Yoon Young (Jin Ki Joo) discovers her mother dead and is then struck by a car, waking up in the same time that Hae Jun traveled to. As is true for many time travelers, they become trapped instead of able to travel between times. When the two cross paths, they find that maybe their time traveling, and their lives, are actually linked to one another.

Instead of traveling to the past, Tunnel is a time travel K-drama that takes the audience to the future - in a manner of speaking. The present-day of the story is actually 1985 in which a string of murders are being investigated. When the detective (Choi Jin Hyuk) pursuing a lead runs after a suspect through a tunnel, he’s hit in the head and ends up 30 years in the future.

The murder mystery element of the series is inspired by a real string of serial killings in Korea, but the story is very much fictional. While the show presents itself as a murder mystery with a time-travel element, there’s also a romantic subplot and a family at the center of the story that makes it a drama that really shines. Incredibly popular outside of South Korea as well, Tunnel has been adapted for Thai television and an Indonesian remake is in development.

Able to travel back and forth between the past and the present, he’s able to see how his different decisions have big outcomes later in life. It’s a similar concept to something like Sliding Doors but with many small changes to help someone understand their path in life. The music truly helps set the stage in the series as well with the soundtrack being nominated at the Korea Drama Awards.

Times isn’t a traditional time travel K-drama in which one character is transported to another time period completely. He resolves to marry her in order to make sure, and they become truly linked as he falls in love.

In The Best Hit, 1993 K-pop idol Yoo Hyun-Jae (Yoon Shi-yoon) gets accidentally transported to 2017, discovers that he is presumed dead after he disappeared in 1994, and investigates why he traveled through time. He soon learns that he is able to teleport back and forth in time, and the more time he spends with Hee-Jin, the more he falls in love with her, as she does with him.

Life at home is not perfect, and neither is his work life. He lives a somewhat miserable life, from his perspective. Life for Joo-Hyuk changes, however, after he visits a toll booth and puts 1000 won in it. He loses control of his car as it drives on his own, and he wakes up in the past, back before he got married. He shortly learns after traveling back and forth in time that he can change it if he so desires. And that is what he does — he alters his path by making deliberate choices to end up where he wants to be and wakes up in the present time with a new wife, Hye-Won ( Kang Han-na ).

Familiar Wife is a K-drama that is heartfelt, focusing on the idea that if one could change their life willingly, would they ? Most time-traveling K-dramas start off with a funny introduction, where characters are confused or startled by the sudden change in atmosphere and era. However, Familiar Wife starts off rather dark, making the viewer feel uncomfortable or miserable due to the realism incorporated. But such is necessary in order to provide a meaningful K-drama, which is what Familiar Wife grows to be.

6 'Splash Splash Love' (2015)

Jang Dan-Bi ( Kim Seul-Gi ) is a high schooler preparing to take entrance exams, which will ultimately decide the fate of her future. The problem is, she is bad at math, and she doesn’t know what she wants for her future. When the day comes, Dan-Bi becomes too overwhelmed and runs off. She sits on a bench all by herself, praying for a different life, when suddenly she hears drums coming from a rain puddle. She examines it and falls in, finding herself in the Joseon period. There, she is hired by the King to train him in mathematics, among other things.

Splash Splash Love is a very fun show that has all the defining characteristics of K-drama , which means it's focused on the characters. Taking place in the Joseon period, the main characters of Splash Splash Love , Dan-Bi and Prince Lee Do (Yoon Doo-Joon), are a fun pair that play off each other very well! Viewers will appreciate the common tropes: a woman disguises herself as a man, the prince falls for the maiden, a jealous queen , and a quiet bodyguard. It’s short and sweet, and any fan of K-dramas will love this one.

5 'Rooftop Prince' (2012)

Crown Prince Lee Gak ( Park Yoochun ), from the Joseon era, wakes up in the middle of the night as he finds his wife, the Crown Princess ( Jeong Yu-Mi ), dead in the lake. Many assume that she tripped and fell into the pond, but Lee Gak knows – with the help of three special advisors – that she was murdered. While an investigation is underway, Rooftop Prince cuts to the present time, following Park-Ha ( Han Ji-Min ) as she travels back to Korea to meet with her blood father with whom she lost connection after her stepsister abandoned her and ignored her pleas for help. Then four Joseon men are then transported to the present time after being chased by masked assassins and jumping off a cliff. From there, Lee Gak and his crew learn to live in the modern world while trying to go back to the Joseon period.

Rooftop Prince is full of K-drama tropes that fans know and love. It deals with amnesia–attained by Park-Ha after an accident, and she finds herself unable to answer why she was separated from her family. Rooftop Prince also deals with evil, second-female leads, goofy scenarios, and gimmicky love triangles. One day, in an alternate reality of Korea, a young prince by the name of Lee Gon ( Lee Min-Ho ) watches his father be murdered by an Uncle, and he is next until a mysterious stranger saves him. Meanwhile, in present-day Korea, a detective by the name of Tae-Eul ( Kim Go-Eun ) investigates that same man – Lee Gon’s uncle – who shows up covered in blood. Years go by for Lee Gon, and he grows into a King who searches for the person who saved him. He travels to the parallel universe of present-day Korea through a portal, and he meets his savior, Tae-Eul.

Initially, the Netflix K-drama The King: Eternal Monarch might be a little confusing. It deals a lot with parallel universes, and the information can be overwhelming and confusing at first , considering this is one of the first times – if not the only time – that a K-drama explores a universe where modern-day Korea is still ruled under a monarchy. But the slow build-up is well worth the wait, as a romance is ignited between the two leads. It’s a K-drama with a unique twist that viewers will enjoy and appreciate.

Unlike most time-traveling K-dramas that focus on historical eras, Tunnel i s a K-drama that takes place in a fairly recent time period. Detective Gwang-Ho ( Choi Jin Hyuk ) is investigating a string of murders in 1985 involving young women, and upon chasing the suspect through a tunnel, Gwang-Ho loses sight of the perpetrator. He is then knocked out by getting hit in the head. Gwang-Ho then wakes up and discovers soon after that he is no longer in 1985, but rather, thirty years in the future.

Tunnel is a thriller K-Drama that differs from a lot of time-traveling shows. The romance is a subplot to the main plot and doesn’t exist for the most part. Rather, Tunnel focuses on familial love . The murder plot is an exciting bonus that will keep viewers and fans on their feet as they try to determine who the serial killer is and how Gwang-Ho will return to the time he belongs in.

2 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo' (2016)

Make-up artist Ha-Jin ( IU ) has just broken up with her boyfriend after catching him cheating on her with her best friend. Stuck in a slump, Ha-Jin sits out on a pier, drinking, when she sees a child drowning. She jumps in to save the child, and just as she swims to the surface after doing so, she is mysteriously pulled back down into the water. She then awakes in a hot water spring where several men are bathing. To her surprise, she finds out that she is in the Goryeo Dynasty, and the men she met were the Princes. She also eventually learns that she is no longer Ha-Jin but a woman named Hae-Soo who knows the princes well. With no way back home, Hae-Soo has to learn how to live in the Goryeo Dynasty and stay alive.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is another fun K-drama that plays around with the concept of body-switching as opposed to teleporting into a different era . It includes several male leads that the viewer will fall in love with and several love triangles that viewers will love. Kim Dong-wook will play a news anchor who travels to the past to dig deep into a series of murders, while Jin Ki-joo will portray an ordinary office worker who travels through time to prevent the wedding of her parents. The 16-episode drama is written by Baek So Yeon, helmed by Kang Soo Yeon, and set to premiere on May 1.

2. A Time Called You

A Time Called You  (2023) follows a woman who can’t seem to forget her boyfriend who died a year ago, so she travels back in time to 1998 and meets a male student who resembles her deceased boyfriend, starring Ahn Hyo-seop and Jeon Yeo-been. It is based on Taiwan’s television series,  Someday Or One Day  (2019-2020) by Huang Tien-jen. The screenplay is written by Choi Hyo-bi, helmed by Kim Jin-won, and will be released this year on Netflix

3. Marry My Husband

Marry My Husband  (2023) is a time slip Korean drama that is based on a web novel of the same name by Sung So Jak about a woman who was killed by her husband after witnessing him having an affair with her bestfriend. So she travels back 10 years into the past to seek revenge. Park Min-young, Lee Yi-kyung, and Na In-woo are in talks to lead the drama.

4. See You In My 19th Life

tvN’s  See You in My 19th Life  (2023) is a webtoon-based drama of the same name by Lee Hey that follows a woman with an extraordinary ability to recall her past lives. Her 18th life was cut short due to a tragic accident so she sets out to reconnect with a man he met in the past in her 19th life, starring Shin Hye-sun and Ahn Bo-hyun. The 12-episode series is written by Choi Young-lim, helmed by Lee Na Jung, and will also be available on Netflix.

5. Tale Of The Nine-Tailed 1938

Tale Of The Nine-Tailed 1938  (2023) is the second season of the action-fantasy series that tells the story of a gumiho who struggles to return to the present time after getting dragged back to a chaotic era in 1938, starring Lee Dong-wook, Kim So-yeon, Kim Bum, and Ryu Kyung-soo. The second season is written by Han Woo-ri, helmed by Kang Shin-hyo, and expected to be released in May 2023.

6. The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract

MBC’s  The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract  (2023) is based on a webtoon of the same name about the contractual marriage between a woman from Joseon and a bachelor in the 21st century. Lee Se-young will play Park Yeon-woo, a woman who loses her husband on the first night of their married life and suddenly finds herself traveling to the present time where she meets Kang Tae-ha, a celibate who looks exactly like her late husband, to be played by Bae In-hyuk. The drama is expected to be released in the second half of the year.

As time goes by, Park Jin Gyeom, son of Park Sun Young, is a successful detective in 2020. He then meets Yoon Tae Yi, a physics professor who specializes in quantum mechanics and looks exactly like his mother.

3. Again My Life

Kim Hee Woo originated as a public prosecutor thanks to his unremitting hard work. He is then assigned to investigate politicians suspected of corruption .

His investigation ends tragically because a mysterious man kills him. However, he later regains consciousness and discovers that he has traveled back in time to when he was still in college.

He also had to return to university and complete his academic journey again. Meanwhile, he tries to find the truth about what happened to him.

On his way, he meets Kim Hee Ah, a very bright young woman who is the youngest daughter of the wealthy family that owns the Cheonha business group. The series is releasing in 2022 with 16 episodes and is available on Viki.

4. Sisyphus: The Myth

Heo Im is an acupuncturist who, during the day, works at Haeminseo treating the lower-class citizens and secretly treats the upper class at night to earn money.

Heo Im is then chased by guards and accidentally, he time travels to modern-day Seoul. There he meets modern doctor Yeon Gyung who finds Heo Im strange.

Blossom Campus Ending Explained: Does New Korean BL Drama Have a Happy or Sad Ending?

Blossom Campus is a new South Korean BL drama, featuring Son Byeong-Hoon as Kim Min-Jae and Choi Dong-Ho as Yoon-Chan. The story revolves around two friends who slowly fall in love with each other.

Min-Jae is a transfer student majoring in music and working as a part-timer in the library. When he arrives at the university, he asks for directions to Yoon-Chan. After their first meeting, fate constantly brings them together. While Min-Jae tries to avoid him, Yoon-Chan pushes his luck and befriends Min-Jae.

While the two explore their friendship and true feelings, Min-Jae’s junior, Woo-Hyuk (Kim Yong-Sol), gets jealous. Despite confusion and heartbreaks, the Korean BL drama Blossom Campus ends on a happy note for the lead couple.

Blossom Campus episode 1 focuses on Min-Jae and Yoon-Chan’s budding friendship. While the latter feels a deeper connection from the beginning, Min-Jae is happy to have a friend in his life. Gradually, they become closer, and in episode 2, the two share their first kiss.

When Min-Jae asks Yoon-Chan why he kissed him, Yoon-Chan avoids the conversation. Despite this moment, the two continue to be good friends. They spend most of their days with each other. Their bond irks Woo-Hyuk, who asks Yoon-Chan what he and Min-Jae were talking about the other day. He refers to the time when the lead characters kissed. In episode 3, Yoon-Chan gets worried, wondering if the junior has seen the kiss. However, he brushes off his concerns and claims that such closeness is allowed in friendship.

Episode 4 begins with Yoon-Chan and Min-Jae behaving like a couple. Later, Min-Jae spends a day with Woo-Hyuk in order to work on an assignment. Woo-Hyuk is thrilled as he gets to follow his senior, whom he has feelings for.

Towards the end of episode 4, Yoon-Chan’s senior scolds him for being careless during his taekwondo practice. He also questions his relationship with Min-Jae. Yoon-Chan says they are just friends, which hurts Min-Jae, who listens to the entire conversation. Things get complicated between the two as Yoon-Chan fails to accept his true feelings. Eventually, Min-Jae’s professor helps Yoon-Chan explore his feelings.

Blossom Campus BL K-drama ending: Will the Korean BL drama be renewed for season 2?

Blossom Campus episode 5 features Yoon-Chan and Min-Jae growing apart. None of them gathers the courage to talk to each other. One day, Min-Jae falls ill, and Yoon-Chan arrives at his apartment to take care of him. Yoon-Chan gives Min-Jae a back hug, followed by them saying sorry to each other.

As they reconcile, Woo-Hyuk visits Min-Jae. After an awkward silence, Woo-Hyuk asks Yoon-Chan why he acts cute in front of Min-Jae. Yoon-Chan confesses that he likes Min-Jae. The latter follows Yoon-Chan outside and reveals that he is anxious. Min-Jae fears that if he likes someone, then that person will leave him. In response, Yoon-Chan says, “Min-Jae, I won’t be like that. Even if something happens, I won’t leave.” With promises to each other, the two share a passionate, long kiss in episode 6 (finale).

Furthermore, Yoon-Chan helps Min-Jae at a cafe where the latter works as a part-timer. The final episode focuses on the new couple’s sweet and intimate moments. In the final scene, the two goof around when they go out to buy something. Suddenly, Min-Jae stops and looks shocked to see someone familiar in front of him. He asks, “Why are you here?”

As the drama ends on a cliffhanger, there is a possibility of a second season. However, there has been no official confirmation yet. Meanwhile, Heavenly released all six episodes of Blossom Campus on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

‘In Our Day’ Review: Meditations on the Spice of Life

The Korean director Hong Sang-soo winds together the slenderest strands of two intersecting stories to make a tender film about simple pleasures.

In another world there’s a Hong Sang-soo Cinematic Universe, where a rabid fandom celebrates the one or two movies every year featuring a revolving door not of familiar superheroes but of poets, filmmakers and actors, each of them contending with questions of life and love rather than planetary threats. Those elements, of artists in quotidian scenarios, drinking soju and smoking amid everyday conversation, are present in many of the small humanist gems that make up this South Korean auteur’s filmography, and the same goes for his latest, “In Our Day.”

The film, as warm and wise as it is simple and languid, follows two separate parties (diptychs are another Hong trademark) across a single afternoon. One involves Sangwon (Kim Min-hee, Hong’s frequent collaborator and offscreen partner), an actress pondering retirement, as she spends the day with her friend and her younger cousin; the other involves Uiju (Ki Joo-bong), an old poet dispensing life lessons in his apartment to two university students, one of whom is filming him for a documentary.

The two story lines don’t cross paths, as they often do in Hong’s films; they are united only by the deployment of a culinary hack: mixing hot pepper paste into ramyun. His gochujang-inflected noodles provide a simple pleasure made all the more satisfying in recent days for Uiju, who, on doctor’s orders, is abstaining from drinking and smoking. But he can’t quite resist on either front, reflecting a sentiment from early in the film when Sangwon, offering up treats to a friend’s cat, says, “What’s the point of living, anyway? Eat your fill.”

It’s a glimmer of existential wisdom buried in the mundane, if you look at it the right way. Most of the film is made up of these moments. Isn’t life like that, too? To search for or expect more would be to court disappointment. “Don’t look for meaning. That’s cowardice,” Uiju tells a young pupil searching desperately for grand answers. “Just jump in the water. Don’t try knowing it all before jumping, like a coward.”

If ever there were a perfect movie, it’s this Amy Adams gem from Dune director Denis Villeneuve. The heartbeat of the film, Hushpuppy is a six-year-old who lives with her daddy in the Bathtub, the name given to the town they're forced to flee after a hurricane. Completely drenched in all the feels, this one requires tissues at the ready.

Kenneth Branagh, the master of adaptation who will soon release his third Hercule Poirot whodunit, took a break from detective work in 2021 to craft an incredibly personal drama about a boy growing up in Northern Ireland during the 1969 riots. Shot in beautiful black and white, his film not only captures the nostalgia of youth, but comes with a wistful Van Morrison soundtrack.

City of God

Set in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, in a favela known as City of God where there's no electricity, paved streets, or transportation, a kid named Rocket comes of age. Though seemingly destined for a life of crime, he hopes his passion for photography will present an off-ramp. This crime drama is intense and frenetic, but never exploitative, making it one of the best films of the 2000s.

Drive My Car

There is no pedal-to-the-metal action here. In fact, we're pretty sure the players in this highway-bound drama about a stage director and his chauffeur never even go over the speed limit. Instead, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi's Oscar-winning tale of love and loss is methodical, ruminative, and poignant, cruising the streets of Hiroshima and meandering through the stages of grief.

Céline Sciamma, whose essential-viewing films include Portrait of a Lady on Fire , Petite Maman , and this glorious drama, is proving to be not just one of cinema's best French directors, but a vital voice in all of film. One of her earlier works, Girlhood can be considered a coming-of-age film about a teen girl trying to fit it, but with Sciamma behind the lens, we get so much more.

Though every abortion story is unique, there is a through line: the complexity of personal choice and its impact. Both of which we've seen play out on the big screen with heightened resonance since the overturning of Roe v. Wade . One such story is that of Annie Ernau, a college student who sought an illegal abortion in 1960s France, knowing it could possibly jail her or kill her.

Little Women

Any adapted version of Louisa May Alcott's classic is time well spent, but for us, it's Greta Gerwig's 2019 adaptation. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, and so many more faces perfectly cast for a 19th-century period piece, the romantic drama unfolds through the March family and is a mighty take on the timeless sisterhood tale.

There's nothing Denzel does that we don't watch; Equalizer 3 ? Sure, why not? But in our honest opinion, Washington's embodiment of Malcolm X in Spike Lee's 1992 joint is tippety-tops. A monumental tour-de-force that sheds light on the civil rights icon's life and transformation from small-time gangster to assassinated leader, the film is a blaze of truth, empowerment, and peak-form Denzel.

The farmlands of Arkansas's Ozarks are alive with the American Dream in Lee Isaac Chung's Oscar-winning charmer. Starring Walking Dead and Beef favorite Steven Yeun, Chung's story, which pulls from his own life, follows the Yi family from California to Arkansas, where they hope to grow and sell Korean produce. Subtle, tender, rich in culture: Minari will grow roots in your heart.

One of 2023's best films, Celine Song's Past Lives is a marvel. Song shares an achingly personal story so specific to her, you'd think you couldn't relate. But guess again. A tapestry of interconnected destinies and missed love connections, the film stars Greta Lee as the mesmerizing Nora, an NYC playwright who confronts her past and tugs at every heartstring along the way.

Short Term 12

Before Brie Larson was zipping up Captain Marvel’s four-way stretch suit, she was starring opposite LaKeith Stanfield in this indie fave about a 20-something navigating the challenges of running a treatment facility in L.A. It comes from director Destin Daniel Cretton, and it’s a gold mine of talent, with Rami Malek, Kaitlyn Dever, and Stephanie Beatriz all giving superb early-career performances.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
