Swatch Launches the Swatch Art Journey Watch Collection

art journey swatch

Watches are often called wearable works of art, but Swatch ’s efforts are more literal than metaphorical. Swatch has collaborated with the art world since 1985 to create its series of Art Special watches, often with great success. Now, Swatch announces a new chapter in the form of the Swatch Art Journey series, which will have five capsule collections released from mid-March to May. The Swatch Art Journey 2023 debuts with seven new masterpieces in its flagship Gent and New Gent models. Made in partnership with world-renowned art museums and foundations, these new Swatch x MoMA, Swatch x Magritte, Swatch x Le Gallerie Degli Uffizi, and Swatch x Louvre Abu Dhabi watches celebrate the work of Roy Lichtenstein, René Magritte, Sandro Botticelli, and Katsushika Hokusai.

The pair of Swatch x MoMA watches pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, who was famous for his comic-style art and single-color Ben-Day dots. The first is the Girl by Roy Lichtenstein, The Watch (ref. SUOZ352), which houses a recreation of the famous artwork Girl (1963) inside its blue 41mm New Gent case. The back of the watch, from plastic case to silicone strap, features a zoomed-in version that clearly shows the dots of the famed Ben-Day technique. The other Swatch x MoMA model is the Reverie by Roy Lichtenstein, The Watch (ref. SO28Z117), which brings together a canary-yellow 34mm Gent case, matching yellow strap, and the reproduction of Reverie (1965) on the dial. There’s also a speech bubble loop on the strap printed with the artwork’s text, “The melody haunts my reverie.”

Created in collaboration with the Fondation Magritte, the pair of Swatch x Magritte models highlights two iconic works from surrealist painter René Magritte and honors the 125th birth anniversary of the artist. The first of the duo is the La Trahison des Images by René Magritte watch (ref. SO29Z124), featuring the pipe from The Treachery of Images (1929) on the dial and the text “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.” on the strap. Swatch also playfully added “Ceci est une Swatch.” to the strap so together it reads, “This is not a pipe. This is a Swatch.” Next is the Le Fils de l’homme by René Magritte watch (ref. SUOZ350) with the bowler-hat-topped head and green apple-obscured face from The Son of Man (1964) printed across the dial, and the image carries on to the bottom of the case and throughout the lower strap. Both Swatch x Magritte New Gent models include loops imprinted with the painter’s signature.

The next pair of the Swatch Journey 2023 collection is the Swatch x Le Gallerie Degli Uffizi, featuring two of the most celebrated works by Italian Renaissance painter, Sandro Botticelli: Allegory of Spring (ca. 1480) and The Birth of Venus (ca. 1485). Though the original painting includes a group of mythology figures, The Allegoria Della Primavera by Botticelli watch (ref. SUOZ357) includes the depiction of Flora, the goddess of flowers, on the strap, accompanied by a fruit tree on the dial inside the New Gent case. The Nascita di Venere by Botticelli watch (ref. GZ360) has a smaller Gent case, which includes a portrayal of the gods of wind and breeze, Zephyr and Aura, on the dial while the face of Venus is on the strap.

The final watch is a Swatch x Louvre Abu Dhabi collaboration that combines Under the Wave off Kanagawa (ca. 1830–32) by Katsushika Hokusai and the Astrolabe (ca. 1726-1727) navigational instrument by Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Battûtî. The front of the Great Wave by Hokusai & Astrolabe watch (ref. SUOZ351) showcases a close-up portrayal of the cresting wave whereas the back is decorated with parts from the Astrolabe, a flat projection of a night sky once used to calculate stars’ positions and calculate exact time of day.

Creativity and approachability have always been at the heart of what Swatch has to offer. And these Swatch Art Journey watches for 2023 illustrate how the brand can playfully reinterpret a medium as serious and highbrow as fine art into something that just about anyone can own and enjoy.

As is customary for most Swatches, the Art Journey 2023 watches are powered by quartz movements and are water-resistant to 30 meters. The price for the smaller Swatch Art Journey Gent models is $95 USD  while the price for the larger New Gent variations is  $105 USD . The Swatch x MoMA and Swatch x Magritte watches will be available from March 16, 2023, while the Swatch x Le Gallerie Degli Uffizi and Swatch x Louvre Abu Dhabi watches will roll out on April 13, 2023. The Swatch Art Journey brings masterpieces to our wrists

The Swatch Art Journey

Taking icons from artists’ studios and museum walls to the daily life worldwide.

People never forget the first time they stood in front of one of the world’s most famous artworks; that feeling of a new world opening and creative sparks flying. Exciting things happen when art and the world of Swatch collide, and from the get-go, Swatch has found fresh ways to bring more art to people’s lives.

2023 marks the next chapter of the Swatch Art Journey, going big with five capsule collections released from mid-March to May. The entire range is like an adventure through different moments in art history, from Botticelli to Lichtenstein, and it couldn’t be any more signature Swatch if it tried with unexpected details.

Swatch recreates a whopping ten masterpieces in its signature GENT, NEW GENT, and playfully provocative style : all designed to celebrate artists who were unafraid to try new things.

  • Swatch x MoMA celebrates Pop Art and marks the 100th anniversary of Roy Lichtenstein’s birth.
  • Swatch x Magritte presents tributes to the surrealist artist in his 125th birth anniversary.
  • Swatch x LE GALLERIE DEGLI UFFIZI celebrates nature and femininity through the eyes and art of Renaissance supremo maestro Sandro Botticelli.
  • Swatch x LOUVRE ABU DHABI unites the energy of ‘The Great Wave Off Kanagawa’ by Hokusai with a majestic ‘Astrolabe’.
  • While the details of the final three Swatch Art Journey watches are firmly under wraps for now, Swatch hints that the next instalment of Swatch Art Journey will hit the sweet spot for street art fans.

The Swatch love affair with art started in 1985 with the first of a long line of Art Special watches. Always looking for new ways to democratise the art world, Swatch joined forces with the world-famous museums to recreate some of their most powerful artworks as part of a new Museum Journey series. Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (2018) and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid (2018) were the first venues to open their doors to Swatch, swiftly followed by the Musée du Louvre in Paris (2019), MoMA in New York (2021), and Centre Pompidou in Paris (2022).

The Swatch Art Journey Collection will be available as of March 16th, followed by another release that will be unveiled at a later stage.

Swatch x MoMA

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of pop artist Roy Lichtenstein’s birth

Pop art fans rejoice! Swatch has once again teamed up with MoMA, this time to honour legendary American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.  Two vibrant watches featuring artwork from MoMA’s collection blend his unique, comic-style art and single-color Benday dots with the playfulness and creativity of Swatch.

GIRL BY ROY LICHTENSTEIN, THE WATCH

Lichtenstein’s flair for innovation led him to design a rotating easel and his famous Benday technique that is on the reverse of this watch strap. The power of a smile is mesmerizing, and Swatch reproduces the famous artwork Girl (1963), with the blonde woman taking center stage.

REVERIE BY ROY LICHTENSTEIN, THE WATCH

Lichtenstein’s early enthusiasm for jazz music provided inspiration for a number of his iconic works, including Reverie (1965). The famous text on the artwork “The melody haunts my reverie” is on the speech bubble loop, while the canary yellow strap echoes the woman’s blonde hair.

Swatch x Magritte

Swatch x Magritte

Surrealist painter René Magritte is known for his dreamlike, imaginative aesthetic and evocative symbols (the bowler hat and pipes, to name a few). To mark the 125-year anniversary of the artist’s birth, two watches take his most famous paintings and translate them into wearable art for the wrist.

LA TRAHISON DES IMAGES BY RENÉ MAGRITTE

Wordplay was as important to Magritte as images, and his 1929 ‘The Treachery of Images’ is one of the famous examples. "Ceci est une Swatch” and the original artwork’s “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” is detailed on the strap. The playful packaging makes the whole experience a real surrealist one, bridging into Dada, and so totally Swatch.

LE FILS DE L’HOMME BY RENÉ MAGRITTE

Fun fact, Magritte’s most famous works were self-portraits, including the 1964 painting ‘The Son of Man’, which depicts the face of its bowler-hatted subject obscured by a hovering green apple. “Ceci est une Swatch avec une pomme” is written on the strap⎯a playful reference to the artist’s famous quotation “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.”

Swatch x LE GALLERIE DEGLI UFFIZI

Swatch x Le Gallerie degli Uffizi

The renowned Le Gallerie degli Uffizi, known by its rich collection of Renaissance masterpieces, may house both the ‘Allegory of Spring’ and ‘The Birth of Venus’ by the one and only Sandro Botticelli in the same room, but now people can wear both on their wrists!

NASCITA DI VENERE BY SANDRO BOTTICELLI

Designed to be hung above the marital bed, ‘The Birth of Venus’ (circa 1486) was so controversial it was kept behind closed doors for half a century! Swatch reproduces the texture of the original painting in amazing quality. On the dial are the gods of winds, Zephyr and breeze, Aura who gently drive Venus towards the shore-her unmistakably beautiful face and pink roses cover the strap.

ALLEGORIA DELLA PRIMAVERA BY SANDRO BOTTICELLI

Nature was a great source of rich inspiration for the Italian, his painting ‘Allegoria della Primavera,’ or ‘Allegory of Spring’ features at least 138 different species of plants, some of which appear on this Swatch. The strap features Flora, goddess of flowers, adorned with violets, cornflowers, wild strawberries, and myrtle, among the citrus trees⎯a timeless tribute to nature and beauty.

Swatch x LOUVRE ABU DHABI

Hokusai meets Astrolabe: one watch unites the work of two epochs and two masters.

In an unprecedented collaboration with the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Swatch releases one eye-catching watch where two worlds unite: the powerful and iconic Japanese artwork by Katsushika Hokusai and the renowned sophisticated Astrolabe artifact by Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Battûtî.

THE GREAT WAVE OFF KANAGAWA BY KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI & THE ASTROLABE

Hokusai goes to show that creativity has no deadline, as he was 60 years old when he designed his most famous print ‘Under the Wave off Kanagawa,’ part of the iconic Japanese series ‘Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.’ The challenging willingness of men to explore the oceans and infinity, to be face to face with the power of nature, water and the night sky envelop this Swatch in Prussian blue tones that comes straight from Hokusai’s artwork. On the dial and front side of the watch strap is a close-up image of the cresting wave that cleverly plays with perspective to make Japan’s grandest mountain appear as a small triangular mound within its hollow. The underside depicts elements from Astrolabe, a marvel of mankind, flat projection of a night sky used to help calculate the position of the stars and determine the exact time of day.

The Swatch Art Journey Enables Us To Wear Works Of Art On Our Wrists

The first encounter with one of the world’s most renowned artworks is an unforgettable experience that sparks creative inspiration and a sense of discovery. Swatch has consistently found innovative ways to infuse people’s lives with more art, and when the worlds of art and Swatch converge, exciting things happen.

In 2023, Swatch Art Journey continues with the release of five capsule collections from mid-March to May. The entire range is an adventure through various moments in art history, featuring iconic works from Botticelli to Lichtenstein, infused with unexpected details that are unmistakably Swatch.

Swatch pays homage to artists who dared to experiment with ten masterpieces in its signature GENT, NEW GENT, and playfully provocative style. The result is a celebration of creativity and originality that is quintessentially Swatch.

In 1985, Swatch began its love affair with art by launching the first of many Art Special watches. With a commitment to making art accessible to all, Swatch partnered with renowned museums to recreate some of their most iconic works as part of the Museum Journey series. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid were the first to collaborate with Swatch in 2018, followed by the Musée du Louvre in Paris in 2019, MoMA in New York in 2021, and Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2022.

SWATCH X MOMA Exciting news for Pop Art enthusiasts! Swatch and MoMA have joined forces once again to pay tribute to the iconic American Pop artist, Roy Lichtenstein. This collaboration features two dynamic watches that showcase Lichtenstein’s signature comic-style art and single-color Benday dots, fused with Swatch’s playful and creative design approach, using artwork from MoMA’s collection.

GIRL BY ROY LICHTENSTEIN, THE WATCH Lichtenstein’s flair for innovation led him to design a rotating easel and his famous Benday technique that is on the reverse of this watch strap. The power of a smile is mesmerizing, and Swatch reproduces the famous artwork Girl (1963), with the blonde woman taking center stage.

Swatch Art Journey

REVERIE BY ROY LICHTENSTEIN, THE WATCH Roy Lichtenstein’s early passion for jazz music served as a source of inspiration for many of his renowned works, such as Reverie (1965). The speech bubble loop on the artwork features the famous text, “The melody haunts my reverie,” while the canary yellow strap of the Swatch watch pays homage to the woman’s blonde hair depicted in the piece.

SWATCH X MAGRITTE Renowned surrealist painter René Magritte is celebrated for his unique and imaginative aesthetic, which features evocative symbols such as the bowler hat and pipes. In honor of the artist’s 125th birthday, Swatch has created two watches that transform his most iconic paintings into wearable pieces of art for the wrist.

LA TRAHISON DES IMAGES BY RENÉ MAGRITTE Magritte’s use of wordplay was just as integral to his art as his imagery, as evidenced by his famous 1929 piece, “The Treachery of Images.” Swatch pays tribute to this iconic artwork by featuring the text “Ceci est une Swatch” on the strap of the watch, a playful reference to the original’s “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.” The packaging for this collaboration is also whimsical and surreal, evoking the spirit of Dadaism and embodying the Swatch brand’s creative and playful ethos.

Swatch Art Journey

LE FILS DE L’HOMME BY RENÉ MAGRITTE It’s a fun fact that Magritte’s most recognizable works were actually self-portraits, including his famous 1964 painting “The Son of Man,” which features a bowler-hatted figure with a green apple hovering in front of his face. The strap of the Swatch watch features the playful text “Ceci est une Swatch avec une pomme,” which is a clever reference to the artist’s famous quote “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.”

SWATCH X LE GALLERIE DEGLI UFFIZI The esteemed Le Gallerie degli Uffizi, famous for its vast collection of Renaissance masterpieces, is home to both Sandro Botticelli’s “Allegory of Spring” and “The Birth of Venus,” which are displayed in the same room. However, with Swatch’s new collaboration with the museum, art lovers can now wear these iconic works on their wrists and appreciate them up close at any time.

NASCITA DI VENERE BY SANDRO BOTTICELLI “The Birth of Venus” by Botticelli, created around 1486, was initially considered so scandalous that it was kept hidden behind closed doors for fifty years. Swatch’s reproduction of this iconic painting on their watch is of exceptional quality, with the texture of the original painting being meticulously replicated. The dial features the gods of wind, Zephyr and Breeze, along with Aura gently pushing Venus towards the shore. The unmistakably beautiful face of Venus and pink roses adorn the strap of the watch, making it a wearable piece of art.

Swatch Art Journey

ALLEGORIA DELLA PRIMAVERA BY SANDRO BOTTICELLI Indeed, the natural world played a significant role in Botticelli’s art, and ‘Allegory of Spring’ is a prime example of this. The painting is believed to have been commissioned by the Medici family and was completed in the late 1470s or early 1480s. The Swatch version of the painting features Flora, the goddess of flowers, and the strap showcases a variety of flowers, including violets, cornflowers, wild strawberries, and myrtle, among others. This watch is a stunning tribute to the beauty of nature and Botticelli’s artistic vision.

Swatch Art Journey

SWATCH X LOUVRE ABU DHABI Swatch and Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collaboration brings together two distinct cultural icons: the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai’s celebrated woodblock print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, and the sophisticated astronomical instrument, Astrolabe, by Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Battûtî. This unique watch fuses the classic Japanese artwork with the intricate details of the astrolabe, creating a beautiful and fascinating design.

THE GREAT WAVE OFF KANAGAWA BY KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI & THE ASTROLABE Hokusai’s example proves that creativity knows no age limit, as he was 60 years old when he created his most renowned print, “Under the Wave off Kanagawa,” which is part of the famous Japanese series, “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.” The watch design draws inspiration from the courageous spirit of exploration that drives humanity to confront the vastness of the ocean, the power of nature, and the majesty of the night sky. The Swatch features shades of Prussian blue, reminiscent of Hokusai’s masterpiece. The dial and front side of the watch strap showcase a detailed image of the cresting wave, which plays with perspective to make Mount Fuji look small within its hollow. The underside of the watch depicts elements of the Astrolabe, a marvel of human invention, which is a flat projection of the night sky that was used to calculate the position of stars and determine the exact time of day.

Join Us on the Swatch Art Journey 2024 and See Where it Takes you

20th Aug 2024 New Delhi, Delhi, India   Art has the power to take us all to different places and amazing things can happen when you take the time to stop and look. This year, Swatch has partnered with the world-famous Tate galleries to bring more art to more people through this year’s Swatch Art Journey with a brand-new range of masterpieces for your wrist to choose from.

Swatch invites you to take your time with your masterpiece, join us on the Swatch Art Journey 2024 and see where it takes you.

The Swatch x Tate Gallery Collection reflects the essence of the Swatch brand in a way that none of its art collaborations have before. Our partnership represents a journey through time, genre and self-expression. The iconic artists and unique works chosen for this year’s collection reflect the boundary-pushing, innovation, positive provocation, and joie de vivre that Swatch is known for.

Swatch is also known for its long-standing love affair with art, bringing more art to more people, and giving wearers the time to express themselves through its unrivaled range of art-inspired watches. Tate is the perfect partner, known for its era- and genre-spanning collections and unique Tate Modern Lates program which invites everyone to be a part of the life of the museum.

By creating masterpieces for the wrist, Swatch is giving wearers the time to express themselves through their choice of watch – just as the artists expressed themselves through their works – to connect with others and start their own conversations.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Swatch and collaborating with a like-minded organization to create a series of watches that bring Tate’s rich and diverse collection to an ever-wider audience,” Hamish Anderson, CEO of Tate Enterprises.

Turner’s Scarlet Sunset JMW Turner is often described as ‘the father of modern art’ and is one of Britain’s greatest painters. His unique brushwork and use of color still surprise and delight today. His portrayals of the modern world were unlike any seen before. TURNER’S SCARLET SUNSET takes an iconic scene and focuses on the light and color throughout the whole watch. On the dial, the creative use of the calendar wheel brings additional depth, with the sun changing color across a 14-day period until the cycle begins again. Time spent with your Turner will take you seamlessly from sunrise to sunset.

Chagall’s Blue Circus Known as an early modernist, Marc Chagall’s style combined many different influences. Fascinated by the colorful chaos of the circus, he described it as, ‘a magic show that appears and disappears like a world.’ The whimsical characters of the circus inspired Chagall’s art throughout his life. CHAGALL’S BLUE CIRCUS brings the circus to life through the vivid and vibrant blue across the strap and dial. A moon and an eye balanced on the ends of the hands bring the dynamism of the acrobats to life. A moment of dream- like magic with CHAGALL’S BLUE CIRCUS could take you to the big top – and beyond!

Miro’s Women and Bird in the Moonlight Joan Miró was a Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist born in Barcelona. His distinctive style was influenced by Surrealism and other art movements of the era. Miró’s use of shapes and bright colors have personal and symbolic meaning, and his works often reflect Catalan pride and identity. MIRO’S WOMEN AND BIRD IN THE MOONLIGHT highlights the abstract and dials up the color with its joyful placement of the image across the dial and strap. Indexes printed on the glass stand out from the artwork adding depth and dimension. Whether the time you take to yourself is in the sunlight or the moonlight, Miró’s famous image will take you to your happy place.

Leger’s Two Women Holding Flowers Fernand Léger belonged to the avant-garde movement in Paris in the early 20th century where he was associated with Cubism. He later became inspired by modern life, machinery and technology and developed a boldly simplistic style based on the separation between color and line: color is scattered across different parts of the canvas, separate to the drawing itself. Leger’s Two Women Holding Flowers focuses on the bold and brilliant color, bringing it into full focus across the strap and dial. Three different colored hands bring additional brightness. Take a moment to yourself and your Léger will take you back in time.

Matisse’s Snail Henri Matisse, a French visual artist, helped revolutionize art in the early 20th century. In particular, he had a significant impact on painting. He created Fauvism, an influential bold style of painting using vivid colors and loose brushwork. In a career spanning over 50 years, his later works, including inventive paper cut-outs, are especially popular. Matisse’s Snail embraces the famous image on the dial, but also across the transparent strap. Cut loose and spend some time with Matisse’s famous cut-outs and see where it takes you.

Barns-Graham’s Orange And Red On Pink

British artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham’s paintings burst with rich colors and energetic, free-flowing brushwork. She wanted her art to express ‘a celebration of life…the joy and importance of color, texture, energy and vibrancy, with an awareness of space and construction.’ Her abstract works gradually became bolder and simpler, reflecting her love of living and life. Bold, black indexes are printed on the dial enhancing the powerful energy of this artwork. Barns-Graham’s Orange And Red On Pink reflects Swatch’s natural joie de vivre and invites you to take a moment to immerse yourself in a riot of color.

Bourgeois’s Spirals and Bourgeois’s Spirals Pay! Best known for her large-scale sculptures and installations, French-American artist Louise Bourgeois was also a skilled painter and printmaker who frequently used spirals in her works. For her, their outward movement symbolized ‘giving, and giving up control, trust and positive energy….’ Sit back, relax, focus on the positive energy and allow Bourgeois’s Spirals to take you away from it all. Wherever the spirals take you, there’s also a SwatchPAY!-enabled version available in selected markets that makes secure payments a simple flick of the wrist.

Swatch invites you to take your time with your masterpiece, join us on the Swatch Art Journey 2024 and see where it takes you.

Swatch Art Journey 2024

The Swatch x Tate Gallery Collection reflects the essence of the Swatch brand in a way that none of its art collaborations have before. Our partnership represents a journey through time, genre and self- expression. The iconic artists and unique works chosen for this year’s collection reflect the boundary pushing, innovation, positive provocation, and joie de vivre that Swatch is known for.

The Swatch x Tate Gallery Collection

Swatch is also known for its long-standing love affair with art, bringing more art to more people, and giving wearers the time to express themselves through its unrivaled range of art-inspired watches. Tate is the perfect partner, known for its era- and genre-spanning collections and unique Tate Modern Lates program which invites everyone to be a part of the life of the museum.

By creating masterpieces for the wrist, Swatch is giving wearers the time to express themselves through their choice of watch – just as the artists expressed themselves through their works – to connect with others and start their own conversations.

“ We are thrilled to be partnering with Swatch and collaborating with a like-minded organisation to create a series of watches that bring Tate’s rich and diverse collection to an ever-wider audience ,” Hamish Anderson, CEO of Tate Enterprises.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI- The Confluence Festival , celebrating art, music, science and technology, is returning to downtown Grand Rapids for its fourth year.

The free festival will take place Sept. 20-21 in Rosa Parks Circle, 135 Monroe Center St. Thousands of people descend on downtown every year for a diverse range of programming that includes esports, robotics and makers.

The event kicks off with an AI-powered opening night party that will feature art, music, tech, fashion and culinary experiences. The festival is also the capstone experience for Tech Week Grand Rapids - the collection of technology and innovation events designed to showcase region’s vibrant technology community.

“We’ve designed this event to really be engaging regardless of age, all the programing happens outside and happens at the same time. It becomes this journey of discovery,” said Brian Cohen, the festival’s executive director.

The new party offering an interactive journey through the region’s tech ecosystem is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the day is packed with events including a robotics expo and the innovation showcase with a Super Smash Bros Esports tournament.

Friday night is primarily focused on art and culture, and while organizers are still developing the lineup, will feature musicians such as Huff the Goat, School of Rock and DJ AB.

Kikcit, a social guide that personalizes, recommends, and rewards users for their vibe and one of the event’s sponsors, will also live launch its new social app opening day Friday and kick off Tribe Hunt, an outdoor riddle-based quest game with cash prizes.

Saturday will feature a number of different activities, such as the Super Smash Bros esports tournament, and the robot expo where middle schoolers and highschoolers are invited to test their robots in an obstacle course. A robot parade is also being held at 1 p.m.

Organizers are projecting thousands will attend the two-day event, expecting a bigger crowd than in previous years.

“It looks at innovation around the region and we are a platform to bring that innovation to the public and gives the public a better sense of what it is,” Cohen said.

There will be two food trucks at the event, Tamales Mary will be at the event both days, and Semifreddo will be at the event Friday. A bar will also be available featuring Titos Vodka.

In addition to kickit, some other event partners are Xfinity, Meijer, city of Grand Rapids, Tito’s handmade vodka and more. For more information, visit the event website here .

I Can’t Stop Wearing This Radiance-Boosting Nars Foundation

Unlike my peers who grew up in the infancy of Instagram, I was a late bloomer when it came to learning how to apply makeup; Urban Decay mascara was my lone staple through high school. By the time I reached my freshman year of college, it dawned on me that I had a lot of catching up to do. However, even though I was a beauty novice, I knew I had to find a base formula with a natural finish—which is where the Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation came in.

The Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation is an excellent base formula for a beginner.

My journey to finding the right foundation began on a trip to the Sephora near my tiny liberal arts college. As I wandered through aisles stacked with all sorts of foundation options, none caught my eye until I reached the Nars shelves: I was immediately drawn to the impressive shade range offered in the brand’s formulas for darker skin tones. (This was right around the time Fenty launched its iconic Pro Filt’r foundation with 40 shades, forever changing the game for foundation shade options—in part by challenging other brands to offer a similarly diverse lineup of colors.)

The Best Long-Lasting Lipsticks That Wear For Hours, Based On Testing

The best electric razors for men, based on extensive testing, nars natural radiant longwear foundation.

I am a New York-based editorial assistant working across the beauty, fashion, travel and home & kitchen categories. Prior to joining Forbes Vetted, I served in an editorial role at HarperCollins. My work has also been featured in Make Muse and The Common. I hold a bachelor's degrees in English and psychology from Amherst College, and attended the Columbia Publishing Course.

For product reviews, gift ideas, and latest deals, Subscribe to the Forbes Finds newsletter .

As a deputy editor, I edit, assign and write about all things beauty and grooming, from buzzy styling tools to celebrity skincare favorites. I’ve been a journalist covering style and travel for more than 15 years, and I’ve written about everything from the best international spas worth the long-haul flight to the art of French girl hair. My work has appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, Allure, NYMag, Teen Vogue, People, Afar and many more. Previously, I held senior editorial roles at Lucky magazine, NBC Universal and Cookie magazine. A California native, I majored in English and French literature at Amherst College and attended Columbia Journalism School.

I decided to try two of the complexion products (that have since become my go-tos): the Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation and the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer . A few shade swatches and a trip to the cashier later, I was on my way; Macao blended perfectly into my medium-brown skin. In those early days, I would spend mornings in my dorm room applying the foundation with my fingers, spreading it over my skin using gentle, circular movements. I eventually graduated to applying it with a makeup sponge to enhance how the formula melts into my skin, and two to three pumps are all I need to cover my entire face.

I’m impressed by how seamlessly the foundation layers on every single time: The serum-like formula smooths over my blemishes and hyperpigmentation spots so well that I sometimes can’t tell where my skin ends and the foundation begins. The finish is always subtle and slightly dewy. Even under bright lighting, it leaves my skin with—as its name would imply—an understated, radiant glow. On occasions when I do want lighter coverage, I’ll swap out the foundation for the tinted moisturizer to get a clean, skin-like finish.

Face before application of the foundation (left) versus after application (right).

Along with a natural finish, the product provides medium to full coverage that never feels heavy. (It also resists oxidation so the color doesn’t fade or become dull throughout the day.) Plus, it has a proprietary blend of raspberry, apple and watermelon extracts to help improve texture and smooth skin over time.

And it definitely lasts: With the correct setting spray , I’ve been able to get hours of mileage out of it in my sweltering Texas hometown, where sweating off your makeup is an extremely common occurrence. It’s also lasted me through all-day college courses and fun nights out in New York City during my twenties.

I can’t help but be grateful that amid all of the changes I’ve experienced over the last few years, this Nars foundation has been my one consistent tried-and-true formula. And it’s since served as a gateway to a bigger world of makeup: After mastering the art of the flawless base, I expanded my beauty repertoire by becoming familiar with concealers , blushes , eyeshadow palettes and more. Wherever my experimentation brings me, though, I always come back to my beloved Nars for its unmatched wear and finish: soft, seamless and always reliable.

Thoughts on The Thinker - How a journey to Copenhagen deepened my appreciation for Rodin’s masterpiece: Justice B. Hill

CLEVELAND, Ohio — I stood near The Thinker one day a while back. Nope, not the damaged statue outside the Cleveland Museum of Art in University Circle. I was at the version in Copenhagen, artwork that antiwar protestors in 1970 never tried to blow to smithereens.

The version outside the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek looked as Auguste Rodin sculpted it in the early 1900s. His artwork captivates all who view it, whether it’s the version here, in Philadelphia, Copenhagen, Paris or museums elsewhere.

From the Courtroom to the Classroom: My Journey of Academic Exploration at Occidental College

Norah Ruvalcaba!

Determined to make the most of her education at Occidental, Norah has blazed her way from Critical Theory & Social Justice classes to the Children's Law Center of California, gearing up for her next steps post-graduation.

As the daughter of not one but two judges, dinner conversations at my house were always...interesting. Imagine trying to discuss your day at school while your parents debate the constitutionality of your allowance! I knew I wanted to go to a college where I could have conversations that did not always revolve around new laws or the Constitution. That's where Occidental College came into play.

One of the biggest reasons I chose Occidental was the chance to explore my various intellectual interests. Here, in liberal arts fashion, students explore a multitude of subject matter, as everyone has until the end of their sophomore year to declare academic focus(es). While it was the Critical Theory and Social Justice (CTSJ) department that excited me most, eventually becoming my major, I had the chance to branch out, exploring various subjects from geology to bioethics. Whether it's a deep dive into philosophy ( Philosophy and Children ), a surprising interest in environmental science ( Injustice in the Law ), or even a history class ( Mexican Philosophy ) that alters or shifts your perspective about the world, Oxy's academic model allows students the flexibility and resources to pursue their passions and curiosities.

On campus, I’m more than a number. Professors know my name and want to support my learning, growth and future. I decided to become a CTSJ major because Professor Malek asked me to join the department while taking Intro to Critical Theory . He sensed my interest, and opened a door of possibility. The support network here is incredible. From study groups that turn into lifelong friendships to professors who double as mentors, the strong bond of community sets Oxy apart.

I am a member of the Law Society Club, where I have heard from recent alums as they navigate their journey in law school. As a member of Law Society, I’ve had the opportunity to join moot court and mock trial teams. Law Society offers LSAT prep support for students and hosts recent alumni to speak to current students interested in exploring a future career in law. The connections I’ve made with professors have given me the courage to seek and apply for opportunities in the legal field. Over the summer after my sophomore year, I worked for the Children's Law Center through Occidental's InternLA program .

As a part of the InternLA cohort, I spent ten weeks living on campus, learning about and preparing to enter the field of law. Perhaps most importantly, this internship sparked a specific interest in working in children's law. InternLA allowed me to explore my interests while also getting paid and making career connections in Los Angeles. After my internship concluded, I continued my exploration through classes within my major (CTSJ) and minor (Philosophy).

The skills I’ve developed at Occidental—critical thinking, effective communication, and a broad understanding of various subjects and how they intertwine—are essential in the context of legal work. Plus, pre-law advising at Oxy is top-notch, giving students the tools to navigate the law school application process with confidence. Pre-law advising is done through individual meetings with our official pre-law advisor, Marisol Leon, a civil rights attorney with the California Department of Justice. Her advice about honing in on what kind of law I want to pursue, as well as managing a busy schedule, has been invaluable. Pre-law advising also brings lawyers to campus to connect with students.

Over the past three years, I’ve stepped out of the courtroom-like atmosphere of my home and into a world of endless intellectual exploration. It's a place where I’ve grown, discovered new passions, and prepared myself for a career in law.

These oil paints are characterized by a perfect balance of primer and finished colors. Fine-grained, notable for their excellent lightfastness. These oils do not change their original colors after drying, so that they can be (and have widely been!) used in restoration works. Each tube has the opaqueness, lightfastness (*,**,***), and color (international code of the pigment used) indexes. Join Us on the Swatch Art Journey 2024 and See Where it Takes you!

Consumerinfoline.com

Art has the power to take us all to different places and amazing things can happen when you take the time to stop and look.

Bourgeois’s Spirals and Bourgeois’s Spirals Pay !

The Swatch x Tate Gallery Collection will be available in Swatch stores worldwide and on swatch.com from March 21, as well as in Tate’s gallery shops and on shop.tate.org.uk.

About Tate Tate celebrates the world’s greatest modern and contemporary art, as well as the best of British art from 1500 to today. Every year it welcomes millions of people to its four galleries – Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives – to enjoy unforgettable exhibitions, spectacular commissions and unique events. At the heart of these activities is a growing collection of over 70,000 works of art, ranging from paintings and sculptures to installations and performances. St. Petersburg Artist Museum-Exhibition Center

This private art gallery is located in part of a historic building on the Moyka River Embankment, a few steps from New Holland and the Mariinsky Theatre. With an apartment-like atmosphere, St. Petersburg Artist specializes in realist art from the second half of the 20th century. Exhibitions at the gallery change every few months, while the permanent exhibition is drawn from a substantial collection of works by artists from the Leningrad School of lyrical realism from the 1930s to the 1990s.

Combining the functions of a private gallery and a museum specializing in a somewhat neglected field of art, St. Petersburg Artist also hosts occasional concerts by local jazz and classical musicians.

The Swatch Art Journey brings masterpieces to our wrists

January 15, 2024

art journey swatch

Swatch recreates a whopping ten masterpieces in its signature GENT, NEW GENT, and playfully provocative style: all designed to celebrate artists who were unafraid to try new things. The Swatch Art Journey Collection will be available as of March 16th, followed by another release that will be unveiled at a later stage.

Swatch x MoMA celebrates Pop Art and marks the 100th anniversary of Roy Lichtenstein’s birth.

Swatch x Magritte presents tributes to the surrealist artist in his 125th birth anniversary.

Swatch x LE GALLERIE DEGLI UFFIZI celebrates nature and femininity through the eyes and art of Renaissance supremo maestro Sandro Botticelli.

Swatch x LOUVRE ABU DHABI unites the energy of ‘The Great Wave Off Kanagawa’ by Hokusai with a majestic ‘Astrolabe’.

The Swatch love affair with art started in 1985 with the first of a long line of Art Special watches. Always looking for new ways to democratise the art world, Swatch joined forces with the world- famous museums to recreate some of their most powerful artworks as part of a new Museum Journey series.

A Father’s Journey from Stroke to Son’s Wedding

The quick action of a UC San Diego Health nurse led to lifesaving neurosurgery that allowed Ronald Perley to watch his son get married

Ronald Perley, 66, a resident of Seal Beach, had been managing several significant heart health challenges: heart failure, multiple blood clots, a past heart attack, and persistent, irregular heart rhythm, known as atrial fibrillation (AFib).

In February 2024, Perley was transferred from a Newport Beach hospital to a multidisciplinary team at UC San Diego Health to receive specialized treatment for heart failure and AFib.

While brushing his teeth in his patient room, a nurse noticed that the left side of his face was drooping — a clear sign of a stroke.

“I was unable to raise my left arm and leg,” Perley said. “I don’t think I fully understood the significance of what I was going through in the moment.”

{/exp:typographee}

The nurse immediately called a stroke code and Perley was rushed for imaging.

The results confirmed an ischemic stroke, which is caused by a clot obstructing the flow of blood to the brain. Further evaluation revealed that the stroke was caused by Perley’s pre-existing conditions unrelated to the care he was receiving in the hospital.

David Santiago-Dieppa, MD, vascular neurosurgeon at UC San Diego Health, performed a mechanical thrombectomy on Perley. This emergency and minimally invasive procedure involves specialized instruments to remove a clot from the brain to restore blood flow following an ischemic stroke.

“Rapid intervention is crucial in stroke cases as every second counts,” said Santiago-Dieppa, assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at University of California San Diego School of Medicine. “By quickly identifying the stroke and performing the clot removal, we significantly reduced the potential long-term impacts on Mr. Perley’s health.”

UC San Diego Health is the only health system in the county with two sites for comprehensive stroke care at both Hillcrest Medical Center and Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla. The Comprehensive Stroke Center at Hillcrest Medical Center was the first of five in the nation. Both centers are led by a multidisciplinary team of stroke experts, including neurologists, neuro-intensivists, neurosurgeons, cardiologists and rehabilitation therapists.

With stroke specialists available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to provide an immediate response, UC San Diego Health experts use advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies to provide personalized therapy for each patient, leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer hospital re-admissions.

“Our Comprehensive Stroke Center at UC San Diego Health is uniquely equipped to receive and treat the most challenging stroke cases,” Santiago-Dieppa said. “With a specialized neuro-intensive care unit dedicated to stroke patients, we excel in performing advanced neurovascular procedures, such as the surgery that saved Mr. Perley.”

Every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke and every four minutes someone dies from stroke, according to the American Heart Association (AHA). Recently, UC San Diego Health was again recognized by the AHA’s Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and is listed on their Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll for providing the highest quality of care to patients using research-based guidelines in the treatment of heart disease and stroke.

Perley made a remarkable recovery following his successful neurosurgery and quickly regained his strength. Within a few days, his care team evaluated his progress from both his stroke and heart condition and determined he was ready to be discharged from the hospital, just in time for his son's wedding that evening.

“The UC San Diego Health staff did a magnificent job and went above and beyond to ensure I could attend the wedding,” Perley said. “They made certain that I was healthy and confident to be present for such a special day with my family.”

Perley left the hospital in style. Picked up in a stretch limousine surrounded by his family and colleagues, he was wheeled out of the hospital in a grand exit.

The wedding, which happened to take place approximately ten minutes from the hospital system that saved his life, was a significant milestone for Perley. At the reception, he delivered an emotional speech filled with gratitude and joy. He credits the quick action of the nurse and the entire medical team who made all the difference in his care.

“Their efforts turned what could have been a cloud over the event into a sunny and memorable celebration,” Perley said.

His recovery has continued to progress well after the wedding festivities and beyond the neurosurgery.

Perley began therapy at the Step Family Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at UC San Diego Health as part of his ongoing heart care. Gradually increasing his daily walking distance, he began to see improvements in his heart health.

Perley’s advice to others facing similar health challenges is simple but powerful: "Surround yourself with the best medical team and maintain a positive attitude." Perley stresses the importance of mental and physical support during recovery.

“His journey from experiencing a severe stroke to giving a speech at his son's wedding days later is extraordinary,” Santiago-Dieppa said. “His story highlights the power of swift medical intervention, a supportive, compassionate environment and the resilience of a father’s fight to be there for his family. As Mr. Perley continues his recovery, his story serves as an inspiration, showing that with determination and dedicated, high-quality care, remarkable recoveries are possible.”

According to the 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” survey, UC San Diego Health ranked No. 1 in San Diego and received “Honor Roll” designation, a distinction awarded only to 20 hospitals in the national for exceptional care. Neurology and neurosurgery care ranked 22nd and heart and vascular ranked 27th out of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

"With a specialized neuro-intensive care unit dedicated to stroke patients, we excel in performing advanced neurovascular procedures, such as the surgery that saved Mr. Perley."
