How to Design Graphics for Travel Agency

blog-banner

The tourism industry is one of the rapidly growing industries worldwide. According to a study conducted by Statista , the Travel and Tourism market is projected to reach $383,782m in 2021. Furthermore, the global market of the travel agency sector currently has more than 205 thousand businesses . Hence, undoubtedly the industry is super competitive. It might be cumbersome for you to stand out from the crowd in this competitive market. So, you need to improve your Travel Agency Marketing strategy and offer your customers something unique and innovative.

You can put all your efforts into strategy, campaigns, and sales but poor design can ruin all your efforts immediately. Every graphic that you design for your travel agency is a visual representation of your business.

Hence, those graphics are your biggest opportunities to set a positive image in the market. This blog post will show you how you can design excellent graphics to execute your travel agency marketing strategy.

But before that, let’s discuss the importance of graphic design in the travel agency.

Table of Contents

Importance of graphic design in travel agency marketing, how dochipo can help you design graphics for travel agency.

Graphic design is the most powerful art that has breathed fresh life into marketing for every industry, including travel. Below are a few points that describe the importance of graphic design in travel agency marketing.

Create Great First Impression

The design of your marketing materials determines how your customers view your business. Your choice of colors, icons, and typography says a lot about you. Therefore, graphic design is essential for your travel agency to create a great first impression.

A customer can come across your social media page or your YouTube channel, or even your Business Card for the first time before doing business with you. But it takes only 17 milliseconds for people to form a first impression.

So, you need to design these materials for your travel agency very carefully. Because you will never get a second chance to create a first impression. Only good design can attract the eyes of your audience for a few seconds.

Show Credibility

When it comes to the growth of your business, you must put your customers at the core of your business. Nothing can be more effective than a loyal customer for your business growth. And for that, you must show the credibility of your business. Graphic Design can help you achieve that.

The more content you provide that demonstrates your products or services the more your customers will trust your brand.

Moreover, it makes your business transparent. Design graphics to consistently publish content on your social media platforms or websites. It will help you share information with your customers in a trendsetting manner.

Deliver Your Message

Storytelling is one of the most important aspects of your travel agency marketing. Every business has a story to tell, and so do the travel agencies. Your travel agency business needs to narrate stories to your customers because it gives them a feeling of what the business is like before deciding to make bookings from you.

Graphic design says more than just words to your audience. A simple design element like an illustration or color combination can convey the message you want to deliver that words alone can not. Thus, justifying the sentence – “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words.”

Kill Competitions

If you think graphic design is only about pictures and design elements, you are probably mistaken. Graphic design is about solving critical problems straightforwardly through the use of imagery. Thus, it helps marketers develop brand awareness and influence the decision-making process of their customers.

To stand out from the crowd and stay ahead of the competitors in the market, you must be creative. You must aim to design travel agency marketing materials that your audience will benefit from.

Communicating with your customers through design is a unique approach towards capturing the most of the market. Hence, you will stay way ahead of your competitors.

10 Artists to Inspire Your Travel Illustration Journal

  • by @amy.mcgregor

Find out how to bring a destination to life through travel illustration and the top artists to inspire your work

Travel. There’s nothing quite like it. The chance to experience new sights, sounds, and smells, to wander off the beaten track and make new discoveries, or simply kick back and relax for a week on a sun-drenched beach.

When we imagine the far-flung places we’d like to visit, reminisce about past adventures, or indeed, advertise a location to others, we turn to photos as the most powerful medium to capture the essence of a place.

But there is another, equally effective and arguably more creative way to bring a destination to life: travel illustration.

Alex Green ( @algreen_1 ) has been an illustrator for over 25 years and specializes in the art of travel illustration . He has worked in many areas including design, fashion, editorial, murals, websites, and live events, with a varied and enviable list of clients including Airbnb, the BBC, Emirates Airlines, Pfizer, The Guardian , The Financial Times , and Oxfam.

In his Domestika course, he demonstrates how to create travel illustrations that have a sense of place and atmosphere from photographic references of a location, and explains how to apply personal experiences to your illustrations to create pieces with your own vision and interpretation.

What is travel illustration?

Travel illustration is simply the art of drawing a place instead of photographing it. You can use a photo as a reference point, draw inspirational settings in real time as you travel, or recall them from memory.

The aim is not necessarily to copy the location exactly as you see it, but to give it your own interpretation and tell a story by focusing on conveying a particular emotion, theme, or atmosphere.

'Florence', travel illustration by Alex Green.

What are the benefits of travel illustration?

Aside from being a great way to practice your creative skills, illustrating a place allows for more freedom of expression and interpretation, giving you the opportunity to explore the limits of your imagination for a truly unique and personalized result.

It may require more time and patience to complete, but illustration also allows you to really connect with a place, bringing it to life through your drawings and recapturing those precious moments you spent there.

Illustrator Alex Green applies his personal experience to create beautiful travel illustration pieces.

10 Artists to Inspire Your Travel Illustration Pieces

Although using your own photos as a point of departure usually means you have a greater connection with your reference, there is no reason why you can’t choose other images of locations you would like to visit. They could be photographs taken by someone else, or something you have found on the internet, as long as they spark your imagination.

Of course, all artists look to other artists for inspiration and Alex is no different. In this Domestika blog, he shares with us the top 10 artists who inspire his work, providing an invaluable tool that can help you begin thinking about how to develop your style, techniques, and give you ideas for your illustrations.

Miroslav Sasek

@miroslavsasek

The Czech artist is both illustrator and author of the This is series of children’s travel books, which bring to life key destinations around the world including New York, Rome, London, and Paris.

Abstract and representational elements contrast in his illustrations, making for a beautifully original take on seemingly-familiar places.

'This is Rome', by Miroslav Sasek.

Katsushika Hokusai

@katsushikahokusai

Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist, printmaker, and painter who lived from 1760 to 1849. He is most recognized for his woodblock print series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji , made in response to a domestic travel boom in Japan.

From this collection, one piece in particular stood out among the rest. The Great Wave Off Kanagawa is arguably the most iconic piece of work in Japanese art, and went on to inspire many 19th-century European painters.

'The Great Wave Off Kanagawa', by Katsushika Hokusai.

Evan Hecox is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Colorado, whose work often takes inspiration from travel.

He has a particular talent for capturing the mood and feeling of a place or moment in time, as well as giving new life and beauty to objects that are often overlooked or dismissed as mundane.

Tom Haugomat

@tomhaugomat

The Paris-based illustrator and director has had his work featured in Air France Magazine, Revue XXI, and Le Monde. His illustrations have a distinctly cinematic quality, perhaps as a result of his background making short films.

Perhaps the most interesting element of his work is that his characters have no facial features, although he is still able to convey depth and emotion through his use of color and negative space.

Josh Cochran

@joshcochran

This Grammy-nominated, Brooklyn-based illustrator has clients including Adidas, Apple, and The New Yorker , and he currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts in NYC.

He is known for his bold colors, humorous drawings, and urban murals.

Bruno Mangyoku has worked as an illustrator and animation director who is greatly influenced by American graphic novelists such as Daniel Clowes and Charles Burns.

Hokyoung Kim

@hokyoungkim_

The South-Korean artist and illustrator lists clients including The New Yorker , The Washington Post , Apple, and Disney.

Designers are almost guaranteed to feel at home in Marrakesh or any other Moroccan city. Some renowned artists have found rich sources of inspiration during brief and extended visits to the country. Any destination you choose will be filled with colors and patterns that are the foundation of modern and traditional designs. Then, there’s the fascinating history, flavorful food and crowded souks. Everything in Morocco can influence your current designs and be incorporated in all types of projects in multiple mediums.

With the recent restoration of governmental relations between the United States and Cuba, many voyagers are including Havana in their travel plans. For graphic designers, Havana and other Cuban cities offer something more than coffee and cigars. They are a treasure trove for typography. There are vintage signs on street corners and above shop windows. On sidewalks, visitors will find ornate business names and mosaic logos inlaid in sidewalks and facades. It’s easy to be inspired by the colors of the city and the locals’ eclectic fashions. The vintage beauty of Havana has been largely untouched, which makes it an irresistible design destination.

In 2006, Berlin became a UNESCO City of Design . Creative people can discover a side of the city that most visitors will never see. Hotels, tour companies, neighborhoods, markets, museums and businesses cater to travelers with an interest in art and design. With its many schools and organizations, including nine fashion colleges, you could even take a fun design workshop while you’re in town. Visitors can be inspired, meet new friends and learn exciting skills. Berlin is arguably the most contemporary and high-tech art center in the world.

Hong Kong has a beautiful and inspiring coastal location, but travelers with an interest in stylish marketing and advertising can find something else in the heart of Kowloon. Thoroughfares like Nathan Road and Fa Yuen Street are lit up with artful neon signs. They are colorful and eye-catching iconographic advertisements for jewelry stores, family-owned restaurants and global brands. These famous advertisements are slowly disappearing from the streets. Unfortunately, city ordinances claim that the signs are illegal structures although they have been hanging over shops for some 40 years. By 2019, many of these historic signs will appear in M+, a museum dedicated to visual culture.

For dedicated fans of minimalism, there are many temping destinations in Europe and Scandinavia, but Copenhagen wins the popular vote. If you need a reason to go, here are a few. Danes are the happiest people on the planet, and Denmark probably has more design aficionados per capita than any other city. It was also home to Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton and many other celebrated designers. If you aren’t prepared for a shopping spree in the city’s trendy boutiques, you can always window shop. Copenhagen’s warm and cozy style is particularly charming in autumn and winter. It’s the perfect city to learn more about Scandinavia’s simple and tasteful style.

The world is full of exotic and intriguing destinations for people who love seeing and creating beautiful things. The gestalt of each city and region can be discovered with open eyes, a good sketchbook and a little effort.

  • Comparisons : A graphic should show comparisons, contrasts, and differences.
  • The Minard map compares the two legs of the campaign, and it also compares the army's progress and army size with temperature data.
  • Causality, Mechanism, Structure, Explanation : A graphic should illustrate causality.
  • Tufte suggests that Minard's maps is thin on causality, not going beyond the temperature  explanation.
  • Multivariate Analysis: A graphic should show many variables.
  • Minard's map shows latitude and longitude, army size, the size of the army, the chronology of the campaign, and temperature.
  • Integration of Evidence: graphics should combine "words, numbers, images, and diagrams" in clear and explanatory ways.
  • Minard's map nicely integrates the graphical and textual.
  • Documentation: A graphic should establish its credibilty by citing sources and using other mechanics of scholarly documentation and rigor.
  • Not surprisingly, Minard cities his data sources clearly, provides his own name, etc.
  • Content Counts Most of All: A graphic should be tailored to present the basic information or ideas of interest. The form of the graphic is less important than its content.
  • Minard did not set out to produce a jazzy graphic, bur rather to illustrate starkly the horrors of war.

Day trips in Russia

Newcomers can test their “strength” on a one-day trip – the roads should not be complicated and the distances should not be too long. For first-time riders, study the route carefully, taking into account not only the length of the road, but also the conditions: there should be no long climbs and no high mountain passes. The flatter the road, the better. Do not ride close to crowded and busy large traffic lanes, even if conditions permit.  Also, make sure carry your Russian invitation letter with your visa .

Route: Levutov – Pavlovsky town

Distance: 65 km

From Reutov (metro station “Novokosino”) outside Moscow, via Saltykovsk, Zheleznodorozhny, Fedurnovo, then turn to Biserovo, to Staraya Kupavna, then to Elektrostal via Ivashevo, and finally to Pavlovsky Posad via Subbotino, the intercity electric train This is a good route for newcomers to the town of Pavlovsky Posad (Vokhna or Pavlovsky Posad station).

This route is good for beginners: the terrain remains almost unchanged throughout the route. It’s mainly asphalt, but it’s quiet, with a rural landscape and few cars. Also, there are many intercity train stations along the way – if you get tired, you can take the train back to Moscow.

For the uninitiated, there are plenty of suitable roads around Moscow. The entire Moscow region is dotted with railway lines, so it is not necessary to make a circular route. You can take an intercity train to one station and back from another. There are many convenient route options around most Russian cities. You can make your own route, or take the advice of experienced travelers and use an already prepared route map.

Two-day trips in Russia

If you can travel 60-70 km per day, it’s no problem and you’ll be able to ride for two days. First of all, you need to solve your overnight problem: will you stay in a hotel, borrow a private house or pitch your own tent? Be sure to take the weather into account and take extra things that will keep you warm or heated.

When choosing your route, add some “hills” on the way, but not too steep.

Keep an eye on your bike. Ideally, it should be carefully checked and tested two days before departure; if you don’t know much about bike parts, you should have a full “car check” at a good mechanic’s shop to remove all faults in time.

Route: ride along Nizhny Novgorod and rest on the Volga

Distance: 140 km

This is a self-guided route with picturesque Volga forests, where you will have to pitch a tent on the road overnight. You don’t have to think about the schedule of electric trains or buses, even if you are delayed on the way, don’t worry.

From Nizhny Novgorod, you will pass through the town of Bor (you can cross the Volga by cable car). Next, head to Ivanovskoye. On the way, note the unique, interlocking bi-level railroad: it is no longer in use, but the original structure is still there. Then go in the direction of Yurasovo, where you will turn to Maloye Utkino, then to Beryozovka, to Vypolzovo, then to the Volga River, to Apraksino, passing through the hill fortress with its ancient earthen embankment. Hillfort, which retains its ancient earthen berm.

tourism graphic design

After that, follow Orlovo, Belkino, Yamnovo, Zavrazhnoye, Selishi. After passing through Zhukovka, you can go straight through the forest to the bank of the Volga River and find a place to pitch your tent.

The next day, go in the direction of Pumra, then through Vagankovo, Orekhovo, Markovo, turn left at Matveyevka, go to Vatoma, then through Put’kovo and back to the banks of the Volga, then to the town of Pol, and then to Nizhny Novgorod.

There are many suitable two-day rides in the Volga Valley, around the Voronezh region, around the cities along the Golden Ring and in the Crimean steppe.

Multi-day rides in Russia

Riding for several days in a row is a very serious matter and you need to be physically prepared. For the first time, choose a route that is not too difficult and not extreme, because riding a few days in a row is not at all the same as riding 100 km in a week. Please estimate that it is more comfortable to travel 70-80 km per day on the plains and with much less hills.

Check to see if there are any settlements along the way – it depends on whether you’ll be carrying a lot of food, or if you can buy all your food along the way. But whenever and wherever you go, make sure you have drinking water on you. Please do not forget to constantly replenish your supplies and have an emergency reserve – about 1.5 liters of water per person.

Route: “Crimean coast: from Kerch to Alushta”

Distance: 270 km , 5-7 days

We have intentionally divided the trip on this route into several days, as it depends a lot on your fitness and desire to visit the sights – which will be seen on the way, and quite a lot of them. There will be some mountain passes – if you feel tired as you pass them, it is always possible to set up camp early and prepare for an overnight stay. Almost the entire road runs along the coastline. If you don’t want to pitch a tent, you can easily find a place to spend the night in the resort.

Get off the ferry to Kerch and head directly to the Feodossia steppe. Pass through the town of Ordzhonikidze and head to Koktebel. Be prepared for a long and tiring uphill climb. If you don’t want to tire yourself out that much, then sacrifice some of the scenic views and take a different route – along the Simferopol highway.

From Koktebeli there is a difficult mountain road leading to Sudak. The strongest will can cycle to the town of “Novyi Svit” in one day, while the rest of the people should go to the village of Morske and then to Alushta via Rybache and Malorichens’ke. From Alushta, you can take a bicycle and a trolleybus to Simferopol, from where you can return by plane or return to Kerch by bus or taxi.
