Carnival Freedom offers some of the fleet’s latest and greatest features. Explore food options galore, including Posh and Chic dining rooms, Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina. When it’s time for a beverage, choices include Scott’s Piano Bar, the 70’s Dance Club, the Alchemy Bar (cocktail-magic central!), EA SPORTS Bar and the RedFrog Pub. At the one-and-(adult)-only Serenity Retreat, total relaxation is not only encouraged, but pretty much required. Kids not only will find new friends at one of three youth spaces — like the all-new Camp Ocean — but they also can splash around with them in one of many pools, speed down the Twister Waterslide or challenge them to a round of mini-golf. And don’t miss Hasbro, The Game Show, where kids of all ages (even grandma!) compete in larger-than-life Hasbro games.

RedFrog Pub:  Get into an island state of mind before you even set foot on one. RedFrog Pub is Carnival's laid-back, no-worries, oh-so-lively, Key West-inspired pub. Seafood Shack:  A good seafood dish is quite the catch. However you like yours served — whether it’s on a roll, in a salad or atop a platter — Seafood Shack’s the place to cast your net. Imagine a New England-style seaside spot where you can take it all in, enjoying a great meal complete with a side of ocean view. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Steakhouse:  The menu features premium cuts of beef cooked to your specifications, as well as a fantastic selection of seafood, entrées, gourmet appetizers and an extensive wine list. Like any destination restaurant, reservations for Steakhouse are highly recommended. Your meal includes an appetizer, salad, entrée, side and dessert. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Steakhouse Selections:  Whoever said you can’t always get what you want certainly never said it on a Carnival cruise. Odds are that something steakhouse style sounds good — filet mignon, New York Strip, lobster, or surf and turf. Now you can get these signature steakhouse dishes anytime you’re enjoying dinner in the main dining room. This option is available for an additional cost.

The Chef’s Table:  Treat your taste buds to a unique culinary event hosted by one of Carnival's master chefs. Your VIP experience begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for a select group of 14, followed by a galley tour. Try a fresh-off-the-grill burger Guy's way, or take it off-road to the toppings bar and truly make it your own.

Lido Marketplace:  Featuring an amazing variety of casual dining spots, each just a few flip-flopped steps from the last, Lido Marketplace always has a special something ready to satisfy your latest craving spectacularly. Here Carnival does it with dozens of what-to-eat options... great choices like BBQ, a deli counter, salad bar, an Asian station and a pasta bar... plus one spot where the chef serves up a different surprise daily! At Lido Marketplace, there's tons of indoor and outdoor seating made for gathering around, so you can enjoy your personal faves in your favorite company for lunch or dinner, or even breakfast! Captain's Suite

The Carnival cruise ship Freedom has a total of 29 wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers) and 18 Spa cabins (all Balcony). The number of all cabin categories is 27.

Each of the two Captain’s Suites has master bedroom (2 twin beds convertible to king, Pullman bed), dressing area (vanity, large walk-in closet), large bathroom, separate living room (double sofa bed, coffee table, desk, armchairs), second bathroom (shower), fridge and mini-bar.

Carnival Freedom Suites (Captain's, Grand, Ocean) have king beds, living room (walk-in closet, desk, vanity table, chair, drawers, double sofa bed), private bathroom (WC, shower, whirlpool bathtub, double sinks).

Premium Balcony (9B, 9C) and Extended Balcony cabins (8N, 8M) have twin beds convertible to a Queen-size double bed, ample closet/storage space, bathroom (shower), living area. Some (C staterooms have an additional sofa bed for 3rd person. These staterooms have 50% larger balconies, 3 closets (in all grades balcony rooms), full bathroom (shower). All grades balcony accommodations feature a private step-out balcony with sliding glass doors (table, patio chairs).

Passengers booked in Spa cabins (category 8F /balcony) enjoy the following complimentary amenities, services and perks (applicable for two guests per stateroom only): complimentary unlimited access to all Spa Carnival facilities, 2 fitness classes (Yoga or Pilates), 2 metabolism tests, bathrobes, slippers, deluxe in-room bath amenities by Elemis (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, vitamin-rich body lotion, 1 hand and 1 body soap disks), priority Spa reservations (appointments must be made by 6 pm on embarkation day), spa treatment discounts on port days (while the ship is docked in ports of call- 20% off /1st, 30% off /2nd, 40% off /3rd treatment).

Scenic Oceanview cabins have floor-ceiling slanted windows, 2 twin beds (convertible to king), living area (sofa, coffee table, chairs). Some have additionally sofa bed for 3rd/4th person. Oceanview cabins have a large picture window, twin beds (convertible to queen), living area. Some have a sofa and/or upper beds (Pullman) for 3rd/4th person.

Inside cabins with windows (category 4J-Obstructed view) have Picture Window, while category PT has Porthole Window). Some 4J-Inside rooms have 1 upper bed (bunk bed) for 3rd person, and some are with not-convertible twin beds. Some of the Porthole Inside staterooms have a sofa bed or upper/bunk beds for a 3rd-4th person. Small Inside cabins have bunk beds (upper/lower Pullman beds), living area, bathroom (shower).

All Carnival Freedom staterooms offer as standard/complimentary amenities a living area (vanity, seating), smart HDTV (infotainment system, Internet, on-demand-movies, bookings-reservations, Room Service ordering), direct-dial phone, electronic safe box and lifejackets (in the closet), hairdryer, en-suite bathroom (WC-toilet, shower, single sink-vanity, bathrobes, bathroom amenity basket/replenished upon request), custom-made beds (Carnival Comfort Bed System), beach towels, mini-bar/fridge, individual air-conditioning, complimentary 24-hour room service. Bibles (Gideon version) are provided upon request.

Bathroom amenities vary each time, so it’s advisable you bring your own. Samples may include toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, body lotion, razor, antiacids. There is a wall-mounted dispenser in the shower stall (for liquid soap and shampoo). Electric power outlets are located in the desk/vanity area – one 110 V outlet (3-pronged, USA grounded) and one 220 V outlet (European standard). The bathroom’s 2-pin plug can be used only for electric razors.

The ship’s interactive TV system allows passengers to purchase movies on demand, to order room service and to check the Sail & Sign account’s status. The on-demand movie list has approx 25 films available for ordering at USD 5 per movie. Adult-content films cost USD 10 per movie. Depending on satellite reception (Carnival Freedom location at sea), the complimentary in-cabin TV programming includes the following channels: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNN (Domestic, International, Espanol), TCM (classic movies), cartoons (Boomerang, CN), TNT, TBS. There are 2 complimentary movie channels showing a film every 3 hours (both starting at 12 noon). One shows all-time favorites (PG -13 rated) and the other shows all-time family favorites (G / PG-rated). The following TV channels are Carnival-themed and also complimentary: Fun Finds TV, Cruise Director, Fun Aboard, Park West Art, Shore Tours, Ship Position, live cam views (webcams positioned forward and on lido deck), Audible Funtimes, Photo, Music. Sporting events (ESPN, ESPN 2) are shown only on big screens – at the ship’s Sports Bar and Seaside Theatre (not in cabins/suites). All the TV’s connection ports are intentionally disabled, which makes it impossible to connect it with personal devices (cameras, DVDs, USBs, iPods, gaming consoles, etc).

The new Carnival beds are Europe-manufactured exclusively for the company. The ensemble includes custom pillows (trademarked “New Generation Pillows”, 100% cotton), duvet (100% hypoallergenic, ultra-fine, satin-striped), cover, deluxe sheets (high-quality cotton), pillowcases (ultra-fine, satin-striped), 8-inch / 20 cm spring mattresses (trademarked “Carnival Comfort”). Alternative (non-allergenic) bedding is also available. It includes 100% polyester blankets, sheets and pillowcases (60/40 cotton-polyester) and New Generation Pillows (100% cotton). Note: Trundle beds don’t have Carnival Comfort mattresses.

The Carnival’s Sail & Sign card (cashless onboard credit account) doubles as stateroom key. The S&S credit program allows charges on purchases and tips/gratuities directly to a personal account throughout the Carnival cruise. The card has a designated owner and must be utilized for all money transactions on the ship as cash is accepted as a form of payment only at the casino. These cards are provided to all passengers (incl minors) immediately upon boarding the ship. Balance updates are provided at Guest Services desk (at any time). They can also be checked via the smart TV in each stateroom.

Carnival-logoed Beach Towels are provided in each cruise accommodation for passengers to take ashore. Beach towels are also available for purchasing (at $22). Bathrobes (2) are provided in all suites and also in Spa cabins. Additional bathrobes are provided upon request. For all other cruise accommodations, bathrobes are provided (upon request) during the turndown service on the first evening. Bathrobes can be purchased at $49 (adult size) and $24 (children sizes /2-4 yo and 6-8 yo).

Life jackets are used in cases of emergency only (not at the ship pools). Lifejackets are located within passenger/crew cabins (in the closet). They are available in 3 sizes – adult, child, and infant.

Each of the cabins has a safe (located in the closet) with approx dimensions (inches/centimeters) – width (10/25), height (9/23) and depth (8/20). Cabin safes can be accessed by any magnetic strip card. It is advisable not to use a valid credit card (or driver’s license), but an old expired card (or some rewards card) instead. Some safes are with a keypad (personal code). Safes can be opened also by the ship’s security.

All passenger cabin and suite mini-bars are stocked with premium liquors ($6-9,25), beer ($6,25), energy drinks ($5), soft soda/beverages ($2), bottled water ($3,75). 

In-cabin babysitting is not available (read more at Camp Ocean below). Cribs in cruise cabins are provided complimentary (upon request). In Main Dining Rooms are provided complimentary high chairs and booster seats.

Smoking in cabins/suites and on their balconies is prohibited. On Carnival Freedom, smoking allowed areas (cigarettes /incl electronic cigarettes) are 70’s Nightclub (disco /not allowed on the dance floor), Casino (designated areas), Casino Bar. Smoking (incl of cigars and tobacco pipes) is allowed on designated outdoor areas on Deck 3 portside (forward) and on Deck 11 portside.

Funville@Sea is free of charge Intranet service providing information on onboard activities and events schedule, bar and restaurant menus, deck maps, Fun Times (newspaper), FunAshore (tour guides), Carnival cruise news, itinerary-related weather reports, onboard social network (tracking/messaging other passengers). The complimentary service is available via the Infotainment system (in all cabins) and also at the FunHub stations around the ship.

Current cruise ship gratuities (per day per person) are USD 12,95 (for standard cabin passengers) and USD 13,95 for suite passengers. The list of perks for all suites includes: priority embarkation/debarkation/tendering (all ports), priority main dining room reservations, complimentary bottled water in cabins, a complimentary bag of laundry (one per cruise), enhanced turndown service.

Since 2017, Carnival Cruise Line offers a new program allowing ship passengers to customize their steward service by choosing to have the cabin serviced in the morning, at night or both (twice a day). All guests can choose from a list of additional cabin amenities, among which are bathrobes, extra pillows, blankets, closet hangers. All guests can also specify how often the bed linens to be changed during the cruise. Your personal preferences can be selected from a services menu card left in each of the ship’s staterooms. By default, if you make no selections on the card, your room service steward will service the accommodation twice daily.

Cruise Ship Room Service

In 2016, Carnival Cruise Lines rolled out fleetwide for-fee (chargeable) room service menu, which items can be ordered 24/7. The new menu still has free of charge items – hot and cold sandwiches, salads, desserts, beverages, Continental Breakfast selections. At extra cost (ranging between USD 1,50 and 6) are items that include shrimp, also sushi, pizza, quesadillas, cheesesteaks, chicken wings/tenders, fries. Bar drinks orders through room service are at regular bar menu prices (no extra fee added).

The Warehouse Arcades

Our video arcades offer the very latest arcade games, redemption and merchandising games. All arcades feature a wide range of the latest arcade games that appeal to the entire family.

Arcades are open 24/7, whether at sea or in port.

The arcades utilize a cashless system to charge for play. Guests will use their Sail & Sign® card to play a game – each game has a card reader and they simply swipe their card to buy a game of choice and press a button to start playing. 

• Price of play ranges from $0.75 USD to $2.00 USD with the majority of games being $1.00 USD to play.
• The guest’s Sail & Sign card must be active for use in the arcade.
• The default daily limit for arcade play of $100.00 USD per day, per guest (this applies to minors and adults).
• Daily default limits can be adjusted either up or down upon request by parents or guardians if it is for a child under 18 years of age. The parent or guardian can request for the limit to be adjusted either at the Guest Services Desk or with the casino cashiers.
• Cruise staff in the arcade or in the casino are available to answer any questions guests may have once onboard. 

The arcades also feature a selection of Redemption Games and Self-Merchandiser Games :

• Redemption Games: These games offer E-ticket rewards as the guest plays which are loaded directly to the guest’s Sail and Sign card. The guest can collect E-tickets and at any time during their cruise which they can redeem for a wide selection of prizes at a self-service prize hub located in the arcade.
• Self-Merchandiser Games: Guests can play a game of skill and try to win great electronic prizes directly at the machine.

Carnival Freedom Cruise Ship: Overview and Things to Do

The final Conquest-class cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line , Carnival Freedom, is very slowly nearing its 20th birthday. That said, while this ship is old enough to drink in some areas of the world, it’s hardly lost its luster.

The cruise ship delivers all the brand’s classic amenities for families and similar cruisers looking for a cruise experience that provides lots of fun in the sun and near-endless entertainment.

If you’re planning on taking a Carnival Freedom cruise in the near future (or just considering it), here’s everything you need to know.

Carnival freedom stats.

Carnival Freedom is not a mega ship, but it’s not a small one, either. You’ll have plenty of room to spread out and play alongside thousands of passengers. The vessel is part of the Conquest class and the sister ship to Carnival Conquest , Carnival Glory, Carnival Liberty , and Carnival Valor . Here are some ship stats:

• Gross Tonnage: 110,000
• Length: 952 feet
• Decks: 13 in total
• Passenger capacity: 2,980
• Maximum passenger capacity: 4,075
• Cabins: 1,490
• Crew: 1,150

Construction and Refurbishments

Originally built in the early 2000s at a cost of $500 million, Carnival Freedom welcomed cruisers for the first time in 2007, with an Eastern Mediterranean maiden voyage. Since then, though, the sh ip has repositioned a few times and also received a few refurbishments and renovations.

In 2009, just a few years after the ship’s debut, Carnival added a few new features, including the Serenity adults-only retreat that Carnival fans will know well.

The addition of this retreat on Carnival Freedom was the very first time that an adults-only area appeared on a Conquest-class ship. At this time, the ship also received the addition of the Circle C preteens area. Other changes applied to staterooms and dining rooms.

In 2014, more expansive refurbishments took place, taking Carnival Freedom into the cruise line’s Fun 2.0 era. This dry dock saw the addition of quite a few Carnival brand-favorite venues, including:

• RedFrog Rum Bar
• Blue Iguana Tequila Bar
• Alchemy Bar
• EA Sports Bar (which has since changed names)
• Guy’s Burger Joint
• Blue Iguana Cantina
• Cherry on Top
• RedFrog Pub
• Playlist Productions

The 2014 refurbishments also saw the additions of some new suites, and other enhancements were made throughout the ship, giving new life to the pool areas, gym, and children’s areas.

The most recent refurbishments, however, took place in 2019, when even more Carnival classic fun was added to the ship. Bonsai Sushi Express was added to the Lido restaurant, and WaterWorks replaced the ship’s previous water slide. Retail space also expanded.

However, if even refurbishments that took place just a few years ago aren’t new enough for you, there’s good news. If you wait to book your cruise for later in the winter months of 2023 or sometime in 2024, you’ll get to enjoy even more updates, as another dry dock is scheduled to take place over almost the entirety of October 2023.

As mentioned, there are nearly 1,500 staterooms aboard Carnival Freedom , inclusive of suites. The regular, non-suite staterooms, though, can be broken down as follows:

• 523 balcony staterooms
• 330 ocean view staterooms
• 564 interior staterooms

All staterooms, regardless of type, offer the following amenities:

So how can you expect these staterooms to differ from type to type?

If you book an interior stateroom aboard Carnival Freedom , you can expect to find Carnival’s old-school decor choices. While these rooms are a bit stuck in the past, they’re perfectly comfortable for one or two travelers, with ample floor space and storage space.

There are a few sub-categories of interior staterooms, including interior staterooms with picture windows with views of internal walkways, and interior staterooms with portholes.

If you feel like a traditional interior stateroom is a bit boxy and claustrophobic, go with one of the interior staterooms that offer either a picture window or a porthole. You’ll get natural light and a bit of an airier feel, but without the extra cost of an ocean view stateroom.

Speaking of, ocean view staterooms are very similar to the interior staterooms in decor and stylings, but with that added, large, rectangular window along one side of the cabin. When you book , ensure your ocean view stateroom does not feature an obstructed view.

For the best views possible without upgrading to a balcony stateroom, book a scenic ocean view room. These rooms boast large, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows along one entire side of the cabin, for gorgeous, non-stop views at every angle. Plus, the decor is slightly upgraded.

Balcony staterooms are larger than your other options, and not just thanks to the addition of the outdoor space. Expect extra interior floor space and comfortable interior seating areas as well. For the most space possible, and the best views, choose a premium balcony stateroom or an aft-view extended balcony stateroom.

Suite guests, regardless of suite type, enjoy extra amenities that other travelers do not, such as…

• Priority check-in and boarding
• Priority dining

If you book a junior suite, you’ll enjoy more space than you might find in one of the balcony or ocean view staterooms. These suites feature balconies and even walk-in closets.

Do note that, of the suite options, the junior suites do feature more of that outdated decor that you’ll see primarily in the internal staterooms.

Ocean suites put the emphasis on ocean views from every angle, with lots of bright windows and a glass door that leads out onto the large balcony. Grand suites are extra-large, with big balconies, big bedrooms, vanities, and more.

Finally, the captain’s suite is the best and biggest of the bunch, with two bathrooms, a hot tub, a separate living area, plenty of spaces to sleep (making this suite a great choice for traveling families or groups of friends), and other perks.

Free Dining

Carnival offers a nice variety of free dining options that you can enjoy during your Carnival Freedom cruise at no cost. Free dining options on this ship include:

• Guy’s Burger Joint , for casual bites approved by the Mayor of Flavortown himself
• BlueIguana Cantina, for Mexican eats
• Lido Marketplace, for a classic cruise ship buffet
• Posh and Chic, the ship’s two main dining rooms, for three courses every night (plus breakfast and lunch, too!)
• Pizza Pirate, for pizza at any hour
• Swirls, for convenient soft serve and frozen yogurt
• Sweet Spot, for more options to satisfy your sweet tooth

During a lengthy cruise, though, you may find that you want more than just what you can get at this handful of restaurants. In that instance, you’ll need to check out the additional specialty restaurants aboard the ship.

Specialty Restaurants

Specialty restaurants aboard cruise ships provide a la carte menus at a fee — just like a typical restaurant on the mainland. Dining at these restaurants is not included in the price of your cruise.

Activities and Entertainment

Carnival Cruise Line , in general, specializes in keeping cruisers entertained, and when you cruise on Carnival Freedom, you can expect more of the same. Here are just a few of the ways you can expect to keep yourself busy.

Spending a Day at the Spa

The Carnival Freedom spa is operated by Steiner Leisure and the options for treatments range from your typical spa treatments like massages, body wraps and facials, but also include salon services in case you need a bit of beautification, from hair and nail treatments to teeth whitening.

There are complimentary steam rooms and saunas that you can use if you’re already enjoying a treatment at the spa, and even some treatments are available to teen cruisers, too. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy some mom-and-daughter or father-and-son time while getting pampered and relaxing.

Working Up a Sweat in the Gym

Don’t worry about keeping up with your fitness regimen while you’re onboard Carnival Freedom . This cruise ship has you covered. There’s a 15,000-square-foot gym with all kinds of equipment — treadmills, stair masters, rowing machines, weight machines, free weights, and stationary bikes.

The best part, though, is the ocean views that you get no matter where you’re at in the gym. The panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows make sure of it.

If you’d rather go for a run in the open air, you can also do that. There’s a jogging deck surrounding the ship’s smokestack. Do 11 loops to get in your mile for the day.

Catching a Show

Playlist Productions provides Broadway-style performances, but that’s just where the fun begins. Enjoy seeing dancers, musicians and singers in a traditional theater setting every single night. You can also get the adrenaline pumping with 3-D shows that really immerse you in the adventure of your choosing.

At Hasbro, The Game Show, compete against your fellow cruisers for cool prizes, all while playing some of your favorite games from childhood.

Laugh all night long at The Punchliner Comedy Club, where they have comedy shows suitable for kids and adults. Lastly, don’t miss Carnival’s Seaside Theater, which displays open-air flicks by the pool.

Getting Active, Outdoors

At Carnival Waterworks, try out awesome water slides with views of the ocean, race side-by-side slides with your family or just enjoy a dip in one of the multiple pools.

At SportSquare, try the ropes course or challenge your spouse or kids to a game of Ping Pong, foosball or another game. The best part? SportSquare is always open, so you can always have a great time. 

Get in Some Retail Therapy

You don’t have to leave your retail addiction at home just because you’re at sea. Carnival Freedom offers lots of shopping opportunities, whether you want to stock up on candy for your sweet tooth at Cherry on Top or indulge in some duty-free items like expensive wines and liquors or designer clothing. Shopping for both yourself and your loved ones back home has never been easier!

Try Your Luck at the Casino

There are plenty of options aboard Carnival Freedom when it comes to trying your luck in the casino. You can play a nice game of poker, whether you prefer Texas Hold ‘Em, three-card or high stakes.

There are even electronic tables if you’d prefer not to have a live dealer. With minimum bets starting at just $5, you can play on any budget. There’s also roulette, a fun experience with fellow cruisers, and more general casino tournaments.

Kids Venues

Carnival is known as a very family-friendly cruise line and, as such, you can expect some great children’s programming on this ship.

Camp Ocean welcomes cruisers ages 2 to 11. Kids are broken up into age-appropriate groups and then staff lead them through entertaining (and educational!) activities. Circle C is the pre-teen area of the ship, for those ages 12 to 14. Kids enjoy video games, movies and more.

Club 02 is for the older teens, ages 15 to 17, and allows them to hang out away from both their little siblings and mom and dad, with relative freedom, enjoying some fun with cruisers their age.

The sales incentive program is tiered and includes a 6-month incentive guarantee. Average annual earning for this role is $65,000 - $70,000 with high performers earning $100,000+.

Applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest folio when this program is used within US waters. The tax is based on the state's tax structure and the cost of the individual drink purchased (not the daily program rate). For example: if the drink price is $5 and the tax is 10%, the guest's Sail & Sign card will be charged $0.50 for tax. This applies to all US ports (embarkation home ports and ports-of-call). Carnival Freedom cruise ship catches fire near Bahamas

TAMPA, Fla. ( WFLA ) — A Carnival Cruise ship’s funnel caught on fire during their voyage near the Bahamas on Saturday.

Carnival said that at 3:15 p.m., the Carnival Freedom reported a fire on the port side from the ship’s exhaust funnel.

In a statement from Carnival, the team said, “The ship’s fire response team was quickly activated, and the ship’s captain also turned the vessel towards the heavy rain in the area to maximize the efforts to put out the flames. Eyewitnesses reported the possibility of a lightning strike and that is being investigated but cannot yet be confirmed.”

A portion of the funnel on the port side fell onto Deck 10.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire at 5:20 p.m. All aboard were asked to stay away from balconies and open decks for their safety.

Two crew members fighting the fire were treated for minor smoke inhalation, according to Carnival. As of this report, there are no reported injuries for guests.

The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted and has activated their response team. The cruise is expected to continue sailing to Freeport and arrive on Sunday morning.

The ship was around 20 miles from Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas, heading to Freeport. The ship departed from Port Canaveral on Thursday for a four-day trip.

On May 26, 2022, the same ship caught on fire while docked in Grand Turk . The inside of the Freedom’s funnel erupted in smoke and flames. The trip that was scheduled following the voyage had to be canceled.

The cruise does not expect the fire to impact the next voyage scheduled for Monday.
