Argentine, Mexican singer Noel Schajris is set to hit the stage at the Latin AMA's Thursday night, performing a brand new song with country star Jennifer Nettles. Billboard's Sigal Ratner-Arias caught up with him to talk about his busy schedule and how he gets ready for a performance like the Latin AMAs.

And I've been exercising every day for three years. The day I don't exercise, my body feels strange and nutrition is vital. I don't know if you've seen me on the show, but I keep jumping up and down and climbing on the rafters.

In addition to his work as a solo artist, he's part of the chart topping group Sin Bandera and talked about how he juggles it all.

Calendars are crazy, in the middle of a tour with Sin Bandera, that we've played 80 shows all over the world, owning my own record label, of my own music, release a new album, have three children, a family. It is very demanding. A lot of people tell me: I don't understand how you do it, but it works. It is achieved by the passion, I have for making.

As for his own music which includes his most recent album ‘Siempre Osupe' he says he's enjoying his freedom as an independent artist.

Herbal Tea & White Sofas: Noel Schajris Explains How He Takes Care Of His Voice Backstage

Argentine-Mexican singer/songwriter Noel Schajris details how his backstage essentials keep his voice stage-ready in this episode of Herbal Tea & White Sofas.

"There are some magical moments in live shows," Argentine-born singer/songwriter Noel Schajris reflects, "when you don't even remember you have a body and you feel like you're floating above the piano and the audience."

To maximize those "magical moments," Schajris has to make sure his voice is always in tip-top shape — and that's what he's got in mind when he fills out his tour rider. In this episode of Herbal Tea & White Sofas, Schajris says that he always requests a beverage that helps him take care of his voice.

"Lots of water, chamomile tea, a little bit of honey," he lists. "I always like to drink a chamomile tea before singing."

He adds that he likes to keep things simple backstage. "I'm not a high-maintenance artist,” he suggests. “You won't see me asking for just red M&Ms or beverages at very specific temperatures."  

While his focus is on making sure he's healthy and in top vocal form, tour is a time to celebrate, too. And when he feels like letting loose, Schajris' go-to treat is a good glass of wine. 

"I love Malbec, but I have to tell you the truth: I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon," he admits. "I really do. I'm a wine enthusiast. I'm a coffee enthusiast, too, but those two things, when I'm singing, they're not so recommended."

Schajris has been touring long enough to know what works; the Latin pop singer has toured extensively both as a solo artist and as one half of the chart-topping 2000s duo Sin Bandera. It Goes To 11: Noel Schajris Recalls The Fateful Story Of His Favorite Keyboard

Ever since Argentinian singer Noel Schajris was introduced to the Roland Go:Keys, he knew "we were meant to be."

It's easy to assume that a touring pianist's favorite instrument would be a top-of-the-line grand piano. But for Argentinian singer Noel Schajris , his go-to is one that is much more modest: a Roland Go:Keys keyboard.

"We were touring Spain last year, and my friend and collaborator, Jesús Molina, had it," Schajris recalls in the newest episode of It Goes to 11 . "He was traveling with this beautiful thing — it weighs like two pounds. It was so light."

Beyond its practicality, Schajris also loved the Go:Keys for its sound and knew he had to purchase one for himself. By a twist of fate, Molina's vendor was in the same country and had another one in stock.

The instrument's light weight allows Schajris to take it with him wherever he goes. That means the singer can make music anywhere in the world — ultimately, the Roland Go:Keys has become his "vehicle to express something."

And as the icing on the cake, this instrument is in his favorite color, red. "So, things happen for a reason. We were meant to be!" Schajris says with a smile.

GRAMMY Rewind: Kendrick Lamar Honors Hip-Hop's Greats While Accepting Best Rap Album GRAMMY For 'To Pimp a Butterfly' In 2016

Upon winning the GRAMMY for Best Rap Album for 'To Pimp a Butterfly,' Kendrick Lamar thanked those that helped him get to the stage, and the artists that blazed the trail for him.

Updated Friday Oct. 13, 2023 to include info about Kendrick Lamar's most recent GRAMMY wins, as of the 2023 GRAMMYs.

A GRAMMY veteran these days, Kendrick Lamar has won 17 GRAMMYs and has received 47 GRAMMY nominations overall. A sizable chunk of his trophies came from the 58th annual GRAMMY Awards in 2016, when he walked away with five — including his first-ever win in the Best Rap Album category.

This installment of GRAMMY Rewind turns back the clock to 2016, revisiting Lamar's acceptance speech upon winning Best Rap Album for To Pimp A Butterfly . Though Lamar was alone on stage, he made it clear that he wouldn't be at the top of his game without the help of a broad support system. 

"First off, all glory to God, that's for sure," he said, kicking off a speech that went on to thank his parents, who he described as his "those who gave me the responsibility of knowing, of accepting the good with the bad."

He also extended his love and gratitude to his fiancée, Whitney Alford, and shouted out his Top Dawg Entertainment labelmates. Lamar specifically praised Top Dawg's CEO, Anthony Tiffith, for finding and developing raw talent that might not otherwise get the chance to pursue their musical dreams.

"We'd never forget that: Taking these kids out of the projects, out of Compton, and putting them right here on this stage, to be the best that they can be," Lamar — a Compton native himself — continued, leading into an impassioned conclusion spotlighting some of the cornerstone rap albums that came before To Pimp a Butterfly .

"Hip-hop. Ice Cube . This is for hip-hop," he said. "This is for Snoop Dogg , Doggystyle . This is for Illmatic , this is for Nas . We will live forever. Believe that."

To Pimp a Butterfly singles "Alright" and "These Walls" earned Lamar three more GRAMMYs that night, the former winning Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song and the latter taking Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (the song features Bilal , Anna Wise and Thundercat ). He also won Best Music Video for the remix of Taylor Swift 's "Bad Blood." 

Lamar has since won Best Rap Album two more times, taking home the golden gramophone in 2018 for his blockbuster LP DAMN ., and in 2023 for his bold fifth album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers .

Some might prefer water and tea while on tour, but Texas-based rapper That Mexican OT gets all of his energy from a cold bottle of Mexican coke.

If there is one thing That Mexican OT will do while on tour, it's stay hydrated. But not necessarily with water — he prefers an ice-cold glass of Mexican Coca-Cola.

"This bad mama jama right here is a go-to for sure," he says in the latest episode of Herbal Tea & White Sofas . "A big part of me loving this is the Mexican heritage, but it also goes down perfectly."

Compared to American Coke, he says the Mexican version has a better taste because it uses natural cane sugar and no high fructose corn syrup.

When That Mexican OT wants something healthier, he opts for cranberry juice. "It's good for your kidneys," he shares. "Those antioxidants will keep you clean and running good, baby."

In his dream world, he would love to have a giant water slide in every green room. "I'm talking about a 20 to 40-footer," he quips with a smile. "Something simple. Easy to hit those dips."

As someone with a major sweet tooth, Thai-American rapper DABOYWAY can't go on tour without a few guilty pleasure items: red wine, Sour Patch Kids, and even a sugary cinnamon-scented candle.

While many artists might ask for healthy foods and tea on their tour rider, Thai-American musician DABOYWAY unapologetically requests three specific confections: red wine, Sour Patch Kids, and a cinnamon-scented candle.

"The red wine has to be from Chile," he says in the latest episode of Herbal Tea & White Sofas . He doesn't care which brand it is, but as long as it's Chilean, he's happy, because it's never done him wrong.

The rapper loves Sour Patch Kids because they remind him of his childhood. "I've eaten so many Sour Patch Kids at one time that the whole side of my mouth hurts from eating all that sourness ... If anyone wants to win my heart, bring me a bag of Sour Patch Kids," he reveals.

It was a special night for Yandel who received one of the three special awards of the night. The Puerto Rican hitmaker was honored with the Latin AMA Pioneer award. In his speech, he thanked “TK.” The other two special awards went to Ricardo Montaner and Banda MS, who each took home a Latin AMA Legacy award.

The first award of the night went to Peso Pluma, who won best regional Mexican album for his history-making set Génesis. “I just want to thank you for all the love you have shown corridos, the love you’ve shown me,” the Mexican star said in his speech. “Thanks to those who make this possible, especially to you my fans because you have made this wave of corridos even bigger.”

Just a few awards were handed out throughout the three-hour show, which was instead stacked with back-to-back performances. Those that did go up to pick up awards included Feid, who picked up streaming artist of the year, and Peso returned with Eslabon Armado for best collaboration in regional Mexican (“Ella Baila Sola”). Carin León also took the stage not only to premiere his song “Cuando La Vida Sea Trago,” he also went up to receive best artist – regional Mexican.

Other performances of the night included several premieres, including Marc Anthony, who sang “Ale Ale” from his new album  Muevense . And Carin León performed for the first time “Cuando La Vida Sea Trago.” Country singer Jennifer Nettles joined singer-songwriter Noel Schajris for the world premiere of “Love’s Still Here” from her upcoming bilingual album.

El título de gran ganador de los Latin American Music Awards 2024 fue para dos artistas: Feid y Karol G .

Los superastros colombianos se llevaron seis premios cada uno. Karol ganó artista del año, superando a Bad Bunny, Carin León y Peso Pluma, entre otros. También obtuvo premios al álbum del año ( Mañana Será Bonito ) y canción del año (“TQG”) con Shakira. Si bien la Bichota no estuvo presente, pues se encuentra de gira en Latinoamérica, sí estuvo Feid, quien actuó junto a Farruko y Jay Wheeler en un tributo especial a Yandel.

Solo unos pocos premios se entregaron a lo largo del espectáculo de tres horas, que en cambio estuvo repleto de actuaciones musicales. Entre los que sí subieron a recoger galardones estuvieron Feid, el primero en ser elegido artista del año en streaming, y Peso regresó con Eslabon Armado para aceptar el Latin AMA a la mejor colaboración en regional mexicano (“Ella baila sola”). Carin León también subió al escenario no solo para estrenar su tema “Cuando la vida sea trago”, sino para recibir el premio al mejor artista regional mexicano.

Las actuaciones de la noche incluyeron varios estrenos. Marc Anthony cantó “Ale Ale”, de su nuevo álbum Muevense . La cantante de country Jennifer Nettles se unió al cantautor Noel Schajris para el estreno mundial de “Love’s Still Here” de su próximo álbum bilingüe.
