RZN Golf Ball Review

Nike exited the hard goods business in 2016, but the original manufacturer of the RZN balls has brought them back to live (and store shelves).

When Nike exited the golf hard goods business in 2016, fans of the Nike golf ball with “RZN” technology grabbed all of the remaining balls that they could, fearful that the ball would never be seen again.

It’s not often that truly new things happen in the golf ball industry. The last may have been the switch to the solid-core ball at the premium level, started by Top-Flite, strongly pushed by Titleist, and now the realm of everyone including direct-to-consumer brands like Snell or Vice. A strong case could be made for the introduction of Nike’s “resin” technology, which isn’t constructed quite like other golf balls.

RZN Balls

As best as I can tell, Nike produced balls with Bridgestone for a number of years, but introduced the resin ball produced by Feng Tay Enterprises since 2006 .

So, fans of Nike’s later golf balls rejoiced, and the rest of the world? Well, I suppose we were interested to see if the golf world had moved on from 2016, or if Nike was truly on to something that was reborn in the RZN.

Read on to find out what we thought of the RZN HS-Tour and MS-Tour balls.

Design, Technology, and Esthetics

RZN says that their ball, compared to a typical rubber core golf ball, is both “lighter and faster.” The ligher resin core promotes a higher moment of inertia (MOI), which RZN says “grants the ball with a piercing and stable flight, especially in windy conditions.” Speaking from a physics perspective, a higher MOI ball (with more weight toward the perimeter of the ball) would spin less, but would maintain spin a bit longer into the flight.

As seen in the marketing materials from Nike and now RZN, the balls feature a “3D texture” on the resin core that helps “maximize surface contact for better energy transfer and longer distance.” This 3D texturing not only connects the core to the mantle, but the mantle layers to the cover, too.

RZN Ball Exploded

The RZN balls have two more features worth noting. First, the company claims that the balls have “13,558 micro-dimples on the entire ball surface” that “reduces air drag and enhances carry distance.” You’ve likely seen Bridgestone balls with “dimple-in-dimple” designs designed to do the same things, and while I couldn’t particularly see these micro-dimples, I trust that at some microscopic level they could result in whole inches added to your tee shots. Penultimately, RZN claims that their balls’ “soft TPU cover enhances grip and control in wet conditions” by eliminating slipping (the ball riding up the club face). If true, this may have put Bryson DeChambeau’s water spritzer guy out of work.

Finally, RZN also calls their golf ball cores “nature-caring with fully recyclable materials.” And, though the odds of recycling golf balls is probably pretty slim, it’s important not to overlook manufacturing waste in considering recycling efficiency.

As for the looks, to be honest, the balls fall down here. The two balls feature a logo, a number, and the ball model all on both hemispheres, with a multi-line alignment feature on one “side” along the equator. The HS-Tour features red text for the model name and number, while the MS-Tour is black.

xxxx

Several fellow golfers commented on the logo and alignment line, with one calling them “bargain bin graphics.” I couldn’t strongly disagree. On one hand, the graphics don’t really matter – ball performance should dictate whether you like the ball at all. And, to be sure, there is a natural bias in a ball not saying “Titleist” or “Callaway” on it. Other logos are bound to “look” cheaper because golfers simply aren’t used to seeing these fonts or these logos on high-performance balls. On the other hand, how you feel about the product you’re looking down at or playing can influence play.

As for me, well, I didn’t like the logos at all. The font choice just does nothing for me. But, the balls were easy to identify as mine, whether in the rough or near another player’s ball. So that’s a plus. Nobody’s likely to hit my golf ball accidentally!

Performance and Playability

As noted above, we tested the MS-Tour and the HS-Tour balls, designed for medium-speed (MS-Tour) players and high-speed (HS-Tour) players.

RZN Boxes

The MS-Tour is a three-piece ball with a soft urethane cover and:

  • Long Distance on ALL long Irons, Woods and Driver
  • Our Lowest Compression Tour Core Formulation ?soft feel on all shots.
  • Good Control all around the green
  • Reduced Air Drag due to Micro Dimple Surface
  • High Grip in Wet Conditions
  • Bigger Alignment for easier aiming while putting

The HS-Tour is RZN Golf’s four-piece ball, with a soft urethane cover, and:

  • Explosive Distance on ALL long Irons, Woods and Driver.
  • Specifically forgiving on driver miss-shots due to a low driver spin.
  • Control all around the green through its High Spin on short irons and wedge.

Boxes

In other words, the MS-Tour is a slightly softer ball that’s going to spin a little bit more, likely off the driver and the wedges both. In testing, this bears out, though the differences in spin were often only 300-400 RPM with wedges and 100-200 RPM with the driver.

In play, this bears out, too: it’s difficult to tell which ball is which if you don’t see the red text on the HS-Tour. The balls perform very similarly to one another, and quite honestly, to virtually all other premium balls on the market.

RZN Balls

The RZN golf ball performs really well. It’s long off the tee, it launches at a good angle. It sounds good, and spins well enough into greens. I didn’t have to adjust my game to account for more or less short game spin than I’m used to. The lighter core (and heavier outer layers) and thus higher MOI didn’t noticeably reduce spin at all. The balls still curved as much in the air and behaved predictably landing on greens, whether from a 167 yards or from a green side bunker shot or pitch.

Durability was good. I found a few cart paths, and the RZN ball didn’t scuff more than most other premium balls, despite the “soft TPU cover.” One such scuff was right on the logo, improving the appearance of the golf ball. (I kid, I kid!) I did hit one shot from a bunker that seemed to unnecessarily scrape up the ball, but given the lack of bunker maintenance due to COVID-19, I chalked it up at the time to a small rock.

RZN Boxes Back

One knock on the Nike RZN balls was how they’d perform in cold weather. I didn’t have the most options to test these balls in cool conditions (55° F or cooler), and I’m not a robot, but I didn’t notice any noticeable decline in performance. I didn’t play Nike’s RZN ball much prior to 2016, though, either.

I remember a story from when TaylorMade was coming out with their first tour-level ball in quite some time in the mid-2000s. Sergio Garcia was switching from his current ball to the TP ball, and kept insisting the TP wasn’t quite as good as his current ball. One day, unbeknownst to Sergio, Dean Snell (then of TaylorMade) printed his current ball’s logo on some TP balls. Sergio hit a variety of shots, and said “see, I want it to fly like that !” After awhile, Snell revealed that Sergio had been hitting the TP ball the whole time.

We hear tales all the time of players being able to detect the smallest of differences between clubs, balls, gloves, shafts… whatever. Some of them may even be true, and some may be a matter of superstition or rationalizing. What I know for certain is that we’re not at Sergio’s level, or Tiger’s, or Bryson’s, or JT’s.

RZN Boxes

In a crowded market, RZN Golf still has something unique with their resin technology and 3D textured core and mantle. The HS-Tour and MS-Tour perform just as you’d expect for a high-level, premium ball, and I recommend giving them a trial.

If you were already a fan of Nike’s RZN golf ball, I have good news for you: they’re back. They’re new and improved. They’re also a bit less expensive, though I had trouble finding a source to buy these RZN golf balls online. If you are able to find them, they should be run you about $34.99.

I live in FRANCE , I haven’t seen these balls . Where can I get them ?

Nice review. Which is closest to the Nike Tour Platinum, the 4 piece?

Yes, Ray, the higher spinning ball is more closely aligned to the Platinum. The lower spinning one is more like the Black.

What are the compressions of the MS and HS golf ball?

Live here in the US where can I buy them?

Nice review with information not found on the RZN web page (rzngolf.com). Bought and played the RZN Force and the RZN Tour (apparently being replaced by the RZN Distance and MS Tour, respectively). Both are very good golf balls. Long and straight from the tee (particularly on windy days); however, the RZN Tour is better around the greens (more spin/more control). The Force compares very well with the Bridgestone e12, and other 3-piece ionomer golf balls . The Tour compares very well with the Titleist AVX and Taylor Made Tour Response or the now retired Project (a), and other 3-piece urethane golf balls.

Thanks for your review! I started playing golf when these balls were no longer available, but I’ve heard a lot about them. And I’m glad for the news that they are back. I will definitely purchase one for myself and try it out. It’s actually true that we can tell the difference between all the clubs, balls, and if we’re given a new club in our hands there’s a 99 percent chance that it won’t work out right away. We get used to our objects and our tools, which in our hands makes the game. I had that with my shoes. It took me a long time to find the right one that I would stand on the field in and I wouldn’t have to think about the discomfort on my feet. I was lucky enough to find the best https://golfsupport.com/golf-shoes/mens-golf-shoes , and now I enjoy playing the golf I love. I look forward to purchasing this ball, I am excited to try it out.

I just tested the HS-tour. This got to be the cheapest cover layer, I’ve ever seen. Every wedge shot left deep scuff marks. I was hitting it on a simulator bay (no sand, clean face), and the ball was destroyed after 10 shots.

There is no way those are the same balls, as the Nike. They definitely cheap out, don’t waste your money.

I’m in Canada, I got them from Golftown.

RZN MS-Tour Golf Ball Review

RZN MS Tour

The RZN MS-Tour ball is one of four models released as part of the return of the form Nike brand in 2020

The RZN brand was formed in 2006 and operated on a research and development relationship for Nike. Since Nike ended its golf equipment sales in 2016, RZN balls disappeared from the shelves.

Now they are back with the original developers now manufacturing the balls, with the MS-Tour model joined by the HS-Tour , Distance and Speed models.

What RZN say about the MS-Tour golf ball:

“RZN MS-Tour is a three piece tour performance golf ball with soft urethane cover and 3D speed lock technology.

RZN MS Tour

“Designed with state of the art technology of the RZN Brand. Expect a soft and powerful tour ball targeted for medium swing speeds players.

“What to Expect: Long distance on all long irons, woods and driver, our lowest compression Tour Core Formulation (for) soft feel on all shots.

“Good Control all around the green, reduced air drag due to Micro Dimple Surface, high grip in wet conditions and bigger alignment for easier aiming while putting.”

RZN MS-Tour Golf Ball Design

The MS-Tour ball is one of two options in the RZN Tour range. This options has been designed for players with a medium swing speed, which is the reason for its name.

RZN MS Tour

The MS ball is a three piece construction and features a low compression design to maximise distance from a soft ball.

The RZN MS ball has a urethane cover and features 3D speed lock technology to help produce the distance golfers are looking for.

Like the HS-Tour, the MS model has 13,558 micro-dimples to reduce drag and provide unrivalled carry and distances from the tee and with irons.

The alignment line on the ball has been made bigger and easy to use than in previous models under the Nike banner.

RZN MS-Tour Ball Verdict

The MS-Tour is an extremely value for money ball. If you are in the market for a soft ball at a reasonable price, this could be the answer.

RZN have come up with a ball that helps maximise distance for players specifically with a medium swing speed. You don’t have to swing hard and fast to get the most out of your game.

It is a durable ball, despite being low compression and soft, and stands up well against similar products on the market – just with a cheaper price tag.

Rzn distance & ms tour golf ball review.

You know the saying, what is old is new again. Well, as in life, that sometimes applies to golf equipment as well.

With that, I would like to formally re-introduce you to…

RZN Golf Balls.

Oh yes, that RZN, and without Nike.

Behind the RZN

You are more than likely wondering if there is no Nike, then how are RZN golf balls being produced again? Well, that part is pretty simple, RZN Golf is producing the balls.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Now, who is that? Well, the currently named RZN Golf has actually been producing golf balls for Nike since 2006 and were a part of the development of the original 3-Piece RZN design so this isn’t just someone grabbing a patent and producing things again. That in mind, I do want to address the 2006 date where production is concerned, because as we well know now (and THP had been saying it for years prior), Bridgestone Golf had been producing the Tour balls for Nike prior to the development of RZN. I only bring that up because the phrasing the company is using on producing Nike’s golf balls since 2006 is accurate, they just cleverly leave out which golf balls.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

However, that doesn’t really matter. The fact that they were heavily involved in working with Rock Ishii (a legend in golf ball development) through the RZN creation process is what matters most. So, you have people behind the re-introduction of RZN that are not only familiar with it but working to improve it.

I was able to work with two of the four different golf ball models that they have brought to market, a urethane ball in the RZN MS-Tour and an ionomer ball in the RZN Distance.

RZN Distance

I want to start with the ionomer offering first. The company actually has two, the Speed and the Distance. The Speed is a two-piece design while the Distance, which I worked with, is a three-piece design utilizing the RZN material core. So, what you get is a micro-dimple ionomer cover, mantle, and 3D Speed Lock Resin core engineered to be a ball that will “maximize distance with effortless swings while keeping a soft feel” at a pleasing $19.95 price.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Looks wise, the discussion during testing on the THP forum was pretty pointed, namely at the logo itself being too big/awkward, and personally I agree only in the sense that it is what stands out most and not the pretty slick “micro-dimple” coating. Additionally, the alignment line, though effective, comes off as trying to be fancier than it needs to be. All that said, you cannot blame a company for trying to stand out visually, because if you don’t at least try to do that then you will fade into the background noise.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

To work this one out, it and the MS-Tour were hit on the Foresight GC2 as well as ample practice and course time. While I’m not going to get to really dive into the data due to some technical hiccups, I can say without a shadow of a doubt the RZN Distance is what you would expect. Through the bag the launch came easy for me, and the spin stayed in the moderate range which really maximized the distance. Bigger though, was that there was absolutely   no harsh or overly firm feedback which is what I had a dislike for with the original RZN options. To take that a step further, those old golf balls had some issues with temperature fluctuations, notably the cold, so I refrigerated some before testing and the numbers came back very comparable while the feel was not noticeably more harsh. In the end, this one is a playable ball, but it is an ionomer ball built for consistency and not spin, so if one plays for that, at $19.95 it competes with others in the segment.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

RZN MS-Tour

Like the ionomer offerings, there are two Tour level options as well, the MS-Tour which is a three-piece design aimed at mid-speed players and the HS-Tour a four-piece design. I was able to work with the MS-Tour featuring a wide diameter core, 3D Speed Lock mantle, and urethane cover with micro-dimples. As the company has labeled it, “A soft and powerful tour ball”, but at a $29.95 price tag that should turn some heads.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

We do have to discuss this one aesthetically as well, and the feedback on the forum was pretty much the same. I’ll again say, yes, I do think the logo is a bit bold, but the all black on this one makes it less noticeable. Also, the unique alignment line is going to be a love it or leave it thing for people, but it’s an alignment line so I don’t know how make or break that should be. The micro-dimple cover stands out a lot more on the urethane compared to the ionomer, and it looks pretty cool. One thing to note, with the two golf balls next to each-other, this one is a little more off white than the bright white Distance was. Not an issue to me, but I know some are sticklers about such things.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Like with the Distance, I worked the MS-Tour on the Foresight GC2 as well as on the course. As mentioned in the previous section, there were some technical difficulties on the data, so there won’t be a deep dive. That said, these surprised me a lot. I will admit to not being a big fan of the Nike RZN golf balls, in fact I have been outspoken about it in the past, from the firmness to the effect of temperature fluctuations on the ball. Here with the MS-Tour I don’t have either of those complaints. I was able to compress this one with relative ease, not only that, the numbers were solid from tee to green including wedges peaking in the high 9,000 RPM’s, which for me is about as good as it gets. Beyond that, despite not being a “mid-speed” player, the ball reacted well to my SS, and I saw ample distance off the tee to match the wedge spin, and the durability was serviceable overall. For a ball at this price point ($29.95) there is a lot I came away impressed with.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Though there are still some questions I have where design, other offerings, and where the company is headed from here designs wise are concerned, I walked away from this review with these in a positive light. At the price points, and with the RZN name recognition which might still have some weight out there, it’ll be interesting to see who gives them a shot.

RZN DISTANCE GOLF BALL

rzn ms tour golf balls review

As you may have read in the last RZN MS-TOUR review, the old Nike faithful ball is back under the new label of RZN.  The nice thing about the RZN DISTANCE ball is that it shares some of the upgraded technology of the MS-TOUR while still distinguishing itself in a category all its own.

Similarities are the bigger alignment visuals which really help in aiming the ball to the target; Speed Lock technology which binds the layers for better energy transference and the Micro Dimple Technology which helps the ball with better contact to the club face and reduces air drag.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Here’s where the RZN Distance comes into its own.  First, RZN has used an ionomer cover rather than urethane.  Ionomer is harder and more durable than urethane and will help the ball fly true off the tee hence promoting distance.  The big difference will be in the feel of the ball.  If you’re looking for a lower compression but still want that classic ‘click’ when you take you’re shot, than the cover on the RZN Distance will feel right for you.  Better players say that the cover causes the ball not to stop as well on the greens due to spin rate but, unless you’re a scratch or single digit handicapper, you may not notice that big of a difference.

The construction of the ball is obviously different.  When you look at the inside of the ball you can see an obvious difference over the MS-TOUR.  This is to be expected.  After all, this ball is designed to fly.  So let’s bring these puppies to the course and see how they perform in the real world.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Off the tee, just as expected, the ball is easy to line up to the target via the bigger alignment lines.  This is great for us aging golfers with glasses or bifocals.  Easy to read means that you don’t have to adjust the angle of your head at setup.  A big plus right there!  When struck the ball has a resounding sound which is more like a higher compression ball.  The ball flew rather straight when I wanted it to and, of course, sliced a few times but surprisingly not that far off line as some other balls seem to (notice that I put the fault on the balls and not on me!).

From the grass or rough the ball gripped the club face well and seemed to come out the tall stuff pretty nicely.  Seems to have been a slight loss of trajectory but nothing that really impeded my game.  The Micro Dimple Technology on the ball also seemed to help when I got into the damper areas again giving a very controlled feel on my shots.  The sand shots showed the same results and from the fairway bunkers I really didn’t get the sense that there was any difference over most of my other bunker shots.  The ball performed well but nothing that could I say was a noticeable improvement.

Wedge shots to the green were uneventful but that’s actually a good thing.  I know that some say the ionomer cover makes it harder to control spin and stopping ability on the greens but I guess I just don’t have that kind of prowess to find any noticeable difference.  Then again, I am a mid-handicapper so one more thing that is a constant work in progress.

Putting was on point with the bigger alignment lines coming into play once again.  There’s just something that exudes confidence for me to look down, see an accurate point of contact and watch my putt head towards where I lined it up.

rzn ms tour golf balls review

Overall the RZN DISTANCE golf ball performed handsomely.  It was definitely an improvement off the tee and was pretty much as expected the rest of the way.  And, at a price of under $20.00, it is definitely a value when you look at the performance and durability of the ball.  I would highly recommend that you try a dozen with one of your golf buddies and compare them to what you’re using now.  Reach out to them at www.RZNgolf.com and check out the specs and see which ball would fit your game.  You’ll be happy that you did!

Stay safe and play well,

Bottom line up front: I feel like this ball will find its way into a niche market, especially at the under $40 price point. It’s a soft, spinny short game wizard. But I don’t think it’ll be a fit for those who already have spin issues on the longer clubs.

Customer service: Basic, functional website with no major bugs that I discovered. Order processed same day, and shipped Philadelphia to CA within a business week.

Looks: Off-white, but not noticeably so on the course, decent logo to look at with a really nice alignment line on the side.

Pros: Absolutely the best feeling ball I’ve ever played for shots under 50 yards. Soft on all short game shots and putts, but still has plenty of bite when needed. Played a full round with one and had only minor scuffing.

Cons: This ball flies HIGH, like it’s going into orbit and not coming back high. Lost distance on my longer clubs. Picks up stains quickly with the microdimples, but they wash out for the most part.

- 9 holes with Srixon Z Star (current gamer) as primary ball, while hitting an RZN as a second ball on certain shots.

- 18 holes with RZN as the primary ball, and Z Star as a second on certain shots.

- Z Star had a much more penetrating ball flight off the tee, and consequently was always 20-30 yards longer. I was also more accurate with the Z Star, likely due to the apex of the RZN being so high and being pushed around by the breeze.

- Both balls responded well to shot shaping, but as expected the RZN could turn much harder and did not want to stay low.  - Also unsurprisingly the RZN often spun back on the green, while the Z Star took one bound forward and stopped.

- Not much of a left to right dispersion difference on approach shots. The Z Star was more predictable for me yardage wise, but that could be bias for it being my gamer.

- On all short shots the RZN really shined with its feel and stopping power. I also preferred it off the putter face over the Z Star.

As the subject states I'm wondering if anyone's taken out the new RZN's for a spin. I'm a big fan of the Nike RZN's and still play what I have left. I think the new RZN is the closest thing I'll get to a brand new Nike RZN without the logo. Anyone play them? Like them? Dislike them? Any improvement or are they worse?

Let me know.

There is a post on the new Vice Zero golf ball, which is essentially the same ball with different stamping.

I did play some rounds with MS-Tour. I am not a good golfer. For me, the feel and distance is similar between Pro V1 and MS-Tour. However, Nike did not have such 3 piece ball before (rubber core with 2 thin outer layers), so there is no equivalent model from Nike's time for MS-Tour.

RZN Pro is new ball launched this year, I do not try it yet. From construction, Pro is same or very similar to RZN Tour Black / Platinum. Maybe you can try and compare it with your Nike balls.

I would like to try them, but cannot find them locally.  Don’t want to mail order a bunch of balls to try out…at least not yet.

Nike RZN Red was my last ball…

I but the bullet over the weekend.  Ordered some RZNs on Friday afternoon.  I’ll say, they got here quick.  Shipped out Monday from FL arrived in CA Wed.  A $60 order got me free shipping.

About me: I’m a 3-piece Ionomer ball guy.  I prefer a lower flight, with a bit less spin.  Since the Nike One Black was replaced, I have played 3 piece Nike balls.  With the RZN line I was fit to the RZN Red.  I don’t play Pro V1s out of principle.  Im not paying top dollar for a tour ball. I don’t need that level of performance, and they get them for free.  I shoot mid-high 80s.

I bought 2 doz of the RZN DISTANCE.  It has the typical specs, but unlike other 3 pc balls, this also claims a ‘piercing trajectory’. I also got a box of RZN FORCE which was for sale, but little info available.  It was also a 3 pc ball for $20 a dozen.  If I bought them, the $10 shipping was free…

They showed up, and I cut em open.  For science.  Along with an RZN Red…my take, the Force and the Distance are the same ball.  No noticeable differences.  They have a slightly larger core than the RZN Red, which is clearly different.

Nothing as far as playability.  Haven’t gotten them out yet…

No clue what their strategy is or was but they've had several balls not available on their "rzngolf" site that were available online at places like Walmart.  Could very easily just different stamps on the same balls for who knows what marketing/distribution reasons.

Any update on how do these play?

They're fine but, they're not the Nike RZN Tour Platinum / Black that so many of us like. I still haven't found a ball that I like as much as those.

I’m a big fan of the reds. Still gaming my last ones haven’t lost em

Maybe you can try RZN Pro, same construction as RZN Tour Platinum. Try it first before fly to Rio.

Played them early in the year, but played poorly, so ball evaluation was not top of mind.

Lasting impression, they are fine balls but not great.  Nothing about these balls jumped out, except maybe they are $20 a dozen.  Distance, fine.  Spin and spin control, fine.  Trajectory, a touch lower maybe, which I like. Fine.

I did pick up the Callaway Hex Tour from Costco, which I prefer.  Played those this weekend, and threw an RZN into the mix for giggles.  Par 3, over water, ~150 into the green.  Teed up the RZN, didn’t get great contact, but my impression…the ball felt HEAVY.  Not hard, not soft…heavy.  Like hitting a baseball with a tennis racquet.  Not sure where that comes from, but I seem to remember that from rounds early in the year too.  Not a great feeling.

Gonna stick to the Callaway balls, since I have 4 dozen of them…I wanted to like the RZN balls.  If they were easier to get, I might give them another shot.

Played the RZN MS-Tour yellow for a few early round. So it was cold and damp. Decent ball around the green, not the best, not the worst. But for me, very spinny off the driver. I can spin a drive with the best of them. Interestingly, this ball did convince me to put aside any urethane tour ball snobbery. I’m focusing now on a 2 piece straight distance ball. New Callaway Superfast was better for my game in my latest rounds.

theedge27

I have a few of the RZN Tour, which I think was the first model they introduced. Its a decent ball, but doesn't have that "soft click" that the OG Platinum had, and no other ball since has had. Gonna test it a little more the next few weeks against the Nike Platinum.

I too am in the ‘anti-urethane’ camp.  For both performance reasons and price…I don’t need it.  I eve shy away from the KSig balls because of the cover…

At some point I may have to reconsider, but not this year.

Yes, plus my home course greens are concrete like, so regardless of ball, I have to land short and let it release.

I tried HS and MS few years ago, I don't remember how they played but I think I quickly lost them because my swing was  💩 at the time. The feel was fine, but I think they had more side spin? Snell is a perfect feeling ball for me, so I never ordered more after that short lived experiment lol.

Ordered some RZN Pro over the weekend to try (not sure why), so I'll post something. I have access to launch monitor so I can get some numbers at least. But was wondering what the difference is between Pro and HS. Both are 4 piece, 3d resin core, micro dimples and urethane cover?

My swing was not great today but here's some numbers for RZN Pro.

My first impression was that it was brighter than their other balls I tried before. Maybe I don't remember well, but one of things that stood out was that MS and HS looked cheap and crappy.

Feel is fine, but it felt little bit heavier. Not sure if it's because of my striking not being at my best.

Looks like for today, it also spun the most for me which is good, don't like a lot of roll.

I'd need to play a round with it, but I think it's a ball I could play on regular basis 🤷‍♂️

RZN Distance Golf Ball Review

Rzn distance golf ball.

If the RZN name rings a bell to you, yes it IS that RZN. After producing Nike’s golf balls for five years and winning a whole bunch of big tournaments, RZN decided to take over the golf ball business and continue to bring their designs to the market following Nike’s departure from the golf equipment business. The RZN Distance golf ball discussed in this review is a three-piece ball with a special resin core and ionomer cover geared toward achieving maximum distance .

Feel 3

How Does it Feel?

While the RZN Distance golf ball certainly feels firm, it doesn’t feel the least bit clicky or hard. When you see the $19.99 price tag, that becomes even more impressive. Given the lower price tag and the firm feel off the tee, surely there must be a catch, right? I expected the feel to be a little too hard from the second shot on in, but was pleasantly surprised with how good it felt moving into the green. Admittedly, yes, the RZN Distance does feel on the more resilient side, but that’s not uncommon for a distance ball design. Around and on the greens, the ball had a nice medium feel to it which is what I prefer. Enough to actually feel the ball, but not so much it’s harsh on your hands.

RZN Distance Golf Ball 14

Off the Tee

To steal from my RZN MS-Tour review , if you look close in the photo above, you can see “Micro Dimples” within the dimples. This is designed to reduce air drag for better aerodynamics . Now, in the other review, I noted it was difficult for me to realize this impact as a result of the softer ball, however, I believe it was noticeable in the RZN Distance. Testing this ball second, I will admit to preconceived assumptions based on my control issue with the MS-Tour. From the first tee shot with the Distance, I noticed a huge difference. The ball was long and flew true off the tee. I had a much easier time controlling the ball and never felt like I was fighting to keep the ball in play. I would go so far as to say I even found this ball very impressive off the tee .

Approach 8

On the Approach

Now, it’s not uncommon for distance balls, especially “more affordable” distance balls, to be a little “pellety” on approach shots. To my pleasant surprise, the RZN Distance was perfectly fine. Like I mentioned in the feel section, there was just enough firmness to feel the ball but it was soft enough to still compress it . While it does firm up on faster swings (think long irons), I was still able to spin it on greens. In fact, I hit a sick 205-yard 5 iron on a par 3 that hit and zipped backwards. Not only was I very pleased to do this with a 5 iron (pretty uncommon for me), but my critical playing partner even expressed being wowed by my talents.

RZN Distance Golf Ball 13

Around the Green

RZN Golf used, as they say, a more resilient ionomer cover on the Distance ball so one might expect it to be a little hard around the green. In my experience, yes, it was a little firmer, but by no means clicky. Wedges will bite and check just fine if that’s your game , and will feel good unless you prefer marshmallow balls. Putting I’d say is about 65% on the firmness scale. I personally liked how the ball felt off of the putter.

As seen in the picture above, RZN put a larger alignment line on the ball. With so many golfers relying on lines and arrows these days, RZN took care of it for you. Sure, the marking typically comes down to preference, however the bigger and bolder line should make alignment easier. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I found the thinner outer lines to be a nice touch as well.

RZN Distance Golf Ball 1

Final Thoughts – RZN Distance Golf Ball

As mentioned in the other review, I don’t have much experience with the original RZN Nike balls. Therefore, I can’t really give an accurate RZN comparison for all you loyalists from back in the day. (I read the golf forums, I’m well aware of how many of you loved those golf balls.) What I can say is that for $20, the RZN Distance is a solid golf ball that performs pretty well in every aspect . For that price, it’s worth it for the tee game alone! Nike golf ball fans, try it out and let me know how it stacks up. I would love to hear what you think following my testing experience.

Hi Bill, Is Nike still the “maker” of these balls? Do they still have anything to do with them? Thanks.

' src=

Nike has nothing to do with it at all. It’s the company that was making the balls for Nike going back to 2006. Their history is on their website linked in the review.

' src=

Jerry, I am the Canadian distributor of the RZN golf ball. The reality is when it comes to the manufacturing of the ball Nike has the same role as they did previously……none. The factory who made the ball for Nike now makes it for themselves under the RZN name sans the swoosh. Nike is not involved in anyway at this time. DJH

Bought these as I still have 35 dozen of the Nike RZN in my closet. Tried out the RZN distance and colored me impressed. It was a colder AZ afternoon so ball wasnt traveling as far as it normally does but loved the way it come off the face of my irons and the sound was great. When I get this these pure with the driver it flew. Im talking out drove my buddies by a good 30yds plus. Around the greens not bad, but not great! Overall im happy with these and I will def be purchasing more-

Best Low-Spin Golf Balls 2024: Unlock increased distance

Published: 19 August 2024 Last updated: 22 August 2024

Best Low-Spin Golf Balls 2024

Best Low-Spin Golf Balls 2024

Instead of splashing out on new clubs in an attempt to increase your distance, why not switch to one of the best low-spin golf balls and watch the ball fly past your playing partners.

  • Best Low-Spin Golf Balls
  • Buying Guide

Playing with one of the best low-spin golf balls could be the answer to all of your problems on the golf course. If you struggle to keep the ball within the Earth’s stratosphere, generate optimum distance off the tee, or if your approach shots balloon into the air and fall out of the sky, it might not be the best golf ball for you. You should consider one of the best low-spin golf balls because it will give you the distance and lower ball flight you need.

Every golfer wants to find a happy balance between having a golf ball that flies far and high off the tee and chases down the fairway while also delivering a towering ball flight when hitting into greens and stopping on a dime – unless you have the ability of a Tour professional chances are you’ll struggle to find a perfect balance.

If you feel as though you generate too much spin off the tee and when attacking pins, so much so that it hinders the distance you’re able to produce, then playing a low-spin golf ball should help you achieve more optimum levels of spin to allow you to continue finding fairways and hitting and holding greens but with increased distance and ease.

One of my most used sayings when discussing golf balls is that spin is your friend because this applies to more golfers. There aren’t many average golfers who will need to play with one of the best low-spin golf balls, the majority of average golfers will probably benefit more from playing with one of the best high-spin golf balls . Whether you need to increase or reduce spin playing with one of the best golf balls for spin will undoubtedly help in your quest.

Best Low-Spin Golf Balls: Key models to consider

Best overall: Titleist AVX | View Offer

Best for slow swing speeds: Callaway Supersoft | Vie w Offer

Best soft-feeling: Wilson Duo Soft | View Offer

Best premium: TaylorMade TP5x | View Offer

Many of the best low-spin golf balls feature among the best distance golf balls and the best golf balls for beginners and high-handicappers because they incorporate fewer layers which hinders them from generating high levels of spin. If you’re looking to increase spin then the best premium golf balls are worth considering.

Another category of golf balls that tends to include more high-spin golf balls than low-spin golf balls is the best golf balls for mid-handicappers because they incorporate much of the technology found in the premium golf balls and they sport a three-piece or four-piece construction.

Finding value with low-spin golf balls is much easier than if you need to play with one of the best high-spin golf balls, not only because some of the best cheap golf balls also rank among the best low-spin golf balls, but also because they are quality golf balls at a very price. Some golfers do enjoy only playing with premium golf balls and you still can do so if you need a low-spinning model.

How we test the best low-spin golf balls

We test the best low-spin golf balls in the same way we test all golf balls which you can read more about on our page dedicated to tell you how we test golf equipment . What we’re looking for when testing golf balls to see if they can be classed as one of the best low-spin golf balls is primarily their ability to deliver distance while maintaining a penetrating ball flight.

While we carried out an extensive golf ball robot test in 2023 and a second golf ball robot test in 2024 that informed us which models are low-spinning at different driver swing speeds, with a 7-iron, and a pitching wedge, we still like to take the models out on the golf course and test them ourselves. As well as looking at spin, we’re also looking out for distance, control, durability, feel, sound, and any other parameters specific to individual golf balls.

The majority of golf balls are sent in to us by brands, but sometimes we need to source them ourselves, which we do in order to provide you with as much information and as many options as possible. So, when it comes to the best low-spin golf balls we’ve tested hundreds and shortlisted the best eight we know will definitely reduce your spin.

If you’re one of those golfers who’s constantly shouting at your ball to “go” or begging it not to fly into orbit then you should strongly consider one of the best low-spin golf balls. If after reading through our top picks of 2024 you’re still unsure as to which model will serve you best, read through our extensive buying guide and our answers to the FAQs at the bottom of this page.

  1. RZN MS-Tour Golf Ball Review

RZN MS-Tour Golf Ball. If the RZN name rings a bell to you, yes it IS that RZN. After producing Nike's golf balls for five years and winning a whole bunch of big tournaments, RZN decided to take over the golf ball business and continue to bring their designs to the market following Nike's departure from the golf equipment industry.

  2. Rzn Ms-tour Golf Ball Review

Posted on October 26, 2020. When I received the opportunity to review the RZN MS-TOUR golf balls I thought that the name rang a bell for some reason. Then I remembered, Nike! When Nike left the golf hard goods arena they left a lot of golfers bemoaning the loss of one of their favorite balls, the RZN. Well the good news is that RZN is back!

  3. RZN Golf Ball Review (Balls, Hot Topics, Review)

In a crowded market, RZN Golf still has something unique with their resin technology and 3D textured core and mantle. The HS-Tour and MS-Tour perform just as you'd expect for a high-level, premium ball, and I recommend giving them a trial. If you were already a fan of Nike's RZN golf ball, I have good news for you: they're back.

  4. RZN MS-Tour Golf Ball Review

RZN MS-Tour Golf Ball. When RZN Golf says the MS-Tour is a medium swing-speed three-piece ball, make sure you heed that advice. Going through the RZN online fitting system, it suggested the MS-Tour as my second option, and realistically, I should have gone with my intuition but I wanted to see how the recommendation worked out.

The RZN MS ball has a urethane cover and features 3D speed lock technology to help produce the distance golfers are looking for. Like the HS-Tour, the MS model has 13,558 micro-dimples to reduce drag and provide unrivalled carry and distances from the tee and with irons. The alignment line on the ball has been made bigger and easy to use than ...

The RZN brand has won over 50 tour events and continues to be an excellent choice in golf balls. We at GoGolfandTravel.com decided to give the two new models a test drive to see how they played. We tested the RZN Distance and MS-Tour balls to see if there really is a difference. We also used three other high-end golf balls to make some comparisons.

  9. Amazon.com: Customer reviews: RZN MS Tour Golf Balls (12 Pack)

I bought this ball because I was so satisfied with the spalding sd tour, and these are made in the same plant. The cover is the same on both balls, but the sd tour spun more like a pro v. Overall I enjoy the MS-Tour for the premium feel and the low spin forgiveness. Will purchase more if the price point is below $20/12

RZN MS-Tour.

  11. RZN MS Tour Golf Balls (12 Pack) Yellow

Honestly bought it as more of a joke/gimmick than anything else but it turned out to be a surprisingly good ball. I usually play Bridgestone Tour BX or Snell MTBX because they balance good speed with high spin from 120yd and in. I also play pretty windy and exposed courses, so I didn't expect much from this ball, especially being the spinnier ...

  17. 2020 RZN HS-Tour

Cons: This ball flies HIGH, like it's going into orbit and not coming back high. Lost distance on my longer clubs. 18. RZN? Anyone tryout the new ones

  20. RZN Distance Golf Ball Review

To steal from my RZN MS-Tour review, if you look close in the photo above, you can see "Micro Dimples" within the dimples. This is designed to reduce air drag for better aerodynamics . Now, in the other review, I noted it was difficult for me to realize this impact as a result of the softer ball, however, I believe it was noticeable in the ...
