God of War walkthrough, guide and tips for the Norse mythology adventure

Our walkthrough of God of War's epic story.

God of War has arrived on PC, and as with the original PS4 release, we have a full God of War walkthrough to help you along the way.

Start here if you want to be covered on every important angle on the game, be it the step-by-step walkthrough or solutions to a specific problem.

God of War's story takes place across various regions. We've split them up accordingly below, in chronological order as you encounter them through playing the main story of the game.

You can also find the main hub of our God of War guide on this page, with links out to all of our individual pages on specific parts of the game, as well as a collection of God of war tips for getting started, too.

God of War walkthrough for PC and PS4

God of War is really quite strangely structured. There are moments that are purely linear, areas that open up to give you a fair bit of choice on where to go next, and many, many places that you'll need to return to a second time much later in the game when you have new abilities and powers.

god of war all journey missions

As a result, our walkthrough here is exactly that: a walkthrough to the main story, in order, if you simply go from one objective to the next without branching off. We'll note anything you can pick up along the way - a tucked away chest, collectible, or Shrine, say - but we won't take you off down long and winding dead ends. You can explore them on a whim, or alternatively we'll cycle back to cover all the optional areas once the main narrative walkthrough is complete.

In other words, for a story-specific walkthrough that covers all the main things you find along the way from start to finsh, this is right here is where to start:

God of War tips

God of War is a simple game: it's about hitting things in the face. But even hitting things in the face can get tricky at times, so here's a handful of good-to-know tips for your journey.

  • Don't forget to stop attacking - Yes, sometimes it's better to dodge and block. Actually, most of the time you should be doing this: you're going to be frequently attacked by crowds of enemies, or big one's who's attacks you need to stick well clear of. All-out button-bashing attack isn't really an option, so keeping on the move really is key. A well-timed dodge is perfect for setting up some counter attacks, too.
  • Vary your attacks - Just using your axe, or just using your fists, isn't going to work out well. Some enemies are immune to certain attacks, whilst others will go down much faster if you mix it up than if you just whack away at them. Use the full range of what's available to you.
  • Set up your runic abilities well - God of War's abilities aren't hugely distinctive, but on close inspecting you can set them up to cover a variety of situations. Having one that stuns or staggers enemies is good for buying breathing space. Another that does heavy area of effect damage helps clear them out. Switching them before boss fights is smart too - we equipped one that grants a burst of health that really made the difference in some battles.

Cover image for YouTube video

  • Pay attention to the Beastiary book - It's normally the sort of thing you can easily gloss over, but it actually contains some useful tips for tackling certain enemies - like freezing flying ones so that they can't recover when you knock them up in the air for a combo.
  • Smash things into things - It feels great! But it's good to do because it can one-hit-kill enemies that would normally take several. Knocking a frozen enemy into a wall with a kick (heavy attack whilst bare-fisted) will shatter it. Better yet, knock them into another enemy.
  • Smash things off of things - Similarly to the above, kicking enemies off of ledges is a very handy way to get rid of them. Even flying ones are dealt with if you freeze them with a heavy throw of your axe first.
  • Most puzzles are solved with your axe - Throwing your axe at something, throwing it at something whilst doing something else, throwing it at multiple things in one hit, or throwing it at one thing then moving somewhere else to recall it so it hits another thing are the main ways you solve puzzles. It sounds simple and inelegant, and it sort of is, but it can also yield some surprisingly complex solutions!
  • Atreus is actually useful - Your interactions with him may stick mostly to you shouting "Boy!", but Atreus is very handy for distracting, stunning, or otherwise bothering difficult enemies. Make use of his presence!

Cover image for YouTube video

  • Smash everything you see - There are pots (which reward a handful of Hacksilver, your main resource) dotted all over the place, but other smashable items can occasionally hide better treasure, healing orbs, or secrets.
  • Use Spartan Rage often, but wisely - Spartan Rage can be the difference between victory and defeat, but not using it until the end of a battle can mean only using it that one time, rather than mutliple times as it builds up during the fight. If there's more than a couple of enemies, and you know more will follow, it's normally worth popping it. By the end of the fight you'll have built that rage bar up again for another use, anyway. He is a very angry God-man, after all!

god of war all journey missions

God of War ’s “Return to the Summit” Journey begins after you retrieve the Black Rune of Jotunheim during “ Black Rune .” You’ll be free to explore. There’s lots to do around the Lake of Nine , so you don’t have to rush straight to the next goal.

When you’re ready to progress the story, you’re going to head back to the Mountain’s summit, so you’re going to retrace your path through a couple places you’ve visited before. But, with Kratos and Atreus’ new toys, you’ll be able to get to new areas you’ve had to skip over before.

A note on God of War spoilers

God of War is full of surprises, and that makes guides particularly tricky to write. We want to help you with the game. We don’t want to spoil it. So we want you to know that we’ve written every guide with spoilers in mind.

If our guide doesn’t appear to get you every item (a chest, for example), there’s a reason for that. Rather than spoil that reason, our tables of contents and a big image in the guide indicating spoilers ahead will tell you when and why you find yourself in that situation — in the least spoilery way possible.

Table of contents

The foothills, the mountain.

god of war all journey missions

Items in this area: Realm Tear, coffin (Sigil of the Weapon), Legendary chest (Blast of Hephaestus), coffin (hardened Svartalfheim steel), wooden chest, coffin (solid Svartalfheim steel, Sharp Relic of Shadows)

Tyr’s Bridge

Items in this area: Realm Tear

 alt=

Get back to the top side of Tyr’s Bridge — just walk up the stairs if you’re coming directly from the Vault, or boat back to the Temple from wherever you’ve wandered. Run along it to the doors of Vanaheim Tower just like you’ve done a couple times before. If you want a challenge you can try to close the Realm Tear just inside the tower, but remember, there are two level 6 revenants waiting for you on the other side — it might be better saved for later.

Continue along the familiar path to get to the courtyard area with Sindri’s shop where you’ll have to suffer through Atreus instantly becoming a surly teenager. Before you do any shopping, head to the right and onto the trails to trigger some enemies.

There’s a level three Ogre, a level three Wulver and a handful of Nightmares to deal with. Try to drain the Ogre first so you can use it to beat up everything else.

Near Sindri’s shop

Items in this area: coffin (Sigil of the Weapon), Legendary chest (Blast of Hephaestus)

god of war all journey missions

The Sky Mover is busted (again), so you’ll be taking the long way up. Before you return the to the trails, head over to the Sky Mover anyway. Turn right toward the cliffs and look for a scorn pole-protected alcove. Use your axe to freeze the first pole and head inside — you picked up a coffin here earlier. On your left, there’s another coffin protected by a Hel bramble-enclosed scorn pole. Burn off the bramble, then freeze the scorn pole. Open the coffin to pick up the Sigil of the Weapon legendary enchantment .

Head back to the path and follow your compass along the route to the mountain. At the top of the cliff, continue past the first scorn pole alcove until you fight a pair of Hel-walkers. Take them out, then backtrack to the scorn pole. Freeze the one outside of the alcove, then head inside. There’s a Wind trap behind some Hel bramble on the wall ahead of you. Burn the bramble, then grab the Wind.

Run back to the path and watch along the ledge on your left for another trap. Stash the Wind here for a second (you can also stash it here if the Hel-walkers jump you when you’re carrying it), then grab it again. Continue through the tunnel and take the next right. Keep spinning to find a tomb with a Wind trap on the front. Toss the Wind into the lock to open it and reveal a Legendary chest with the Blast of Hephaestus light runic attack inside.

Near the Hidden Chamber Door

Items in this area: coffin (hardened Svartalfheim steel), wooden chest, coffin (solid Svartalfheim steel, Sharp Relic of Shadows)

god of war all journey missions

If you continue along that path on the right, you’ll get back to the Hidden Chamber door you found the first time you visited here. Behind the lock, you’ll find the Valkyrie Gierdriful . You’re welcome to visit the inside and at least unlock the Mystic Gateway — that way you can get back here easier later.

Take the path on the left to continue toward the mountain. At the top of the cliff, you’ll come to the arena where you fought your first Ogre. This time, there’s some Realm Tear-like portals that produce a crowd of level four Brood. Try not to get swarmed, and just keep hacking away until they’re all gone.

Continue along to the doors and go through. On the other side, you’ll get attacked by some Nightmares. As you fight them off, watch along the right side of the path for some Hel bramble growing around a coffin . Burn it away and open the coffin for some hardened Svartalfheim steel .

Continue along the path and up the stairs. Take the next right you can and watch along your right again for more Hel bramble and a wooden chest .

Keep climbing the stairs. As you approach the top, watch for a shatter crystal . Have the boy shoot it to free a coffin — you’ll be passing it in just a second. Follow the path around to the left, then jump the gap to get to the coffin you just freed. This one will get you some solid Svartalfheim steel and a Sharp Relic of Shadows .

Climb the cliff, then follow the path to the left. Push through the doors to get back inside the Mountain.

Items in this area: Lore Marker, artifact (Bottoms Up), coffin (solid Svartalfheim steel, Sharp Sigil of Providence), wooden chest, Legendary chest (Hyperion Slam), treasure map (The Last Place They’d Look), Frost Ancient drops (solid Svartalfheim steel, Ancient’s Rubble, Ancient’s Heart, Frost Sigil of Focus), coffin (Mythic War Belt of Clarity), coffin (hardened Svartalfheim steel, Sharp Relic of Fortune), artifact (Bottoms Up), coffin (Mythic Pauldrons of Clarity)

Just like with the Foothills, being back at (in) the mountain with your new abilities means you can pick up some stuff you missed earlier and access some new pathways.

Into the Mountain

god of war all journey missions

Through the doors, you’ll be back in the deer god’s throne room where you’ll watch a brief, troubling cutscene. When you get to continue, you’ll be able to skip a lot of the steps to getting through the mountain.

Take the left hallway and follow it around to the right. Have the boy blast the sap wall and then handle the three Tatzelwurms on the other side.

Run back to the throne room and grab one of the Light Crystals . Carry it back into the hallway you just opened and socket it next to the Lore Marker in the alcove on your right to give the boy something to read.

Climb up the ledges and then the wall at the end of the hallway. When you land on the ledge to your right, follow the path to the left. You’ll have to fight a couple Draugr here as well as Atreus’ newfound sense of self-importance.

Use the switch on the left of the gate to open it and enter the next area.

(Skipping) The first room

Items in this area: artifact (Bottoms Up), coffin (solid Svartalfheim steel, Sharp Sigil of Providence)

god of war all journey missions

This is where you caught your first lift up the mountain last time you were here. We get to skip that this time, though.

When you first walk in, fight off the Wulvers and Draugr. Then, head back to where you started and take the first left. There’s a sap wall you had to skip earlier under the platform on your left. Have the boy shoot it to reveal a room. Pick up the Bottoms Up artifact 5 on your right and open the coffin on your left for some solid Svartalfheim steel and a Sharp Sigil of Providence .

Head to the far right corner of this room (southeast on your compass). Climb up onto the platform, then burn away the Hel bramble to reveal a new elevator to use.

It’s a long ride. At the top, fight off the Draugr and Nightmares that attack you.

After the elevator

Items in this area: wooden chest, Legendary chest (Hyperion Slam)

god of war all journey missions

Once they’re handled, head along the path ahead of the elevator a bit. Have the boy shoot the shatter crystal to the left of the broken wooden door to reveal another hidden room. This one has a wooden chest and a Winds of Hel trap inside.

Ignore the trap for a minute and burn through the Hel bramble on the left when you walk out. There’s a portable Wind trap in here. Pick it up and carry it back to the elevator area.

Set it down next to the raised area behind the elevator. Face the ledge and look to the right for an area you can boost Atreus up. Do so, and have him kick down the chain.

At the top of the chain, turn to the left. Have the boy read the runes on the doors and then back up. A very angry level 6 ogre, a pair of nightmares and some draugr will come crashing through the door in a second.

Collect all the drops, then head back down the chain. Run back to the first room you opened and grab the Wind. Bring the Wind back to the portable trap at the base of the chain and stash it. Climb back up top and grab the Wind from the portable trap. Turn to the right and run it over to the room the ogre burst out of. Throw the Wind into the trap to reveal a Legendary chest holding the Hyperion Slam heavy runic attack .

Frost Ancient

Items in this area: treasure map (The Last Place They’d Look), Frost Ancient drops (solid Svartalfheim steel, Ancient’s Rubble, Ancient’s Heart, Frost Sigil of Focus)

god of war all journey missions

Now you can follow the path along the edge of the cliff. Just past the shatter crystals, there’ll be a fire-throwing draugr waiting for you. Pick up anything he drops and the loose hacksilver out on his perch.

Head into the hallway on the right. Just inside, have the surly boy pick up the The Last Place They’d Look treasure map . (Check out our The Last Place They'd Look treasure map guide for the details.) Duck under the low rocks, then climb the ledge. You’ll have to face a Frost Ancient in the next room. Handle it like the rest of the Ancients you’ve fought. Don’t worry about using the Blades of Chaos just for the fire damage, though — just focus on hitting the Ancient’s weak spot with your axe from a distance.

When it’s defeated, grab all its loot — some hacksilver, solid Svartalfheim steel, Ancient’s Rubble , an Ancient’s Heart and a Frost Sigil of Focus enchantment .

Frost Ancient’s room

Items in this area: coffin (Mythic War Belt of Clarity), coffin (hardened Svartalfheim steel, Sharp Relic of Fortune)

god of war all journey missions

Look in the middle of the room under the wooden structure for some crystalized sap. Grab a piece, then turn left — there’s a sap wall behind you. Blow it up, then grab the cart the sap wall was blocking. Pull the cart as far back as it will go. Check the room where the cart was for a few thousand hacksilver, then climb on top of the cart and up to the next ledge. Open the coffin up there for the Mythic War Belt of Clarity .

Drop back down to the ground, grab another chunk of sap and follow the wall on your right. Use the sap to free the coffin you find on your right a little way down. Open it for some hardened Svartalfheim steel and a Sharp Relic of Fortune .

Sindri’s Shop

Items in this area: artifact (Bottoms Up), coffin (Mythic Pauldrons of Clarity)

god of war all journey missions

Continue into the hallway at the back of the room and follow it around to the right. Climb up onto the ledge, then have the boy read the lore on the ground while you pick up Bottoms Up artifact 6 — completing the set.

Cross the narrow ledge on your right. On the other side, burn away the Hel bramble on your right to free a coffin . Open it for the Mythic Pauldrons of Clarity .

Continue along the path until you come to Sindri’s shop. Take care of any shopping or upgrading while you’re here.

When you’re done, head through the doors on your left.

Items in this area: Realm Tear, Legendary chest (Niflheim cipher)

god of war all journey missions

As soon as you walk out, there’s a Realm Tear to deal with. One level six and one level seven Hel-walker will come out along with a few Nightmares. Close it and collect your Dust of Realms . Open the Legendary chest nearby for a piece of the Niflheim cipher .

Turn right and head up the short path to find a color-changing stone.

Head back down to the path on the left. Burn away the Hel bramble and climb the cliffs.

At the top, you’ll be back on the ridge right before the top of the mountain. Walk right up to the structure, then burn away some more brambles. Climb up to the top to (finally) return to the Jotunheim arch.

Have the boy carve the rune and use your magic chisel to open the gateway. Watch the cutscene as everything goes exactly as planned. We’ll meet you on the other side.

God of War: The Journey - Path to the Mountain

A walkthrough to help Kratos and Atreus during their Path to the Mountain in God of War.

Bill Lavoy

Path to the Mountain is the second story mission in God of War, introducing several new mechanics to the game, as well as new NPCs, and loads of collectibles. This walkthrough will be free of spoilers, helping Kratos to navigate the world and solve puzzles along the way.

Path to the Mountain Walkthrough

There will be a new path that Kratos and Atreus can pass through at the beginning of this chapter. Drop down and shimmy along the ledge. Jump the gap and then climb the wall, working past the waterfall. Climb up and into the cave. Hop the barricade to find Kratos and Atreus in a room that is not easy to navigate through.

god of war all journey missions

Not unlike Ellie in The Last of Us, Atreus can be boosted up onto platforms. Before joining him, loot the bottom floor, then turn the wheel in the corner to lower the bridge. Throw the Leviathan axe at the mechanism ahead to hold the bridge in place. Instruct Atreus to lower the chain, then leave the wheel and climb up to him. Explore this level briefly, jumping across a couple platforms to smash open a chest and get some Hacksilver. When ready, climb up with wall with Atreus hitching a ride on Kratos’ back. Stop halfway up the wall to lower the previously inaccessible chain, then climb all the way to the top.

The path gets linear for a bit, but following a cinematic, climb up the platform and move forward until Kratos and Atreus can squeeze between some rocks. This will lead to an open area with Draugrs. It’s another great place to practice combat in the early going, and the game takes a moment to explain the various threat indicators and how to read them.

Continue Towards the Mountain

Following the fight, climb the wall to leave this area, then push forward and keep an eye out on the right side of the path. There will be a chest Kratos can open, and inside is the Hel’s Touch Light Runic Attack Gem that can be slotted into Kratos’ Leviathan axe. The game will run through a tutorial on how this works, so there’s no need for me to explain further here.

Back on the main path, the way will be blocked, but Kratos can move the object and allow himself and Atreus to pass through. Soon, though, another group of Draugrs will be in the way, which is the perfect time to try out the Light Runic Attack (L1 + R1). Clear out the enemies and pick up anything valuable that they drop.

Escape the Ruins

After having Atreus translate more text, be ready for another group of enemies to attack. They are a bit tougher than previous encounters, but still nothing special. Keep the Light Runic Attack in mind, as well as Spartan Rage. When things quiet down, climb the wall where the enemies emerged from to progress.

god of war all journey missions

There will be something creepy singing at the top of the wall. Press forward, making sure to loot whatever small sums of Hacksilver can be found. Once the Revenant spawns, take it out with the help of Atreus. Expect a Revenant to dodge most Leviathan axe throws, but Atreus’ arrows can connect consistently. This will pin the Revenant in place so Kratos can close the distance and land some attacks. Consider this the tutorial on how to kill a Revenant.

In the next room, jump from the ledge and grab onto the wall. Climb up and turn right to find a casket that was visible from the room where the Revenant appeared. Inside that casket will be Soft Svartalfheim Steel, a crafting component for later.

Hop the gap and notice the path splits to the left and right. To the left are a bunch of enemies and a  Jotnar shrine that will provide some lore. There are also a bunch of enemies there. To the right is a Nornir chest . When looking at the chest, the three seals are located behind it and to the right, behind Kratos on his right, and across the bridge and in another room. The bridge can be lowered by throwing the Leviathan axe at the mechanisms holding it up. Inside the chest is a Idunn Apple.

With the bridge behind the magic rune chest lowered, cross it and immediately hop up on a ledge to the right. Smash that chest open for some Hacksilver, then drop down and continue. The next room will be occupied by a Revenant and some Draugrs. Use the Light Runic Attack and Spartan Rage to clear it out, utilizing Atreus to distract the Revenant. This one tripped me up a few times, but Spartan Rage took care of things a in a big way.

god of war all journey missions

The nearby bridge that must be lowered is tricky. Below the bridge is an iron grate, but there’s a small hole in it. Once the mechanism is lined up with the hole, throw the Leviathan axe to break the mechanism and lower the bridge completely.

Cross the bridge and turn right, grabbing the Soft Svartalfheim Steel from the casket at the end of the path. Continue forward and lift the gate to the next area, kicking off a short cinematic.

Fight off the Reavers

When the cinematic ends, dispatch all the Reaver enemies, then do it again for the second wave. The second wave is more annoying, but not particularly tough. It’s advisable to use bare-handed combat for the second wave since the Leviathan axe is largely useless against these frost-covered foes. Punch them until there’s nothing left to hit.

In the room where the Reavers appeared will be a chain that is inaccessible. To the right of that chain is a piece of wooden wall. Hoist Atreus up the wall, then keep talking to him as he moves over and drops the chain down for Kratos. Climb up and move into the next area, then shimmy across to the other side along the left wall.

A casket on the right will have another piece of Soft Svartalfheim Steel. It’s about now that a voice will be heard in the distance. Move towards the voice to meet Brok, one of two vendors in the God of War that will provide upgrades to armor and weapons for Kratos and Atreus.

Throw Your Axe at the Trees

Take aim at the birch trees on the right side of the bridge and throw the Leviathan axe towards them. This will scare whatever was in the woods, allowing Brok to continue along the bridge. Soon Kratos will be able to use Brok’s shop to buy gear and upgrade what he already has. In fact, Brok will give Kratos a Frozen Flame, a rare resource that is used to level up the Leviathan axe specifically. Leveling up the Leviathan axe will unlock new skills that can be purchased, but that is covered more in-depth in our guides on how to upgrade the Leviathan axe, and our all skills guide in God of War.

Proceed Through the Gate to the Mountain

The path forward is through the gate, but there’s more to do in the ruins before moving on. To the left of the gate is a bridge that can be knocked down by throwing Kratos’ Leviathan axe at the mechanism. Do so and drop down. The chain that was visible from the magic rune chest is now accessible, but so is a chest with Hacksilver beside it.

Climb down the chain and open the nearby casket. Collect the Soft Svartalfheim Steel inside, then head back to Brok’s shop and go through the gate.

god of war all journey missions

Crouch under the rock just inside the gate. A door with a wooden panel at the top right will block the way. Throw the Leviathan axe at the panel once to open it. The next door will require that the Leviathan axe is thrown at it twice to fully open it. Pass through and notice a hole in the left wall with a casket visible. Throw the Leviathan axe at the same spot on the second door a third time, pushing it even further open and gaining access behind the wall. Inside will be another piece of Soft Svartalfheim Steel.

Back in the main room will be a wooden panel with a mechanism below it. Throw the Leviathan axe at the panel, causing the ceiling across the way to raise. Quickly recall the axe and throw it at the mechanism to lock the ceiling into place. Jump the gap to reach the other side, causing several enemies to spawn. Hop back to the side Atreus is standing on and recall the axe, crushing the enemies. It will be necessary to raise the ceiling again to return to that side.

Once all the enemies are cleared out on both sides, take note of the chest with Hacksilver in the corner of the room. There is also another door with a wooden panel on the top right, and another wooden panel with a mechanism to the right of that. Recall the Leviathan axe and immediately throw it at the wooden panel to the right of the door, then recall it again and throw it at the door to open it. Repeat this until the door is open. Speed is key or the ceiling full of spikes will crush Kratos.

Once clear of the room with the spiked ceiling, recall the Leviathan axe and let the ceiling drop. Kratos can now climb on top of that ceiling, and there is a Nornir chest up there. When facing this chest Kratos can look to his left and see a seal. Throw the Leviathan axe at the wooden panel to get a clear shot, then recall the axe and destroy the seal. The second seal is behind Kratos and on his right when looking at the chest, and the third is in the other room through the broken wall (there is also a chest with Hacksilver back there). Smash all three, then open the Nornir chest to get the first Horn of Blood Mead in the game.

Continue to the Mountain

Press forward to trigger a short cinematic, then keep moving. There will be large gate in Kratos’ way. When looking at the gate, head left and climb up, then turn the crank to activate the riddle.

The door will have three moving panels. Each one is broken. The goal is to throw the Leviathan axe through a broken section of panel, locking it in place. The other two panels will continue to rotate. When the text on the door lines up, recall the axe and it will solve two thirds of the riddle. From here it’s just a matter of lining the final panel up with the two that are already set. Once the riddle is solved, the door will open, allowing Kratos and Atreus to pass through.

Hunt with Atreus

Go through the door and into the cave, choosing the right path over the left. A short distance forward a cinematic will play. When it’s over move only a few feet and then get ready to fight.

Defeat Brenna Daudi

The Brenna Daudi boss fight is not unlike the fight in the first chapter, The Marked Trees . Expect to see four attacks in the fight, including a stomp, a fire throw, a battering ram attack, and a smash attack. None are fast and none hard to avoid, so this becomes a fight about patience. In fact, Brenna Daudi is easy to cheese using the Leviathan axe throw and maintaining distance, but what fun is that? Evade and strike, and don’t forget to use Spartan Rage to deal a huge chunk of damage in a short amount of time.

god of war all journey missions

When the fight is over, search the ground where Brenna Daudi fell, grabbing the Heavy Runic Attack, about 2,900 Hacksilver, and two pieces of Soft Svartalfheim Steel.

In the area where the fight with Brenna Daudi took place, there is a Nornir chest to be dealt with. When looking at the chest, one rune is above and behind the chest, one is to the left of the waterfall, and one is way behind Kratos on the other side of the area. Each of the three seals must be broken with the Leviathan axe, but each will also reset after a short amount of time. Quickly smash all three of the seals before any can reset, opening the Nornir chest and revealing an Idunn Apple, the third Kratos has found for those following our walkthrough. This will grant him an increase to his maximum health.

god of war all journey missions

In the same area is a chain that can be lowered, but first Kratos must smash the wooden barrier near it. He can then hoist Atreus up to drop the chain. Climb up to get a nice piece of lore, then hop back down and continue.

The way forward is through a cave. As Kratos and Atreus exit, they will hop down and see the animal they are hunting. Assist Atreus with aiming the bow, allowing him to fire when the reticle is red. Follow the bore when it runs off, ending up in a burned-out village. As Kratos hops down to the ground, look behind him to find a chest with Hacksilver under the platform. Loot the buildings in the village and move onward with Atreus.

Find Atreus

Lift the stone pillar from the path. When Atreus runs off, follow as much as possible. There is no timer even though it feels rushed. Call to Atreus as instructed, then heading in the direction of the voice when it calls back. Eventually Kratos will squeeze through a narrow passage and trigger a cinematic. When it ends, carry the bore as instructed before watching another cut scene.

Collect The White-Petaled Flower

god of war all journey missions

When back in control of Kratos, leave the building and turn left. The white-petaled flower is around the side of the house, near a tiny waterfall. Grab some. Two minor objectives that need no explanation will then play out; return to Atreus and Return to the Witch. Completing both will bring about another cut scene before Kratos and Atreus get back on the path.

Get to the Boat

There’s quite a bit to see and do in the tunnel underneath the Witch’s house, but most if it can’t be dealt with right now. I spent an hour trying to get into the Nornir chest, only to hear Atreus tell me that he didn’t think we had the tool for that. Pretty obvious hint looking back, but I missed it for quite some time.

Not far from the Nornir chest on the bottom level, however, is a casket. First have Kratos move the large cart out of the way, then look behind the wall it was covering. The casket will contain one Soft Svartalfheim Steel. Feel free to push the large cart into the water, but there’s not much more to be done after that.

Head back to the top level of the cave and hop two gaps. There is a chest in plain site that holds a Talisman of Concentrated Vitality. The game will run through a short tutorial that explains how this works, so no sense in doing it here as well. Head to the boat when the tutorial is over.

god of war all journey missions

Boat Towards Daylight

There’s not much to do here besides row. Kratos can’t get out of the boat, and I didn’t spot anything of note along the way. Just continue to move forward along the path until emerging at the Lake of Nine. There won’t be much to do here… yet.

Investigate the Glowing Statue

Now that there’s a compass at the top of the HUD (assuming it’s enabled), center the objective and head for it. This will trigger a cinematic, and when it changes there will be a lot more to do at the Lake of Nine. In fact, this will act as hub for the remainder of God of War, and there are hours to be spent exploring along its edges. However, this is a campaign walkthrough, so we’ll be heading right for the next story objective.

Dock at the Bridge

The dock is very close to Kratos and Atreus when the cinematic ends. Paddle over and get out. Another rather insignificant objective will want Kratos to Investigate the Temple and Bridge. Just head up the steps and Talk to Brok at his new shop. There will be a chance to buy and upgrade gear and learn about Mystic Gateway Points.

Make Your Way to the Tower

Exit Brok’s Shop and head out onto the platform. Just move straight forward, taking out the enemies that spawn in as Kratos and Atreus progress. There is room for exploration off the left and right sides, but the story objective is through the tower. Open the large doors and head inside.

Pass Through the Tower and Caves

Inside the doors are several enemies. They are nothing to worry about at this point in the game, so take them out by any means preferred. When the room is clear, explore the room on the left to find a Jotnar shrine. The path forward is blocked by debris, so this leaves only the path to the right. It, however, is blocked by a poison gas. Throw Kratos’ Leviathan axe at the post near the poison. This will clear the way for him and Atreus to pass. Recall the axe once reaching safety, then repeat this process to move through the pool of poison.

When Kratos and Atreus find ledge they can drop off, throw the Leviathan axe at the nearby post to clear the poison from the ground. Climb up the wooden wall next to it, then jump to safety. Up the steps and through the next door is another cinematic and the introduction of Sindri, Brok’s brother. Explore his shop and read through the tutorial on Resurrection Stones.

With his back to Sindri’s Shop, have Kratos head up the hill and to the right. There will be a Nornir chest to open, and this one is a bit tricky. Take note of the seals on the chest. Not only what each seal looks like, but also the orientation. There are three posts nearby, each with panels on it. Throw the Leviathan axe at the panels to match the seal, and the orientation of the seal, to what’s on the chest. When one is right, that seal will go dark on the front of the chest. When all three are correct, the chest can be opened, and a Horn of Blood Mead can be retrieved.

When Kratos has his back to Sindri’s Shop there is also a path on the left side of the hill. This leads to a few chests. The first is near the lift, and the post that Kratos must throw his axe at to clear the poison is only visible from Sindri’s location. Poison blocks access to the chest further up the left path, and there isn’t an obvious workaround at this point in the story. I ignored this for now and headed up the middle path towards my main objective, looted a chest for the Hacksilver, then climbed up the wall.

god of war all journey missions

At the top of the cliff will be some poison. Throw the Leviathan axe into the nearby post and pass through. There will then be more poison to the left and right. Head left, clearing the poison with Kratos’ axe as always. Loot the casket in this area to nab Arcane Bracers, common wrist armor. Backtrack and take the only remaining path (clearing the poison). Take out the Revenant with Atreus, then note there are paths to the left and right again.

The path on the right leads up to a Hidden Chamber , which cannot be opened at this point, and the path on the left (through the tunnel) leads towards Kratos’ objective. Pass through and climb the wall, taking out the enemies at the top. There will be some jars at the top that can be destroyed to help this along, and one even clears a path to a chest that contains Arcane Shoulder Wraps. Head for the door when ready.

Kill the Ogre

Once it feels like everything is good, an ogre will appear and cause some trouble. It will be flanked by all the enemies you just dispatched, but this fight isn’t too bad with proper technique.

god of war all journey missions

First, know that the ogre attacks with swinging punches, by throwing smaller enemies at Kratos, and by charging and performing a ground smash. All of them hurt, but all can be avoided with timely blocks and evasions. When the ogre misses, strike with Light Attacks and Strong Attacks, and don’t be afraid to unleash Spartan Rage if its charged up and ready to go. When the ogre is adequately hurt, mount it as instructed and unleash attacks with R1 and R2 until its dead. Do not forget to pick up the Symbol of Truth (a rare enchantment), over 3,000 Hacksilver, five Soft Svartalfheim Steel, and a Frozen Flame that can be used to upgrade the Leviathan axe.

Head through the doors when ready, and feel free to poke around, although there isn’t much to see. As Kratos moves forward with Atreus, this chapter will close, then it’s on to A Realm Beyond , the next story mission. God of War – The Marked Trees Walkthrough

April 20, 2018 by Jack McBastard Leave a Comment

The Marked Trees is the first main quest, or Journey, in God of War (2018, PS4). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Marked Trees Main Quest.

Follow the river downstream

Right at the beginning of the game, you will receive this objective automatically as soon as you enter your canoe. Row downstream to the dock, and press circle when prompted. Kratos will pick up the log, and you will walk down the path following Atreus. Once Kratos arrives at his cabin, a lengthy cinematic will play leading directly into your next objective.

Hunt with Atreus

Following Atreus as he hunts the deer will take you to each objective in turn, but feel free to roam around and explore the area before moving on. There are no time limits since Atreus will wait for you, and there are lots of hidden chests and Hacksilver in the area. Atreus will eventually lead you to a bridge that is blocked by a wooden barricade. Throw your axe to destroy the barricade and jump across the hole to proceed. Follow Atreus, and after a couple of cinematics, you will have to fight some Draugr to proceed. Once they have been defeated, follow Atreus as he continues to track the deer, eventually leading into a temple with more Draugr to fight. After the fight, there will be a wooden structure in the middle of the room connected to a chain that you will use to open the door. After you pull down the chain, hold L2, target the gear above the door and throw your axe to freeze the mechanism in place, allowing you to walk through. Once through the inner gate, use triangle to recall your axe which will close the inner gate behind you, and open the outer gate.

Follow Atreus until he spots the deer again, and follow the button prompts to shoot it. Watch the cinematic as Atreus gets his first kill, but be ready. Your awkward father/son moment is interrupted by a troll!

Defeat Dauði Kaupmaðr

Dauði Kaupmaðr may look big, but to defeat him is relatively simple as long as you are cautious. All trolls have more or less the same attack pattern throughout the game, and typically fighting one up close is risky. Instead stay well back, having Atreus spam arrows whenever they are available. Throw and recall your axe constantly, aiming for his head if possible to stun him momentarily. It won’t cause an opening but it will interrupt an attack, and get him to step back for a fraction of a second. The troll will use two attacks. The first is swinging the massive stone column he wields as a weapon. He will either swing it in a horizontal arc, sweeping the area near his feet, or bring it down vertically to hit at a medium distance. Both attacks are fast, and difficult to dodge, particularly if you’re right at his feet and can’t see what direction the column is swinging off the top of the screen. The other attack is a ground stomp which causes a line of earth damage directly towards you, which can hit you from across the field. Roll out of the way to the left or right when he stomps, and you can avoid it easily. Keep throwing and recalling your axe until Dauði drops to one knee, allowing you to hit R3 and perform a Stun Grab to finish him off. Watch a short cinematic with Atreus, and then move on to your next objective.

Return to the house

Follow Atreus, boosting him up walls and killing Draugr. When your path is blocked by a bundle of logs hanging from a pulley, throw your axe to smash the circular wooden target in the middle, causing the logs to drop. You will soon return to your cabin, and then watch a lengthy cinematic. This is where things really go off the rails.

Defeat the Stranger

After the cinematic, Kratos will find himself in a fight with an unusual man who also appears to have supernatural strength and abilities. At first the fight is simple. Just keep beating on the Stranger, and if you don’t let up you can keep him staggered for extended periods of time. Eventually, he will zip away with the tattooed runes on his skin glowing blue, and he will zig zag towards you in a charge. Use your shield to block his attack, then continue to beat him senseless. Ideally, you’ll want to time your block for the instant of the attack to trigger a parry animation, which will briefly leave the Stranger open for a counter attack. When his life drops low enough, it will trigger a cinematic that will transition you into the second stage of the fight.

Eventually you will be prompted to press L3 and R3 together to activate your Spartan Rage. Make the most of this ability while its active to continue beating on the Stranger. This time, after a couple of hits, the Stranger will zip backwards to safety either to counterattack or use a ranged frost ability which you will have to evade. While your Spartan Rage is still active, your best strategy is to use L3 to sprint after him and keep the pressure on. Use both your light attacks, and your heavy attack which will trigger a ground smash which will send the Stranger flying. Once your Spartan Rage expires, you’ll have to be more cautious as your sprint will not be fast enough to close the distance to him before he attacks you. Be prepared to evade to the side if he uses his frost attack, then continue to attack him. Defeating the Stranger will again trigger a cinematic, after which you will regain control for a moment. Walking towards your home will trigger a follow up cinematic and put you in part three of the fight.

The Stranger adds a frosty leap to his bag of tricks this round. He will boost straight up off-screen on a column of frost, and come down on a position near you. The location he will land is marked with a similar cloud of frost, so if you see it near you roll out of the way, otherwise just keep running and you shouldn’t have any trouble. He takes a moment to recover after landing, giving you a perfect opportunity to either rush in and hit him with your axe or throw it at him from a distance. Otherwise, this part of the fight is the same except that the Stranger moves faster and hits harder. The fight will end with a cinematic, and again a slow shamble as you…

This finishes The Marked Trees main journey quest in God of War. Now the next quest Path to the Mountain starts.

Franklin Graham’s Journey From Lost to Spreading Hope

Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, in his office in Boone, N.C., on April 18, 2024. (Madalina Vasiliu/The Epoch Times)

The force behind Samaritan’s Purse’s growth into a billion-dollar nonprofit that brings comfort to a hurting world says "it’s all because of God."

By Beth Brelje | Originally Published in The Epoch Times May 02, 2024. Updated: May 06, 2024. Used with permission.

BOONE, N.C.—A bird is thumping into the window of Rev. Franklin Graham’s office at Samaritan’s Purse international headquarters in Boone, North Carolina.

He says it happens every spring, and he doesn’t know why, but this bird flies into the window, falls, and then tries again. Mr. Graham has gone outside to shoo it away—it doesn’t seem hurt—but it persistently bonks the window, sometimes in the middle of weighty, life-altering conversations.

It’s not the first time the views inside his windows have been breached.

Busloads of people used to stop in front of his boyhood home and sometimes they got off the bus, crept through the yard, and peered into the windows, hoping to get a glimpse of his world-famous father, the Rev. Billy Graham.

Seeking privacy, the family moved near his grandparents to a home on a wooded mountain acreage in Montreat, North Carolina. Mr. Franklin Graham and his four siblings attended a rural public school.

It dawned on the young Graham that his father was different from other dads when a family friend landed his helicopter in their yard and took Mr. Billy Graham to preach somewhere. It only happened a few times, but it left an impression.

His parents took him to church. His grandparents had been missionaries in China. Many of their friends were retired missionaries, so the Graham home was often filled with people of faith.

But young Franklin Graham rebelled against it.

“As I got into my teenage years, it wasn’t that I did not believe in God. I just didn’t want God running my life,” Mr. Graham told The Epoch Times. “I wanted to have fun. I wanted to do those things that pleased me and satisfied myself. I was probably very self-centered.”

He picked up bad habits, like smoking cigarettes, as he traveled the world.

One night, at age 22, and alone in a Jerusalem hotel room, everything changed.

“I found myself at a point in life where I was just miserable. And I got on my knees one night and I said, ‘God I believe you’re real, and I believe your son Jesus Christ took my sins to the cross and died for me. I’ve sinned against you. I’m sorry. If you can take the pieces of my life and put them together, you can have it,’” Mr. Graham recounted.

“That night, when I prayed that prayer, I meant it. I didn’t know everything all that entailed, but I knew I surrendered that night.”

The next morning, he woke up and decided he would be a better witness for God if he didn’t smoke. But a few days later on an airplane, a flight attendant was selling cigarettes. He bought a pack.

“I lit one up and for the first time, it didn’t taste good. I put it down and never touched one since. So, I gave my life to Christ and decided to quit smoking for Him, then He took away the desire, and the taste. I mean, I loved cigarettes…. nicotine is a real addiction, and God delivered me from it.”

Soon, he married his wife, Jane Austin. Today, they have four married children—Will, Roy, Edward and Cissie—and 13 grandchildren.

Finding a Mission

While Mr. Graham was in college, Bob Pierce, founder of Samaritan’s Purse, invited him on a mission trip. It sparked a passion for serving people.

Samaritan’s Purse was a small nonprofit that helped missionaries. After Mr. Pierce received a terminal prognosis for his leukemia, he asked Mr. Billy Graham if his son Franklin, who was still in college, would take it over.

“My father said, ‘If you want Franklin, you have to talk to him,’” Mr. Graham said.

“He died, but never talked to the board of directors about it. So, I go to his funeral and the board is looking at me like ‘what are you doing here?’”

A year later, the board offered him the job.

In 1979, at 26 years old, Mr. Graham was elected president of Samaritan’s Purse.

god of war all journey missions

Today Samaritan’s Purse earns $1.1 billion a year, largely from public donations; employs 4,464 people, and works in more than 100 countries, providing aid to victims of war, disease, disaster, poverty, and famine.

Everything Samaritan’s Purse does is connected to evangelism.

Tens of thousands of churches in the United States and 100 other countries participate in Samaritan’s Purse’s Operation Christmas Child, in which churchgoers pack a shoebox with gifts. Boxes are distributed to needy children around the world, and they are invited to join a faith-based program called The Greatest Journey. More than 11.3 million boxes were collected globally in 2023.

“It’s all because of God. It started off with me at the beginning, not knowing what in the world I got myself into. And it goes back before that, to when I gave my life to Christ,” Mr. Graham said. “When we pray those prayers and we mean it, God will take our life and use us in a way that we never dreamed possible.”

At 71, Mr. Graham is neither retired nor spends all his days behind a desk. His sleeves are rolled up; he still travels to inhospitable places where people are hurting; and he has a lot to say about the condition of the world today, that has created so much need.

Samaritan’s Purse has large, long-term responses in Ukraine and now Israel.

In Ukrainian cities where homes are heated by centralized steam heat plants, underground piping for heat and water has been demolished. People are living in their basements. Samaritan’s Purse has been providing heat and water by giving people wood burning stoves and drilling wells.

Samaritan’s Purse replaced 14 destroyed ambulances in Israel and will provide eight additional armored ambulances.

“Hamas targeted ambulances because they wanted to kill the drivers and the people in the ambulances so it would discourage other ambulances from coming,” Mr. Graham said.

Samaritan’s Purse has offered to set up a fully-equipped emergency field hospital inside Gaza and it has purchased 3,000 family-size tents for displaced Gaza civilians. These are being transported in more than two dozen 40-foot containers that are expected to begin arriving in the first half of May.

Mr. Graham said the organization only goes where it’s welcome by the government.

The Tumultuous World

While recently in Poland, Mr. Graham visited Auschwitz, where 1.1 million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis.

“We come today, 80 years down the road, and we see the rise of anti-Semitism again … Iran has declared they’re going to wipe Israel off the map,” Mr. Graham said.

“Iran doesn’t care about the Palestinians. They’re just using the Palestinians to accomplish their goal. The Palestinians suffer; Hamas doesn’t care. They are there to be able to destroy Israel and … the more Palestinian suffering, the more world attention will be against Israel. We’re seeing this happening right now.”

The Arabs claim to have compassion for the Palestinians, he said, but Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Libya haven’t taken in fleeing Palestinians.

Palestinians are suffering, he said. The border was closed; they cannot leave. They don’t have jobs or income anymore, and they have no effective government to help them.

Samaritan’s Purse has helped displaced Jewish people, first with food boxes, then gift cards to buy what they need, like diapers and infant formula. Some 500,000 Jewish people have been displaced.

Samaritan’s Purse has a mobile hospital ready for the region and is working with Israel to find the safest time to set up.

Mr. Graham looks to the Bible to make sense of the world, and he sees parallels in scripture and current events. The Bible speaks of a one world government.

god of war all journey missions

“The globalists want a one world economy. They want a one world government system, and that’s being talked about. Is it being talked about in the media? No. But that’s the agenda, and the Bible predicts that, so it’s all part of God’s plan,” Mr. Graham said.

Other signs are electronic currencies. Mr. Graham believes eventually the world will agree to one electronic currency, ending cash.

“The Bible talks about a mark on the forehead or on the right hand. I believe it’s a computer chip, so you don’t have to carry money… That technology is here today.”

The Bible predicts these things will usher in a time of turmoil before the return of Jesus Christ.

“I’m not afraid, but I’m not unaware of where the world is heading.”

“Until that happens, there will be a lot of hurting people in this world and I’m going to do all I can to try to help as many as I can, and do it in Jesus’ name,” Mr. Graham said.

“I want the world to know that God loves them. I’m going to take as many days as I have left, to try to tell as many people as I can.”

Battling Storms

After a 2023 tornado ripped up hundreds of Indiana homes, Jason Kimak, Samaritan’s Purse senior director of North American Ministries, was sent to a man’s home.

“I drove up and the home was really messed up. I mean it was crumbled. I get out of my car…and the first thing he says to me is, ‘For years, I’ve packed shoe boxes with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. I never thought in a million years that you would be coming to help me with my home.’

“He started sobbing. It was emotional. His home was mostly destroyed.” Mr. Kimak told The Epoch Times.

They walked around the wrecked home. The man showed how he scrambled into his basement to survive the tornado. Samaritan’s Purse volunteers helped sort through the rubble, recover a few things, and put them in a container until he had a new place.

Mr. Kimak spoke from inside a ready-to-deploy disaster relief unit staged in the Samaritan’s Purse warehouse in North Wilkesboro, and outfitted with a command center office, a communication hub where most surfaces are made of white board so disaster responders can scrawl notes on the walls. The trailer has a workbench to repair equipment, and cabinets filled with gear to respond to destroyed homes and unsettled lives. Near the work gloves and chainsaws is a cabinet filled with orange volunteer t-shirts and stacks of Bibles.

Churches that provide or receive shoeboxes are willing to partner with Samaritan’s Purse in disaster situations, making for quick local connections, domestically and internationally.

Since 1998, Samaritan’s Purse has responded to 342 domestic disasters in 39 states, bringing aid to some 74,000 families.

During the Fort Myers, Florida, hurricane response, Mr. Kimak saw a man looking at his damaged garage, where filthy, five-foot deep flood water soaked the walls and contents of homes. He didn’t know where to start. Mr. Kimak offered to put in a work order.

“He said, ‘How much is that going to cost?’ I said, ‘There is no cost. See all these people in the orange t-shirts? They come from around the country to serve and help you.’

“He just was blown away.”

Samaritan’s Purse salvaged belongings, moved furniture outside to dry in the sun, removed flooring, wet drywall and insulation, and applied a mold preventative. They did the same next door at the man’s mother’s house.

In a disaster, people are in shock. Chaplains from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association listen to their stories, pray with them, and help them through the first steps of recovery.

“A lot of times, just because that storm came in physically, there may be other storms in their life they’ve been going through,” Mr. Kimak said. They are given a Bible and connected with a local church that will continue to work with them.

Samaritan’s Purse looks to offer lasting hope. After responding in 2021 to tornado destruction in Mayfield, Kentucky, Samaritan’s Purse purchased land and built 60 new houses to give to people. Each comes fully furnished and has a storm room able to withstand an EF-5 tornado.

Families receiving a home take a course facilitated by Mayfield churches for first-time homeowners to grow financial management skills.

Rapid Growth, Rapid Response

Samaritan’s Purse first deployed one of its emergency field hospitals in 2016 in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Ecuador. Operating rooms and emergency rooms were up and running less than 11 hours after the plane landed.

“Time matters. Whenever we hit the field, the faster we can get in there, the more lives we’ll save,” Damon Tripp, Samaritan’s Purse’s medical operations manager told The Epoch Times, while walking through the 164,000-square-foot North Wilkesboro warehouse built in 2017.

“We will work 16 to 18 hours a day, through the night, just to get the hospital running because we want to save lives, and it gives us the ability to let them know that God loves them.”

The goal is to be operating in less than 72 hours, Mr. Tripp said. “That is the golden window of opportunity to save the most lives and treat the most people.”

The emergency field hospital is inflatable. Rooms can be joined together. There is a waiting room with chairs, and four rolls of colored triage tape hang from the ceiling for workers to color-code patients by severity of injury. The next room has portable treatment beds with heart monitors. Another room is a surgical suite.

Specialty equipment is sent to disaster zones as needed.

“If we’re going to an earthquake and there are a lot of crush injuries, we have a ‘crush module’ we’ll send. If we have a malnutrition need, we have a module that just covers that area,” Mr. Damon said.

During the earthquake response in Turkey, they were amazed to see people pulled out of the rubble alive, 10 days later, Mr. Tripp said.

Samaritan’s Purse gains knowledge with each deployment. Dr. Kent Brantly, a Samaritan’s Purse doctor caring for patients in Liberia in 2014 contracted highly contagious Ebola while working to contain a deadly outbreak. He was flown to the United States for treatment in a medical evacuation plane equipped with a special containment unit.

After that, Samaritan’s Purse began annual training for infectious disease response.

“We used the skills that we acquired through Ebola to respond to COVID, which nobody knew anything about. So, we were one of the first to respond as an NGO to COVID,” Mr. Tripp said.

Early in the pandemic, Cremona Hospital in Italy’s Lombardy region, was overwhelmed. Doctors had to decide who to treat and who to let die.

Samaritan’s Purse set up a 68-bed mobile hospital equipped with specialized respiratory care in the parking lot. Later in 2020, Samaritan’s Purse set up COVID-19 response hospitals in New York City’s Central Park; Lenoir, North Carolina; Lancaster, California; and Jackson, Mississippi.

Samaritan’s Purse has 11 field hospitals including small outpatient hospitals and large in-patient hospitals. They have been deployed for cholera treatment in Haiti; war trauma in Mosul, Iraq; blast response in Beirut, Lebanon; hurricane response in the Bahamas; war trauma in multiple Ukraine locations; and earthquake response in Antakya, Turkey.

“Whenever we arrive, hope comes with us, because people are distraught. They have nothing. They’ve lost everything. In Turkey, at least 50 percent of the people lost a loved one in that earthquake,” Mr. Tripp said. “The hope that comes—and it’s not from us—the hope that we have in Jesus Christ is massive, and people see that.”

Samaritan’s Purse also offers children surgical cleft palate clinics; and has arranged for life-saving cardiac surgery for more than 1,500 children in more than a dozen countries.

Wings and Prayers

Samaritan’s Purse has 24 aircraft, including two helicopters and two cargo planes—a Douglas DC-8 and a 1985 Boeing 757 purchased in 2022. After extensive upgrades in avionics and communication systems, the Boeing’s first relief mission was delivering 24 tons of cargo to Maui, Hawaii, to help wildfire victims.

When Samaritan’s Purse is deployed, materials in the warehouse are loaded onto trucks, hauled to the airport, and loaded onto an airplane.

“We do mission work. We do it on a big scale. And we do it well,” Andrew Klischer, director of operations for Samaritan’s Purse, Mission Aviation Services told The Epoch Times as he walked on the pristine, white floor of the airplane hangar in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“When we deploy, there is a recipient on the other end that will receive what we’re bringing, and it will change their life. And that’s not glory to us. We offer people that are hurting or needy, immediate response, in Jesus’ name.”

Every person at Samaritan’s Purse gives credit to God.

Samaritan’s Purse arrives fully self-sufficient, bringing MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat), generators, and a water filtration system developed by their own engineers. They bring everything needed for responders to bathe, sleep, and manage waste, so they are not taking resources from already depleted areas.

They also pack items to give away, including solar lanterns that can charge a phone when the power is out, and waterproof blue tarps that cover homes without roofs or form the foundation under field hospitals.

In the warehouse, large photographs, some covering entire walls, remind employees how their work is felt. Some photos are joyful, like the veteran rising from a freshwater baptism in Alaska, where Samaritan’s Purse hosts Operation Heal Our Patriots, a marriage program for couples to reconnect and adapt to life changes. Many from this program train as volunteers for future disaster response.

One photo shows a Samaritan’s Purse nurse in Iraq, tenderly holding a shirtless toddler with shrapnel wounds on the child’s back.

“It’s the best job I’ve ever had. It’s the best thing I’ve ever been a part of,” aviation mechanic Matt Youngs told The Epoch Times while getting lunch in the cafeteria.

Also in the cafeteria was Steve Nickel, vice president of Donor Ministries, who said the organization doesn’t do traditional fundraising. People see their work, and they give.

“We didn’t do this; God did this. We have one donor [God] if we do everything to please Him, we will have everything we need,” Mr. Nickel said of Samaritan’s Purse’s growth.

“We just want to show people what God is doing, and people do the rest. To ask people for money misses the point.”

He says people see their work, God works on their hearts, and they trust God to provide. “It’s very freeing.”

Back at Mr. Graham’s office, that little bird possibly noticed through the window, a flurry of phone calls and meetings as Samaritan’s Purse whirled into action again, responding to deadly tornadoes and storms in Nebraska, Iowa, and Oklahoma.
