Top 45 players on the Road to Mallorca Rankings compete for one of 20 DP World Tour cards

The European Challenge Tour has announced that the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A will be broadcasted live for the first time in its 27-year history.

The final event of the 2022 Road to Mallorca will take place at Club de Golf Alcanada, Mallorca, from November 3-6 as the top 45 players on the Road to Mallorca Rankings battle it out for one of the 20 life changing DP World Tour cards on offer and a share of the €500,000 prize fund.

All four days of the season finale will be televised live, giving fans the chance to watch the dramatic week unfold as golfing superstars of the future are unearthed. Since its inception in 1989 the Challenge Tour has built a reputation as the perfect platform for players to achieve global success, producing Major Champions including Matthew Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and Trevor Immelman - and Ryder Cup stars, such as Thomas Pieters and Tommy Fleetwood.

NEWLY EXPANDED 2022 ROLEX SERIES RETURNS TO UAE FOR SEASON OPENER

Geneva, Switzerland, 19 January 2022 – The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship from 20-23 January heralds an exciting era for the expanded Rolex Series and the new-look DP World Tour.

In 2022, the Tour will be truly global, featuring a minimum of 45 tournaments in 25 countries, including new events in Belgium, Japan, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Rolex Series celebrates the highest calibre of golf and international spirit of the game, qualities that resonate strongly with Rolex and its own quest for perpetual excellence. Launched in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of Rolex’s partnership with the DP World Tour – previously known as The European Tour – the series comprises five of the premier tournaments on the schedule, namely: the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Dubai Desert Classic, the Genesis Scottish Open, the BMW PGA Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

A record US$10 million prize fund will be on offer at this year’s DP World Tour Championship, making the season finale – also the culmination to the Rolex Series – the first Tour event outside of the Majors and the two World Golf Championships (WGC) tournaments to feature an eight-figure prize fund.

Over the course of more than half a century, Rolex has become intimately linked with the game at all levels, united in a commitment to continuous improvement and unwavering precision. It all began with a pioneering 1967 agreement when golfing legend Arnold Palmer was joined by his great friends and rivals Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player (The Big Three) to become the brand’s first Testimonees in the sport. Underlining its support for golf in Europe, in 1997 Rolex became the Official Timekeeper of The European Tour, a partnership it now maintains through its alliance with the DP World Tour.

BACK-TO-BACK ROLEX SERIES EVENTS Lapped by the waters of the Arabian Gulf, the stunning Yas Links course will host the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship for the first time in the tournament’s history. The 17th edition will be the first of back-to-back events in the UAE, with many of the world’s elite golfers then travelling on to Dubai for the Dubai Desert Classic from 27–30 January. This will mark its debut as a Rolex Series event after being promoted to the DP World Tour’s premium category. England’s Paul Casey will be eager to successfully defend his title, having dominated the field last year to win by four shots and claim a 15th Tour title. The Rolex Testimonee returns to Dubai on the back of five top-10 finishes in his past seven DP World Tour appearances. In lifting the trophy, Casey joined a stellar list of Rolex Testimonees to have won the Dubai Desert Classic over the past quarter of a century. Fred Couples of the United States (1995), Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie (1996) and Spain’s José María Olazábal (1998), all members of golf’s Hall of Fame, are among those to have triumphed at Emirates Golf Club. And this year marks a decade since Spain’s Rafa Cabrera Bello claimed one of his most memorable victories against a field containing three of the world’s top four ranked players. More recently, Haotong Li and Bryson DeChambeau have secured victories at the event, winning in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Haotong recorded the tournament’s lowest ever total in relation to par, finishing on 23 under, only to be eclipsed the following year by Major winner DeChambeau of the United States, who went one shot better.

THE FINAL THREE To be held one week before the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews, the Genesis Scottish Open from 7–10 July will be the third Rolex Series event of 2022, returning to the Renaissance Club in East Lothian for the fourth consecutive year. The course sets a unique challenge. Players must confront the ruggedness and beauty of the links elements, and embrace the values that drive the discipline, to be successful at this original Rolex Series tournament.

From 8–11 September, the world’s leading golfers will gather in the idyllic surroundings of Wentworth Club on the outskirts of London to contest the penultimate Rolex Series tournament, the BMW PGA Championship. Long regarded as the DP World Tour’s flagship event, that status was confirmed in 2017 when it was chosen as one of the founding tournaments of the Rolex Series.

The new-look DP World Tour will see total prize money break through the $200m mark for the first time, with a new minimum prize fund of $2m for all tournaments solely sanctioned by the DP World Tour.

The schedule features a minimum of 47 tournaments in 27 different countries, including new events in the UAE, Japan, South Africa and Belgium. An expanded Rolex Series will comprise of five events: the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, the Genesis Scottish Open, the BMW PGA Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. For the first time, it will also feature three tournaments co-sanctioned with the PGA Tour - the Genesis Scottish Open, the Barbasol Championship and the Barracuda Championship taking place in the United States - as a result of the Strategic Alliance between male professional golf's two leading Tours.

The second round of the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final on Friday could be the most important tournament in the lives of so many amateur golfers. The tournament is being played in Mallorca, Spain. There is a tie at the top of the leaderboard with Javier Sainz and Euan Walker both tied at four-under-par after first round 68s. They are one stroke up on a trio of golfers nipping at their heels. Coming into this event, Sainz was ranked 28th overall and Walker at 18th overall with both looking to steal two of the 15 tour cards up for grabs for the DP World Tour next season.

Both Sainz and Walker wrapped up their days with five birdies and just one bogey to take a share of the lead. They had very similar rounds with early birdies, a quiet front nine that featured their only bogey, and then four birdies scattered about on the back nine.

Just behind them is Alexander Knappe, the top ranked golfer on the tour this season. He is at three-under-par, leading a trio all hoping to overtake the leaders heading into the weekend.

Seventh ranked Todd Clements and fifth ranked Jeong weon Ko are also tied for second place entering Friday.

Euan Walker targets DP World Tour card with strong performance at 2023 Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final after 2022 disappointment

Euan Walker starred in a heartbreaking story in European golf a year ago, missing out on a DP World Tour spot by almost a stroke.

Walker had a great finish at the 2022 Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final but lacked the extra edge of a champion to advance to the next level. The Scot finished the 2022 season ranked 24th on the Challenge Tour. He missed out on the top 20, which earns cards for the following season's DP World Tour, by just three points.

One year later, history is repeating itself.

When the 2023 Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final is played at the Club de Golf Alcanada, Port d'Alcúdia, Mallorca, Spain, Euan Walker will be ranked 20th. In other words, a good performance at the final event will earn him his long-awaited DP World Tour membership.

On his way to Mallorca, Walker spoke to The Scotsman, saying:

"Halfway through the 2022 season, I probably thought I wasn't going to play golf for much longer. I hadn't played that well since COVID and I had started the 2022 season poorly... So, finding some form and putting in a few really good performances kind of rejuvenated me.

"Although it was disappointing to come really close, I actually felt more upbeat about how it finished for me last year."

"I've been consistently good this year [2023]. I've been much better this year than I was last year. As a whole, my statistics are better. I've driven the ball much better. My short game has been better than it has ever been and so far I've putted better than I've ever putted on average.

"My approach play probably hasn't been better, but that's been the strength of my game in the past. Also, my scoring average is down nearly a full shot on last year."

The Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final is the annual tournament that concludes the Challenge Tour , the developmental circuit of the DP World Tour. The top 20 finishers earn an exemption for the following season on the main European circuit.

Who is Euan Walker?

Euan Walker, 27, was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in a golfing environment, which included him pursuing high school in Troon, home of the Royal Troon Golf Course.

He received a scholarship to play golf at the University of Missouri from 2013 to 2016. There, he excelled and helped his team reach the national level.

However, his professional career has not reached the same levels as of yet. Euan Walker has not been able to make it to the DP World Tour , playing most of his time on the Challenge Tour.

On the developmental circuit, he has played 65 tournaments between 2020 and 2023, making 38 cuts. His best result was a win at the 2022 British Challenge, with nine other top-10 finishes. Both his win and all of his top 10s came between 2022 and 2023.

Walker has already made his debut on the DP World Tour, albeit sporadically. He has played in 16 events between 2019 and 2023, with six cuts as his best finish.

Genesis signs new tournament Title Partner agreement in Korea with the DP World Tour

Genesis has signed a new agreement with golf’s DP World Tour that will see the Korea Championship become the Genesis Championship from 2024 onwards, with the tournament merging with the KPGA TOUR’s existing Genesis Championship.

• Agreement will see DP World Tour’s Korea Championship merge with KPGA TOUR’s Genesis Championship from 2024 onwards.
• Tournament merger is part of both Tours’ strategic alliance, with a global field enhancing the tournament’s calibre and excitement.
• Genesis Championship to take place in October, becoming the last event in the Back 9.

The Genesis Championship will be held at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea and will take place from 24-27 October. The tournament now occupies a prime position as the final tournament in the Back 9 - a series of nine events that encompass the DP World Tour’s most historic tournaments and national Opens. The top 110 players on the Race to Dubai Rankings in partnership with Rolex at the conclusion of the Back 9 phase will earn their DP World Tour cards for 2025, while the top 70 qualify for the DP World Tour Play-Offs. The tournament prize fund is increasing to $4million, with 5,000 Race to Dubai Rankings Points now on offer.

The tournament will be co-sanctioned with the KPGA TOUR, with a field comprising 90 DP World Tour players and 30 KPGA TOUR players. This builds on the Strategic Alliance that was agreed between the two Tours in May 2023, which expanded the pathway for KPGA TOUR players to play on the DP World Tour.

This three-year title partnership agreement elevates Genesis’ partnership with the premier men’s professional golf tournament in Korea, where it was previously the presenting partner of the inaugural Korea Championship in 2023. Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal took home the trophy at last year’s Korea Championship for his eighth DP World Tour title. The winner of the 2023 Genesis Championship, Sanghyun Park, will also be headed to the Genesis Scottish Open this year before defending his title in the newly merged 2024 Genesis Championship.

Speaking about the new agreement Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis, said: “We are excited to open a new chapter in the Korean golf scene where global players and Korean players can compete and showcase their skills in Korea. As title sponsor, Genesis takes great pride in supporting Korean male golfers on their journey to the global stage.”

Guy Kinnings, Chief Executive Officer of the DP World Tour, added: “Genesis continues to be an incredible partner to the game of golf worldwide and with this new agreement, the Genesis Championship will be elevated in every way for 2024. Our new look Back 9 phase will add extra excitement, with the tournament playing host to a plethora of dramatic storylines as players bid to keep their Tour cards and qualify for the Play-Offs.”

Wonsup Mike Kim, Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the KPGA TOUR and KPGA added: "As we eagerly anticipate the outstanding performances of KPGA TOUR players participating in the 'Genesis Championship', this event marks a significant milestone in fostering a closer relationship between the DP World Tour and KPGA TOUR. We extend our best wishes for a successful tournament."

Genesis has shown a strong commitment to golf with a history of tournament partnerships. This includes the Genesis Invitational, which has been part of the PGA TOUR since 2017, and the Genesis Scottish Open – a co-sanctioned tournament between the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR – where it has been Title Partner since 2022. Genesis has also supported other renowned golf tournaments including The CJ Cup, The Presidents Cup, and the KPGA TOUR’s Genesis Points list.

We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
