The best op shops in Melbourne

We scoured the op shops and thrift stores around Melbourne to find the best ones for your needs

Leah Glynn

Melbourne is one city that has no short supply of op shops, no matter the suburb you’re in. And, as far as shopping options go, they can do no wrong: helping you shop ethically, do good for the planet and people and get your hands on some stylish finds. Whether you’re looking for '70s furniture or you’re after vintage sportswear, all it takes is a little bit of digging to find some gems, at a fraction of the price if you were to buy new.

To make your op shop exploration that little bit easier, we’ve found the best spots in Melbourne for all your second-hand needs .

Need a feed to go along with your shopping spree? Here are Melbourne's best cheap eats.  Keen to do some good? Here's where you can volunteer in Melbourne.

Melbourne's 7 best op shops

Savers Moorabbin

Savers Moorabbin

Savers is one op shop that lives up to its superstore status. Though there are a number of Savers stores peppered throughout Melbourne, the Heatherton store found in the Moorabbin Super Centre offers a particularly good selection of homewares, furniture and clothing, fit for all tastes and styles. You can easily spend hours digging through the racks, so make sure you put enough time aside in your day to pay it a visit.

A hot tip: if you drop off your preloved goods at Savers, you’ll get a 20 per cent off voucher to use instantly in-store.

Salvos Store: Abbotsford

Salvos Store: Abbotsford

If you’re after stylish furniture to deck out your house, look no further than Salvos in Abbotsford. Out the back you’ll find a huge space filled with homewares, couches, beds and dining tables, all in great condition and priced well. This is guaranteed to be a much better time than trying to source second hand furniture online, and at a fraction of the price.

Vinnies: Port Melbourne

Vinnies: Port Melbourne

  • Port Melbourne

Port Melbourne isn’t the first place that comes to mind when most people think of op shops in Melbourne, but the Vinnies on Bay Street is here to prove everyone wrong. There’s an impressive collection of European labels, and a tonne of kitschy homewares to take your decor to the next level. Being a smaller store, it's definitely more about quality than quantity here.

Brotherhood of St Laurence: Brunswick

Brotherhood of St Laurence: Brunswick

It wouldn’t be a complete list of the best op shops in Melbourne without featuring the Brotherhood of St Laurence store in Brunswick. From quality vinyl to furniture, books and popular clothing brands, it's a gold mine in the form of an op shop. The ‘special finds’ section is particularly great if you’re on the lookout for vintage designer. And best of all, it’s perfectly positioned, close to all of the goodness that Lygon Street has to offer.

Sacred Heart Mission: St Kilda

Sacred Heart Mission: St Kilda

You’ll find this Sacred Heart Mission on one of St Kilda’s most renowned streets. Head here for one-of-a-kind designer pieces, accessories and an impressive selection of retro art and cooking books, with stock replenished regularly. If you can’t make it to the store in person, Sacred Heart also has a quality online store. While it is a little pricier than shopping in its brick-and-mortar’s, it'll save you from having to trawl through racks (though that is where a lot of the fun happens).

Toorak Opportunity Shop

Toorak Opportunity Shop

The Toorak Opportunity Shop may be small, but it is mighty. Here you’ll find pieces from high-end brands in near-perfect condition, with an impressive selection of local and global labels, natural materials and classic cuts. While it is a little pricier than your usual op shop, the condition of its items and the selection of stock make up for it.

Sacred Heart Mission: Fitzroy

Sacred Heart Mission: Fitzroy

Similar to its St Kilda sibling, the Fitzroy store is one place you’ll rarely walk out of without nabbing something great. With an impressive collection of books and clothes that are super varied, the high turnover of stock means you can keep coming back on a weekly basis and always spot something new. This store is definitely a little more eclectic than others given its uber-cool location, but it's a great option if you’re in the mood for putting together a retro outfit.

18 Best Op Shops In Melbourne For 2024

By Ioana Dragnef 1st Jan 2024

best-op-shops-melbourne

It may be over 10 years since the song came out, but we’ll never forget the poetic words of Macklemore - “one man’s trash is another man’s come up”. And heading into the layer-heavy autumn and winter seasons, Macklemore's 2012 rumination still has some underrated merit. There will be two distinct camps: the spenders and the spendthrifts, and the cunning ones will harness the musky, eclectic glory of the op shop to safeguard their pennies and rock some vintage drip.

Get a fur coat on and let the crawl commence—these are some of the best Op Shops in Melbourne for 2023:

BRUNSWICK, COLLINGWOOD, PRAHRAN

There’s no other way to put it - Goodbyes is like Depop irl. Go in, give up the pieces that you just don’t wear anymore but know they’re still worth sometime to someone, and profit once it’s been bought. Goodbyes is rack after rack of pre-loved items, all from your local community. The team have a sharp eye for things they think will sell, so you’re probably gonna find your next statement piece among the aisles, making Goodbyes one of the best op shops Melbourne has to offer.

VARIOUS LOCATIONS

There’s nothing better than heading to a thrift store and leaving with a big bag of goodies. Luckily, Savers is so massive that it’s nearly impossible to leave empty-handed, what with their massive warehouses packed to the rafters with clothes, homeware, furniture and knick-knacks. Since they’re so readily distributed across Melbourne, it’s hard to pick just one to name as the best op shop in Melbourne, but we guarantee you’ll come across an amazing find in whichever you go to.

Lost And Found

Fitzroy .

In terms of variety, you absolutely can’t go wrong with this place. Lost and Found is a giant warehouse filled with absolutely everything you could ever want, if you’re a fashionista or home decorator that is. This isn’t necessarily the place to get a bargain however - it’s a resale store first and foremost, and it’s definitely not cheap, but you can score some of the coolest vintage gear you won’t find anywhere else. Also, make sure you dedicate at least an afternoon to trawling through this place - you’re gonna need it.

Brotherhood Of St Laurence

Various locations.

Get a solid fit and help an amazing cause at the many Brotherhood of St Laurence stores. Dedicated to addressing poverty, BSL is an organisation where helping the greater community is the core of its ethos.  And here’s a cheeky heads up; the one on the corner of Brunswick Road and Lygon Street is one of the best op shops Brunswick (and Melbourne) has on deck.

Retrostar Vintage Clothing

Opening up shop in 2002, RetroStar Vintage Clothing is now hailed as the largest vintage store in Melbourne. Their specialty? All things 1940s through to 1990s (hello JT-and-Brit-worthy denim ensembles). It’s a maze of clothes, shoes, bags and bling.

Vintage Sole

Cbd, fitzroy.

The thrifty breed of shopaholics behind Vintage Sole have been in the biz of garnering vintage clothing, footwear and accessories for over a decade now. Think of all the retro sunnies you’ve seen swathing the ‘gram lately, rolled out with other gold nuggets in stores that’ll make your hearts go pitter-patter.

CBD, WINDSOR

Professional hunters and gatherers, Shag ’s vintage finds are hallmarked by a zany, technicolour trend. We’re talking endless embellishments, out-there ear candy, and if you’re planning on time-travelling anytime soon to a sequin-clad era, just get yourself in here.

Hunter Gatherer

Fitzroy, cbd.

A jewel in the crown of the second-hand fashion arena, Hunter Gatherer has operated under the Brotherhood of St Laurence to bring traditional vintage clothing together under a canopy of neon signage. So next time you’re admiring the impossibly-cool dressing of Fitzroy locals, head to HG and find your own Grandma-chic groove. We know you already have a brunch date a few streets away.

Storehouse Thrift

Windsor, bendigo, northcote, kyabram.

This story is pretty heartwarming one. We aspire to be as savvy and altruistic as the crew behind Storehouse Thrift , a bunch of do-gooders working to combat addiction in adolescents. You know that shopping through these garments will not only perfect your Cher à la Clueless Wardrobe Master Plan (still so very cool) but also help a heck load of people.

SOUTH YARRA

Pre-loved pieces are rocking the racks at Secondo. WARNING: This one will get severely expensive, so if you’re looking for a $-saving rummage, take your pennies elsewhere. If, however, you’re into all things consignment clothing, they’ve got a whimsical assortment of high fashion to sieve through.

Toorak Opportunity Shop

Yeah, it’s a huge oxymoron. Toorak might be the last place you’d think to hit the ground running for some op shop hopping. But you'll be surprised to know the Toorak Opportunity Shop only stocks its shelves with an impressive league of quality, cared-for and preserved goodies that you’d swear were untouched.

The Posh Opp Shop

Elsternwick .

All of the loot you swipe at The Posh Opp Shoppe will go towards children living with disabilities. Sweet op-shop bargains for a good cause—that's the dream, right? These guys offer up a range of toys, children and adults clothing, jewellery and heaps more. Bring a big bag.

Red Cross Op Shops

These guys have a simple mantra to help you remember the difference between ‘donation’ versus ‘bin it’ pile: ‘If it’s good enough to give to a friend, it’s something we’d love’. The profits made here go to a whole crop of great causes, including disaster relief abroad. Take a stroll through the Red Cross Op Shops and you’ll get your Splendour get-up sorted while doing a good deed.

Salvos Stores

Hey, studious folks. Our favourite thing about Salvos Stores across Melb is their almighty student discount day. Yup. Every Wednesday, show your student card to save 20% off your haul and find a sensational outfit for that next Uni booze cruise you’re boarding. Our pick? Cheltenham. Just a stone’s throw from the shopping cosmopolis of Westfield. Definitely add this to your weekend to-do.

Chapel Street Bazaar

Do you know that scene from Wild Child where Emma Roberts and her posse have a shopping spree-turned-music-video moment in the British op shop? You can recreate that at the Chapel Street Bazaar . It’s a cacophony of crockery, crystals, dolls, shoes, clothes and jewels, but spliced into stalls by passionate purveyors, like an antique mini-mall.

Sacred Heart Mission Op Shops

If you purchase a distressed, brown satchel from the South Melb Sacred Heart window for 8 dollars, you’ll have just funded 2x three-course meals to someone in need. Mind-boggling but completely legitimate. Stock is sorted and displayed on a daily basis, which is also pretty bloody impressive. We’d recommend turning to the Sacred Heart Mission op shops when embarking on a leather hunt, or simply in the mood for a good convo with the dedicated and chatty retailers.

Vinnies Op Shops

The Vinnies Op Shops pepper our city like little gold deposits with pristine window displays and oodles of bargains. They’re clean and specialise in sifting through hoards of donations to weed out the best stuff for you. Special mention to the huge collection of crockery and adorable kids’ clothing at the Hampton fixture. Very good for fitting out shared house kitchens. Live it, learn it.

Family Life Opportunity Shops

While all of the Family Life Op Shops do their bit at assisting vulnerable families in our city, the Highett trove also hosts a PeopleWorx program. Basically, they help people develop customer service skills and retail experience to assist them in their search for full-time employment. That’s worthy of some applause. The shop sells furniture, books, clothing and electrical goods—you know the drill.

23 best vintage and op shops in Melbourne

By: Author Brittany

Posted on Last updated: July 21, 2020

Shops like H&M and Forever 21 make the latest fashion trends accessible for those on almost any budget. But fast fashion is  not sustainable … and for a city like Melbourne that’s saying no to plastic bags and home to the “world’s most sustainable shopping center,” there has to be another way to look good while doing good. On a recent visit to the city, I made it my mission to find the best op shops Melbourne has to offer, because one of the best souvenirs is an eco-friendly, thrifted t-shirt from a new city!

Best op shops: Melbourne’s go-to stores for vintage clothing, retro wares and great deals!

Brotherhood of st laurence, 23 locations across greater melbourne.

“The Brotherhood of St Laurence currently operates 23 community stores across Greater Melbourne, and their success relies on the passionate and dedicated team of staff, more than 700 volunteers and the generous donations received for the communities in which we work.

The stores raise vital funds to assist in the delivery of our many programs and services which work towards building better lives for all Australians.” – Brotherhood’s Mark Lane, Head of Social Enterprises

I recently visited the Moonee Ponds warehouse, where the savvy thrift shopper will find furniture, clothes, costumes, books and home goods. All electrical purchases come with a two week warranty (with receipt), so go ahead… buy that blender!

Camberwell Sunday Market

In pre- (and hopefully post-) COVID times, the Camberwell Sunday Market faithfully opened each Sunday from 6:30am-12:30pm (except the Sunday before Christmas) with 370 stalls of treasure. And if you don’t mind doing a little hunting, you’re sure to find the perfect addition for your treasure chest. The suburban car park is transformed with buskers and performers, lending a party-like atmosphere to the weekly extravaganza!

Entry is a gold coin donation, which the Balwyn Rotary uses to fund a variety of charitable causes.

Chapel Street Bazaar

If you want to go vintage shopping, Melbourne’s Chapel Street Bazaar runs the gamut of beautiful, bizarre, and quirky finds. The iconic shop is actually 80 shops in one, with stalls full of unique retro and vintage finds. Their Facebook page promises flying ducks, musical instruments, comics, rocking horses and numismatics in addition to the more traditional clothing, shoes, and homeware you’d find in other vintage shops. Melbourne is certainly a more colorful city thanks to Chapel Street Bazaar.

Cheltenham Opportunity Shop

Since 1961, St. Matthew’s Anglican Church has served the local community through the Cheltenham Opportunity Shop. If you’re hunting for bargains on clothing and footwear, household supplies, and more, don’t miss this Melbourne thrift store!

Circa Vintage Clothing

Owned by Nicole, who is a certified costume designer, Circa Vintage Clothing began as a personal collection and grew into one of the best vintage shops Melbourne has to offer. While the shop has closed, Nicole is still available for fashion and textile projects, talks, and exhibitions. Her site offers a wealth of knowledge on vintage clothes, and any thrifter is sure to be busy for hours reading all about vintage fashion!

Family Life Opportunity Shops

Black rock, chelsea, cheltenham, hampton, highett.

Purchase pre-loved clothes, electronics, and home goods to keep them out of landfills and give back to the local community. Family Life Opportunity Shops have been helping the most vulnerable in the community for over 50 years!

Shop online from the comfort of your couch!

Hunter Gatherer

Cbd + fitzroy.

“Second-hand stores also offer the opportunity for goods to get a second life – keeping them out of landfill. Also as the name Op Shop suggests – it gives people in the community the opportunity to get quality goods at affordable prices.” -Brotherhood’s Mark Lane, Head of Social Enterprises

Hunter Gatherer is an initiative by Brotherhood of St. Laurence to provide clothing of a slightly higher quality in their vintage stores in Melbourne CBD and Fitzroy. Expect to find funky retro clothing and designer labels in what feels more like a boutique than a thrift store.  The friendly staff, cute arcade location and great selection makes this one of the best op shops in Melbourne CBD!

Lost and Found Market

Lost and Found Market on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy feels a bit like raiding your cool aunt’s closet… if you had 20 cool aunts. This Melbourne vintage shop gives stall-holders the chance to sell clothing, art, bric-a-brac, vinyl and more, so be sure to allow plenty of time to peruse the 900 square meter warehouse full of vintage goods and collectables.

St. George’s Parish Bargain Shop

Flemington .

St. George’s Parish Bargain shop has great deals on second-hand items and their Facebook page  gives great tips on extending the life of clothing you already own!

Posh Opp Shoppe

Glenhuntly + elsternwick .

The two Posh Opp Shoppe locations are treasure troves of vintage designer clothing, toys, jewelry, and furniture– all of a high quality. Feel good about your purchases knowing your money is going to JCAS, which helps kids with disabilities attend day schools.

Red Cross Op Shops

Almost everywhere.

Red Cross is one of the best op shops Melbourne has to offer, and with locations all over the city , you’re sure to find one near you.

Red Cross in Collingwood is one of the best op shops in Melbourne for designer clothes. When I visited, there was an entire section of brand new Gorman outfits! Look for their “Designer” sign that promises all the chic without the shabby.

Retrostar Vintage Clothing

One of the most famous and central vintage shops Melbourne CBD has to offer is Retrostar Vintage Clothing. Located just across the street from Flinders Street Station, this shop has an entire room devoted to leather, and their main room is bursting with colorful vintage clothing. Melbourne CBD isn’t usually known for retro goods, but Retrostar Vintage is doing its best to make vintage clothing accessible to everyone!

Sacred Heart Mission Op Shops

12 locations across greater melbourne.

The Sacred Heat Mission’s website states that “our unique second hand shops in Melbourne raise almost 30% of Sacred Heart Mission’s funds and aim to raise awareness of our work.”

I first learned about Sacred Heart through their Dine With Heart Month . I love that they’re getting the community involved and doing good work with a foodie twist .

Their 12 locations across Melbourne   promote ethical shopping while raising funds for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Mandatory lockdowns cramping your thrifting? Sacred Heart Mission is trading online , so you can get the best vintage clothing Melbourne has to offer sent straight to your front door!

Salvos Stores

86 locations across greater melbourne .

Salvos has 330 shops across Australia and they’re committed to serving their communities by giving back 100% of their profits. When the bush fires hit, the Salvation Army was there. And when lockdown was reinstated, they upped their support.

As one of the best op shops in Melbourne, you’ll find clothes, books, games, sports equipment, homeware, and nearly anything else you can think of!

Shop online to give back, even when you can’t shop in person.

Savers Recycle Superstore

Brunswick, footscray, greensborough, ringwood, heatherton.

According to their website , “More than 2 million people helped save over 5.6 billion liters of water with one simple act: choosing a thrifted T-shirt instead of a new one.” Savers Recycle Superstore is passionate about providing great second-hand clothing at an affordable price and educating the community about the benefits of choosing thrifted clothing over new.

With brand names in well-organized departments, dressing rooms, and shopping trolleys, you’ll feel like you’re shopping at a department store!

South Yarra

Secondo is a second-hand shop committed to rehoming pre-loved international and local designer labels. If you’re used to Gucci and Prada prices, Secondo’s tags will feel like a steal. Their clothing is in immaculate condition, and the owners are committed to creating beautiful displays and a homelike atmosphere.  If you’re prepared for the $100+ price tags on nearly every item, you’ll be glad to know that with every purchase, you’re benefitting the Prahran Mission and Siwali Community School for disadvantaged children in West Jakarta, Indonesia.

Collingwood, Windsor

Shag is one part retro shop, one part museum, and 100% fabulous. It is a feast for the eyes, with one-of-a-kind heirlooms and extravagant jewelry at this vintage store. Melbourne treasure hunters and shop owners have an eye for style, and you won’t be disappointed if you’re searching for vintage elegance, OTT sequins, and bodacious bling.

Search for your perfect piece online here . There’s currently a hand-painted, sequined tiger jean jacket… which I believe is a royally awesome addition to any COVID-inspired closet.

Shappere is an absolute gem and a hipster’s heaven. Levi’s jackets, vintage dresses, distressed tees, and a collection of leather ankle boots are curated for this Melbourne vintage shop from all around the world!

Storehouse Thrift

Windsor, bendigo, richmond, northcote, kyabram.

When I visited the colorful and inviting Storehouse Thrift in Windsor, the friendly staff was advising a customer on the perfect outfit for a special occasion. The shop was beautifully organized and is a treasure trove of quirky costumes, designer brands, and seasonal trends.

Their shops benefit Teen Challenge International Victoria, a teen addictions rehabilitation program aimed at helping young men overcome their struggles with addictions.

With over 100 shops in Victoria, you’ll be able to find almost anything you need at a Vinnies. The shops sell clothing, furniture, kitchen gadgets, and decor items.

The shop prides themselves on their army of volunteer workers, which means they’re able to do a lot with every dollar that comes into the organization.

Vintage Garage in Collingwood is home to some of the funkiest vintage clothing Melbourne has to offer. There is no shortage of sequins and flair here. My Top 12 Op Shops in Melbourne

op shop tour melbourne

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I love a good hunt through an op shop. Whether I’m foraging for myself or friends, or sourcing stock for my online thrift store, I’ll rarely pass an op shop without having a quick scour. I recently wrote this blog about three of the most organised op shops in Melbourne for beginners not wanting to rummage too much, and now I’m compiling a list of all my Melbourne favourites – and why. I’m a southside girl so all of these treasure troves are around the south/south eastern suburbs.

Vinnies Hampton

I find the Vinnies on Hampton Street a great beginners op shop, because you get to have a good rummage but still usually find some designer gems in your first few racks. The prices are reasonable, not rock bottom but certainly not as inflated as they could be, and I find it gives the Salvos opposite a real run for its money.

Good for midweight brands like Gorman, Karen Millen and BCBG Maxazria.

Vinnies Malvern

This was one of my first op shops, but I often find really good shoes here. They have a good ‘new in’ rack at the front, and a big shoe section that rotates regularly. Prices are a little higher than average in general, but you’ll sometimes find a anomaly!

Good for designer shoes, designer sunglasses and women’s tops.

Vinnies Oakleigh

I LOVE this Vinnies. It’s pretty big and the ladies there are really friendly. They have some of the best prices, and their women’s pants section is out of control good. They also have some pretty good vintage two-pieces, as well, and their occasionwear is very reasonable.

Good for occasionwear, designer accessories in the glass cabinet.

Salvos Carnegie

This tiny gem on the corner of Koornang Road is small but mighty. They often have amazing knitwear and vintage blouses, and I’ve found two pristine condition Oroton bags here, and a Coach wallet.

Good for leather bags, shoes, and knitwear.

Salvos Dandenong

I almost don’t want too many people to know about this one because it’s that good. It’s a really big warehouse-style Salvos, and their prices are renowned for being unbelievably low.

Good for well priced jackets and vintage shirts.

Savers Moorabbin

This is a bit of a staple for southsiders but it’s worth a mention. This gigantic op shop is almost sure to have something you’re after, and with high stock turnover and amazing seasonal 50% off events, you can visit regularly and still spot new stock.

Good for vintage two-piece sets, knitwear and shoes. Great mix of designer and vintage.

Brotherhood of St Lawrence Bentleigh

This is a strange little op shop but when you find goodies their prices are often incredible. I’ve spotted Gucci shoes, Ted Baker dresses and picked up a vintage Fiorelli briefcase bag for $5. They also have 50% off sales so keep your eyes peeled for advertising.

Great for fixed prices categories (i.e. all knits $8).

Salvos Bentleigh

I love stopping by Salvos in Bentleigh for a rummage. I’ve seen so many vintage longline wool coats here, and some great leather belts.

Great for vintage coats and belts.

Sacred Heart Mission Commercial Road

The Commercial Road Sacred Heart Mission is infinitely better than the Chapel Street one, in my experience. I find this one is amazing for designer goodies at surprisingly low prices.

Great for mid-high end brands like Sandro, Escada and Lisa Ho.

Sacred Heart Mission Bentleigh

Another designer treasure trove, Sacred Heart Mission in Bentleigh is often packed with Levi’s, Converse, vintage dresses, designer sunglasses and pristine condition occasionware. Their prices are great, too.

Good for occasionwear and dresses.

Salvos Abbotsford

This is a real rummager’s haven, but dig deep and you’ll find well-priced vintage goodies and some hidden designer gems. I’ve seen Coach heels here, REISS pencil skirts and some great jewellery.

Good for well-priced designer and vintage shirts.

Salvos Malvern

There’s almost always designer goodies in here, but they’re definitely woke to what brands sell well, so be prepared to pay a bit extra here. The store is well organised in colour palettes, too, helping you find what you’re looking for quickly.

Good for designer labels like Marc Jacobs, Zimmerman and Armani.

op shop tour melbourne

Have you ever marvelled at some people’s ability to find amazing bargains while effortlessly exuding style? The secret is knowing where to look in Melbourne’s playground of op shops to find unique pieces and incredible deals.

Renowned for its vibrant culture and fashion-forward atmosphere, Melbourne is a haven for vintage and pre-loved enthusiasts. The city boasts a multitude of hidden gems in the form of op shops and vintage stores, just waiting to be explored. However, we understand that sifting through endless racks in search of treasure can be a time-consuming task.

That’s why we’ve done the legwork for you, curating a comprehensive list of 8, absolute best preloved stores that Melbourne has to offer. Prepare to immerse yourself in a world where unique fashion finds and irresistible deals collide.

Hunter gatherer.

Hunter Gatherer is well-known for its incredible curation of the Brotherhood of St Lawrence’s clothing donations. The finest items donated to the Brotherhood’s 27 Melbourne stores are hand selected and transferred to Hunter Gatherer to offer an unparalleled collection of pre-loved goods. You’ll find fashion, books, records, accessories and more all under the one roof.

Hunter Gatherer – 274 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

Lost and Found

You’ll find a great variety of vintage goods within the four walls of Lost and Founds huge warehouse including fashion, furniture, lighting, art, vinyl, books and bric-a-brac. As long as it’s collectable and vintage you’ll find it here daily from 11am – 5pm. Ensure you dedicate time to this location as the sheer size of the place means you need time on your side to get through it all.

Lost and Found – 288 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

Posh Opp Shoppe

Posh Opp Shoppe is famous for offering a wide selection of designer labels and high-quality furniture but also has a range of everyday apparel, jewellery, manchester, art, kitchenware, crockery, toys, electrical equipment, vintage objects you get the idea, the list goes on. Your purchases go towards a great cause with all funds raised helping children living with disabilities.

Posh Opp Shoppe – 484 Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick

Sacred Heart Mission

Sacred Heart Mission is the golden nuggets of op shops. The immaculate window displays make vintage bargain hunters as excited as a child at the Myer Christmas windows. The sociable staff are renowned for setting up displays, made of clusters of second-hand goods, that put retailers’ visual merchandisers to shame. Filled with notably incredible leatherwear, shoes and dresses, these two are hard to beat on the op shop front.

Sacred Heart Mission – 1/486 Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick

87 Grey Street, St Kilda

Toorak Opportunity Shop

We know. Toorak is the LAST place you’d expect to find an amazing op shop. This one’s here to prove all the skeptics wrong. The Toorak Opportunity Shop hosts high quality brands, which does mean your note that the prices are a little higher than other op shops. So why are we recommending it then? The quality, care and preservation of the items is almost incomparable. You can pick up a seemingly untouched evening dress or men’s suit, for about $20 – $50.

Toorak Opportunity Shop – 1A Carters Avenue, Toorak

As an area, Fitzroy is an idol when it comes to op shopping. We wouldn’t expect anything less from the suburb than to have one of Melbourne’s most monstrous op shops. With stock to please hipsters, grandmas and everyone in between, this op shop is a relieving one on Smith Street, which is otherwise made up of pricey vintage stores.

Salvos – 427 Smith St, Fitzroy

Vinnies, Hampton

We don’t know whether it’s a Hampton thing, but this Vinnies is absolutely packed with oodles of designer clothes. The store is charming and clean, yet still overflowing with bargains. It’s a hard place to leave and sometimes harder remembering that it’s actually an op shop!

Vinnies, Hampton – 501 Hampton Street, Hampton

Chapel St Bazaar

Chapel St Bazaar is a proud frontrunner of Melbourne’s vintage fashion scene and does an honourable job of competing with Chapel Street’s abundance of retailers. The bazaar is broken up into individual compartments, filled with glassware, crockery, old telephones, lamps, dolls, record players, cameras– you name it! The jewellery is especially great here, too.

Chapel St Bazaar – 217 Chapel Street, Prahran

The Best Op Shops in Melbourne

Posted by Stacey Tran | Jul 31, 2022 | Shopping |

If you’re looking for the best op shops in Melbourne, there’s a whole host to choose from. From the Sacred Heart Mission to the Storehouse Thrift and even the Chapel Street Bazaar, there are many options to choose from.

Sacred Heart Mission

Op shops are a great way to score some deals and support your local charity. The Sacred Heart Mission Op Shop in Fitzroy, Australia, is an op-shop worth checking out. You can find it on Brunswick Street, opposite BlackCat Gallery.

Aside from the op-shop, Sacred Heart Mission also runs an online store, where they stock a variety of retro homewares, luxurious items and old gaming consoles. If you want to donate to a good cause, donating to op shops in Melbourne is a worthwhile venture.

There are plenty of Melbourne op shops, but only a handful remain open. Many of them have closed due to the current restrictions on op shop donations. Luckily, the Sacred Heart Mission Op Shop has opened its doors to the public. They accept donations of household goods, as well as furniture.

In honor of National Op Shop Week, the Sacred Heart Mission is holding a sale. For every item you purchase, $4 will fund a nutritious meal for someone in need.

The Sacred Heart Mission Op Shop has a long history. It opened in a grand church hall over a century ago. The store features a range of quality formal wear, furniture, hats, oriental style fans and more.

Aside from its op shop, the Sacred Heart Mission has many other charitable programs, which include active sports and movies. It also provides a 24-hour registered nurse.

For example, it has launched an online op shop, which combines its eBay and Instagram stores.

Toorak Opportunity Shop

The Toorak Opportunity Shop in Melbourne is a unique op shop. In addition to selling pre-loved items, the store is a charitable outlet that donates to many community organisations.

In the past four years, the store has donated more than $11,000 to ACRATH, an organisation that helps people who are victims of human trafficking. Despite its small size, the shop offers a wide range of merchandise that is in great condition.

As well as clothing, the store sells items such as furniture, kitchen gadgets and more. Compared to other Melbourne op shops, the price is a little higher. However, the quality of the products is superior.

Another good reason to visit the Toorak Opportunity Shop is that it is run by volunteers. They make sure that every item is in top condition before it’s piled up on the racks.

Another good reason to visit this store is that they carry some of the most famous designer labels. Some of their stock is even dry cleaned. This means that the clothes are in excellent condition, and they’re also priced much cheaper than in other areas.

Another way that the store supports ACRATH is through its PeopleWorx program, which helps people find jobs. It’s also a great way to develop your retail skills.

Sacred Heart Mission thrift stores are some of the most popular second-hand businesses in Melbourne. Their shops sell a variety of items, including homewares, footwear, and leather products. These shops are also known for their discounts on antique items.

Chapel Street Bazaar

The Chapel Street Bazaar in Melbourne is a treasure trove of vintage and secondhand goods. It has over eighty stall holders selling their wares. These vendors have a passion for selling unique and unusual products. They have something for everyone.

This is one of the most popular shopping destinations in Melbourne. Not only does Chapel St Bazaar offer a wide variety of items, it also offers a great time. You can shop for all kinds of different items, such as vintage jewellery, biker jackets, military relics, toys, and even advertising memorabilia.

There are several good op shops in Chapel Street. Shag Vintage Shop is a favorite of vintage lovers. Here, you’ll find 80s sweaters, retro headwear, and colorful boots.

If you want to get the most bang for your buck, you should check out the Vintage Market. There are several shops here, all of which sell vintage collectibles.

If you’re looking for a new look for your wardrobe, you’ll be pleased to know that Shappere is also a popular store. This boutique features bright and bold shirts for men and women. In addition to their clothing lines, they also stock leather belts and colourful shirts.

MCM House has also caught the eye of fashion bloggers and designers alike. It has a very curated selection of homewares, fashion, and even outdoor furniture.

FinerRings is another local jeweller, which started as an online business. Their products are made from high quality materials such as gold, silver, and rose gold. Some of their wares have been featured in fashion magazines, and they’re a favourite among celebrities.

Hunter Gatherer

Hunter Gatherer is one of the best op shops in Melbourne. It’s located in the CBD and has an amazing selection of items. These include clothing, jewellery and homewares.

If you’re looking for second hand clothes, this is the place for you. The store has a wide variety of fashions and a good selection of preloved designer bags. They have several locations, including the CBD and Fitzroy.

Hunter Gatherer is also the place to go if you’re after quirky trinkets. They have a great selection of upcycled hats made from vintage fabrics. You can also purchase new clothing, as well as accessories.

The store is run by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, which is an organisation that helps disadvantaged and vulnerable people. This organization operates over 27 stores in Melbourne.

Hunter Gatherer is also known for their upcycled clothing. Their selection is a mix of vintage and contemporary. They have a great selection of men’s clothing, as well as women’s clothing.

Hunter Gatherer is an iconic store that has been in business for more than 80 years. Their Royal Arcade location is the longest standing of their many Melbourne stores.

The Hunter Gatherer op shop in the Royal Arcade is the place to go for vintage frocks, European-style leather shoes, and Swedish clogs. You can also find a curated collection of vintage, on-trend, and retro inspired clothing.

Hunter Gatherer also sells a wide range of other interesting products, from a large range of upcycled fashions to quirky trinkets. Buying used clothes can help prolong a garment’s life.

Storehouse Thrift

A Storehouse Thrift op shop in Melbourne is a unique store that is committed to supporting local community groups and organizations. The stores partner with like-minded businesses and organisations to offer a wide range of items.

Founded in 2006, Storehouse Thrift is a retail branch of Teen Challenge International Victoria. All of the profits are donated to the organisation, which aims to provide hope and treatment for drug and alcohol addicts.

This quirky thrift store has two locations in Fitzroy. It offers unusual items that are made from recycled materials and damaged donations. There is a seasonal trend section where you can find unique pieces that are only available during certain periods.

Another store that is well worth a visit is Shag. The store features eclectic, wacky, and incredibly blingy items. They sell a variety of secondhand fashion, including vintage clothing, shoes, and accessories. You’ll also find homewares, jewellery, and other funky trinkets.

Another store to look into is Retrostar Vintage Clothing. This is a Melbourne-based vintage store, which specialises in vintage clothes from the 1940s to the 1990s.

Another top-notch op shop in Melbourne is the Red Cross. Their Collingwood store has an impressive collection of designer labels and leather jackets. Among other things, they have an enormous selection of children’s clothes.

The St Vincent de Paul Society has over 100 op shops throughout Victoria. These stores are great for shopping for preloved fashion, books, and homewares.

Stop Staring Boutique

While there are many op shops in Melbourne, the Red Cross is the city’s premiere designer clothing destination. As well as clothing, the op shop also sells homewares and electrical goodies. Aside from a decent selection of high end fashion, there is an entire section devoted to brand new Gorman outfits. The store also boasts a sizeable festival wear section. It’s a great spot to pick up a fur coat for the winter weather on its way.

While you are at it, you should check out the Stop Staring boutique which sells a slew of high-end designer shoes, clothing, and accessories. They even have an impressive online store. Besides being a good place to score a bargain, it’s also a fun way to support a local business while making a socially conscious purchase. You can also participate in their nifty op shop challenge.

Other op shops you might want to look into include Mio Tesoro, Brotherhood of St. Laurence, and Posh Opp. Shops like these are great places to find designer items at discounted prices. This particular establishment also makes a surprisingly impressive selection of quality vintage items.

Buying second hand is a good way to extend the life of your wardrobe while keeping your wallet happy. Not to mention, it’s a great way to support your community. Whether it’s through a reputable secondhand retailer or a not-for-profit op shop, you’ll be sure to have a great time while doing your part for the environment.
