Ganpatipule Travel Guide | A Hidden Konkan Gem | Mumbai to Ganpatipule

GanpatiPule Beach

Mumbai to GanpatiPule- There is nothing to beat a Konkan getaway if you want to drink in the beauty of lush greens, clear, sparkling waters of pristine white beaches, and ancient, colorful temples each of which has a unique story to tell.

We decided to go on a road trip to Ganpatipule, a charming beach town on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra that had everything to offer to tourists of all kinds. A haven for beach lovers, the in-place for adventure lovers, and a resort for the religious-minded, Ganpatipule was sure-shot key to a refreshing and rejuvenating holiday.

What is so Special about the Place?

Ganpatipule lies at a distance of 342 km from Mumbai. Apart from its white pristine beach, Ganpatipule is best known for its 400-year-old Lord Ganesha temple. The temple houses a self-manifested idol of the Lord which is carved out of a huge rock. The ‘swayambhu’ idol was discovered several hundred years ago.

Another important feature of this place is that it still remains untouched by commercialism and hence becomes a perfect idyllic resort for people of all ages. Besides, adventure sports which are being offered during specific months of the year become an added pull for the brave hearts.

I recommend you to check out our exclusive Konkan Trip blog done on the bullet.

Best Time to Embark on Your Journey

Ganpatipule enjoys a warm and humid climate and therefore, the best time to visit this place is during the winter months. The weather is pleasantly cool around this period and hence November to February forms the best months to pay a visit. It is advisable to carry light woolens along with you.

Another good time to visit the place is during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. This is the time when weeklong festivities are held in the entire town and processions of Lord Ganesha are taken out around the place.

Monsoons are best avoided as the area experiences heavy showers during the rainy season.

How to Reach by Road?

There are two route options to reach Ganpatipule if you are travelling by road.  The first option is:

  • Mumbai to Ganpatipule via NH 66

This route covers Rasayani, Kolad, Khed, Chiplun, Kalambaste to reach Ganpatipule. The total distance required to travel is about 343 km under this route and will need around 7 hours or so to reach your destination.

  • Mumbai to Ganpatipule via NH 48

This route covers Rasayani, Lonavala, Pune, Satara, Karad, Shahuwadi to reach Ganpatipule. The total distance to travel under this route is about 469 km and will need around 8 hours plus to reach your destination.

We had embarked from Mumbai in our vehicle and had a halt-over at Mahad to visit my grandparents. We began the next day morning and traveled via the NH66 route. Since we had a stopover at Mahad it was a relatively shorter distance to reach Ganpatipule having already traveled part of the way.

Getting Around

You can avail rickshaws or cabs or you can also obtain bicycles or motorbikes on hire. Chauffeur driven cars are also available.

Types of Accommodation Available

Ganpatipule has accommodation catering to all budgets ranging from decent homestays, lodges to luxurious hotel rooms. Today, though there are a number of luxury villas or laidback homestays the place has not lost its original ethos.

We had stayed at the MTDC holiday resort which had cottages adjoining the white sands of the beach. It is one of the best places to stay as you get mesmerizing views and sounds of the splashing sea waves, just a short distance away from your room. At night time the sea waves sing a soothing lullaby and you wake up to the faint sounds of the temple bells ringing early in the morning.

Besides the spellbinding view from the cottage, the main temple of Lord Ganesha is also very close by. The meals offered by the resort are delicious and scrumptious too with an option of veg. and non-veg fare.

Type of Food Available

You can relish some good Maharashtrian fare, both veg, and non-veg kind. Kokam curry, fish curry or sweets like ‘phanaspoli’ and ‘ambapoli’ are a few of the dishes that you must taste besides the famed steamed ‘modaks’ and Alphonso mangoes.

Things to do

  • Visiting Beaches
  • Visiting Temples
  • Water Sport Activities

Ganpatipule is a town that is thronged largely by the religious-minded and those needing to relax in the lap of nature. Since the town is not yet commercialized in a big way shopping is limited to souvenir shopping or shopping for decorative seashell pieces or relics.

However, if you visit the place during the summer season then you can shop for the famed and popular Alphonso mangoes which can be got for very cheap prices as compared to those in big metros like Mumbai and Pune.

Water Sports

If you want to obtain an adrenalin rush you need to head to the varied water sports offered by the MTDC resort in Ganpatipule. These are available beginning from the month of November and continue till May.

The strong-hearted can test their strength through the exciting row-boating ride in the beach water or you can get a James Bond to feel whizzing through the sea waters on a water scooter or motorboat. Banana boating activity is best for family groups. You can also go paragliding, kayaking in addition to enjoying the camel and horse rides offered on the beach.

  • Remember to have a stock of drinking water with you for the day while you indulge in water sports.
  • Select only those operators equipped with all the necessary safety equipment.
  • Do some stretching exercises before you go for the water sport activities.

Places to Visit

1) ganapati temple.

The ‘swayambhu’ temple of Lord Ganesha is one of the top attractions of this place. The temple is located at the base of a hill adjoining the beach. The unique feature of the temple is that its presiding deity stands facing in the westward direction unlike those in other temples.

The idol of Lord Ganapati placed in the sanctum sanctorum which rides on a lion is made of copper while the self-manifested idol is made from a single huge rock. The placement of the deity is such that during sunset time, the idol is engulfed in a beautiful glow cast by the setting sun.

The timings of the temple range from 6 am to 9 pm.

2) Velneshwar Temple

Velneshwar which lies about 37 km from Ganpatipule is well-known for its ancient Lord Shiva temple. There are several shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Vishnu and Kala Bhairav in the complex. The temple witnesses a big crowd of devotees during Mahashivratri.

Another spot of attraction here is the Velneshwar beach. With Ganpatipule and Guhagar beaches adjoining on both sides, this beach with its virgin sands, smooth shoreline and swaying coconut palms is also a big pull for tourists. You can enjoy some good local cuisine here.

3) Ganpatipule Beach

The Ganpatipule beach is an idyllic location for all beach lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The pure white sands of this pristine beach, the clear waters of the sea, the mesmerizing sunsets, and the ringing bells of the Ganapati Temple close by offering a soothing ambiance to every visitor. The beach attracts a lot of visitors who wish to relax and experience some quiet moments in the midst of nature.

However, the waters are known to be treacherous and visitors are warned not to step into the sea.

As for the food variety, you can have your fill at any of the veg or non-veg restaurants in the area.

  • If you are planning on spending some peaceful moments on the beach avoid visiting the place during important Ganapati festivals or peak season.
  • Remember to don comfy clothes and footwear while on your visit.

Other nearby Beaches

If you want to taste more of the beach environment there are two more beaches close to Ganpatipule. These are the Bhandarpule beach and the Aare Ware beach which lie at a distance of 3.5 km and 9 km respectively from Ganpatipule.

Aare and Ware are two unspoiled beaches with clear blue waters and smooth sands while the sea waters of the Bhandarpule beach have a bluish-green hue to it. If one wants to go far away from the maddening crowds then these are the places to go. The utter solitude and peace that exists here can exist nowhere. And how can one forget the mesmerizing views of the sunset at the beaches here! They remain forever etched in your memory.

1) PrachinKonkan Museum

Another interesting place to visit is the PrachinKonkan Museum, an open-air museum that lies at a distance of about 1 km from the Ganpatipule beach.

The museum spans an area of 3 acres and showcases the way of life of the locals. It provides a glimpse into the Maratha history and has several sculptures of the Maratha ruler, ShivajiMaharaj as well as models of the majestic sea-forts of the region.

Another unique exhibit of this open-air museum is the Nakshatra Baug where each sun sign is depicted by a garden of trees. The museum is also a treat for bird lovers being home to a wide variety of bird species.

Entrance Fee: Rs 40 per individual (guide included)

Timings: 8.30 am to 6 pm

2) Jaigad Fort

The Jaigad fort which was once a strategic location of the Maratha Empire is located at a distance of around 14 km from Ganpatipule. Standing tall on a cliff, the fort offers a commanding view of the Arabian Sea and the ships sailing by.

Though the fort is largely in ruins, the stunning view more than makes up for the climb! The existence of a decent tar road enables you to drive up to the entrance of the fort.

The Jaigad lighthouse which is located close-by also needs to form a part of your visit.

Timings: 9 am to 4.30 pm

  • It is best to visit the fort during broad daylight.
  • It is advisable to travel in groups from a safety point of view in the absence of security guards at the site.
  • Carry a stock of water during your visit.
  • Walk carefully watching your steps.

The small hamlet of Malgund which lies at a distance of around 2.4 km from Ganpatipule is the birthplace of the famed Marathi poet KaviKeshavsoot. Interested visitors can pay a visit to his home which is now transformed into a student hostel. A memorial has been constructed in the poet’s honor hereby the Marathi SahityaParishad.

4) Thibaw Palace

The Thibaw Palace which once upon a time housed King Thibaw of Myanmar during the period of his exile is a must-visit site. It is at a distance of about 25 km from Ganpatipule and is a perfect spot for picnickers. The place offers stunning views of the sunset.

Must-Visit Sites along the Way

If you happen to drive your own vehicle as we did you can definitely take some time out to visit the following mentioned sites along the way.

1) Parashurama Temple at Chiplun

On your way to Ganpatipule, you can pay a quick visit to the Parshuram Temple located at Chiplun. The temple architecture is a blend of Hindu, Muslim and European styles; a one of a kind in the country. The sanctum houses three idols, the idol of Lord Parshuram, (the 6 th incarnation of Vishnu) lies in the center with idols of Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma on each of its sides.

2) ‘Shivasrushti’ of Dervan

A detour of 2 km from Savarde village on the Mumbai-Goa highway will take you to this place. The place showcases important events in the life of Maratha ruler ShivajiMaharaj through the form of sculptures.

The sculptures which have been etched on the walls of the Shivasamartha fort bring the historical events to life and leave you dazed and mesmerized at the skill of the artisans. The museum was created in honor of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by social worker Sitarambuva Walavalkar.

Timings: 8 am to 6 pm

On a Concluding Note

We stayed at Ganpatipule for a couple of days and headed directly back to Mumbai refreshed and rejuvenated and loaded with a bagful of memories!

How to Reach Ganpatipule from Mumbai - A Personal Guide

Ganpatipule is a small beach town located on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. Known for its pristine beaches and the 400-year-old Ganpati Temple, it makes for an ideal weekend getaway from Mumbai.

As someone who has made this journey several times, here is my personal guide on how to reach Ganpatipule from Mumbai in the most convenient way.

How to Reach Ganpatipule from Mumbai

Driving down to Ganpatipule is one of the most popular and convenient ways to reach there from Mumbai. The route passes through some incredibly scenic stretches and takes around 9 hours to cover the distance of 342 km.

Here is the preferred route you can take:

Start from Mumbai and get on to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This is a smooth 6-lane expressway that cuts down travel time significantly.

After crossing Pune, continue on NH48 towards Kolhapur. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition as this stretch has fast-moving traffic.

Once you cross Kolhapur, take the turn for NH204 which branches off NH48. This road passes through the breathtaking ghats of the Western Ghats. Drive cautiously as the road is narrow with several tricky hairpin bends.

At Vaibhavwadi, turn left onto the road for Ganpatipule (SH114). From here it's a straight road through coastal towns like Ratnagiri and Jaigad. The last stretch from Jaigad to Ganpatipule is especially scenic.

You'll reach Ganpatipule in about 9 hours from Mumbai if you take minimal breaks. I recommend stopping for lunch at Kolhapur or Ratnagiri.

For those who prefer trains over road journeys, the Konkan Railway provides direct rail connectivity between Mumbai and Ganpatipule.

Here are the details:

Catch a train from Mumbai (LTT, CST, Dadar or Thane) going towards Ratnagiri/Kudal/Madgaon. Some good options are the Mandovi Express, Konkan Kanya Express, or Jan Shatabdi Express.

Alight at Ratnagiri station. This is the nearest railhead to Ganpatipule, around 35 km away.

From Ratnagiri, you can either take a taxi or bus to reach Ganpatipule. Buses are more economical but tend to take longer. Pre-paid and private taxis are quicker.

Total journey time will be around 10-12 hours with this route. Carry snacks and meals during the train journey.

The nearest airport is at Chipi-Parule which is about 28 km from Ganpatipule. It has very limited flight connectivity with Mumbai as of now. But if you do get a direct flight, it's the fastest way to reach in just over an hour.

Take a flight from Mumbai to Chipi-Parule Airport

Hire a pre-paid taxi from the airport to reach Ganpatipule in less than 30 minutes.

Where to Stay

Ganpatipule has accommodation options for all budgets - from homestays and lodges to luxury resorts.

For a peaceful stay try beach resorts like Are Villa, Jaigad Beach Resort, etc. which have cottages facing the sea.

MTDC Resort is a mid-range option with decent amenities.

There are also many budget hotels and lodges, especially near the Ganpati Temple.

Homestays with local families let you experience the culture closely.

I recommend booking in advance during peak seasons. Nivali, Konkan Bhumi, and MakeMyTrip are good sites to find and compare Ganpatipule hotels.

Getting Around

Ganpatipule is a small town that can be easily covered on foot. You can walk around the main temple area, Gandhi Maidan, and the beaches.

To visit other beaches like Aare-Ware, walk or take an auto-rickshaw. Agree on the fare before getting on.

To visit nearby towns, you can hire a taxi or self-drive a rental car. Head out towards Jaigad Fort, Prachin Konkan Museum, Malgund village, etc.

Motorbikes are also available for rent but drive carefully on the narrow coastal roads.

Places to See

Here are the top attractions in Ganpatipule:

Ganpati Temple  - The prime landmark housing a 400-year-old idol of Lord Ganesha.

Ganpatipule Beach  - The main beach stretch is lined with small shops and eateries. Safe for swimming.

Also read - Why Ganpatipule Beach Can Be Risky for Swimmers

Prachin Konkan  - A museum displaying the history and culture of the Konkan region.

Jaigad Fort  - A 17th-century seaside fort with a rich maritime history.

Malgund Village  - Quaint Konkani village is famous for its sol kadi, a popular curry-based appetizer.

Aare Ware Shooting Spot  - Site of several Bollywood movie shootings.

Water Sports  - Banana boat rides, jet-skis, speed boats, etc. available at the beaches.

Food to Try

Konkan cuisine is dominated by flavorful coconut-based curries and seafood. Don't miss these local delicacies in Ganpatipule:

Sol Kadhi  - A pink appetizer drink made with coconut milk and kokum. Have fried fish.

Kokam Kadi  - Fish curry with a tangy kokum gravy.

Malvani Mutton  - Spicy mutton preparation with coconut, pepper, and recheado masala.

Bangda Fry  - Fresh caught mackerel shallow fried with spices.

Konkan Kombdi - Chicken curry redolent with aromas of coconut, coriander, and black pepper.

Alphonso Mango Ice Cream  - This sweet treat during summer is made from the heavenly Alphonso mangoes.

Seafood lovers must try the fresh catch of the day including prawns, lobsters, pomfret, etc. Veg options are also available everywhere.

Best Time to Visit

Ganpatipule has a hot and humid climate for most of the year. The best seasons are:

Winter (November-February)  - Pleasant weather in the 60s. Perfect for enjoying the beaches.

Monsoons (June-August)  - Offers a different experience with lush green hills and raging sea. Far fewer tourists.

Summer (March-May)  - Warm and humid weather with temperatures in the 80s. Budget hotels offer attractive discounts.

Avoid visiting during the monsoon months of July-August due to potential heavy rainfall and roadblocks.

Travel Tips

From my experience, here are some handy tips for your Ganpatipule trip:

Carry light cotton clothes, hats, shades, and sunscreen.

Keep mosquito repellent handy as it can get humid.

Drink lots of water and coconut water to stay hydrated.

Carry basic medicines for motion sickness, headaches, allergies, etc.

Make sure you have sufficient cash, there are not many ATMs.

Travel in groups for safety, especially if you are female.

Check for travel updates online to avoid any unplanned surprises.

Interact with the locals - they give the best food recommendations.

Why Visit Ganpatipule?

In spite of being a small sleepy town, Ganpatipule has a special charm because of its pristine beaches, magical sunrises and sunsets, friendly locals, and delicious local cuisine. It is the perfect antidote to unwind from the stress of city life. The trip also provides a fascinating glimpse into traditional Konkan culture.

For me, it's the soothing sound of waves, unbelievable coastal views, and the divine presence at the Ganpati temple that keep calling me back. I hope this guide gives you all the motivation to plan that long impending trip to Ganpatipule.

Weekend Getaway From Mumbai To Ganapatipule

Ganapatipule Temple

First we visited the Ganpatipule Ganesh Temple, we were touched by its simplicity and busy but silent ambience. The temple holds it is very own uniqueness - the idol is a self emerged structure.

As the sun was still up there, we took a chance to break for chai and snacks. There are lot of shacks to treat with snacks and coconut water for refreshment.

We held our ground viewing the sun till dusk and enjoying this leisure time.

It is an amazing view if you get a jet skie ride during this time with sun closing down on the sea. (Other Water sports are also available if you are interested).

After we had spent some amazing time at the beach, the next stop was dinner. We decided on the MTdC restaurant Tarang to treat us with the coastal delight. And they didn't disappoint us. The food was too class, because we were so close to the sea, we were sure of getting fresh and awesome seafood. The food took time to come but was worth of wait.

Few recommendation in starters which are my personal favourite are, Surmai and pomfret tawa fry, prawns Koliwada, and Solkadi (refreshment drink).

The main course too was delightful, the fish curry and steamed rice happens to be the best combination. We also ordered for a single seafood thali that allows us to decide on the fish we want. Our stomach was full but the taste buds were marinated with the Malvan masala and already were asking for more.

And the hogging Continued....

Day two of my getaway from Mumbai to Ganapatipule was planned well as we had only come here for the weekend. We started with a dip in the sea. The water was cold but the sun was bright and helped us keep warm. We wandered across the beach like there is no end to this time... A rather unknowing friend met us at the beach, this was a conconut vendor, he treated us with his warm welcome and gave us super cool coconuts to drink. He not treated us but also made a small souvenir for us. This was something unusual and very skilful we saw. He made cricket bats out of coconut scraps. He kept the crowd pulling to his stall by this and welcomed them warm heartedly. Cool stuff.

As we enjoyed the tender cocunut and moved along, and after a refreshing breakfast, we planned to go the museum which was also in a walkable distance 10 min from the Hotel.

The prachin Konkan guide gave us a brief description of the various professions and botanical benefits of the plants in the arena. It was a nicely made and restaurants served the giant Modaks for which we were craving for.

It was layered with mouth watering shudh Ghee.. "You need a silver fork to enjoy good food."

We ventured through the area spending more time on various stalls.

It was then time for lunch, and then we had our train scheduled for Mumbai. Not thinking much, the best option was again the MTDC restaurant, Tarang. The appetite was there, and we enjoyed the most beautiful weekend enjoying the sea view and eating sea food.

I would never mind coming from Mumbai to Ganapatipule again. If you can manage a stay in MTDC, it would be the most amazing weekend spend. It offers you everything from view to food.

As all good things come to an end, we had to say good bye to this place and take off for Mumbai. This place is definately a destress zone and way away from the hush bush of the city. It gives you cleaner air and gives a smile for your lungs. With good people all around giving you warm welcome, and with beautiful landscape to make you Awww and then food that makes your trip endlessly delicious ..... I rate it as one of best travel experience I ever had ... :):):):):) (Five smiles)

At an hour's distance from Ratnagiri is a place called Ganpatipule, that gives a very serene view and experience of the Konkan Belt. Here are the details of my trip from Mumbai to Ganapatipule.

I am trying out rails this time and not the roads to travel.

I am writing this in middle of the trip and the best part till now has been the train Journey from Mumbai to Ganapatipule.

We booked seats in the Tejas train through IRCTC site. For me, this happened to be the most sorted experience touring indian trains.

The train provides comfort seatings, food, beverages just like any another flight does. The highlight of all is a small personal screen with cool User interface fitted on each seat that has mix of music, movies and others.

You can enjoy them with the pair of your own headsets or they provide you for a charge of RS 20. A port to charge your electronic devices is also available on each seat. This is - the most equipped distance train of Indian Rails.

I can add a five star to this experience. Check the gadget in the below pic.

The train runs to and fro from CST to Karmali (north Goa). We got into the train at 6.30 am at Panvel and we reached Ratnagiri by 11 am. 4 hours - that's it!

Ratnagiri to Ganpatiphule:

We did our booking beforehand and therefore we avoided any last moment negotiation on transport and hotel booking. This cool rickshaw driver took us to Ganpatiphule for 500rs. The fare is comparatively ok for a 41 km ride. We halted on the way to capture the beauty that welcomed us.

Where To Stay On Your Trip From Mumbai To Ganapatipule

ShreeSagar Hotel: The location is at walkable distance from the beach and close to the Mtdc resort. Hotel has been good till now and we had a decent Veg lunch at this hotel itself. ( This hotel serves only veg). The climate here is so chilled and you will always have a chilled wind blowing even during day time. We would have the fans too switched off and air conditioning was not required at all in this season.

With the pleasant climate still to our company, we planned to catch up some rest and go for a sunset view at the beach which is 7 min walking distance from this hotel.

MUMBAI GOA ROAD TRIP – THE COASTAL ROUTE

' src=

Road trips are fun to explore new places. India encompasses numerous spots across different parts throughout the country. So, it doesn’t matter which part of the country one lives in, there is always an option of planning a road trip in India.

We did a 10 days motorcycle road trip from Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai via the Coastal Route traversing through scenic seaside villages with endless stretches overlooking the sea. Ride on the sea with your vehicle loaded on a ferry and feel the sea breeze showering you with salted kisses. The coastal route is worth an experience.

This route is less explored as it takes much more time than the other two popular routes of Mumbai Goa Highway (NH66) and Mumbai-Pune-Bangalore Highway (NH4). If you are a traveller and like to roam the roads just like us, this route is for you.

In this article, we will guide you through the coastal route and share our experiences which can help you plan this beautiful road trip.

Table of Contents

DAY 1 – MUMBAI TO HARIHARESHWAR

Route – Mumbai~Kashid~Murud Janjira~Agardanda~Dighi~Harihareshwar (222 kms)

Ferry Point – Agardanda to Dighi Port. (From 8 am every one hour till 9:30 pm)

Our stay on day 1 was at Harihareshwar. You can also plan to finish your day at Shrivardhan which is around 20 kms before Harihareshwar.

Once you hit NH66, just before Karnala there are many breakfast options. We ate at Joshi Wadewale serving authentic Maharashtrian breakfast. Puneri misal is a must try.

Move ahead to Alibaug via Vadkhal junction on NH66. The coastal route begins from here. Skip the halt at Alibag as it can be easily explored any other day from Mumbai. Around 30 kms from Alibag and on the way towards Murud Janjira is Kashid Beach . There are lots of shacks with hammocks offering snacks, cold drinks, and coconut water. You can relax here for some time.

If you are looking for a more secluded beach, then skip Kashid and ride 15 minutes further to Nandgaon Beach . A peaceful and silent place with clean water. Good place to relax in shade of the coconut trees. There are not many eateries here.

We took our first ferry at 1:15pm from Agardanda jetty. It drops at Dighi Port situated on the bank of Rajpuri creek in 15 minutes. From here, Harihareshwar is 48 kms. Road from Dighi is under construction but still a manageable ride.

Sadguru Krupa Khanaval (7350380167) on Dighi road serves homemade meals at a reasonable price. We tried veg & non veg thali. Food was simple and tasty.

Harihareshwar Beach is a stretch of calm and serene waters with unpolluted cool breeze wafting along the sea-shore. After a long ride, this is a perfect place to spend the evening. Visit the 16th century historic Harihareshwar Temple located on the coast. It offers a great combination of natural beauty with spiritual enhancement.

DAY 2 – HARIHARESHWAR to GANPATIPULE

Route – Harihareshwar~Bagmandla~Vesvi~Harnai~Ladghar~Dabhol~Dhopave~Guhagar~Tavsal~ Jaigad~Ganpatipule (164 kms)

Ferry Point-

  • Bagmandla to Vesvi (From 7:30 am every 1 hour)
  • Dabhol to Dhopave (From 6:45 am every 45 min)
  • Tavsal to Jaigad (From 6:40 am every 1 hour)

Day 2 is all about ferry crossing. There are 3 ferries to cross. We took the first ferry at 10:30 am. We were late as we spent the morning doing photography at Harihareshwar.

After a 30 minutes ride, you reach Bagmandla Jetty . The ferry crosses the river Savitri and drops you to another side called Vesvi in 5-10 minutes. It saves you almost 30-40 kms of ride.

Once you reach Vesvi, you need to head towards Dabhol Jetty via Kelshi~Harnai~Murud~route. This is a wonderful stretch of internal village roads. There are many places where you would like to stop and take your time to admire the views and take photographs. Of course you should, as you are roaming the roads to enjoy the journey, aren’t you?

We took our 2nd ferry from Dabhol at 3:45 pm which dropped us at Dhopave in 10 minutes. From here, your next destination is Tavsal Jetty which is 50 kms away. And then, 22 kilometers more and you reach Ganpatipule.

We would like to share a small experience here. It was already 4:30 pm when we left for Tavsal. Our concern was whether we would be able to catch the 6:40 pm ferry. Missing this means waiting for another one hour. The roads were pretty good but narrow with a lot of hairpin turns and for miles we were the only souls to be seen. You can imagine the thrill of riding alone.

It was just when we were soaked in our aloneness, climbing the ghats we came across two young cyclists who were slowly pedaling their way up. I slowed down the bike and initiated a quick conversation. Cycling all the way from Mumbai they were also going to Goa. This was their first bicycle trip. They too were heading towards the jetty. I informed them about the ferry timings. Cheering them up I accelerated. We wish we could stop and listen to their on road experiences, but we did not want to miss the ferry.

We reached the jetty 15 minutes before time. There were not many passengers. We were waiting for the ferryman to allow us in. And when he did, I got up to start my motorcycle and unexpectedly the cyclists turned up just before the ferry was about to leave. And there we were, stretching ourselves and one of them sharing their experiences as the ferry started moving with the wind gently kissing our faces. Their story reflected courage and determination. It was a good feeling to meet these inspiring souls.

After a 20 minutes of ferry ride, we reached Jaigad Jetty. Knowing we wouldn’t meet again, bidding them goodbye we parted our ways.

We reached Ganpatipule at 8:30 pm.

DAY 3 – GANPATIPULE to TARKARLI

Route – Ganpatipule~AareWare~Pawas~Devgad~Tarkarli (181 kms)

No more ferry crossing. Right till you reach Malvan, ride on this beautiful stretch with wonderful views of lush greens, clear, sparkling waters of pristine white beaches, and ancient colorful temples each of which has a unique story to tell.

Before you begin the ride, visit the 400 year old famous Ganpatipule Temple situated on the beach.  Around 1 km from the temple is Prachin Konkan Museum . This is an open air museum featuring sculptures depicting traditional konkan life and culture. A trip to Ganpatipule without visiting this is incomplete.

After a 30 minutes of ride, you will reach a combination of two beaches Aare & Ware which are located next to each other. The stretch is so breathtaking. Definitely a must halt. There is a certain freedom in finding a small piece of the world that belongs only to you, if only for a short time.

There are many places on this route where you would like to stop. Visit some villages on the route. Talk to the locals, fishermen. The people of Konkan are very helpful and humble.

Other places to explore enroute – Devgad & Kunkeshwar

We reached Malvan at 7:00 pm. Our stay was at Ghar Malvankarache (8600381490) – a homestay run by a humble family. They have budget friendly rooms which are clean and comfortable. But above all the food is just awesome. I tried Prawns Masala with Malvani Vade. It was simply delicious. Next day morning for breakfast, Archana aunty served us Ghavane with Cocunut chutney. Whenever I visit Malvan again, I am definitely going to eat here.

DAY 4 – EXPLORE MALVAN

A day is not enough to explore Malvan. Malvan is a kind of place that makes you want to stay on forever if possible – with the waves and the sands, the trees and the stars. But even if you are here for a day or two, you will take back something- if nothing else a snapshot of a unique seashell on a mesmerizing beach.

Take a leisurely walk through the villages, when sunlight filters in through the palms. You will pass women sorting dried fish outside their homes. Give them a smile and you will surely receive it back. This little Konkan town has a bustling jetty with a tangle of boats and roof tiled homes where the scent of wood smoke and aromas of fish curry drift into your memories.

Places you shouldn’t miss to see – Tarkarli Beach , Chiwla Beach , Deobagh Village & Sindhudurg Fort

If you love watersports, then indulge yourself in Scuba Diving , Dolphin Safari and other water activities held here.

DAY 5 – TARKARLI to GOA

Route – Tarkarli~Vengurla~Shiroda~Goa (109 kms)

It was time to go GOA. We were excited.

As we were riding towards Vengurla past peeping palm trees, towards a turn I heard a voice which seemed familiar to me. I turned to see and it was just what we hadn’t expected. There they were: the two cyclists. We were happy to meet them once again.

We used different modes of transport while roaming the roads but we could connect with each other the joy of enjoying the road trips. Road trips are full of surprises, isn’t it? Who knows, we could even meet in Goa.

Keep riding 50 kms till you reach Vengurla. Leisurely ride past the village in the shadow of the verdant plantations of cashewnuts, mango and coconut trees.

Around 3 km from the Vengurla market, Sagareshwar Beach is hidden away behind rows of tall casuarinas swaying in the wind. A small temple of Sagareshwara (Lord of the Sea) is located on the beach.

Located at the end of a winding hilly road and about a 45 minute ride from Sagareshwar is Shiroda Beach. A less explored and virgin region of the Konkan, Shiroda beach is carpeted with silvery white sands, cool blue waters and gentle sea breeze.

Other places to explore enroute – Nivati Beach , Redi Beach & Sawantwadi

We reached Goa at 4 pm. Our stay was in Anjuna, North Goa. Having checked in our guest house and freshening up, we spent the evening at Vagator Beach. If you are a party going person; then this is definitely the place for you with rave parties going till the wee hours of night. We somehow managed to find our small corner of happiness on this crowded beach

DAY 6, 7 & 8 – GOA, GOA & ONLY GOA

Hurray!! Finally in Goa. Yes, the much awaited destination. You have to plan these 3 days well depending on where you wish to stay between North & South Goa. These will again depend on your travel taste and what you want to experience in Goa. For peace and solitude, and offbeat experiences, head to South Goa.

We will share in short how we spent our 3 days in Goa –

Day 1 – We explored places which were near our guest house from Anjuna. Overall distance covered 40 kms exploring Baga beach, Sinquerim Fort, Reis Magos Fort, Fontainhas & Chapora. You must try Fruit Salad with Ice Cream at Scarlet Juice Centre, Chapora.

Day 2 – This day we rode 85 kms to South Goa to experience kayaking in the backwaters of Cola Beach . Cola beach is one of those offbeat destinations, where the beautiful blue lagoon meets the unstoppable wave of the Arabian sea.

You can rent a kayak for 30 minutes to surf through the backwater at Rs 150 only.

On your way back to North Goa, if you are able to reach before dusk take the route through Parra Road .  Lined with palm trees and fields on both sides, end your day watching the magical sunset.

Day 3 – An impulsive decision and we were riding towards Ribandar Jetty from where a ferry (free of cost) would take us to Chorao Island . Having done with beaches we wanted to explore something different. It seemed we had escaped into a sleepily quaint, laid-back and picturesque village from a different era with its Portuguese-styled manors and churches. It is also home to the offbeat Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary .

Once done with the island, we headed straight towards Morjim Beach to have lunch at Smoke Fish Cafe (8975557019) The restaurant is run by a family on the terrace serving authentic Goan homemade cuisine. One of the best foods we had in Goa.

We ended our last day shopping at Anjuna Flea Market and then taking a quiet walk on Anjuna Beach retrospecting on our journey from day one. This road trip had been one of the best things in life we had experienced.

Two more days on the road still…. The journey was not over yet.

DAY 9 – GOA to MURUD (DAPOLI)

Route – Goa~Kankavli~Chiplun~Khed~Dapoli~Murud (392 kms)

This was a long ride for us. Almost did 400 kms. We took NH66, the four lane Mumbai-Goa highway till Khed and then took a diversion towards Dapoli.

When we had halted at Sangameshwar for lunch, we decided not to stay in any of the hotels on the highway but instead chose to ride a few extra kilometers and stay on the beach. It was as if the sea was calling us back to the coastal route. So I called Aviraj Niwas, a homestay at Murud Beach in Dapoli where I had stayed earlier and immediately booked a room.

The highway is in good condition from Goa to Kankavli and you will enjoy riding on this four lane highway cruising at 60 kmph. After Lanja the road turns into a two lane. And you have to ride carefully as the road widening work is in progress and there are diversions every few meters.

These bumpy roads were tiring for both of us. But as soon as we left the highway and took a diversion to Dapoli we felt relief. We were once again riding on the coastal route. The sky at the sunset formed a perfect backdrop for a ride along the winding road. And in no time the moon slowly climbed up and casted its silvery reflection.

DAY 10 – MURUD (DAPOLI) to MUMBAI

Route – Murud~Dapoli~Mandangad~Tol Phata~Mangaon~Mumbai (250 kms)

Tired, but still we got up early in the morning as we had to go to Murud Beach for Dolphin Safari. We decided on this at dinner last night while talking to our host. He assured us that dolphins are guaranteed to be seen. So we thought of taking a chance. We did see a few of them after a long wait in the middle of the sea. The ferryman was kind enough not to drop us at shore without the sighting of dolphins.

Murud is a small town with a scenic and long stretch of beach dotted with crab holes and swaying palms. It also has many beach resorts situated amidst coconut plantations.

Olive Ridley Sea Turtles have also been spotted here

We explored a new route for our last day on the road. From Dapoli market, we took a left turn towards Mandangad . It took us to Mangaon on NH66 through internal village roads.

Returning home after being 10 days on the road was a bit depressing. I remembered one of John Denver’s compositions, ‘’ Hey, it’s good to be back home again”.

This homecoming was quite different from all the others I’ve had in my life. Coming home conjures up numerous emotions, and we were returning home with pleasant memories.

Do we have good rest stops for breakfast lunch, washroom facilities?

What about petrol pumps on the way. Not that we might need it urgently , but doesn't hurt to keep all information handy.

Ideally with 2 or 3 stops how long would it take to reach Ganpatipule?

Thanks for any inputs

You can also take the Pali route to connect the Mumbai-Goa Highway.

You can also take the Bangalore highway via Umbraj - Koyananagar.

It should take you around 8 hours.

Thanks for the info. Points noted. It’s helpful

If you take the Pali route you can see one of the Ashtavinayak temple.

I am posting this after our successful road trip to Ganpatipule. This was our first trip by road on our own. It was just the 2 of us (me and my spouse) with only my spouse driving. So you can imagine our hesitation to take this trip that was more than 4 hours duration. However all went well, thanks to the google maps, reviews posted to my questions from travelers and excellent pointers given. We started out early at around 6 AM in the morning. We took the Atal Setu route because we wanted to expereince the Atal setu drive. It was awesome and an experience in itself. Once we crossed the Atal setu it was pretty much straight driving. We too the NH 348, 348B and onto NH 66. Once we reached NH 66 it was pretty smooth going. Certain stretches of the highway is still being done to a 4 lane. Only one side of the section is open and it slows us down a little. But apart from these section mostly after Nagothane and towards Mangaon, it was good. There are lot of places on the way where you can stop for a break for Tea and lunch. Our first stop was Kamath's at Nagothane for breakfast. It is a decent place with clean washrooms. Food was also decent. Our initial plan was to stop at Mahad and then at Chiplun for lunch and then continue to Ganpatipule directly. We stooped at the Visava Riverside.. But it is not at all recommended. We reached there at around 12:00. The actual hotel/restaurant was not serving anything and we had to go to a rekdi outside for tea. Only good thing was we had a washroom break. Avoid this and go to Chiplun. We didn't however did not stop anywhere post this experience and went all the way to Ganpatipule. Be careful of the Google map direction when we need to get off the NH66 and onto the Kond-Asurde road for Ganpatipue. The road didn't look like a pucca road and we gave the turn a skip and we had to traverse though little lanes through the behind Sangameshwar market road and village to reach the main Kond Asurde road. On the way back didn't miss this right and landed properly on the Asurde road merging to NH66. Reaching Ganpatipule after this was again smooth going. Roads are pretty good and you can drive at a constant speed. Finally after merging onto SH106 turning to Arey- Warey road took us right to the resort.

Our experience in Visava was good though it was quite a few years ago. Bad to see the status of Visava now.

Did you do a night halt at Ganpatipule?

"If you enjoy driving, go to Ganapatipule by Mumbai - Goa NH 17 Highway."

Had been to Ganapatipule very recently. From my residence in Kharghar ,Navi Mumbai , it took 3 hours to cover the 325 kms in my Hyundai , Verna Car. Began the journey at 6am,the route chosen was Mumbai- Goa NH 17 Highway, passing Vadkal Jn, Mahad, Chiplun and taking a right turn at Navli Phata, 70 Kms from Chiplun, further drive 33 Kms to reach the Ganapatipule Beach. Beware of a few deadly speed breakers after Karnala and before Vadkal. Once you have crossed few kms after Vadkal Jn , the well maintained highway enable you to have your dream driving experience especially in the Ghat sections before and after Chiplun. This route is notorious for avoidable accidents mainly due to the absence of divider. Keep the speed in 60-65 Kms max, beware of reckless the speeding trucks, enjoy the lush greenery , have a nice breakfast at 'Vithal Kamath' Restaurant at Mahad, for lunch many options at Chiplun . The last 33KMs from the highway to Ganapatipule through narrow serpentine road is a memorable experience. The best period to experience the beach at Ganapatipule is during weekdays. At weekends it is heavily crowded, you are likely to miss the serene ambience with the sound of waves as background. Once in Ganapatipule, you should not miss the short drive of 20 Kms to Ratnagiri by the coastal road. The route is scenic, enjoy observing stress free life the villagers lead. Love to make another driving trip to the same destination, Ganapatipule.

Ganapatiphule beach is Clean and Beautiful with Blue water, white sand and scenic view, A heaven, near to Mumbai (300 KM). it is Breathtaking ride to reach here and never before experience in weekend with overnight Stay specially with Family. Reaching Here : We visited this place, 10th April 2015 with Family of 4, including two young children. We used Ertiga Car, We used Mumbai – Chiplun (Goa Highway NH17 & NH66) – Chiplun - Guhagar (SH78) - Tavasal Ferry boat port (SH04) – Ferry Boat with Car – Jaigard – Ganpatiphule, 330 KM, – very good road (in between potholes). Started 06:30 AM from Mumbai and reached Ganapati Phule at 2:00 PM. You will feel Breathtaking Ride, never before driving experience, lush green Jungal on both sides of road, passing through western ghat hills on "Sarpila curves", amazing valley view. Reached at 2:00 PM, very easy access, just opposite the “Ganpati Mandir Complex”. Beach is located in a lush green area surrounded by palm tree. Personnel Vehicle (Car / Bike etc) is recommended to reach here, Sate transport Bus's are also play from, Chiplun and Ratnagiri. PLACE TO STAY : Options to stay are many. Best place is to stay at MTDC just on beach, all rooms are sea view rooms. Other options are Ocean View Residency, Hotel Landmark, Sagar Drshan Beach Resort, Atharva Residency however not on beach or sea view rooms. We stayed at MTDC. GETTING AROUND : Very Clean Beach with white sand and safe for swim with Family. It is not very deep to explore upto 200 meters. You can easily swim in the water and the waves are gentle. Since is a very long beach you will always find empty places to have bath with your family. Just sit, inside the sea water, relax and enjoy by the sea bath. Alternatively, rent a beach beds @Rs.50/- per hour, take a nice book, Plug the ear phone with Old Bollywood songs, with a cold drink and spend a couple of hours here and have sun bath. A very calm quite and relaxing beach experience with swimming and sunbathing. Walking in the sea beach in the morning, is a excellent experience which you should never miss. Sunset here is awesome, keep this two in agenda. Waters ports here is limited choice. Hiring a boat to take a ride upto 2kms inside the sea at a rate of 100 per seat. A single water scooter is also available for people to hire and take a joy ride. Camel rides are available for interested visitors. The beach is next to temple therefore you get lots of shops and eateries around. There are no life guards around and be sure that your own people are there to help you in case you have any problem. Toilets and changing rooms are typically dirty but if you are staying in the MTDC Resort, then no issues as they have ample number of showers for changing and cleaning yourself before entering your room. While roaming in city side, this place is to some extent like Goa street. There are 6/7 beaches near Ganapatipule. On the way to Jaigad Fort, you will find 2 more nice beaches. These are less known and without any facilities, but you can enjoy nature at fullest. Must Do - Travel Plan : (1) Bag Pack - Camera with lot of battery power, Puncture kit, Dry Food, lots of water, only sandal (no Sport shoes please). Towel and Extra Cloths for Bath, books, music. Please leave all your bag, footwear at your stay place to enjoy at sea beach. (2) Before start travel, get your vehicle breaks and fuel checked. Be cautious as there are not much petrol / fuel pumps on the way. (3) Roads are narrow and due to dance forest both side, snack curves, makes blind spot hence it is good to be cautious while driving. Avoid travel post sunset as it can be very tricky on these roads. This place is strictly meant for taking a break from city-life and experience the serenity of nature. However your cell phones will work here.

mumbai to ganpatipule road trip

The main beach is near the temple, it was nice clean & with usual activities like camel riding, food stalls etc. The malgund beach was like a private beach...

Pretty beach . Apparently not too safe , rip tides and the like. The nearby Malgund beach is supposedly safer. Expect no shacks or life on the beach.

Very Clean Beach and safe for Family. The beach is next to temple therefore you get lots of shops and eateries around

I have recently visited goa, alibaug beach. However Ganpatipule beach was cleaner than goa and far better than Alibaug. No commercialization of beach and one can enjoy konkan peacefully with there family.

That roadtrip lady

Women’s roadtrip: Ganpatipule to Goa via Konkan route: Part 2

Continued from Mumbai to Goa via coastal route

This is Part 2 of my journey.

Previously in Part 1: Ipsi and I drove from Mumbai to Ganpatipule via the coastal route using ferries in July 2021.

Continued from there:

Ipsi posing on MH-SH4

Possible Routes for Ganpatipule to Goa

We had two route options:

This is the conventional route to reach Goa from Ganpatipule.

It is a four lane highway till Goa border. As of July 2021, there was construction work ongoing after crossing the Goa border.

The road condition on this stretch is good and you can easily maintain a steady speed of 80-100 kmph here.

The total time on this route is about 7hours (to Vasco).

This is the coastal route and runs parallel to NH66 till Vengurla.

As the road is parallel to NH66, there are various points from where you can switch to NH66.

The roads here are narrow sans dividers but there is hardly any traffic due to which the narrow roads are not much of a bother.

This route is not as popular to reach Goa as it takes more time via this route. On this route you can expect ghats, bridges, glimpses of sea, lush green fields (in monsoons).

I usually prefer this route as I can drive slowly and enjoy the drive with my windows rolled down.

Part 1: Stay at Ganpatipule

We reached Ganpatipule at 20:30 after driving for over 15 hours and nearly 450 kms. Since I was the only driver, I was exhausted.

We had not booked any accommodation in Ganpatipule but had shortlisted a few. Being totally exhausted, we decided to head to the one at the top of our list which was ‘BeachFront Villas’.

The property was on the road itself so it was easy to locate. The reception however, was not that easy. As the property was huge and probably due to the time (past 8PM) and the rains, it took us over 15 minutes to locate the reception.  It seemed that the property was really good at one point in time but lacked maintenance.

Maybe the two years of low touristy business during the pandemic added to the wear and tear of the place.

Heavy rains at Beachfront villas

We were too exhausted to look for another place and at INR 2000/night it seemed okay. The good part for us was that the car was parked right next to our villa so it was easier for us to unload stuff from the car.

We bathed, ate dinner, started discussing the route for the next day and before we knew it, we were fast asleep by about 21:30.

The entire night, it rained incessantly with frequent thunders. I woke up at 5AM and the first thing I did was to check the weather forecast. Not good – it showed heavy rain the entire day.

Our initial plan was to walk around Ganpatipule in the morning followed by breakfast and leave at 8AM. The rain spoilt that.

Since I had already woken up, I decided to walk to the beach amidst the heavy rain. I voiced my plan to Ipsi. She rolled her eyes and asked me to shut the door on my way out.

Armed with an umbrella and my go pro, I headed towards the beach.

Walking in the heavy rain was stressing me out. The narrow roads seemed flooded and I was worried about making it to Goa on the same day.

Dancing in the rain

I started having visual images of my car submerged in water and knowing the konkan roads I was worried about the lack of people and in turn the lack of help.

After walking for about an hour, I headed back to the room and woke Ipsi up with my concerns.

“Wow, such heavy rains – Lets get drenched”, she said.

Seize the day. Live in the moment. Carpe Diem. All that jazz

Seeing her enthusiasm, I gave in.

We danced in the rain, jumped in all the small puddles, did some photoshoot (Did I mention that Ipsi is a professional photographer) and before we knew it, it stopped raining!

Photoshoot in the rain

We quickly dressed up, ate breakfast and headed out at around 10AM.

The good part of all the rain was that my car was now sparkling clean.

Part 2: Ganpatipule to Devgad

On Aarey Waarey road

Our initial plan was to start from Ganpatipule at 8AM and drive till Vengurla along the coast on MH-SH4 and then move to NH66

Since we were running late, we decided to drive on MH-SH4 till where we could and then move to NH66.

I have been on the Ganpatipule-Vengurla route once before so knew more or less what to expect.

Since the stretch is quite scenic I had a feeling that we would make multiple stops and would have to turn towards NH66 much sooner.

That is exactly what happened.

The Aarey-Waarey stretch of the road is absolutely stunning.

On this stretch itself we stopped at least 4 times.

Coconut water stop on Aarey Waarey road

Sometimes to click a few pics, sometimes for coconut water, sometimes to just take in the beauty.

With all these unscheduled stops, we soon realised there was no way we could make it to Malvan let alone Vengurla and hence revised our coastal target to a realistic Devgad.

Bridge on MH-SH4

Soon Aarey Waarey road ended, but our unscheduled stops did not. Moreover, since the weather was nice, I had rolled down my windows and was driving at a meagre 40-50 kmph.

The result was that by 2 PM, we had not even reached Devgad.

Since we wanted to enter Goa prior to sunset, we decided to head towards NH66 which would definitely be the faster route.

We left the SH near Dhartale and headed towards NH66 to meet it at Rajapur.

To read about the complete coastal route from Ganpatipule to Vengurla, click here .

Part 3: Rajapur to Goa Border

Posing at Rajapur milestone before the turn to NH66

NH66 was absolutely stunning. From 50 kmph, we were now cruising at a good 100 kmph.

NH66

I believe the stretch from Pen to Chiplun is not the best, but I can certainly vouch for the stretch from Rajapur onwards. It seemed like a newly constructed/widened highway.

It was a good thing that we moved to this highway at Rajapur itself because soon we encountered heavy rains. The kind where you need to keep your wiper at the highest and turn on fog lights. A road with divider is a blessing under such conditions.

Caught in heavy rains on NH66

It was also more scenic than what I had anticipated. And the beautiful weather added the much needed colours to the sky and the fields.

The highway lacked restaurant options though. It seemed a lot of the restaurants had closed down due to the pandemic.

We finally ate at a small restaurant ‘Shri Swami’ which was on the other side of the road. The food was just about okay but it did prevent Ipsi from reaching her ‘hangry’ state.

Bad road conditions, heavy rains, heavy truck traffic – all these I can handle, but not a ‘hangry Ipsi’!

Part 4: Goa border to Dabolim

We reached Goa border at around 17:00. Since we were travelling in July 2021, it was mandatory for anyone travelling from Mumbai to Goa to have a negative RT PCR test or a double vaccine certificate.

We were carrying our negative reports but had no idea where or how would it be checked. On reaching the border, we were asked to park our car on the side and show our certificates to the police at the checkpost counter.

Thankfully, the entire process only took 20 minutes.

Goa border on NH66

The road near the border was in a very bad condition though. And the rains had aggravated the condition with muddy puddles everywhere.

We started our journey into Goa and were met with extremely bad roads. This was the first bad stretch in our journey from Mumbai. Apparently that patch of NH66 is being widened due to which there were a lot of diversions.

The first thing we did on entering Goa was to fill our car with fuel. There is a difference of nearly 10 INR/litre between Maharashtra and Goa.

Nearly the entire stretch from Goa border till Vasco was either bad due to the road conditions or the traffic.

By the time we reached our accommodation in Dabolim, it was nearly 21:00 and needless to say, we were exhausted.

We were staying at Ipsi’s sister’s house which was a beautiful fully furnished 2BHK apartment.

We had no energy to head out to a restaurant. No patience to wait for home delivery. No energy to cook a full fledged meal. So we did what we used to do on our college trips – Maggi to the rescue.

I am the owner/driver of this blog and I love road trips. Women only road trips is a rarity in India and through this blog, I would like to inspire women like me to hit the road. Lack of male co-passenger should not be a deterrent. It took me a lot of years to finally go on my first women only road trip (in 2016) and since then there has been no stopping me. One long distance trip (>1000 km) and a few shorter ones per year is my aim.
