And in her dream, she realizes that the wings can talk, and the wings are making sure all the passengers are happy. The wings are also serving snacks and collecting service items. Shelly awakens to the sound of the arrival announcements. Shelly laughs aloud remembering that she had taken her jacket off as she was getting settled in her seat. She quickly puts her jacket back on and sure enough the wings were still there. “My Wings, I found my wings!” If you want this style of illustrations for your future children's story. Book Cover for "The Great Ride Of China"
The Great Ride of China is the story of Buck Perley and Amy Mathieson’s 21,000-mile, record-breaking trip around one of the world’s oldest and most diverse countries. What started out as an idea for a month long road trip, became a journey that took the couple from the grass plains of Inner Mongolia to the deserts of Xinjiang and up to the Rooftop of the World in the Himalayas. As the story follows Buck and Amy through all 33 provinces of Mainland China, the reader will have an opportunity to not just learn about the challenges they encountered along the road, but also about a country in transition. Experiences that include 20-mile traffic jams in the center of coal country, visits to cities whose histories span millennia, and a chat with a resident of a cave dwelling equipped with satellite TV offer a unique view into a country that today is often heard of but rarely understood.

Standing Out
= Book description = Introduction: My life has spanned three continents. My immediate family includes three brothers, but not at the same time. There were also three weddings and three deaths. Must have some Kenyan imagery. Travel iconography maybe. I am Chinese and grew up in Kenya, and my mother was a Chinese brush painter. I mention the savannah and animals and Mount Kenya in the book. I also mention blue peonies. I travel a lot in the first part of the book. 6x9 paperback.

At each parish or place he visited, he wrote about something taking place there – a unique ministry, an evangelization effort, an individual story, etc. The idea behind the trip, and this book, was to explore the many ways we are living our faith as Catholics. He was blessed to meet and speak to a wonderful collection of Catholic men and women, religious and lay people alike, who are using their gifts to serve the Lord and our Church. Their stories are told in 52 Masses.

8 amazing travel book cover examples to pique your wanderlust, table of content, discover few great travel book cover design ideas to make you yearn for the outdoors.
Most of us would love to drop everything and travel around the world enjoying the different cultures and people we meet. However, we often ignore the lure of this carefree nomadic lifestyle due to various responsibilities.
However, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the thrill of such adventures vicariously. And one of the best ways to do that is via travel books. Now, there is something special about these books. It doesn’t matter if you visit a bookstore for a specific travel book, or are enticed by an amazing travel book cover while browsing that section. Despite being non-fiction, these books often portray a sense of excitement and intrigue that draws readers to it.
Now, every book has its fans. And they would happily argue in favor of their preferred book’s cover design. However, like it or not, there are a few metrics that denote whether a book cover idea is good or not. So, let’s dive in and discover some great examples of book covers designed by professional eBook design services , and see what are the elements that set them apart from the competition.
What Does a Good Travel Book Cover Represent?
Let’s start with the most important question at hand – what defines a good travel book cover? When we talk about book cover ideas for travel books, there are a few key things to remember.
One, the book is going to be non-fiction, which imposes some creative limitations on the design process. Secondly, as most of these writers are previously well known, with highly recognizable literary styles and tones, the book cover design has to address that too.
Finally, the overall design needs to be enticing enough to attract people who would otherwise have little to no interest in reading non-fiction.
Take the book cover above. That is the cover art for Robert Sullivan’s Cross Country, a travel book to read for the ages. As a journalist, Robert Sullivan was at that time known for contributing to various publications. And that style is reflected in the design. The cover design features a mishmash of letters and phrases cut out from various publications, as well as from hastily scrawled notes in a journalist’s notebook.
Overall, the combined impact of the design piques a potential reader’s interest, slowly drawing them in to pick it up and start reading, after which it’s the content that captures their attention.
Travel Book Cover Design Ideas – Representing Fact or Fiction in Its Design
As we mentioned earlier, most travel books are non-fiction. However, there are a few that are not entirely unembellished, which serve as an allegorical narrative. In any way, the design of your travel book cover, whether it fiction or non-fiction, is predicated on a few different elements, such as:
- The right color combinations for your accents, to frame your central design
Your choice of color scheme is very important, as it allows you to define what colors would serve as accents to your primary shades. This would allow your central design to be more visible, which would help it stand out better among the bookstore shelves, drawing the eye of potential readers to it.
- The use of visual contrast that defines how well the central element of the design pops out
Just like the right colors can be used as accents to add to the design’s overall visual appeal, so can you use colors to provide a compelling contrast that would serve the same purpose. Not only does it make your design stand out, but it also allows the central element of your design to pop out like no other technique can, making it the hero of your travel book cover.
- The use of the right typography hierarchy that invokes the right feel
Typography is an important factor. And with more than one written element on your book cover design, it is important that you perfectly plan out the typographic hierarchy to make the central heading pop out.
- Giving your travel book cover the right character with a handwritten font
As most of these travel books are written about the author’s experiences, the book cover design must also incorporate their vibe into it. That is why a good handwritten font is the perfect solution to give your design that raw, humanistic feel that adds to the story and its vibe.
- The use of the perfect graphics to allude to the book’s story.
Nowadays, it’s rare that a book cover design has no visuals on it. Even if quite simple, the trend is to use some sort of graphics to make the design of the book’s cover stand out. That is why, you must use some sort of graphics in your book cover design. And there is no better choice than to use graphics that allude to or call back to your book’s central theme.

The first book on our list is Among the Cities, written by famed British historian, traveler, and author, Jan Morris. The book is a compendium of thirty-seven essays that Jan wrote throughout her long and illustrious career, covering her travels from Houston to Beirut.
While the book’s cover has changed across various reprints, this one featured here is the perfect representation of the story of a traveler who traveled across the world, from the West to the East. The lightly shaded backdrop, covered by depictions of famous monuments from various countries, and done in the style of watercolors, sets the perfect tone for the reader. And it is also one of the only true art book cover ideas on this list.
Along the Ganges – Ilija Trojanow
Next up, we have the eponymous homage to the deep and mesmerizing culture of Hinduism, set against their holiest of rivers, the Ganges. The author, Ilija Trojanow, is a Cold War refugee from Bulgaria, who has traveled to and lived with different cultures, including in Germany, Kenya, South Africa, and more.
Trajonow traveled across the entire length of the Ganges river, from its source in the icy Himalayas, and through the chaotic cityscapes and holy places it flows through. There, he talked to the people, understanding their devotion and beliefs related to this river. And the cover of the book perfectly captures that essence of serenity and mystic belief. Showing a dying light shot of the river with a cluster of lit ceremonial lamps, it is set against the backdrop of worshipers in a boat across the calm waters.
An Area of Darkness – V. S. Naipaul
The next book is called An Area of Darkness, written by acclaimed traveler and author V. S. Naipaul. A Trinidadian-Indian by birth, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001 , and this book, part of a trilogy, shows why.
An Area of Darkness is a pessimistic story about the grim outlook of former colonies, often categorized as third-world countries, set against the background of Naipaul’s ancestral land of India. The book describes the author’s disillusionment at the corrupt officials, poverty, and inequality, set against the serene and awe-inspiring background of the magnificent Himalayas.
The cover of the book perfectly captures the pessimistic tone, with a dark red background, and the flower on it in a dark burgundy to showcase the theme of darkness.
Arctic Dreams – Barry Lopez
Arctic Dreams is a mesmerizing book about the haunting, ethereal beauty of the Arctic Circle, written by American author, traveler, and naturalist Barry Lopez. Over his long and illustrious career, Lopez traveled to and lived in over eighty different countries, with five years of that time spent in the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic as a biologist.
In his book, he explores the wonders of the Arctic and discovers why that vast, seemingly barren landscape holds such an allure over many people. He also explores the culture and history of the indigenous people and examines the behavior of exotic animals like the Musk Oxen, narwhale, and more.
The cover of the book has changed with each reprint. However, the theme of awe-inspiring ice monoliths, or the barren icy tundra, perfectly captures the essence of the book’s theme.
As They Were – M. F. K. Fisher
As They Were is a collection of essays by famed food author M. F. K. Fisher. Although a food writer, she dived into the field of travel writing with this amazing book, exploring the time she spent in different European countries.
Most of the writings explore the various facets of living the provencal life, from quaint towns in the Swiss Alps to the homely restaurants and cafes she visited or worked at in Southern France. And while many people would argue that the book is, in its essence, still a culinary book, one cannot deny that it doesn’t paint a picture of idyllic food tours through rural France. Especially when you consider that its title typography gives it an old-school vibe found in many classic typography book cover ideas .
The Baron in the Trees – Italo Calvino
This next book is a rare one in this collection and one that breaks the mold of traditional travel books. The Baron in the Trees is a novel by late Italian author Italo Calvino. It tells the story of a young man named Cosimo, who takes to living in the trees after quarreling with his parents and vowing never to step foot on the ground again.
Rather than describe the travels of the author in the traditional sentence, it describes Cosimo’s exploration of his new kingdom, and seeing the world go by in the Age of Enlightenment. The story travels through the life of the baron, describing his friendships, loves, and eventually, his passing on to the ethereal plane.
The cover of the book has changed many times since its first release in 1957, often even taking inspiration from children’s book cover ideas . But the travel book cover we have chosen today perfectly captures the essence of mystery and adventure portrayed in this book.
Black Lamb and Grey Falcon – Rebecca West
Black Lamb and Grey Falcon is a pair of travel books written by British author and Journalist, Dame Rebecca West. It covers her six-week travels through Yugoslavia and its neighboring Balkan states, providing a stark reality of this region just before the onset of World War II.
By the time the book reached publishing, Yugoslavia’s Nazi occupation had begun, and West added a foreword to the book praising the resilience of the Yugoslavians. The book itself describes her travels through this region extensively, as well as her conversations with fellow authors from the region, including Stanislav Vinaver and Anica Savic Rebac.
The cover of the book depicts the famous Stari Most bridge in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. A popular monument, it is a rebuilt 16th-century Ottoman bridge that connects the two parts of the city across the Neretva River.
Dark Star Safari – Paul Theroux
Finally, we have the last book on this list. Dark Star Safari is a travel book written by famed author Paul Theroux. A former contemporary-turned-critic of V. S. Naipaul, the author is known for his gritty and raw style of writing, as well as the beautiful travel book cover design ideas for his books.
Describing his journey from Cairo, Egypt, to Cape Town, South Africa, it tells the story of a harsh and difficult overland journey that is nothing short of a safari. And although it takes a hard approach, it will still make you want to replicate that journey yourself.
The travel book cover for the Dark Star Safari features a steam-powered train chugging through a vast open plain, flanked on one side by sparse trees, while on the other, nothing but dust. To give the scene a vibe of difficult and harsh travels, the imagery is bathed in the stark orange-yellow light of the setting sun, which sets the perfect mood.

Final Words
Overall, finding the right travel book cover design is usually not that difficult. That is because, during their travels, these journalists often take many pictures that depict the land and its people in a way that lends to the message of the book.
However, if your book cover doesn’t feature a photograph, then you need to understand the theme of the book to come up with suitable travel book cover design ideas. In any case, your cover imagery should echo the vibe and sentiment of your book itself, as well as the personality of the author.

These Travel Journal Covers Will Amaze You!
Posted on Last updated: January 22, 2024
For me, travel journal covers are the number one place where all good diaries, notebooks and scrapbooks begin. They can really tell a story about your trip on their own!
If you’re a fan of travel journaling , finding a perfect book to keep your memories in is probably really important to you. And one of the first things you’ll see is the cover of the journal.
In general I’d say “don’t judge a book by its cover”, but in the case of a travel journal, I will make an exception. Looking for inspiration? In this blog post, I’ll show you some examples of creative covers of my own travel journals throughout the years.
I hope they will motivate you to start your own travel journal on your next trip!
Types of Travel Journal Covers
Country journal covers, city journal covers, leather journal covers, map journal covers, photo journal covers, postcard journal covers, travel without leaving home, which book to read, more about travel journalling, our favourite travel notebook covers, our favourite travel journals, travel journals for kids, discover unique travel gear & gifts.
INSPIRATION FOR TRAVEL JOURNAL COVERS
THESE JOURNALS HAVE AMAZING COVERS The Adventure Book – Ultimate Traveler’s Edition (map on linen cover) Everywhere You Go: Guided Travel Journal (looks like flight label) Clever Fox Bucket List Journal / Camping Journal / Travel Journal (embossed icons) Field Notes (vintage-looking US National Park prints) Oakdene Designs (personalized wooden cover) CamperVanStore (bamboo cover) Personalized Leather Travel Journal (monogrammed) Leather covers for Leuchtturm1917 / Moleskine / Field Notes / Traveler’s Notebook by Galen Leather
Before choosing a travel journal, I would suggest to have a look at the type of binding you like most on your notebook. This is the material that is used to make the upper (front) and lower (back) covers of the journal.
Another thing to look at is the way the pages are attached to the covers/back of the notebook. Both of these factors really change the way a journal opens and how you can use it.
For example, a saddle-stitch bind is when paper is folded with a staple or thread through the fold. PUR binding uses a paperboard or heavy cover stock to attach pages to the spine with glue (like in a paperback book). With spiral binding , there is a loop wire going through holes in the cover and pages (Nick hates these, as he’s left-handed and somehow always finds the wire in his way when writing), and with section sewn binding or coptic stitch binding , you get a flexible spine so you can lay the pages flat to work on.
As for the cover, you can choose between a hardcover or a more flexible, soft cover .
I personally don’t like albums where the pages that are sewn or stitched to tightly, because when you add lots of items (photos, stickers, receipts, tickets, etc.) to your album, it makes it impossible to close it properly after.
In those cases, soft covers can then make it easier to close the album (with a ribbon or elastic or something like that).
When I create a travel journal that is more heavily focused on just writing or albums with only photographs, the pages can be a bit tighter and a hardcover is usually best.
So you can see how the way you use your travel notebook changes the type of travel journal cover you choose. And then we haven’t even talked about the options in design , which are endless! Let’s get more into that now…
You don’t always need to be physically on the road to enjoy the beauty of destinations from all around the world!
From vintage travel posters to beautifully displayed souvenirs and home decor items inspired by your favourite places and from travel journals and crafts to exploring world recipes, music and dance.
With our creative articles you’ll get some fresh ideas on how to bring the world closer to the comforts of your own home.
I love buying travel journals locally when I travel. As you can see below, I’ve got journals from Morocco , Japan , India and Nepal .
They don’t just look amazing, but they are also specifically tailored to the trip – and (best of all) you can support local businesses while visiting a destination!
The paper in these albums can vary from handmade (course paper from natural fibers) to the more fabricated ‘regular’ paper that’s a bit easier to write on, so it depends on how you want to use your travel journal what would work best for you.
Places to look for these kind of albums are of course local shops and (night)markets, but you can also find them sometimes in coffeeshops that have a small shop section or online creator marketplaces such as Etsy >
I found some cute examples of journal covers based on a specific city on Instagram.
Look at the New York Journal cover here and the London Journal cover here .
Another type of journal that you can find locally are leather bound journals. I’ve seen a lot of them on markets in for example Southeast Asia!
These type of albums usually have handmade paper of natural fibers, so perhaps they aren’t the best for a lot of writing. But as scrapbooks these albums are perfect.
The leather cover also makes the album a bit more flexible (literally) compared to journals with cardboard or plastic covers, so you can add in receipts, tickets, photos etc. and it won’t matter the album gets a bit thicker. You can just tie the ribbon a bit looser in that case.
Another benefit is that these leather journals are easy to customize. Below you can see one with my own name on it, that I got as a gift after a work job. So special!
- Check out this beautiful refillable handmade leather travelers notebook by the brand Robrasim >
- This beautiful leather travel diary with a compass monogram by TealsPrairie on Etsy is also super special >
- Looking for more amazing leather notebook covers? Check out Galen Leather. This is a family company in Istanbul (Turkey). Their journal covers are compatible with Moleskine , Leuchtturm1917 , Field Notes and Traveler’s Notebook ( they also sell refills ), making them perfect for on the road >
- If you love the leather-look but would like a vegan alternative, then this faux leather travel journal from OneLineVoyage on Etsy is perfect for you >
Nothing says travel more than a (world)map, am I right? A lot of travel journals that you buy in the shop or online already have maps printed on them, like the ones below.
But of course you can also create your own! Simply collect a map during your travels (it can be a road map, a regional map or something else) and cut it in the right size of the cover of your journal. That way you’ll have a very unique custom journal cover that nobody else has and is a perfect match for your trip!
- Bookishly sells cute travel journals with vintage world map covers featuring an inspirational quote on Etsy >
- The Adventure Book (which comes in three variations) also has a beautiful world map on the front >
I have a lot of friends and family members who always print their (phone)photos from their travels into a book – and some of them even display them beautifully in the house, which I think is such a good idea!
A few years ago, I made a ‘compilation album’ of all of the countries I visited as a solo backpacker in my twenties, featuring Japan, Australia, New-Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
It’s such a great memory to have and for the cover I chose this photo of myself a fellow traveller took of me during a sailing trip in The Whitsundays in Australia – one of my favourite memories! I look so relaxed and happy (and tanned, haha), something I love to remember.
There are many online printing shops where you can easily create and print photo albums like these (I forgot where I printed mine, sorry!). It depends on your country which ones are best, so do a little research and read reviews of people that used the service!
An easy way to decorate your travel journal is to stick some postcards from the country or countries you visited to the cover! Especially when your album is A5 in size, you can easily fit two of them.
Below you can see an album that friends gave me on my first world trip to Japan and Australia, and I’ve added postcards from both countries at the end of my trip.
TIP! Have you heard of Postcrossing yet? This website lets you send and receive postcards from random people around the world. Real postcards, not electronic, like we used to do in the old days (ok, my childhood, haha). I’ve participated a few times and love it so much >

How can I create the perfect Travel Book cover?
- Pick a landscape photo! Your book will be 29.7 cm wide and 21cm high, so this will guarantee the best fit.
- Note: It’s not possible to change the position of the title and/or year, so you really do want to pick a photo that works with this layout.
- The year of your trip is added automatically to your cover. To avoid repetition, don’t put the year of your trip in your title.
- Pick a bright photo! Your cover will eventually be printed with a subtle dark filter. For this reason, we recommend picking a vibrant photo — if you pick a photo that’s already quite dark, the filter will make it look darker, which is probably not what you want.

Breaking news, michelle obama goes ‘undercover’ at target to promote her book: ‘it’s a secret mission’.
Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
Michelle Obama went “undercover” to sign copies of her new book, sharing footage of the hilarious “covert operation”.
The former First Lady – the wife of Barack Obama, who served as America’s 44th President between 2008 and 2016 – visited a Target store in St. Louis, Missouri to promote “The Light We Carry.”
In a video of the “secret mission” shared to Instagram, Obama makes her way into the store in a baseball cap and sunglasses to sign copies of the new release.
“We are on a mission. It’s a secret mission. I had a crazy idea, I heard my paperback is out, and it’s in Target,” she said in the clip.
“So we are going to go undercover because I have not seen my book actually in a Target store. So we are going to try to do this low-key.”
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Michelle Obama (@michelleobama)
After signing six copies of the book – a follow-up to her best-selling memoir, “Becoming” – the 60-year-old grabs a basket and does a lap of the budget store.
“I got something for me, something for my husband and something for (our dog) Sunny,” she jokes before adding, “The girls, they can get their own stuff.”
Spokespeople for Ms Obama have repeatedly denied she will run in this year’s presidential election, amid speculation by both the Democratic and Republican camps in the past 12 months.
In a 2022 interview with the BBC, Ms Obama said she “detests” questions about her running for office.
“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” the director of communications for her office, Crystal Carson, told NBC News in a statement last month.
“Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ re-election campaign.”

Chatbooks custom photo books & albums.
Photo albums create a tangible and lasting archive of memories — ultimately proving to be more durable and accessible than the mess of digital files on your phone and computer. Plus, a custom photo book can be a thoughtful and unique gift for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, or other special events.
Online photo book services make it easy and quick to choose a theme or layout, upload photos and ship the book straight to the recipient. Best of all, some photo book makers even have apps so you can upload photos directly from your smartphone.
Shutterfly offers basic photo books at an affordable price. You can choose from a wide selection of themes, like birthday, travel or wedding, or neutral styles , such as modern or rustic. You can also create your own book and choose the book size, cover style and page style, then embellish it with Shutterfly's extensive library of stickers and ribbons to make your book extra special. We appreciate how easily users can edit within their chosen template and the brand's high-quality photo book paper, making Shutterfly a top pick.
You can also opt for one of its 6" x 6" Instant Books , which let you add photos from your phone, tablet or computer in minutes. These mini photo books have only 20 pages, but they're a great place to store goofy candids or Instagram posts you never want to forget. The possibilities are essentially limitless, though the vast array of options could be overwhelming for those getting started.
If you don't want the pressure of deciding on a layout, the brand offers a convenient Make My Book option, in which Shutterfly's professional designers curate your photos and design the book for free. Plus, you'll still have the opportunity to put finishing touches on it before it gets printed. Whether you opt for 50 or 800 photos (the maximum), you'll receive an email notification within 24 hours that your book is complete.
Crunched for time? Design your photo book online and pick up select styles at a Walmart store near you in as little as one hour. Photo books picked up in one hour can have 15 single-sided pages and a linen cover, while same-day pickups (ready in a few hours) can have up to 20 double-sided pages and the option of a hardcover.
On top of the speedy turnaround, Walmart has a great selection of styles : You can choose everything from the photo size and layout to the type of cover, including hardcover glossy or matte, linen, leather and lay-flat glossy or matte. If you need help narrowing down the choices, there's also the option to shop by occasion, whether you're looking for a one-year anniversary or 15th-year anniversary gift .
Despite the fast shipping and variety, our tester noted that the quality was not as high as the options offered by other photo book makers on this list — but that may be expected considering the bargain price tag. Regardless, these photo books still make a superb present that can cost under $10 without compromising on sentimentality.
No matter the occasion, you can't go wrong with one of Artifact Uprising's high-quality photo books. There are numerous design options, including preset books to celebrate the birth of a new baby or commemorating a marriage.
You can choose from lay-flat albums, books with photo strips and even softcover Instagram Friendly Books for the influencer in your life. The company even has an iPhone app that lets you create a photo book right from your smartphone. However, Rothman found the app to be glitchy at times and noted there's room for improvement with the software. Still, the books come out on top for elegance and simplicity .
One online reviewer wrote, "The fabric cover is beautiful. The photos are amazing quality and look amazing even though the photos were taken on film and therefore are a bit grainy." The overall 4.6-star rating (out of 5) backs up that review. Quality and elevated designs come with a higher price tag, but there are options for $20 or less if you're shopping on a budget.
If you have a special project and a little more money to spend, Artifact Uprising offers Design Services , which allow you to work one-on-one with an expert to bring your special moments to life. Just note that the design fee is rather steep at $119 and requires an additional $100 album deposit.
When Mixbook says it has "custom photo books for every occasion," it really means it. There are 374 different themed templates to choose from, including everything f rom travel and sports to weddings and recipes.
But that doesn't mean you have to give up creative control. You can still customize the look to your liking, from fun backgrounds to stickers to text using the Editor tool. Plus, there are plenty of paper varieties, from semigloss to ultra-thick matte.
Our testers appreciated the nice balance between good photo editing and price, but one did experience issues with the lay-flat option, in which the photos bled into the crease. You can also use the iPhone app to organize your photos with a tool that the brand calls "Automagic": Simply choose the images you want and select a theme. The goal of Automagic is to help arrange your camera roll so your photos are in order when it comes time to add them to your photo book.
If you're not sure where to start, our pros love Printique because it's super easy to use. You can select one of the many predesigned layouts or create an entire photo book from scratch.
Choose among portrait, landscape and square orientations, as well as hardcover and softcover options. You can even store your memories in a genuine leather or vegan leather book or pick from five different fabric colors. Although you can't choose the color for a hard- or softcover photo book, you can still customize the shape, size and paper type.
Looking for something more advanced? There'sa tool for professional photographers to design and create their own photo books. But if you want to keep things simple, consider starting with one of Printique's 4" x 4" Mini Softcover photo books , which have a maximum of 40 pages and come in three sizes.
Is Amazon Photos already your preferred destination for uploading photos? Then creating a photo book through its interface is an easy solution.
Similar to other photo book makers, you can create by occasion and size, or choose its 8" x 8" Premium Photo Book for a versatile option that has a laminated cover and lay-flat binding. There's also an option with standard binding at a lower cost, and all Amazon Prime members get free shipping . (Everyone else is eligible for free shipping with a minimum order of $15.)
In addition to photo books, you can shop large prints, calendars, cards and metal tabletops. There are fewer size and style options than most services when it comes to photo books, but the other photo product choices make up for the lack of available styles. After all, sometimes it's easier and quicker to have fewer options to choose from if you need to pull something together last-minute.

With Pinhole Press, you can choose from various photo book styles ranging from board pages to softcovers to accordion-style setups. Upload your photos and let the system do the work, or manually place the photos into the layout yourself.
One of our testers says her kids love the Custom Board Books , which have themes such as " Count With Me ," " Healthy Habits " and " I Can Be Anything ." These photo books aren't just visually stimulating, but they can also educate and entertain kids for years to come .
"I got my daughter the ' My First Photo Book ' as a toddler and made it all about her — like pictures with family, doing things she likes, her favorite toys, at the playground and beach, etc. — and she still is obsessed with it," says GH Institute Executive Director Lexie Sachs .
We think he custom Photo Puzzle is a fun option for kids, and the Itty Bitty Books are easy to tote around in a work bag for on-hand entertainment. There's less variety in some categories, including Itty Bitty and hardcover books, but with so many additional photo categories other companies lack, there are still plenty of great options for kids.

If you store your snaps in Google Photos, then Google's very own photo book maker might be the most convenient option for you. Even though there are no fancy designs, the process is seamless.
Choose from two options: a 7" x 7" softcover photo book or a 9" x 9" hardcover photo book. You can include between 20 and 140 pages, and you have the option to add a spine title if you hit more than 48 pages for a softcover or any number of pages for a hardcover.
Another hallmark of Google Photos is that you can make one photo book and order multiple copies to give to family members and friends who are also pictured in the photos. Since they come at an affordable price point, you could give everyone on your gift list a copy, whether you decide to create a collection of candid photos for your closest friends or a tangible memento of a fun family trip. Though there may not be as many designs and styles to choose from, that can make the customization process less daunting.
Chatbooks Custom Photo Books & Albums
"Set and forget it," one of our testers said about the ease of using Chatbooks, which markets itself as "ridiculously easy." You can upload images from Instagram, Flickr, Dropbox, Facebook or your computer and edit them on your desktop or via the app .
The service's Custom Photo Books & Albums option is great for families looking to personalize a family vacation , as you can choose colors, layouts, cover styles, collages, captions and more. Peruse its vast collection of more than 300 unique book covers, or shop the premium lay-flat and special occasion photo books.
You can also have fun with the Instagram and Facebook series — a 6" x 6" or 8" x 8" book with 60 pages — that lets you store your favorite social media posts in a tangible place to look back on for years to come.
Unique to Chatbooks is its subscription service, which allows you to receive a softcover, hardcover or mini photo book each month. If you and your family love taking photographs of walks in the park, weekend road trips or vacations, this service is ideal for getting your photos in your hands ASAP. One thing to note about the subscription option is that there are only two sizes available (5" x 7" and the monthly mini).
How we chose the best photo book makers
At the Good Housekeeping Institute , our pros in the Media & Tech Lab have been testing photo book makers for more than a decade . For this article, we referenced a robust test of photo book makers we completed in 2009 and ordered a round of new products to test in 2023. We also researched the latest updates and offerings to a variety of apps and services.
When choosing the best photo book makers, our Lab experts consider ease of use, performance and appearance . That means our pros take an in-depth look at a wide range of features, such as how easy it is to navigate the interface and add photos and text to the book; upload and delivery time; the number of styles, covers and templates offered; and the photo, paper and binding quality.
What to look for when shopping for the best custom photo book maker
Keep the following features in mind when choosing the right photo book maker website for your needs:
✔️ Size: Whether you're looking for a small photo book for kids or a much larger album to house snapshots from a long family vacation, there are regular, large and miniature photo book sizes available. It's best to think about how many photos you want to include and where you plan to store the album (i.e., will the book be too tall for your bookshelf or just right on top of your coffee table?).
✔️ Shape: Most photo books are rectangular or square in shape, but some companies also offer photo puzzles, calendars and tabletops to choose from too. The shape is really about aesthetic preference and the orientation you prefer for your photos.
✔️ Page count: Are you compiling 20 photos from your daughter's first-birthday party? Or are you putting together an anniversary album of pictures of you and your partner throughout the years? The number of pages determines the number of photos you can include in an album, so you have enough space to include everything.
✔️ Paper quality: This is probably a no-brainer, as the quality of material your photos are printed on is as important as the quality of the photos themselves. Although companies with higher-quality paper, like Artifact Uprising , may have a higher price tag, the extra money goes toward paper that won't lead to photos bleeding into the crease. But there are still services that are affordable and offer good-quality products, like our best value pick, Walmart Photo .
✔️ Binding quality: Some companies, like Google Photo , will add a binding to your photo album. This feature is especially important when considering the durability and longevity of your photo album. Whether it's a softcover, hardcover or lay-flat book, make sure the binding can withstand accidental drops and the wear and tear of passing the family album around at holiday parties.
✔️ Templates: If your photo album will have a certain theme or be centered around a specific occasion — or it's your first time using a photo book maker — choosing a service that has a variety of templates to choose from will let your creativity flow and also help you warm up to the design process.
✔️ Editing capabilities: When looking at beginner-level or more advanced designer tools, consider how robust or simple they are to use. Having lots of control over the interface is fun, but if you're looking for a more straightforward experience, opt for a service that does the majority of the decision-making for you or offers designer help, like Shutterfly .
What is the easiest way to make a custom photo book?
It really depends upon the service and your preference .
Although some online custom photo book makers also have an app, it can have limited functionality, be buggy or not as easy to use as the desktop equivalent. Often, an app makes it super simple to upload pictures from your phone (a major plus!) but doesn't allow as much flexibility for product assortment or editing once you've selected. That said, designing a photo book on your smartphone or tablet versus a desktop may come down to how many edits you intend to make .
If you plan to do a lot of editing, the non-app version on a larger screen would likely be your best choice. If you want to quickly make a book with limited changes, an app on your mobile device may be the way to go.
