraid to ask!

Restaurant Reviews

While dining at Rapunzel’s Royal Table, I was pleasantly surprised to find a good selection of vegan eats for breakfast. They had egg-free omelettes, vegan sausage, mushrooms, and avocado. The restaurant ambiance was enchanting with a stunning chandelier and Rapunzel-themed decor. The service quality was excellent, with our server being knowledgeable about vegan options and happy to make adjustments to suit our dietary needs.

Unfortunately, dinner at Rapunzel’s Royal Table did not have any vegan options on the menu. However, the pretzel bread was the best bread I had ever tasted. Lumieres had an Impossible Cheeseburger and a grilled marinated tofu dish that was accidentally vegan. The restaurant had a romantic ambiance with elegant furnishings and a relaxed atmosphere. The service quality was excellent, with our server being attentive and accommodating to our dietary requirements.

Kid’s Dining Options

Fresh fruit in the shape of a boat and pasta, pizza, vegetables, salad, fries, and mashed potatoes are all available as vegan options for kids’ dining on Disney cruise ships. As a vegan mom, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my picky eater kids had several options to choose from during the breakfast and lunch hours.

The Disney Cruise Line chefs will make anything vegan-friendly that your child asks for, and they even offer plant-based chilli dogs and egg-free omelettes. For breakfast, my kids loved the Mickey waffles, vegan sausage, and sides. We also tried the vegan tomato pasta and vegan mashed potatoes that we requested from the chefs.

For lunch, the pasta, pizza, salad, and fries were the go-to options for my children. The chefs are always ready to whip up something fresh and vegan upon request. Overall, I was impressed with the vegan options for breakfast and lunch on Disney cruises.

Dairy-Free Alternatives

I was happy to discover that there are plenty of dairy-free alternatives available on Disney cruise ships. As someone who avoids dairy, it was reassuring to know that I could still enjoy my meals without any worry. Almond milk and soya milk were readily available as non-dairy milk options, which I appreciated. Additionally, vegan butter or margarine could be requested to replace traditional butter.

Another great option for dairy-free eaters were the vegan cheese alternatives. Although not listed on the menus, I found that chefs were happy to accommodate my request for vegan cheese. This made eating at the various restaurants on board a lot easier, as I could still enjoy dishes that typically contained cheese without any problems. Overall, I was impressed with the range of dairy-free options available on Disney cruise ships, making it a great choice for those with dietary restrictions.

Communication with Crew

Communication with the crew on board is essential to ensure that dietary needs are met and that meals are enjoyable on a Disney cruise. As a vegan, it’s important to speak up and let the crew know about any dietary restrictions or preferences. This will allow them to cater to your needs and provide you with a wider range of options.

When making vegan meal requests, it’s important to note that not every crew member is trained about vegan diets. Therefore, it’s essential to communicate your needs clearly and politely. Additionally, pre-ordering your meals will give you a better chance of having a wider range of options and a shorter wait time.

Lastly, if you encounter any issues with your meals, it’s important to speak to the crew and let them know so that they can address the issue and provide you with a more enjoyable dining experience.

When it comes to special events and themed dining experiences on Disney Cruises, there are vegan options available. Chefs can accommodate dietary restrictions, and communication with crew is key. Enjoy a worry-free and delicious dining experience on board.

Looking for vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free dining options on your Disney cruise ? I've got you covered with this comprehensive guide that covers it all!

Indulge in a variety of amazing vegetarian, plant-based or gluten free meals. The accommodations for all dietary preferences on a Disney cruise are second to none!

This post was sponsored by Disney Parks but the content and opinions expressed are fully my own.

The chefs pay special attention to all dietary needs and take them very serisously. Sail away worry-free and enjoy the ultimate culinary experience with our vegan and gluten-free options.

Disney cruises are truly magical experiences that offer those on board the opportunity to sail away to exotic destinations, indulge in delicious dining options, and make unforgettable memories.

For those with dietary restrictions or food allergies, it can be daunting to consider eating on a cruise. However, Disney Cruise Line is committed to providing exceptional dining experiences for all guests, including those with special dietary needs.

With a variety of options, ranging from vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free and even halal, there is something for everyone on board. And the special care they take to accommodate guests is second to none!

Every time I ordered from a quick service counter, I was personally attended to by a manager or head chef. They asked me all of my info and then wrote up a special ticket with my order.

When they made my food they made special precautions to avoid any cross contamination and ensure I got the dietary attention I needed.

Another cruise guest who ate halal had the same incredible experience. She let them know before the cruise and every night their servers made sure to cater to their dietary needs perfectly.

Vegan and Gluten Free Options

The experience I am sharing focuses on the Disney Wonder ship. While all Disney Cruise Line ships take the same precautions, the detailed options are from the Wonder only.

I focused on my gluten free needs and Joe mostly ate vegetarian. The kids ate a wide variety of meals.

You can also read about our experience with vegan options and Disney Parks and Gluten free options at Disney parks along with all the options for the Disney Food and Wine Festival .

These counter service food options were a great way to grab a quick bite. While there are dinners set and planned each night, breakfast and lunch are on your own.

Every service counter offered gluten free options for most things. They easily swapped bread for gluten free versions, and pizza crust for gluten free pizza crust.

They also had dairy free cheeses to swap into any item with cheese. And dairy free milk options too.

Daisy's De-Lites

This was a counter service place that had healthier options like sandwiches, salads and a make your own bowl area. I loved the make your own bowls because you could pick a base and build from there!

  • a variety of sandwiches
  • daily soups
  • build your own bowls with picking a base and loading with toppings and sauces

There were tons of gluten free options in the make your own bar, I lived the quinoa base the best.

A white sign with orange writing saying Daisy over a sandwich counter service cafe.

Pete's Boiler Bites

This was a grill quick service area that had specials that changed each day. One day they had a plant based BBQ slaw dog that was so good! Other things you can order are:

  • veggie burgers (not gluten free)
  • fish burgers
  • chicken tenders

They had gluten free buns for anything you ordered!

A yellow sign with pipes framed around with grey writing saying Boiler Bites and a list of items under.

Pinocchio's Pizzeria

This was a make your own pizza bar or you can get premade pizza by the slice. They had both a gluten free pizza crust option and a dairy free cheese option. Plus loads of toppings to pick from.

A chef handing someone a pizza on a yellow plate over a glass covered counter.

Cabanas Buffet (breakfast and lunch)

The buffet was all encompassed. It had just about everything and anything you could want, but the mickey waffles at breakfast were a huge favorite for the kids!

Here is a sample of what you can find for breakfast:

  • eggs, scrambles, etc
  • sausage, bacon, etc
  • breakfast potatoes and hashbrowns
  • breads, bagels, biscuits
  • donuts, muffins, etc
  • asian style breakfast items
  • smoked salmon

Although you have some gluten free options (like fruit, vegetable, eggs or meats) and some vegan options (oatmeal bar, fruit, veggies) you can always pre order a gluten free or vegan breakfast to make it easier. They have vegan egg options and loads of gluten free options for the breads, etc.

Here is a sample of what you can find for lunch:

  • chicken nuggets
  • french fries
  • mac and cheese
  • sandwiches and wraps
  • grilled meats
  • assorted baked goods and desserts

Some of the things are gluten free by default (grilled meats, veggies, salad) and some vegan (salad, pasta, veggies) but pre ordering is the best way to ensure you get something you like. Things like veggie sandwiches and wraps, vegan chicken nuggets, stir fries, etc.

Eye Scream Treats

This area was a soft serve machine with a variety of flavors, with a special flavor each day. You could get cones or cups.

This did not have a dairy free option but you can get dairy free ice cream or sorbet in the buffet area!

Sulley's Sips

The smoothies here were really good! I loved the juice tonic packed with greens, it was actually much better than anticipated! You can also add plant based protein powder for a great filling breakfast or snack.

Here are some of the smoothies they had:

  • Juice tonic
  • Fruit palace
  • Super berry

But one of my favorites was the Dole Whip with a rum floater! You can get it without too but the added rum made a great adult cocktail to sip by the pool. They also had coffees and ice teas.

A blue sign of Sulley from Monsters inc with menu items for smoothies.

One of the best things on the Disney Wonder was all the snack stations around the ship. From popcorn stands to mini snack bars. There was always something for everyone! The popcorn is vegan and gluten free friendly.

A boy in a grey shirt and jeans in front of a red tablecloth covered table with a popcorn machine on top.

Bars and Coffee Shops

Along with snack bars around the ship, there were also a handful of bars to grab cocktails and one amazing Coffee shop called Cove Cafe!

Our favorite cocktail was the Frose (a frozen rose drink made with strawberries). I love making them at home so when I saw it on the menu I had to try it. It was fantastic and not overly sweet!

The coffee shop not only had plenty of dairy free milk options, but also made these awesome Mickey and Minnie characters on the top! It was a machine that did it but we were blown away.

All of these places had plenty of both gluten free and vegan options.

A dark grey counter top with a variety of colorful drinks and signs in front of each one.

Room Service

Ordering food to your room was also included in our cruise. Just like in a hotel room, you can dial room service and order anything you want off the menu. A little tip is that you can order a mickey ice cream bar any time all day!

The room service menu options had many gluten free and vegan options from breakfast to lunch and dinner.

Along with being able to order food to your room at any time, we also get little treats each night of the cruise. If you have specific dietary needs make sure you let your stateroom attendant know.

A while plate with four macarons in peach and pink colors and a chocolate circle on top.

Each night on a Disney cruise you select a dinner seating time, our choices were 5:45 or 8:15. For each seating, you rotate around to the different restaurants.

We started with Triton's, then went to Animators Palace and did it again for Pirate Night, and the last night we ate at Tiana's. There is also a fourth option, Palo, but this is an extra cost option that you book on your own.

Every single restaurant had multiple vegan and gluten free options to choose from. They also were able to modify many items to be vegan, vegetarian or gluten free.

This main dining room is on the upscale side. It features American food with a French flair. Menu options include:

  • appetizers including duck, lobster and shrimp, escargot, and brie
  • French country bread with olive spread
  • deserts including soufflé, crème brûlée, tart, and sundae

For vegan and vegetarian options they had an impossible burger, mushroom pasta, and grilled tofu. In the past menus have included vegetarian stir-fries and falafel.

Many of the entrees were gluten free, as well as the duck confit and lobster and shrimp appetizers. The leek and potato soup and the pear salad were also featured without gluten.

A white plate with a green salad topped with radish slices and a whiteish dressing.

Animator's Palate

This super fun restaurant featured a savory fusion of Pacific Island, Asian, and California flavors. Other than the yummy food, the unique dinner show was a blast!

  • appetizers like smoked salmon tartare and serrano ham
  • focaccia with roasted garlic dip
  • desserts were cake, cheesecake, pudding, and a sundae

The vegetarian appetizers and mains when we went were Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes and a Tomato Tarte, and Black Bean Chipotle Cakes and Halloumi.

A number of the mains were already gluten free, as were a couple salads, and the potato cheddar soup.

Top view of a white plate with Mickey shaped holes filled with pasta, apple slices and broccoli.

Tiana's Place

While we wait for the restaurant at the parks to open, we can already get a taste on the Disney cruises! Enjoy the jazz music and story telling while you enjoy the fabulous Southern cooking.

  • appetizers include sausage fritters, a cajun charcuterie platter, and shrimp and grits
  • tomato soup
  • brioche with roasted onion dip
  • desserts were beignets, layered sponge, bread pudding, and a sundae

The vegetarian items on the menu were an artichoke ravioli and roasted butternut squash. We also tried some amazing vegan Indian dishes that our waiter brought us to try and they were delicious! My fave was a curry with eggplant and rice.

There was a gluten free tuna tartar for an appetizer, a seafood pepper pot, wedge salad, shrimp salad, lobster salad, and entrees, even gluten free beignets and New Orleans Bananas Foster Sundae!

A boy in a purple polo shirt and jeans under a sign saying Tiana's on a bring wall.

This is an adults only upscale restaurant that offers Italian food with a modern twist. We didn't go this time around but the menu includes:

  • caprese salad
  • antipasta salad
  • other salads
  • desserts like a cheese plate, soufflés, a tart, tiramisu, and panna cotta

Vegetarian options include a grilled mushroom and saffron arancini. While a variety of entrees, sides, and salads are gluten free. Speak with your server to discuss more options, or order ahead to ensure you get what you want!

Another thing you can do on a Disney cruise is book special experiences. From a brunch at Palo to cocktail tastings and mixology classes, there are many options for all types of dietary preferences.

The experience we chose was a chocolate and wine tasing. There were options for dark chocolate to meet the needs of those who don't consume dairy. It was super informative and delicious!

A couple sitting on a red couch in front of two low tables with lined up wine glasses and chocolates on them.

  • Disney cruises do a great job of providing multiple options for plant based, gluten free, and other dietary preferences. However it's still important to talk to each restaurant and counter you eat at to communicate your dietary needs.
  • Be sure to let restaurant staff or chefs know that you a need vegan or gluten free options, and ask about their procedures to prevent cross-contamination if you are concerned about that. If you say you have an allergy, versus a preference, a chef will come out to talk to you personally.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions, they're all more than willing to help you find vegan and gluten free options. You can even ask for the specific ingredient information.
  • When your food is served, especially at quick service spots, you can also double check with the cast member that is handing it to you that it is vegan or gluten free.
  • Some menus and menu items have distinctions to address certain diets, but make sure to ask the cast member what the distinctions mean for that item.

While accommodating dietary preferences is amazing for those that have medical or personal reasons for eating a certain way, Disney also makes other efforts to be environmentally friendly.

Here are a few things they do that blew me away:

  • Their fireworks are made from biodegradable material
  • All ships have dedicated Environmental Officers
  • the ships save all of the used cooking oil to recycle in ports of call. How amazing is this, in the Bahamas they convert the oil into biodiesel fuel for local vehicles!
  • The water that is collected from the air conditioning condensation is recycled onboard for other uses like laundry.
  • And easy and simple yet effective, both trash and recycling bins are available in each room!

Are There Vegetarian Dining Options on the Disney Cruise Line Ships?

vegetarian

Disney is great at pleasing everyone when it comes to dining, especially aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships. If your picky little one only wants to eat chicken tenders – the wait staff has you covered. If you have allergies , have no worries. And for those looking to get a vegetarian meal, Disney Cruise Line has you covered as well!

I am certainly no vegetarian, but on the Alaskan cruise that my family took in August we sampled entrees from every section of the menu – just to be thorough. That’s right, there is an entire vegetarian and lighter options section on the menu, not just one option among the regular menu options!

Some examples of the vegetarian options that may be available on your cruise at the main dining restaurants are:

  • St. Marteen Stack – Grilled Calabaza, Zucchini, and Mozzarella with Tomato Basil Vinaigrette.
  • Grilled Marinated Tofu , Roasted Zucchini, Eggplant, and Red Peppers – on Israeli Couscous with a Lime-Cilantro Drop.
  • Wild Mushroom-Stuffed Pasta in a Vegetable Broth – Topped with Watercress, shaved Parmesan cheese and Paprika Oil Drizzle.
  • Pabbi’s Stuffed Cabbage Roulades – Savoy Cabbage stuffed with Brown Rice, Asparagus, Leeks, Carrots, and Lingonberry served with a Dill Cream Sauce.
  • Bulda’s Vegetable Lattice – Celeriac, Carrots, Spinach and Shallots, Baled in Puff Pastry served with a White Wine Thyme Cream Sauce.
  • Spiced Tofu Katsu – with Bok Choy, Diakon, and Sweet Chili Sauce.
  • Tofu Pot Pie – with Seasonal Vegetables and a light Herb Cream Reduction.
  • Wild Mushroom and Sweet Onion Strudel – Sautéed Mushrooms, Sweet Onions, Spinach and Tofu wrapped in Phyllo Dough with an Herb Reduction.

There are also tons of options at the on board buffets, the quick service restaurants on the pool deck, and at Palo and Remy. Room service also offers vegetarian options like a Tomato Basil and Mozzarella Panini and Mac and Cheese.

If there isn’t anything that you think you’d like to eat on the menu the galley and wait staff will make it so you received something that you think is delectable. Have no fear they will make sure that you don’t go hungry.

Have you tried some of the vegetarian options aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship? What was your favorite? Let us know in the comments!

Disney’s New Wish Cruise Ship Will Offer Vegan Options at Every Restaurant

Disney’s New Wish Cruise Ship Will Offer Vegan Options at Every Restaurant

Disney wish—the newest ship to join the disney cruise fleet—will offer vegan options at every restaurant aboard when it sets sail in 2022. .

by Anna Starostinetskaya

April 30, 2021

Disney’s newest cruise ship, Disney Wish, will feature vegan options in every restaurant, according to Forbes . The new ship will join the Disney Cruise Fleet next year, with its maiden voyage planned to depart on June 9, 2022 from Port Canaveral, FL to the Bahamas. “Each and every one of our menus will have vegan offerings. Taking care of allergies and special requirements is extremely important to us,” Disney Cruise Line stated. “We want families to sail with peace of mind.” While details of the vegan menus aboard the Disney Wish are still under wraps, Disney cruises have always offered vegan options upon request and added a few new plant-based dishes to its other cruise ships in 2019, including Plant-Based Eggs, Plant-Based Chili Dog, and Chocolate Truffle Cake.

The Disney Wish features three new restaurant concepts: the dinner-and-show eatery Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure (where guests will be a part of the Frozen -themed performance premised on the engagement party of Queen Anna and Kristoff with vegan options inspired by Nordic cuisine); Worlds of Marvel (where diners are invited to interact with an Avengers adventure while sampling foods from the locales of the Marvel Cinematic Universe); and upscale restaurant 1923 (named after the year The Walt Disney Company was founded), a Hollywood glamour-themed eatery offering world cuisine-inspired meals paired with Napa Valley wines.

Plant-based at Disney

In 2020, Disney announced a partnership with Impossible Foods , making the Impossible Burger Disney’s “Preferred Plant-Based Burger.” The partnership will result in the addition of the plant-based burger to all Disney properties, including Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and Disney Cruise Lines.

In addition to partnering with Impossible Foods, Disney has made strides in adding other plant-based options to its menus. In 2019, Disney added 400 plant-based dishes to its Disney World Resort in Florida and expanded them to its Disneyland Resort in California, and Disney-owned hotels in those areas along with international Disney properties. While Dole Whip has been a favorite vegan treat at Disney parks, guests can now indulge in more substantial offerings such as the “all-you-can-enjoy” skillet meal filled with an array of vegan meats at Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge; soy chorizo-topped Potato Flautas at Disney’s California Adventure; Risotto-Style Spelt with Mushrooms at Disneyland Paris; and much more.

Eating Plant-Based on the Disney Dream

If you ask someone about their Disney Cruise , I guarantee they will very quickly share anecdote after anecdote about the amazing food they enjoyed while onboard.

Cucumber Garden Roll from the Enchanted Garden on the Disney Dream

Along with entertainment, character greetings, and port adventures, dining is a prevalent experience when sailing with Disney Cruise Line but as someone who eats exclusively plant-based I was a little hesitant about what dining would be like for me on the Disney Dream .

Overall, I will say that Disney truly tries their best to accommodate all dietary needs and happily assists with any questions concerning restrictions or allergens. However, I found that the standard menu offerings at all onboard locations on the Disney Dream were not particularly plentiful for plant-based eaters. This is where the magic and dedication of Disney Cast Members truly shines and where planning and research on the part of the guest goes a long way.

Waterslide on the Disney Dream

Here are 4 quick tips for eating plant-based on the Disney Dream

  • Pre-order your meals . Each night after dinner, our head server would ask what I wanted for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next day. While the available alternate options are not especially diverse, it does help to have a game plan to ease your dining experience.

Please join me as I outline my dining experiences at the buffet-style eatery Cabanas, each of the three rotational restaurants (Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Palace), Palo, and more while sailing on the Disney Dream!

Disney Dream

Day 1 – Lunch at Cabanas

Dining area at Cabanas on the Disney Dream

Once onboard, our team decided to meet at Cabanas for lunch. I was fortunate enough to travel with my wonderful teammate Meagan who happens to have an allergy to wheat and gluten, which means that I had a buddy to navigate the whole “dietary restriction while dining at sea thing” with.

While our Cruise Specialist had previously made note of our dietary restrictions, Meagan and I found our first dining experience aboard the Dream to be a little confusing. After giving the food stations a cursory look ourselves, we deduced that there really were not options there for either of us. The stations were not clearly labelled with dietary needs in mind, such as with a gluten-free or plant-based symbol as you can often find on signage and menus at Walt Disney World Resorts and at the Parks.

We approached a Cast Member who was admittedly unsure of how to best help us at first, but who then instructed us to write down anything that appealed to us at the buffets and they would see if the items could be made to accommodate us. After giving the server our request forms, we joined the rest of our team outside on the deck. While it did take a bit longer to receive our meals, the same Cast Member delivered multiple options right to the table for us.

pizza on the Disney Dream

I ended up being served a personal-size thin crust pizza with non-dairy cheese, a falafel salad without dressing, and plain scrambled “eggs.” While none of these options were spectacular, the effort put in by the Cast Member to ensure we had something to eat for lunch was so very appreciated.

Day 1 – Dinner at Animator’s Palate

Our first dinner was at Animator’s Palate , an imaginative venue where storyboards come to life right in front of you! After our experience at Cabanas that afternoon, Meagan and I decided to sit together for ease of communication with our serving team for the remainder of the cruise.

bread basket from Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

For an appetizer, I was served the Arugula Leaves which consisted of marinated white beans, orange segments, and red beets. As the mustard dressing that traditionally comes on the salad is not plant-based, I was given oil and vinegar; this was common for all salads I ate on the ship as none of the standard dressings accommodate those with plant-based dietary restrictions.

salad from Animator’s Palate

The main course was Black Bean Chipotle Cakes served over brown rice and corn kernels, with pico de gallo and a salsa drizzle. Now, I am quite a wimp when it comes to anything remotely spicy and generally skeptical when it comes to black bean dishes as they can be quite dry, but these cakes were mild yet flavorful and the salsa ensured the dish was not too dry. This was probably one of my favorite entrées onboard and I would definitely recommend it.

For dessert, our server brought out a decadent plant-based chocolate cake with strawberry mousse and fresh fruit which was absolutely delicious!

Day 2 – Brunch at Palo

On our second day, David and his wife Cathy treated us to a wonderful brunch at Palo , an exquisite dining experience that gave us the opportunity to dress up and share a very special meal together.

With nothing marked as plant-based or vegan on the menu, I was initially worried whether it would be “worth” taking me along for the meal as Palo is at an additional cost. However, as soon as we were seated our server asked if anyone had dietary restrictions or allergies and readily assisted us throughout the meal.

Quite honestly, I was advised to ignore the standard menu completely and instead let the chef conjure up some amazing plant-based dishes just for me. We started the meal with a garlic and herb infused flatbread, which was light and just perfectly toasted; this option was also gluten-free, so Meagan and I were able to share.

garlic and herb infused flatbread

From there, I was served a delicious antipasto with marinated olives, artichokes, eggplant, and zucchini. This was my first-time eating antipasto and I have to say, I felt quite fancy!

antipasto with marinated olives, artichokes, eggplant, and zucchini

While the chef was unable to accommodate my request for a plant-based Mickey waffle, I was able to enjoy fluffy blueberry pancakes for my next course.

Next up was a savoury plate of penne with tomato sauce. While quite simple, this dish was absolutely delicious and by far the best pasta I had onboard.

Penne pasta on the Disney Dream

Lastly, my dessert (because apparently, brunch on a Disney Cruise comes with dessert, which I am wholeheartedly in support of) was a raspberry sorbet served with a variety of fresh berries.

Day 2 – Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats

I don’t often feel like I’m missing out by eating plant-based but I will admit that I was pretty envious of the unlimited dairy-based soft-serve available for guests to enjoy at Eye Scream Treats. As there are no non-dairy options, I decided to take a peek inside Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats, a dessert shop inspired by the Sugar Rush game in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph .

vegan ice cream on the Disney Dream

At the time of our sailing in late April of this year, there was only one vegan ice cream flavor available, Pineapple Coconut, and there were no plant-based options in the dessert case. I ended up trying the Pineapple Coconut ice cream, but did not enjoy it very much. It was not creamy and tasted rather bland in my opinion. I would not recommend the current plant-based options here, especially since anything purchased at Vanellope’s is at an additional cost. That said, the shop itself can be a great spot for fun photos with King Candy, Vanellope, and her race car!

Day 2 – Dinner at Enchanted Garden

With its light and romantic atmosphere, Enchanted Garden was aesthetically the dining location I was most excited to visit on the Disney Dream. My appetizer here was the Cucumber Garden Roll; yet even with a hint of cilantro, this dish was not particularly flavorful. That said, it was a nice change from a typical salad and the presentation was beautiful.

After speaking with our main server the previous night, I was served a vegetable stir-fry over noodles, which was quite enjoyable.

Stir fry over noodles

Dessert at Enchanted Garden was another decadent chocolate confection, this time paired with a plant-based whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and drizzled in chocolate sauce. I found this quite rich, but super yummy as well!

Day 3 – Breakfast at Enchanted Garden

Before heading out to join our teammates on Disney’s private Bahamian island Castaway Cay, Meagan and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast back at Enchanted Garden. We placed our breakfast order with our head server the night beforehand and then just needed to give the breakfast dining team our stateroom numbers when we arrived.

fruit plate

I had never had an omelette before, plant-based or otherwise, but this one was absolutely delicious and one of my favorite things I ate onboard. I was able to specify the vegetables I wanted (and those I’d like to avoid – ahem, mushrooms) and the Cast Member happily obliged.

Day 3 – Lunch at Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay décor

A buffet-style BBQ lunch is served for guests who visit Castaway Cay at Cookies Too BBQ. I enjoyed a veggie burger, fresh fruit, and potato chips. Our day at Castaway was chocked full of fun and I will admit I forgot to snap a photo of my lunch, so here is one from my teammate Zoe’s meal from an earlier sailing. The vegetarian chili should also be vegan, but I would advise speaking to a Cast Member for the most up-to-date information about ingredients and food preparation.

veggie burger at Castaway Cay

I did, however, take a photo of this adorable Olaf sipper! I just couldn’t resist and the Ice Palace drink with fresh banana, pineapple chunks, mango puree, and coconut water was delicious! You can pick up one of these sippers with a choice of frozen beverages at Olaf’s Summertime Freeze, which is also on Castaway.

Day 3 – Royal Palace

Our last stop on the rotational dining for the Dream was at Royal Palace , a gorgeous space decorated with nods to our favorite Disney Princesses. For an appetizer, I had pear salad which was very fresh and included arugula, sliced red onions, and a bosc pear.

salad from Royal Palace on the Disney Dream

My main course at Royal Palace was another off-menu item, vegetables over rice. Our head server made sure the chef left out any mushrooms without me saying anything; they had remembered that I was not fond of them from a previous meal and moving forward took it upon themselves to keep that in mind, which I found amazingly thoughtful and wonderful service.

vegetables over rice from the Royal Palace

Dessert was a delicious cookie/brownie combo topped with the same raspberry sorbet I was served at Palo. This selection was full of flavor and I would highly recommend it.

Cookie and brownie combo from the Royal Palace

Overall, I will say that the plant-based food on the Disney Dream is enjoyable and there are delicious options available to guests. That said, it is the Cast Members and their commitment to go above and beyond that truly makes the dining experiences comfortable for all diners regardless of their dietary needs and restrictions. Just be sure to communicate with your serving staff and they will do their best to ensure you are taken care of.

Guests of Disney’s newest cruise ship will have vegan options at each of the ship’s three restaurants! Disney Wish will embark on its maiden voyage in June 2022 and carry up to 4,000 passengers. Disney Cruise Line stated:

Each and every one of our menus will have vegan offerings. Taking care of allergies and special requirements is extremely important to us. We want families to sail with peace of mind.

While this is an exciting sign of progress, Disney Cruise Line already offers vegan options on request. And some of its ships feature menus with plant-based items, including vegan eggs, chili dogs, and chocolate truffle cake.

Last year, Disney partnered with Impossible Foods to make the Impossible Burger Disney’s “preferred plant-based burger,” available at locations in Walt Disney World and Disneyland and on Disney Cruise Line ships. At the time, Disneyland Resort culinary director John State said:

We’re excited to add more items featuring the Impossible Burger to our menus. We’re always looking for ways to bring more flavor, innovation, and creativity to the Disney dining experience and we’re delighted to include Impossible Foods in new dishes that our guests and fans are sure to enjoy.

In 2019, Disney added more than 400 plant-based items to Walt Disney World and Disneyland menus. Every quick- and table-service restaurant at every park now has vegan-friendly options, such as Asian dumplings at Epcot, a chili-spiced fried tofu bowl at Animal Kingdom, and a cashew cheesecake at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

As we contemplate a future where we can travel and enjoy vacations, check out these other vegan-friendly destinations ! And remember, you can create your own plant-based masterpieces by downloading our FREE Vegetarian Starter Guide .

Reviews and tips for eating vegan in walt disney world. lists of all vegan options split up by magic kingdom, epcot, animal kingdom, hollywood studios, disney springs, and resorts., vegan at sea on the disney magic.

Our friend Joanne just got back from sailing on the Disney Magic while they’re running sailings out of the UK. This was her first Disney Cruise Line sailing and she ate very well on her 3-night sailing. Let’s see what the offerings were as they are usually the same on both the Wonder and the Magic.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

This was our very first cruise, let alone a Disney one. From parking the car to actually stepping onto the boat was just over an hour! Very smooth especially with having to wait for COVID results. We were onboard just after 2pm, our rooms wouldn’t be ready until 4pm and our dining slot was second seating 8.40pm.

We decided to have an explore of the ship and ended up in Cabanas for a bite to eat. (Cabanas is the ships buffet style dining location). After speaking to one of the hosts, apart from the salad every other option that looked vegan was cooked in butter. I was told I could select some options to be prepared without butter for me. There wasn’t a lot, so I just asked for some vegetables and the potatoes with onions that I had spotted on the line. I took a seat and the server brought them out to me not long after.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

The first evening was Rapunzel’s Royal Table , this restaurant is a dinner show style meal. On Disney Cruise Line you dine in new restaurants each night but have the same servers throughout the trip. Our head server was Kemal. I told him I required a vegan option upon sitting down so he knew for the trip, I had also already noted that on my reservation before boarding.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

The only bread I could have was the pretzel, I was given a plant-based butter. The only appetiser was a salad, which was lettuce, carrot, cucumber, and potato with a vinaigrette dressing. It was refreshing and the dressing was nice and tangy!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

Next was a pan seared tofu and noodle dish for main course. I’m not a huge fan of tofu, it was very bland, I would have preferred it if it was more crispy and been marinated in something! There was a lot of rice noodles, I didn’t clear my plate. Again, lacking in flavour. There was a drizzle of dressing, possibly soy sauce but not enough.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

The chefs special dessert was a donut with powdered sugar, chocolate sauce, and a side of lemon sorbet! It was warm and gooey, I really enjoyed it.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

Our server told me that he would bring over the head server who would be able to discuss my options for the following day. This was great, I was able to choose whatever I wanted ( yes really, that’s what he said ) so I gave him my order.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

For breakfast our first full day we decided to head to Rapunzel’s Royal Table again, although our servers were at Lumiere’s. I didn’t want to spoil the experience as we were headed there for dinner that evening. We were seated and I told the server that I had pre-ordered the night before. Off he went and came back about 10 minutes later apologising that they hadn’t received my preorder .. so I ordered again.

I had a side of fruit and some allergy friendly Mickey waffles with a vegan sausage. The other ships have Beyond Sausages onboard, so I am assuming that’s what this was. What was a little strange was that it was served with tomato and cucumbers on the side, I don’t know who likes tomatoes and maple syrup! Hey ho, I finally had some Mickey waffles on my plate and that’s what I had missed so much!!!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

As the weather was glorious we stayed on the top deck most of the day. I went to Pinocchio’s Pizzeria to order a vegan pizza. An allergy host came out and I had to wait around 10 minutes for them to make it. It was topped with mixed veg and two types of vegan cheese, one that melted and another that was of a strange consistency that hadn’t melted and had quite a spongy texture. I ended up pulling those bits off.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

That evening we dined at Lumiere’s , when we sat down I was immediatly given my own basket of breads and vegan butter.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

I had pre-ordered a vegan French onion soup as an appetiser (when I asked he said they had never done one but the chef was happy to oblige). The French onion soup was delicious and came with melty vegan cheese on it.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

For the main course I was given a pasta, the pasta was tomato based with a kick. Lacked some chunky veg though!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

I was given a chef’s surprise for dessert; a chocolate sponge with strawberries and strawberry sauce and chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce was rich and slightly bitter, I enjoyed it.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

What I learned from speaking to the server and giving feed back about breakfast is that we should really follow where our evenings servers are working at breakfast – this was the best tip of the trip as they are aware that you have preordered etc. (Melissa agrees 😉 )

Day 3 – For breakfast we dined at Cabanas , as advised by our server Kemal. As soon as I walked in he spotted me, I told him where I was sitting and he came out with my pre-order. Again it had to be Mickey waffles.. I asked for 2 sausages this time as I enjoyed them so much and a side of baked beans ( who doesn’t like sausage and beans ). I was also served a ‘huge’ fruit bowl.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

It was another glorious day, so we spent most of the day on the top deck again. I was told that Daisy’s De-Lites would be able to make me a vegan panini. I again spoke to an allergy host who got a chef to take my order. I waited around 15 mins for it. Roasted veg, mushrooms, and caramelised onions. I found the bread very dry but the filling was tasty. I suspect the bread was gluten free.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

That evening was Animator’s Palate . I love the theming in here!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

As with each dinner, I was served my own bread service with vegan butter.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

I had ordered the potato soup ….. but the server knew how much I loved the French onion soup so I ended up with two appetisers! Both were really nice.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

For the main course I had ordered a curry. The curry was tomato based, very flavoursome and not too hot. Weirdly served with no rice or any sides. Maybe I should have asked for rice but I assumed it would come with it – nevertheless it was a tasty aromatic curry which I enjoyed.

disney cruise vegetarian meals

Dessert was marinated pear in a raspberry sauce with a side of raspberry sorbet – delicious !

disney cruise vegetarian meals

My biggest tip is to pre order the night before and always follow your servers wherever they are the following morning. This way we don’t have any disappointment in the mornings.

Our servers, Kemal and Gunawan, were great. They went above and beyond to ensure I was fed! When they say you can choose whatever you want and the chef will deliver, at dinner I believe he can!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

Around the ship there were other options, but my sailing was so short I didn’t get to try them all. I did get a Dole Whip Smoothie from Frozone though!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

We didn’t order room service and I asked about milk options ( even though I don’t tend to have a lot of plant based milk ) I was told there were oat, soya and almond milk available.

After getting on the ship I learned that during Lumiere’s sit down lunch they apparently had impossible burgers. Also at Duck-In Diner by the pool they had vegan sausages available as well. I should have gone there instead of the having the gluten free panini!

disney cruise vegetarian meals

In terms of COVID protocols, all staff wore masks, all servers wore masks and protective glasses. Hand sanitising stations were placed everywhere and sensors on all the doors so you didn’t have to touch them. When we entered when welcomed on the ship by Mickey and Minnie there were markers on the floor for each family to stand on. During the nighttime show you were asked to leave a seat between you and the next family. When dining you were seated with only your reservation parties, no dining with strangers.

There are still characters around. Just like at Walt Disney World they are doing their meet and greets at a distance. We saw the fab 5 and some princesses as well.

Thank you to Jo for sharing her stay on the Disney Magic with us! I hope to see you on this side of the pond again soon my friend.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California! View all posts by Melissa Kramer

Thanks for the updates! My cruise on the Disney Dream is not until October 2022 but I appreciate reading about what is available now so I can keep my expectations in check.

We did the Dream in 2019, the options on that were better in my opinion than the Magic. https://vegandisneyworld.com/2019/10/15/vegan-options-on-the-disney-dream/

Vegetarian food on Disney cruise

By shah007 , August 8, 2023 in Disney Cruise Line

Cool Cruiser

I was excited about wanting to book a disney cruise for my 9 year old daughter. We are a family of 3 and are all vegetarians. But another family who went recently told me that the vegetarian food was strictly OK (less options and less flavorful) especially in dinner in the formal dinning in the evenings. Have any vegetarian folks in this group had any similar experiences?

I realize this doesn't really address your question, but as a vegetarian I thought I might as well say something!

As a vegetarian, I've learned not to expect great things, except on a more upscale cruise line. For example, although I've never been on Disney, Holland America is supposed to have pretty good food, and a separate vegetarian menu, but I found the vegetarian offerings pretty ordinary. Viking, however, has excellent vegetarian food, though much less choice. We're spending a bit more and trying Oceania next, based on reviews of the food.

My family eats pescaterian (vegetarian and finfish) and we have not had trouble finding food we like on our 12 Disney cruises. The main dining rooms have vegetarian entree options, usually more than one, each night. I am not picky, so I've liked almost everything. My husband has mentioned that the food in general is not as well-spiced as he'd prefer.

On our Fantasy cruise in January, we discovered a few days into the cruise that Cabanas had a plant-based lunch special every day. It was made to order and required a small wait, but it was always tasty.

I will mention that while Palo has limited vegetarian options (I usually order fish there) we have had 2 phenomenal dinners at Remy composed mostly of vegetarian items. We just stopped by at Remy after we boarded to make sure our dietary requirements were noted on our reservations, and the chef prepared meals just for us. Obviously, you would need to get your daughter dinner elsewhere if you go to Remy.

Cruisin_Vol_Fan

I am definitely not a vegetarian but lean that way when dining on a cruise. I just get tired of some of the meat options. I found myself selecting the vegetarian entree at dinner at least twice on our 5-night cruise. The choices are interesting to me and I found the food to be good. All the menu items are marked as vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, etc. on the printed menus. You can google Disney Cruise Menus and find most all posted - it may help you determine if you think there are enough options for you. I was surprised that items on the buffet are not marked with any information. You will need to ask for specifics on items. However, they are incredibly kind and efficient on getting that information for you. My mom has a shrimp allergy and they would quickly be able to tell her if another buffet item was safe (i.e., seafood gumbo). Daisy's DeLites (Magic) had some fun options for lunch, especially the build your own bowl bar.

I think how much variety you will have depends on what type of vegetarian you are. I can imagine someone who eats strictly vegan would have trouble. As others have mentioned, do not expect intense flavor or spice. They are cooking for the masses and have to spice it accordingly.

Your dining team is there to help you find things that will interest you and will make sure you have a fantastic journey. I know they will do whatever they can to make things as wonderful as possible.

I'm not vegetarian but I found myself selecting the vegetarian options on my Disney cruise. They are clearly marked on the menu and are actually some very interesting choices. Some of the best dishes I had were the veggie curry options at the quick service location on the pool deck, or main courses from the dining room.

Best Vegetarian Options at Disney World

A dining guide for vegetarians & vegans – restaurants, meals & snack food .

Best vegetarian restaurants at Disney World

Disney World pride’s itself on being transparent and accommodating when it comes to its food. They are constantly tweaking their menus and experimenting with new flavors to keep things fresh and interesting.  This includes expanding its menu offerings to include more and more meat-free vegetarian and vegan options.  In fact, Disney has now begun to offer hundreds of plant-based options at all of its major table service and quick service restaurants throughout the park.

Sure, you can still find burgers and fries at most quick-service locations.  But we are happy to report that Disney’s restaurants are now providing much more interesting and healthier choices. All of this is great news for vegetarians and vegans!

Regardless of where you are – or what your budget or Disney dining plan entails  – you are sure to find at least a couple of vegetarian dishes and menu items to satisfy your appetite. And if you can’t find a vegetarian option on the menu, just ask your server. They will point you to the meatless options or inform you what the chef may be able to cook (some restaurants do have vegetarian items but they aren’t always listed on the menu for whatever reason).

Let’s take a look at what you need to know about vegetarian dining at Disney World and uncover the best vegetarian and vegan dishes and dining locations in the theme parks and resorts.

We have some exciting news for vegans and vegetarians!

As we alluded to before, Disney World has announced that plant-based food options can be found on menus at EVERY one of its major dining locations. There are now over 400 vegan dishes at both quick-service and table-service restaurants throughout Disney’s theme parks and hotels.

Not to be outdone by Disney World, Disneyland now has vegan options at all of its restaurants.

Vegan menu items are identified by a new green leaf logo to help you locate the meat-free and dairy-free options.

Top Vegetarian Meals at Walt Disney World

Although this article dates back to 2015, Disney has picked its top five quick-service and its top five table-service vegetarian meals (some are vegan):

https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/10/top-10-vegetarian-meals-at-walt-disney-world-resort-to-celebrate-vegetarian-awareness-month/

It’s worth reading the entire article to get more color on the dishes, but (spoiler alert!) here the winners are:

Best Vegetarian Quick Service Meals:

1. Watermelon Salad, Flame Tree Barbecue , Disney’s Animal Kingdom

2.  Lighthouse Sandwich, Columbia Harbor House, Magic Kingdom Park

3. Grilled Vegetable Sandwich, Backlot Express , Disney’s Hollywood Studios

4. Veggie Naan-wich, Electric Umbrella , Epcot

5. Fried Green Tomato Sandwich, Rosie’s All-American Café , Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Best Vegetarian Table Service Meals:

1. Layered Ratatouille, Be Our Guest Restaurant , Magic Kingdom Park

2. Noodle Bowl, Hollywood Brown Derby , Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Vegetarian Dining Tips at Disney World

best vegetarian options at disney world

With over 140 restaurants in the park, choosing where to dine can be a challenge. It can be even more challenging when you have special dietary restrictions like gluten sensitivities or – in our case – meat-free diets.

But rest assured that Disney World is one of the best destinations for vegetarians and people with other dietary restrictions. They try their best to accommodate every guest and go above and beyond in an effort to be transparent about the ingredients.

Below we have listed some of the best vegetarian options at Disney World’s theme parks and resort hotels.

We have grouped these restaurants according to the theme park (or area of the park) and have included an assortment of both quick service and table service restaurants.

Since Disney does change their menu items from time to time, we have linked each restaurant name with the current menu so you can check it out for yourself.

Don’t be afraid to ask your server for the list of ingredients or for any additional vegetarian menu items they may not have listed.

Also, keep in mind that these are based on our personal opinion and not “gospel.” If you know of any restaurants with more (or better) menu items than the ones listed below, please send them our way!

Magic Kingdom Vegetarian Options

vegetarian magic kingdom

Disney’s Magic Kingdom offers everything from simple vegetarian snacks to more elaborate vegetarian table service meals. Even if you can’t find something on the menu, just ask your server if they have additional meat-free options. It’s surprising to learn what lurks behind the normal menu when you ask!

Here are a few of our picks:

Columbia Harbour House   (Quick Service) – This Liberty Square-area nautical-themed nook offers an assortment of American-style sandwiches and seafood items. They do have several vegetarian options as well.

Try the Vegetarian Chili or Lighthouse Sandwich, a hummus with tomato and broccoli slaw sandwich served on multigrain bread.

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe (Quick Service) – Pecos Bill is a western-themed quick-service restaurant located in the Frontierland section of Magic Kingdom. They do offer a few vegetarian options as well as a self-serve fixins’ bar with guacamole and pico de gallo.

Try the Veggie Nachos, Veggie Rice Bowl, or Southwest Salad.

Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen (Table Service) – If you’re near the Jungle Cruise attraction and looking for a vegetarian-friendly dining spot, then the African-Asian-Latin cuisine of Skipper Canteen is your best option.

Try the Shiriki Noodle Salad, Falls Family Falafel, Curried Vegetable Crew Stew, or ask for a chicken-free version of the Perkins Thai Noodles. .

Epcot Vegetarian Options

Sunshine Seasons (Quick Service) –  The Sunshine Seasons food court is in Epcot’s The Land Pavilion. It offers Asian-inspired bites, as well as quick service breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees.

Try the Mac & Cheese, Cheese Pizza, or (our favorite) the Vegan Korma with Gardein® Meatless Chik’n.

Tangierine Café  (Quick Service) – Tangierine Cafe is a dining spot that pays tribute to the culinary flavors of Morocco and is located- appropriately- in World Showcase’s Morocco Pavilion.  It’s also one of the healthiest and most vegetarian-friendly locales in Disney World.

Try the Vegetable Platter served with tangerine couscous salad, hummus, and tabouleh.

Coral Reef Restaurant (Table Service) – Set amid dazzling aquariums with hundreds of sea creatures, the upscale Coral Reef Restaurant has a seafood-heavy menu. However, they do offer a few vegetarian dishes as well.

Try their Seasonal House Salad, Tempura-fried Cauliflower, and the famous The Chocolate Wave dessert.

Animal Kingdom Vegetarian Options

animal kingdom vegetarian food

Ironically, Animal Kingdom is perhaps the most vegetarian-friendly theme park at Disney World.

Here are a few of our favorites in this category:

Harambe Market  (Quick Service) – This African-inspired open-air foot court is home to kitschy food stalls (with plenty of veggie options).

Try the Roasted Vegetable entree with roasted cauliflower,  chickpeas, and sweet potatoes served over steamed rice with yogurt raita.

Satu’li Canteen  (Quick Service) – Located in the Pandora – The World of Avatar, this quick-service restaurant is imaginative in both its surroundings and menu offerings.

Try the Chili-Spiced Crispy Fried Tofu Bowl, served with crispy fried tofu seasoned with a chili-spice topped with boba balls (tapioca balls?) and crunchy vegetable slaw.

Boma – Flavors of Africa   (Table Service Buffet) – Boma is an award-winning table service restaurant in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom.  This African-themed dining spot offers an enticing buffet with options to please nearly everyone, including vegetarians.

Try the Carrot-Ginger Soup,  Spinach and Quinoa Salad, Watermelon Rind Salad, Spiced Sweet Potatoes, and Plantain Crisps.

Sanaa   (Table Service) – At Sanaa, you will experience an exotic blend of African and Indian cooking as you watch the animals roam free in the Savanna before you. This restaurant is known for its selection of amazing bread and dips.

Try the Indian-style Bread Service, Salad Sampler, and the African-inspired Biryani.

Tusker House  (Table Service Buffet) – The Tusker House is home to one of Disney’s best character dining experiences , Donald’s Dining Safari. They serve a buffet of African fare with a kids’ menu, plus character dining for breakfast & lunch.

Try the Tabouli and Hummus Dips, “Vegetarian Offering” of the day, Fruit Salad, and Black-eyed Pea Salad

Hollywood Studios Vegetarian Options

Hollywood Studios – Your options are a bit more limited at Hollywood Studios, but you do have a few.

These include:

Backlot Express  (Quick Service) – This counter-service dining spot has classic American fare, beer, and a kids’ menu. This spot is highly recommended for Star Wars fans.

Try the Galactic Salad and the Caprese Sandwich.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant   (Table Service) – Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre is a fun 50’s style diner with car-shaped booths and classic sci-fi movie clips playing on the tv screens. If that’s not enough, they also have a decent selection of vegetarian menu choices.

Try the Fried Dill Pickles, Vegan Tofu Lettuce Wraps, Vegetarian Falafel Burger, and top it off with the Warm Glazed Doughnut.

Best Options for Vegetarians at Disney World Resorts

vegetarian disney resorts

While the vegetarian options at Disney resorts are limited, you should be able to find at least something that will work.

For example, Beach Club’s Cape May has a few buffet items, and the Polynesian’s Ohana has at least one entree and plenty of vegetarian side dishes.

Here is our top pick in the category:

The Wave… of American Flavors  (Table Service) – The Wave eatery is located in The Contemporary Resorts (Magic Kingdom area). It serves an American-style menu & breakfast buffet with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal dishes.

Try the Noodle Bowl (with tofu) or the Seared Potato Gnocchi with Forest Mushrooms, Sweet Potatoes, Rainbow Swiss Chard, and Brown Butter Parmesan-Sage Cream.

Vegetarians Options at Disney Springs

Disney Springs vegetarian

Disney Springs is Walt Disney World’s shopping, dining, and entertainment district.

Here you can find some decent vegetarian menu items if you look in the right places.

The Earl of Sandwich, Paradiso, and Japanese sushi and vegetarian cuisine of Morimoto Asia are all worthy spots.

Our favorite is:

Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza (Quick Service) – Do you like pizza? Of course, you do! Blaze is a unique quick-service restaurant that will craft your pizza exactly how you want it.

You can choose your veggie toppings, your dough (gluten-free, anyone?), and your cheese.

Yes, they even offer vegan cheese at no extra cost . All cooked at a blazing speed!

Try the Veg Out Pizza or Build Your Own Pizza.

Personal Reader Experiences

Reader Erin P.: Just ate at Boma in the Animal Kingdom hotel. Amazing choices for vegetarians and a few great vegan choices too (lots of the veggie dishes had egg and butter but very little dairy). Our server was vegetarian, too!

We went to Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner, but upon arrival realized the menu would not suit our needs. It’s very meat-based since it’s a mock-Thanksgiving dinner, and the veggie sides are limiting. We realized this at check-in, and the hostess was happy to let us out of our dinner reservation at no charge. She sent us instead to the counter-service Columbia Harbour House . We were able to use our table service meal plan there and had a great meal. The adults had hummus and broccoli slaw sandwiches, and the kids had vegetarian chili and French fries. We all shared sides of broccoli. We paid a little under $5 for an extra veggie chili. It was great! My only complaint is that it’s hard to plan in advance here. When you ask about veggie options they give you the company line, “There is always a vegetarian option at every restaurant.” That’s true, but it would be great if Disney made it easier to weed out the occasional veggie options from the restaurants that do vegetarian cooking right. There’s a big difference from a vast buffet at Boma and a few sides at Liberty Tree Tavern .

Reader Jean : Yak and Yeti in Asia has Vegetable Lo Mein on menu to which you can add Tofu. However, they will substitute Tofu for any meat dish on menu. I’ve had Bourbon Tofu, Sweet ‘n Sour Tofu, Honey Tofu and Miso glazed Tofu (instead of the Salmon) which was fantastic! Also the Maple Tamarind chicken made with Tofu instead is really good. For an appy, the wok-fried green beans are vegan. You can get some of these at their quick service next door because they share same kitchen.

Reader Gay B. : Best Meal of our trip was in Epcot’s Mexico pavilion at La Hacienda de San Angel . The restaurant has a separate vegetarian menu and the food was delicious; we both ate Enchalades de Vegetales.

France, Boulangerie Patisserie — great grab and go sandwiches, quiche and goodies, also like the cheese tray with a baguette

Second best meal : Sci-Fi Dine-In at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — great veggie burger, unusual and very tasty, unexpectedly good

Animal Kingdom, Pizzafari — okay pizza and pretty good salad

Magic Kingdom, Cosmic Ray’s — usual veggie burgers and toppings bar, but was so crowded our food was cold by the time we found someplace to eat it

Main Street Bakery — Starbucks coffee and pastries, happy adults!

Polynesian, Kona Cafe — wonderful coffees and muffins and scones, also very delicious kid friendly hot chocolate with real whipped cream
