How to watch the Tour Down Under 2024 | Global options for live TV, streaming and highlights

Stages, start times and viewing options for the men's and women's WorldTour racing opener

The Tour Down Under is back for 2024 and here's how you can catch all of the action live on TV, streaming online or on catch-up.

The traditional season-opener for pro road racing started on Friday 12 January for the women and finished on Sunday 14 January.

The men's racing started on Tuesday 16 January and continues through to Sunday 21 January.

How can I watch the Tour Down Under 2024 live in the UK?

Eurosport will once again be showing live coverage of the Tour Down Under. As usual with racing in Australia, it’s one for the insomniacs if you want to watch live in the UK – the men’s stages start at various times throughout the week between 12 and 1am.

As usual, there’s an on-demand option if you value your shut-eye.

Eurosport is a part of Discovery , with a subscription costing £6.99 per month. It’s available on a range of platforms, including tablets, mobile, TV with Chromecast or AirPlay, Android TV and Apple TV.

How can I watch the Tour Down Under 2024 live in the US?

According to the Tour Down Under website, NBC Sports and its streaming service PeacockTV should be showing live coverage of the Tour Down Under, although there are no cycling events currently showing as scheduled on the NBC Sports site.

You can also watch the Tour Down Under on FloBikes , with subscription options costing from $12.49 a month.

Both offer on-demand replays, although US live racing times are a bit more user-friendly than in Europe, with typical stage starts at 7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific.

How can I watch the Tour Down Under 2024 live in Australia?

Seven West Media is broadcasting the Tour Down Under in Australia, accessed via the 7plus streaming service . You can find the full list of broadcast times for each stage online.

2024 Women’s Tour Down Under schedule

The 2024 Women's Tour Down Under has now finished, with Sarah Gigante of AG Insurance-Soudal taking overall victory atop Willunga Hill.

2024 Men’s Tour Down Under schedule and stage profiles

Unlike 2023, there wasn't a prologue stage this year, but there is an additional sixth stage thrown in for good measure to test the legs.

This year sees both Willunga and Mount Lofty feature in the Santos Tour Down Under together for the first time, both on the weekend. Although climbing legs will be compulsory for the final two stages, the first four stages are aimed at the sprinters.

- Mike Turtur, Race Director: "The design of our race is a unique feature of the event and this year we have three days for both the sprinters and the all-rounders.  We’re going back to Paracombe and will climb Willunga Hill again for the finale in Be Safe Be Seen Stage 6 but also have a fast race set for today in the Barossa and we’ll challenge the peloton with a return to Stirling.  We recognise that circuit racing gives people the opportunity to see the race multiple times and really does allow the full colour of the race to be presented to spectators. - Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) won the 2020 Men's Tour Down Under Schwalbe Classic.  Said Ewan post-race: "I started this season, I think, with a bit of pressure to replicate what I did last year or try to grow my wins on top of that. This is my first race of the season, usually, I’ve done some races before but I felt really good out there. I was pretty relaxed for the first half sitting down the back and then when I needed to go, I got up into position and that was it.

- Simona Frapporti (BePink) won Stage 4.  Ruth Winder (Trek-Segafredo) wins the 2020 Women's Tour Down Under.  Frapporti following her stage win said: "It’s always nice to win on the first stage race of the year. Coming from Italy, we were behind the locals in terms of condition but I was feeling very well today. So I took my chance. I’m sure my two brothers [Marco and Mattia Frapporti] who are professional cyclists too will be happy to hear that I’m a winner today. It’s important to start an Olympic year with a victory. It’s perfect for the confidence."

- Ruth Winder following her overall victory in the 2020 Women's TDU: "It feels pretty crazy to win the Santos Tour Down Under. Team Sunweb and Mitchelton-SCOTT really put us under pressure. I’m really happy to pull it off. I’m still really excited after the stage I won yesterday. It’s such an incredible feeling. It’s not a single person’s sport. For every win, you need a strong team. I wish my team-mates could accompany me on the podium."

- Ruth Winder (Trek-Segafredo) won Stage 3 and took over the lead on G.C.  Winder had this to say after the stage: "My teammate Tayler Wiles, she was just leading me out perfectly. I was talking to her the whole time, we’ve been teammates for years and she’s helped me with so many wins, so every time I do I feel so grateful for her in the last 500 metres. The whole team the entire race was really active at the front covering things, making sure I was really safe until the circuits, which were pretty hard with Mitchelton-SCOTT destroying it on the times pretty much."

- Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott) won Stage 2 and is new overall leader.  Spratt post-stage: "Very, very, very excited. We had a solid team plan today, we knew it could be really hard in the final if we made it that way, and that’s exactly what we did. The girls did it perfectly into the climb, Lucy [Kennedy] did her job in the climb and split it into a group of five – we had three and five – and then we knew we just had to make it hard after that. I’m really excited that I could win that sprint in the end. After a great team effort it’s the best way to win."

- Chloe Hosking (Rally Cycling) won Stage 1 of the women's race and is first leader in the general classification.  Said Hosking post-stage: "I am just so proud of the girls, it's our first race all together but you wouldn't know it on the road. They were always there, when there was trouble in the wind they were rolling, and they did exactly what we planned in the finish which was just to keep the speed high and keep me out of trouble...we committed to our plan and we executed it."

The Tour Down Under is (Finally!) Back for 2023—Here’s How to Watch

The 2023 pro cycling road racing season officially kicks off with the return of the Tour Down Under, and we’re ready.

What is even more exciting is that the women’s race, even though only three stages to the men’s five stages plus a prologue , will be part of the UCI WorldTour for the first time, making the Tour Down Under women’s race the first UCI Women’s WorldTour stage race in the southern hemisphere. Like, ever.

The women’s and men's races both unofficially kick off with a race before the race, when the riders line up for the curtain-raising circuit race on January 14th.

When is the 2023 Santos Tour Down Under happening?

The women's race runs from January 15-17 followed by the men’s race on January 17-22, 2023.

Missing road racing? Good news! The offseason doldrums are coming to a close with the return of the Santos Tour Down Under this weekend. Here’s how you can watch all the racing from Australia, wherever in the world you are, live on TV and streaming.

Started in 1999, the race returns for its 24th edition (it wasn’t held in 2021 and 2022 due to Covid-19) as the kick-off of the WorldTour calendar. The women’s event started in 2016 and is now in its seventh edition. It is also ranked as a top-level UCI Women’s WorldTour race.  

Racing begins with the three-stage women’s race Friday, January 12, followed by the six-stage men’s race Tuesday, January 16.

The 2023 season will, some say, begin at the Tour Down Under and both female and male pelotons will travel down to Australia for some early-year good weather and a prestigious race that distributes many points aswell.

The men’s cycling World Tour kicks off in Australia on January 16, 2024 with the Tour Down Under. First run in 1999 it gained World Tour status in 2008 to guarantee it attracts a field stacked with talent to do battle on the sun-parched roads of South Australia.

Held in the state capital Adelaide at the peak of the Australian summer, the race's six stages feature a mix of terrain but it's likely to be the final two that decide the outcome. The summit finishes of Willunga Hill on Stage 5 and Mount Lofty on Stage 6 will be key to deciding who gets to keep the leader's Ochra Jersey. Although both climbs have been used before this is the first time they have been used in the same edition of the race. 

With last year’s winner Jay Vine opting not to defend his title there will be a new name on the trophy this year and the favourites are likely to come from the home team, Jayco-AlUla. With former Vuelta winner Simon Yates and new signing and 2023 Australian Champ Luke Plapp, they will be the force to beat. 

They will also be the team to beat on the race’s opening four flatter stages with their other new signing, another Australian, Caleb Ewen going for the win in the sprints. 

Other big names to look out for are the twin Time trial specialists from Ineos, Filippo Ganna and Josh Tarling. The mercurial Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe, Kiwi, Finn Fisher-Black and the Aussies Sam Welsford and Matt Dinham.

The race, as expected came down to the final climb of Mount Lofty but with so many riders so close the winner was far from decided. The stage started with the largest break of the week being allowed to escape with seven riders going up the road but they were never given much rope with their lead capped at around 3 minutes. Behind the teams of the leader Stephen Williams (Israel-Premier Tech), and yesterday’s stage winner Oscar Onley controlled the peloton , shepherding their leaders to the big finale. 

The first two ascents of the steady climb wore the legs down of both break and peloton then hitting the base for the final time the heat was well and truly on. The break managed to survive until 3 kilometres to go then it was the early race leader Isaac Del Torro who took up the pace and ripped the front apart. Taking a group of 4 with him including the leader Williams this was the decisive move. Del Torro opened up the sprint but it was Williams who triumphed taking both the stage win and the overall race win.

Tour Down Under 2024: Key details

The Tour Down Under 2024 is traditionally the opening event of the UCI WorldTour and women's WorldTour season. The inaugural race was in 1999, and the women's in 2016, to strengthen Australia's sporting calendar. 

Six stages for the men and three for the women feature various parcours from flat to hilly. In 2018, the race became the first professional cycling event in the world to offer equal prize money to men and women.

Leaders of the four classifications: General Classification, Sprint, Queen of the Mountain and Young Rider's, gets to wear a jersey to highlight the achievement. The GC, or overall leader's, jersey is ochre, the Sprint blue, Queen of the Mountain polka dot and Young Rider's white. The rider wearing each of these jerseys at the end of the final stage is crowned the overall winner of each classification.

Tones and I Announces Australia & New Zealand Tour

The chart-topping aussie artist brings her headline tour down under later this year.

Tones and I is bringing her headline tour down under this year, following her win at the 2024 Shure Rolling Stone Australia Awards . 

The chart-topping Aussie artist will kick off her shows in Sydney before heading to Newcastle, Auckland, Brisbane, Townsville, Fremantle, and Melbourne this August and September (see full dates below). 

Tickets go on sale to the public on Monday, April 15th at 12pm local time. Known for her mega hits “Dance Monkey” and “Fly Away”, Tones and I recently wrapped up a 20-date stadium tour supporting P!nk across Australia and New Zealand. Now, she’s making her big return as a headliner, marking three years since her last headline tour on our shores.

There’s no denying the fact that Tones and I has had an absolutely stellar few years. Her breakout “Dance Monkey” saw her become the first female artist to reach three billion streams on Spotify with one song, and has held a spot in the “Top 10 Most-Streamed Songs of All-Time on Spotify”. While her debut, Welcome to the Madhouse , toppled the Australian Chart at #1 in 2021.

At the 2024 Shure Rolling Stone Australia Awards , The Rolling Stone Global Award went to Tones and I ahead of Vacations, Tame Impala, Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan, and more.

In her acceptance speech, the one-time Rolling Stone AU/NZ cover star said: “Thank you so much. I’d like to thank my team for all the support. Wow, this is an incredible award to win, up against such an icon in Kylie Minogue who helped pave the way for women in pop music on a global scale.”

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the potentially pivotal third stage of the 2023 Tour Down Under!

We're just moments away from the start of what could be a stage that decides the GC. It's a relatively short one at 117km, but it packs a punch with three of Adelaide’s toughest climbs, Norton Summit, Checker Hill and Corkscrew Road.

It's going to be a huge stage for the GC contenders with three big climbs on tap. Rohan Dennis (TJV) is leading the race by 3 seconds ahead of Jay Vine (UAD). Third is Magnus Sheffield (IGD), who is also the best young rider, sitting at 12 seconds. 

The race is still riding through neutral before race director Stuart O'Grady waves the flag for the official start. 

As soon as the flag drops, the peloton will be climbing toward Norton Summit for the next seven kilometres. 

And we're away and racing! No attacks from the start, but the big teams are already at the front. 

We have a move from EF Education-Eastpost's Mikkel Honore. He's up the road along, with no response from the peloton. 

Honore is the first to attack at on stage 3 of the Tour Down Under.

Honore has some help from Astana's Fabio Felline who just bridged across to join the EF Education Easypost rider. They have a gap of 1'44" with 108.7km to go.

102km to go

We've reached the top of the first classified climb and Honore got over line first to scoop up 7 points. Felline was second for 5 and Plapp took third for 3 points. 

With that three points, Plapp is now virtually tied with Jay Vine for the KOM jersey.

The gap has catapulted up to 3'30" with Jumbo Visma at the helm of the peloton.  

Jumbo Visma seem to be happy to let the duo up the road to gain even more time, as the gap is teetering close to four minutes with 94km to go.

We're now on the approach to Lobethal where the riders will cross the first intermediate sprint. Caleb Ewan is leading the points competition, with time bonuses also on offer, it will be interesting to see if any GC contenders have a go at it. 

It's 22 degrees out there at the moment, pretty perfect conditions for a bike race. The leaders are still working well together and trading pulls. 

Felline was the first over the line at the intermediate sprint, followed, of course, by Honore. Kaden Groves was third out of the peloton. 

The peloton is getting serious with the tempo rising, however we have a way to go before the second intermediate sprint, which comes in the next 20km.

Now Jumbo Visma is getting some help from Alpecin Fenix at the front of the peloton.

The gap is holding at 3'39" to the two riders off the front. The tempo is steady in the pack. 

We're halfway through today's stage, soon they'll be on a long descent into Williamston and the intermediate sprint. 

The riders will see plenty of these signs along the Tour Down Under routes this week. It's truly a unique part of what makes this race special. 

Felline took the second intermediate sprint once again, with Honore taking second.

The gap has gone way down to 1'35" as the kilometres tick down. We're getting down to business as the race passes the 50km to go point. 

It's 1'12 to the break and more teams are coming to the front as they think about positioning on the final two climbs. 

The duo is just inside a minute ahead of the peloton. The catch might be made on or before Checker Hill. 

Moscon and Basso, two Astana riders, have taken a tumble together. Moscon looks like he's really nursing his shoulder. Oftentimes that means a collarbone injury, but that's yet to be confirmed. 

We're climbing up Checker Hill and Ethan Hayter (Ineos) is showing signs of struggle. He's hanging on the back of the peloton as others start to lose contact. 

Honore takes the max points on Checker Hill ahead of Felline. Hindley was third just ahead of Yates. 

Honore is the only rider off the front after Checker Hill with a 30 second gap. Felline is back in the peloton.

Several big names have dropped off the back of the peloton during the climb on Checker Hill including Geraint Thomas and Miles Scotson.

Honore has taken the virtual lead of the KOM competition at 17 points with the Corkscrew climb left to go. Felline is second with 11 points. 

The peloton is on their way toward the famous Corkscrew climb. It's mostly downhill until the hit the base with 5.8km to go to the finish.

We've just had a crash with Corbin Strong and Harrison Wood involved. Chris Froome was at the side fixing his bike, but we're not sure if he went down.

We're just 9km away from the start of the climb, and 17km until the end of the race.

The peloton is flying down the descent before the turn onto Corkscrew Road. 

There isn't much time left to improve positioning in the peloton before the fireworks start. It's now or never to move up. 

Simon Yates is up near the front looking dangerous. Jay Vine is also there. Ben O'Connor, who's looking for a stage win, is sitting second wheel behind his teammates. 

The Corkscrew is relatively short at 2.4km, but the average gradient is a stinging 9 percent. 

Rohan Dennis is in trouble already. He was caught out of position at the base and can't keep the pace with the climbers. 

Jay Vine is the first to attack on the climb, and Simon Yates is swiftly on his wheel. 

Pello Bilbao has bridged across to Yates and Vine as the near the top. 

The three best climbers of the race have pulled away on this climb. Vine gets over the top first and takes the max KOM points, Yates follows.

Yates, Vine and Bilbao are ahead of a reduced peloton by 15 seconds with 5.4km to go. 

The three leaders are trading turns as they make their way down the descent toward the finish in Campbelltown. 

Just 2km to go and the three off the front are working well. 

Now 1km to go. We're on the edge of the city and Vine moves to the front to get as much time as possible.

Vine leads it out and Pello Bilbao wins the sprint against Yates! Jay Vine will take the ochre jersey off the back of Rohan Dennis. 

Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) outsprints Simon Yates (Jayco-Alula) to take the win on stage 3 of the Santos Tour Down Under. Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) finished third and moves into the ochre jersey.

Rohan Dennis' stage derailed after an unfortunately timed bike change, costing him the ochre jersey. “The gears just stopped working. I was stuck in one gear and I thought that’s probably not smart for the last 40km,” Rohan Dennis told  Cyclingnews  just past the finish line.
