Detailed Test Results

Consumer Reports’ car seat crash test, developed in 2014, provides comparative performance information on which car seats could provide an additional margin of safety.  All child seats sold in the United States are required to meet government safety standards, and Consumer Reports’ tests are not designed to test compliance with those standards.  Rather, we evaluate the seats’ performance under conditions designed by our experts to simulate certain crash scenarios, and rate them on a scale ranging from “basic” to “best.”  The test conditions have been carefully designed to simulate the interior environment and forces encountered during a crash in contemporary vehicles. For more information on our crash test protocol,  please click here .

The Evenflo Maestro Sport is part of the Car Seats test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Harnessed Car Seats models like the Maestro Sport are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

evenflo maestro travel car seat

As we already know, I’ll always jump at the opportunity to test an Evenflo product. So naturally, I was given the Evenflo Maestro and excitedly tested it.

First thing I noticed was how lightweight the booster was. It weighs only 9.6 pounds and can be used on an airplane, which I did. It latched easily to my vehicle and the LATCH system can be used up to 50-pounds.

Using the harness and belt options were simple. They seemed secure enough to keep my child safe. The only issue I had was that the clips would seem buckled, but they actually weren’t.

I had to pull on them to make sure they were secure. It also seemed a little too easy for my child to unbuckle on their own. However, if I needed to adjust their straps, I simply pulled the tab with one hand.

The cushioning was nice and it was easy to remove for cleaning. I liked how spacious the cup holders were. They fit my child’s sippy cup and small snacks securely.

Given the price, great safety ratings, and ease of use, I highly recommend this booster seat even though the back doesn’t detach. It’s still a great product.

Price Comparison

Evenflo Maestro Sport Harness Booster Car Seat - Granite

What We Like

  • Versatile and grow with children. The seat can be used either as a five-point harness or a traditional seat booster.
  • Lightweight and compact. The seat weighs just 9.6 pounds and measures 19 inches wide.
  • Perfect for air travel. The seat is FAA approved (when used with the 5-point harness) with a certification on the side of the seat.
  • Excellent return policy. Evenflo promises a 30-day return policy regardless of the retailer and a 90-day warranty.
  • Easy Cleaning. The seat fabric cover can be machine washed.
  • Evenflo tests their seats to withstand two times more than the national safety standard. The red tether also reminds parents to utilize this feature during installation.
  • LATCH System. The LATCH can be used up to 50 pounds.

What We Don’t Like

  • Cupholders . The cups are half plastic cups, half elastic, which doesn’t always hold the child’s drink in place.
  • Difficult to adjust strap fit. A good number of parents report having difficulty adjusting the straps. Some parents report difficulty buckling and unbuckling the clips, too.
  • Highback Booster only. This seat can only be used as a highback booster. The top does not detach from the bottom booster portion.

Evenflo Maestro

Evenflo Maestro Booster Expiration Information

Each Evenflo seat has the expiration date clearly attached to the car seat. The Maestro Booster expires six years after its manufacture date.

Parents should be sure to always check their car seat’s expiration date that is physically attached to the seat. Each seat comes with different specifications, so families should be sure about the expiration dates of their seats.

Evenflo Maestro Safety Ratings

The ratings are in and parents can be confident in the safety of this seat.

According to Evenflo, the seat has sides impact tested as well as strict company safety requirements. The seat meets or exceeds all applicable federal safety standards. The seat has been designed two times the federal crash test standard. Evenflo tests its seats at high and low temperatures.

  • The seat meets FMVSS 213 and 302, plus Canada’s CMVSS 302 and 313.
  • The LATCH feature on this booster, unlike others of its kind, can be used for a child up to 50 pounds.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), “all car seats must meet Federal Safety Standards and strict performance standards.” NHTSA does rate car seats on how easy it is to use the seat safely. The Evenflo Maestro scores 3 stars, which means the seat is average for ease of use compared to other seats of its kind.

Installing the Evenflo Maestro Booster Seat with LATCH System

The LATCH is a system of lower anchors and tethers for children’s seats. Vehicles manufactured after September 1st, 2002, are required to include LATCH capabilities to make car seat installations easier and safer.

Using the LATCH system allows parents to forgo the seatbelt run through the back opening of the seat. The LATCH system on Maestro Booster can be used until a child is 50 pounds, which means it can be used in the belt-positioning booster mode. This is somewhat rare.

You can find a step-by-step guide on how to install the seat using the LATCH system in your manual. Essentially, you’ll want to attach the seat to the lower anchor bars and secure the tether.

Installing the Evenflo Maestro Booster Seat with a Seat Belt

If your vehicle does not have a LATCH system, or you want a tighter seat fit, you can achieve a more secure install using the seat belt method, install using the seat belt installation steps outlined in your manual.

It’s important to understand your vehicle’s type of seat belt and be sure that it’s securely installed into the booster seat. Don’t forget to always tether the seat, even when using the seat belt installation method and tighten the seat by putting all your weight on the booster and pulling the seat belt.

Fitting Your Child in the Maestro Booster

One of the most recurring pieces of feedback from customers about the Evenflo Maestro Booster is about tightening the seat straps properly. Good Egg Car Safety says straps should be “snug to your child’s body – the straps should be tight enough that you can just slip two fingers flat between your child’s body and their collar bones.”

Oftentimes, parents do not tighten when putting their child in the seat each time. It’s recommended that every time a child is buckled in that the straps are properly fitted to the child. Since some customers report that the Evenflo Maestro’s five-point harness straps can be difficult to tighten and adjust, so be sure to carefully review the manual.

Evenflo Maestro Recall and Solution

The following models used a harness crotch buckle which became difficult to unbuckle over time due to sticky substances (food and drinks). This made it more difficult for families to unbuckle and remove children from the vehicle. If the buckle is functioning normally, there is no risk.

Affected Models:

  • The United States 310 manufactured 8/22/2011-10/17/2013
  • Canada 310 manufactured 10/3/2011-10/17/2013

Solution: Evenflo provided consumers seats with a free kit to replace buckles. Parents and families can order a replacement kit by calling 1-800-490-7591.

Cleaning the Evenflo Maestro Booster Seat

The Maestro seat covers are machine washable and can be easily cared for with a regular laundry routine. Please follow these steps:

  • Wipe down permanent fixtures. all plastic and metal parts clean with mild soap and water and dry with a cloth.
  • Clean the harness and buckles . Use the same method you cleaned the plastic and metal parts to clean the harness and buckles. Do not submerge the harness and buckles in water. Allow the straps to air dry.
  • Washing the cover . You can wash the fabric seat pad on the delicate cycle on your machine.
  • Drying Instructions. Tumble dry on low heat for 10-15 minutes.

Customer Reviews

  • It’s lightweight and versatile. Parents return to this seat again and again for its lightweight versatility.
  • Children can grow with the seat. Many families keep this seat for years and use it for children as they grow-up.
  • Keeps children safe in accidents. One mother reported this seat didn’t budget in a rollover accident.
  • Great for flying with toddlers. Toddlers will fly safely in this seat and parents won’t lose an arm schlepping this lightweight seat through the airport.
  • Difficult strap adjustment. Customers also report clips can seem buckled, but sometimes are not buckled.
  • Low-quality fabric. Upon further research, it sounds like the blue fabric option for the Maestro might be the root of the fabric issues reported in negative reviews. One customer recommended purchasing a color other than blue.

evenflo maestro travel car seat

For a combination booster seat, the Evenflo Maestro isn’t particularly glamorous, but it has a lot of nice features that make it a real contender in the booster seat market. It comes in four color combinations – Wesley ( gray/red ), Taylor ( gray/pink ), Easley ( dark gray/light gray block pattern ) and Thunder ( gray/bright blue ).

It’s designed to hold your child from the time they’ve grown out of their rear-facing seat until they’re ready to ride without a safety seat. You should be able to get quite a few years out of it. However, the height limits aren’t as generous as they could be.

Compared to similar seats from other brands, the Evenflo Maestro is very budget-friendly at around $70 . It comes with a 90-Day limited warranty from date of purchase and has a 6-year expiration date.

Key Features of the Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat

  • Rated Best Bet by IIHS in 2013
  • 4 harness slot positions
  • 2 crotch buckle positions
  • Can be used with LATCH up to 50 pounds (even in booster mode)
  • Triple layered seat cover
  • Machine washable & dryable seat cover
  • Two integrated cup holders
  • Built-in harness & LATCH storage
  • Lightweight with narrow profile
  • Made in the USA

Key Features of the Evenflo Maestro

Though the minimum age listed in the product description for use as a harnessed seat is 2 years old, the AAP now recommends children ride rear-facing for as long as possible . Therefore, we recommend waiting until your child has fully outgrown either the height or weight of their rear-facing seat before you switch to this one.

What are the child size limits of the Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat?

Child Size Limits

  • Harnessed booster weight range: 22 – 65 pounds
  • Harnessed booster height range: 28 – 50 inches
  • Belt-positioning booster weight range: 40 – 110 pounds
  • Belt-positioning booster height range: 43 – 57 inches
  • Harness slots at 12, 14, 16 & 18 inches
  • Crotch buckle slots at 5 & 7 inches
  • Belt guide slot at 19 inches

The main gripe with sizing on this seat is that there’s only one belt guide position. The headrest is not adjustable. This means that when your child outgrows the harness at its max of 18 inches, there’s not a lot of room for growth when using it with the seat belt.

For kids who are tall for their age, this seat won’t last long as a booster. It’s not likely to fit to the minimum recommended age of 8 for riding in a booster. But it will probably last until age 6 or 7.

Due to the narrow profile of the seat (19 inches wide), the harness straps can also have a narrow fit, which rubbed some children’s necks.

Note: This seat does NOT convert into a backless booster.

How big is the Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat, and will it fit in your vehicle?

Maestro Sizes

This is probably the Maestro’s biggest strong point. At only 19 inches wide, it fits easily in any position in the backseat. It helps that the cupholders are positioned straight off the arm rests instead of flared out as they do in some models.

Several parents noted it fit great in vehicles from vans to mini coupes. Many were able to fit 3 seats across (including a mix of boosters/rear-facing) even in small vehicles so long as none of the other seats were overly bulky.

The narrow profile also makes it an ideal seat for airline travel in harnessed mode. Several customers reported it fit well in coach class seating on various airlines. Plus at only 12 pounds, it’s not a huge burden to carry through the airport.

How safe is the Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat?

Like all Evenflo car seats, the Maestro has been tested at 2X the federal crash test standard , which includes tests for side impact, structural integrity, flammability, and temperature changes. The LATCH feature on this seat can be used until your child is 50 pounds, which means it can be used in the belt-positioning booster mode. This is somewhat rare.

Evenflo Maestro Safety

Having the LATCH connection also keeps the seat secured when your child isn’t in it, which prevents the seat from being a projectile in a crash. When you’re not using LATCH, we recommend keeping the seat belt buckled across it when your child’s not in it.

Possible flaws: Some parents had issues evenly tightening the harness straps and getting the seat installed tightly enough. Uninstalling the LATCH also proved very difficult for some.

You’ll want to pay attention to your child’s growth when using this seat. Since the height limits are so low, keep your manual handy and measure your child’s height often to make sure he hasn’t already outgrown each mode.

On a great note, we love hearing real customer testimonials about crash performance, as that is proof that a car seat can do its intended job. One such experience involved a complete rollover in a full-sized van. Four children were riding in Evenflo Maestro seats. The seats never budged. There were no major injuries beyond some scrapes from broken glass, etc.

Note: There are a couple recalls still in effect for older seats manufactured from Nov. 24, 2009 – April 10, 2010 and August 22, 2011 to October 17, 2013 for replacement reinforcement plates and crotch buckles. It’s doubtful you’ll receive a seat manufactured during that time, but visit the current recall page at NHTSA for more information. Or call Evenflo at 1-800-490-7591.

How easy is it to install and use the Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat?

This is where this seat falls short a bit. Once you’ve gotten it in there nice and tight, it’s good to go. It’s getting it tight and then uninstalling the LATCH that could pose a challenge.

Other challenges – the headrest isn’t adjustable and the harness straps must be rethreaded when moving them to new slots. Some parents also reported that the seat cover hooks come off easily and can scratch a child’s legs.

Some good points – the low profile of the seat makes it easy for toddlers to climb in and out without assistance. The upfront harness adjustment is a favorite feature for parents because you can tighten or loosen the harness quickly with one hand. Elastic on the cupholders accommodates a wide range of cup sizes.

Optional Accessories

Try one of these add-ons for a comfier, more enjoyable trip.

Best Car Seat Hub’s Final Verdict

pros

  • Very affordable
  • Good pillow headrest
  • 2 cup holders that don’t increase width
  • 3 comfy layers on cover
  • Machine washable & dryable cover
  • Fits well in any position of back seat
  • Allows for 3 car seat configuration
  • Built in LATCH and harness storage
  • Made in USA

cons

  • Harness straps can rub neck
  • Height range isn’t high enough for booster mode
  • Hard to evenly adjust harness tightness
  • LATCH is difficult to uninstall
  • Headrest not adjustable
  • Harness must be rethreaded to adjust height
  • Seat cover hooks may come loose

Final Thoughts

For a budget booster seat, the Evenflo Maestro is a really good option for some families. If you’re on a tight budget, have multiple car seats to fit in your car, or fly often, you’ll want to consider this seat. It would also make a great backup seat for a babysitter or grandparents.

Evenflo Maestro - Booster

However, if you can spend a bit more and want a good everyday seat that you can take in and out of the car as needed, you might want to look elsewhere. Difficulty with unhooking the LATCH straps, harness straps that can irritate the neck and that are difficult to tighten evenly could make everyday use more hassle than help.

You usually get what you pay for, and that stands in this case. We have no doubts that this can be a very safe seat when installed and used correctly. But if you’re looking for something super comfortable with quick and easy operation, you’ll probably need to spend a little more.

We’ve been happy with our Maestro. Works well for our 2 year old granddaughter.

Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat: Easy to Install, Highly Portable, and Light on the Wallet

May 20, 2021 by Peter Leave a Comment

Evenflo Maestro Sport Harness Booster Car Seat, Crestone Peaks

Please click image for more info

The forward-facing, 2-in-1 Evenflo Maestro offers 5-point harness and belt-positioning booster modes, and is exceptionally straightforward to install and convert from one setting to the other.

This budget-friendly model is made for the long haul, as it can accommodate a child from around two years of age up to around five or six years. Its ease of installation, combined with its light weight, make it well suited for switching regularly among cars and for air travel.

As for safety, it meets or exceeds government standards regarding side impact protection and structural integrity.

Overview of  Evenflo Maestro Booster Car Seat

Evenflo Maestro Sport Harness Booster Car Seat, Crestone Peaks

Thanks to the 5-point harness and belt-positioning booster settings offered by the Evenflo Maestro, it can serve your child for many years of forward-facing use. When in harness mode, this seat is for children ages two and older, who are between 28 and 50 inches in height and who weigh between 22 and 50 pounds. When in the seat belt booster mode, it’s suitable for kids ages four and up, who are 44 to 57 inches tall and who weigh from 40 to 110 pounds.

This seat can be installed using its LATCH connectors or your vehicle’s seat belt, and you’ll likely find either of the options relatively quick and simple. It’s equipped with a highly visible red tether anchor casing, and the buckle pockets on select models help keep the harness out of the way when you’re getting your child in and out of the seat.

The Maestro comes with two snap-in cup holders, so your little one conveniently can always have a drink and a snack at hand during car rides. Its fabric cover can be removed and placed in the washer and dryer, making it a cinch to deep clean and to remove spills and stains.

Here is how the Evenflo Maestro has been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration when it comes to things like safety, usability, and clarity of instructions:

  • Labels : 1/5 stars because, in part, the labels do not indicate how to set up the LATCH attachments and tether strap.
  • Instructions : 3/5 stars because the lap belt-only installation process is not detailed in the owner’s manual.
  • Securing the child : 3/5 stars because, in part, the harness needs to be rethreaded when you’re adjusting the height for your child’s growth.
  • Installation features : 4/5 stars because the LATCH connectors might need to be twisted to remove them from your vehicle’s LATCH anchors.
  • Overall ease of use : 3/5 stars
  • Does this model have:
  • LATCH-enabled connectors? Yes
  • A 5-point harness? Yes
  • The Evenflo Maestro lasts for 6 years.
  • Where to find expiration date on Evenflo Maestro? You can find the expiration date by looking at the sticker on the back of the seat's shell.

The Evenflo Maestro and the Graco Atlas 65 are highly similar, forward-facing boosters that can give your child several years of use, thanks to harness and high-back belt-positioning modes. As far as weight limits, the Maestro can accommodate 10 more total pounds than the Atlas, so you might get a bit more use out of it. The Graco model, however, has an expiration date of seven years, whereas the Evenflo is only usable for six. Both are budget-friendly, having very similar price-points.

The Atlas does offer a couple of significant conveniences that the Maestro does not: The Atlas is reclinable, whereas the Maestro remains in an upright position. This can make the Atlas significantly more comfortable during nap times. The Atlas also does not need to be re-threaded every time your child has grown and you want to adjust the height. Instead, the Maestro model requires re-threading for adjustments. Ultimately, both models meet or exceed government safety standards, both provide a lot of bang for your buck, and both can see your child through several years of forward-facing car rides.

Peter Selmeczy

Growing up I was a carefree male going about life like there was no tomorrow. Naturally, I ‘grew’ up, settled down and started a family.

Peter Selmeczy

Going from an independent carefree male to a family man was somewhat of a U-turn and required a lot of learning. Luckily for me, my wife works in education and has always been the shining light always ahead of me on all factors kids related.

Initially, my wife didn’t have a driving license (luckily this has now changed and it does make life easier), and all things car related were my task. Child locks were the obvious starting point which lead me down a rabbit hole.

So far we have personally tested dozens of convertible car seats and have owned five despite neither of our kids having reached the age of 5! Simply put, a car seat can be great on paper, work great on trying out but can fail on you in real life.

This is why I have put together this website – to help inform and educate you!

Of course, as I mentioned above, at the end of the day your experience will be the best test so I’d love to hear your experiences and feedback in the comments.

To contact me personally, please do so through my  contact page .

I look forward to hearing from you!

P.S. If you click a link on my site and end up buying a car seat on Amazon, I’ll get paid a small commission (or as the Amazon lawyers put it: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases”)

Evenflo Maestro Sport Review – 9 Reason to Get The Lightest Harnessed Booster Seat

Evenflo Maestro Sport

Evenflo Maestro Sport

Face front only.

  • Weight Limit (lb): 22-50 (FF); 40-110 (Booster)
  • Height Limit: 50" ( FF); 57" (Booster
  • Age Limit: 2-8 Years or older

The Evenflo Maestro Sport has all the makings of a good combination car seat. It’s fairly affordable, exceptionally well-built, and has a super high booster weight limit. Plus, it sports an array of outstanding features, including adjustable harness straps and two built-in cup holders for comfort and convenience. Unfortunately, though, the lower booster seat’s harness weight limit holds it back. Even an upgraded but still low 50-pound weight limit won’t last long as years as other car seats of 65 pounds. Having said that, for any parents on the hunt for an Evenflo combination car seat, the Maestro Sport should be on your list. All in all, if you’re shopping for your first harnessed booster and harness weight limit isn’t your main focus, the Evenflo Maestro Sport is a worthy contender.

1. Pros and Cons

  • 110 booster weight limit
  • 50-inch harness height limit
  • Affordable price
  • Two cup holders
  • 50 lbs harness weight limit
  • Limited recline options
  • Fewer headrest positons

2. Who Is It Best For?

Will the evenflo maestro sport be a good fit for your child and family.

The Evenflo Maestro Sport is a kind of all-rounder that’ll suit any parents unbothered by the booster weight limit. It’s a good choice for those shopping for the last booster seat that last good years after their kids outgrow the infant car seats ; who want a step up from a budget model but don’t want to drop $300 on a top-performing model like the Britax Grow with You ClickTight or the Chicco MyFit .

While it has a somewhat outdated rethread harness system and an under-standard 50-pound harness weight limit, you can’t fault its overall weight and height limit for long-lasting (110 lbs/ 57″). It is as competitive as any one of the best car seats with a 5-point harness 100-120 pounds .

Sadly, though, that’s all the Evenflo Maestro Sport really has going for it, and this shows when you look at its performance figures.

I’m reluctant to recommend it to any parent who prefers a no-rethread adjustable headrest and harness system or multiple harness strap slots, simply because the manufacturer does not intend to have these comfort extras in comparison to more expensive models that provide optimal protection and max comfort.

3. Value for Money

Is the price tag worth it.

With the Maestro Sport, you’re essentially paying for its size limit. The 110-pound and 57-inch overall weight and height limits and a slightly higher 50-inch height limit for the 5-point harness are all premium-price features, or if you add the origin of the country into consideration as your own needs. But when you look at its overall performance for safety and comfort, it’s lacking compared to similarly-priced models.

For these reasons, there are better value combination car seats to choose from, In a nutshell, it all comes down to what you’re looking for. If it’s an average harness weight limit, no-rethread harness and headrest adjustment, and recline positions, avoid the Evenflo Maestro Sport. But if it’s long-lasting as the last car seat you’ll need then the Maestro Sport is your guy.

  • Best combination car seats
  • Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 car seat
  • Graco Nautilus 65 LX harnessed booster

Evenflo Maestro Sport Dimensions and Width

The Evenflo Maestro Sport measures as follows:

  • Width: 19 inches
  • Depth: 17 inches
  • Height: 27.5 inches

It’s obvious that this car seat is not the most compact option on the market, but it fits well in most vehicles without taking up too much space. The forward-facing only position adds points to this.

The 19-inch width is average for a combination car seat, making it fit multiple car seats in the back seat of a large-size vehicle. It’s neither too wide nor narrow. At least, it’s 0.5 inches wider than our best recommendations of narrow car seats within 18.5 inches . This width is not suitable to do 3 across in the same row if you have to install three car seats. The 17.5-inch of Chicco MyFit may be possible to achieve that.

The headrest is not adjustable, so it’s supposed that the maximum height of the Evenflo Maestro Sport is 27.5 inches. That’s very standard for a toddler car seat for good years of use.

  • Best car seats to fit three across
  • 16.75-inch wide Graco SlimFit3 LX
  • 17-inch Diono Radian 3R
  • 17-inch Diono Radian 3RXT
  • 17-inch Diono Radian 3QXT

Portability

The Evenflo Maestro Sport weighs approximately 9.6 pounds. That’s much lighter than the majority of car seats on the market, like the Chicco MyFit (25 pounds) and Britax Grow with You ClickTight (25 pounds), even beating the lightweight models like the KidsEmbrace SpiderMan (15 pounds).

The Maestro Sport’s weight is manageable for most parents to carry and install in their vehicle. Its lightweight design can make it easier to transfer the car seat between vehicles or for traveling with the car seat.

However, the car seat’s weight is not the only factor that determines its portability rating. The size and shape of the car seat, as well as its compatibility with different vehicles and installation methods, can also affect its ease of use and portability. It gives a score, the Maestro Sport may earn an 8 out of 10, for its 9.6-pound lightweight weight.

If you travel a lot with a kid, pick up a perfect one from our recommendations on:

  • Foldable car seats for travel
  • Portable car seats with lightweight or folding design
  • Best lightweight convertible car seat for air travel
  • The only travel car seat with wheels

Cup Holder - Two

The Evenflo Maestro Sport is a harnessed booster seat with cup holders. It has two built-in cup holders that are located on either side of the car seat. They are large and deep to securely hold drinks and snacks, helping to keep your child’s items within reach during trips.

The cup holders have a simple yet effective design. They are shaped to fit a variety of cup sizes, making them versatile and easy to use.

Sadly, though, they are not removable, making it a bit more difficult to clean them because you need to dot clean them while it’s installed in the car seat.

Color option

The Evenflo Maestro Sport harness booster car seat is available in five color options on its official website. They are

  • Granite Gray
  • Whitney Purple
  • Palisade Blue
  • Crestone Peaks
  • Aspen Skies Gray

The specific colors and availability may vary depending on the retailer. For example, there are only the first four colors available on Amazon. The two Gray colors are slightly different.

These color options are designed to be gender-neutral, with options that can work well for both boys and girls. If you do want to distinguish any one of them for toddler girls, we recommend the Whitney Purple and Crestone Peaks. Both have more purple and yellow tones, which could be more traditionally associated with girls. However, ultimately, the color choice is up to the personal preference of the parent and child.

  • Best pink car seats for girls

Headrest and Harness - 4 Positions

The Evenflo Maestro Sport car seat has a 5-point harness system with four harness strap slots to accommodate growing children. The harness straps can be adjusted using the front harness adjuster, which allows parents to quickly and easily tighten or loosen the harness straps to ensure a secure and comfortable fit for their child.

It’s a pity that the headrest is not adjustable and there are two slots in the headrest section.

Head pillow

The Evenflo Maestro Sport comes equipped with a head pillow that can be used for smaller toddlers. Younger children may not control their head well, especially when they’re sleeping, so the head pillow is good to keep their head in a comfortable fit.

It’s removable and can be removed when your kid grows bigger. You should do this because there are two harness strap slots behind the head pillow that are designed for big kids to use the 5-point harness.

The Evenflo Maestro Sport car seat is made of high-quality materials that are designed to provide durability and comfort. The seat cover is made of a soft, breathable fabric that is easy to remove and machine washable for easy maintenance. The car seat also features a foam-lined seat and headrest, which provides additional comfort and cushioning for children during long car rides.

The padding on the Evenflo Maestro Sport car seat is thick enough to provide adequate support and cushioning for children, but not so thick that it interferes with the proper positioning of the harness straps or chest clip. The foam padding is strategically placed throughout the seat and headrest to help absorb and distribute crash forces in the event of an accident, which can help to reduce the risk of injury to children.

5. Evenflo Maestro Sport Safety Ratings

Does evenflo maestro sport pass the crash tests.

The Evenflo Maestro Sport is safe to use and has undergone rigorous crash testing to ensure its effectiveness for protection. It meets or exceeds all applicable federal safety standards (i.e. FMVSS 213) and is tested for side-impact and structural integrity at energy levels approximately twice the federal crash test standard.

In addition to meeting federal safety standards, this car seat has also been tested and certified by the independent organization, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It has been given a “Best Bet Booster” rating by the IIHS, indicating that it provides a good fit for most vehicles and can effectively protect children in crashes.

It features an energy-absorbing foam liner and comes equipped with a five-point harness system to help keep children secure and protected in the event of an accident.

Side Impact Protection

The Evenflo Maestro Sport has side-impact protection (SIP) to help protect children from potential injuries in the event of a side-impact collision.

By including energy-absorbing foam layers on the car seat’s headrest and seat cushion, the SIP system can provide enhanced protection to the child’s head and torso. Plus, it helps absorb and dissipate the force of an impact away from the child’s body in case a collision happens.

In addition to its SIP system, the Evenflo Maestro Sport car seat also features a five-point harness system , which is positioned to offer optimal protection for younger toddlers as small as 22 pounds (that’s the minimum weight requirement to use this car seat).

6. Performance

Weight and height limits.

The Evenflo Maestro Sport is able to accommodate children weighing between 22 and 110 pounds before they reach the top 57 inches height limit. This car seat can be used in two stages, so we list the weight and height limits for each stage:

Forward-facing harness: 22-50 lbs/ 28-50″ . This combination is rare. As far as I know, only Maestro Sport and Chase LX (40 lbs/ 50″) have a very low weight limit with a relatively high height limit compared to the majority of the car seats with a 5-point harness (65 lbs/ 49″).

In most cases, kids usually reach the height limit first before the weight limit. But for these two Evenflo models, it’s probably the situation that children outgrow the 40-pound or 50-pound weight limit before they grow to reach the 50-inch height limit.

Belt-positioning booster: 40-110 lbs/ 44-57″. In this mode, the car seat uses the vehicle’s seat belt to secure the child in the seat, with the car seat providing additional support and positioning. The 110-lb is a bit greater than the 100-pound of most car seats, including some great all-in-one car seats like the Graco SlimFit3 LX .

Stage / Modes - 2nd and 3rd

As a combination car seat, the Evenflo Maestro Sport has two stages of use – a forward-facing harness and a belt-positioning booster.

We have talked about the weight and height limits for each stage in the above section. Here we want you to know about the pro tips to make full use of these two car seat stage s to ride your kids safely and comfortably.

The car seat uses a five-point harness system to secure the child. The harness has multiple height positions to accommodate growing children and has an upfront adjustment system for easy tightening and loosening. The car seat also features a crotch strap buckle that can be adjusted to two positions to ensure a proper fit.

Belt-positioning booster is the second stage of use for the Evenflo Maestro Sport. In this mode, the car seat uses the vehicle’s seat belt to secure the child in the seat, with the car seat providing additional support and positioning – mainly for raising the kids up to better fit with the vehicle seat belt.

The only pity is that the Maestro Sport does not transition from a high-back booster to a backless one. As your kids grow bigger, they may prefer this mode to be adult-like in the car seat. However, this does not affect its great performance to be the last car seat, thanks to its high 110 lbs/ 57″ capacity.

  • Best 2-in-1 convertible car seats
  • Best 3-in-1 car seats
  • Best 4-in-1 car seats
  • Best all-in-one car seats

From its weight and height limits, we know that the Evenflo Maestro Sport is suited to children from around 2 years old up to around 8 years old .

It lacks a rear-facing mode, making it good for toddlers at least 1 year or older. According to the instructions in the car seat manual, the manufacturer recommends using it for a kid who is 2 years or older.

That’s the best practice for using a forward-facing-only harnessed booster. The 50 lbs/ 50″ top size limit for the 5-point harness means that the Maestro Sport is good for kids around 4 or 5 years old in this mode.

Then you can use it in the second mode – booster. Like all booster seats or car seats that can be used in booster mode, the Maestro Sport has clear minimum requirements on age and weight. Kids should be at least 4 years old or 40 pounds or more to start the booster mode.

The 110 lbs/ 57″ top size limit for booster means that a kid can use the Maestro Sport on the 8th birthday. Why do we mention the 8th birthday? Because it’s the minimum age requirement to stop using a car seat in most US states upon the car seat laws .

Is Evenflo Maestro SportFAA approved for use on a plane?

The Evenflo Maestro Sport is FAA approved for use on a plane in the 5-point harness mode. It has the aircraft label on the sticker and you’ll find the instructions in the car seat manual.

It’s lightweight, making it easy to carry. But it’s not slim, and may not fit well in the airplane seat, especially the narrowest window seat.

So before bringing the Evenflo Maestro Sport car seat on a plane, parents should check with the airline to ensure that the car seat can be used on their flight. Some airlines require advance notice or approval for car seat use on planes.

How long is Evenflo Maestro Sport harness booster car seat good for

Over time, the materials and components of a car seat can degrade or become weakened, which can impact the seat’s ability to protect a child in a crash. Plus, new safety standards and technologies may be developed over time that makes newer car seats safer than older ones. So every car seat has an expiration date, including the Evenflo Maestro Sport.

It has an expiration date of 8 years from the date of manufacture.

It’s important to note that car seats should not be used after they have been involved in a moderate to severe crash, even if there is no visible damage. In a crash, the forces involved can cause damage to the car seat that may not be visible but can impact its ability to protect a child in a subsequent crash.

  • When do Evenflo car seats expire
  • When and where to find the car seat expiration date

The Evenflo provides a 90-day limited warranty for the Maestro Sport harness booster car seat, starting from the date of original purchase. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service.

That’s the shortest among the car seats. The majority of the car seat brands, like Britax , Graco , Safety 1st , and Chicco offer a limited one-year warranty for their products. Diono and Doona do even better, both provide an extended 36-month warranty as long as you register the car seat.

7. Evenflo Maestro Sport Harness Booster Installation

Before starting to install the car seat, you may where to put it. The center of the back seat is probably the safest position to install a car seat .

If possible, install the car seat on that spot. If that seat is not applicable for a proper installation, for example lacking a shoulder belt, either seat on the side would be safe. You may choose any of them based on your family’s and kid’s needs.

Evenflo Maestro Sport Forward-facing Installation

Install using vehicle seat belt or latch.

Follow the step-by-step guide in the Evenflo Maestro Sport car seat manual to achieve a proper installation for this car seat. You can choose to install it using the vehicle seat belt or LATCH.

If choosing the LATCH, keep this tip in mind:

DO NOT install this child restraint with the vehicle seat belts AND LATCH (Your vehicle owner’s manual may refer to this system as ISOFIX, Universal Anchorage System (UAS), or Lower Universal Anchorage System.)

Evenflo Maestro Sport Booster Installation

When using this combination car seat in booster mode, it does not require many installations. The most important part is to secure your kid with a lap/shoulder belt system. If the seating spot to install the car seat does not have shoulder belt, it’s not okay to install the Maestro Sport in that place, and you’d better move it to another spot.

Convert Evenflo Maestro Sport into Booster

1. Loosen harness. Press the harness release button while pulling outward on the harness straps, as shown. Disconnect the chest clip.

2. Remove both harness straps from the splitter plate and pull them through to the front of the seat.

3. Disconnect all elastic loops and all retaining strips, then remove the seat pad.

4. Route the harness straps through adjustment slots, then attach to splitter plate.

5. Fold and tuck the harness, chest clip and buckle tongues into the recesses on either side of the seat shell. Look for logos on seat shell for proper storage locations.

6. Remove the crotch strap. Locate the crotch strap anchor on the bottom. Turn the anchor sideways and push it through the seat shell to remove.

7. Install the seat pad. Your child restraint is now in Booster Mode and ready for a child who meets the following requirements:

• Weight: 18 to 49.8 kg (40 to 110 lbs)

• Height: 112 to 145 cm (44 to 57 in.) and tops of the child’s ears are at or below the top of the child restraint headrest

• Age: At least 4 years old

Evenflo Maestro Sport Booster Installation Checklist

1. Convert the child restraint to a booster seat. See “ Converting into a Booster Seat ”.

2. Secure the booster seat to the vehicle seat. Make sure the bottom and back of the booster seat are touching vehicle seat and back. If your vehicle has LATCH, you may secure the booster seat to the vehicle with the LATCH connectors to prevent the unoccupied booster seat from becoming a projectile in a crash Leveling the booster seat (Canadian Models ONLY).

3. Place the child in the booster seat. Make sure the child’s back and bottom are flat against the back and bottom surfaces of the booster seat.

4. Secure child and booster seat to vehicle seat. Stretch the lap/shoulder belt across the child and fasten the buckle. Make certain the shoulder belt is threaded through the shoulder belt guide. The shoulder belt MUST be routed properly.

5. Check your work. Make sure the lap belt is stretched low and snug across the child’s hips, within the belt guides, and fastened into the buckle. The shoulder belt must cross the child midway between his/her shoulder and neck.

Evenflo Maestro Sport Car Seat Manual

You should always read the user manual before starting to install and use it for riding your child.

The Evenflo Maestro Sport booster car seat manual is stored in a small storage slot on the side of the car seat, but you can always find the online user manual on its official website, or download the PDF here .

Six Candidates Running For Three Seats On Moscow City Council

September 10, 2023 Evan Ellis News

Moscow voters will have several contested elections to decide this fall.

The candidate filing period for seats up for a vote this year in Idaho ended on Friday.

Six candidates are running for three Moscow City Council seats.  Incumbents Sandra Kelly and Drew Davis are running for re-election.  Bryce Blankenship, Joe Campbell, Evan Holmes and Nathan Tupper are also running for city council.  The top three vote getters in November will earn Moscow City Council seats.  Councilwoman Maureen Laflin is not running for re-election.

Elsewhere in Latah County the race for Juliaetta Mayor has three candidates.  Mayor Richard Groseclose is being challenged by Jeff Lohman and Eric McDowell.

No one filed for mayor and a council post in Onaway.
