10 Inspiring Bible Verses about Travel

We read several inspirational travel quotes in every travel blog to get us motivated to explore the world. However, we seldom or even rarely read bible verses on travel for reflection and guidance.

Here are some of my favorite bible verses to protect us as we venture and travel the world.

1. Deuteronomy 31:8  – The Lord himself will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forget you. Don’t be afraid and don’t worry.

2.  Psalm 23:3-4 – He gives me new strength. He leads me on paths that are right for the good of His name. Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid, because You are with me. Your rod and Your shepherd’s staff comfort me.

3.  Psalm 91:11 – For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

5. Psalm 32:7-8  – For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.“

6.  Psalm 121:7-8  – The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

8.  Proverbs 16:9  – The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

9.  Proverbs 3:23-24  – Then you will go safely on your way, and you will not hurt your foot. When you lie down, you will not be afraid. As you lie there, your sleep will be sweet.

11.  Joshua 1:9  – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

28 Calming Bible Verses for Travel (safe travels)

August 21, 2023 by Mary 5 Comments

Before your next trip, save these 28 travel bible verses to grant you traveling mercies and keep you calm. These Scriptures are perfect to meditate on as you board, whether you’re traveling by plane, boat, train, bus, or car!

christian travel quotes

An Adventure to Remember

Last month we embarked on a trip we’ve been planning since before we got married over 16 years ago: New Zealand ! Richard was born there and has family there, and we’ve been wanting to go for years. But it seemed like every time we tried to make the trek, something always prevented us from going, whether it was work, a new baby, health concerns, or moving.

But this year, despite going through one of our most challenging years (currently in upheaval with our home being damaged from toxic smoke from a landfill fire), we decided to go anyway. We decided, if we wait for a perfect time to travel, we’ll never go anywhere!

And honestly, it was the perfect time to go — our kids are at such a fun age (9 & 11) and old enough to always have this as a core memory. They got to meet their great-grandfather, aunties & uncles, and cousins they’ve never met before. Not to mention all the breathtaking scenery, new foods, and memorable experiences we all had. The boys even got to sit in the cockpit of our first plane as we boarded!

christian travel quotes

Since we haven’t traveled in a while and this was the longest flight I’ve ever been on (14+ hours!) I needed some tools to help me stay calm. God’s Word is at the top of the list, of course. I thought maybe you could also use some inspiring bible verses to help you stay calm and trust God as you travel!

Psalm 32:7-8

You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Psalm 121:5-8

The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Does God want us to travel the world?

To answer this question simply, yes, God does want us to travel the world.

God calls some of us to travel the world , just like he did in the Bible (Jesus’s disciples, Abram, the exodus of the Israelites, etc.).

Furthermore, there is no doubt that we delight in God when we delight in God’s creation .

Travelquotes.

We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.

Susan Elizabeth George

Before God could bring me to this place He has broken me a thousand times.

Smith Wigglesworth

Without love, there is no reason to know anyone, for love will in the end connect us to our neighbors, our children and our hearts.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Sin is not simply making bad choices or mistakes. Sin is having the desire in our hearts to do the will of the enemy of God.

R. C. Sproul

Jesus is alive. He still changes lives. He still empowers disciples to change the world. He still heals broken hearts.

As Christians, we say what God has said over and over until the thing promised in His Word and desired in our hearts is fully manifested in our lives.

T. B. Joshua

Plenty of kind, decent, caring people have no religious beliefs, and they act out of the goodness of their hearts. Conversely, plenty of people who profess to be religious, even those who worship regularly, show no particular interest in the world beyond themselves.

John Danforth

God the Grand Weaver seeks those with tender hearts so that he can put his imprint on them. Your hurts and your disappointments are part of that design, to shape your heart and the way you feel about reality. The hurts you live through will always shape you. There is no other way.

Ravi Zacharias

You must be yielded to the Word of God. The Word will work out love in our hearts, and when practical love is in our hearts, there is no room to boast about ourselves. We see ourselves as nothing when we get lost in this divine love.

The most important thing is our hearts. The great thing about prayer is that God looks primarily at our hearts.

Greg Laurie

I have seen faith rise 'mountain high' when the truth of God's present love and compassion begins to dawn upon the minds and hearts of the people. It is not what God can do, but what we know He yearns to do, that inspires faith.

F. F. Bosworth

O that our hearts were enlarged in love to God, that we might turn inward, to the blessed comforter, that the blessed Jesus said the Father would send.

Elias Hicks

But if we continue in sin, and rebel and harden our hearts, we shall become so inured and fixed in it, that it will be natural, and we shall choose it from time to time.

You can't be truly sold out to God and not stand out on earth.

David O. Oyedepo

A revival may be expected when Christians have a spirit of prayer for a revival. That is, when they pray as if their hearts were set upon it.

Charles G. Finney

One of my goals for this blog is to inspire new adventure. What really motivates me to travel is getting to know this world a little better and in turn, getting to know the one who created it a little better as well. When prepping for a trip, equipping yourself spiritually is just as important as equipping yourself with any knowledge or luggage. Of all the abundant travel resources out there, I’ve found that scripture is severely lacking from the list. To remedy that, here is my absolute favorite scripture for travel.

Psalm 119:19

I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!

The psalmist is not only referring to temporarily residing in a foreign country, but also temporarily residing on earth. When traveling, of course I resonate with the reference to sojourning in a foreign land. However, I really love this verse because it parallels traveling and the meaning of life. Just as I feel excitement and wonder from traveling in a foreign land, so should I enjoy life every day as I am just passing through.

Ephesians 1:4

Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

Here, Paul is encouraging the church of Ephesus: God himself chose us before he even created the world! For me, the biggest draw to travel is seeing. I will never get tired of seeing a new sunset, city, or landscape. I can hardly grasp that before any of these amazing sights were even formed, God was thinking of me.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

God’s creation includes the humans He created in His image. After all, we are all just visitors blessed with the privilege of exploring this planet.

Psalm 139: 7

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?

Hint: nowhere. Even though the psalmist King David was forced to travel and hide for his life, he still marveled at the inescapable presence of God. While I actually want to wander and find hidden destinations, it’s comforting to know that there is nowhere I can go that God cannot.

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The gospel of John starts from the very beginning: God created. While abroad I easily get lost marveling at the genius of ancient architecture or the complexity of a modern cityscape. And yet human creation was made possible through God. My favorite travel moments are typically in nature, the ones that leave me in complete awe of the brilliance of God.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I was three months old the first time I rode a plane, not to mention that both of my parents were aviators- flying shouldn’t be on my list of fears. And it wasn’t, until an incredibly stormy landing on an incredibly small plane sometime in high school. You know it is bad when even the flight attendant looks terrified. Since finding Jesus, when things get turbulent I now look to this verse instead of my onboard stewards.

I hope that you carry these verses with you on your next adventure! If you have any to add, I would love to know your favorite scripture for travel in the comments.

53 Inspiring Bible Verses

Keep on working, great job!

I just love this blog post. I’m want to add Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert”. To me, this verse fosters a spirit of expectation (on the road and off), plus it’s such a visual representation/reminder of what He can do!

I love that Marissa! It really does foster a spirit of expectation and also adventure to trust where the Lord is leading.

Adriana J.C.

“So they [the children of Israel] took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.” Exodus‬ ‭13:20-22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This was during the first exodus when they fled from Egyptian bondage. God will always lead His children!

Amen! Great scripture to remember when traveling.

Don Wilhelm

Psalm 91 … “and He shall give his Angels charge over you, to guide you in all your paths.”

Amen! Thank you Don, great verse to add.

Jacquelyn Griffin

I like traveling and I have a passion for hiking! Hiking brings me into a closer relationship with Father God, the Lord Jesus, and my husband. It has been fun hiking with people from our church. I don’t have a favorite travel scripture, at this time; but my favorite hiking/travel hymn is “For the Beauty of the Earth”.

Thank you for sharing that Jacquelyn! I’ve never heard that hymn but I just looked it up and love it. Hiking is such an incredible way to worship!

While there are many verses on travel, my go to is Psalm 121 KJV

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Thank you for sharing Tim! That is a great verse too.

Unconfined Ministries Global

Omg Iove this thread. I’m so glad that I came here. Such amazing blog post and awesome comments!! Yes Lord! Thank you!!! Even a Minister can use inspiration!

I’m so glad to hear that!

I love this so much! I’m about to start my journey in my tiny RV! I hope to grow in my relationship with Christ!!

That’s so exciting, Sabrina! Travel is seriously my favorite way to worship and get to know God better. I’m sure a road trip will bring you so much closer to Him. I’ll be praying for you on your new journey.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” This scripture saved me recently. I was ready to run out of fear back to the “Safety” of the U.S. due to a very bad allergic reaction I had in my new home in Mexico. Once I remembered this promise, I was relieved to realize God’s protection is here in Mexico too and I didn’t need to fear. This scripture has give much such relief and comfort.

Now that you say that, I do sometimes picture “home” as the safest place to be, but God and His divine protection are with us any where we go. What a great reminder!

Phillipians 4:6! Pray and repeat before take off- I love traveling but hate flying! Thank you for sharing!

Yes that’s a great one too! I feel the same, it’s a love-hate relationship with flying. Thank you for reading!

Thank you Cassey! Your blog helps me! ☺️ Stay good and healthy! 🪁🪁 May God always protect you and your family!

Thank you so much Jeimmie! The same to you and your family. <3

Made to Travel: Traveling in Biblical Perspective

Jonathan darville | august 19, 2019.

We’ve probably all experienced some of the joys of travel: beholding the beauty of God’s creation, fellowship with friends and family, meeting new people, experiencing other cultures or sharing the gospel. And we have probably all experienced some of the downsides to travel: fatigue, cost, family conflict, danger, work trips that take you away from family and your bed .

In this post, I want to briefly look at travel within the context of the biblical plot movements – creation, fall, redemption, restoration – to see what we can learn about travel from the perspective of a biblical worldview.

Made to Travel

First and foremost, travel is a divine command (vocation). It’s a work trip to do the Lord’s business. God tells Adam and Eve to “be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth” (Genesis 1:28). In other words, traveling is part of humanity’s job description. However, God isn’t so much telling Adam and Eve to leave the Garden as He is telling them to extend the Garden. So, in the beginning, travel was a boon, not a bane, of human existence. And it was something that we did together: with God and one another. We worked together and Sabbathed together (Genesis 2:1-3).

Tragically, we’ve lost the missional, meaningful, sabbatical, worshipful and communal intent of a trip.

Travel Gone Wrong

Of course, things went terribly wrong. Adam and Eve ruined the trip before it really got going. They rebelled against God and were driven from the Garden. Here we see that it is only after the Fall that travel, in the form of exile or banishment, becomes a curse. God had to “turn the car around” in a sense; instead of the trip being about expanding the Garden, it became about finding a way back to the Garden.

Although the cultural mandate remained in force, as a result of sin, Adam and Eve experienced a kind of homelessness. Not only were they estranged from God’s direct presence but creation itself was separated from God’s presence when, after the Fall, heaven and earth no longer overlapped. God vacated the premises, as it were, in judgment and mercy. Now, we all find ourselves in a very different world, on a very different journey: one mixed with joys as well as sorrows. We all now long for home .

Travel Made Right

The consistent testimony of Scripture is that humanity is incapable of making their own way back to God and the Garden. As a result, God faced the seemingly impossible task of reconciling the demands of justice (“the wages of sin is death”) with His promise to save us (Genesis 3:15). How can God make a way home through what appears to be a dead end? As we know, Jesus took a trip that resolved this dilemma. He took a trip from heaven to earth so that we could take a trip to heaven instead of hell:

For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit (Romans 8:3-4).

In short, Jesus brings us home (Ephesians 2:6). He has secured our passage to the New Heavens and New Earth.

Travel in the ‘Already, Not Yet’

It’s hard to deny that there is something troubling about the modern American approach to travel, which at this point could almost be classified as a competitive sport. Travel, especially the travel we see on social media, seems to have devolved into:

  • A search for identity (travel to find myself);
  • A quest for validation (travel as a way to be seen and accepted);
  • The pursuit of meaning (travel as a substitute for purpose);
  • An attempt to satiate an unsatisfied hunger for happiness (travel as a way to titillate and medicate).

Maybe we could summarize all this by saying that travel has become a form of bragging (look at me) and begging (look at me) at the same time.

Tragically, we’ve lost the missional, meaningful, sabbatical, worshipful and communal intent of a trip. In light of these dangers, how should we, as Christians, think about and engage in travel? Can we “redeem the trip”? I’ll share a few thoughts below and then would love to hear from you in the comments:

One of the first things to be said, is that we shouldn’t measure our worth in terms of how many airline miles we have logged or how many exotic destinations we have visited . As Christians, even if we never physically travel more than five miles, we are on a spiritual pilgrimage to a destination infinitely more glorious than any five-star accommodation: “as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him’” (1 Corinthians 2:9). And our identity and value are not determined by our travel itinerary (even our eternal one), but by our union with Christ.

Second, whether we are traveling for work or play (both of which are great), our motivation should be God’s glory and the good of our neighbor, not self-promotion or self-indulgence. Practically, this means that God’s glory will be the preeminent criterion in determining how we steward our time and resources when we are “on the road” (or off it).

For instance, consider our use of that traveling publicist we all cary with us—our cell phones.  St. Augustine would tell us that our loves are disordered if we cannot engage in a work trip or enjoy vacation until we post about it. As an example, we should enjoy hugging our kids and talking with our spouses before/more than we do posting or scrolling to see other people hugging their children and talking with their spouses. Of course, there is nothing wrong with posting about our travels. The point is just that we shouldn’t allow our phones to interfere with work or family life, and that our motivation when posting should be to share the delight of a God enabled experience or apprehension of truth with the people we love—as opposed to receiving praise from strangers.

Third, we should travel with an eye towards the opportunities God will provide to share the gospel and extend mercy . In other words, whether we are traveling for work or play, we should be looking for opportunities on the plane, playground or in the hotel lobby for chances to tell people about and practically show them the love of Jesus.

We shouldn’t measure our worth in terms of how many airline miles we have logged or how many exotic destinations we have visited.

Final Destination

Regardless of who we are, what we are all really looking for on our trips transcends the places we can go by land, air or sea. Deep down, whether we know it or not, what we all really want is to arrive on the shores of the New Heavens and New Earth—our true home. As Jewel says in C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Last Battle’ when arriving in the true Narnia: “I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now.” The new creation is our real country and one day we will get there, but until then, let’s go (Matthew 28:16-20) and tell as many people as we can that there is only one means of “transportation” to that glorious destination—the Person and Work of Jesus Christ.

Bible Verses About Adventure

What does the bible say about adventure.

When your heart is set upon Christ the Christian life is far from boring. It’s filled with adventure and many exciting moments. Walking intimately with our Savior is a lifelong journey in which you are being molded into His image. Let’s learn more about the Christian adventure below.

25 Important Bible Verses About Adventure

“Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.”

“The beautiful thing about this adventure called faith is that we can count on Him never to lead us astray.” – Chuck Swindoll

“The Christian experience, from start to finish, is a journey of faith.” Watchman Nee

“Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

“Christ-likeness is your eventual destination, but your journey will last a lifetime.”

There are benefits to being intimate with Christ

When God’s presence is not a reality in our lives, then our walk with Christ becomes mundane. The more intimate you become with the Lord, the more adventurous life becomes. Even the most simplistic things such as reading your Bible and watching a sermon become adventurous because you’re beginning to experience Him.

When you become intimate with the Lord you begin to listen to God’s voice more. You begin to realize that when you read Scripture that is an opportunity for God to speak directly to you. How awesome is this! It’s an adventure to see what God is going to say and do next. It’s such a privilege to be able to witness God’s work in our lives.

Are you seeking to get to experience His presence more? When you do your walk becomes less ritualistic and you begin to grow in your love relationship with the Lord. When you spend time in the presence of the Lord you will become bolder and you will be more effective when God uses you around your community. A strong prayer life should lead us to adventurous situations all around us.

There is nothing boring about being used by God. There is so much activity being done by the Lord, but we miss out because our eyes are blind to the little things that God is doing right in front of us. Start spending time with the Lord and take advantage of the opportunities that God gives you. Pray that He would include you in what He is doing around you. Be aware of every subtle situation and every encounter that you have with someone.

1. Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy ; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

2. Philippians 3:10 “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death.”

3. John 5:17 “But He answered them, “ My Father is working until now , and I Myself am working.”

4. John 15:15 “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

5. Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good ; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

6. Exodus 33:14 “And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

7. John 1:39 “ Come,” he replied, “and you will see . So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.”

Your life will be filled with ups and downs

It’s not fun when you’re going through trials, but trials bear glorious fruit in our lives. They also make for great stories. What’s a good adventure story without a little conflict?

Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Sometimes I look back at all of my trials and I can’t believe all of the things that I endured on my walk with Christ. I look back and I remember God’s faithfulness in each trial. This life is a long journey and you will go through hard times. However, in our hard times let’s look to Christ and not our circumstances.

8. 2 Corinthians 11:23-27 “Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.”

9. John 16:33 “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

10. 2 Corinthians 6:4-6 “Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love.”

11. James 1:2-4 “ Consider it pure joy , my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

12. Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good , for those who are called according to his purpose.”

God is going to do a mighty work in you

This is a lifelong adventure with Christ. God’s great goal is to work in you and conform you into the image of Christ. Whether it’s in marriage, in singleness, at work, while volunteering, at church, etc. God is going to do a mighty work. He’s going to work in you when life is going great. He is going to work in you when you’re going through trials. He is going to work in you when you make mistakes. If you are in Christ, you can rest assured that He won’t give up on you. Some people grow slower than others, but one thing that you can be confident in is that if you are in Christ you will bear fruit.

13. Philippians 2:13 “For it is God who is producing in you both the desire and the ability to do what pleases him.”

14. Romans 8:29-30 “For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son , so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.”

15. Ephesians 4:13 “Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

16. Thessalonians 5:23 “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Prayer is greatly needed on your Christian adventure

You will not get far on your walk with Christ without prayer. It’s unfortunate that many believers are neglecting prayer. Have we forgotten that God moves through prayer? Sometimes God does not change our situation immediately, but that’s OK. It’s OK because He’s changing us and He’s helping us to pray according to His will. It’s OK because He hears us and He’s working behind the scenes, but we might not see the fruits of it just yet.

God is doing something through your prayers. Praying makes this lifelong adventure so much more rich and intimate. It’s no coincidence that when I pray I see things happen. Even if it takes three years don’t give up! If it was worth it to start praying about it, then keep praying about it!

17. Luke 18:1 “Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart.”

18. Ephesians 6:18 “Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.”

19. Colossians 4:2 “ Devote yourselves to prayer , being watchful and thankful.”

20. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”

21. Acts 12:5-7 “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. 6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.”

Continue trusting in the Lord

On this adventure you must not stop trusting in the Lord. Sometimes times might get rough and you have to walk by faith that God is leading you in the right direction. You have to trust that He is good, and He knows what He is doing even if you are oblivious to what He is doing.

22. Proverbs 3:5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding ; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

23. Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

24. Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts , and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.”

25. John 14:26-27 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Traveling is ubiquitous in our lives. From day to day work commutes to going on a trip or vacation with our family or friends, we are constantly traveling. And we thank God that traveling has also been made easy. We can turn to many modes of transportation to bring us to our desired destinations. However, traveling still remains a stressful activity. We worry about safety, the sudden change in weather, missed flights, or lost luggage. The list of what can go wrong while traveling is endless and daunting. How and what can we do to deal when such a situation arises? We can turn to our God and say a quick prayer for safe travel.

Biblical characters like Noah ( Genesis 7:1-24 ), Abraham ( Genesis 12:1-20 , Genesis 13:1-18 ), and Moses ( Exodus 4:18-31 ) have also embarked on several epic journeys. They would have fervently prayed for a safe journey and blessings. Similarly, we should also pray each time we go on a trip. I personally believe that prayer for safe travel is a powerful thing to do before any trip. By praying, we are inviting God and trusting Him that He will get us to our destination, safe and sound. Here are some short prayers for travel that we can pray before traveling.

1. A Short Prayer for Safe Travel

Here is a short prayer for safe travel that you can say right before your trip.

Lord, I know that You watch my coming and going. Today, I pray for You to watch over me as I travel. Keep me safe in Your loving arms. Let no harm come upon me during my trip and cover me under Your mighty wings. As I step out and start on my journey, I will choose to trust you and not give in to fear. Help me get to my destination and get home safely. Help me to experience Your greatness and love during this trip so that I may draw even closer to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Psalm 121:7-8 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

95 most inspirational travel quotes ever penned

Our favourite inspirational travel quotes have encouraged us to travel with abandon over the years. Perhaps they will do the same for you…

For us, there is no such thing as luxury travel; travel is, by default, a luxury. It is a privilege provided by the country of our birth, a privilege that many are not as fortunate to enjoy.

Sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves at just how ridiculous our lives have become: an ex-teacher and jobbing writer travelling the world for a living. It is absurd, it is astonishing, it is luxury.

When I first went travelling at 21 years old, my father gave me this quote scrawled on a piece of card.

inspirational travel quotes

It infused me with wanderlust. It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make the most of my time, see the world and enjoy the freedom that comes with being on the road. It remains one of the most inspirational travel quotes I’ve read (even if Twain did not actually say it).

Today, 20 years and almost 100 countries later, it’s still in my wallet. Despite its tattered and dishevelled appearance, it’s every bit as important to me now as it was then.

With that in mind, we’ve collated our most beloved inspirational travel quotes to encourage readers to “explore, dream and discover” for themselves.

65 Beautiful Quotes to Wish Someone a Safe Journey

Know someone who is about to set off on holiday or go abroad? Here are 65 creative and thoughtful ways to say ‘Have a safe trip’. Copy and paste these safe journey wishes to show them that you care.

Saying goodbye to someone who’s about to depart on a journey can be difficult. Even as a writer, I often struggle to find the right words to say.

These days, I’m usually on the receiving end of goodbyes – but I’ve had to say my fair share of farewells, too.

While ‘Have a safe journey’ will sometimes suffice, quoting a simple message, a beautiful saying or even a traditional blessing is an easy way to make a farewell more meaningful and memorable.

I’ve searched books, song lyrics and inspirational sites to come up with this list of 65 safe journey wishes . You can say these out loud, or you can copy and paste your favourite into an email, use it in a caption on social media, or better still, jot it down on a hand-written note!

  • The best quotes about travelling with friends
  • The best quotes about travelling alone
  • The best quotes for travelling with family
  • Inspiring quotes about adventure & hiking
  • Beautiful sunset captions for social media

Tips for wishing someone a safe journey

Goodbyes are often emotional and can be overwhelming, especially when they take place at the airport or at the station. These tips can make saying farewell that much easier.

  • Don’t leave your goodbye until the last minute. If you want to make it meaningful, make sure you set aside enough time to say everything you want to say.
  • Focus on the next time you’ll meet. Whether it’s catching up for a meal or picking them up from the airport, make a plan and remind them (and yourself) that it’s only a matter of time before you see each other again.
  • Make a time to speak. If you know you’ll hear their voice when the flight lands or the train pulls in, you’ll feel much better about sending them off.
  • Remember, the person travelling is excited for the journey ahead – but they’re probably just as emotional as you!
  • Reassure them that you’ll be thinking of them. These safe journey wishes are perfect for just that.
  • It’s not only about what you say, it’s also what you do. Depending on your relationship, a warm hug or a hand on the shoulder can mean a lot.

Short and sweet safe journey wishes

These safe journey messages are thoughtful but to the point. They’re especially good for saying a quick goodbye on social media or by text message.

  • Best wishes for a safe, happy and fulfilling journey.
  • May the road be kind to you.
  • Go safe, move safe, leave safe, home safe.

A quote graphic.

This goodbye message comes from a Middle English phrase meaning ‘May you prosper’.

When NASA astronaut John Glenn made the first manned orbital flight in 1962, mission control used the word ‘Godspeed’ to wish him a safe journey.

  • Catch you on the flip side!

We often use this friendly way of saying goodbye in Australia. It comes from late-night radio DJs, who would use the phrase before they put on a vinyl record.

Listeners knew they wouldn’t hear from the DJ again until the record had played through and they had ‘flipped’ the vinyl to the B side.

  • Stay out of trouble!

A cheeky way of saying ‘Have a safe journey’, appropriate for someone you know well!

  • Smooth sailing!

First coined in the 14th Century, this phrase prophesied calm waters free from rough waves for someone who was about to set sail on the high seas.

It doesn’t just apply to water travel – nowadays, it can be used as a generic saying to wish someone a breezy journey.

  • “May the air be clear, your flight smooth, the plane ride safe, and the sky blue!” – Unknown
  • “May angels fly with you wherever you roam and guide you back safely to family and home.” – Traditional Irish blessing
  • “The more you weigh, the harder you are to kidnap. Stay safe. Eat cake!” – Unknown

A quote graphic.

  • “The world is waiting for you. Good Luck. Travel Safe. Go!” – Phil Keoghan (The Amazing Race)
  • “I don’t want you coming back empty-handed – I want you coming back with a head full of tall tales, absurdities, and little moments of beauty. Have a safe trip!” – Unknown
