Why travel on our Kirra tours in New Zealand?

Relax in Stylish Surroundings

When you’re on a holiday, you want to feel at home. You want to be surrounded by things that make you smile, and you want to have access to all the amenities you need to rest and relax. That’s why we’ve chosen our accommodations with care. We know that as much as we love exploring new places, we also love coming back to a place that feels like home. The kind of service and luxury you deserve after a long day hiking or exploring.

Fantastic local food

We know what you’re thinking: “I’m on a coach tour. How can I possibly enjoy good local food?” We hear you, and we’re here to tell you that it’s not only possible but totally delicious. Many of the Kirra tours include sumptuous evening meals as well as speciality dining experiences, but on the nights when dinner has not been included we encourage you to seek out and enjoy the great variety of bistros, cafes, and restaurants that offer indoor and al-fresco dining. After all, discovering new and exciting places to eat is a fun part of any travel experience!

We can’t wait to show you the sights.

Our New Zealand small group tours are the perfect way to get a taste of the country’s best sights, but they’re also great for something a little more adventurous. Holidays are a great time to try something new, but the best things in life often involve the unexpected. That’s why we believe it is important to have the right balance between a full, well-organised itinerary, and the freedom to do your own thing. On every coach tour holiday, there is plenty of time and flexibility for your own exploring or relaxing.

All our tours include the ‘must-see’ highlights of New Zealand plus many exclusive extras. With a fantastic mix of cultural and general sightseeing activities, our holidays offer excitement, leisure, and adventure in their various forms, and you can put them together however you like to end up with the experience you want! Our fully customisable Independent Tour packages let you create the perfect itinerary to suit you.

We visit both the north and south island on tour. We have tours specialising in either island or take a longer trip and see both islands on one adventure.

Our knowledgeable tour guide will teach you more about each area you visit in New Zealand on tour. Find out more about how Milford Sound become so perfectly formed, or why Rotorua smells like eggs. Our guide will give you the low down!

With a maximum of 24 people on the bus, this is a small group tour of New Zealand.

If you are travelling solo in New Zealand, this is the ideal tour as you will meet new people and travel as a group. Read more about travelling solo in NZ here: Tours for solo travel in New Zealand.

Travelling is about more than just the usual sightseeing. It’s about experiencing the unexpected, and we know that’s what makes it so exciting.

There’s nothing quite like travelling across New Zealand by a luxury coach, especially when you’re doing it with a group of like-minded travellers with our Kirra tour.

We’ve got something for everyone: from the adrenaline junkies to the history buffs and nature lovers. And if you’re looking for a special experience in New Zealand Kirra Tours can make it happen.

Haere Mai and Welcome to Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), the largest city in New Zealand and home to over 2 million people. The magic of Auckland is in it’s diversity from culture to the environment. There are over 44 volcanoes in the area and 2 harbours, which explains why Auckland is known locally as the ‘City of Sails’.

Take the afternoon or early evening to explore after you make your way to Neusto Hotel in central Auckland.

Accommodation: Auckland - 1 Night

Auckland

Within a stones throw of the Britomart & Harbour side entertainment and dining precinct - your stay in Auckland will be a memorable one. Fully equipped modern serviced one, two and three bedroom apartments are perfect for short or long term stays within Auckland City. Full Kitchen Facilities - Oven & stovetop, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, cuttlery and cooking utensils and Internal Laundry Facilities allow you the freedom to stay as if you had never left home. Newly refurbished hotel rooms are perfect for shorter stays.

Nesuto Stadium Apartments, Located in Auckland Central Business District.

Auckland to Rotorua

This morning we’ll be leaving Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and heading for the Rotorua region. Our first stop today is the Okere Falls. The falls lie on the Kaituna River which has cultural significance to the local iwi (tribes) in the area. Currently, the River is used for tourism, specifically white water rafting and sledging. We’ll stop by the Falls and see if we can spot some brave rafters going over the falls in their raft.

Next, we’ll continue on, skirting around the edge of Lake Rotorua to a lookout point where we’ll have a view of the infamous Mount Tarawera, once the home of the renowned pink and white terraces before a violent eruption destroyed them in 1886. This evening we’ll arrive in Rotorua township and check into our hotel, enjoy a delicious dinner together and then settle in for a luxurious night’s sleep at the Distinction Rotorua.

Meal: Breakfast

Rotorua Geothermal

Free Day Rotura

Known as the North Island’s geothermal hot spot and hub for all the very best adventure activities, Rotorua is definitely one of the best places to explore… even if your nostrils tell you otherwise! There is so much to see and experience here and you have a full free day to see as much as you like.

If you want to see some geothermal activity for free, we recommend taking a walk around Kuirau Park to see boiling mud pools and steaming lakes.

You can book a multitude of tours via your Tour Guide and with options such as white water rafting, ziplining through the trees, relaxing at the Polynesian Spa and taking a Gondola up to see the amazing Rotorua Skyline you truly are spoilt for choice.

Meals: Breakfast

Polynesian Spa

Ideally located at beautiful Pauanui Beach, nestled in the slopes of Mount Pauanui, the Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort is the perfect spot to enjoy the surrounding scenery and indulge in luxury. The on-site restaurant delivers high-quality local cuisine and stunning views that, next to the outdoor swimming pool, sauna, gym and tennis court, ensures a relaxing and tranquil experience. If you made enough pictures of the stunning view, the resort also offers bikes for hire which can be used to explore the beautiful surroundings. There is also an 18-hole golf course and wonderful fishing close by.

Grand Mercure Puka Park

Rotorua to Lake Aniwhenua to Taupo

This morning we venture off the beaten track to the shores of Lake Aniwhenua in Murupara. Kohutapu Lodge is owned by a local Maori family who is passionate, not only about showcasing their Maori tribal heritage but also about making a difference in the local area.

Murupara is an impoverished community that has been transformed for the better through tourism and commercial development. Through community-driven initiatives and a clear vision to provide more opportunities for the local youth, Kohutapu Lodge has paved the way for change in the area.

Begin the experience with a guided tour of the sacred Maori rock carvings before arriving at the Lodge to witness the preparation of ground cooked hangi and tasting it for yourself!

After lunch, we’ll depart for the lush, green Whirinaki rainforest for a guided tour along the Rongoa trail. Spot native endangered birds and ancient medicinal plants, and learn more about the history of the forest, including the myths and legends before enjoying a hot kawakawa tea in the forest and a final karakia.

This evening, our destination is Taupo. First, we’ll stop at the spectacular Huka Falls to see more than 22,000 litres of water per second thundering into the Waikato River. Then we’ll continue on to our hotel, the fabulous Hilton Taupo, a 19th-century building that combines Victorian charm with modern decor. The resort-style hotel houses a tennis court, a fitness centre and swimming pools.

Meals: Breakfast, Hangi Lunch + Dessert

Accommodation: Taupo - 1 Night

Taupo

Art Deco Napier

After a delicious breakfast, it’s time to leave Taupo and travel along the Napier-Taupo Highway to what is regarded as the Tuscany of the Southern Pacific.

The stunning Hawke’s Bay region boasts some of the best wineries, and a visit here would not be complete without a trip to Mission Estate Winery. New Zealand’s oldest winery and the birthplace of New Zealand Wine. You’ll sit down for lunch and enjoy an afternoon of delicious food and exceptional wines as you soak up the ambience and heritage of this historic building. Later, it’s an easy drive into the beautiful coastal town of Napier.

Napier is often referred to as a 1930’s film set known for its perfectly preserved Art Deco facades. You have the option to stroll along the tree-lined promenade this evening and sample some fresh seafood from one of the many restaurants.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Accommodation: Napier - 1 Night

Napier Art Deco Center

Styled to complement its remarkable location on the edge of the beautiful Hawke's Bay, Scenic Hotel Te Pania boasts design awards for its style and offers an unmatched level of service to leisure travellers with a high four star accommodation rating. Enjoy the central waterfront location and the extensive sea views that all rooms share. Te Pania is just a short stroll from Napier’s main art deco style street with many shops, cafes and restaurants.

Scenic Hotel Te Pania - Napier

Napier to Wellington

Today it’s time to leave the Art Deco capital and journey down to Wellington, our sparkling capital city, where modern business style blends with a cultured, bohemian spirit.

On the way, we’ll stop in Greytown, Wairarapa's oldest town, for a spot of lunch. A picturesque village with restored Victorian buildings, Greytown is a charming place to stop, refuel and do some boutique window shopping before we continue our journey to Wellington.

With a population of fewer than 200,000 people, there is no capital city on earth that marries relaxed and refined better than Wellington. The afternoon is free but we highly recommend a visit to our national museum Te Papa and your entrance fee is included. This evening is yours to explore Wellington.

Accommodation: Wellington - 1 Night

Wellington City

Wellington to Nelson

After breakfast this morning, you’ll take the Ferry to the South Island, don’t miss the spectacular views of the sunken valleys meeting the sea that form the Marlborough Sounds.

We’ll then head to Nelson arriving at our destination mid-afternoon, the coach will take you on a scenic drive along the seaside. This evening there’s plenty of time to relax, explore the area and the option to taste some of Nelson’s fine local beverages.

Accommodation: Nelson - 2 Nights

Interislander ferry

Cruise the Abel Tasman

Travel to the seaside resort town of Kaiteriteri and spend the morning cruising the stunning Abel Tasman National Park - a coastal paradise known for its golden sand beaches.

See the iconic Split Apple Rock and call into the most popular beaches along the coastline as you sail up to Totaranui and back. This afternoon we’ll take the scenic route and arrive back in Nelson mid-afternoon.

Meal: Breakfast and lunch

Abel Tasman National Park

Coastal Pacific train to Christchurch

This morning we’ll travel back to Picton and here you’ll jump on board the magnificent Coastal Pacific train and journey down to the capital of the South Island in luxury, soaking up the gorgeous scenery en-route.

I am a solo traveller thus to avoid being bored alone driving through to the south island and also to avoid over-spending on booking hotels for this entire 14 days, I found AcrossNZ offers 10 days south tour through Kirra Tours quite reasonable and good. The hotels they will put us up have fairly good reviews in Trip Advisor and Agoda. Though abberations do exist in the experiences from different people; but should be fine with one night stays.

I have seen many reviews about Kirra Tours here in Trip Advisor (though they are all dated 2007/2008). I would be glad to hear from anyone of you, if you all can provide your recent experiences if any with Kirra Tour. They seem to be group tour provider for quite a long time in NZ.

Thanks and Cheers!!

Thanks beanb41 for your views on Kirra Tour.

To the rep from Kirra Tours thanks for the update on where the company is at now. I was unaware that Kirra had three different gradesof holiday, it will be helpful going forward as we have had one or two complaints in past years about the quality of accomodation offered hence we can now query the level of service the customer booked

Thanks Kirra Tours for your comprehensive reply. I am sure many tourists like who wants to visit the beautiful country NZ and explore the country with Kirra Tours will be delighted to find the details you provided. I will explore the same with my local travel agent here and look forward for the best during my planned vacation in south island.
