It is also a good idea to pack a light jacket or sweater, as the temperature can vary depending on the region (especially at an elevation). 

For those interested in hiking or camping, pack your gear as July is a great time to do so. All trails are open and the weather is great to soak in the sun and the views.

Visitors can spend their days skiing or hiking in Banff National Park (one of Canada's most beautiful national parks and home of the glacier-fed Moraine Lake) and floating down the Bow River on a canoe before retiring to one of the area's several opulent hotels for some spa therapy. A trip to this British Columbia city, which sits approximately 145 miles north of Seattle, is all about embracing the outdoors. Vancouverites spend their days skiing on Grouse Mountain, swimming at Kitsilano Beach and strolling through the sprawling Stanley Park. Plus, Vancouver offers plenty of cultural attractions, including museums, art galleries and outdoor markets (a tour of Granville Island is a must-do). If you're not afraid of heights, walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is positioned 230 feet above the Capilano River.

Travel to this iconic destination in southeastern Ontario to see and capture photos of its namesake world-famous tourist attraction . View Niagara Falls from above during a helicopter tour, or see them up close on the Maid of the Mist boat tour. Or, for a unique perspective, admire the thunderous falls from behind with the self-guided Journey Behind the Falls experience. After you've taken in the splendor, check out the area's other top attractions, such as the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, which offers a variety of hiking trails. When you've had your fill of nature, head to nearby wineries or test Lady Luck at the casinos.

Referred to as the "small city with a big backyard," Whitehorse – the capital of Canada's Yukon territory – shines with all of its outdoor activities. Explore Miles Canyon, which is accessible from Whitehorse on foot (a nearly 10-mile loop trail connects the city directly to this natural wonder). After, head north to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, where you'll find all kinds of animals, including arctic foxes, elk, muskox and bison. Even though this region gets notoriously cold, you might want to time your visit around the first couple of weeks of winter for a chance to witness the northern lights.

A trip to Europe may not be in your budget, but a visit to Québec City could be. This Canadian city charms visitors with its picturesque centuries-old buildings that make up Old Québec – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meanwhile, the aromas of freshly baked bread and brewing espresso fill the cobblestone streets of the Quartier Petit-Champlain with the essence of Paris. Once you've gotten your fill of the city, take a trip to Montmorency Falls Park to marvel at its 272-foot-tall waterfall. Plan your visit for winter when the city comes alive with twinkling lights, festivals and cold-weather activities – just remember to pack your down jacket .

Take adventure travel up a notch with a visit to Whistler. In winter, this resort town in British Columbia (about 75 miles north of Vancouver) boasts everything from cross-country skiing and snowboarding to bobsled rides and bungee jumping. Travelers can spend their downtime in Whistler Village enjoying the après-ski scene, perusing locally owned shops or strolling through Whistler Olympic Plaza. Meanwhile, visitors in town when the weather is warmer can go hiking, fishing, horseback riding, kayaking and more. Plus, summer travelers will love exploring Brandywine Falls Provincial Park, home to the 230-foot-tall waterfall from which the park gets its name.

Home to rolling green hills, sandy beaches, red sandstone cliffs and a delicious bounty of seafood (this is where PEI mussels come from, after all), Prince Edward Island is the place to travel for a relaxing respite from Canada's more adventure-driven destinations. When you're not hiking the trails at Prince Edward Island National Park, perfect your swing at one of the island's golf courses or visit the Green Gables Heritage Place, where the 1908 novel, "Anne of Green Gables" was inspired. And be sure to keep an eye out for PEI's seal population (four kinds call the island home either full or part time).

This UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses nearly 700 square miles of land on Newfoundland's west coast. Its top activity is undoubtedly hiking through the Tablelands. Here, you'll traverse exposed earth mantle, a rust-colored landscape that was created millions of years ago by a collision of tectonic plates. Also save time for a boat ride on Western Brook Pond, which is a glacier-carved, landlocked fjord that features cascading waterfalls measuring 2,000 feet. After getting a taste of nature, learn about the region's history at the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse.

Montréal is a city of juxtaposition: Skyscrapers rub elbows with Old Montréal's 17th-century architecture while the familiar sounds of English intermingle with the foreign buzz of French – the official language of Québec province. Visit Old Montréal to get a taste of Europe (think: beautiful architecture and cobblestone streets), including its own Notre-Dame Basilica, a grand Gothic Revival-style church that offers self-guided tours along with an evening sound and light show. Then head to modern attractions, such as the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts. Meanwhile, if you're visiting during the warmer months, don't miss out on the Montréal Botanical Garden and the scenic Mount Royal Park.

While Montréal and Québec City honor Canada's French roots, Victoria pays tribute to the country's British heritage. Many pay a visit to Victoria, British Columbia's capital city, for afternoon tea, a tour of the beautiful Parliament Buildings or a history lesson at the Royal BC Museum. Others are interested in visiting Vancouver Island's wineries to sample local vinos. Meanwhile, animal lovers enjoy the abundance of marine wildlife that call the waters surrounding Victoria home. In fact, there are nearly 80 orca whales in Victoria's waters. What's more, since Victoria is one of the most sustainable urban destinations in North America, visitors can feel good about the impact of their trip.   

"Big" doesn't even begin to describe this Ontario city. With cultural pockets like Greektown, Little India and Koreatown all within city limits, Toronto has the ability to transport visitors around the globe. Take it all in with a ride up the 1,815-foot-tall CN Tower, or enjoy a quintessentially Canadian experience at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Then, head to the St. Lawrence Market to sample gourmet goodies before checking out the nearby Harbourfront Centre. And if the weather is right, plan a visit to the Toronto Islands, where you can relax on the beach, go kayaking or enjoy an afternoon bike ride.

The star of this national park on Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island is the world-famous Cabot Trail – one-third of which runs through the park. As you drive the winding highway, which is considered one of the world's most scenic drives, you'll pass forested river canyons, rural fishing villages and plenty of lookout points for admiring Nova Scotia's serene landscape. Prefer to explore the park on your own two feet? There are 26 hiking trails to choose from, as well as opportunities for kayaking, mountain climbing, camping and more.

Located a little more than 80 miles northwest of Montréal in Québec's Laurentian Mountains, Mont-Tremblant is best known for its skiing, specifically Mont Tremblant Ski Resort, which occupies the highest peak in the mountain range. But warm-weather visitors are equally enchanted by its Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, which boasts six rivers and 400 lakes and streams, not to mention countless hiking trails and beaches. Water sports, fishing and mountain biking are all popular here thanks to the area's diverse landscape.

Stretching across more than 150 miles, the Okanagan Valley is home to 86% of British Columbia's vineyard acreage and features more than 200 world-class wineries. There are also a variety of subregions in the valley, each promising its own unique experiences and grape varietals. Look for polar bears on the arctic tundra of Churchill or cruise Vancouver’s curvy coastline in a canoe while gawking at the city skyline. Feast on five-star fusion cuisine in Toronto, or take in a street-side jam session in Montréal. 

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning to experience something new, these are the best places to go in Canada. But you'll have to plan your trip ahead because this is the world’s second-largest country – you can’t see it all in just one go.

Best for diversity

A vibrant jumble of cultures and neighborhoods , Toronto strikes you with sheer urban awe. Will you have dinner in Chinatown or Greektown? Five-star fusion or a peameal bacon sandwich? 3. Manitoulin Island

The largest freshwater island in the world, floating right in Lake Huron’s midst, Manitoulin is a slowpoke place of beaches and summery cottages. Jagged expanses of white quartzite and granite outcroppings edge the shoreline and lead to shimmering vistas. First Nations culture pervades, and the island’s eight communities collaborate to offer local foods (wild rice, corn soup) and eco-adventures (canoeing, horseback riding, hiking). 5. Baffin Island

The island’s crown jewel is Auyuittuq National Park – its name means “the land that never melts,” and indeed glaciers, fjords and vertiginous cliffs fill the eastern expanse. The park is a siren call for hardcore hikers and climbers – and more than a few polar bears.

Local tip: Baffin Island is also a center for Inuit art; studios for high-quality carving, printmaking and weaving can be found in many of the small towns.

Picture-postcard Victoria is the heart of Vancouver Island , beating with bohemian shops, wood-floored coffee bars and a past steeped in English tea culture since the 1840s.  British Columbia ’s capital city is full of charm, but it’s only the kick-off point to an island that has a bounty of natural wonders to explore.

Brooding Pacific Rim National Park Reserve includes the West Coast Trail, where the wind-bashed ocean meets a mist-shrouded wilderness, and surfers line up for Tofino’s waves. With so many outdoor adventures to try, this is one of the best places in Canada for nature lovers.

7. Whistler

This 2010 Winter Olympics venue is one of the world’s largest, best-equipped and most popular ski resorts, and it’s only a 90-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. Featuring over 200 marked runs winding down two towering mountains – Whistler and Blackcomb – this alpine village is paradise for skiers of all levels.

Skiing may be Whistler ’s raison d’être, but summer visitors with their downhill mountain bikes and stand-up paddle-boards outnumber their ski-season equivalents, making the resort a year-round hot spot for locals and visitors alike. Adding more diversity, Whistler has recently developed a thriving arts and culture scene, with highlights like the Audain Art Museum and Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre taking the stage as equally appealing attractions to the famed slopes.

8. Old Québec City

Best place to visit in Canada for romantics

Québec’s capital is more than 400 years old, and its stone walls, spired cathedrals and jazz-filled cafes suffuse it with atmosphere, romance, melancholy, eccentricity and intrigue on par with any European city. The best way to soak it all up is to walk the old town’s labyrinth of lanes and get lost amid the street performers and cozy inns, stopping every so often for a café au lait and flaky pastry.

The city is also home to Québec’s scenic highway, Rte 132. Circling the Gaspé Peninsula , this road winds past the sea and the mountains, as well as charming towns. More than 700,000 people drive it each summer. Of course, it has yet to approach the romantic popularity of Canada’s “honeymoon capital,” Niagara Falls, a region that draws more than 14 million annual visitors. But head for La Gaspésie instead, young lovers. Because if you’re on your honeymoon, you don’t need 14 million other people hanging around.

9. Montréal

Best for music lovers 

As Canada’s second-largest city and the country’s cultural heart,  Montréal  is a marvel for music lovers. From June to August, Montréalers get high on sunshine in parks, beaches, mountaintop forests and endless festivals. The steamy outdoors is more alive than ever with arts-loving visitors filling the streets (and the cool of performance spaces), while rooftop bars turn into parties. The best jazz-influenced musicians in the world play to equally jazzed spectators at the annual  Montréal International Jazz Festival , where there are over 500 performances and shows to enjoy (and countless are free). Nature is also never far away in Montréal where a network of cycling paths, waterways and islands crisscross the city. 10. Rideau Canal

Best for ice skating

Opened in 1832, this 200km-long (124 miles) waterway – consisting of canals, rivers and lakes – connects Ottawa and Kingston via 47 locks. The Rideau Canal is at its finest in wintry Ottawa, where a stretch of it becomes the Rideau Canal Skateway – the world's largest skating rink.

People swoosh by on the 7.8km (4.8 miles) of groomed ice, pausing for hot chocolate and scrumptious slabs of fried dough called beavertails (a quintessentially Canadian treat). February’s Winterlude festival kicks it up a notch when townsfolk build massive ice sculptures.

Local tip: Once the canal thaws, it becomes a boater’s paradise, meaning you can appreciate it whatever time of year you visit.

11. The Prairies

Best for big-sky road trips

Solitude reigns in Canada’s middle ground. Driving through the flatlands of Manitoba and Saskatchewan turns up uninterrupted fields of golden wheat that stretch to the horizon, eventually melting into the sunshine. When the wind blows, the wheat sways like waves on the ocean, punctuated by the occasional grain elevator rising up like a tall ship.

Big skies mean big storms that drop like an anvil, visible on the skyline for miles. Far-flung towns include arty Winnipeg , boozy Moose Jaw and Mountie-filled Regina, interspersed with Ukrainian and Scandinavian villages.

Best for an iconic travel experience

Niagara Falls may be relatively short (it doesn’t even crack the top 500 worldwide for height), but when those great muscular bands of water arc over the precipice like liquid glass, roaring into the void below – and you sail toward it in a mist-shrouded boat – the falls never fail to impress.

While you’re there, extend your stay and head beyond the falls on a two-wheel biking adventure along the Greater Niagara Circle Route, or take a go at the Wildplay Zipline to the Falls , a pulse-pounding rush of a ride that offers unparalleled views of the falls below as you zoom through the sky.

13. Bay of Fundy

Best place to spot whales

It has lighthouses, boats and trawlers, fishing villages and other maritime scenery, yet Fundy is not your average Canadian bay. That’s because its unique geography results in the world’s most extreme tides, capable of reaching 16m (56ft) – about the height of a five-story building.

The tides stir up serious whale food, with krill and other plankton attracting fin, humpback and blue whales to feast, as well as endangered North Atlantic right whales, making a whale watch here an extraordinary must-do.

14. Churchill

Best for polar bear encounters

The first polar bear you see up close will take your breath away, and there’s no better place for an encounter than Churchill , Manitoba, which happens to be right on the bears’ migration path. From late September to early November, tundra vehicles head out in search of the razor-clawed beasts, sometimes getting you close enough to lock eyes with the beautiful bears. Summer lets you kayak or stand-up paddleboard with beluga whales.

15. Drumheller

Best for dinosaur enthusiasts

Dinosaur lovers get weak-kneed in dust-blown Drumheller , where paleontological civic pride runs high thanks to the Royal Tyrrell Museum , home to one of the planet's pre-eminent fossil collections. The world’s largest “dinosaur” is here, too – a giant fiberglass T-rex that visitors can climb and peer out of (through its mouth). Beyond the dino-hoopla, the area offers classic Badlands scenery and eerie, mushroom-like rock columns called hoodoos.

Summer is the most popular time of the year to visit Canada. For hikers and outdoor lovers, this is the best time to visit Canada, for the simple reason that you can guarantee the hiking trails will be open.

There are lots of festivals and events too in summer, and it’s a great time for a road trip.

June in Canada

June is the start of the summer high season, and this is when Canada starts to get busy as tourists begin to flock in for road trips and to explore the national parks. 

June is still a good time to avoid the worst of the crowds, which tend to arrive in July and August when many countries are in the midst of their school holidays.

In June, take to popular places like Banff and Jasper, and the wider Canadian Rockies and make the most of the newly opened hiking trails and the resurgent wildlife.  

July in Canada

July is busy, but that’s because weather-wise this is the best time to visit Canada. In the far north, you can enjoy endless hours of sunshine in offbeat destinations such as Edmonton or Whitehorse. 

While other travelers will head to the Canadian Rockies or Vancouver, in the Arctic Circle, you’ll find a fraction of the tourist numbers.

Get off the beaten track in July, and enjoy a unique experience without the crowds in the north.

July is also a great time for city hopping, like Montreal, Calgary and Toronto all throw big summer festivals through July to make the most of the sunshine. 

August in Canada

August will be just as busy as July across the country, but again, weather-wise this is one of the best times to visit Canada. 

The sun is still shining, and this is the last month of the year where you can guarantee the good weather before autumn arrives.

Go on a road trip in British Columbia, and take in the epic Sea to Sky Highway, or take the road more traveled and drive the Banff to Jasper Highway, along the Icefields Parkway.

But remember, that Canada is a vast country, and if you’re looking to travel off the beaten track and find secluded places, then it’s never too hard to do this away from the major tourist trails.

March in Canada

April in Canada

April can be quiet, although there will be a mini-high season over the Easter Holidays.

The weather is unpredictable, but expect it to be cold in most locations, with the odd sunny day as summer begins to arrive – slowly.

April is quite often the last month of the ski season, so head to Whistler or the Rockies for more snowsport action before summer arrives and the snow melts.

May in Canada

May is when the weather will finally begin to turn for the better across Canada, and this can be a fantastic time to explore the country. 

If you love your snowsports, then some ski resorts will still be open, and you can find some end of season deals.

However, this sprawling northern nation covers a multitude of climatic zones, each with distinct weather trends. The Canadian Prairies, a sizable grassland region encompassing the Great Plains and the Prairie Provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba), tend to remain hot and dry throughout the summer. 

Central Canada (Quebec and Ontario) sees more humidity in July than other areas, so expect to get a little sweaty if you’re being active outdoors – you can always cool off with a swim. Toronto sees highs closer to 27–30°C! The coastal regions tend to be a bit milder. Despite Canada’s size, weather patterns are largely the same across the country, with defined seasons similar to those in Europe. Coastal regions are usually more temperate than prairie provinces, and mountain ranges attract higher rainfall and snow in some areas than others. However, it’s cold everywhere in winter and warm in most locations in summer.

Springtime, which starts in late April through to early June, can also be a delightful time of year to visit. Gradual snow melt reveals forests and wildflowers, while Canadian wildlife re-emerges from the long winter hibernation.

September is considered the peak of the salmon run, attracting large numbers of bears. It also marks the start of autumn, with spectacular fall foliage lasting into October.

Visiting Canada in January - March

The weather is unquestionably cold at the start of the year, but if you're prepared and have packed appropriately you can enjoy the many activities and festivals that take place during the Canadian winter. There are popular cultural and sporting events and some incredible wildlife experiences, but perhaps best of all is the amazing phenomenon illuminating the dark winter skies known of course as the northern lights.

Events & Festivals

• Québec Winter Festival (last weekend of January to February): Lasting 14 nights, this is the world’s largest winter carnival, notable for incredible ice and snow sculptures. A great opportunity to combine with exploring Québec.

Visiting Canada in April

A good time to travel to Canada, with improving weather and longer days. Vancouver and the west coast in particular feel more pleasant. High up in the Rockies, the ski season is at its best with sunny days and blue skies. Elsewhere in the country, the chill of winter starts to disappear but weather can be unpredictable — be prepared for a variety of conditions.

Visiting Canada in May

Warmer weather, fewer crowds and lower costs make May a good time to visit Canada. There's still some chill in the air, but with the snow largely gone and spring flowers blooming many lodges start to reopen and national parks become more accessible, allowing visitors a chance to explore in relative solitude before the peak season starts. This time of year is also perfect for whale watching on the Atlantic coast, with humpbacks, minkes and belugas frequently sighted.

Visiting Canada in June

June is, for many, the ideal time to visit Canada. The full peak summer season hasn’t quite started, but the days are warm and long. Hiking trails are open, the lakes and rivers have thawed and wildlife is increasingly active. In the north of the country, parts of the Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories that have previously been inaccessible because of snow open up to uncover mountain ranges, forest valleys, lakes and glaciers waiting to be explored.

• Festival de Jazz de Montréal (June and July): The largest event of its kind, the festival attracts thousands of global jazz artists and features hundreds of concerts, with many events free of charge.

Visiting Canada in July - August

The long summer days offer opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors through the wonderful hiking, boating, camping and fishing opportunities available across the country. Summer festivals, including Canada Day and the Calgary Stampede, take place, and outdoor dining is popular in towns and cities. Summer is also a great time to view orca on the west coast of Canada as they follow migrating salmon on their long journey.

• Calgary Stampede (July): An annual rodeo and festival celebrating cowboy culture. The ten-day event is highly recommended and very popular. Often referred to as the ‘Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth’ and well worth combining with a more in-depth exploration of Calgary.
• The salmon run (late August to November): One of nature’s great events; salmon return from the ocean in huge numbers, travelling into the river systems of the west coast for spawning and attracting hundreds of bears and other predators.

Visiting Canada in September - October

The weather is comfortable in autumn, and the changing colours of the fall foliage is spectacular. Most outdoor activities can be enjoyed and temperatures, though cooler, are still pleasant. It is a great time to visit Niagara Falls in particular; with fewer crowds and the stunning autumn colours along the Niagara Gorge. September also sees the start of the salmon run and is consequently a good month to witness bears fishing for migrating salmon. October starts to get colder still, but offers the chance to spot polar bears as they make their way back from their summertime habitat. 

Visiting Canada in November - December

The days are darker, snow may have started falling and the temperatures drop with the onset of winter. Despite this, November and December are still lively months, with holiday season festivals and the re-opening of ice skating rinks making for great family entertainment.

• Toronto Santa Claus Parade (mid-November): A festive parade of decorative floats and costumes. It is now one of the largest parades in North America, attracting over half a million spectators each year.

Visiting Banff in July? Here’s All You Need to Know

There’s only one word to describe Banff in July – stunning. July is one of the best times to visit the Canadian Rockies if you’re after sunshine, warmth, and long days. I love Banff in July as the snow disappears off the mountain peaks, hiking is plentiful, and the vibe is delightful.

July in Banff also means clear days and nights, meaning you can play all day and stay up and star gaze with a hot tea by your side at night. So what’s the weather like in Banff in July and what can you do? Let’s dig in.

Things to Know Before Visiting Banff in July

What’s the weather like in banff in july.

Banff in July is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful times. July means it’s summer in the Canadian Rockies. The rainfall is low, and if you’re lucky, your vacation will mainly be sunshine and long, warm days.

The average temperature is 24°C but tends to be warmer in the afternoon under the sunshine. Yes, this means you can finally forget about winter, though you’ll still want to pack a packable down jacket and a shell jacket just in case, especially if you are doing lots of hiking.

I typically spend my days in shorts and a T-shirt in July. It’s also finally bathing suit season in Banff in July (a very short-lived season in the Canadian Rockies).

Is there snow in Banff in July? Thankfully, most of the winter snow has melted, and hiking trails are generally snow-free. However, the higher the mountain and the summits, the more snow you’ll find.

All that sunshine and melting snow have made the mountainsides a lush carpet of greenery, and the wildflowers abound. There’s a lot of daylight – about 16 hours per day, meaning the sun doesn’t set until after 10 pm and rises extra early. However, if you stay up late, you’ll be rewarded with superb stargazing.

If all this sounds too good to be true, that’s because there’s a pitfall. The park is filled with visitors, and you’ll need reservations for any popular camping spots. If you plan on staying in a Banff hotel, book your reservation well in advance and be prepared to pay premium prices.

Spots like Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, and Lake Minnewanka will be packed, and it’s going to be a struggle to get parking at peak times. Though don’t worry – the park is vast, and there are plenty of places you can visit without the crowds.

Festivals in July

On July 1, it’s  Canada Day . This is celebrated with processions and concerts in both Downtown Banff and Canmore! We like to escape the crowds and get out on a hike during the celebration.

If you like your festivities to be less wild and more of a weekly thing, then you’ll like  Banff Farmers Market .  This takes place every Wednesday (between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Central Park) throughout the summer and is the place to go for fresh produce, crafts, and ceramics – as well as food trucks if you get hungry. If you’re staying in Canmore, you can also check out the Canmore Mountain Farmers Market , which runs on Thursdays from May 23 until October 3, 2024 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Elevation Place (700 Railway Ave.).

Like music? Then, head to the funky   Canmore Folk Music Festival.   This long weekend of music and mayhem has been going since 1978.

What to Pack for Banff in July?

Is it cold in Banff in July? Well – it could be, so pack just about everything! Along with August, July is one of the warmest months in Banff National Park, but that doesn’t exactly make it incredibly warm.

So while you will probably be comfortable in shorts and a tank top throughout the day, it’s best to come prepared with a jacket and pants for nighttime. You’ll hardly ever be uncomfortable in pants in the Canadian Rockies.

Don’t forget to bring your hiking shoes and poles if you want to hike in the park. Also, a good daypack will come in incredibly useful. If you have nice dinner plans, don’t forget to bring a few nicer outfits for a night out on Banff Ave. Though you can honestly wear your Patagonia jackets and trail runners to just about any restaurant in Banff if you want.

Can You Visit Lake Louise in July?

Yes, you can visit Lake Louise in July , and it’s one of the best months to visit. Lake Louise is all thawed, and you can expect a bright blue glacial-fed lake to be waiting for you. The snow has melted off most of the Lake Louise hiking trails as well.

The only downside is it’s one of the busiest times of the year to visit the famous lake, and you’ll likely need to arrive by sunrise to get a parking spot at the lake. So plan accordingly. You can also plan to take the Roam Transit from Banff, or utilize the Park & Ride (which is what we recommend).

Can You Visit Moraine Lake in July?

Lake Moraine in July is an absolutely incredible time. Like Lake Louise, Moraine Lake is completely thawed and filled up to the brim . I say that because Lake Moraine is a glacial-fed lake that recedes depending on the season.

Most of the hiking around Lake Moraine is also good to go, though you should wait until August to attempt to summit Mount Temple.

July is prime time at Lake Moraine though, and you’ll need to plan out how you’re getting to Moraine Lake in advance. Since parking is no longer allowed at Moraine Lake , we recommend taking the Moraine Lake shuttle , booking a spot on the Moraine Lake Bus Company , or booking a private tour.

Things to Do in Banff in July

Hike healy pass.

One of the finest hikes in the Banff National Park is Healy Pass. The hike’s starting point is a short drive from the town of Banff at Sunshine Village, and it climbs a gradual pass until it unveils a pristine alpine meadow.

The meadow is resplendent for hiking and famed for wildflowers in Banff in the summer , and is well worth a hike. There are quite a few storybook vistas in the park, but Healy Pass rivals the best of them. You can read all about the Healy Pass hike here.

Go for a Bike Ride

Biking around Banff is one of the best things you can do while visiting. Whether it’s mountain biking or cycling, there are tons of trails to explore. My favorite long distance rides are the Legacy Trail from Canmore to Banff or the Bow Valley Parkway from Banff to Lake Louise.

If you want to mountain bike, there are great trails at the Nordic Center in Canmore.

Head to Emerald Lake

Emerald Lake isn’t technically in Banff, but it’s not far from it. Just past Lake Louise, you can drive into Yoho National Park and take in all the beauty there.

Emerald Lake is one of the most turquoise lakes I’ve ever seen and rivals Lake Moraine and Lake Louise in beauty. It’s definitely a must-visit spot in the Canadian Rockies. If you had canoeing on your bucket list, enjoy canoeing on Emerald Lake for a fraction of the price of Lake Louise or Moraine Lake.

Go Deep in the Backcountry on Horseback

Banff Trail Riders is a local company that can take visitors deep into the backcountry via horseback in the summer. It’s one of those bucket list experiences I would recommend to anyone who genuinely wants to live out those old Western dreams. We spent a week in the backcountry with Banff Trail Riders, which was marvelous.

Obvio usly, we know that not everyone has the kind of time for a multiple-day trip on horseback, but if riding a horse still interests you, we can’t recommend this one-hour ride along the Bow River enough!

Canoe on Vermilion Lakes

There are plenty of lakes to canoe on in Banff National Park. The closest one to town is Vermilion Lakes which sits right below beautiful Mount Rundle and is fun to canoe on. There are always some curious ducks and geese on the water, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a beaver.

Hike the Beehive Circuit

The Big Beehive and Little Beehive are two of the most popular hikes in all of Banff National Park and hiking them is one of the best things to do in Banff . While the trail often feels far from being in the wilderness, the surreal views make up for anything you can say negatively about the hike.

The greater “Beehive Circuit” makes for a tremendous day out for beginner to intermediate hikers with spectacular views and a solid challenge. Read all about the Beehive circuit here.

Go for a Hike in Kananaskis

There is plenty of hiking to do in Banff, don’t get us wrong. But for a change of views, it’s a great idea to do one or two hikes in Kananaskis Country . A few of our favorites are Smutwood Peak , Tent Ridge , and Sarrail Ridge.

Walk Across the Golden Skybridge

If you are keen to venture a bit outside of Banff or plan on embarking on a road trip to Revelstoke or Vancouver , it’s worth it to stop at one of our favorite towns – Golden!

Golden is about 45 minutes away from Emerald Lake and Yoho National Park. There’s plenty of things to do in Golden , but their newest attraction is the Golden Skybridge .

It’s not every day you can walk 426 feet above a vast canyon. Surrounded by the Columbia Valley, walking across this Skybridge while a river and waterfall crash below you is memorable. It’s one of the best things to do in the area with families.

Head Up the Banff Gondola

  The Banff Gondola  gets you to the top of Sulphur Mountain in just eight minutes and climbs to 2281 meters (7486 ft) above sea level. It’s unlikely you’ve ever climbed 698 meters so quick in your life!

Once at the top, you’ll have panoramic views of the Bow Valley and down toward Banff, with Cascade Mountain looming above it.

In July, this is one of the most popular things to do and you can expect it to be very busy here. We recommend booking the 8am time slot or later in the evening after 6pm so you can catch the evening light up here. If you’re up for a short walk, make sure to walk to the end of the boardwalk!

Catch Sunrise at Moraine Lake

It’s not possible to drive to Moraine Lake anymore for sunrise, so if catching the sun rising over the Ten Peaks is on your bucket list, you’ll have to make alternative plans. The Moraine Lake Bus Company is a shuttle service that starts as early as 4am in the summer, bringing people up Moraine Lake Rd so they can witness a special sunrise.

However if you want something a bit more exciting , Radventures runs an Earlybird Explorer Tou r that brings visitors up to Moraine Lake for sunrise. You’ll spend two hours at Moraine Lake taking photos and walking the lakeshore, before heading to Lake Louise early in the morning before crowds arrive. Radventures picks up and drops off at hotels in Banff.

Drive the Icefields Parkway

The Icefields Parkway, or Hwy 93, is a scenic drive between Banff and Jasper with visitors flocking from around the world to see it. It’s been frequently referred to as one of the best drives in the entire world, and after driving it many times, we have to agree.

In July, you can expect the Icefields Parkway to be very busy, so we recommend an early start (6am) to beat some of the crowds and make the most out of your day. There are many stops along the Icefields Parkway, and even with a full day, it’s unlikely you’ll get to most of them. If you have time, we recommend booking an Icefields Parkway hotel , like the Glacier View Lodge , to split up your day.

Admire Peyto Lake

Peyto Lake is a dazzling blue lake in Banff that is the third most visited in Banff after Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. Parks Canada recently completed renovations in 2021, and now there is a beautifully updated viewing platform to see the fox-shaped lake from. If you’re driving the Icefields Parkway , stopping here is a must.

Hike Parker Ridge

Speaking of the Icefields Parkway, if you plan to drive between Banff to Jasper , it’s well worth it to leave a few extra hours open in your schedule to hike Parker Ridge.

Parker Ridge is an easy hike in Banff that provides stunning views of the Saskatchewan Glacier. Seriously, it’s rare that I am rewarded with such beautiful views for low effort.

Guided Glacier Hike on The Athabasca with IceWalks

While it’s certainly possible to book the Ice Explorer vehicles and let them do all the heavy lifting to you to the foot of a glacier, we think it’s more fun to walk on Athabasca Glacier instead. This half day guided glacier hike will get you close to glaciers, and allow you to walk on the ice with microspikes.

eBike and Hike

You may have heard of Johnston Canyon, which is one of the most popular trails in all the Canadian Rockies. While it’s possible to drive to the trailhead, there’s not much fun in that!

Instead, we recommend an eBike & Hike tour , where you can bike along the Bow Valley Parkway before hiking along the Johnston Canyon trail. This half-day tour combines the thrill of e-biking along scenic routes that will take you past Vermilion Lakes, Legacy Trail forests, and onto the Bow Valley Parkway before you reach the trailhead.

Summit Cascade Mountain

For those that walk down Banff Avenue and see that massive mountain in front of their eyes and think, “can I climb that?” – this one for you. That mountain is Cascade Mountain, and you can summit it in a day.

A very long day, but a day nonetheless. Summiting Cascade Mountain will require you to embark on a 20km+ day with over 1500 meters of elevation gain.

Once at the top though, you’ll have fantastic views of the Bow Valley and Lake Minnewanka. There is some light scrambling involved to summit Cascade, so it’s best reserved for those with experience hiking in the Rockies.

Mt Norquay Chairlift

The Mt. Norquay summer chairlift is what we consider one of Banff’s hidden gems, with many visitors overlooking it for more popular gondolas in the area. However, it is one of the best things to add to your  Banff itinerary  when visiting  Banff this summer .

With great views of the Town of Banff and Mount Rundle, you can point out your favorite restaurants, hotels, and shops from a new perspective. The top of the Mt. Norquay chairlift allows you to enjoy time outside in nature, all while appreciating the views of your favorite peaks with minimal effort. If you want a bit more adventure, we highly recommend booking the Mt. Norquay Via Ferrata !

Lake Minnewanka Cruise

With long days and glorious weather, cruises on Lake Minnewanka are in full swing in July. The  hour-long panoramic cruise  heads to Devil’s Gap at the end of Lake Minnewanka and back. It’s a unique natural feature that looks out to the east and the plains of Alberta while enveloped in a mountain amphitheater.

As you cruise you are pretty much guaranteed great mountain vistas while you cruise across the blue water. Along the way, a guide will share stories about the area and land’s importance to the Stoney Nakoda people.

Stay at a Banff Cabin

Although my favorite time to enjoy a cozy Banff cabin is in the winter, it’s still pretty awesome to stay in one in the summer.

Who doesn’t love sleeping in a log cabin surrounded by Goliath mountains, without modern annoyances like WiFi? Get into the backcountry at Skoki Lodge or Halfway Lodge or enjoy a more catered experience at Baker Creek and Storm Mountain.

Easily the most famous and most expensive place to stay in the park. Primarily because it’s the only hotel on Lake Louise. Truly a once in a lifetime stay.

Emerald Lake Lodge

One of the most sought after places to stay is Emerald Lake Lodge on Emerald Lake. It’s the only place to stay in the area and will provide stunning views of Emerald Lake at sunrise and sunset!

The Malcolm Canmore

If you opt to stay in Canmore you can stay at one of the most amazing hotels in the Rockies for less than you would pay in Banff. Their pool views of the Three Sisters is worth the stay alone.

Celebrate Canada Day on July 1 with family activities, entertainment and fireworks in the Old Port of Montréal. Also in the Old Port of Montréal in the blue-and-yellow circus tent, Cirque du Soleil unveils a fantastical and awe-inspiring new creation, Kooza , on throughout the summer – get your tickets now!

Circus performances of all kinds make MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE a must from from July 7 to 17, featuring circus shows of all kinds, with outdoor performances downtown and 3GIANTS: three 50-foot-tall acrobatic archways in the shape of giant people! Just For Laughs puts a smile on everyone’s face with comedians from Canada, the US and around the world, including Kevin Hart, Bill Burr, Hannah Gadsby, Chelsea Handler, Patton Oswalt and Russell Peters, and also turns Place des Festivals into a fun(ny) zone for all ages from July 13 to 31. For comic and pop-culture fans of every age, Comiccon thrills from July 8 to 10. Groove to the sound of Festival International Nuits d’Afrique on indoor stages (including Ivorian roots reggae superstar Tiken Jah Fakoly at MTELUS on July 13) and outdoors in the Quartier des spectacles, from July 12 to 24. Montreal’s summer night sky glows again this year as the incredible L'International des Feux Loto-Québec fireworks competition returns on Wednesday and Saturday nights from June 25 to August 6 at La Ronde Six Flags theme park ‒ watch from the La Ronde waterfront stands, from the Old Port and Clock Tower Beach or on a rooftop patio .

Famed outdoor electronic dance party  Piknic Électronik continues every Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau from May 22 to October 2, featuring Ukrainian techno producer Nastia on July 3, DJ Rebekah and Leo Pol on July 10, Australia's Mall Grab on July 17, dance floor icon Ellen Allien on July 24 and many more producers. And Arsenal Contemporary Art immerses guests in The Queen’s Ball: A Bridgerton Experience , a social event and performance combining theatre, dance, live music, acrobatic performances, cocktails and more, until July 23. And on Saturday, July 2, the colourful and joyous Carifiesta parade rolls down René Lévesque Boulevard downtown.

July outdoor activities

Downtown, the  Jardins Gamelin  outside Berri-UQAM metro station entertains with free outdoor performances, music, karaoke, yoga, festival shows, Sunday morning family matinées , dance lessons, and more along with great food and drink. Nearby, stroll along Ste-Catherine Street in the The Village – if you’re there from June 29 to July 3 you might just find a piece of art to bring home at open-air art gallery Mtl en Arts . Visit other pedestrian-only avenues throughout the city too this summer, from Wellington St. in Verdun to Saint-Laurent Blvd. and Mont-Royal Ave. Among the city’s other entertaining seasonal spaces and farmers markets , go to the Marché des Possibles events at L'ENTREPÔT 77 every weekend with music, films, children’s activities, a biergarten and more.

Spending time in Montréal's parks and cultivated gardens is a highlight of summer. See  incredible city views  from  Mount Royal Park : take a walk through the park and up the stairs to the lookout or bus or drive up to Beaver Lake. Stroll around Parc La Fontaine , go to St-Michel’s Frédéric-Back Park to ride bikes or learn to fly big kites! Or cross the river to Parc Jean-Drapeau for long riverside walks and a different view of the city – while there why not visit the Biosphère Environment Museum too! May is also a wonderful time to see the city from two wheels , whether on your own bike, a rental bike , with a bike tour , or on a BIXI shared bike.

In Old Montréal, walk the cobblestone streets to the Saint-Lawrence River to visit the peacefully illuminated square outside  Notre-Dame Basilica – inside, see gorgeous multimedia show AURA . In the Old Port of Montréal , see incredible city and river views from the  Observation Wheel , climb high at Voiles en Voiles adventure park, ride the new mini-train , find your way through the SOS La byrinthe , explore the scientific world with kids at the Montréal Science Centre (currently hosting The Science of Guinness World Records Exhibition and Beyond Human Limits ), and even fly high on the MTL Zipline ! Take a boat ride with Croisières AML , Bateau-Mouche and Petit Navire , or go jet boating , spin boating and jet skiing . Stop by Marché des Éclusiers  for a bite and a drink. By night, look for the history-illuminating tableaux projections of  Cité Mémoire . 

Summer comes into full bloom at the Space for Life 's  Montréal Botanical Garden , both in the expansive outdoor gardens and in the tropical greenhouses. A very peculiar research French team, L'Expédition végétale , will conduct research on the site of the Jardin botanique this summer! Experience the amazing ecosystems of the  Biodôme and the mysteries of the universe at the Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcan . Outside Olympic Stadium, Îlots76 is a blast for kids, with bouncy castles, a play area, snacks and more, or try bouldering at Nomad Bloc , an outdoor climbing area. See butterflies, moths and other insects at the newly renovated Insectarium . Or head to the West Island’s  Ecomuseum Zoo to see local wildlife in their natural outdoor habitats.

Indoors, catch major league soccer team CF Montréal on the Stade Saputo pitch on July 9, 16 and 30. For hockey fans, the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft is open to the public on July 7 and 8. Relax in the warmth of world-class spas , including  Bota Bota, spa sur l’eau (their outdoor pools are open year-round), Strøm Nordic Spa (also with amazing outdoor pools), Scandinave Spa Vieux-Montréal and Spa William Gray . Montréal’s museums and art galleries inspire all year – and there’s always something new to see in summer . The  Montreal Museum of Fine Arts  features a diversity of programming for 2022 : this month, see L’heure mauve , an exhibition of work by Swiss-born artist Nicolas Party (plus the monthly evening Monochrome Party : July _’s theme is ___), Adam Pendleton, These Things We’ve Done Together , and two other new exhibitions Views of Within: Picturing the Spaces We Inhabit   and Museum of the Art of Today / Department of the Invisible by Montréal-based artist  Stanley Février , along with more to see throughout the museum. On stage in July

Montréal’s cultural calendar is packed this season, with music and performance festivals like the Jazz Fest and MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE and even more entertainment for everyone on the city’s many stages. The Segal Centre presents musical The Sages of Chelm , a tribute to Eastern European Jewish folklore, from June 19 to July 3. And on the occasion of the 24th International AIDS Conference, Montréal Pride presents Rapture , a choreographic tribute by Dave St-Pierre and 10 creators-performers at Le Monastère from July 27 to August 6.

On screen in July

Montréal’s Fantasia International Film Festival is famed for screening an incredible program of new and classic international genre cinema (including horror, action, speculative and uncategorizable creations) ‒ film fans won’t want to miss the 26th edition from July 14 to August 3. See classic and new films outdoors at Film Noir au Canal , opening its 6th edition with Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window on July 17 and running on Sunday nights until August 21. Cinéma sous les étoiles screens films outdoors in neighbourhood parks throughout the month, and so does French-language film festival CINEMANIA (with English subtitles). Cinema Public presents outdoor screenings, indoor screenings at Casa d’Italia, and online films.

The SAT, Cinémathèque québécoise and Quartier des spectacles present CINÉ-CONCERTS , films set to live music: The Limits of Control on July 14, Level 5 on July 15, It Follows on July 21 and L'homme à la caméra by Dziga Vertov on July 22 at Parc de la Paix. Indoors, the SAT presents winning immersive creations from SAT Fest 2022 in the Satosphere dome until the end of July.

See the art world in a whole new light thanks to the International Festival of Films on Art year-round ART FILM program. In classical music, the  Orchestre symphonique de Montréal  with Maestro Rafael Payare moves from Maison symphonique to perform at the annual Festival de Lanaudière in Joliette, featuring several other orchestras, ensembles, choirs and soloists in concert from June 30 to August 7. Electronic and pop music goes big at the Society for Art and Technology downtown, with Lebanon Hangover on July 2, Boy Harsher on July 17, and the DROP [05] industrial techno showcase on July 23. Immerse yourself in experimental, spatialized sound at SUBSTRAT 2022 in the Satosphere dome downtown, featuring artists Erin Gee, Debbie Doe, Red Spills and other creative forces, from July 5 to 7.

At the Bell Centre, sing along with Alanis Morissette on July 12, British rock royalty Roger Waters on July 15, and Dua Lipa (just ahead of her Osheaga performance) on July 25. MTELUS hosts Jazz Fest shows as well as Alexisonfire on July 14 and 15, Beach House on July 16 and Bikini Kill on July 18. Blue Skies Turn Black also co-presents Jazz Fest shows including Arooj Aftab at Club Soda on July 5, Japanese Breakfast at Corona Theatre on July 20, Eivor at La Tulipe on July 26, and all kinds of shows at Bar Le Ritz PDB and L’Escogriffe. While Greenland presents The Tea Party on July 8 and 9 at Corona Theatre, Chase Atlantic on July 23 and 24 at Corona Theater, Koffee at L’Olympia on July 26, and more.

Jasper Month by Month: What to Expect When Visiting the National Park

Jasper National Park boasts bold Canadian Rockies scenery and brims with year-round outdoor adventure. Every season here is unique, with each month providing a wealth of activities. Jasper's beauty also never wanes, and the park's sheer size ensures there's always something new to discover. As such, there's no "best time" to visit Jasper. It merely depends on the experience you're craving.

To inspire your wanderlust, here are some of Jasper's hallmark highlights, month-by-month:

January in Jasper

Bundle up; January is crisp in the Canadian Rockies. However, cool temperatures create a magical winter wonderland. Think snow-draped trees, shimmering frozen waterfalls and a dazzling starlit sky. The new year also marks the town's beloved Jasper in January festival. Visit during this time to save on hotels, activities and restaurants and participate in the celebration.

February in Jasper

Jasper in February promises epic powder and a quiet mountain escape. Head to Marmot Basin to ski or board on five mountain faces. Try some tricks in one of the two terrain parks, play in trees, whip down a groomer or glide through an alpine bowl. Marmot's diverse terrain offers runs for every ability, making it perfect for families. Après slope-side or back in town at the Jasper Brewing Company . If you're looking for a picturesque adventure off the slopes, a guided Maligne Canyon Icewalks tour is a must. Not only does the experience include a hike amidst towering frozen falls and ice caves in Jasper's deepest accessible canyon, but it also comes with a delicious smokehouse lunch at Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen .

March in Jasper

Skiing, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, al fresco ice skating, snowshoeing and fat-tire biking are some of the activities awaiting your discovery in March. As the weather warms and the days stretch longer, you'll want to spend more time exploring the outdoors. Bring your camera and head off on a self-guided photo tour — Jasper's sunsets are incredible. Tour the downtown culinary scene, stroll the Pyramid Lake shoreline, then indulge in a treatment at  Spa Jasper in town. At the end of the month, take a ride up Whistlers Mountain on the Jasper SkyTram — the view from the top is jaw-dropping.

April in Jasper

In April, Jasper welcomes spring into the valley. Warmer temperatures also create an entirely different skiing experience at Marmot Basin. It's a party on the mountain as the season nears its end. Jasper Pride Festival is also held this month, and you'll find events and activities commemorating the festival both on the hill and in town. Weather conditions fluctuate in April — from sunshine to snow to rain — so you'll want to pack for almost every season.

May in Jasper

With the snowmelt comes rushing rivers and waterfalls, as new life bursts in the national park. Trees begin to create a canopy of green, wildflowers bloom and Jasper's hibernating wildlife make their annual appearance. It’s also the perfect season to book a tee time at one of the Canada’s best golf courses. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course opens in early May, and the Stanley Thompson-designed course offers an unforgettable golfing experience set against beautiful mountain scenery.

June in Jasper

Like May, June in Jasper presents an assortment of weather. However, all summer tours and attractions are open this month, and spring finally reaches the high alpine. It's an excellent time for wildlife watching, especially in the early morning and dusk hours. Take a drive to Maligne Lake Road for exceptional sighting opportunities and to experience the majesty of Spirit Island on the Maligne Lake Cruise . Explore mountain trails on foot or by bike. There's much to see and do.

July in Jasper

Celebrate Canada Day in the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. July marks the official summer season in Jasper, and all outdoor adventures are in full swing. The patios are sun-drenched and bustling, and the town is abuzz with activity. Seek solitude on the mountain trails or embrace the tranquility of Pyramid Lake with an early-morning paddle . The summer days are long in Jasper, so you'll have plenty of time to fill them with your favourite activities.

August in Jasper

August is the pinnacle of summer fun in the Canadian Rockies — from golf and horseback riding to whitewater rafting and mountain climbing. Take some time to drive down the Icefields Parkway for stunning scenery, waterfall hikes and a thrilling adventure on the Columbia Icefield Skywalk . Keep watch for wildlife, as the area is a popular haunt for bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep and more. Dine waterfront at The View at Maligne Lake and look for locally inspired farm-to-table menus at Jasper's top restaurants.

September in Jasper

Consider September the golden month in Jasper. Visit after Labour Day, and you'll enjoy most of summer's offerings with the bonus of smaller crowds. It's also a visually stunning time to tour the national park, so be sure to pack your camera. Wildlife is active, leaves are transforming into vibrant gold and the afternoon sun keeps the patios warm. Check out Maligne Canyon, then dine at the Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen . Take a breath, slow down your pace and enjoy Jasper's natural beauty.

October in Jasper

Jasper wows in October, with Thanksgiving, fall foliage and wildlife galore. It's also the start of the park's rutting season, so listen for the clashing of horns and antlers as male elk, deer and bighorn sheep compete for female attention. Catch one of the season's last Maligne Lake Cruises, then drive out to Miette Hot Springs for an evening soak and stargaze. The annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival , celebrating the world's largest accessible dark sky preserve, is the event of the season. You'll have to reserve well in advance to partake in the many concerts, light shows, starlit dinners and Jasper Planetarium experiences.

November in Jasper

November is a quiet, in-between month in Jasper. The weather varies, and the park feels calm and peaceful. It's a lovely time to wander through town, check out new restaurants and rejuvenate at a spa. Shoulder season prices are wallet-friendly, and the ski season typically kicks off mid-month. If you want to “live like a local,” November is your best bet.

December in Jasper

Wishing for a white Christmas? December in Jasper feels like the inside of a snow globe. Trees are trimmed, fires roar, fairy lights sparkle and all the quintessential winter activities are back. Glide across a frozen lake, roast marshmallows beneath the stars, fly down a toboggan hill, then make a snowman. Head out on a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Come for the holidays, and stay to ring in the New Year. Many local hotels have festive events like cookie decorating and scavenger hunts throughout the month. December may just be the most magical month of all.

July in Montreal: Weather, What to Pack, and What to See

July is one of the most popular months to visit Montreal. Tourists flock to the city to experience great summer events and free attractions the city has to offer this month. While the weather may be hot and humid, July events start early with the International Fireworks Competition and Canada Day celebrations and continue all month long with events like Carifiesta, ComicCon, and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival.

Since July and August are the height of the summer tourist season, you should be prepared for large crowds, especially in the Old Port and Downtown districts of the city around the holidays, on weekends, and during festivals. Also, you should pack breezy, comfortable clothing to help you stay cool in the wet heat of Montreal's summer.

Montreal Weather in July

Although winter is long and cold and spring is brief and temperate, the summer can get downright sweaty in Montreal, making it harder to enjoy some of the great outdoor events happening in the city.

In the daytime, Montreal is hot and humid, which means the average high of 80 F (26.6 C) will feel more like 104 F (40 C), but nights in the city are wet and relatively chilly for the summer with average low temperatures reaching 64 F (18 C). July is also a lot wetter than most people expect, with some sort of precipitation happening most days of the month, including an average of 11 days of moderate or heavy rain and 12 days involving light showers.

What to Pack

Since the weather is usually hot and humid, you'll want to avoid anything polyester or constricting and instead opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics and minimal body coverage with your clothing. Also, don't forget to bring a light cardigan or jacket in case you get cold at night.

Your packing list should ideally include shorts, linen pants, short-sleeved and sleeveless shirts, tank tops, summer dresses, light cardigans (linen or merino wool for wicking sweat), wraps, light cotton jackets, long pants, closed-toe and open-toe shoes, sandals, sunglasses and sunscreen, an umbrella and raincoat, and a windbreaker for some of the particularly breezy evenings.

Canadians can expect to get a new round of extra money from the government this summer.

As the travel season gets underway, it doesn't hurt to have some extra cash, especially as prices continue to soar for groceries and housing .

For those worried about the new expenses the summer season will inevitably bring, you could get some relief with the help of the federal government's benefits, credits, and rebates.

Here is how and when you'll receive more money from the feds this summer.

Date you'll receive the money: July 5

The goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit is a tax-free quarterly payment.

It aims to help Canadian individuals and families with low to modest incomes offset the taxes that they pay.

According to the government, you could get up to:

• $496 if you are single
• $650 if you are married or have a common-law partner
• $171 for each child under the age of 19

You don't need to apply for this credit because you're automatically considered for it when you file your taxes.

Last year, Ottawa doubled the GST credit for six months during the height of inflation.

Canada Child Benefit (CCB)

Dates you'll receive the money: june 20, july 19, august 20.

The CCB — a tax-free payment from the government to help with the cost of raising children — is administered monthly by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Read this to learn if you're eligible, how you can apply, and how much you can get.

Canada Workers Benefit (CWB)

Date you'll receive the money: july 12.

The CWB is a refundable tax credit that helps low-income individuals and families.

You're eligible for the basic amount of CWB if you are:

• Over 19 years old on December 31, or live with a spouse or common-law partner or your child
• Are a resident of Canada throughout the year
• Are working but earning less than the net income level set for your province or territory of residence

Eligible single Canadians can receive up to $1,428; meanwhile, families can earn up to $2,461.

You can also get up to $737 for the disability supplement based on your annual income.

Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR)

Date you'll receive the money: july 15.

The Canada Carbon Rebate (previously known as the Climate Action Incentive Plan) is a tax-free amount to help eligible individuals and families offset the cost of federal pollution pricing.

It comprises a basic rebate and a supplement for residents in small and rural communities.

Canadians in Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan can receive the federal carbon tax rebate.

A family of four may receive the following quarterly payment amounts:

• $450 in Alberta
• $300 in Manitoba
• $280 in Ontario
• $376 in Saskatchewan
• $190 in New Brunswick
• $206 in Nova Scotia
• $220 in Prince Edward Island
• $298 in Newfoundland and Labrador

The amount you receive also depends on whether you qualify for a rural supplement, have a spouse or common-law partner, and whether you have children. You can calculate your carbon tax rebate here .
