One of America’s premiere roots rock acts, Freddy Jones Band (and no, none of the members are actually named Freddy Jones) is fronted by the founding member, guitarist and singer/songwriters Marty Lloyd, joined by bassist Rich Ross, guitarist Stu Miller and drummer, Goose LaPoint.
The band is best known for its number-one hits "In A Daydream" and "Take The Time." Now, this long-running act is back with their new release, Never Change, helmed by Producers Justin Niebank (Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock) and label partner Timm Martin of Dustimmoff Music.
Marty Lloyd characterizes the sessions for Never Change—which features the hit song “Those Diamonds" and the project’s title track —as euphoric…“Looking back, our approach to making Never Change was very similar to the historic days down at Muscle Shoals.” he says. “The essence of our sound and songwriting was supported by Justin's ‘A Team’ cast and the room soared from the first down beat. As recording artists we chase that feeling. It was incredibly uplifting and joyful!”
Justin Niebank, a three-time Grammy winning producer/engineer, adds of the album, “Never Change is the best record I have worked on in years!”

Freddy Jones Band has stood out as one of America’s most noteworthy and revered alternative rock acts for over three decades. In 2023, the band will mark the 30th Anniversary of their biggest hit, “In a Daydream,” which topped the AAA Charts in the mid-90’s. To commemorate the milestone, Freddy Jones Band released a brand new version of “In a Daydream” in 2022, as well as their newest singles, “Connected” and “Mirror Ball.” Despite the band’s name, none of the members are named Freddy Jones. Freddy Jones Band is fronted by founding member, Marty Lloyd, who is joined by an all-star lineup that includes longtime band member and noted bassist, Rich Ross, who has also spent many years touring with The Samples. In addition to “In a Daydream,” Freddy Jones Band is known for other popular singles including “Take the Time,” “One World,” and many others. The band’s 2015 studio album, “Never Change,” was produced by three-time Grammy-winning producer and engineer Justin Niebank (Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley). The Windy City was already getting acquainted with the Freddy Jones Band on the underground as early as 1990, but the roots meets blues rockers really made a splash all across America after the widespread re-release of “In A Daydream” raced up the charts.
Believe it or not, it’s been three decades since becoming the breakout single from the band’s national debut album, “Waiting For The Night,” helping define the non-grunge side of the era alongside Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms, Toad The Wet Sprocket and Spin Doctors.
Even so, the musicians colored well outside the lines of the studio versions with improvisations and jams as they not only addressed the immediate celebration at hand, but sampled several more significant moments off various Capricorn, PolyGram and independent collections.
“Wonder” was a fiery way to open, “One World” began the 30th birthday portion of the party and “Kerosene” added fuel to the flames as one from the less distant past of 2015’s “Never Change.”
Though that’s the most recent Freddy Jones Band long-player thus far, the 90-minute set introduced a couple fresh “EP23” tracks, including the jangly chords and hearty harmonies of “Mirror Ball.”
The guys also invited out close friend and multi-instrumentalist Chris Reedy to join on bass come the fellow new cut “Connected” on back through “Those Diamonds,” “Texas Skies” and “Mystic Buzz.”
An encore found the Freddy Jones Band saluting another Chicago institution, Wilco, via a cover of the Billy Bragg collaboration “California Stars,” capping off a milestone trip down memory lane, while pointing to a future full of similar promise as the respected ride thus far.
