Air Supply is an Australian soft rock duo which consists of songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock.

The group's origins lie in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Melbourne where the original members met and decided to form a vocal group whilst still being committed to their roles in the play. Their first single was titled 'Love and Other Bruises' and was an instant success in Australia where it peaked at No. 6 upon release. The first album was released in 1976, it was self titled and charted within the top 20 in their homeland.

They first found success in the States after released 'Lost in Love' in 1980 which peaked at #22 on the Billboard charts and now holds a double platinum selling certificate. The following album 'The One That You Love' reached #10 and remains their highest position in both the States and Australia excluding the 1983 Greatest Hits package. This collection topped the Australian chart and appeared at #7 in the US and now holds a five times platinum selling certificate.

Their singles also saw huge chart success in the early 80's, they scored nine top five Billboard appearances and six top forty songs in Australia. In 2013 the remaining members of Air Supply were inducted into the Hall Of Flame by the Australian Recording Industry Association for their services to music.

It is incredibly hard to believe that Air Supply is celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year, and I've been a fan pretty much the entirety of that time. What would be even harder for most people to believe is that they are better than ever. One of the greatest gifts anyone can give themselves is the opportunity to see these guys live. Any misnomers of a band reminiscent of the lush, syrupy ballads of the early and mid-80's are quickly eradicated. These guys rock. Certainly, there are the plethora of amazing hit songs: "Lost in Love," "All Out of Love," "Making Love Out of Nothing At All," "Even The Nights Art Better," "Sweet Dreams," "Just As I Am," "The One That You Love," "Every Woman In The World," and "Here I Am." However, with each of these memorable classics, something new and exciting is presented in the live concert. Top it off with new songs that run the gamut from simple, tear-inducing acoustics to electrifying dance beats, and the crowd is entertained from start to finish.

Air Supply has been criticized and even ridiculed by many music lovers for many years, but there is no question in my mind that none of such criticisms have come from anyone who has actually seen the band in concert.

Original members Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they not only still have it, but that (like fine wine and true love) they have only matured and gotten better with age. Plus, they are the most genuine, kind-hearted individuals I have ever met. Add to this the powerful modern musicianship of the other four guys in the band, and the event known as an Air Supply concert becomes nothing short of magical.

Thus was my experience at Thunder Valley Casino & Resort in Lincoln, CA on Friday, January 30, 2014.

Nearly forty years of writing, performing and evolving and the Australian duo of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock make it look like a walk in the park. Despite countless accompanying musicians joining and leaving the band throughout the years, Russell and Hitchcock have battled on to keep their dream alive. Air Supply first came together in 1975 and 39 years later it is clear why they have remained on the music scene for such a long time. Together, the duo have sold more than 100 million copies of their 18 studio albums, 2 live albums, 12 compilation albums and 27 singles. It is, therefore, not surprising that in 2013 the pair were drafted into the Australian Recording Industry Association’s Hall of Fame. Seeing Air Supply perform live in 2013, it was impossible not to sense the sheer passion emanating from the duo that had clearly driven them through all of these years. The mixture of different people enjoying the show was like nothing I’ve ever seen before, from die-hard followers that have loved them since the 70s to young adults who grew up listening to their parents’ favourite band. Russell and Hitchcock’s charisma on stage as they interacted with the crowd, telling funny anecdotes or posing for cameras, is unmatched by the young and contemporary artists of our present time. As the sea of fans sung each and every word of “All Out Of Love” along with the legendary duo above them as they ended the concert, I can only guess that not one person wanted the song to end.

Air Supply are a soft rock duo formed in 1975. They have had numerous hit songs including ‘All Out of Love’, ‘The One That You Love’, ‘Even The Nights Are Better’ and ‘Making Love Out of Nothing At All’. The duo have continued to tour and produce music into the 2000s therefore I was able to see them at one of their recent US dates. There was a real mix of people in the audience singing along and swaying to Air Supply’s most classic songs such as ‘Lost In Love’ and ‘Just As I Am’. The soft rock melodies and mellow beats entranced the crowd. The catchy lyrics of the duo were being shouted back to the duo on stage as they enjoyed playing live once again. Russell Hitchcock’s vocals and Graham Russell’s guitar were still on point. My favourite moments were hearing ‘Just As I Am’ played live because it’s such an elevating song especially with the guitar solos and vocals filling the room. I also really enjoyed Air Supply’s latest single ‘Desert, Sea, Sky’ which has been remixed by Wideboys to create a hit dance track. Despite the generic difference this was still enjoyed by the audience who were enthused with a new energy for the encore by the tracks lively beats and up-tempo electronic melodies. I’m delighted that I was able to see Air Supply live and that they are still producing music. Everyone enjoyed the night.

Absolutely awesome as usual!! Paid extra to sit in second row but then they walked through the crowd and lots of people went to the front and stayed there. But it was ok because I went up and was able to touch Russell's hand!! He is always so nice and gives everyone a chance to interact! I was surprised at how.many people had never been to an Air Supply before!! I went every year to kings island in the 80's to see them. And I've seen them every other place in the area! This is the third time I was up close! They're Awesome!!

Any band that can keep playing since 1975 deserves respect. I always wanted to see them growing up but either I didn't have the money or the time. Now that I have I will tell you they still got it just like they did in the early 80s when I got into there music. I brought back memories for me when I was... Probably 12 13 years old when they where on fire touring everywhere.. I would definitely recommend going to see them if you can. They love there fans and they show it... Worth your time definitely.

I saw Air Supply in February in Palm Springs - loved the show and was introduced to their newest song "I Adore You" and totally fell in love with it. My son was getting married in May and we played that song at their wedding and I discovered they were performing at The Orleans where we regularly stay when visiting Las Vegas, so I immediately booked a flight and a week stay there and booked tickets to watch their performance. We were not disappointed. Totally loved them. Thank you.

I've always been an Air Supply fan ,but I never expected them to be as good as they were .I sing in a band ,and always wished I had a voice even 1/2 as good as Hitchcock. When he spoke ,he sounded a little raspy ,but when he sang he hit every note. That made it even more amazing. Have to say ,I've seen many concerts but this one was in the top 3. Hope the Sands casino brings them back again.

I really enjoyed the show. This is my second time watching it. It brings back memories. And it reminds me that, love is the greatest part of life and we must learn how to forgive no matter what the situation you’re in. It’s the hardest thing to do as a human, and that we should remember that God is love. Which reminds me of John 3:16, of the New Testament in the Bible.

I saw Air Supply in Morristown, New Jersey on February 29, 2020. I have always been a huge fan but this was the first time I saw them live. Excellent Show! Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell were on par with their voices. They both sound exactly like my 1983 greatest hits tape! Just wonderful! I am looking forward to seeing them again!

The guys were great but the sound was terrible. It sounded like a speaker was faulty. I saw them at the Palais , that was much better. Also ,the security on the night with their nuclear powered flash lights warning anyone holding up their camera phones caught anyone withing a 55

Metre radius in the beam which was really distracting

After the evening performance of Jesus Christ Superstar they would play in Coffee Bars, Pizza Parlors, and anywhere they could to hone their vocal skills and harmonies. Graham wrote constantly and, with the help of Superstar Pianist Frank Esler Smith, they recorded a few songs on cassette, one of which was “Love and Other Bruises.” After taking these demos to all the major record companies and being rejected by all of them but one — CBS Records — they signed a recording deal.

The album was recorded and mixed in a week and “Love and Other Bruises” was released as the first single and immediately shot to the top of the charts. The name of the group came from a dream Graham had — he saw a billboard with flashing lights all around it and the words “AIR SUPPLY’ in the center.

Five decades later, Air Supply is still 'Lost in Love' with their fans

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock sat down with ABC News' Phil Lipof.

When it comes to big, bold and beautiful love songs that withstand the test of time, few groups have done it better than Air Supply. From their hits “All Out of Love” and “Lost in Love” to every love song in-between, Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock have been recording hits and touring the world for almost 50 years.

“We’ve toured every year except COVID year since 1976. Without a stop,” Hitchcock told ABC News’ Phil Lipof.

The duo sat down with ABC News Live to look back at their multi-decade career, including the unlikely place it all began – at a 1975 production of the hit musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” in Australia.

“Neither of us had any musical background or any training of any kind,” Russell said. “But when we met, we knew something was going on because we’d sing between shows in ‘Superstar,’ and people would come by and go, ‘Wow, you guys sound amazing.’ We went on tour the next day after ‘Superstar’ closed. We had a No. 1 record in Australia.”

With their self-titled debut album, Air Supply catapulted to fame seemingly overnight. A year later, they were on a whirlwind tour as the opening act for Rod Stewart. But when the tour ended and the pair went back to Australia, as Hitchcock puts it, “we couldn’t get arrested.”

“We had seven in the band, I think. We were getting offered $200 a night to play,” Hitchcock said.

Hitchcock stayed with his sister in Melbourne, Australia, and was hired to do the occasional jingle. In Adelaide, Russell was still writing songs, one of which was “Lost in Love.”

“As soon as he played that to me – and I’ve been right two or three times when he played me a song just with guitar – and I went, ‘That’s a monster right there,’” Hitchcock said.

That hunch was right. Air Supply's 1980 release of the album “Lost in Love,” also featuring the songs “All Out of Love” and “Every Woman in the World,” changed everything for the band.

There were three more albums in the 1980s, another four in the '90s and three releases in the 2000s.

Now in their 70s, the legends are not slowing down. They are in the middle of yet another world tour and still performing around 120 shows per year, Hitchcock said. That brings that total to around 5,300 shows over the course of their career, Russell added.

Through it all, their music has become part of fans’ lives – especially during deeply personal moments.

“We had a young guy at a show. And he said, ‘I just came out to my dad, and he's disowned me. And I was actually thinking about killing myself. And I got put on one of your records,’ or something, ‘And I thought, whoa, you know, this is not worth any of this when I've got support from these guys’ songs.’ Not just our songs, but, you know – and those kind of things. You go, wow, this is, this is far beyond somebody paying 20 bucks for a concert and going home with somebody saying, ‘Oh, that was great.’ You know, actually changed somebody's lives,” Hitchcock said.

“We don’t take that for granted,” Hitchcock said.

Air Canada offers rebooking flexibility for flights around possible strike date

Air Canada AC-T is offering passengers who have booked flights around the date of a possible pilot strike next month some increased flexibility in rebooking their travel.

The airline says progress has been made in its negotiations and it hopes to reach a deal, but it still faces the possibility of a strike by its 5,400 pilots as early as Sept. 17.

The Air Line Pilots Association has not set a strike date, but the pilots have voted overwhelmingly to approve a strike mandate if an agreement on a new contract cannot be reached.

Under the airline’s policy, customers with tickets for travel between Sept. 15 and 23 can rebook on any other Air Canada flight with the same origin and destination up to Nov. 30 at no additional cost. Customers who want to cancel and rebook their travel for after that date will have their change fees waived but will have to pay any fare difference.

Travellers with bookings during the affected period may also cancel their flight and receive a credit for future travel.

Refunds will be available for customers with refundable tickets, but Air Canada says refunds will not be available for those with non-refundable tickets as the flights are scheduled to operate as normal.

The policy applies to all Air Canada-operated flights, including Air Canada mainline, Air Canada Rouge, Air Canada Express flights operated by Jazz or PAL Airlines, and Air Canada Vacations.

Cleveland National Air Show celebrates 60 years: Blue Angels at Burke Lakefront Airport this weekend

(Tribune News Service) — Labor Day weekend in these parts is synonymous with the Cleveland Air Show and 2024 is no exception. Headlined by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the aerial extravaganza returns for a three-day engagement Saturday, August 31 – Monday, September 2 at Burke Lakefront Airport.

Celebrating 60 “Loud & Proud” years, festival organizers have crammed the festivities full of thrill aviation fans – capping it off with six “Blues” demonstration pilots in their F/A-18 Super Hornets soaring through choreographed aerobatics demos along with team and solo maneuvers.

They’ll also have their fan favorite C-130 Hercules nicknamed “Fat Albert” in the mix.

Cleveland is among 30 select U.S. cities chosen to host the Blue Angels this year.

The decades old tradition has its roots in the old Cleveland National Air Races and has long featured military jet demos, gravity defying stunt aerobatics, parachuting and more.

In more recent years, it has also treated fans inside the Burke gates to interactive exhibits and a robust amount of display aircraft – along with education components and even comedy.

This year’s “high-energy civilian and military performances” will also include flybys of the F-15 “Strike Eagle” from Louisiana’s 159th Fighter Wing of their Air National Guard and the C-17 West Coast Demo Team and Boeing Globemaster III in rare demonstration.

There’s also a “farewell tour” demo of the A-10 (used for close air support of ground troops), the Northern Stars Aeroteam from Canada, Bill Stein’s color-changing Edge 540, the “Franklin’s Flying Circus” comedy act and Hot Streak II, a Jet Truck which must be seen (and heard) to be believed.

Speaking of seen and heard, two incredibly familiar faces – actors portraying “Ice” and “Mav” from a certain 80s blockbuster film – will also be milling about the show this year. Let’s just say they’ll have you humming Kenny Loggins and looking for a volleyball faster than you can say “Jester’s dead!”

No winging it with rich history, high-flying tradition

Planning for all these Cleveland Air Show attractions takes a lot of preparation. Air Show personnel starts at least 12-18 months in advance of the Labor Day weekend showtime – though with some of the moving parts involved, it’s closer to two years in pre-production.

“There isn’t much time to sit back and admire what’s been done,” said Cleveland Air Show executive director Kim Dell in an interview with Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.

Dell likened the festivities to when a Broadway show or play ends its run. They “strike the set” almost immediately, to allow normal air traffic at the airport to resume. Then on to the ledgers.

“We wrap the event, spent the next several weeks reconciling admissions, paying bills and sorting out what worked and could be improved upon logistically and then its literally on to the next one.”

There has been some confusion about who puts on the Cleveland Air Show every year according to Dell. The multi-day event is a “financially self-sufficient endeavor put on by a not-for-profit organization” that rises and falls with market forces, weather societal headwinds and scheduling.

(Case in point: a planned U.S. Marine Corps’ F-35 Lightning II demonstration will not take place as originally scheduled).

During the pandemic, organizers grounded the long-running event. Bad weather has offered similar challenges. If you think that going up in one of the jets could be nerve-wracking, Dell said you should know that folks on the ground are biting their nails, too – hoping all goes off without a hitch.

“I try not to even look at the weather until the week before, if not the week of the Air Show,” Dell laughed. “When we put that much time into planning and you have something like the pandemic happen, or bad weather wipe out all your hard work and gate admissions, it’s tough.”

Even though Cleveland has one of the larger and more storied air shows in the U.S. and is accommodated as such, Dell said that despite planning there’s still no guarantee that a jet team will be available when needed.

Dell also said that contrary to urban legend, jet teams and planes “don’t just show up” for free:

“A jet team is about six figures out the door.”

720 days until “Wheels Up!”

Two years out from a Cleveland Air Show, Dell and the organizers fill out what’s called a Department of Defense (or DOD) 2535 form – “Request for Military Aerial Support.” Once that happens, requests are made for jet teams, Tactical Demonstration (or TAC demos) and several factors are taken into consideration, including recruiting for the branch of service requested.

“It’s not like you just call up the Blue Angels and say, ‘Hey, come to Cleveland!’ We had to submit our 2026 DOD forms by July 1,” she said. “In that sense, we are already thinking about 2026 and our 2024 fans haven’t even hit the turnstiles yet.”

Dell said that ticketing logistics is a whole other stunt flight.

“Even though we have online ticketing, it can be more complex than hard-stock tickets. Because you now must build up this whole internet [outpost] to accommodate admissions,” she said.

“Not to mention electricity, once you get away from the [Burke] buildings a bit. There are a lot of logistics at play, building infrastructure… the organizational flow chart can get very complicated.”

Ticket sales directly support event production costs. The team then builds a budget – which is approved by the organization’s board of trustees – and then “we stick to that budget.”

Dell said that aside from all the planes in the air, there are a couple dozen planes on “static display,” with solicitations for those beginning in February. Those require their own unique planning strategy.

“We start with all the different bases and museums around the country that have planes that can fly in,” she said. “After all that, we work with the Federal Aviation Administration and have big meetings with the U.S. Coast Guard to keep the waterways clear for us. So, a lot of moving parts.”

The only thing missing? Santa’s sleigh

For as intense as the last 30-45 days before showtime goes, Dell and her small but mighty team love putting the works in overdrive. The wide-eyed, mouth agape reactions from attendees – who come from “dozens of states and several different countries” – makes it all worthwhile.

“We turn the airport into an amusement park for 60,000 – 100,000 people and we do it pretty quickly. But we wouldn’t trade that for anything. You’re kind of like Santa Claus, working 365 days a year toward this thing that comes once a year and gets everyone so excited.”

The Cleveland Air Show is presented by Discount Drug Mart and takes place Saturday, August 31 – Monday, September 2. Tickets and on-site parking for the events are only available in advance, through their online ticketing portal at clevelandairshow.com/ticketing. There are no gate sales.

Magic's Banchero to Join Tatum, Zion, Luka on China Tour with Jordan Brand

Paolo Banchero, the Orlando Magic's quick-ascending young star, continues to be a major player in the future of Jordan Brand.

As a part of the iconic brand's China Family Tour, Banchero will join NBA champion Jayson Tatum, fellow former Duke Blue Devil and No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson and Mavericks' superstar Luka Doncic to visit "pivotal locations in Shanghai and Beijing," according to a release from the brand.

The tour starts later this week and runs until September 2, per the release.

"This groundbreaking tour is more than just a series of events; it's a cultural experience aimed at connecting Jordan Brand athletes with the youth of China," the release said. The tour is an integral part of the brand's commitment to expanding the global influence of basketball, the release continued.

Tatum, Williamson and Doncic all have their own shoe line with the brand, while Banchero has been a frequent first choice to rollout new shoes in the signature Air Jordan line. During the playoffs, Banchero debuted the Air Jordan 39, which he later covered "SLAM KICKS" magazine with in August.

In a behind-the-scenes video from the cover shoot, Banchero showcased two "player edition" AJ39s that he will feature on the court this year, sporting his "P5" logo on the back.

The choice to include Banchero on the tour as one of the leaders of this generation of Jordan Brand basketball athletes further signifies the belief that he's on a path to more recognition. As he enters his third season in the NBA, Jordan Brand sees him as at or near the same level of importance of NBA champions, MVP candidates and can't-miss players.

It's a byproduct of his and his team's success, both now and for the projected future. As he's at the forefront of product rollouts and becomes more prominent in both the league and the big picture of the Jordan Brand, more recognition could be on the way.

"This tour represents a historic moment as these athletes bring the essence of Jordan Brand to China, emphasizing our dedication to growing the game and the culture that Michael Jordan made global," the release said.

CNN’s Dana Bash to Interview Harris and Walz on Thursday

The joint interview, airing at 9 p.m. Eastern, is the first time the vice president will face sustained questions from a journalist since President Biden withdrew from the race.

Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to her first major interview since she became the presumptive Democratic nominee for president five weeks ago.

Ms. Harris will appear on CNN alongside her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, for a joint interview on Thursday in Georgia. Dana Bash, the CNN anchor who co-moderated the debate in June between President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump, will conduct the interview.

CNN plans to tape the joint appearance on Thursday afternoon and air it that evening at 9 Eastern time.

The question of where and when Ms. Harris would sit for an extensive discussion with the mainstream media has started to loom over her candidacy. She has shown little enthusiasm for speaking with reporters in unscripted settings, outside of a handful of impromptu sessions on the campaign trail that left little opportunity for sustained questioning about her policy plans.

Her allies say that, given the accelerated nature of her candidacy, Ms. Harris is being shrewd about her media rollout. She took advantage of last week’s prime-time Democratic National Convention to keep tight control over how she introduces herself to American voters.

Ms. Harris’s critics, especially Mr. Trump, say she has been hiding from scrutiny. Mr. Trump, who has done a flurry of interviews with a variety of traditional and nontraditional media outlets, has repeatedly accused the vice president of not wanting to open herself up to questions.

Within the TV news world, Thursday’s interview is a coveted prize for Ms. Bash and CNN, which has already played a consequential role in this year’s campaign. The network’s debate in June, with Ms. Bash and Jake Tapper as moderators, set off a panic among Democrats that led to Mr. Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

In choosing which news anchor to meet with first, Ms. Harris and her aides had to juggle several factors.

Appearing on MSNBC, a network with a fervent liberal fan base, could have been viewed by some voters as a cop-out. Democratic leaders are wary of Fox News. ABC News is already hosting next month’s debate between Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump, and CBS News is hosting the vice-presidential debate on Oct. 1 between Mr. Walz and Mr. Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio.

Ms. Bash, 53, the anchor of “Inside Politics” on CNN, started at the network as a producer shortly after graduating from college; she has been a stalwart of the channel’s campaign coverage since 2000. Ms. Bash and Mr. Tapper received praise for their efforts at the June debate, where they played a muted role as the candidates clashed onstage.
