So you want to sponsor a KSA family visit visa for your spouse or someone else in your family. What many people don’t take into account is that, not all professions are eligible to sponsor a family visa.

There are only a handful of professions eligible for family visa in Saudi Arabia.

Also, while selecting the profession you need to be careful as some of the professions are reserved only for Saudis, and not expats. You need to ensure that your Iqama is not one of them.

How Can I Check My Profession in Iqama?

The meaning of “Mehna” is job category or profession. Iqama is the best way to know what one’s Mehna is. So in Saudi Arabia, if someone asks for your Mehna, it means they are asking about the profession on your Iqama.

Legally, you can’t work in a profession which is not listed on your Iqama.

You can find your Iqama profession written next to the “Mehna” category as shown below.

What are the Professions Eligible for Family Visa in Saudi Arabia

Here is the complete list of professions allowed to sponsor a Family Visa in KSA. Any profession which is not part of this list is not eligible to apply for a family visa in Saudi Arabia.

If your profession is not one of the listed professions below, you would have to change your Iqama profession.

Change Saudia Arabia Iqama Profession

If your current profession on Saudi Iqama is different from your actual profession, you can change it to apply for a Saudi family visit visa or for any other reason.

Here are the requirements for Iqama profession change.

1. Registration with the Relevant Professional Body

Depending on your profession you would need to be registered with one or more professional bodies in Saudi Arabia.

• The 136 technician professions and engineers need to register with Saudi Council of Engineers .
• All health practitioners need to register with Mumaris Plus .
• All accountants, auditors and people working finance job need to register with SOCPA

It often happens that you would be able to register temporarily with one of teh professional bodies but you won’t be able to renew your registration with the professional body if your educational qualification doesn’t match your current profession.

For example, if you are an accountant, but you did a Bachelors in Arts and a Masters in Political Science, in that case things are gonna get tricky.

You can reach out to them through their helpline or help center email in these cases to get more details.

2. Get Your Degree Attested to Match with Iqama Profession

You need to get the degree attested from the Saudi embassy of the country that issued your degree in the first place. So for example, if you got your degree in the Philippines, that means the Saudi embassy of the Philippines can attest your degree.

3. Be in Saudi Arabia

You can change your profession on Iqama only when you are inside Saudi Arabia.

4. Pay the Fees to Change Iqama Profession

The fees to change Iqama profession is 1000 SR. You can make the payment in any of the banks is Saudi Arabia using Internet banking for this.

5. Contact the GRO of the Company

Once you have made the payment, your employer needs to contact the Government Relations Officer of your company to start the process.

Usually the HR of your company would take care of this.

6. Check the Status of Change in Profession

After applying to change your Iqama profession, you can check your profession on

• In Absher Account Log into your Absher account and check the change of your profession, by visiting the “Dashboard” and then checking the left side of the screen to check your details.
• NCB Internent Bank ing If you have a bank account with Al Ahli bank, you can also check your Iqama Mehna using the NCB internet banking services.

7. Get a New Iqama

Visit any Jawazat office to get the new Iqama that should have your new profession. The whole process to change the profession can take 20 or more business days.

You can keep on using the old Iqama until you get the new one.

Changing Iqama Profession: F.A.Q.S

Can you change iqama profession without certificate.

There are certain profession changes that don’t need an attested degree.

1. Changing Non-technical professions

If you are changing your profession from one non-technical profession to another, for example laborer to cleaner, you don’t need attested certificates.

2. Changing from a Technical to Labor Profession

A Saudi resident with Iqama profession as an accountant can be registered with any degree with SOCPA and then transfer it to Labor. The same goes for a computer technician.

Can Domestic Workers Change Saudi Iqama Profession?

If your Iqama profession is a domestic worker such as Housemaid, Driver etc., you can’t change it into a business profession. You can only transfer it to some other domestic profession.

Reasons Your Iqama Profession Change was Denied

In reality, there are many reasons your application for an Iqama profession change might be rejected. Here are the most common ones.

• The Iqama has expired. In this case, you would need to renew the iqama as soon as possible.
• The Iqama profession is reserved for Saudis.
• Your company is in Red Nitaqat category.
• Your membership with SOCPA, SCE or Mumaris has expired.
• You need to be registered with two professional bodies in Saudi Arabia, but you are registered with only one. For example, if you are a computer programmer registered with SOCPA, but not with SCE, in that case you would need to get a temporary membership of SCE first to change the Iqama profession.  Let’s say you want to change your profession to an Accountant, then SOCPA membership is required

Hey! I would like to know that mu husband works at Saudi under manager category. He has completed an international diploma and its not a degree. So when he applies for visa he has to submit his educational documents to the embassy for the verification. He is eligible to sponsor dependent visa only if he had completed degree or we can proceed with the international diploma certificate?

Dear Sir, I would like to bring my family from india. So I have approached with istiqdam office regarding family visa. My Igama profession is food provider but my profession is Civil Engineer (DESIGN ENGINEER) in my office record. Becasuse of IGAMA profession the istiqdam office is denied to issue visa. For this purpose I have conveyed this message to HR Department.But this issue is prolonging for the past five months.I am a Master Degree holder and government employee. Whenever I am visiting to SCE office they are simply saying that your Jawazat is not updated and yaqeem verified pending.please revert back with solution.

Hello, Deb, i need a prompt response from you, in changing my profession, My visa issued on PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR, now i want to bring my family on IQAMA, but this profession not in the list. The issue is that when i sent my papers for attestation , they refuse my graduation degree, which i did privately from Karachi university, & it is not acceptable.

2ndly my MBA degree is also not acceptable as it was issued from Preston University. & it is an American university.

Hi Adnan, Have you tried getting your MBA degree attested from the Saudi embassy/consulate in the USA where you did it? They should be able to attest it. The graduation degree can be attested in Pakistan. I don’t understand why it could not happen.

What professions do not need a degree? I work in Marketing, and I do not have any formal qualifications or a degree.

The company that I will be working for is an Advertising/Marketing company. I am based in London and I assume I have to do a work visa from here? If the company offer me a low level title or a title that does not need a degree will i still have to ability to sponsor my family? My company are including family visas also.

Hi Shoaib, I believe this is a problem that a lot of people face even after having a degree in the field they are working for. If you can get a job through some kind of connection where you bring your experience from London. I don’t think it would be that hard if you can find the right channels and you really want to be there. Then you can sponsor your family easily. Because if you go with a low-level title, it would take time to make these changes and then you would be fighting through the bureaucracy.

But if your company is for sure sponsoring and helping you with the family visas, then worth taking a shot maybe.

Please advice me, say I bring my family on resident visa based on my existing iqama profession and after that I change my profession when my family would be already in KSA. In this case, do I need to make change / issue new iqama for my resident family member as well.? Note: Both my existing and prospective professions are eligible for resident family visa.

This is Santanu and an IT professional. Currently in Riyadh since 14th Oct, however my IQAMA is not processed yet as SCE still showing verification is in progress on my MCA degree. Also last week they asked for my bachelor degree details which is in pure Bsc (pure science), nothing to do with MCA or my technical role currently playing.

Could you please update whether Bsc will be considered on top of MCA as my BSC degree certificate is not legalized yet or not been asked before. Also any impact you see on getting IQAMA if you have any knowledge.

Hello sir I have 2 years diploma in Orthopaedic Cast Technology. And attested by Saudi embassy in my home country, on getting here, I was asked to do mumaris but my profession is not listed on mumaris, I applied for qualification of new study buy rejected stating that no relationship between qualification and specialty applied for. And I’m yet to get my iqama, please sir what do you suggest.

Saudi visa for GCC residents- Easy Guide with 2024 updates

The Saudi government detailed several reforms which were to be affected from September 2019. The reforms align with the Saudi vision 2030. Notable among the reforms is Saudi Arabia's government's move to open doors to visitors from all over the world under the e-visa program. What is a Saudi visit visa for GCC RESIDENTS?

The GCC residents no longer have to go through the hectic process of being issued with Saudi Arabia e-visa as per the September 2019 reforms.

All required is to present your resident visa permit copy, Passport copy scan, and white background photo.

For expatriates in Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, and Qatar, you can get the Saudi e-visa by presenting a GCC resident visa permit only if you have a good occupation.

Documents Required

The whole process of applying Saudi visa for a GCC resident is through E-visa. Hence, the documents you will provide Arabiers should scan a digital copy. Below are Saudi visa requirements for GCC residents:

• Passport copy scan
• White background photo
• GCC resident visa permit copy

It would cost around all inclusive 690 AED. The rate includes the include initial consultation, documents collections, application typing, paying Saudi embassy and travel insurance (Age above 75 will have to pay additional amount for insurance and some time some additional)

The e-visa is a multiple entry visa but allows one to stay in Saudi Arabia for 90 das. You can use it to enter Saudi Arabia multiple times within its 90 days validity within the period indicated on the visa. The e-visa valid is valid for 1 year.

The processing of the Saudi Arabia e-visa is completely done online. It takes 2-3 working days to complete the process. As of January 1, 2022, Saudi Arabia changed working days from Monday to Friday half day.

• The Insurance policy activation will be as per the dates registered in MOFA?s Visa Issuance System (Enjaz)
• When the insurance policy is activated, you'll receive an email with an electronic copy of the insurance policy schedule and an electronic medical card.
• When you cancel the insurance policy, you'll also have to cancel the Visit Visa from the Saudi Embassy or Consulate office.
• If you decide to enter Saudi Arabia before the policy activation date, you should contact us to activate the insurance policy.
• If you are issued a visa after the insurance activation date, the policy will be activated when you are issued the visa.

1. The Two Holy Mosques, Makkah & Madinah

Masjid al-Haram is the largest mosque in the world. It is also known as the Great Mosque. This revered mosque is home to the holy Kaaba, which is often called the abode of Allah.

2. Abraj Al-Bait Towers, Makkah

The Kingdom Center Tower is one of the most well-known buildings in Riyadh. The location of this skyscraper, which is about 300 meters tall and is seen as a national symbol because it is in the country's capital city, is very important.

It is one of the most popular places for tourists in Riyadh. It has many shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, high-end brands, a five-star hotel, and luxurious housing complexes.

The SkyBridge, a 300-ton steel bridge that spans the capital city, sits on top of this architectural masterpiece and offers stunning views of the metropolis.

4. Al Rahma Mosque

The Al Rahma Mosque, located on the northern coast of the city's waterfront, is considered the most popular site in Jeddah. It is also considered one of the greatest locations to visit in Jeddah.

It is an example of contemporary Islamic architecture and boasts a dome in the color turquoise. Because it is constructed on stilts, it gives the appearance of floating on the Red Sea; hence, it is known as the "Floating Mosque."

5. Masmak Fortress

The Masmak Fortress in Saudi Arabia is a beautiful piece of architecture with a palace and a museum.

It is one of the most visited places in the country. This castle, in the historical part of Riyadh, was built out of clay and mud bricks.

Many people think Emir Abdulaziz ibn Saud Al Saud, from the House of Rasheed, attacked and took this castle in 1902.

The Battle of Riyadh, which took place in Riyadh, was a key part of how the Saudis could regain control of their country's capital city.

6. King Abdulaziz Historical Centre

It is home to the At-Turaif district, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is thought to be the home of the Al Saud royal family. Diriyah is known for its mud-brick buildings and narrow streets.

8. Rijal Almaa

Rijal Almaa is a village in the Asir region of Saudi Arabia. It was originally thought to be a natural conduit joining Makkah, Madinah, Yemen, and the Levant, which made it a regional commerce center.

There are around sixty multi-story structures made of wood, clay, and stone throughout the village. It is the site of several historic fortifications, and in 1985, residents of the area created a museum here to preserve the village's history and culture.

9. Fakieh Aquarium

The Fakieh Aquarium is the only aquarium in all of Saudi Arabia open to the general public. It is truly one of a kind and warrants a visit due to its location on Jeddah's north Corniche.

The Fakieh Aquarium is a remarkable place to visit since it is home to more than two hundred amazing varieties of marine life. There are marine life specimens collected from oceans and seas all over the world.

In addition, there are daily presentations, including sea lions and dolphins, which are especially widely attended by families with young children.

10. King Fahd's Fountain

The King Fahd Fountain is a popular place to see in Jeddah; you can see it from all over the city. It is a monument standing in the middle of the Red Sea for 30 years. Its waters paint the Jeddah sunset from a height of 312 meters, and you can see the fountain no matter how far away you are, even if you want to take a picture or a video of that magical scene.

The Ministry of Tourism in Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday that all GCC residents can now apply for a visit visa to the Kingdom - irrespective of their professions.

Earlier, there was a list of accepted professions, available to check on the ministry website, that GCC residents had to fall under in order to be allowed to apply.

According to the website, visitors can apply for and receive a multiple-entry visa for up to 90 days. This permit would be valid for a year and would allow the holder to perform Umrah, except during the Haj season. They can also apply for a single-entry visa for up to 30 days, which is valid for three months from the date of issuance.

The cost of an eVisa is "SAR300 plus full health insurance fees".

The following are the eligibility requirements:

1. The applicant must be at least 18 years old. For children under 18, the guardian must apply first.

2. The applicant's passport must be valid for at least six months, and the applicant must have a residency ID from a GCC country valid for no less than three months.

3. Visa holders can perform Umrah anytime except during the Haj season

4. The applicant must complete separate visa applications for each member of their direct family, and must accompany the member while entering the Kingdom.

Earlier, it was announced that the Kingdom would allow travellers to get a 96-hour entry permit to the country along with their flight tickets. The holder is allowed to perform Haj and Umrah with this transit visa .

GCC Residents Eligible for Saudi eVisa Regardless of Profession

The Tourism Ministry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has announced that legal residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can now apply for a Saudi electronic visa regardless of profession.

In September 2022, Saudi Arabia opened the eVisa application to GCC residents who worked in select occupations. However, this requirement has now been removed. All residents of GCC countries are now eligible to apply online.

Additionally, GCC residents can also apply for a Saudi eVisa for:

• Accompanying first-degree relatives (e.g. parents, spouses, and children)
• Domestic workers they sponsor (if they arrive with the GCC resident)

The tourist eVisa for Saudi Arabia was first introduced in 2019 aims to make it easier to travel to the Kingdom for short-term stays.

Eligible travelers simply need to complete a simple online form, upload supporting documents in digital format, and pay a processing fee. They then r eceive an approved eVisa by email, usually within 48 hours.

What GCC residents Need to Apply for the Saudi eVisa

Citizens of GCC countries do not need a visa to visit Saudi Arabia. However, those living in the following countries on a residence permit do:

• Saudi Arabia
• United Arab Emirates

According to the Saudi Arabia Visa Policy , GCC residents need to meet the following requirements to apply for their eVisa:

• Have a residency permit valid for at least 3 months
• Hold a passport with minimum 6-month validity
• Pay the eVisa fee using a valid credit or debit card

The price of the Saudi eVisa for GCC residents includes a mandatory medical insurance policy. This covers any emergency health costs that the traveler may incur during their stay.

Restrictions for GCC Residents Traveling with a Saudi eVisa

The Saudi eVisa for GCC residents is available as either a

• Multiple-entry permit valid for 1 year from approval, allowing a stay of up to 90 days
• Single-entry visa valid for 3 months from issue, permitting a stay of up to 30 days

GCC residents must be over the age of 18 to apply for a Saudi eVisa. However, parents are allowed to apply on behalf of their child.

Families must apply for a separate Saudi visa for GCC residents for each individual. They must also enter the country together as a group.

The Saudi Arabia eVia for GCC residents allows the holder to visit the Kingdom for the following purposes:

• business activities
• Umrah religious pilgrimage

However, it is not possible to perform Umrah on an eVisa during Hajj. A separate visa from a Saudi embassy or consulate must be obtained for a Hajj pilgrimage.

How to get Oman e-visa for GCC residents?

Oman does not offer on-arrival visas to GCC residents and Saudi Iqama holders anymore. Instead, GCC residents need to apply for an Oman e-visa as explained below.

• GCC countries: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait.

Requirements for Oman e-Visa

In order to apply for an Oman e-visa as a Saudi Iqama holder or GCC resident, you need to have the following;

• Eligible Profession (list of professions given below).
• Passport with a validity of 6 months.
• Digital Iqama with 6 months validity.
• Personal Photo.
• The traveler must enter Oman directly from a GCC country.
• Oman Visa Fee: OMR 5 or SR 50.
• Oman Visa Validity: 28 days.

Step 1: Register your account

If you fulfill all the requirements explained above, you need to register an account with the Royal Oman Police website.

• Open the website .
• Click on the “ Register New User ” button.
• Fill out the registration form by entering your email, full name, phone number, and password.
• Activate the account by clicking on the received email.

Step 2: Apply for an Oman e-Visa

After registering your account with the Royal Oman Police website.

• Open the Oman eVisa website: https://evisa.rop.gov.om/en/home .
• Click on “ Apply for Tourist Visa “.
• Login to your recently created account.
• Click on “ Apply for Visa “.
• Select “ Apply for Unsponsored Visa ” from the options.
• Choose your Nationality .
• Are you a GCC resident? “ Yes “.
• Select the GCC country of residence: Saudi Arabia .

Step 3: Select the Type of Visa

In the next screen, you will have to choose the type of Oman e-visa that you want to apply. You can select one of the following options;

• 29A GCC Resident Visa is available for a GCC resident who is an employee and his profession is given in the list below.
• 29B GCC Resident Visa: If you are taking your GCC resident family  (dependents) with you to Oman, you will have to apply for this type of visa.

Step 4: Fill out the Visa Application form

On the next page, you need to enter the

• applicant’s passport details.
• additional details, such as occupation, mother’s name, and marital status.
• Upload the required documents as explained above.
• Submit the visa application.

Step 5: Pay the Oman Visa Fee

Soon you will receive an email from the Oman e-visa platform confirming the approval of the visa along with a payment link.

Click on the payment link and pay the fee with either your credit or debit card.

• Oman Visa Fee: OMR 5.
• Visa Processing Time: 4 to 5 days.

Saudi Arabia: Here are the updated rules for Hajj 2024 that prioritise pilgrims' health and safety

Would-be pilgrims must meet vaccination criteria and obtain official permits

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has announced updated conditions for performing Hajj in 2024, which include several new requirements aimed at ensuring the health and safety of pilgrims.

The Ministries of Hajj and Umrah, along with the Ministry of Health, specified that all pilgrims must obtain a Hajj permit through the Nusk platform, which is crucial for the legitimacy of their pilgrimage.

Additionally, registration through the Sehaty application is required to verify vaccination status.

Key conditions set forth for the 2024 Hajj include:

• Mandatory registration in the Sehaty app to confirm necessary vaccinations.

• Residents within Saudi Arabia must have received the COVID-19 vaccine, influenza vaccine, and meningitis vaccine within the last five years.

• International pilgrims are required to have the Neisseria meningitidis vaccine administered at least 10 days but not more than five years prior to their arrival, verified by a certificate from their home country. They must also be vaccinated against polio.

Further general conditions for all pilgrims:

• A valid passport through at least the end of Dhu Al Hijjah 1445 (June 7, 2024).

• A minimum age requirement of 12 years.

• Vaccinations against COVID-19, seasonal flu, and meningitis.

• A health certification confirming the pilgrim is free from any infectious diseases.

The announcement follows a recent statement by the Council of Senior Scholars, emphasizing that performing Hajj without an official permit is considered sinful. The measures aim to facilitate the smooth conduct of Hajj rituals and to enhance the quality of services provided to pilgrims, ensuring a safe and spiritually fulfilling experience for all attendees.
