How to reach Nepal

Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, is the main point of entry into the country. Of all the ways to reach Nepal, the most convenient way is by flight. Direct flights to Kathmandu from Delhi are operated by airlines like Air India, Indigo Airlines, and Nepal Airlines.

Flight connections to Kathmandu are also available from other Indian cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad etc.

Indians looking for budget options to reach Nepal also sometimes take the land route via Nepalgunj by crossing the India – Nepal border and continuing on to Kathmandu, but this is not the most convenient and time-efficient way to arrange your Nepal travel.

Nepal Visa for Indians

If you are planning a Nepal trip, you will be pleased to learn that Indians do not require a visa to travel to Nepal. Indian nationals travelling to Nepal can enter by just showing either their passport or voter ID (and school or college ID in the case of children).

Nepal tours — Top destinations to visit

  • Trek the amazing Everest Base Camp: The trek to Everest Base Camp is one of the world’s most exciting adventures one could have. The Everest Base Camp is situated at the height of 5,364 meters. The 15-day traditional or classic trek is the most popular route starting from Lukla. But you can also start the trek from Jiri or try the more challenging Three Passes route. The best time to trek to the region is from March to May and September to November.
  • Follow the trail to Annapurna Base Camp: The 13-day Annapurna Base Camp trek is less intense than the Everest Base Camp trek but offers equally incredible views of the Himalayan peaks. You will cross ancient kingdoms, breathtaking mountain vistas, stunning glaciers, pristine rivers, and natural hot springs in this trek. September to November is the best season to do this trek. Chances of rain are less, the skies are mostly clear and temperatures are moderate. March to May is also a good time for the trek, but be careful of avalanches.
  • View the wildlife in Chitwan National Park: Nepal’s oldest wildlife sanctuary, Chitwan National Park is home to many wild animals and Unesco World Heritage Site. Discover the Royal Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros and Gharial crocodile on a safari trip. If you are planning to spend multiple days here, you can spend the night in watchtowers called Machans to spot the park’s inhabitants at night.
  • Visit the popular sites in Lumbini: A Unesco World Heritage Site, Lumbini holds immense spiritual importance as it is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. A large number of Buddhist devotees travel here every year. But even people of different faiths can enjoy the artistic treasures here, including the beautiful stupas, temples and sculptures.
  • Explore the ancient landmarks in Kathmandu: A holiday to Kathmandu valley is bound to be a great one as it has seven UN World Heritage Sites. The Durbar squares in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur will give you a taste of the history, art and culture of the three cities that together make the Kathmandu Valley. The holy sites such as Pashupatinath and Boudhanath are perfect for the religiously inclined. Another famous Buddhist site to visit is the Swayambhunath Stupa or the ‘Monkey Temple,’ which sits atop a hill. From here, you can get a sweeping panorama of the valley.
  • Try adventure sports in Pokhara: Home to many lakes, caves and extensive water system, Pokhara is a haven for nature lovers. Add adventure sports and you have a recipe for an ideal holiday destination. Nepal is an amazing country to visit, and there may be other key factors that you wish to consider before traveling there. Please check our “ Nepal travel guide ” which will give you a lot of relevant information about traveling to Nepal.

Tours in Nepal - Questions and Answers

How much you spend in Nepal is largely decided by things you want to do in the country . A 5-day trekking trip in Nepal can start from as little at USD 400 per person. A weekend-long safari in Chitwan National Park is available at less than USD 200.

On average,  seven days in Nepal with accommodation and some or all meals included costs anywhere between USD 700 to USD 1500 per person. Good rooms at  hotels in Nepal range from USD 25 to over USD 150 per person, per night, while around USD 1.5 a day can buy you three meals in decent restaurants.

The best time to visit Nepal is during the months of spring (March, April, and May) as well as in autumn (September, October, and early November) after the monsoon has ended. These months offer the most favorable climate for travelers, with mild temperatures and fewer chances of rainfall. Learn more .

The duration of your Nepal trip is determined by the activities you wish to engage in. For instance, if you plan to go on a hiking trip to the Langtang Valley or Pikey Peak, settling for a seven-day jaunt is enough. But if you are interested in trekking to Everest Base Camp , you will need around two weeks. Likewise, there are other treks available in Nepal , like the Manaslu Circuit trek , that can last as long as three weeks.

Besides the popular treks, including a few days of safari, some cultural sightseeing trips or a yoga retreat to your itinerary will easily bring your Nepal vacation to 3 weeks or more. For more information check out our guide on how many days to spend in Nepal .

Nepal’s visa charges depend on the duration of your stay. If you plan to spend 15 days in the country, expect to pay USD 30 per person. However, a 30-day visit to the country would cost USD 50, while a 90-day visit would set you back by USD 125 per person. Learn more .

There are a few things you should avoid during your stay in Nepal. If you are trekking to the Himalayas , stay clear of any area you have been warned not to visit. These areas may be prone to loose soil due to recent landslides. Also, if you encounter yaks on your trekking trips, steer clear of their paths. These high-altitude animals, averaging 400 kilos, can be hostile at the slightest hint of intimidation.

The Nepalese people are strict with their religion and culture. Do not walk into temples or monasteries without taking off your shoes, and avoid leather jackets, and belts, as these are considered irreverential. Finally, not all Nepalese feel comfortable being embraced or cuddled. However, a ‘namaste’ (a local form of greeting) with a warm smile on your face gets the job done.

You require a passport with at least six months’ validity to enter Nepal. However, travelers of Indian nationality can enter the country by providing a valid Indian ID or an election card.

Nepal is located in Asia, along the southern slopes of the Himalayas. This South Asian country shares its borders with China to the north and India to its south, east, and west.

The most notable highlight of Nepal is the world’s tallest peak, Mount Everest. You can also enjoy long hikes in the Himalayas and indulge in a variety of outdoor sports such as ziplining, canyoning, and rock climbing while in the country. Furthermore, travelers can discover Unesco-listed temples, stupas, and durbar squares in Kathmandu, while enjoying traditional Nepali food . The other must-visit destination that Nepal is known for is Pokhara, a city of lakes and the gateway for those heading out to explore the Annapurna region .

Everest Base Camp Trek

Well planned, excellent guide and assistant guide.

Everest Base Camp Trek Tour

The best trekking company in Nepal! I spent a month in Nepal and did two separate treks with Alpine Ramble – the 11 day Annapurna Circuit and 8 day Everest Base Camp. I did a fair amount of research on trekking companies before booking and Alpine Ramble more than deserves the reputation it has in review sections like these! First up, you have Dil who is the mastermind behind it all. He was really easy to contact via WhatsApp before I arrived. He was able to plan a trip for me that allowed me to see both Annapurna and Everest regions, with enough time for acclimatisation, rest and unforeseen delays. Speaking of which, my flight to Lukla was delayed one day due to weather, which is very common. But this is when Dil went above and beyond. He organised a helicopter to take me the next day, at no additional charge. For context, the other people on the heli had to pay upwards of $300 each. Now I’m sure Dil wouldn’t be able to do this for every customer, but it just shows how committed he is to making sure you have the best time. And I’m so thankful, it was only one of the best experiences of my life! Now onto the guides and porters. I had Basanta and Prakash for ACT, and Krishna Dhakar and Balkumar for EBC. They were all fantastic. Whether it was playing ludo/cards together or them cheerleading me through some of the more challenging sections of the trek, I will be forever grateful to these guys for making my experience so special. They were all such wonderful people. They set a nice slow hiking pace and checked my oxygen levels every night to reduce the risk of altitude sickness, but also recognised when I could go a bit further. They took care of everything, so I could just focus on enjoying the trekking! We stayed in great tea houses throughout, and I’d always seem to get the best room on offer. Maybe that’s Dil working his magic! Last thing. You read and hear a lot about poor working conditions and exploitation in Nepal. It was really important to me that this wasn’t the case for my trip and I can confirm that Alpine Ramble treats all its staff fairly. From limits on how heavy the porters’ bags can be, to the 10% that goes to charity, Alpine Ramble seems very ethical. I was delighted to hear that one of my guide’s (very smart) sons was studying Computer Science in the US. It gave me confidence that my money was being fairly distributed. Thank you so much to everyone at Alpine Ramble, I’ll be back one day!

Tale of Three Cities (Kathmandu & Nagarkot Tour) Tour

Tale of Three Cities (Kathmandu & Nagarkot Tour)

Our tour was incredibly enjoyable, informative and memorable!!! It gave us a great first taste of the beautiful country of Nepal with our tour guide Navaraj, with hopes of returning in the future for a longer, more complete exploration. We were lucky that my wife and I were the only participants in this edition of the Tale of Three Cities Tour, so Navaraj was able to tailor the tour more to our interests. He did a great job of not only showing us the highlights in and around Kathmandu but he also gave us real life exposure of the Nepalese people and their culture. With Navaraj's guidance, we also had enjoyable experiences sampling foods that are typical of the region. Since there were only the two of us, Navaraj was always ready to answer our many questions and gave us incites into the area, sites visited, Nepalese culture and religions. We would highly recommend Navaraj and Tour Radar to anyone interested in getting an intimate and thorough introduction to Nepal.

Everest Base Camp Trek 12 Days

I recently had the incredible opportunity to embark on a 12-day Everest Base Camp Trek with Sherpa Expedition, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I contacted them to inquire about the trek to the moment I said goodbye to my guide and porter at the end of the journey, Sherpa Expedition provided exceptional service and support every step of the way. The team at Sherpa Expedition was professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about ensuring that my trek was not only safe but also enjoyable. Our guide was experienced and had an in-depth understanding of the local culture, history, and geography of the region, which added so much depth to the trek. He was also very attentive to our needs, constantly checking in on our well-being and making sure we were acclimatizing properly to the high altitudes. The itinerary for the trek was well-planned and allowed us to acclimatize gradually as we made our way to Everest Base Camp. Each day brought new breathtaking views of the Himalayas, and the sense of accomplishment upon reaching Base Camp was truly indescribable. The accommodations and meals provided during the trek were comfortable and delicious, giving us the energy we needed to continue our journey each day.

Our recent trip to Nepal was an amazing experience . It truly was a trip of a lifetime! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Shailesh Pokharel, the local travel advisor and this was a fantastic start! Despite the constant rainy weather everything went as planned. The trip, overall, was a huge success. Even in difficult, due to the rain situations, our guide, Valmiki Rijal, Sujan, as we used to call him, offered alternative solutions that help us to enjoy every moment of our trip. On the way to every location, he provided interesting and fascinating facts about the history and geography of the places and regions. He is very knowledgeable about Nepal in general, he is nice and engaging and made sure to give us an amazing experience. Sujan was very patient with us and did his best to accommodate our needs and interests. Sujan is a great guide, a true sample of excellent tour guide! After spending 7 days with him, I don’t hesitate to say that we got an exceptional friend in Nepal. Apart of the rainy weather, the other problem we faced was the bad condition of the 2 hotels we stayed in, but again everybody did their best to facilitate our stay. Both Shailesh Pokharel and Valmiki Rijal, (Sujan) and all the people met in Nepal were so friendly that make us felt like home. During our stay in Nepal, we always felt like we were among friends. We really loved meeting Sujan’s family and enjoying the dinner, Shailesh’s wife offered to us at their home. Shailesh and Sujan you have did a great job. Thank you! We highly recommend Nepal Trekking Routes!

Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return Tour

Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return

We booked with Nepal Trekking Routes Treks & Expeditions for the Everest base camp trek with helicopter return and travelled during end of November 2018. From the beginning to the end of the trip, everything was very well planned and we were quite fortunate to have beautiful weather every single day. A fantastic bunch of team and were expertly guided on the trip by our Guide Nawin and the porters. All in all, it was a trip of a lifetime and the helicopter flight back to Kathmandu was definitely a highlight of our trek. I would highly recommend Nepal Trekking Routes Treks & Expeditions and will definitely be using them again. Thank you.

Things to do in nepal.

1. Visit the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu: Regarded as one of the oldest Hindu temples in Kathmandu, believed to be constructed as early as 400 CE, the Pashupatinath temple is considered one of Asia's four most religious sites and is a must-visit! The temple is nestled between the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, on the eastern fringes, attracting thousands of devotees of Lord Shiva from different parts of the world to come and admire the Jyotirlinga housed here.

You can take a turn to the eastern banks of the lake, also known as Baidam or Lakeside and enjoy the best tourist places in Nepal with hotels, lodges, restaurants, book and souvenir shops.

3. Zipline in Pokhara: Located in one of the most beautiful places, the heart of the Himalayas, the Zipline in Nepal is the longest, tallest and steepest zipline in the world, enjoying exhilarating views of the Annapurna mountain range at a speed of over 85 miles an hour. If you have a knack for adventure activities, this is something you cannot miss!

4. Undertake a hike to the Peace Stupa in Pokhara: The iconic Peace Pagoda, also known as the Shanti Stupa, is a popular attraction and a striking landmark, perched on the Anadu Hill, featuring an aesthetic backdrop of the Annapurna mountain range while overlooking the Phewa Lake. In addition, there are many trekking trails that the visitors climb to explore the serene beauty of the Himalayas or drive by, capturing the mesmerizing views.

5. Do some river rafting in the Trishuli River: Enjoy the most enthralling river rafting, one of Nepal's most popular outdoor activities. The Trishuli river runs parallel to the east-west Prithvi Highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara, offering ideal and exciting rapids, perfect for an adventurous time. The rafters can also sight native and migrant birds, beautiful rock formations and scenic views along the river. The stretch between Charaudi and Mugling has several riverside camps for the full experience!

6. Why to Buy Nepal Tour Packages?

Buying a Nepal tour package is crucial for any traveler, especially those planning to explore the diverse landscapes and cultural richness of this Himalayan nation. Considering the challenges mentioned earlier, let's delve into the reasons why purchasing a Nepal tour package is essential: Expert Guidance and Local Knowledge: Nepal tour packages come with experienced guides who possess in-depth knowledge about the country's geography, culture, and history. They can provide valuable insights during treks, city tours, and visits to cultural landmarks. For example, a guide can narrate the significance of sacred sites like Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, enriching the travel experience. Safety and Security: Nepal's rugged terrain and remote areas may pose risks, especially for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. Tour packages prioritize the safety of travelers and take necessary precautions, such as providing trained guides and well-equipped support staff. For instance, during a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp, tour operators ensure proper acclimatization and emergency measures in case of adverse weather conditions. Smooth Logistics and Permit Handling: Obtaining permits for certain trekking regions or restricted areas can be complex and time-consuming. Nepal tour packages include handling permits and paperwork, saving travelers the hassle and ensuring they have the necessary documents to explore specific regions, like Upper Mustang or Manaslu. Acclimatization and Gradual Ascents: Nepal is famous for its high-altitude treks, which can expose travelers to altitude-related challenges. Tour packages often include gradual ascents, allowing travelers to acclimatize properly and reduce the risk of altitude sickness. This is particularly crucial during challenging treks to Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit. Cultural Immersion: Nepal's rich cultural heritage and diverse ethnic communities make it a fascinating destination for cultural immersion. Tour packages may include visits to local villages, interactions with indigenous communities, and opportunities to participate in traditional festivals. For example, travelers may experience the vibrant Tihar festival, also known as the festival of lights. Stress-Free Planning and Accommodations: Planning a Nepal trip independently can be overwhelming, especially for first-time visitors. Tour packages take care of all logistics, including transportation, accommodations, and activities, ensuring a stress-free and well-organized journey. Pre-arranged accommodations range from comfortable city hotels to cozy lodges during treks, offering a pleasant stay experience. By purchasing a Nepal tour package, travelers can benefit from expert guidance, safety measures, seamless logistics, cultural immersion, and stress-free planning. These advantages help travelers overcome the challenges and ensure a rewarding and unforgettable experience in the majestic landscapes and vibrant culture of Nepal.

Extraordinary Nepal Tours & Vacation Packages

Step outside your comfort zone with one of our extraordinary Nepal tours to the former Gorkha Kingdom at the top of the world.

Make your dream of seeing Mount Everest and other tourist highlights a reality with Exoticca’s affordable packages. These deals often include flights, hotels, tours, and transfers .

We arrange your bookings in advance and satisfy all procedures and red tape, allowing you to enjoy this country’s spectacular views .

We place you in the safe hands of local guides who will ensure you have an authentic experience. Let Exoticca sweat the small stuff while you disconnect from your busy schedule .

Trips to Nepal from the USA

Join one of our Nepal tours to visit this spiritual place and blow your friends’ minds with your travel tales. If you love mountains, there are no better examples on the planet, but there’s much more to this awe-inspiring land .

Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multicultural state , so while small, it’s incredibly diverse. The rumored birthplace of Buddha, divided by towering ranges, offers much to see and learn.

Landscapes vary from the highest peaks in the world to a unique savannah and safaris in the lowland Terai region. The resilience of the land has produced eight 8,000 meter (five mile) peaks, and its people are equally tenacious.

They shrugged off the monarchy in 2006 and staggered through the seismic upheaval of the devastating April 2015 earthquake. Rebuilding continues, but now, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is officially looking forward .

Top points of interest in Nepal

Nepal packs a considerable punch for a relatively small country. While the Himalayas are the primary drawcard , don’t overlook the lowlands, especially Chitwan National Park.

Our Exoticca travel experts understand that the combination of planned events and free time makes or breaks vacation packages to Nepal. We ensure you have the freedom to explore on your own to create lasting memories by immersing yourself in the culture.

Only about 6,000 people have stood on top of Mount Everest, but many more can gaze in wonder at the highest mountain on earth . At 8,849 meters (29,031 feet), it straddles the border of Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China east of the country.

Also known as Chomolungma or Sagarmatha , depending on which side you are. A few visit Nepal to climb it or the myriad of other peaks. Around 35,000 others trek to Everest Base Camp yearly to see it up close.

Some are satisfied to see the spectacular three-sided pyramid of the peak from a distance, and there’s no doubting its humbling effect. Others take awe-inspiring sightseeing flights from the local airport or enjoy a thrilling helicopter flyby on one of our Nepal adventure tours.

Chitwan National Park opened in 1973 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Located in the sub-tropical Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal, the park offers an alternative landscape and altitude ranging from 100–815 meters (330–2,674 feet).

Home to 68 mammal species, the undoubted star of the show is the Bengal tiger. Our Nepal tours from the US traverse the alluvial floodplain that provides excellent tiger habitat . An initial population of 25 of these gorgeous beasts grew to nearly 100 by 2022.

It’s possible to spot Indian leopards on the fringes of tiger territory, and Chitwan has a high density of sloth bears. There are otters, Bengal foxes, striped hyenas, and wild dogs. It also boasts the largest population of Indian rhinos in the country.

There are spotted linsangs, honey badgers, Indian bison, jackals, macaques, langurs, pangolins, porcupines, flying squirrels, and over 500 bird species .

The Nepali capital is a captivating city with a stack of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and teasing vistas of the Himalayas. Swayambhunath Temple overlooks the sprawling city across to the Himalayas, with gangs of macaques earning it the nickname “monkey temple.”

Consider visiting Pashupatinath, the most important Shiva temple , and Boudhanath Stupa, which contains Buddha’s remains and relics. The latter also includes a massive mandala that makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in the country.

You won’t miss Durbar Square amongst the maze-like alleys of the old town on one of our Nepal guided tours. The earthquake of 2015 caused damage to several historic buildings, which they’re carefully rebuilding.

Thamel is the capital’s entertainment center and nightlife zone with hotels, bars, and casinos. It still draws tourists as it did in the late 1970s when it was part of the hippie trail .

Central Nepal tours take you to this village on the rim of the Kathmandu Valley. It commands some of the broadest views of the Himalayas . It’s 32 kilometers (20 miles) east of the capital and offers striking vistas at sunrise and sunset.

Most visitors come for a glimpse of Mount Everest, but there are many other significant Himalayan peaks and epic panoramas of the valley . Nagarkot is about 2,200 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level and offers hiking and trekking opportunities.

Don’t miss the ancient Changu Narayan Temple, which is nearly 2,000 years old and honors Lord Vishnu. It’s significant for Hindus and has intricate carvings. There’s even paragliding to take it up a notch if you’re feeling adventurous.

Nepal: Off the beaten track

Our local experts provide exotic experiences that are safe, thrilling, and educational . Let them guide your adventure into uncharted territory to discover some hidden gems. Off the beaten tracks in Nepal provide a unique experience.

Pokhara is the second-most populous city in the country, with half a million inhabitants. It sits beside the tranquil Phewa Lake from where you can view the Annapurna range, 28 kilometers (17 miles) away.

Pokhara reaches around 822 meters (3,000 feet), while the Annapurnas include three of the world’s top ten peaks . It’s as if you can reach out and touch the snow-covered mountaintops on clear days.

The Manaslu region is pristine and virtually untouched , with glacier lakes, towering peaks, and rich biodiversity. Trekking requires a special permit.

While the Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Sanctuary treks seem popular, they also take you off the beaten path . In summer and winter, tourist numbers drop significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best time to visit Nepal?

Spring and fall are the popular trekking windows, but some choose the snowy winters for lower visitor numbers and icy conditions. Rainy summers may obscure the spectacular vistas, but the lower plains are warm and dry. There are always colorful festivals and celebrations in Nepal.

Is Nepal cheap to travel to?

Nepal is one of the most affordable countries in Asia to travel to, but certain activities incur entry fees or require permits. The local currency is the Nepalese Rupee.

Is Nepal friendly to tourists?

Yes, our Nepal tours from the US explore a relatively safe and secure country with low crime levels. Follow the local guidelines, take all necessary precautions, and stay informed by asking the friendly locals.

How many days in Nepal are enough?

If you hope to get a decent impression of the country, try to spend at least two weeks on the “roof of the world.” Others say visiting for a month barely scratches the surface of this magical land.

Is it worth going to Nepal?

Absolutely. If you’re interested in adventure tourism, a trip to Nepal is probably on your bucket list for trekking and climbing alone. Many are happy to be surrounded by fantastic beauty. It also offers unique cuisine, a rich culture, and some of the friendliest people in Asia.

More information about Nepal

A landlocked  South Asian  nation,  Nepal  is nestled amidst the peaks of the magical  Himalayas  and is known as the country where ‘culture and nature meets’. A classic travel destination, a  holiday to Nepal  is the perfect blend of golden temples and stupas, abundant wildlife and soul-stirring  Himilayan  views; the kind of views you can only dream of!

In fact,  Nepal  is home to eight of the world's tallest mountains including mythical  Mount Everest.  Bordered by  China ,  India,  and  Bangladesh ,  Nepal  offers both adrenalin-filled adventures, such as mountain climbing, safaris and deft-defying  Everest  flights, to more laid-back pursuits such as sightseeing in the medieval cities of  Kathmandu, Patan  and  Bhaktapur  or simply soaking up spectacular panoramic views from a hill-top village.

Prayer flags, prayer wheels, and jewel-toned stupas decorate your journey through the ‘ roof of the world’ . The iconic  Durbar Squares  offer insight into the days of the  Newar Kings  and the entire  Kathmandu Valley  acts as an open-air museum, with the capital,  Kathmandu  at the heart of all  Nepal tours.

A  trip to Nepal  also offers an insight into the beliefs and practices of both  Hinduism  and  Buddhism , important pillars of everyday life in the country, after all  Lumbini , today an important pilgrimage site, is believed to be the birthplace of  Buddha  himself. Above all,  travel to Nepal  is all about the landscapes, in themselves spiritual.

History of Nepal

Nepal’s  history is closely intertwined with that of the wider  Indian  subcontinent and the nation was first mentioned in ancient  Vedic  texts, dating back to the emergence of  Hinduism.  Around the  4th-century BC ,  Buddhism  was introduced to  Nepal , influenced by the teachings of  Gautama Buddha.  Today, you can visit the birthplace of  Buddha  himself in  Lumbini  during a  tour of Nepal.

In the early centuries, the  Licchavi dynasty  flourished throughout  India  and  Nepal  and built many  Hindu  and  Buddhist  temples. This great kingdom began to decline in the  8th-century  as  Newar  culture flourished. The traditions and practices of  Newar  culture are still prevalent in  Nepal  and form a distinct and unique cultural community who continue their age-old traditions, particularly in the  Kathmandu Valley.

In the  15th-century  the  Malla dynasty  divided  Nepal  into three kingdoms:  Kathmandu, Patan  and  Bhaktapur , reunited  300 years  later in the  18th-century  by the  Gorka  king  Prithvi Narayan Shan , who is remembered for his expansion of  Nepal’s  borders, eventually facing rivalry with  British India .

This led to the  Anglo-Nepal War  in the early  19th-century  and a period of instability followed. The pro-British  Rana dynasty  took power in  1846 , although their reign was somewhat tyrannous and it was not until over  100  years later that democracy was introduced to the country. Civil wars in the  1990s  and  2000s  resulted in the fall of the world’s last surviving  Hindu  monarchy in  2008,  marking the beginning of the secular republic of  Nepal .

Nature in Nepal

The land of  Himalayas,   Nepal  is filled with magical landscapes to explore and admire. A treasure trove for nature lovers,  Nepal holiday packages  can encompass as many as four different climate zones due to the country’s varied altitude.

Himilayan  animals, such as black bears and wild yak, contrast with the rare one-horned rhinos, elephants and elusive  Bengal tigers  of the subtropical lowlands, making  Nepal  a diverse destination for wildlife travel.  10 national parks  and  20 protected areas , covered an amazing  23%  of  Nepal’s  total territory, protect the pristine habitats and postcard-worthy landscapes.

Mount Everest National Park  offers giant snow capped peaks and thrilling mountain-climbing opportunities, whilst the tropical jungles of  Chitwan National Park  invite travellers to experience the wild side of  Nepal . Wildlife abounds here;  Nepal  is known for its plentiful butterfly species, with  11  of the  15  butterfly families found within the country, and it is even home to rare freshwater dolphins, found in the glistening  Narayani  and  Ghaghara  rivers. Avid birdwatchers would be wise to choose a  Nepal holiday  as the country is home to more than  850 bird species , such as the colourful  Himalayan monal,  the country’s national bird.

Culture in Nepal

Nepalese  culture is closely tied to religion.  Nepal  is home to the largest percentage of  Hindu ’s in the world, as well as a notable  Buddhist  population. Until recently,  Nepal  was a  Hindu Kingdom  and a  trip to Nepal  is incomplete without exploring the temples, such as  Pashupatinath Temple , a historic  Hindu  site, which highlight the significance of  Hinduism  on  Nepalese  culture.

Nepal  is also an amazing example of the coexistence of religions.  Buddhism  and  Hinduism  have existed side by side in  Nepal  for centuries and the national culture incorporates parts of both traditions. Elaborate festivals are an important facet of  Nepalese  culture, from complex marriage rituals to the extensive  Dashain Festival,  a  Hindu  festival celebrated at the end of  monsoon  season every year.

Arranged marriages are very common in  Nepal  and a normal part of the family structure whilst distinct gender roles are still common-place. Although  Nepal’s  urban areas are growing, particularly  Kathmandu,  a favourite starting point for most  tour packages of Nepal , the majority of the population depend on agriculture for their incomes and live in more rural parts of the country.

A long-time backpacker paradise, a  Nepal tour  is the perfect chance to understand a deeply religious and vibrant country, to hear the fluttering of prayer flags and to watch in awe as the sun rises over mythical  Mount Everest . A  holiday to Nepal  offers, not only, temples, stupas and sacred historic sights, but also rich, diverse wildlife and charming hilltop villages where time seems to move at a slower pace.  Travel to Nepal  and capture the essence of the ‘roof of the world’.

I found Go Nepal Tours and I must say they crafted our private tour of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Bakhtapur and Poon Hill circuit trek perfectly. Mesmerizing Nepal

Mesmerizing Nepal

Popular nepal tour packages, nepal tour packages faqs.

Q. What is the best time to go for a trek to the Everest Base Camp? A. If you have been browsing Nepal packages for the best Everest Base Camp trek itinerary, then you should choose from the two significant trekking seasons. The pre-monsoon months of February, March, April and May and the post-monsoon months between late September and December are ideal for a trek to the Everest Base Camp and scaling Kala Phattar. Avoid the harsher months of January and February when the Himalayan winter is at its peak with the temperature plummeting to -30 degree Celsius making it extremely challenging to find your way through the snow-covered trail. Q. Do the local Nepalese folk speak in English? A. While the official language of Nepal is Nepali which has its roots in Sanskrit, most people in the city including your lodging staff, shopkeepers and cafe owners can converse in English. However, if you are travelling remotely into the mountains and staying in small villages, you will encounter an array of tongues which are various sub-dialects, but there is little chance that you can get around in English. When looking for Nepal tour packages , ensure you have an English-speaking guide in tow. Q. Is Nepal a safe country to travel to? A. Simply go through Nepal travel packages and zero in on the suitable one because Nepal is a safe and a tourist-friendly country for both backpackers and those travelling with their families. A country with low-crime rate, you can easily wander around Nepal, trek its mountains and explore its medieval city,Bhaktapur, and Old Kathmandu and Thamel among other places even if you are a solo traveller. But keep a radar for a travel advisory if any on restrictions to travel to certain areas. Nepal has made a speedy recovery since the earthquake of 2015 and majority of its trekking circuits are open again to mountaineers and trekkers. But be wary of pickpockets and its better to take a local guide with you when you are going into the mountains or are travelling to remote regions. Q. What should I pack for a holiday to Nepal? A. Though this would largely depend on the season in which you are travelling, but Nepal in general is a cold country because it is the land of the Himalayas, and other than that a rather conservative society. You are advised to not pack anything too revealing, skimpy or short. For all the walks and the hikes your Nepal trip will entail, a suitcase should have light to medium-weight comfortable cotton clothes, a jacket, woolen cap, sweaters, walking shoes and woollen socks. The warm clothing is particularly necessary if you are visiting between October and February. Keep a scarf, a bandana or a woollen cap handy for gaining entry to religious shrines. Q. Do I need a visa to travel to Nepal? A. Indian citizens travelling to Nepal do not need a visa to enter it. Though as per Nepal’s immigration, Indian nationals must possess a passport or any of the documents of the likes of a driving license with your photo on it, a ration card, voter’s card, or any other photo identity card issued by a government agency. Q. What all places should I visit on my first trip to Nepal? A. On your first-ever holiday in Nepal, it would be ideal to incorporate Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park and Pokhara in your itinerary which would otherwise include a whole lot of hiking and trekking, rafting and a bunch of adventure activities. For a basic, all-round experience, about 5-10 days are sufficient in Nepal unless of course you are planning a multi-day trek when the length of your trip can go up to 14 days. Q. Do I need to carry my own sleeping bag for treks in Nepal? A. Though you can rent a sleeping bag in its capital, Kathmandu, which includes blankets among other gear. But it is ideal if you can bring your own light-weight sleeping bag from home; for it will save you the hassle of renting a good-quality equipment and returning it in mint condition. Q. What is ‘teahouse’ trekking? A. This means you will be lodging in a ‘teahouse’, a little mountain lodge or a local hut on every night of your trek. Such lodges are bare-bones and come with a dormitory or a warren of 5-10 rooms with a shared common area where you can eat your meals and catch up with your fellow trekkers. Usually, on teahouse treks the mountain lodges are run by the locals, and can be rented rather economically. Q. Can I travel to Nepal in the monsoon? A. The Nepal monsoon lasts between June and August when the country experiences very heavy rainfall for short spells in the day. Rains make the place wet and humid and some of the lower region treks such as those in Langtang, Ghorepani and Ghandruk, muddy and washed-out. Despite that, the monsoon are a good time to visit Nepal since the trails are less-crowded and the skies clearer. The rain-washed stone trails, in fact, become easier for trekking. Also, you can head to the upper reaches of the Everest since they lie in the Himalaya’s rain-shadow region and receive very little rain. Q. How long do treks last each day? A. On an average, you would be trekking for about 4-6 hours daily. Usually, a trek begins as early as 08:00 am and winds up between 04:00 pm and 05:00 pm, just around sunset. But the treks are not at all strenuous since you will be making several breaks along the way for tea, lunch among others. Now, the higher you go in the Everest region, smaller will be your trekking hours owing to the risk of picking up altitude sickness if you climb up too fast and for too long.

Nepal Tours, Vacations & Travel Packages

travel package nepal

Nepal is a land locked country sandwiched between India and China and divided into three geographic areas – the Himalayas (above 4000 feet/1230 metres), the Hill Region (between 1000 and 4000 feet/300 and 1230 metres) and the Central Plains, some of which can be reached on various Nepal tours.

Capturing all Nepal’s attractions in one page is not simple, although the first impression may be of a kingdom dominated by the Himalayan Mountains. It also offers glimpses of Buddhist and Hindu cultures through its architecture, customs and people. It is a deeply religious and culturally rich country with spectacular scenery.

When is the best time to book a vacation in Nepal?

With views of the mountains being a big attraction, in this case, the best time to visit Nepal is when visibility is at its best. This is between late September and late November. At this time, the weather is clear and dry and neither too hot nor cold. The monsoon, which lasts from June until mid-September, washes away any pollution and dust making the mountains very visible. The fall is also a good time to go trekking.

During the monsoon period, clouds can obscure the mountains and the rain can be a deterrent. The second best time to visit Nepal is in between February and April when the weather is warm and everything is starting to bloom. This is probably the best time to view wildlife in Chitwan National Park.

What is there to do on a trip to Nepal?

Visit kathmandu, patan, and bhaktapur.

On a Nepal tour, the capital, Kathmandu will make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Divided into three areas in the Kathmandu Valley, Kathmandu still has its centerpiece. Durbar Square still carries medieval atmosphere, having once been the home of the Nepali royal family. The Royal Palace still stands in the heart of the square surrounded by many interesting temples. Nearby Patan, across the river, has a wealth of Buddhist and Hindu temples where one can view wonderful carvings. Further away is Bhaktapur known for its woodcarvings, pottery and cloth weaving.

Climb Mount Everest

Looking to the mountains, Nepal offers the very best in trekking, mainly from Pokhara to the west of Kathmandu. Too frequently underestimated (often with tragic consequences), the Mount Everest summit is an extremely difficult and dangerous climb that should only be attempted by the most prepared and experienced climbers. Far more doable is the trek to Everest Base Camp. However, on Nepal tours, even this trek takes at least 12 days there and back. Shorter and less strenuous treks are numerous and well worth the effort. Pokhara itself is a wonderful resort-like town on beautiful Phewa Lake, surrounded by monkey-filled verdant forests.

Take a flightseeing tour over Mount Everest

There is another way to get to ‘the roof of the world.’ The one hour flightseeing tour from Kathmandu not only gives a bird’s eye view of Everest but of many other breathtaking snow-capped mountain peaks. You depart by bus from Kathmandu to the airport to board a small plane. In the air, a pilot provides a narration during the flight about the significance and the names of the various summits.

  • Trekking in Nepal

This can be done from both Kathmandu and Pokhara when on a Nepal trip and treks can be easy or strenuous depending on your interest and ability. They can be done stopping overnight at what are called Tea Houses which are basically tourist lodges, or by sleeping overnight in tents. Usually, most trekkers join a group which includes a guide, porters, and full provisions. Treks can be customized to the individual ranging from one day to much longer periods of up to at least 3 weeks. Pokhara is the more popular starting point because of the proximity of the beautiful Annapurna mountain range.

Jungle Safari at Royal Chitwan National Park

Royal Chitwan National Park is where one can undertake a jungle safari viewing the one-horned rhino, the Royal Bengal tiger, and other species of animals. Once a rampant hunting ground for Nepal’s ruling class, Chitwan National Park now features a rhinoceros sanctuary, as well as diverse ecosystems, vegetation, and fauna, including elephants, rhinoceros, tigers, leopards, deer, hundreds of bird and reptile species. Wildlife can be seen from the safety of a jeep safari, rafting tour, or on guided jungle walks. Chitwan National Park features jungle lodges as well as handicraft and souvenir shopping. With the monsoon season starting end of June till September, the most ideal time to visit Chitwan National Park on Nepal vacations is from October to May.

Most incredible experience with a great tour company My husband and I Recently went on a trip with Golden Buddha from Australia and it was absolutely incredible. Our tracking guide Rajan was professional and very caring. We received daily calls from the company leader, Dorje, to make sure everything was okay and all going to plan. The driver Bishnu was also amazing. All our needs were taken care of and all the guides made our experience unforgettable. We will be recommending them to all our family and friends - we can’t recommend them highly enough!! A truely incredible company!!

Over all excellent experience, Recommend for all types of travellers even solo. Will visit again ,Thank you Golden Buddha Team.

Excellent service, always on top of everything trying to made feels everyone please and save Offer all choice until you are satisfied 5 star to them

My wife, mother and I travelled to Nepal. The trip was well organized by Jyoti Lama and Mr. Dorje was kind enough to call us and check almost every day, as to how the day was. Special thanks to Karma our driver, who really made our journey a memorable one. He not only acted as a Guide but accompanied us to all the places where there was a need to talk to people in local language. I highly recommend Golden Buddha Tours and Travels.
