wwe tour of india

Last night (July 31), WWE revealed they’ll hold their first-ever show in Hyderabad, India on Fri., Sept. 9. With the usual “card subject to change” caveat, the talent listed for second-ever Superstar Spectacle consists of members of the Raw roster and the company’s Indian talent.

Here’s the announcement:

STAMFORD, Conn., August 1, 2023 – WWE today announced its long-awaited return to India with WWE Superstar Spectacle at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium (Gachibowli Indoor Stadium), Hyderabad, India, on Friday, September 8, 2023. This will mark the first live event to take place in India since 2017 and the first-ever WWE live event to be held in Hyderabad. Tickets for WWE Superstar Spectacle at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium (Gachibowli Indoor Stadium) will be available from 12:00 PM IST this Friday, August 4, 2023 at www.bookmyshow.com . Fans interested in joining an early presale from 12:00 PM IST this Thursday, August 3, can register now via the BookMyShow app and website. Sony Sports Network is the home of WWE in India including WWE’s flagship programming Raw, SmackDown, NXT and WWE’s Premium Live Events including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Royal Rumble and more – showcased on Sony Sports Ten 1 (English), Sony Sports Ten 3 (Hindi) and Sony Sports Ten 4 (Tamil & Telugu). For more information visit www.sonysportsnetwork.com . WWE Superstar Spectacle in India is produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live, the live entertainment experiential division of BookMyShow, India’s leading entertainment destination. *Talent subject to change

Despite the brand name and information about WWE’s television/streaming partners in the region, this looks to be a house show and not an international PLE like Backlash or Money in the Bank .

It will be WWE’s first show in India in almost six years. Many wrestling fans remember the 2017 tour of event in India, as it was reportedly the justification for Jinder Mahal’s title reign (he would drop the belt before the trip, and lose to Triple H at the show in Delhi). In January of 2021, the company held the first Superstar Spectacle to celebrate India’s Republic Day holiday — but that was held at the Performance Center in Orlando due to pandemic restrictions.

Now they’ll be back, looking to put smiles on Indian faces as they continue to try to capitalize on a huge market.

How a wwe trip to india left william regal with a heart parasite, explained.

In 2002, William Regal contracted a heart parasite during a WWE tour of India. He got sick after that and didn't wrestle again for a year.

Quick Links

William regal contracted a heart parasite during wwe's tour of india, william regal continued to wrestle even as he felt worse, william regal was told that he would never wrestle again.

In fall of 2002, WWE toured India, running a three date event. By the numbers, the tour was pretty successful, drawing in good numbers and producing a couple of excellent matches. Kane and Chris Jericho were the main draws for the shows, often main-eventing, but another notable name on the tour was veteran William Regal .

RELATED: 14 Worst Wrestling Injuries (That Shouldn't Have Happened)

William Regal worked two tag-team matches with his partner Lance Storm. On the first day of the tour, Regal and Storm faced off against the Dudley Boys. On the second show, Regal served as the co-main-event alongside Kane, and on the last day, Regal and Storm beat the team of Al Snow and Tommy Dreamer.

Once the tour was over, it was back to business in the United States and with WrestleMania season around the corner , William Regal was slated to be a part of the show, defending the tag-team titles against the team of Rob Van Dam and Kane. Unfortunately, Regal was sidelined due to a life-threatening illness, and not only did he miss WrestleMania, he was out for more than a year and came very close to dying, as per his own admission. During his tour of India, William Regal contracted a heart parasite, but it wasn't diagnosed until months after.

In his autobiography, Walking a Golden Mile , Regal mentioned that he started feeling a little ill during the Indian tour, but he shrugged it off and worked every event. Once he was in the United States, he continued his program with Lance and enjoyed working alongside him. He was working hard and enjoying the storyline, but something felt off. Regal was not getting enough sleep and at times he would stay up all night. The company had two more overseas tours booked in South Korea and Japan, and Regal was a part of both.

In addition to his sleep problems, Regal also noticed that his heartbeat had sped up a lot. The angle with Kane and RVD was still going on and at No Way Out, Regal and Storm, tag-team champions, were set to defend their belts against the unlikely tag-team. On the evening of the PPV, Regal noticed that his abdomen, legs, and ankles were swelling up. Despite this, he went on to compete but during the middle of the match, a freak accident led to Regal being legitimately knocked out .

A simple slam from Kane resulted in Regal being knocked unconscious. As a testament to his toughness, he was woken up by the referee and still completed the match, despite the swelling and the concussion. Regal was given a week off after this, but he was swelling up even more, to the point that he was weighing 265 pounds. That was more than twenty pounds his usual weight, and this abnormal weight gain finally got Regal to find a doctor.

RELATED: 5 Things To Expect From William Regal’s Return To WWE (& 5 Things That Won’t Happen)

At first, the doctors did not know what was going on with him. He was sent to a gastroenterologist as his lower intestines were barely functioning but when he got in contact with a doctor from Atlanta who specialized in infectious diseases, Regal was told that a parasite had taken over his heart and digestive system and that he needed to get to a hospital as soon as possible.

When Regal went into the hospital, he found out that, in addition to the parasite infection, he was also suffering from congestive heart failure, the reason why his body was swelling up with blood. Now that he knew what was going on, Regal went in for the appropriate procedure, and he was cleared to go home within a week. After this health scare, Regal was told by the doctors that his wrestling career was over, and he could only do short walks in the meantime.

The folks in WWE thought so as well because one he was back at home, Regal received a phone-call from John Laurinaitis asking whether he would like to work as a road agent. And while Regal did work as a road agent for a little while, he was back to training, squatting 500 pounds and doing 200 push-ups like it was no problem. After getting himself checked by a top cardiologist, Regal was given the clear to perform. After one year of health issues, William Regal was back on television.

WWE WrestleMania 40 -- Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes: Night 2 card, rumors, matches, start time, location, date

This year's wrestlemania is halfway home after an epic first night of action in philadelphia.

We have arrived to the biggest wrestling event of the year. WrestleMania 40 is set for Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday and this year's event truly has some old-school heat to it.

The biggest match of the weekend sees WWE universal champion Roman Reigns rematch Cody Rhodes in the main event of Night 2 as Rhodes looks to "finish the story" after coming up short a year ago. Reigns will be at a clear advantage in the match after he and The Rock defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on Night 1, clearing the way for the match to be under "Bloodline Rules." That means anything goes, with much expectation on The Rock, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso trying to interfere and keep the title with the "Tribal Chief."

Rollins, meanwhile, has his own problems to deal with as the world heavyweight champion will put his title on the line against a red-hot Drew McIntyre. Plus, CM Punk, who made his return at the Royal Rumble only to suffer an injury, will be on the commentary for the match and likely to play a factor. Plus, the WWE women's championship is on the line when Iyo Sky takes on Bayley. Sky and her Damage CTRL cohorts kicked Bayley out of the group she helped form and now Bayley looks to exact her revenge. The final title match on Sunday sees United States champion Logan Paul forced to defend his title against two opponents when he takes on Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.

Plus, there's always a surprise or two along the way where legends return or celebrities make an appearance.

Let's take a look at the full WrestleMania 40 card, which streams live on Peacock on April 7 beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Note: these are not the official match order for each night, simply a list of which matches will take place on each day.

2024 WWE WrestleMania 40 Night 2 matches

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship -- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes:  For the second consecutive year, it's Reigns vs. Rhodes at WrestleMania. After winning the Royal Rumble again, Rhodes made it clear he was coming for Reigns to "finish the story." That plan was sidelined when Rhodes stepped aside and handed the Reigns match over to The Rock. Fan backlash to the idea of Rhodes' two-year-long story was strong and it appears that pushed WWE to pivot back to Rhodes getting his match with Reigns. At the WrestleMania 40 kickoff, Reigns and Rock celebrated their upcoming match, with Rock suddenly on good terms with Reigns. Rhodes interrupted, said he got to make the decision, not Reigns, and said he was coming after the Tribal Chief. The Rock later announced Rhodes would never again receive an undisputed WWE universal title shot if he lost to Reigns.

WWE Women's Championship -- Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley:  Bayley was the winner of this year's women's Royal Rumble. Now, she faces one of her former Damage CTRL teammates in Sky. Despite creating Damage CTRL, Bayley had been on the outs with the group for quite some time. While Bayley hinted at challenging Rhea Ripley for the women's world title, Nia Jax stepped in and scared her off, leading to Bayley challenging Sky and fighting off all of Damage CTRL.

United States Championship -- Logan Paul (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens: Paul is going to have his hands full. The U.S. champion shunned SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis for failing to find him a WrestleMania opponent, so Aldis found him two. Paul will defend his title in a triple-threat match against Orton and Owens. The social media influencer has long had issues with Owens. Paul got on Orton's bad side after costing him a world title opportunity at WrestleMania by laying him out with brass knuckles at the Elimination Chamber.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles: The rivalry between Knight and Styles has been simmering ever since Styles returned to action in December. Styles took issue with Knight's rise to stardom, which coincided with Styles' hiatus at the hands of The Bloodline. Styles accused Knight of stepping over his cold body and taking everything that he was entitled to. Styles cost Knight a world heavyweight title match at the Elimination Chamber. Knight has been on a manhunt ever since. Knight laid out the challenge to Styles on the March 15 episode of SmackDown. Styles accepted with a steel chair to the back.

The Final Testament (Karrion Kross & Authors of Pain) vs. Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) (Philadelphia Street Fight): The two factions have been brawling for months. The Final Testament cost Street Profits a spot in the undisputed tag team title six-pack ladder match at WrestleMania. Kross berated Lashley for letting his pride get in the way of his pupils' success and boasted about crushing Street Profits' WrestleMania dreams. WWE announced a Philadelphia Street Fight between the two factions, an appropriate way to end their long-running feud.

World Heavyweight Championship -- Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre:  McIntyre has been on fire of late, taking issue with anyone and everyone who questions his methods. Those methods have involved increasingly opportunistic behavior as he looks to become a world champion once again. McIntyre took advantage of yet another situation when an already-eliminated Logan Paul knocked out Randy Orton with brass knuckles in the Elimination Chamber, allowing McIntyre to score the pin and punch his ticket to a match with Rollins at WrestleMania.

The India vs Australia Test series is scheduled to start on 06 April.

As the Paris Olympics 2024 are fast approaching, the Indian men’s hockey team is preparing for a Hockey Test series 2024 of warm-up matches from April 6 to April 13 in Australia. Hockey India’s tour to Australia in 2024 will feature India, currently ranked world no. 5, facing Australia in a five-match test series. The tour will conclude on April 13th.

The series in Australia will be crucial for preparation, as they will take on the defending Commonwealth Games Champion, Australia, in Perth, from April 6 to April 13, 2024.

This will be team India’s first competition since their participation in the Men’s FIH Pro League 2023-24 Indian leg. The Men in Blue currently stand third in the Pro League standings. The Indian team won two matches against Ireland and one match against Spain, lost one match to Australia, and four matches ended in a draw. Their final match was a high-scoring victory (4-0) against Ireland.

Harmanpreet Singh will lead a 27-member Indian team representing the country on the tour to Australia. Hardik, who was awarded the FIH Player of the Year in 2023, has been named the deputy captain once again.

Araijeet Singh Hundal and Boby Singh Dhami have been included in the team, thanks to their outstanding performances at the Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2023.

Indian men’s hockey team secured a spot for the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning a gold medal at the Asian Games in 2022. In the previous Olympics in Tokyo, the Indian team ended a 41-year medal drought by defeating Germany 5-4 to win the bronze medal.
