• TagPro : This is a simple, but competitive game. You and your teammates spawn as red or blue circles who are fighting for neutral or team flags – depending on which map you spawn on. It essentially boils down to capturing the flag – just don’t get popped (tagged) when you’re the flag carrier!

Card Battle Games

If you’re anywhere near my age or younger, you likely have played with Pokémon Trading Cards or Magic the Gathering.

There are a couple of browser-based games that have this same game concept in mind. 

Obtain cards, build decks, and dominate the competition. And yes, Pokémon is one of them!

Online Role-Playing Games

You may or may not be familiar with online role-playing games – but there are TONS of them. Create a character or avatar and start leveling up and exploring the game’s open world. 

There are no “levels” in these games, but an open world you can explore.

I won’t go through each one on this list (there’s a lot here!), but there’s a different type of game available. 

Horror? Science Fiction? Fantasy? Superhero? Zombie? Vampire? Space Fighters? Yep… all available website-based games and many more!

If webcomics are your thing, then you have to be familiar with Cyanide and Happiness—one of the most popular and funniest webcomics out there.

There's a new webcomic every day, but you can also head on over to the website and press the question mark button over and over again to view random comics.

Hyperbole and a Half is a Blogger blog that was created by Allie Brosh, a young woman with a talent for telling her left story through detailed Microsoft Paint drawings. She says her blog is not really a webcomic, but it’s not really a blog either.

Whatever it is, it’s a wonderfully colorful and comedic site to browse through. If you love whimsical drawings of dogs, rainbows and other things, then you're bound to really fall in love with this one.

According to the site's slogan, Cracked is “America’s Only Humor Site Since 1958.” Cracked is famous for its timeless list posts. Columnists and contributing writers craft witty, funny articles on topics ranging from history to TV & movies to internet tech.

It has a hilariously creative video section as well. Although it's a bit less reliant on visual content compared to some of the other sites on this list, the articles on Cracked are well worth reading and sharing again and again.

The FAIL blog has been around for much longer than a lot of these other sites have, and thanks to its great content, it's still going strong. Part of the I Can Has Cheezburger network, Fail Blog is a site that is most known for its humorous pictures depicting disastrous and often stupid situations.

All photos have the caption “FAIL” included somewhere on the photo. Fail Blog incorporates video into their site in addition to photos.

Whether you’re stuck inside or just plain bored and need to take a break at work, you could probably use some weird internet distractions. Granted, you could always dive into the depths of YouTube and end up trying to learn how to talk to giraffes. But maybe you already tried that? At any rate, if you’re in need of some entertainment right now, we spent some time exploring the corners of the internet to find some quirky stuff. Here are the most interesting websites we came across.

Interesting Websites

1. the library of babel.

This website is pretty nutty. Pretty much anything that has ever been written and ever will be written is here on this website. Up to a certain character limit. Regardless you could find that weird speech or presentation you once gave in high school here–complete with all of your ums and uhs. 

It also means the first thing you ever read and the last thing you will ever read are stored on this site. So it’s also a pretty hefty existential crisis.

2. Just in case you need to search something…

There is always Google, but what about the weird things you can do with or to Google?

3. Death By Caffeine

This website will calculate (calculatte?), based on your weight, how much of a given caffeinated beverage you can drink before it kills you. It’s probably important to know how much caffeine you can drink, right? Anyway, we’re pretty sure we’ve breached the limit multiple times, and… We’re still kicking so we guess it’s okay.

4. Hacker Typer

This site is useful for many things. It just displays random code fragments as you hit keys. Mostly useful for messing with people; but if you’re making any short films, maybe you can poke around here?

5. Do Nothing For 2 Minutes

Yes, this website is exactly what it sounds like. The point is literally doing nothing for two straight minutes! Sometimes you just have to take a break. This is a good relaxation tool for some and a great way to get super bored for others. Take your pick.

6. The Longest List of the Longest Stuff

No, this list will not be as long as this list. But it’s pretty neat to see the longest things that exist, no?

7. The Restart Page

This is a catalogue of all the old-timey restart pages. We’re not sure what use you would get out of this, but we’re pretty sure it’ll help you with some trivia related to software down the road.

8. Sad Trombone

It’s just a huge button that plays the sad trombone sound. Nothing that useful, but we like to keep it on standby to make fun of people around the office.

9. Big Messages

It takes messages and makes them really big. What else could you ask for?

10. Color Matcher

This website will give you a color wheel and you have to match the colors. It’s both easier and harder than it sounds. 

11. What If the Moon Was Only One Pixel?

This website will very much answer that question. You can also scroll through the entire solar system to scale if the moon were one pixel! 

Turns out it’s a heck of a lot of scrolling.

12. Bedtime Calculator

For those of us who have no discipline. If you click this link you’ll be taken to a portal that will try calculating how much sleep you’ll get if you go to bed at any time. It’s not an exact science, but perhaps you’ll find something useful here.

13. Pokemon Fusion

We’re not sure why you would want to create some of the monstrosities this website generates. But you can very much make words out of Pokemon names and generate some weird stuff. 

14. Fruit Ninja, But With a Keyboard

Remember playing fruit ninja back on like the iPhone 3? Well we’ve graduated to the desktop, and now it’s… a lot harder.

15. This Person Does Not Exist

This website uses an AI to generate a face that doesn’t exist. Kind of eerie when you think about it.

16. Ultimate Tic Tac Toe

If you’ve got a friend, here you go. Tic Tac Toe’s all grown up now.

17. Chilling Vibes

Something stressing you out, too much on your mind? This website is supposed to give you some really chill vibes!

18. Ambient Noise Generator

Exactly what it sounds like, you’ll be getting some ambient noise to relax to! Maybe chilling vibes just weren’t your thing.

19. Dead Colors

This is just a list of all the colors whose hexadecimal code contains the word “dead.” You’re very much still allowed to use these colors in your paintings or whatever.

20. Super Planet Crash

You get to simulate a solar system with some celestial bodies. Make sure you don’t break everything. But we’re pretty sure you will.

22. Ikea Name Generator

It generates dumb names for hypothetical Ikea products. It’s dumb and fun, hopefully you get a giggle out of it.

Jurassic Systems

Few movies have made as profound an impact on pop culture as Steven Spielberg’s seminal 1993 dino-romp Jurassic Park. The epic adventure spawned a long-running film franchise (including one of 2022’s biggest pictures), and references from the original film are part of the language of millennial culture.

In the movie, there’s a sequence where Samuel L. Jackson’s character Ray Arnold attempts to hack Dennis Nedry’s computer system. With Jurassic Systems, you’re able to roleplay as Ray Arnold as you try to break into the extremely 90s computer system.

This website is a good bit of fun, delivering a healthy dose of nostalgia to your day. And while you try to figure out how to access the main program grid, remember to say the magic word — otherwise you’ll get the dreaded animation of Dennis wagging his finger at you.

TV Tropes is a website that catalogs and describes various conventions and devices (or “tropes”) found within creative works such as novels, movies, comics, and television shows. If you’ve ever thought “why do so many TV shows have this plot point in common?” you’ll find a lot of value in the analysis from this site.

TV Tropes includes a wide variety of trope examples, including plot devices, character archetypes, themes, and much more. And they tend to get extremely specific. For instance, have you heard of “Flanderization?” It’s when one personality trait of a TV character gets more and more pronounced as the show goes on, to the point where it seems to become the one and only defining trait. It’s named after the character Ned Flanders, from The Simpsons.

Once you’re hooked, you’ll find yourself spending a lot of your free time reading various entries on TV Tropes. It’s both fun and illuminating! 

Radio Garden

If you’ve ever wondered what the radio sounds like in Paris, Buenos Aires, or Beirut, this is the website for you. Radio Garden greets you with a three-dimensional globe that you can rotate with your pointer, and once you select a location, the site’s built-in radio player will immediately play a live radio feed from the area you’ve selected. It’s intriguing, and something you could easily spend hours poking around in.

The site is a non-profit Dutch radio and digital research project developed by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, the Transnational Radio Knowledge Platform, and five European universities. And you won’t just find music — Radio Garden also showcases talk radio, podcasts, live comedy, and various odd feeds that make the project that much more fascinating.

Find the Invisible Cow

Find the Invisible Cow is a simple web-based game where players have to find an invisible cow hidden on the webpage. It’s sort of like "Marco Polo" — you’re guided by audio that goes from a soft murmur to a loud scream, getting louder as you approach the invisible cow. 

When you find the cow, it’ll appear and make a mooing sound. The game is timed, and the player's score is based on how fast they can find the invisible cow. Once you find the cow 5 times, the game lets you find a goat. You’ll have to find the goat about 45 more times before you get to the final animal — so you might be here awhile. 

Find the Invisible Cow is free to play and can be accessed through any web browser. It is a simple and entertaining game that’ll help pass the time, and is the perfect break from work.
