Australian Visa Information
Unless you are an Australian citizen, you will need a valid Australian visa to enter the country. New Zealand passport holders can apply for a visa upon arrival in the country. All other passport holders, regardless of age, must apply for a visa before leaving home. You can apply for a range of Australian visa types, including tourist visas and working holiday visas, via the ETA app or on the Department of Home Affairs website.
There are different Australian visa types available for travellers to Australia. Knowing which Australian visa to apply for depends on the length of your stay, your passport and the purpose of your visit. You’ll also need to meet certain financial and medical requirements, be outside of Australia when applying and maintain health insurance for the duration of your stay.
Electronic Travel Authority visa (subclass 601) This visa allows you to visit Australia as many times as you want, for up to a year, and stay for three months each visit. This visa is available to passport holders from a number of countries and regions, who live outside Australia. A step-by-step guide on how to apply is here .
All ETA-eligible passport holders must apply for an ETA using the Australian ETA app. Agents can assist you in the application process, but you must be physically present as a live facial image is required.
eVisitor (subclass 651) This is a free visa for multiple visits to Australia for tourism or business purposes for up to three months at a time within a 12-month period. This visa is available to passport holders from a number of European countries and it cannot be extended.
Visitor visa (subclass 600) The Visitor visa allows you to visit Australia, either for tourism or business purposes. It is open to all nationalities. Generally, a period of stay of up to three months is granted, but up to 12 months may be granted in certain circumstances. Applicants will have to pay a fee to submit their application.
The application process may differ depending on which visa you need.
You can only apply for the Electronic Travel Authority visa (subclass 601) through the Australian ETA app. A step-by-step guide on how to apply is located here .
For other visas, you can apply online by creating an ImmiAccount and completing the application process. Be sure to submit your application well in advance of your travel date to allow enough time for processing. You may be asked to provide further supporting information. You will be notified in writing if your tourist visa is approved and it will be digitally linked to your passport. For more information on different visa types, and Australian visa requirements including how to apply for an Australian visa, visit the Department of Home Affairs website.
If you are already in Australia and hold a valid Electronic Travel Authority visa (subclass 601) you can extend your stay by applying for another visa, such as a Visitor visa (subclass 600). An eVisitor (subclass 651) cannot be extended.
See the Department of Home Affairs website for details.
Working Holiday Visas
Australia's Working Holiday Maker program allows visitors aged under 30 (or 35 in certain cases) who hold a passport from a participating country to travel and work in Australia. Working holiday visas are valid for one year, or up to three years if you meet certain conditions.

HOW TO ENTER AUSTRALIA DURING COVID-19 FOR PERMANENT RESIDENTS
Disclaimer : Since July 6, the Australia Health Declaration is no longer needed .
Given the current health crisis caused by COVID-19, many Australian residents were stranded in foreign countries while they were enjoying their vacations or having a business trip. As a measure to repatriate their citizens, the Australian Department of Home Affairs has released the Australia COVID-19 Travel Request Form .
This document will allow stranded residents to return to Australia as long as they present evidence of residency documentation. A simple driver's license or proof that you work or study in Australia is enough to validate your residency. Bear in mind that holders of a Provisional (Temporary) Visa do not count as Australian residents. In order to facilitate things for you, here at iVisa.com we are processing this document. You can apply online here .

Travel facilitation letter process
- Add to quote
Hi Everyone, I have found this forum really helpful while my partner and I were making her 309 visa application. I noticed that there is very little information on the internet or the home affairs website about the travel facilitation letter. This can be requested for permanent and provisional visa holders who are having issues getting to Australia before their first entry date on their visa grant letter. I thought I would share our experience on here as a guide for what to expect if others need to apply for this letter: THE PROCESS We submitted the application through the home affairs website: Travel facilitation letter request form . It is available when the visa initial entry date has passed or will pass within 3 months. It asks some basic questions about what visa type you have, and your intentions for when you plan to travel. If you are eligible, it opens up a new set of questions starting with your initial entry date on your grant letter. It then asks for your location, personal and contact details, passport details and visa details. It also asks if you want to make an application for more than one person. PROCESSING TIME For us, we received a response in about a week . I haven't found much else on the internet to know if this is a long, short or average timeframe for this process. RESPONSE We received an email indicating that the application had been successful. The email included a facilitation letter as an attachment. This letter allows for an initial entry into Australia 12 months from the date of the facilitation letter, provided all other conditions of the visa are met and there is no other reason to cancel your visa. To me, the most important thing to note here is that the facilitation letter was valid for 12 months from the date of grant, not 12 months from the initial latest entry date specified on the original visa grant notice. We had no idea what the process for this form was or what the letter actually did if it was granted. Your experience may be different according to your circumstances but hopefully this helps to provide some clarity to anyone thinking of applying for the letter but are unsure when to do so or what assistance it provides if your application is successful. Thanks everyone and best of luck.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience! My 309 visa has been granted recently and the last entry date for me will be in May 2022. However due to the Covid situation and some other circumstances, we would like to leave from Europe to Australia only in Fall 2022. Do you or someone on this forum know for how long the option to apply for the travel facilitation letter will be in place? Is this an ongoing option or only possible as long as the travel restrictions are in place in Australia? Follow up questions unrelated to the travel facilitation letter would be - is it possible to only enter Australia to activate the visa before the first entry date and leave to my home country for a few months without repercussions to the visa? Is there a limit of how long you can stay outside of Australia on a 309 visa? Thanks in advance!
As far as I know, the option to apply for the travel facilitation letter will be available as long as you visa is valid. Also, yes, you can just enter the country to activate the visa and leave. There is no restrictions on that. All the best!
Hi, I am in the same situation here, I got my 309 visa granted in Jan 2021 with a plan of going there in November 2021 but due to the ongoing border closure and caps on arrivals, our flights have been cancelled and I want to apply for an extension for the least entry date which is currently set for Jan 2022. Just not sure exactly when do I need to start the travel facilitation letter request form and how far will they push my last entry date (3 months, 6 months, 12 months?). Thanks in advance, Samantha

My husband is in the same position, his initial entry date is January 2022, so I filled out the facilition letter form today, wondering how long they give you to get to Australia? We have a flight booked for April 2022? Thanks Aussie Winny
Has anyone applied for the extension recently and got it approved? We need to be in Aus for March and were hoping to extend due to difficulties getting home but now borders are open again we are worried that the extension will be harder to get. Any info would be helpful. Cheers
Hello, I applied about 2 weeks ago. Process went really fast. I submitted the Travel Facilitation Letter on a Monday and got the approval on a Wednesday so literally 48h! My advice is to do it whenever possible and you should obtain a year extension from the date of approval (not from the first entry date) We were worried as well as I needed to be in Oz mid January but it is now all resolved. Hope this helps and good luck! Cheers, Samantha

Thanks. My travel facilitation letter process take a week to receive it.
Hi, may I know when you submitted your application? I submitted mine last Thur night, but haven't got feedback till today (Tue noon). It is my second extension. Appreciate if you could share any information!
Thanks for sharing this information. It gets pretty irritating to plan a vacation sometimes. Every summer, my family and I try to travel to a new country. And most of the time, it's pretty annoying to book accommodations and purchase tickets. However, with the steps you've shared, I believe my next trip will be much easier. The ticket booking will also be easier as I've learned about the dbfahrplanauskunft.com platform. By the way, guys, have you visited Germany? We are considering visiting this country this summer, and I want to hear about your experience.

My wife first date of entry is 13th October 2022 we applied an extension for two month entry, on 8/12/2022, application was submitted on17th July 2022. We got an reference number, but there was no acknowledgment the application was received. Called them today, they cannot confirm the application is received, whether extension would be granted, this is kinda shit when immi cannot confirm things, how are we suppose plan and book tickets for coming back to Australia with no information
I submitted one travel facilitation letter last year and I got the approval in about one week. I submitted another one (for same visa holder) on 10th July, no response yet. I've called 131 881 twice, if you are directed to parent visa department, they have no idea what's travel facilitation letter. If you are directed to travel department, they know what's travel facilitation letter but can't tell you progress. They only tell you wait, if VISA expires, give them another call.

Target Audience of Travel Request Forms
Basically, any company that wants to expand or improve their business by meeting with potential and existing clients can use Travel Request Forms. Aside from businesses, schools can also use Travel Request Forms to be filled out by students who wish to travel to attend a seminar or meeting, or for research purposes. Immigration officers and other companies in the travel industry may also make use of Travel Request Forms in their daily dealings, such as validating an individual’s travel forms for international travel.
Importance of Using Travel Request Forms
Like any other business forms, Travel Request Forms are important in a number of ways. They help a company make sure that all travels within the company are:
- Authorized – Like any other business transaction, it is important that any request or need to travel has to go through the proper channels and departments before it gets authorized. A Travel Request Form may require various signatures from various department heads to ensure that this process is duly complied. You may also see our sample Travel Approval Forms for more samples of this.
- Feasible – The funds and resources in a company are limited. Therefore, it is important to make sure that every resource they put out will ultimately benefit the company or help in the increase of their income. Because Travel Request Forms require information regarding the expenses and purpose of the trip, the deciding department heads, which usually includes the finance department, can decide whether or not the trip will be feasible and practical. They have to make sure that the cost of the trip is worth it, and that the trip will actually make a difference or have a contribution to the company.
- Substantiable – This means that the trip is presented with documents for proof. An example is the use of Employee Expense Reimbursement Forms . Certain receipts are to be presented when employees file a claim for their travel expenses, such as receipts for their meals, accommodation, and transportation. This helps the company make sure that all expenses are valid and reasonable. This protects them from employees who may use a business trip as an excuse to pay for personal expenses.
- Organized – Travel Request Forms can also be kept and recorded for future reference. Because there is a form that is specific to each purpose, one can make sure that the forms can be organized to avoid clutter and confusion, and to allow easier access of the forms when one would need it for reference. To help, these forms may also be recorded electronically to save space, and to do away with all the paperwork that could be piling up and creating clutter. But caution has to be exercised, because electronic data may be compromised and corrupted.
As you can see, Travel Request Forms make travel proposals easier to manage and organize. It helps ensure the continuity of business by making sure that the allocation of funds for travel is feasible and reasonable, and it helps promote transparency and honesty in the business because it requires business trips to be substantiated.

This is used by employees to request approval for business travels. Business trips are necessary for businesses to improve and expand. Information to Be Included in Business Travel Request Forms
- Employment details of the employee who requests approval for the business travel, such as the employee number, department, and job title
- Travel details, such as the destination, mode of travel, and the departure and return dates
- Purpose of travel, such as the location and time if the purpose is to meet with a client
- Breakdown of estimated travel cost for meals, accommodation, and transportation
- A section for a travel advance, if necessary
- Signature of the employee, along with the date
- A section for the signature of the specific department heads who should approve the request
Travel Advance Request Forms
Travel Advance Request Forms are used to request for a travel advance. Contrary to a Travel Expense Reimbursement Form where the payment for the travel expenses is requested after the trip, a Travel Advance Request Form allows the traveler to request for an advanced payment before he travels, so that the money will not have to come out of his own pocket. This is more convenient for the traveler as opposed to having to spend his own money. This will also benefit the company in that the expenses would be more controlled because the total amount is already pre-approved.
Guidelines in Using Travel Advance Request Forms
- A detailed Travel Expense Form has to be submitted after the trip, wherein the employee will outline the expenses incurred, along with the receipts to substantiate the form. A certain period of time has to be given to the employee to comply, and failure to do so may merit a deduction of the amount of the travel advance from the employee’s payroll.
- Any remaining amount of the travel advance that was not used has to be returned to the employer. To document any remaining amount, a Travel Expense Form has to be used as well, along with the necessary receipts.
- The Travel Advance Request Form has to be filled out properly and accurately with detailed information so that the trip can be validated and so that the funds can be released. This form will have to go through various department heads for approval, which also includes the finance or business office of the company.

Where a Travel Advance was not provided prior to the trip, an employee would have to submit a Travel Expense Reimbursement Form or Travel Expense Claim Form so that he will be reimbursed for the travel expenses incurred during the trip. Sometimes, only one form is used regardless of whether a travel advance was acquired by the employee or whether the travel expenses will be taken from the employee’s own pocket and reimbursed after the trip. There would just be an option for the employee to indicate which is the case for his trip.
Expenses That Are to Be Reimbursed
- Accommodation – This is necessary if the trip will last for more than one day, and the employee would need to rent a hotel to stay overnight. This has to be listed in a daily manner.
- Transportation – This is the cost of transportation, no matter what the mode of transportation was, which has to be indicated in the form. If the employee used his personal car for transportation, he would have to be reimbursed for gas expenses. In this case, a Mileage Tracker has to be used to calculate how much the reimbursement would be, which would be dependent on the number of miles driven to get to and from the destination.
- Entertainment – If the employee met with a client and incurred entertainment expenses, it has to be reimbursed as well. Like accommodation expenses, this has to be listed in a daily manner.
- Meals – This includes the meals of the employee and the clients he will meet with, if there are any client meetings. Just like the accommodation and entertainment expenses, this has to be listed in a daily manner and not per meal.
When filing a claim for travel expenses, it is important to keep in mind that personal expenses should not be included. These are expenses that would not ultimately benefit the company. Also remember to keep your receipts so that you can present these along with your Travel Expense Reimbursement Form, so that you can substantiate your form. If you ever lose your receipts, you may submit a copy, but you have to indicate why you are only submitting a copy and not the original ones. When filling out your forms, always make sure that they are filled out completely and accurately. This is important because these forms deal with money, and any gap on the breakdown of expenses should be avoided. The breakdown of expenses should be properly calculated to avoid misunderstandings with your employer. Also, include the whats and whens of the expenses incurred to make it detailed. All of these points are important to maintain a good relationship with your employer that is based on trust and credibility. You may also see our other samples of Request Forms for your other needs.
