ULTIMATE Costco Travel Review [2024]: Who It Is & Isn’t For

* This article contains affiliate links, which help run this site at no extra cost to you.

TL:DR: After testing Costco Travel, we recommend it if you don’t like planning all of the details of your trip—Costco Travel makes it super simple to purchase a planned vacation package, even though it might not be the cheapest option. Here are the key takeaways from our Costco Travel review:

  • Costco Travel offers vacation packages to destinations worldwide, including resorts, cruises, theme parks, and guided tours.
  • Pricing can be 20-30% lower compared to other agencies (but you might be able to find cheaper bookings if you enjoy researching travel deals). Executive members get added value like credits and upgrades.
  • We had a positive experience booking a Costa Rica package but found extra fees, so make sure that you fully understand what’s included in your package—for example, are meals included in your resort stay?
  • You can purchase flights as part of a package, but not on their own. If problems arise with the flight, Costco directs you to the airlines (even if you have trip insurance).
  • Cancellations and refunds are available under specific circumstances. Travel insurance provides some protection.

I fell in love with Costco because of their famous $1.50 hotdog and soda combo. But these aren’t the only deals that they have.

When it comes to selling package deals, Costco knows how it’s done. You can’t find better deals than their Kirkland brand products, gas fill-ups, and travel packages!

That’s right; I said travel packages. Costco Travel is a leader in selling vacation packages available only to members.

Costco is different from your ordinary travel search engine. They offer bundles for your favorite theme parks and cruise lines. But is it worth the membership?

Keep reading to determine if the membership is worth springing for.

What is Costco Travel?

A screenshot of the Costco Travel website 'About' page.

Costco is a members-only wholesale company that opened its first warehouse in 1983. Their popularity snowballed from there.

Costco was the first company to reach $3 billion in sales in its first six years. In 2000, they branched out and created Costco Travel .

The funny thing is that to this day, many people still don’t know Costco also sells travel packages! These packages can include flights, hotels, cruises, cars, and more.

They work with an individual tour company to sell you the same travel packages as the tour companies but with added benefits.

How Does Costco Travel Work?

A screenshot of the Costco Travel website page with instructions on creating an account.

You’ll have to become a member to get a Costco Travel package. There are two levels of membership that both allow you to take advantage of these Costco Travel deals.

The basic “Gold Star” annual membership costs $60. With this level, you’ll be able to receive the unique Costco offers at their warehouses and online.

The “Executive” membership costs $120. As an executive member, you’ll enjoy all of the benefits of the Gold Star membership and extra perks such as:

  • Exclusive deals and benefits on Costco services
  • 2% cash back on Costco and Costco Travel purchases

Both membership levels are great deals and help you save money.

Search for a Travel Package

Start by clicking the travel service you’re looking for on the Costco Travel website. To find a vacation package from there, enter your destination, region, and dates.

You can adjust the dates in each city for your Costco Travel vacation packages. It’s possible to add flights, but many Costco members book flights separately.

There’s also no separate search engine for booking flights. You can get a better price and have more control over which flight you take by doing it yourself.

I suggest creating a Costco Travel account to manage your vacation packages, rental cars, and hotel rooms.

Costco Travel Review: My Experience With Using Costco Travel

A view over an man's shoulder as he types on a keyboard in front of a monitor displaying the Costco Travel website sitting on a white desk.

Costco Travel Vacation Packages

One of the biggest perks of these travel packages is the convenience of booking your vacation through Costco. I used Costco Travel on one of my recent trips to Costa Rica.

The package I purchased was around $6,000 for two weeks at a resort, which is a reasonable price.

While searching, you’ll notice that each of the vacation packages provides a list of benefits.

Some resorts give you breakfast for free and food credits per day. Others won’t include any food at all. Pay close attention–it’s frustrating when you expect everything to be paid, but it’s not.

Costco Travel doesn’t automatically include airport transportation either. When clicking through, you have to choose from multiple transportation options.

Executive members can use their 2% cashback reward on any vacation package.

Costco Flights

I like to book directly when purchasing a flight. However, Costco Travel airline tickets don’t exist for purchase separately. These flights always come as part of a package.

You can choose from a few options under the packages section that come with a flight: flight + hotel,  flight + hotel + car, and the total vacation package.

Even if you have trip insurance, that won’t help with flight issues. If a problem arises, they’ll send you to the airline instead.

Costco Hotels

When booking a hotel room through Costco Travel, you should know a few things.

If you’re looking for a hotel in certain cities, you’ll need a Costco membership to see the total price.

Some popular cities worldwide aren’t available on Costco Travel, so you’ll only see travel packages without hotels for those cities.

To book a hotel for New York City, for instance, you’ll have to book the hotel directly.

Costco Rental Cars

Costco Travel has an easy interface for booking a rental car. However, they show only a select few car rental companies.

When I was looking for car rentals in Italy, I got only four different car rental companies to choose from. Those were Alamo, AVIS, Budget, and Enterprise.

Car rentals can be expensive, so I suggest comparing prices with other companies before purchasing from Costco Travel.

Costco Travel Cruises

Costco Travel offers its Costco members the ability to purchase a cruise through their easy-to-use search engine. Most other travel booking sites don’t provide this feature.

You can choose the destination you want and even a specific cruise line. There are also options to look specifically for Alaskan cruises only.

Depending on how many days you choose for your cruise, several different options will appear. You’ll get the same Costco value when you’ve booked through Costco.

There will be many reviews for each route, and select cruises are up to 30% off. Below are the different cruise lines you can choose from (not including Alaska cruises):

  • Carnival
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Disney Cruises
  • Holland America Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Princess Cruises
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises
  • Royal Caribbean
  • Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

Even with Costco Travel’s alleged 30% savings, the price still seems the same as booking directly.

Others are getting certain benefits like a Costco gift card and onboard credit. It’s worth booking through Costo Travel if you get these perks.

Other Deals Through Costco Travel

Theme parks & speciality vacations.

If you look further into the Costco site, you’ll find that they offer even more vacation packages.

These range from Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood resort packages to an African safari. Costco Travel has it all!

These packages aren’t cheap but are some of the most sought-after bucket list trips. You can choose from many adventures if you want a family-friendly experience.

Going on an African safari has been on my list for many years. Costco Travel has full trips planned for you already. It’s absolutely amazing–like having your own travel agent.

These guided vacations might not have lower prices, but having your trip booked through Costco Travel is more straightforward than other travel sites.

A pair of hands type on a keyboard sitting on a white desk in front of a monitor displaying a Costco Travel website page about Disneyland Resort.

Unique Deals

Costco Travel works with other travel agencies to get travel deals for its members. Executive members enjoy extra perks like free upgrades, food/spa credits, and more.

Costco Travel also offers upgraded Kirkland Signature vacations. It’s the same brand you know and love but with travel. Costco Travel offers deals on these trips for up to 20% off.

Kirkland Signature has featured deals that last only a short time. You can scroll through pre-built vacation packages with set dates.

These deals often offer other perks and services, making Kirkland Signature deals impressive ways to kick back and relax.

Cash Back on Purchases

As an executive member, you can enjoy up to 2% cash back on purchases through Costco and Costco Travel.

There’s also a credit card called “Costco Anywhere Visa,” which gives you 3% cash back. Having their credit card is helpful if you know you’ll purchase from Costco Travel often.

Different Payment Options

When using Costco booking, you’ll be happy to hear there’s a flexible payment option. You’ll only have to pay a small percentage (in comparison) upfront.

If you’re using Costco Travel booking services, you can also choose a payment plan to spread it out. Who doesn’t love a good payment plan?

A computer monitor on a white desk displaying the Costco Travel website landing page.

Membership is Necessary

To get Costco Travel exclusive deals, you must be a member.

This downside might not be a big deal to Costco members who pay the membership solely for Costco Wholesale. And, considering what you get from it, the membership cost isn’t that steep.

The extra price you’ll pay for a travel agent will cost you more. Plus, you don’t get the other services that Costco offers.

Hidden Extra Expenses

When I chose my vacation package to Costa Rica, I noticed that these resorts didn’t always offer free food and beverages. Instead, some gave you “credits.”

If you don’t read closely, you might think the food and drinks are free (especially given the prices).

I saw this less often when purchasing my Costco Hawaii package, but you should still keep an eye out.

Costco Travel Cancellation & Exchange Policy

A screenshot of the Costco Travel website Cancellation & Exchange Policy page.

Canceling your vacation package is easy. You can get a refund if you cancel within 48 hours of departure. Each scenario is different, though.

Log into your Costco Travel account. Click ‘bookings,’ then ‘upcoming,’ and ‘cancel.’ There, you’ll see your upcoming trip and how much you’re eligible for in return.

Costco Travel insurance can help if any unforeseen circumstances arise.

FAQs About Costco Travel

A close-up, angled shot of a computer screen displaying the "Helpful Tips and FAQs" page on the Costco Travel website.

Is Costco Travel the same as Costco?

Costco owns Costco Travel, but they are different business sectors. Costco Wholesale is what most people know Costco for, and Costco Travel is strictly for travel.

Can Costco save you money on flights?

Costco won’t save you money on flights, but you can get many of the same flights as you usually can find on other websites.

Looking for cheap flights? Read our detailed reviews of Hopper , Skiplagged , Scott’s Cheap Flights (Going) , SnapTravel , Dollar Flight Club , and Momondo .

How far in advance should I book Costco Travel?

When booking a travel package through Costco Travel, purchasing it between three and six months in advance is best.

Do you get two percent back on Costco Travel?

Purchases through Costco Travel are eligible for 2% cashback. This is a massive perk of an executive membership . Members receive up to $1,000 cashback.

Do you have to be a Costco member to use Costco Travel?

You must be a Costco member to purchase vacation packages through Costco Travel. One of the downsides to Costco Travel is the entry barrier, but it’s worth the cost.

Conclusion: So, is Costco Travel worth it?

A view over an man's shoulder as he types on a keyboard in front of a monitor sitting on a white desk displaying the Costco Travel website.

Using Costco Travel discounts is a no-brainer if you’re already a Costco member. At the very least, it’s worth a search to see if they have any deals that you fancy.

Costco Travel is a good deal for those who love having someone plan everything for them and do it often.

Spending $6,000 a year on travel pays for the executive membership solely from the cash back.

Costco Travel isn’t great for budget travelers. It’s also not the best option for you if you don’t like a strict plan when traveling.

But, even so, there’s still some value in having Costco Travel car rentals.

A Costco membership alone is so valuable for most people that it’s worth factoring the travel perks into the equation.

Everything you need to know about Costco Travel — and why I love it for saving money

Madison Blancaflor

Costco isn't just the place where you can buy toilet paper in bulk, inexpensive gas, cheap hot dogs and gift cards. You can also book great trips via the company's online travel agency, Costco Travel.

I know, I know: At TPG, we're often staunchly against booking travel through third-party sites , as there can be tradeoffs versus booking directly. But in recent years, I've become a big fan of the travel deals I can find via Costco Travel.

When planning our annual beach trip back in 2022, my best friend found a few options for Mexican all-inclusive resorts on Costco Travel and shared the links with me. I promptly told her we'd probably be better off booking directly and brushed off the idea of booking through Costco — neither of us even had a membership at the time.

However, comparing the prices and benefits at a few of the resorts proved my initial reaction wrong.

I actually got a Costco membership to book the deal since the cost of the membership was less than what we'd save by booking through Costco. We saved around $300 on a three-night stay at TRS Coral near Cancun (one of TPG's best all-inclusive resorts in Cancun ), not including the free hydrotherapy spa circuit and the $241 Digital Costco Shop Card included in the package.

Our stay was fantastic, and I officially became a Costco Travel convert.

If you're curious about how to use Costco Travel to find deals, here's everything you need to know about Costco Travel — and why I love it for saving money on travel.

What is Costco Travel?

costco travel customer reviews

All Costco members have access to the Costco Travel booking platform, where you can find and book a wide range of travel — from vacation packages to hotels, cruises and rental cars. You can even book theme park vacation packages to Disney and Universal or specialty vacations such as an African safari.

Related: Costco cruise deals: How to save money booking travel at a warehouse club

Once you log in to Costco Travel, you can search for specific dates or destinations or browse through available deals and featured destinations. I personally love perusing the limited-time deals when I know I want to plan a getaway but don't have a specific destination in mind.

Trips booked through Costco Travel are often discounted and/or include perks and benefits you may not get by booking directly or through other booking portals. Usually, a trip booked through Costco Travel will also include a Digital Costco Shop Card (essentially a type of Costco gift card) of varying value.

What travel can you book through Costco Travel?

You can book hotels, cruises, rental cars and vacation packages through Costco Travel. Vacation packages range from hotel-only offers to all-encompassing packages that include airfare, hotel stays and rental cars. You can even build your own package.

costco travel customer reviews

However, one thing to note is that you can't book stand-alone flights via Costco Travel. There is an option to book flights through some vacation packages, but if you're only looking for airfare, you'll want to head to Google Flights to check out your options and book.

You can book Costco Travel offers both online and by phone.

Do you have to be a Costco member to use Costco Travel?

Yes. Costco Travel is an exclusive service for Costco members.

There are two personal membership levels: Gold Star and Executive. Gold Star costs $60 per year, while an Executive membership costs $120. The basic membership will give you access to all of Costco's services, including Costco Travel, while the Executive membership also comes with a 2% reward on all Costco (and Costco Travel) purchases.

I've found that the Costco Travel deals alone are worth paying the $60 Gold Star annual membership fee, even though I don't regularly use Costco for my grocery store runs.

Check sites like Groupon for discount Costco memberships, as you can sometimes save on that rate — or get an included gift card that helps offset the cost.

Is Costo Travel worth it?

Costco Travel has its pros and cons, but there are definitely times when it's worth it.

For example, let's look at a five-night stay in Maui in early April. At the time of writing, Costco is currently offering a hotel and rental car package for Hotel Wailea, a Relais & Chateaux affiliated property and one of TPG's favorite Maui hotels .

Here's one cost comparison breakdown of Costco Travel's deal versus booking directly:

costco travel customer reviews

Even without including the additional benefits, you're already saving more than $400 via the Costco deal. Add in the value you get from the card, daily breakfast and resort credit (which is more than $1,000 in value if you maximize all benefits), and you're looking at $1,442.45 in savings by booking through Costco Travel versus directly.

And since Hotel Wailea isn't a member of any major hotel loyalty program, booking through Costco Travel wouldn't mean missing out on elite night credits or other loyalty program benefits.

Here's another example — this time for a Universal Orlando theme park trip from June 4-6 for one adult and two children from Houston. The total cost when booking each part (hotel, tickets and airfare) individually came to $2,701.35, while booking it as a package via Costco saved just over $300.

costco travel customer reviews

That's a fair amount of savings you could use for some frozen butterbeer or even a new wand inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter .

When is Costco Travel not worth it?

Not every offer on Costco is worth booking.

For one, you won't necessarily find the same availability on Costco Travel. For example, flights booked through Costco may have some seats blocked off, and certain dates for hotel stays may be unavailable. Additionally, not all rental car companies are bookable through Costco Travel (such as Hertz*, which is my preferred rental car company due to the perks I get through my Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card ).

Plus, some hotel stays have a minimum stay requirement. If you're on the hunt for a long weekend getaway, you may not be able to take advantage of some Costco Travel deals.

costco travel customer reviews

Even when you do find availability, you should always price-check what you can find by booking directly or through your credit card travel portal and hotel programs.

After booking our fantastic stay at TRS Coral just north of Cancun through Costco, I looked at booking through Costco again in 2023 when planning our annual beach vacation.

While Costco had a deal available for the same resort, we happened to be booking when the resort chain was having a Mother's Day sale for anyone booking directly. We were able to try out a new TRS resort closer to Playa Del Carmen, TRS Yucatan; we saved more than $100 on an even nicer suite than Costco Travel offered by booking directly (even when considering the Digital Shop Card we would have gotten by booking with Costco).

Something else to consider when booking hotels through Costco Travel is loyalty program rewards and elite status. There are a lot of hotels available to book through Costco Travel that are part of major loyalty programs, from Hyatt Honors to Marriott Bonvoy to IHG One Rewards and more. But booking through Costco Travel — just like booking through most other third-party services such as Expedia — means you likely won't earn loyalty rewards, elite night credits or have any elite night benefits honored.

You'll also have to use Costco customer service if you run into any issues rather than going directly to the brand. This is especially important when considering booking a vacation package that includes flights, given the higher potential for delays or cancellations.

Why I love Costco Travel

I am typically a staunch proponent of booking directly, but Costco Travel is an exception. I've found that the benefits I can get by booking some trips via Costco outweigh the cons (some of which include having to go through Costco for any customer service help or occasionally losing out on elite night credits).

Digital Costco Shop Cards

My favorite thing about booking trips through Costco Travel is the Digital Costco Shop Card I get after booking. The card's value varies from trip to trip (generally depending on how expensive the package you book), but you can get hundreds of dollars back to use at Costco.

The Digital Costco Shop Cards can be used for Costco warehouse purchases (a game changer with grocery prices so high due to inflation), but you can also use them toward future Costco Travel bookings. And remember — Costco doesn't just carry bulk grocery items. You could use a Digital Costco Shop Card to buy a new flat-screen TV for movie nights and game days, a new outdoor patio setup ahead of summer or even Costco Pharmacy prescriptions.

I admittedly don't use Costco for groceries often (buying in bulk doesn't make a lot of sense for someone who lives alone), but I have used shop cards to help pay for Christmas presents and future Costco Travel trips. I've actually been looking into using my most recent Digital Costco Shop Card on a new pair of AirPods and a new TV mount for my living room.

Deals on non-points hotel stays and all-inclusive resorts

When I'm looking at booking a hotel stay at a brand like Hyatt or Marriott, I generally choose to book directly in order to earn elite night credits and points. However, when looking at properties not part of a major loyalty program, Costco Travel is often a go-to anytime I can find a deal.

Costco Travel has a nice deals section, and I usually look there first if I'm not sold on a specific destination for a getaway. While deals found on Costco generally have a narrow booking window, I've found that many offer a lot of flexibility for the actual trip dates.

A few examples of limited-time deals for January include Hotel Wailea from the example earlier in this guide, all-inclusive resorts in Mexico's Riviera Maya, and Disney and Universal theme park packages.

costco travel customer reviews

Simplifying group vacations

I'm often the travel planner in my friend group (which makes sense, considering what I do for a living), but not everyone is an avid points and miles user like myself. For group trips where we're splitting the cost of hotel rooms among multiple people, it often doesn't make sense to use points and miles to book.

Costco Travel vacation packages offer a way for all of us to save money, and it makes narrowing down potential destinations and hotels easier. Rather than everyone having to spend hours researching ideas and prices from across the internet — which might be my idea of a fun Wednesday night but isn't for some of my friends — I typically just send them to Costco Travel to see if any of the featured deals catch their eye.

Having reservation information for multiple aspects of a trip, such as a hotel and rental car package, makes sharing and saving the itineraries a breeze.

Bottom line

Whether or not you currently have a Costco membership, you shouldn't dismiss Costco Travel as just another online travel agency.

If you know where to look and are willing to price-check the deals you find, you can save a lot of money with Costco Travel deals. I've personally had a lot of success booking friends getaways to popular destinations like Mexico through Costco. Using the service has helped me save on other expenses with the Digital Costco Shop Card I've gotten with my bookings.

For me, the $60 annual membership fee to Costco has been more than worth it to utilize Costco Travel.

*Upon enrollment, accessible through the Capital One website or mobile app, eligible cardholders will remain at upgraded status level through Dec. 31, 2024. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g. at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. How To Use Costco Travel To Save Money

Costco Membership

Costco travel, price comparisons, vacation package included activities, costco travel cruise deals, searching and booking, costco theme parks and specialty vacations, final thoughts.

See our Advertising Policy for more about our partners, how we make money, and our rating methodology. Opinions and recommendations are ours alone.

When you hear “Costco,” chances are the first thing that comes to mind is the big-box warehouse, a gigantic market where you can get wholesale prices on groceries, cheap home goods, affordable gifts, clothing, and alcohol. Did you also know Costco has an in-house travel agency?

Costco Travel offers vacation packages, hotel rooms, cruises, and rental cars to Costco members.

By taking advantage of the same bulk-purchasing power that it uses in retail, Costco can secure group rates when putting together vacation packages and bundles.

In this post, we’ll go over everything you need to know about Costco Travel and whether or not it can save you money on your next vacation.

There are 2 levels of Costco membership, and you must be a member to use Costco Travel .

  • Gold Star: $60 per year
  • Executive: $120 per year

Costco Executive members receive 2% back annually on qualifying Costco purchases, including Costco Travel purchases, up to $1,000 per year. This 2% reward comes as a certificate that can be redeemed for most Costco in-store purchases.

If you spend at least $3,000 per year on Costco purchases, including Costco Travel purchases, you’ll earn enough through the 2% yearly reward to negate the extra cost of the Executive membership.

A Costco membership is required to book vacations through Costco Travel. Costco Executive members can earn 2% in rewards on qualifying Costco purchases, including Costco Travel.

Costco Travel is an online travel agency available to Costco members only. It offers vacation packages, hotels, cruises, rental cars, and theme park and specialty bookings . Interestingly, you can’t book a flight through Costco Travel unless it’s included in a vacation package.

You can access Costco Travel by selecting Travel on the Costco website or by visiting costcotravel.com .

Costco Travel

To view prices, you must be a Costco member, and you need to create a Costco Travel account, which is separate from your Costco.com account, before you can book anything. To do this, you just need your Costco membership number and an email address.

Create a Costco Travel account

Costco Vacation Packages

A Costco Travel vacation package includes a hotel stay with a flight and/or a rental car. Searching for a vacation package works like any other online travel agency you may be familiar with. First, you need to input your travel destination, number of travelers, dates, and departure city.

The search results list, which defaults to Costco recommendations first, is easily filtered and sorted to find exactly what you’re looking for.

The total package price is displayed along with any included extras, such as a Costco digital shop card.

Costco Travel vacation packages

After choosing a package, click on View Deals & Customize . You can see what’s included in the package and select different flights or choose an upgraded room. The cost of your package automatically adjusts based on your choices. Remember that the price and extras, such as the Costco shop card that comes with many travel packages, may change as you alter your options.

Upgrading hotel room on a Costco travel package

Once you finalize the details of your Costco Travel package, you can select whether you want just to pay a deposit or pay for the entire trip. Payments can be made with a Visa or Mastercard . American Express cards aren’t accepted.

While only Visa cards are accepted in Costco stores, you can pay for a Costco Travel package using a Visa or a Mastercard.

We wanted to see how Costco Travel vacation package prices stacked up, so we checked out a few options. These examples include a 7-night package for 2 people, including hotel accommodations and flights.

Costco Travel offered the best packages for the first 2 examples. Not only was the package price the lowest, but Costco’s packages also included airport transfers and Costco shop cards, making them an even sweeter deal.

However, the third package illustrates that Costco Travel isn’t always the best option. In this example, Costco Travel was the most expensive. However, it included a daily breakfast buffet and a walking food tour. The cheapest option was Expedia, but that package was completely nonrefundable, which may not be worth the savings for some travelers.

One thing to look out for when booking a vacation package through Costco Travel is that they sometimes include extras that you don’t really want . If you remove these extras, the price drops, but some packages require you to add an activity.

For example, this European vacation package included a walking food tour in the quoted price.

Included activities in a Costco Travel vacation package

After tour was removed, the price dropped by $582.44 ! That’s a huge price to pay for a walking tour, and it would have been easy to assume it was a part of the package when, in reality, it cost a lot extra.

Savings from removing included activity

The bad news is that some vacation packages don’t let you to opt out of an activity . In this example, there were 5 activity options available ranging in price from $582 to $1,590.

This can add a lot of unnecessary costs to a Costco Travel vacation package.

Costco Vacations travel packages include a hotel plus a flight and/or rental car. These packages often offer tremendous savings over booking through other websites or booking each element separately. However, Costco Travel won’t always offer the lowest price, so it’s good to shop around a bit before booking any vacation package.

Costco Hotels

Searching for a hotel through Costco Travel works just like any other online travel agency you may be familiar with. However, the options for booking a hotel without a vacation package are limited .

To begin, click on the Hotels tab on the Costco Travel website and then enter the city, dates, number of people, and the number of rooms.

Results appear on the next screen, with options to filter the list by a specific hotel, hotel chain, area, amenities, member reviews, and ratings. The results list can be sorted by price, but you only see prices if you enter your Costco number.

Costco Travel Hotels

Remember that when you book a hotel through Costco Travel, you aren’t eligible to earn hotel loyalty points, nor will the hotel recognize any elite status you have . If you’re loyal to a particular hotel chain, such as Hyatt , Hilton , or Marriott , it’s important to weigh any savings against the benefits and points you’d give up.

After selecting a hotel, you can choose a different room, and the price will adjust automatically.

Costco Travel hotel room options

Payment options and cancellation policies can vary based on the hotel and rate you choose, so be sure to read the fine print carefully before you book.

We priced out a couple of hotel stays to see if Costco Travel offered competitive pricing. We found examples of Costco’s price being both higher and lower than the hotel website’s price. You may be able to find a great deal, but it’s not guaranteed.

There are a limited number of hotels you can book through Costco Travel unless you’re booking a package. You may find there are no options even in popular cities and vacation spots, so it can be frustrating to book a stand-alone hotel through Costco Travel.

Costco Cruises

Like many online travel agencies, Costco offers deals, perks, and specials when booking cruises. Sometimes, these can be quite valuable, but as always, it pays to shop around.

If you know more or less what you want, it’s easy to search for cruises on Costco Travel. Just go to the home page, click the Cruises tab, and enter your destination, departure month, specific cruise line (if you have a preference), and duration.

Costco Travel Cruises

You can also select an option to search for Alaska cruise tours, which combines a cruise voyage and a guided land tour before or after the voyage.

The results page lists every matching available cruise, with options to filter and sort the results. Each result shows the available room types and any included extras, such as a Costco Cash Card (gift card), onboard credit, or discount.

The price listed in Costco Travel’s cruise search results is per person and doesn’t include taxes and fees.

One of the downsides of using Costco Travel to search for a cruise is that you can only search for 1 month at a time . While other cruise booking websites allow you to search by year or any combination of months, Costco Travel requires you to pick a specific month to travel.

When you find the right cruise, you can select your stateroom type, the number of people joining, and even the specific room location. You can also choose to add flights and pre- or post-cruise hotels to a package.

Some cruise lines offer their own credit card with cruise rewards, but a more general travel rewards card like The Platinum Card ® from American Express almost always offers a better value. For more information, check out our full guide to the best credit cards for booking cruises .

You can browse available deals, packages, and popular options if you aren’t set on a specific cruise, date, or region. You find these options by scrolling down on the Costco Travel cruise page, where you can explore by destination, category (such as last-minute cruises or luxury cruises), departure port, or cruise line.

Costco Travel cruise categories

We priced out cruises on Costco Travel and the cruise lines’ websites and found that the cost was usually lower with Costco Travel, especially considering they all came with Costco shop cards.

However, getting accurate pricing on a cruise can be tricky . For example, for the Norwegian cruise, the cost was higher on Norwegian’s website initially, but that’s because it included Free at Sea promotions. With those removed, the cost was the same. Booking through Costco came with a $70 shop card but didn’t give you the ability to add the Free at Sea promotions (which could be very valuable for some guests).

In our research, we’ve found that most cruise booking websites offer the same (or very similar) pricing. The difference is in the extras offered, like a Costco shop card, drink packages, or shipboard credit.

It’s always smart to price out a cruise on multiple websites, and Costco Travel could be a great place for Costco members to start.

Costco Car Rentals

Costco Travel also includes a stand-alone car rental booking feature in addition to letting you rent a car as part of a vacation package.

Unlike some other online travel agencies that offer just about everything under the sun, Costco sticks with 4 big car rental agencies: Alamo , Avis , Budget , and Enterprise.

If you would prefer to get your rental from another company like Hertz or Dollar , you should book directly or use a more inclusive portal like AmexTravel.com or Orbitz .

When renting a car, be sure to use a credit card that comes with car rental insurance . You’ll need to decline the rental company’s collision or loss damage waiver (CDW/LDW) for the credit card insurance to be active. Some of our favorite options, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred ® Card , include primary coverage.

To search for a rental car, input the pickup and drop-off locations, dates, and times, and then click Search .

Search results are shown in a grid, with the 4 companies as the columns and the various classes of cars available as the rows. The lowest prices for each type of car are shown in red , and the price includes taxes and fees. You can click on any price to see the terms and conditions for that rental.

Costco Travel car rental search results

We did some price comparisons using the metasearch engine Kayak , and we always found lower prices on rental cars through other websites .

That doesn’t mean that Costco will never have the best price, however. Car rental prices fluctuate, so it’s always best to price out your rental on multiple websites before booking.

Costco Travel also offers the ability to book select theme parks and specialty vacations .

  • Adventures by Disney
  • Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa
  • Brendan Vacations Ireland & Scotland
  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Disneyland (vacation packages)
  • Evan Evans Britain’s Finest Sightseeing Tours
  • Insight Vacations
  • Lion World Travel (African safaris)
  • Luxury Gold
  • Trafalgar Worldwide Guided Vacations
  • Walt Disney World (vacation packages)

To book a theme park or specialty vacation package through Costco Travel, you first choose the package type you’re looking for.

Costco Travel Specialty Vacation Packages

Then, you can see each package’s inclusions and details. Each vacation package includes different components, so it’s important to read the details carefully.

Pricing information isn’t displayed until all package components are selected, so it can be a bit tricky to search based on your vacation budget .

For Costco members , using the retailer’s travel service can present an opportunity to save some cash on an incredible vacation. Through negotiated rates with hotels, tour providers, and more, Costco can sometimes offer generous discounts or great added perks.

As always, make sure to compare prices and read all terms. While Costco may offer a price advantage for one service, another portal might win for something else, while direct booking may be the best option for yet another aspect of your travel.

Lastly, if you plan to book a vacation package through Costco and have a Gold Star membership, you might want to consider upgrading to an Executive Membership for an extra $60 a year. The extra 2% rewards could make the upgrade well worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is costco travel.

Costco Travel is a travel booking service exclusively for Costco members. It offers great deals on vacation packages, hotels, cruises, rental cars, and guided tours.

How does Costco Travel work?

The platform can offer competitive prices the same way it offers deals on retail products, and the same way that organizations like AAA can offer lower rates. By leveraging the size of its membership, Costco can ask travel service providers to offer lower prices for its members, driving business toward them in exchange.

Is Costco Travel a good deal?

That depends — it’s always smart to compare prices on your own to see. In some cases, Costco offers a better rate than other travel booking services or booking directly.

However, in other cases, Costco is more expensive or offers fewer options. For example, many hotels can’t be booked unless they are part of a package, and vacation packages won’t offer flights on some airlines, such as Southwest.

Can you cancel Costco Travel bookings?

Sometimes. Just like with any other travel service (or booking directly with a hotel or airline), each reservation can have different terms and conditions. Make sure to read the terms carefully every time you book to see if something can be canceled or refunded.

Can you book Costco Travel without a Costco membership?

No. You must sign up for a Costco membership ($60 to $120 per year) to book services through the Costco Travel portal.

Can I book on behalf of someone else?

Yes, as long as you hold a Costco membership. Just enter the other person’s name when prompted for traveler information.

How does Costco Travel work?

Can you use costco travel without a membership, is costco travel worth it, the downsides of costco travel, does costco travel offer travel insurance, the verdict: is costco travel a good deal.

The vacation packages featured by Costco Travel make a familiar, super-sized promise to Costco shoppers: You can save by prioritizing quality and buying in bulk. And for value-seeking travelers looking for a little bit of luxury, the wholesale giant delivers.

These vacation packages, which generally include posh accommodations, select meals and ground transportation, aren't available at bargain-barrel rates. But they're quick to book and competitively priced. For some, they might be the most cost-efficient ticket to a lavish getaway. Here’s everything you need to know about Costco Travel.

Costco Travel is a website that allows Costco members to purchase vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars. These vacation packages, which can include posh accommodations, select meals and ground transportation, aren't available at bargain-barrel rates. But they're easy to book and competitively priced. For some, they might be the most cost-efficient ticket to a lavish getaway.

To book one of these vacation packages, you need to provide a Costco membership number at checkout. Memberships start at $60 a year, plus tax. With the Gold Star Executive membership, which costs $120 a year, you'll get additional Costco Travel benefits and 2% back (up to $1,000 in annual rewards) on qualifying Costco, Costco.com and Costco Travel purchases.

With a vacation package booked through Costco Travel — which also offers a la carte booking services for hotels, theme parks, car rentals and cruises — you can visit destinations like Rome, Paris, Cancun and many others.

Costco Travel Vacation Package-Poole

Book all the reservations at once

On the Costco Travel website, it's possible to book a full itinerary — even including the car ride from the airport to your hotel — in just a few minutes. For Ginka Poole of Nashville, Tennessee, this was a big draw.

“For a vacation, it’s good to kind of turn your brain off for a while and not have to worry,” says Poole, a travel blogger and photographer. “You pick your destination, and there aren’t too many other choices you need to make.”

She used the service to purchase a trip to St. Lucia , a Caribbean island, with her husband. The package she bought, which cost about $6,000 for a weeklong stay, included ground transportation, the resort stay, breakfast every day, first-class flights and a credit for a tour.

The benefits and accommodations are top-notch

Say you booked a seven-day vacation package from San Francisco to London and Paris for two. For $4,900, you'd get these goodies:

Nonstop economy flights

Transportation to and from the airport

A superior queen room in a London hotel with a daily English breakfast, three-course dinner for two, champagne afternoon tea service and an appointment with the hotel concierge

A $400 tour credit in London

Standard premier railway tickets from London to Paris

A premium room in a Paris hotel with a daily breakfast buffet

To be sure, you could easily book a similar trip for less than $4,900 if you nixed some of those extras. But you'd be hard-pressed to find the same level of amenities and benefits at a lower price on other travel aggregators.

When booking through Costco Travel, you can get 3% cash back on your purchase when you pay with your Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi . If you don’t have that card, try using one that offers extra rewards for travel or flat-rate rewards.

Costco Travel Vacation Package-Kuttappan

Parita Kuttappan and her husband, Vishnu Kuttappan, visit the Haleakala Crater in Maui on a trip booked through Costco Travel. (Photo courtesy of Parita Kuttappan)

For Parita Kuttappan of Chicago — who booked a trip to Maui and Kauai for herself, her husband and her mother-in-law and father-in-law through Costco Travel — those fancy stays were worth the cost.

“Our accommodations were amazing — exactly what we thought we were going to be getting,” says Kuttappan, who founded the lifestyle blog My Inner Shakti. The resorts they stayed at were beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable, she notes.

Itineraries are somewhat customizable

Vacation packages on Costco Travel come with a basic itinerary, but you generally handle the details yourself. After selecting your dates and destination, you can add flights, upgrade your room or make other tweaks. Then, it's up to you to plan daily activities.

In Kauai, “We took a helicopter tour of the island, and that was something I will never forget,” Kuttappan says, noting that she booked the tour separately from her package. “It was absolutely breathtaking. We got to see the canyon there, and the different waterfalls and an aerial view of the entire island, which was absolutely amazing.”

Here's why you might not want to book a vacation package through Costco Travel.

Costco Travel is not cheap

Vacation packages can offer a great value, but don't expect clearance prices. While the website features select packages for less than $499 per person, multiday trips with airfare generally run well over $1,000 per person.

"I would say [it’s] a great deal if you’re looking for convenience and willing to spend a little bit extra,” Kuttappan says, who also used the service to book a trip to Italy with her husband.

If trimming costs is your priority, you might be better off booking cheaper accommodations and flights elsewhere.

Not all expenses are included

Vacation packages often include some meals and benefits, but they don’t cover everything.

Poole and her husband were surprised to find they spent an average of about $400 a day purchasing alcohol, lunch and dinner at the resort in St. Lucia, she says. (Breakfast came included in their package.) While online reviewers noted that the food at the resort was expensive, Poole says she didn’t realize how costly it was until she got the final bill for their stay.

» MORE: Travelers, save on meals with these tidbits

“I do wish there would have been a little more information either from reviewers or from Costco themselves saying, 'This is what you’re going to spend,'” she says. To avoid surprises like these, ask the property you’re staying at about food costs beforehand and track expenses during your stay.

You’ll generally go to major hotels and resorts

Most of the hotels and resorts listed on Costco Travel are relatively large, often boasting hundreds of rooms. These properties can get you easy access to coffee, food and a gym — but they might not take you very far off the beaten path.

“You’re going to get a big resort. You’re not going to get a nice boutique hotel,” Poole says.

You cannot purchase a travel insurance policy through Costco Travel. However, you can purchase a trip insurance policy through Costco’s partner Zurich Travel Insurance. There are many plans to choose from, including those that offer trip cancellation , trip interruption , emergency medical coverage , travel delay , lost luggage coverage and more.

If you have a travel credit card that offers complimentary trip insurance , use that card to buy a Costco Travel vacation package so that you receive coverage for your trip.

If you'd happily stay at a low-cost motel while traveling abroad if it meant saving money, booking a vacation package through Costco Travel just doesn't make sense. But for those who want to land a swanky hotel and ready-made itinerary for a reasonable price, it might be the fastest and most cost-effective option.

What Is Costco Travel?

Costco is a wholesale giant that first opened in 1976. Its best known for its incredible deals on furniture, cleaning products, and whole-roasted chicken.

What the average Joe doesn't realize is that since 2000 Costco has been offering the same bulk deals on hotels, flights, cruises, vacation packages, and car rentals.

On the Costco Travel website , you can easily book vacation packages. Costco vacation packages can include flights, car rentals, cruises, and all-inclusive vacations at a fraction of the cost.

Some customers have reported buying separate flights, although Costco Travel is known for offering incredible travel bundles and deals. But booking the rest of the trip with Costco Travel might be cheaper.

What Airlines Does Costco Travel Use for Their Trips?

Although you can't individually book flights through Costco Travel, its all-inclusive trips, and bundles often include airfare, unless you choose a bundle without airfare. Costco Travel has deals that use multiple airlines, such as:

  • Alaska Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Air New Zealand
  • Air Tahiti Nui
  • Air Transat
  • British Airways
  • Delta Airlines
  • Fiji Airways
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • United Airlines

Costco Travel also offers deals from the following car rental companies:

Popular Offering: Cruises

From my research, a lot of people enjoy booking cruises through the Costco Travel platform. If this sounds like you, you can expect to find cruises from the following lines:

  • Norwegian Cruise Lines
  • Royal Caribbean International
  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Uniworld Boutique River Cruises
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Holland America Line

When you browse cruise options with Costco Travel, you'll find it super easy, so I understand why people enjoy booking cruises here. You'll be able to search by cruise line, deals, destination, or even category.

Costco Travel's Cancellation Policy

Since Costco Travel works with many different airlines and travel partners, so the cancellation policy can vary.

For instance, depending on the airline and type of fare you purchase, you may need to pay change or cancellation fees if you're unable to keep your original plans.

Costco Travel's terms and conditions also mention that if you need to cancel your Costco vacations package, you'd likely pay a supplier fee. This also doesn't cover the flight portion, which would again depend on the airline.

What I Liked About Costco Travel

The exclusive deals.

Costco Travel deals are some of the best deals you can get. They are exclusive to Costco members, a great incentive if you're on the fence about purchasing a membership.

Costco offers fun and unique deals like their Kirkland Signature deals and Buyers Choice Vacations, which are only provided for a limited time.

Convenience

Booking through Costco Travel is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Its website lacks a little sparkle but is straightforward enough for anyone to use. Costco's help center and phone number are also at the top of the page!

Excellent Customer Service

Reviews of Costco Travel say its customer service agents are top-notch and always accessible by phone or email if you have an issue with your booking.

Flexible Payment Options

Who doesn't love the buy now, pay later mentality? With Costco Travel's flexible payment options, avoid paying high credit card interest rates.

costco travel website

What I Don't Like About Costco Travel

For members only.

Costco Travel deals are only for Costco Members, so they wouldn't be the best site to book through if you don't want a Costco membership.

Unlike other travel booking sites, you can't search for fights only. Instead, they come as part of a hotel or car rental package.

Is Costco Travel Worth It?

After doing all the research, I think Costco Travel deserves the hype!

Nowadays, it's hard to find a platform that's convenient and with an array of travel options. Yes, Costco travel can only be enjoyed by Costco members. But, if you think about it, it's definitely worth getting a Costco membership for the discounts you get in return!

A disadvantage is that you can't only book flights, you have to get it as a package, but hey! You're obviously booking a flight to a destination, and you might as well get a packaged deal with a hotel or a car rental.

You don't have to look elsewhere—Costco Travel will save money and time!

My Rating: 4.6/5

  • Exclusive deals
  • Convenience in booking
  • Excellent customer service
  • Flexible payment options
  • Annual membership
  • Cant book flights separately

Costco Travel Review: A Lesser Known Costco Membership Perk

You’re probably familiar with the Costco brand due to how prevalent they are in many places. Costco is a membership-only wholesale store that sells things such as electronics, furniture, appliances, and much more. You can buy bulk products at a steep discount and it has become one of the go-to stores for many people. People pay a yearly membership fee in order to enjoy these discounts at the Costco warehouses. Anyway, we’re going to be doing a Costco Travel review. Maybe you’ve heard of their travel program, but maybe you haven’t yet.

Costco does allow some non-members to shop at certain locations but that situation varies depending on where you live. What we’re going to be talking about today is the intriguing Costco Travel program. If you haven’t heard of this before, then it may seem a bit unusual that Costco offers a travel program at all. This is usually a wholesale store so travel booking may seem a bit outside of Costco’s wheelhouse.

Today we are going to do an in-depth Costco Travel review. You’ll be able to learn about what the program offers as well as whether or not it is worth your time. This is a travel program that has some interesting features and you’ll need to really dig into the particulars to see if it’s going to work well for your situation. Read on and you’ll be able to learn everything about this program.

costco travel review

Costco Travel Overview

Those who make use of the Costco Travel program are going to be able to book themselves luxury vacation packages. The idea behind this program is to save money by buying in bulk. That is the general philosophy of just about everything that Costco does. If you’re a Costco member, then you’ll be able to take advantage of this.

Costco Travel sells these vacation packages exclusively to Costco members. You also have to be a current member who is residing in the United States. This works a bit differently than a standard vacation package booking agency. Costco is actually going to be using their expertise and position to negotiate the best possible price on the market.

Trained travel professionals will be helping you to plan and book your vacation. It will allow you to choose from many of the most sought-after destinations in the world. There are cruises, fabulous hotels, and much more. Costco offers travel packages that will guarantee you a quality vacation experience.

More Than Just Travel Packages

With Costco Travel you’re able to book more than just vacation packages. You can also book a few things separately. The two main bookings are for hotels and car rentals. I’ve found that Costco Travel often has very competitive prices.

Booking Rental Cars through Costco Travel

At Travel Freedom , one of our favorite places to book car rentals is through Costco Travel. Their selection is great and they often have the most affordable pricing. I typically will check both [earnist_link ref=”hotwire-car-rental-book-now” id=”12888″]Hotwire[/earnist_link] and Costco Travel to get my comparison started.

Booking Hotels through Costco Travel

The hotel feature on Costco is lacking a bit. It seems that as of now, they only feature hotels within the Hyatt brand of hotels. It does although have very good prices on those hotels compared to the competition. Another option to compare when booking a hotel is [earnist_link ref=”hotels-com-book-now” id=”12826″]Hotels.com[/earnist_link].

Pros of Costco Travel

There are actually many benefits to making use of the Costco travel program. This is going to allow people to book travel in a very convenient and hassle-free way. If you like being able to take care of things quickly, then this way of booking travel is ideal. You’ll be able to enjoy simple 24/7 booking that is very streamlined.

Picking a location is going to be quite simple too. Costco Travel offers many great destinations that are all of the highest quality. For the most part, the offered packages are all going to be at big vacation resorts. The cruise packages are going to be booked with renowned cruise lines as well so you’ll be getting a proven travel experience that should meet your expectations.

To add to this, there are many great perks that you’ll be enjoying as part of the overall package. You should be able to receive free breakfasts, various tour credits, and Costco vouchers. This can all help you to stretch your money as far as possible. If you’re looking to book a luxury vacation without having to spend an abundance of money, then this is going to prove to be an ideal option.

You may even wind up receiving some nice perks such as convenient theme park tickets. If you’re visiting a location that is near an amusement park of some kind, these packages will often include free tickets to the park. If you were planning on going to the amusement park anyway, then this can save you some cash. It’s a nice little perk that will make the whole family happy.

If you pay with your Costco credit card, then things are going to be even better. You’ll be able to receive an additional discount that can help you to lower costs further. If you already have this credit card, then booking your travel through Costco Travel is an even more practical option.

One of the biggest positives about using Costco Travel is simply the cost-effective nature of everything. This is a good way to save yourself an ample amount of money. Travel packages such as this would likely be a lot more expensive when they’re booked through a traditional travel agency. Being able to go on a luxurious vacation without having to break the bank is a nice touch.

  • It is a very convenient way to book your travel.
  • Picking a location is easy.
  • All of the vacation packages offered will be with large and proven resorts or cruise lines.
  • You may receive special perks such as amusement park tickets.
  • Paying with Costco credit card allows you to receive a further discount.
  • This is a very cost-effective way to book a vacation.

Cons of Costco Travel

There are going to be some people that won’t find Costo Travel to be entirely appealing. One of the problems that you’ll encounter when booking travel through Costco is that the options are a bit limited. There are many good places that you can book vacations at but they’re all going to be large resorts or cruise lines. If you want to vacation at a smaller spot with a different aesthetic, then you may find the options to be lacking.

You’ll also be limited to one travel destination for the most part. Cruises may be a somewhat different experience due to the nature of going on a cruise. When you’re booking a vacation at a resort, you won’t have the option to book multiple destinations on the same trip. If you were hoping to see multiple places when visiting a certain country, this travel package plan may not be the best option for you.

Some users have also reported some issues with not being able to book certain activities ahead of time. For example, if you want to book a tour of the area, you may wind up having to wait until you’re actually there to do so. This may not be a huge deal but it can still be a bit of an inconvenience. It could be more of an issue if you’re traveling with many companions as you might have a hard time booking a spot on some tours.

Also, the fact that the tour packages being offered are so curated does limit the scope of what is available. A traditional travel agency is going to be able to offer you more options for places to visit. The trade-off is that you won’t be saving the same amount of money that you would if you booked a vacation through Costco. This is a good option as long as you go into things with the right expectations.

It’s also worth noting that Costco Travel only works with four different car rental companies. If you’re loyal to one of the other car rental companies, then this might not be ideal for you. You may also simply prefer another car rental company.

Finally, you should know that these packages do not include many extra expenses. Things such as alcohol purchases and dinners may come out of your own pocket. You need to make sure that you budget enough money to be able to have a good time while you’re at the resort.

  • Vacation packages are limited to large resorts and cruise lines.
  • You’re not able to book multiple destinations for your trip.
  • You might not be able to book certain tours before arriving.
  • The available vacation destinations are somewhat limited when compared to a traditional travel agency.
  • Costco Travel only works with four car rental companies.
  • Not all expenses are included in the vacation package.

No Need to Worry About Logistics

When you book your travel through Costco, you’re going to be able to book everything that you need in the same place. You won’t have to worry about renting a car once you get to your destination. Likewise, you won’t be buying your airfare separately. This is going to be a convenient way to buy the entire vacation package so that you won’t have to worry about a thing.

If you want to have the most convenient vacation experience, then this is going to be ideal. You won’t have to worry about handling the particulars. All you really need to do is pack for your trip and get ready to enjoy yourself. For vacationers who just want to unwind, this is going to be beneficial. It’s also great when it comes to allowing you to keep your costs low.

Somewhat Customizable Travel

Once you have booked your travel, you’ll be able to enjoy customizing your trip a little bit. The vacation package that you’ll be purchasing is going to have a basic itinerary that you can follow. It’s also possible to tweak little details to make them more to your liking. For instance, you can upgrade your room or try to change aspects of your flight if you wish to do so.

Being able to customize your travel experience a little bit can ensure that you’ll be happy with the vacation. The basic package that is being offered is likely to be sufficient for most people. It is possible to upgrade the flights to first class or to ensure that you’re booking a more luxurious room at the resort that you picked out. This isn’t a simple generic vacation package that has no wriggle room to make changes.

Also, once you arrive at your destination, it’ll be up to you to pick out what you want to do. You’ll be the one who is planning your activities. Most of the vacation packages will give you access to many things that you can choose to do. You might be able to take a tour of the area or you might even want to find a very adventurous activity such as a nature hike.

What you’ll want to do will depend on your personal tastes. This is your vacation and you’ll be able to determine how best to spend your time. Most large resorts will have plenty of on-site activities for you to participate in but you can also venture out into the nearby towns.

Alternatives to Costco Travel

The most logical alternative to Costco Travel is going to be booking a vacation with a traditional travel agency. Doing so is going to make it easier to book vacations just about anywhere in the world. Costco is going to have a somewhat limited scope in comparison to some of the large travel agencies out there. You should know that you’ll be able to customize your experience better at most travel agencies.

You’ll also be able to book a vacation that suits your tastes more perfectly. If you’d prefer to stay at smaller bed-and-breakfast accommodations rather than a resort, then you’ll be able to book something such as that at a normal travel agency. You won’t be limited to the resort experience or booking a cruise. If you like the idea of having more options on the table, then a travel agency is the way to go.

Our Costco Travel Review Final Thoughts

Depending on what you want, Costco Travel will either be a great experience or a bad one. If you’re looking to book a luxury vacation for a reasonable price, then this is going to be appealing. Costco Travel allows people to book vacation packages at the most competitive prices. It’s always going to give you a good deal and it’ll give you many top-tier vacation options to consider.

This isn’t going to be the most flexible experience, though. Sometimes it isn’t going to be the most cost-effective either. You could book a vacation where you stay at a smaller hotel and save yourself some money. It also might be more practical to pay with travel rewards points from your credit card or airline. This can make booking with another service a better way to go.

If you’d like to enjoy the most convenient way to book a nice vacation, then Costco Travel is a good bet. It just isn’t perfect for everything. This will give you an overall good experience but it isn’t going to be the only option that you should consider. Think about looking into various travel agencies so that you can weigh your options.

Costco Travel charged us twice for an unbooked cruise

This review is coming from an avid Costco shopper, and since I love Costco, I thought I would be receiving We tried booking a cruise on Costco Travel for our family, but kept receiving error messages just like another review here. We ended up booking elsewhere since it wouldn't go through. We then noticed later that we were charge twice on our credit card for the cruise from Costco that never went through on their website. We never received any confirmation email or receipt that anything went through with Costco. We only noticed the charges by checking our credit card charges online. My husband called Costco Travel and they said it was an error and it would be reversed within 10 business days by the cruise line. This was at the beginning of November 2023. Being that it is Costco, we though it would be taken care of....Here we are almost a month later, and Costco Travel owes us around $7k.... We called Costco they said they only see one request for us to be reimbursed for a cruise, even though we were charged twice. The manager then went on to tell my husband that the Cruise line would reimburse us directly eventually, and they would NOT follow up with the Cruise line on our behalf even though its their error not ours!? We asked for an email confirmation from Costco that it's being looked after and that we will receive our reimbursement for the amount owed. The Manager said she couldn't do that, and that we just have to wait.... she did not apologize and had NO empathy for our situation. Terrible Management. We made several calls to Costco, the Cruise line, and our credit card on this matter. We wasted many hours.

Company gives false info to sell product

We booked an upcoming trip to Las Vegas. Agent told us if pkg cost went down to call and get new price. As well they price match so keep an eye out. After about 3 weeks the pkg went down almost $300 and they wouldn't adjust it. Have called 3 times and every time someone's going to call /email and never does. Refuses to lower pkg price. Won't listen to our conversation with agent. Says only if Hotel cost goes down. Not sure how that's possible as when you book at no point does to break down cost between Hotel and Flights. Doesn't make sense. Would have waited to book without the assurance from Agent that the package price would be lowered. Will never use Costco Travel again!!

Ruined a memory

Hey Costco , my 30th birthday trip was ruined by a assistant manager named Samuel. It’s too bad, the trip of a lifetime was in the hands of someone who over talked, missed handled a 6,000$ trip without word or notification. My boyfriend booked our vacation on Dec 18 and it was cancelled by Costco travels assistant manager in member services names Samuel because he believed the transaction was fraudulent on Dec 21 He called my boyfriend 1 time and left a voicemail, but this was his only attempt. No email was sent , and there weren’t any multiple call attempts for a 6000$ trip. We called today to speak with a nice rep Nicole who did her best to assist the situation. Samuel did a automated refund of only 2500$ and told us he could not give us the full refund because he can’t get in contact with the hotel, and is unsure if the hotel would give us our money back. For some reason Samuel said it is up to the hotel to give us our money back though we book through Costco. Not only that Samuel instructed us to call his direct number instead of the recorded line. Why did Samuel do this. We’ve have been on the phone going back and forth since 10am. And still have not gotten the full refund. Samuel instead refunded us 400 more dollars for flights that were also purchased through Costco travel. There are more horrible details ,Samuel told us we could have another trip if we do another 1600$ deposit even though they already have 2500$ of our money Samuel basically is unwilling to give us a refund , because he made a mistake Costco can we please have our refund,

Don't use Costco Travel for your vacation trips

Costco Travel has decent prices for their travel package. However, once you book the trip it's a nightmare getting in touch with the agency. They have a complicated phone tree and not enough agents so the wait time to speak to a live person could take a minimum of 10 minutes. The other issue is you never speak to the same travel agent, so they waste more of your time reviewing the notes entered by others. While traveling internationally I could not get in touch with Costco via their "international line". According to the hotel reception clerk, I correctly dialed the international number. I attempted to call 12 times in two days to clarify and alter my travel package to reflect my needs. Since I could not get in touch with Costco until I returned to the US, the trip cost me an additional $620.00. Costco has refused to reimburse me or even offer any satisfactory compromise. Their excuse is, "You didn't call us during the trip". They told me "It's not our fault that your phone couldn't reach us". Actually, both my daughter and I tried to call Costco unsuccessfully. My daughter got through only after she downloaded an app. The other issue is I paid for transportation from the hotel to the airport which never showed up. After waiting approximately 1/2 hour for the transport, I hired a Taxi. That was another stressor that ended my vacation on a bad note. Costco did offer me a voucher to use at the store but did not reimburse the money via my credit card. If you are a Costco member, I recommend you look at Costco's packages and purchase the same from another online travel agent or agent you know.

No service provided

I filed a claim 7 weeks ago with COSTCO travel and have not heard a thing. We did not get picked up at our hotel and driven to the airport at the end of our trip. Had to spend $50 for a taxi. I am looking for a refund of $50 plus the amount I paid for the service I did not receive. Not a good way to end our vacation.

Avoid CostCo Travel

On Jan 11, 2023, I booked a reservation for a hotel room at the Royal Horseguards in London, UK. I received a confirmation from CostCo Travel, and I was assured that my reservation was secure. However, when I arrived at the hotel on May 18th, I was told that there was no record of my reservation. I showed the hotel clerk my confirmation information, but he said that it was not in the system. I was then told that there were no rooms available at the hotel. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated. I had been planning this trip for months, and I had already made arrangements for transportation and other activities. After a 30 minute wait, the hotel said that they could put us up in a lesser (smaller room with a Full size bed and no view). During the stay we never received the Complimentary bottle of wine. Also, the hotel charged my credit card for our stay. These charges were disputed and reversed on 5/30/23. In Paris, on May 24th, the day of our checkout and departure, the arranged car service failed to pick us up at our hotel. I called the car service with no response and even left a voice mail message - which was not returned. The staff at the hotel also attempted to contact the car service with no response. It was extremely frustrating as we then had to arrange for our own transportation to the airport. I have submitted our costs for this trip to the airport for reimbursement and after several weeks of waiting have not heard from CostCo Travel. They are the best example of what great customer service isn’t. During the trip we placed a number of telephone calls to CostCoTravel - each with an average wait time of over 20 minutes and the service level received was sadly inconsistent with the customer first CostCo reputation.

Don’t book with Costco Travel!

I have been a loyal Costco member for 12 years. I have always been pleased with the quality of their offering – until now. I used Costco Travel earlier this year and want to share that experience in hopes that it helps others. I booked an April trip to Paris and Amsterdam through Costco Travel. On the way to the airport, we began to get flight delay notices. By the time we got to the airport, the flight was delayed to the point that we would not make our connecting flight to Paris. We were supposed to leave Tuesday evening and arrive in Paris late Wednesday morning. Our only option was to take a flight to Chicago, spend the night, then fly to NYC, spend the night, and get to Paris on SATURDAY afternoon. We were scheduled to take the train to Amsterdam Sunday morning. We were not okay with missing the first leg of our vacation, so I spent 2 hours on the phone with Costco Travel trying to see if there was anything to be done. They were ZERO help. American Airlines was offering refunds, but because we didn’t book through the airline, they could not refund us. I called Costco back to tell them I was cancelling and was told the fee to cancel day of was $3000. I won’t go into how many phone calls and discussions we have had, but it has been 6 months since this happened, and we are still being told “we are waiting to see if the airline will refund the airfare”. The airline was willing to do the right thing, but Costco still has not. So my warning is this: Read all of the fine print before you sign up for a travel package with Costco and buy travel insurance. Otherwise, you will have no recourse if something goes wrong and will lose a lot of money like we did. I will definitely never book with Costco again.

Customer Service is non-existent. No reply from Costco after several attempts

We booked a 6 night stay through Costco travel in October 2022 for a stay 2/12/2023 - 2/18/2023 After 12 hours of travel and the first time traveling outside of the US with my daughters, we arrive to the hotel. They have no reservation for us that we have 100% prepaid through Costco. In fact, they had the reservation dates down for December 2022 instead of February 2023 and it shows we no showed on a prepaid reservation in December. No one at the hotel or Costco contacted us when we no showed on a prepaid reservation. I also emailed the hotel twice before we traveled and no one replied. CALL THE HOTEL IF YOU BOOKED THROUGH COSTCO. The hotel and Costco had ample time to realize the mistake, but did nothing. There was a lot of finger pointing between both Garza Blanca and Costco who was at fault here. Both of them had several opportunities to correct this prior to my trip and they did nothing. So this resulted in the room I paid for not being available. I had a crying 11 & 14 year old girls at the front desk while they tried to blame this on me. At no time did I get an apology from the hotel or Costco which still bothers me. Costco's Customer Service rep Annette said 'these things happen' when I was trying to get help while I was on my trip. I was paying out of pocket at this point because the hotel had no record of payment from Costco. I called after my trip, no assistance. I filed a claim request online, no response. I wrote a poor review about the hotel on Costco's website about the experience, they wouldn't post it. Costco will take your money, but as for any help when you are traveling or responding after your trip, good luck. I'll book direct with the hotel in the future.

We decided to book with Costco travel…

We decided to book with Costco travel for our trip to Disneyland. We booked ourselves and our 2 sons families because of the "bonus of $145.00 gift card (to be used in Disneyland) for each family. When we arrived we all tried to find where Costco travel put our gift card. We looked so hard to try to find our gift cards to no avail. When we got back home, I called Costco Travel and explained our situation. The customer service person said "we have had this complaint before". She explained where it was hiding. I asked her if could we still use it? She said "yes but only on the Disney online store". I looked at the site and decided I would get back to it when I caught up from our vacation. When I went back to it.....it was gone!!! Again I called Costco Travel and was told "Yes, they do disappear" The Costco rep never explained this to me. She gave me an email to explain our situation and they would get back to me. It's now been over two weeks and no word yet. I called Costco Travel and they said "Just keep waiting, they have a lot of these to settle". Wow really Costco Travel I believe you are deceiving people of their gift cards. Put a new heading for your gift cart right up front so everyone can find it while still at Disneyland. I'm sure many other people have had this problem and Costco does nothing to fix it. Poor practices and service.

20th Anniversary trip to Fiji

20th Anniversary trip to Fiji. Should be awesome booked with Costco - paid / got the email but no details and they say "you'll get them when you land in FIJI?" Flight to LAX then FIJI then another to the island and a boat trip to the private island.....without any real documents or seats or details / how many bags I asked.....unkown....type of ticket...unknown....I know dates / arrival time....but other than that nothing. & no real paperwork or confirmations outside the one email. I call FIJI airlines - nothing / call back to Costco / sorry. nothing they can do, I have to work it out with the airline who has issues with their internet platform and call center! I'm 2 weeks out and no details still. I still don't know how many bags I have already paid for! I only know it is not Business class as that was another 12 grand they said? $2k for the flight or 14k for business class? **I did get through today and to upgrade to bigger seats was $177 each for PLUS seats and I have 2 bags...why was that so hard? But I still have nothing on the rest of it...Makes me crazy and I've flown internationally several times and across the USA extensively. I can't imagine what it is like for those who have not. It has tried to take the sparkle out of my 20th but I'm focused on the 10 days on a private island. Their customer services is seriously lacking and they need to step that up in a serious way. If they fix my issue I will amend my review / I've called them 3 times about this.

worst costco rep ever

Good morning, I hope you can take a moment to let me explain how poorly my wife and I were treated recently by a rep at Costco travel. I realize that this might not be the correct avenue, but I simply could not find any contact info for Costco travel without calling, which has already proved a huge fail. We just returned from a cruise on Celebrity which we booked through Costco travel along with three other couples. Costco travel has always been a great way for us to book our trips. When we signed up for this cruise, we were all offered what was called I believe an Elevate program where we were supposed to receive the upgraded drink package along with extra on board spending. The other couples on our trip received this, but for whatever reason when we boarded we found out we did not. It would not have been such a huge deal except for the way I was treated by the reservation specialist, Christine, who was probably to worst, nastiest, and most unhelpful person I have ever dealt with. I called the service number from aboard ship. A young lady, Tina, tried all she could to help us but was not able to. After an exhausting hour she said she would transfer me to her supervisor. When Christine got on the line, she did not say Hello this is Christine, how can I help you. She simply said hello in a miserable voice. I had to explain to her the entire situation again, and her response was that they could not pull up the phone call we booked on since we booked over a year ago and they could not go back that long so she did not know what was said. She admitted that our friends got the upgrades, and we did not. I asked her if she thought that perhaps I TOLD THE BOOKING AGENT THAT WE DO NOT WANT THE FREE UPGRADES, and believe it or not her response was IT'S POSSIBLE. At that point I knew that we would get nowhere. I asked for her ID info so when I got back I could mention her in my complaint and she flat out refused to give out her contact info. We enjoyed our cruise, but there was a bit of a negative aspect with the way this lady dealt with us. I am hoping that there is a tape of this call for all to listen to on how to not treat a pretty good customer. thank you for listening.

Why Not to Use Costco Travel

We normally have very good things to say about Costco, but after our recent trip we planned with them….. we are extremely disappointed. We were planning our honeymoon and thought it was would be great to book our first trip to Europe through Costco as we were novice travelers. We were nervous about where to visit & which hotels to stay at, so we figured since Costco had sent multiple people on this trip that we would be all set. This was not the case….. Unfortunately, our trip started off on a bad note with our departing flight getting delayed several times. We unfortunately then missed our connecting flight to Scotland. We attempted to call Costco Travel to get assistance getting a new flight to Scotland, but Costco said they were unable to assist and deferred us to the airline. We ended up spending 3 hours on the phone with United Airlines who told us they were unable to get us to Scotland…. We took matters into our own hands & ended up booking a new departing flight through a different airline. We then had to take a $300 uber from the Philadelphia airport to Newark, NJ (and recheck our luggage) to then finally make it to Scotland. All of these expenses being additional to what we had already paid for the trip. Luckily, once we made it to Scotland, our hotel was accommodating and let us check in a day late. They were unable to give us a room voucher for the first date we missed because Costco had already been billed. When we tried to call Costco to see if we could add the missed night onto the end of our trip, they advised us to discuss this with the hotel, as they said they were unable to assist. Luckily, the hotel, the Chivel in Edinburgh, was extremely kind & accommodating as it was our honeymoon & allowed us to book a night at the end of our trip for a reduced rate. This, again, being another cost we had to endure. After our stay in Edinburgh, we got into our rental car and headed to our second destination, Dundee. While we had a beautiful ride to Dundee, the town itself was not anywhere anyone would want to stay on their honeymoon. It was full of graffiti with several homeless people on the corners. It had none of the charm or elegance Edinburgh had had. The hotel was kind of clean and very dark. Given the the run down town and dark hotel, we opted to leave Dundee and drive to St. Andrews. We did not feel safe being out in the town past dark with the types of people we were seeing out during the day. After we drove to St. Andrews, we found a lovely, clean, elegant hotel and decided to yet again, eat the cost of the new hotel. We were so frustrated with Costco at this point that we did not even want to try to waste our time on the phone with them because they hadn’t been able to help with any of of issues throughout the trip. We ended up spending $2,500 more than we anticipated secondary to delayed flights, transportation and new hotel rooms. To say we are frustrated would be an understatement. My husband and I will never use Costco Travel or recommend it to anyone, again. This trip would have been much more affordable and easier to deal with complications if we would have booked everything on our own.

I like Costco Travel for car rentals because of their competitive prices and additional driver for free. However, when I attempted to rebook an international reservation to select a larger vehicle, I was told that location had no vehicles for that date because they were probably sold out. I looked up the date and found that it was a National holiday (Bank Holiday) that we don't observe in the US. I called Costco and they said there would definitely be someone at the local Enterprise branch location even though they were closed. I called the branch office directly, and they said they were definitely closed and there would be no one at the branch to honor our reservation. I rebooked the vehicle for the following day with the branch (still using the Costco discount), and this resulted in the need for a change in accommodations which will cause difficulty and extra expense. Be careful if you are booking an international rental at a local branch location. Make sure it is not a national holiday for the country you are visiting. (Airport locations may stay open - I don't know.) Costco's computer system has now been updated to show no availability, but they did not notify us that our reservation was invalid. I believe it was God's intervention that had me attempt to upgrade the reservation and discover it was incorrect. Otherwise, we would have arrived with suitcases to a closed location. Also disappointed that Customer Service claimed falsely that the branch would definitely have someone available to assist with our reservation. They obviously did not check with Enterprise or the branch location.

We were left stranded at the airport in Rome. Costco was closed and the email they provided to us was useless. Our flight was only delayed by 20 minutes, the driver claimed he waited 90 minutes, which was untrue, I had the proof of when we arrived. The driver service and Costco were worthless. Don't travel with them, the airline they show on itinerary is t who you purchase seats from or contact. Back to a travel agent for sure!!

DO NOT USE COSTCO TRAVEL!!! I wish I could leave zero stars. By far the worst customer service i have ever had, I will never use them again and I will make sure that everyone i come in contact with learns how bad their service is. I should have headed the 1.8 stars on yelp before i booked with them. Absolutely HORRIBLE

Do NOT BOOK TRAVEL WITH COSTCO!!! do not!!! - first of all it is much cheaper if you book through orbits or Expedia. - second of all, you don't have to wait for business hours to open to adjust/fix your reservation ( ridiculous) - their travel system is pretty outdated and old. which makes a lot of mistakes with integration and booking correctly - refund process takes forever - people answering the phone calls are polite and lack customer service if there is an issue with reservation. ( not all of them) - don't give a crap if they loose you as a customer, you gone? there will be another one! that's the attitude. so please save your money, nerves and energ. book somewhere else, not Costco travel. never again!

We missed our flight by two minutes , the airline said we would need Costco to help get us on the next flight we waited in hold for 3 hours ended up buying new tickets through an other airline . Then Costco canceled our flight home as well so we had to re buy both original flights so we were 9out 1809$ which Costco said is normal and they was nothing they would be willing to do. We've been members for .20 years and and was the worst treatment from any company i have ever experienced. We will never sue them again and if do do not book any flights through them.

DO NOT USE COSTCO TRAVEL !!! They misrepresent their services, no flight booking support, know knowledge of the travel destinations. It's a bait and switch situation with them....DONT USE THEM !

Be warned - Do NOT Book with Costco Travel! Worst experience ever! Flights and connections were all too tight and super delayed (they had us stuck at London Heathrow for 6 hours, which caused us to cancel our plans on our first evening in Barcelona). Car Service was horrible, we had a No Show in Barcelona (Stuck at airport for an hour with all of our luggage + they told us to just take a taxi to our hotel). Also, Paris Car Service picked up 3 different parties going to 2 different hotels - very smelly, uncomfortable and inconvenient - we did not arrive at our hotel until almost 1AM! Dirty hotels + bed bug scare in NH Hotel Barcelona (couches in the lobby) and Melia Vendome Paris. It took 6-8 weeks for customer service to get back to me and say sorry we can't help you. Over it. I repeat, Do NOT Book with Costco Travel it took 3 months to speak to a supervisor and the best they can do is give up their commission, which seems like an arbitrary number provided by their supervisor - Costco Travel doing the absolute bare minimum. They rely on getting refunds from their vendors first and making profit off their customers rather than simply making things right with the customer! Costco Travel is a scam and truly only cares about their sales and profits. Unacceptable!

Waited on hold to speak to someone and they say they don't have any answers. They can sell me a cruise to Alaska but can't tell me if I can actually go or not.

I started using Costco travel 16 years ago, but for the last couple of years I have been very disappointed with their service. at least I am able to let them know how they are doing by this review.

Photo of John D.

Tried to book a trip today to Punta Cana, price went up later in day, called to ask if they would honor price and told no, fine tried to book online and was told to call. After 1 hours and 30 minutes on hold, they said it's their busy season and still couldn't help me. I am so surprised because usually everything g else Costco is top notch. Bad customer service in my opinion, won't try them again.

COSTCO Travel representatives are…

COSTCO Travel representatives are inexperienced and lack the requisite knowledge to plan trips! We called COSTCO to plan our trip to Fiji Tokoriki. The representative had no idea about the various ways to the island and that a Catamaran trip would have a five-hour airport wait. All she did was read chapter and verse about the rules and regulations, but not about the resort or how best to get there. We contacted COSTCO about the experience and how much we spent on reasonable alternative transportation without any sympathy. They told us it was too bad. They don't care about your experience or inconvenience. NEVER use these guys.

I'm really disappointed with Costco…

I'm really disappointed with Costco Travel. I don't want to give even one star. Their handling of the issue has left me frustrated. When I spoke to a supervisor, it was clear she needed better customer service skills. I know her name, but I am not going to mention it here. Within just three days of booking, the price shot up, and despite my polite inquiry about a possible adjustment, they refused. I even asked about using Costco gift cards, but that was a dead end too. Spending over $7,000 on this trip, the $200 difference might not seem huge, but who would be happy that the price went down and you're not going to get that money back within only 3 days of booking. Their poor handling of the situation has left me thoroughly dissatisfied with their customer service. It wasn't just about the $200 difference anymore; it was about their way of dealing with the customer. I won't be using Costco Travel again.

Didn’t get what we paid for

Costco sold us a package and we upgraded it to include exclusive amenities. When we got to the hotel, those amenities were being given away as a part of time share sales pitches. In addition and more importantly, the upgrades we paid for were not honored. We complained to the hotel and to Costco travel and neither rectified the situation. We spent $400 on upgrades that didn’t exist. No help, had to call several times to talk to anyone. Not the experience I expect from Costco. Funny enough, while we were having our case reviewed by Costco, they removed those amenities from the packages for the hotel. Pretty strong evidence that they knew there was a problem. Too bad they didn’t try to make it right with us.

We were charged $3,500 for booking a vacation to Cancun. My husband suffered a massive heart attack in November, hence trying to cancel this booking. I have tried multiple times calling their ridiculous 'Help Center!' 4 times I called them (866) 921-7925, waited 25-30 minutes each time. No one ever picked up! I will be calling their direct number (877) 849-2730 on Monday. If I can't get them directly, I will call CITI Bank, again, to get my refund. I cannot believe that this is happening. The worst, unconscionable, company customer service I have ever experienced with COSTCO. I cannot believe this. They have $3,500 of my hard-earned money and I cannot get it back. This is beyond unconscionable! Who is this really, Costco Travel? :(

Booked a trip from Sacramento to Florida with issues

Booked a trip from Sacramento to Florida with a two day hotel stay. Major issues with transportation from airport to hotel and hotel to cruise ship and then transportation to airport on return from cruise. Transport service was only advised of first transportation pick up an arrival airport. Now another call to Costco Travel to have them so their job. Lack of precision and follow through is not an endorsement of this service. Much time wasted on the phone. The origianal booking agent was very helpful, never the less, someone dropped the ball.

Absolutely shocking treatment from…

Absolutely shocking treatment from Costco travel in the UK!! They cancelled a booking which I made over 12 months ago for a cruise due to take place in Sept 2024. This was done without my request and they are disinterested in my complaint even though they have confirmed as per the phone transcript that my booking should never have been cancelled. It is not an option to rebook as there is not a comparable cabin available. I would highly recommend booking with another company!

Poor customer service

Very poor experience. They dont allow hotel changes or any changes online and then when call customer service, expect at least 1 hour wait, just to be told that computers are down, call back later again. There is no call back feature. once booked, expect surprises with the ground transportation, with obviously no number to call again.

Hotel Had No Record of Reservation

We got the "New York City: Your Way Hotel and Airfare Package," which includes air travel, hotel stay and airport/hotel ground transportation. Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel had no record of our room reservation when we arrived. Thankfully, the clerk at the desk gave us an upgraded room, since that was all that was available. I had been sure to download the Alaska Airlines app and made sure that my Costco booking was in their system and we were able to select seats through the Alaska app. I also confirmed the New York ground transportation, getting to talk directly with the drivers. However, I should have called the hotel in New York to confirm that the registration was in their system and avoid being confronted with possibly having to scramble for alternate accommodations in a busy area. But someone buying a travel package should not have to do that much footwork of confirming reservations which each individual vendor. Thank goodness that clerk at the Sheraton got us a room!

RENTAL CAR DISASTER

Had multiple problems with rental car rented through Costco Travel. Car was mechanically unsafe and required a jump start and an exchange for another vehicle. After calling Budget CS who instructed me to wait for road service that THEY ordered, Budget charged me for the road service. Reported to Costco Travel and it took THREE MONTHS for them to contact me regarding my complaint. Although I've rented cars previously through Costco Travel, I never had an issue. Not a good feeling to know they don't respond in a timely manner.

Terrible car rental

Terrible car rental. Enterprise Rentals did not have the booked 9 seater ready although I had booked it two months in advance. Waited 1hour for them to hire from an alternative source. For a start booked an automatic due to an operation on my leg. provided a manual drive. Upon reaching my destination checked the paperwork only to find out the vehicle provided was a different registration number. Rang Enterprise out of hours. Assured I was insured to drive the given vehicle to be confirmed the next morning. No one had the curtesy to ring. Booked this vehicle for my daughter’s wedding. Needless to say a very stressful experience and service from Costco Travel and Enterprise their partners in crime. 😒

I tried to book a cruise on Costco Travel but kept receiving error messages that the booking could not be completed. However, I later found out (on my own) that my credit was charged 5 times for this trip. Called Costco Travel multiple times and resolved the issue after more than 3 hours on the phone. I'm still waiting for 5K to be refunded back to my card.

Thank you - Refuned car hire extra costs

We booked and paid for a hire car through Costco Travel to be collected at Malaga Airport but when we went to collect the car, we were told that we had to pay another 751 euros for CDW, breakdowns, windscreen cover etc. etc. I questioned this because I already spoken to Costco about any extra charges and there were none. However, Budget Car Hire would not release the car so we had to pay up! Om my return to the UK I took the matter up with Costco Travel whom at first were rather reticent but said they would look into the matter, after a few weeks I was refunded the extra payment by the car hire company. Many thanks.

Terrible website

I called costco travel to help me find the cheapest date possible within a specific month. I was told they cannot do that and I have to use the website. Which meant I would have to go through everyday of the month and perform a search to find which day would be the cheapest. Costco travel needs to take a page from iTravel2000, they have a "best price finder", eliminating the need to go through everyday. Also, in Canada, iTravel2000 seems to be cheaper.

Big issue with refund on Costco travel

We booked Mexico package trip through Costco travel. It is a package trip including airfare and hotel. On the day of trip Alaska airline canceled the flight due to weather issues somewhere else. The next flight was not available for 4 more days. So basically the package deal was canceled by airline by not having a flight. Costco only refunded me flight payment , the hotel payment is still not promised, it’s in thousands dollars of payment. This is ridiculous and unacceptable behavior from Costco. Please refund my money asap.

Cruise Booking Southeast Asia

I was booking without any luck on the Celebrity Website and then found cabins on costcotravel that I could not find on celebrity but could only book one room and the second one disappeared. I called their help line and an agent by the name of Bailey was amazing. He stayed on the line for hours fixing all my name entry mistakes, then found us a better priced veranda and got us the drink package, gratuity and wifi included at no charge. His service, attention to detail and dedication to getting his clients the best value was amazing. We are going with my inlaws so he understood having a suite on the same level but far enough so I have my sanity! (LOL) I tried to contact costco travel in Canada but they have no email contact where I could acknowledge this agent going out of his way to make things perfect for us. I was surprised that Costco Agents don't get to travel using the TA discounts. They really should have that right as most other travel agents do. FAM trips are the best way to enable the agent to do a better job.

Ruined our Tahiti vacation

Ruined our Tahiti vacation. Due to a delay by Delta Airlines, we missed our connection to Tahiti. Costco Travel gave us the option of taking a later flight though Tahiti Air wanted to charge us an additional $2,000 due to "an increase in ticket prices" even though that flight had only 80% capacity. Also, due to getting in late, they wanted to charge us an additional $400 to stay in a hotel room once we arrived. At this point Costco gave us an option of canceling or throwing good money after bad. We chose to cancel and have had nothing but problems trying to recover our money. Costco Travel is the worst Travel experience we have ever had and will never use them again. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Buyer Beware!

Should You Buy Your Vacation or Honeymoon From BJ's, Costco, or Sam's Club?

These warehouse clubs may not be the first place you think of to buy travel, but they can offer big savings compared with booking directly with a hotel or car rental company

Illustration of 2 people with luggage in front of Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's boxes with travel items inside

At a time of high fuel prices and skyrocketing inflation , the savings BJ’s, Costco, and Sam’s Club offer on gasoline , groceries, and other purchases may be especially appealing. But many people may not realize that they can also find great deals on travel at warehouse clubs along with their rotisserie chickens and 12-packs of paper towels.

And the benefits of buying travel from warehouse clubs aren’t limited to savings. In a December 2021 nationally representative CR survey of 2,073 U.S. adults (PDF), far fewer people reported booking travel through a big box store in the past three years (9 percent) than reported using a travel booking website like Expedia or Travelocity (42 percent). But when we asked people who had used each kind of service how they felt about it, big box stores had about twice as high a percentage saying the value and customer service were "excellent" compared with travel booking websites.

costco travel customer reviews

To find out how the stores compare with one another in terms of offerings and savings, we recently priced out a handful of car rentals, hotel bookings, and vacation packages. (BJ’s and Costco both also sell cruises, but we did not evaluate cruise offerings for this article.)

All of the warehouse clubs offered savings over booking directly in certain cases, but some of the clubs were clearly better than others, depending on the type of travel being purchased. (Note that hotel, air, and rental car prices change quickly and frequently. The prices and packages we found are a snapshot in time and may no longer be available.)

Rental Cars

According to CR’s December 2021 survey, rental cars were the most common travel purchase made through big box stores, with nearly half of Americans who had booked travel through one saying they had rented a car—compared with just one-third of those who booked anything through a travel booking website.

To get an idea of the savings warehouse clubs might offer on car rentals, we first searched for the cheapest rental offered by each warehouse club for a given location and time period and then compared that price with the lowest one offered when booking the same vehicle type at the same location and for the same time period directly with the car rental company.

All of the warehouse clubs offer cars from a variety of rental companies. Based on our experience, warehouse clubs do sometimes offer savings over booking directly and frequently offer prices that match the lowest offered by the rental car company’s website. But even when a warehouse club does not offer a lower rate, it may offer more generous terms than booking directly with a car rental company. For example, warehouse clubs may have more lenient cancellation policies than those offered when booking directly with a car rental company and the clubs may also not require advanced payment when rental companies do. (As with any travel purchase, always read the fine print before booking to avoid surprise charges.)

Scenario #1

An eight-day rental of an intermediate car (a Toyota Corolla or similar) from Miami International Airport (returning to the same location) with unlimited miles.

costco travel customer reviews

Scenario #2

A 7-day rental of an intermediate car (a Toyota Corolla or similar) from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (returning to the same location), with unlimited miles.

Hotels and Travel Packages

Travel packages offer the convenience of one-stop-shopping for the major components of many vacations: air, hotel, and rental car. When we compared the prices warehouse clubs offered when bundling some or all of these elements, we found that you can save significantly compared with booking directly with the hotels, airlines, and rental car companies. We also discovered savings when we tried booking only a hotel.

A Luxury Holiday in Hawaii

The details: Seven nights in an ocean view room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea for two adults, with full-sized rental car and round-trip economy air from a New York City-area airport.

Booking directly Total: $23,741

The Four Seasons hotel site quoted a rate of $21,658, including taxes and fees. Alamo quoted a rate of $881, including taxes and fees. Economy class tickets on United from Newark to Maui for two (one stopover outbound and a direct return) cost $1,202, including taxes and fees ($601 per person).

Buying From BJ’s

Total: $23,425 (from JFK, returning to Newark) Savings over booking directly: $316 (plus a $1,000 in-store credit)

BJ’s initial package offered a different room with no ocean view, but the same ocean view room was $529 extra. Free cancellation insurance was available for a fee. There were round-trip flight options to and from JFK and LaGuardia, but not Newark. To choose the same Newark flight Costco offered was an additional $1,836 per person. The rental car (through Dollar) added up to another $6 per day. As a perk, BJ’s gave a 5 percent gift card on the total cost, which in this case comes out to roughly $1,000 to use in the store.

Buying From Costco

Total: $16,056 (for air, hotel, and rental car) Savings over booking directly: $7,684 (plus a $961 gift card)

Costco presented this in a nicely bundled package, with a flight from Newark to Maui via Chicago on the way there; nonstop on the way back. The car through Alamo included unlimited mileage and a second named driver. As a perk, Costco threw in a $961 store gift card.

Buying From Sam’s Club

Total: $23,705 (for hotel and rental car); $24,907 (including separately purchased airfare) Savings over booking directly: $0

Sam’s charged $22,660 for the room. The car was through Dollar ($1,045) with limited mileage and free cancellation. Sam’s does not offer flight booking. When we added the $1,202 cost of the flight, this option cost $1,166 more than booking directl y.

A Luxury Hotel in London

The details: Four nights in a superior queen room at the Savoy in London for two adults.

Booking directly Total: $4,087

The best price we found on the Savoy website was $ 4,087 , after converting from GBP, with penalty-free cancellation until 24 hours before arrival.

Buying From BJ’s Total: $3,129 Savings over booking directly: $958

BJ’s also offered considerable savings, though not as much as Sam’s. The rate is also fully refundable until three days before arrival

Buying From Costco Total: $4,306 Savings over booking directly: $0

The price is actually $219 more than booking directly with the hotel, though it includes round-trip private car transfers between London Heathrow airport and the hotel, and a $400 credit toward excursions with Golden Tours, which can be applied to anything from a hop-on, hop-off bus around London to a visit to Stonehenge. So, you could end up saving, depending on whether or not you would purchase private transfers and a tour or two anyway.

Buying From Sam’s Club Total: $2,868 Savings over booking directly: $1,219

Sam’s offered a deeply discounted room rate and the stay was fully refundable until three days before arrival.

A Midlevel Honeymoon Package in the Bahamas

The details: Seven nights at the Royal at Atlantis on Paradise Island in a premium double queen terrace view room, departing from Chicago.

Booking directly Total: $4,149

The Atlantis website offered a rate of $2,698 for the room alone (no airport transfers included). Adding economy class main cabin flights on American Airlines with a layover in each direction brought the total to $4,149.

Buying From BJ’s Total: $4,063 Savings over booking directly: $86

BJ’s first showed a rate of $3,844, but that price included a return flight of just over 12 hours with a nearly 4-hour layover in Panama City. Changing to the same, more convenient, American Airlines flights with a main cabin fare we used for all of these scenarios raised the price to $4,063. BJ’s offered a private van transfer to and from the airport in the Bahamas for an additional $120, which would bring the total to $4,183. Because this package cost $69 more than Costco’s when transfers were factored in, we deemed it less of a value.

Buying From Costco Total: $4,114 Savings over booking directly: $35

The package on the Costco website included private car transfers to and from the airport in the Bahamas and the same American Airlines flights we used to price booking directly. The included airport transfers mean you would likely save much more compared with booking directly, unless you found a way to get to and from the airport at no charge.

Buying From Sam’s Club Total: $4,149 Savings over booking directly: $0

Sam’s offered the room for $2,698, identical to booking directly. Sam’s does not offer flights. Separately booking the same American Airlines flight itinerary we used for the other itineraries added $1,451 to the price, for a total of $4,149.

How the Warehouse Clubs Compare

While you can find travel savings at all three stores that will easily cover the cost of joining (typically $45 to $60 for a basic membership), each store excels in different areas. Here are the pros, cons, and extra perks you can find.

BJ’s BJ’s offers a vast selection of hotel and flight options and is best for savvy or flexible travelers who are willing to scour the multitude of options for the best value and most convenience. If savings is a priority over convenience, BJ’s sometimes has the advantage.

Pros: We found that the BJ’s travel site was the easiest to navigate and had the nicest interface, with plenty of useful filters to help you find what you want. In terms of value, BJ’s sits right in the middle. It’s rarely the cheapest, but it may offer fully refundable options when other sites do not. BJ’s offers 5 percent cash back on “qualifying” travel bookings in the form of a store e-gift card. (The company did not respond to repeated requests for further information on this program, including specifically what travel bookings qualify.) According to its website, BJ’s offers a 110 percent Best Price Guarantee on vacation and cruise bookings within 48 hours of purchase. You must meet several conditions for the guarantee to apply, so read the fine print carefully.

Cons: Sometimes the cheapest option is completely impractical, like the one-stop, 18-hour journey from Miami to Aruba the site offered us. To avoid a nightmare itinerary like that, you need to pay close attention to search results.

Costco Costco is a good choice for those who want a one-stop shop for ready-made trips to popular destinations like Hawaii, the South Pacific, Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. It wasn’t always the cheapest (though it did offer thousands of dollars of savings in one instance), but it adds on a lot of extra perks, like airport transportation, room upgrades, or a store credit. Sometimes these justify a higher rate compared with its competition, but sometimes they don’t.

Pros: Costco has the most price transparency of the warehouse clubs we evaluated. It gives the total price up front, including taxes and fees (which can change the total cost significantly). We didn’t find any hidden fees or other surprises on the final itinerary. If the hotel requires any fees paid to them directly (like parking or a resort fee), Costco flags that clearly when you try to book. Their refund policies vary from booking to booking, but those are very clear as well. Costco Executive Members qualify for 2 percent rewards on Costco Travel purchases. The Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi card earns 3% cash back on eligible travel purchases.

Cons: We found that Costco offers fewer hotel options than Sam’s and BJ’s, and that it does not offer any hotel-only options in certain destinations. Travelers looking only for a hotel room and who want the widest selection of hotels to choose from may be disappointed.

Sam’s Club In our experience, Sam’s is best for hotel bookings. In one instance, it offered a savings of more than $1,000 compared with booking directly with a luxury London hotel, though it did not deliver savings consistently. According to a spokesperson, Sam’s core members are families with children who tend to buy tickets to major theme parks like Disney World, Disneyland, and Universal Studios. We did not evaluate these offerings.

Pros: Sam’s offers a very wide variety of well-priced hotel options around the world, as well as tickets (some of them discounted) for day tours, Broadway shows, Disney, entertainment options (like movies, theme parks, concerts), and other tourist attractions. With a Sam’s Club Mastercard, members receive an extra 3 percent cash back on any travel or entertainment purchase to use at the store. According to Sam’s website, it offers a Best Rate Guarantee within 24 hours of booking, but with a $150 maximum refund and a lot of fine print.

Cons : Sam’s does not offer flights, so anyone looking for ready-made vacation packages that include air will need to shop elsewhere. Some of the rental car offerings we found did not include unlimited mileage. Sam’s doesn’t include the taxes and fees until check out, so if you’re comparison shopping, it’s harder to get the full picture until the very end. Sam’s also doesn’t include resort fees (or anything else payable to the hotel, like parking), which is explained in the fine print but, again, may make it difficult to know how much you’re going to pay in the end.

Keep In Mind When buying travel from any third party, including a warehouse club, assistance may be limited if you run into a problem, such as a flight cancellation. Customer service representatives aren’t travel agents and, though a company may say that travel experts are available around the clock, that was not our experience. Bottom line: If you need to reschedule a flight or there is an issue with the hotel, you should be prepared to deal with the travel provider directly and not assume that the warehouse club will come to the rescue.

Always compare rates with the hotel directly. A hotel website may offer special packages that could include extras like breakfast or spa credits that could actually make them a better deal than comparing the room rate alone.

Finally, always check the fine print. Cancellation and refund policies may differ between sites and even among different travel purchases on the same site. Double-check the terms of any booking before you pay.

The single best thing to buy at costco in may 2024.

Many shoppers heading to Costco this month may be shopping with airtight grocery lists. If there’s wiggle room in your budget to include a few extra purchases, what can you spend your money on that provides a solid return on investment?

GOBankingRates reviewed items for sale across various Costco departments and chose a few runners-up, along with a winning item, which are worth shopping in May. Do you agree with our suggestions for the best Costco buys ?

Runner-up: Chinet Classic Lunch Paper Plates

Now through May 26, Chinet classic lunch paper plates are on sale for $4 off their original price. This brings the total down to $18.99 and with 225 plates included in every package, Costco members only end up paying about eight cents per plate.

As a runner-up, adding a great sale on an essential paper product was a no-brainer on our end. May is full of festive holidays including Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and graduation where paper plates are a must-have and must-buy. Whether you’re hosting or attending as a guest, it’s a good idea to stock up to make sure you don’t run out. Just remember to limit two sets per purchase while shopping at Costco.

Be Aware: Dollar Tree Is Raising Prices: 9 Products To Buy Now Before They Increase

Runner-Up: 32 Degrees Ladies’ Cool Tee (3-Pack)

Warm weather months mean it’s time to dig out the t-shirts — or shop for new tees if your old ones are too worn out. Costco members shopping 32 Degrees ladies’ cool tees will receive $3 off their purchase now through May 27 and pay just $10.99.

Each package includes three tees. Shop the black pack for one black, one blue and one purple tee or shop the white pack for one white, one heather gray and one pink tee. You might even shop both if you want to add a pop of color to your summer wardrobe for less. Women’s sizes also come in a wide range from small to XX-large.

Winner: Cascade Mountain Tech Ultralight Highback Chair (2-Pack)

If you want to shop the Cascade Mountain Tech ultralight highback chairs , we recommend doing it as soon as possible. These chairs are $20 off their original price of $89.99 now through May 11.

Summer will be here before you know it and if you’re planning to go camping or attend outdoor summer concerts at the park, having these chairs will be essential for your overall comfort and enjoyment. They made our winning item as the best buy at Costco this month because shoppers get two chairs with their purchase. After the manufacturer’s savings have been applied, this comes out to paying about $39.99 per chair.

As an added shopping bonus, the Cascade chairs live up to their ultralight name. Each chair weighs up to four pounds and is fully collapsible with a carry bag to make transportation a breeze. A removable and adjustable headrest is also included to ensure maximum comfort as you relax.

Nickel and dime you to death…

My flight (not booked through costco travel) changed , I had to update my ground transport pick up information so the pick up date/ time would be accurate. Would you believe they nickel and Dime you death! They actually charged me to update the ground transport pick up time! Utterly disgusting.

Atrocious Car Hire

In August 2023, I hired a ‘Premium Car Automatic’ for £262.94 for 3 days. What I received was a three-and-a-half-year-old, ‘Mercedes-Benz C220 AMG line premium’, registration KP20 JXZ, it had many small dents and damage and 40,000+ miles. The car was fitted with 19-inch wheels, sports suspension and run flat tyres. The car rode atrociously. This was probably partly due to the 3 budget tyres fitted (Chinese Made ROADX Rxmotion). After 24 hours the car was replaced with a lesser car, but in better condition (a 2023 Mercedes- Benz A class variant). The C Class had one premium tyre (Bridgestone Potenza) in addition to the three cheap Chinese tyres. It appears mixing different tyres means nothing to Costco or their subcontractor Enterprise. I also discovered the two front tyres were of insufficient load index and were thus not road legal. Costco have been useless at resolving this and giving me a refund. Costco are acting like a useless go between for Enterprise who have offered just £25! They risked my safety and driving licence and offer me a measly £25! Avoid Costco car hire and Enterprise.

Useless customer service

Waited on hold 20 minutes to speak to someone and they say they don’t have any answers. They can sell me a cruise to Alaska but can’t tell me if I can actually go or not.

Booked a trip to Greece last year. I paid less than half of what I would have using another travel agent. Same exact hotels, all airport transfers. Amazing service. Highly recommended

We returned a car to Enterprise…

We returned a car to Enterprise Valencia that was booked through Costco. We returned the car on October 7th and informed Enterprise of damage to the car that we had caused. Enterprise took 1500 Euros from our credit card with no invoice and that is the last we have heard. Continual requests for updates are ignored and I do not believe the 1500: euros will ever be accounted for. We are unable to put an insurance request forward because of the above inertia. I will never use Costco car hire again and for an avowed Costco fan this has left a sour taste.

Hyatt and Costco thieves together

It’s so ridiculous that I’ve been a Costco member for more than 20 years and decided to use travel for the first time and got completely cheated and duped by Costco. They sold me a package I Gard Cayman Hyatt and the incentive was a $60 a day spending credit. Sounds fine ha? Low life scum bags need you to spend $1000 per day on Cabanas in order to get the $60 credit. If that is not cheating and deceiving I don’t what is.

vacation to Amsterdam-Paris with Coatco Travel

I booked a vacation to Amsterdam-Paris on April 17, 2023. the plan is a flight to Amsterdam, then a train trip to Paris, and a flight back to Vancouver from Paris. when we got closer to our vacation, I noticed that we have not received any confirmation for Amsterdam to Paris train trip. I called Costco Travel several times. every time the agent said that they put a note for the train booking department to follow up. nothing happened so far. just keep calling again to find someone to help. agents are polite but no progress. I book the vacation to rest but the way Costco Travel is managing my vacation gives me frustration and disappointment. I lost my trust in Costco Travel by reading the reviews on this page. I m not sure if they booked the rest of my vacation schedule properly.

Flight Credit is a JOKE

We received a credit for our flights that had to be canceled due to the wildfires in Maui. However, they charge you so much in fees and taxes to use the credit it works out to be the same as the list price (without using the air credit for a trip) or MORE than the list price online for a net new trip. Also, to get a quote using your air fair credit takes HOURS. Literally, it takes hours to get a quote. Buyer beware - do not use Costco Travel!

Amazing Customer Service!

*This review is only based on customer service as our vacation isn’t for another month. Our American Airline flights booked through Costco Travel changed drastically. As in we now ended up having an overnight layover AND one of our flights got cancelled altogether (so we would have been stranded in Cancun). I contacted Costco expecting them to issue a refund and we’d have to book new flights ourselves, but the customer service rep, Johnny, took amazing care of us. He was able to cancel our existing flights and book new ones for us. I mentioned we were traveling with two other couples, and rather than having them sit on hold for hours, we were able to make the same changes to their reservations (with their consent of course). He also suggested different transportation options to the airport so we didn’t have to sit in the airport for hours and hours before our flight. All in all, he took amazing care of us and made the situation way less stressful. Kudos to Johnny! Now, I am frustrated with Costco Travel (and American Airlines) that we were not notified of any changes to our flights. We just stumbled upon it when adding our passport information to the American Airlines app. It could have been disastrous since the flight from Cancun to our connecting airport was canceled.

Do not book your travel through COSCTO

Do not book your travel through COSCTO. Yes, it is a better price; however, if anything happens while on vacation, expect zero help from them. From the experience I had, it was very hard to connect with them, first of all, and secondly, they promise to resolve your issues and call you back. I spoke to at least five different people, begging for help, but none followed up. I luckily had a friend who worked at the airport and helped me fix my issues. It was the worst anxiety-filled vacation I've ever had. All my pending problems were up in the air the whole week I was there and they never helped. Horrible service, even after speaking to management.

The benefits might look good

The benefits might look good, but they won't support you. We have booked numerous cruises through Costco, but they are just not going to be your advocates if problems arise. Booked a cruise flight combination through Costco over 8 months ago and am still waiting for flights with less than 3 weeks to sailing despite many calls and hours of trying over the months to get resolution. Somewhere between Costco and NCL they booked flights for 1 instead of 2 and booked to arrive on the sailing date instead of the day before as requested. The Costco Supervisor is just waiting for NCL and refuses to give me contact information for his manager so that I can escalate the issue. Update: With one week until we are supposed to fly out, we have the flights that we requested 8 months ago. To Costco's credit, they did eventually escalate the issue internally in order to sort it out. Just wish I could have done this without the stress, uncertainty, numerous calls, etc.

Greece made easy!

Costco Travel is the "no hassel" way to travel. They take care of EVERYTHING so your anxiety level is greatly reduced. We traveled to Greece from 5/20/23 - 5/31/23 and I can't imagine trying to plan all the connections by myself. From the moment we got off the plane, someone from Costco was there to greet us. They were there at the ferry ports and all our connections were pain free and easy. I will use Costco Travel every time now.

Their website is clunky as hell and logging on is almost impossible because they almost always seem to be having "technical difficulties". How can such an excellent company like Costco have such a piece of crap for a travel website?

Costco has no customers service

I reserved a van from Enterprise thru Costco travel the day before I was to pick it up I was told they did not have any, and they could not help me . I delt with Enterprise for 2 days with no resolution. I call Costco customer service. They put me on hold for10 min. Then disconnected me. I call them the next day. I was told there was a van at another location and I should go get that van and tell them I only wanted to pay the amount I was originally quoted (even though they were asking 3 times my quote for their vehicle) Customer service said if the new location did not honor the quote they would try to get my mony back. But, they would not guarantee they could get me reimbursed

First car rental with them went very…

First car rental with them went very well (4 stars). Second attempted car rental, not so good (2 stars) - hence 3 star average. First time I used them was for a rental pick up and drop off at LAX, CA. Not too much of a wait to get the car, but very long wait to exit the parking lot as we all had to funnel through a small gap and people were driving out of the parking area from many directions, so it made for gridlock for over 30 minutes. Car itself was fine and drop off was quicker than pick up. Made another reservation for car rental from London Heathrow later this year. At time of booking, cost was £450. Airline changed our flights so we had to add one day's rental on to the start of our trip. There is only a 'cancel' button on their website but I checked first to see what the new rate would be if I cancelled and rebooked with the additional day. New price quoted was £622. Figured it would be a bit higher since we made the reservation a few months ago, however if you add one day car rental price to my current booking the total would be £550. Called customer service to ask what they could do to help us, as we didn't want to cancel and re-book. Agent added the additional day and quoted me £834! He could not explain why adding one day would almost double the price (13 days vs 14 days). Not surprisingly, I cancelled completely and have since rebooked for much cheaper with another company. So, mixed feelings about Costco Travel - this would have been our new go-to for car rental after our first experience, but maybe it's not so good if you have to change your itinerary closer to the travel date (trip is still 4 months out). Felt customer service could have at least made some effort to see why the price he was quoting was so much higher than the price I got on the website. Likely won't use Costco Travel again, but glad I had a reasonable experience the first time.

Unhappy with Costco Travel

Recently used Costco Travel to go to the Bahamas. Our transportation was a no show for both arrival and departure. We had to pay for a taxi to get to our hotel. The hotel room we booked we were told they were sold out of when we arrived and gave us a different room. If we booked months in advance I am not sure how they sold out. The room wreaked of mildew. I reached out to Costco for a refund for transportation and the room. Costco Travel said they could only issue credit if the vendor approved it which they didn’t. What a joke. I’ll never use Costco Travel again.

Family of 3 couples, for Ireland

Used Costco travel for our trip to Ireland. The wait time to talk with someone was 2 plus hours. Had to call multiple times and still messed up the travel arrangements. One time after waiting 2hrs we talked with someone and we're cut off. No return phone call, even after the agent took our number. Seemed like they just could not get anything right. After talking with them they would later send out an itinerary an it would be wrong. For example seats for a flight, then having two couples staying together, in the same room. We had three couples (family) on a tour. One would have something, we all had issues. Just terrible, terrible service!! No value or saving noticed at all. Stay away!

I won't use this service ever again

I won't use this service ever again. I bought the package for Hawaii the end of June 2023. I did not expect that one of the flights, I have to wait to pick seats. I called and no help was offered. I better off use the real travel agency then this amateur one. Recommendatuon was pay more money so my daughter and I can sit together. This agent blame the airline for this issue. After you purchase the package, do not expect any help from them.

We rented a car for a week in Florida…

We rented a car for a week in Florida through Costco travel. They found me a good deal through Budget or so it seemed $345.82 for 7 days. Well not really, the bill came to $712.82 I did not need any of the extra services like gas at the end of the trip or insurance. Both of which I made very clear at the time of picking up the car. And I had proof by taking a photo go the gas gauge, mileage and time at drop off. And a call to my insurance provider at the time of pickup of the vehicle. Yet I was billed anyway. I asked for help from Costco travel to correct this and got at to bad for you, you signed the contract. The fact that I was not informed that I was signing for services I neither required nor used is of no concern to COSTCO.
