In a 2022 announcement postponing the rescheduled dates, Dion described her battle with the rare ailment, which affects approximately one in a million people.

In a video message posted on Instagram, Dion said the disorder was causing spasms that affect her ability to walk and sing. “While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having. Unfortunately, the spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”

Earlier this year the U.K. and Europe legs of the tour were postponed for the third time, to February 2023, while the U.S. leg of the tour was cut short. At the time, Dion cited health issues but did not disclose a diagnosis.

Celine Dion is once again postponing a leg of her Courage World Tour amid an ongoing health issue.

“I’m so sorry we have to change our tour plans for Europe one more time; first we had to move the shows because of the pandemic, now it’s my health issues causing us to postpone the shows,” Dion said in a statement posted to her website on Friday announcing her European dates were rescheduled.

In her message to fans, Dion directly gave a more detailed update about her condition, which she has previously identified as severe and persistent muscle spasms, promising that she is doing her “very best” to get back to being performance-ready.

“I am doing a little bit better … but I’m still experiencing some spasms,” she said. “I need to be in top shape when I’m on stage. I honestly can’t wait, but I’m just not there yet… I’m doing my very best to get back to the level that I need to be so that I can give 100 percent at my shows because that’s what you deserve.”

The European leg of the world tour was scheduled to start on May 25 in Birmingham, England and end on Sept. 24 of this year. It will now begin Feb. 24, 2023, in Prague, with performances running through Oct. 4, 2023.

The musician had completed the first 52 North American shows of her world tour before March 2020, when the pandemic shut down the live entertainment industry. Since the pandemic delay, Dion has pushed back both her Las Vegas residency and the North American leg of her Courage World Tour.

In October 2021, the award-winning singer delayed her Vegas residency — initially scheduled for dates in November 2021 and January and February of 2022, and then, in January of this year, Dion canceled the North American dates of her global tour, which had been scheduled to kick off on March 9. There’s been no announcement yet on when the residency or North American dates will be rescheduled.

Céline Dion has once again been forced to cancel a wide swath of concert dates due to her ongoing battle with a rare neurological disease . On Friday morning (May 26), the singer posted a lengthy note to fans announcing that she is canceling the remaining European shows on her 2023-2024 European Courage Tour after previously rescheduling them.

The affected dates included a planned run of 2023 shows in Amsterdam, Paris, Antwerp, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki that were slated to take place from late August to early October, as well as 23 European shows booked for March 6-April 22. Tickets purchased for the 42 canceled dates will be refunded through the original point of purchase.

The announcement noted that as the world has moved on after the COVID-19 lockdown, Celine has “continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing. Celine is working hard on her recovery, but at this time is unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour… We do have every hope that someday soon, Celine will be able to come to all of these cities in Europe to perform for her amazing fans, but that time simply is not now.”

Dion had performed the first 52 dates of the Courage tour in North America before the pandemic paused it in March 2020. She was then diagnosed with a rare condition called Stiff Person Syndrome, which her team said causes severe and persistent muscle spasms that have prevented her from performing.

In December 2022, Dion pushed all her 2023 dates into 2024, and canceled them entirely before initially vowing to reboot the European portion of the tour this summer.

Celine Dion Cancels the Remainder of Her World Tour

The pop star, who announced in December that she was suffering from a rare neurological condition, said she was “working really hard to build back my strength.”

The powerhouse pop superstar Celine Dion announced Friday morning on social media that she was canceling the remainder of her Courage World Tour through April 2024 in order to focus on her recovery from a rare autoimmune and neurological disease.

Dion, 55, first shared publicly that she was grappling with the medical condition — called stiff person syndrome , which causes progressive stiffness and severe muscle spasms — in an emotional Instagram video that she posted in December 2022 , as she canceled or postponed a number of tour dates.

“I am so sorry to disappoint all of you once again,” Dion said in the statement on Friday. “I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100 percent. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back onstage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up … And I can’t wait to see you again!”

The remaining 2023 tour dates had been scheduled to run from Aug. 26 in Amsterdam through Oct. 4 in Helsinki, Finland; then from March 6, 2024, in Prague through April 22, 2024, in London. Tickets purchased for the canceled dates can be refunded via the original point of sale, according to the statement.

Before the pandemic paused Dion’s tour in March 2020, she had completed the first 52 dates of the tour, in North America. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I am used to,” she said in the video posted last year.

Dion can be seen in her first feature movie role, alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan, in the romantic comedy-drama “Love Again,” which was released this month.

After the announcement of her illness last year, Dion, known for her renditions of ballads like “Because You Loved Me” and “My Heart Will Go On,” was met with a remarkable outpouring from fans , particularly in Quebec, the French-speaking Canadian province where Dion was born.

Celine Dion reveals rare neurological disorder diagnosis, cancels 2023 tour in emotional video

The singer broke down while announcing that she has stiff-person syndrome: "Unfortunately, the spasm affects every aspect of my daily life."

Celine Dion has revealed in an emotional video that she's been diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that has forced her to cancel her upcoming 2023 Courage World Tour dates.

"I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything I've been going through," the 54-year-old singer said Thursday in an Instagram video. "Recently I've been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome [SPS], which affects something like one in a million people."

She continued, "While we're still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what's been causing all of the spasms that I've been having. Unfortunately, the spasm affects every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I'm used to."

Dion — who previously postponed her 2022 Courage concert dates over "persistent" medical issues — confirmed that the diagnosis means she won't be able restart the tour in Europe as planned.

"I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better and my precious children, who are supporting me and giving me hope," she said, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again. But I have to admit, it's been a struggle. All I know is singing. It's what I've done all my life, and it's what I love to do the most. I miss you so much. I miss seeing all of you, being on the stage, performing for you."

She concluded, "I always give 100 percent when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give you that right now. For me to reach you again, I have no choice but to concentrate on my health at this moment, and I have hope that I'm on the road to recovery. This is my focus, and I'm doing everything that I can to recuperate."

In addition to halting her Courage tour in January 2022, Dion's "severe and persistent muscle spasms" delayed the singer's planned return to her Las Vegas residency in October 2021.

According to Yale Medicine , SPS is an autoimmune and neurological disorder that leads to rigidity and spasms in the torso and limbs.

Dion initially began her Courage tour in Canada in September 2019, and continued through to a pair of performances in New Jersey in March 2020. She was set to relaunch the tour in Prague in February ahead of an eight-month run through Europe.

The show was amazing. It was the very first time that I saw her live and I was honestly blown away. She sounds sooo good live! And I loved the fact that she interacted with us, and cracked some jokes and she honestly went from being this amazing super star to a human being I could relate to. Her performances, the outfits, the songs, the new album, the musicians and singers that were with her... everything was amazing. I had an awesome time.

She gets the audience signing and swaying and crying! She has a band and orchestra. Multiple seamless costume changes. She is also HILARIOUS. She had a few jokes to share with the crowd and had a way of making everyone feel important. She sang one of her songs in French. The emotion she put behind the song had everyone crying with the beauty.

Grammy-nominated singer, Broadway actor Melba Moore performing at Stark Urban League event

• Broadway and singing legend Melba Moore will be performing Thursday at the Cultural Center for the Arts in downtown Canton.
• The Grammy-nominated Moore will present a one-person play about her life, "Still Standing."
• Tickets cost $79.50 and are available online through the Greater Stark County Urban League.

CANTON ‒ Melba Moore will tell her inspiring life story through song when she performs Thursday in Stark County.

The 78-year-old Grammy nominee, Broadway actor and renowned vocalist will present "Still Standing," featuring musical medleys and some of her most famous songs, at the Cultural Center for the Arts as part of a Greater Stark County Urban League event.

"It's definitely going to be fun," she said Wednesday during a telephone interview.

The performance will touch on different aspects of her life, including her music, career, childhood memories, Hollywood, stardom, breaking barriers, and love and triumph.

"I know what it was like to have a broken family and then to have a good family and to have a family with musicians," Moore said.

Songs will include her Aretha Franklin cover, "Lean On Me," Whitney Houston's, "You Give Good Love" and "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" by R&B duo McFadden & Whitehead.

The performance, split into two acts with an intermission, will be about 90 minutes.

"It's a one-woman play with music," she explained. "'Still Standing' is my autobiography with music, so it's basically a short version of my life story.

"I think you'll enjoy it," Moore added. "You'll be informed by it."

The dinner theater event is 5 to 10 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Cultural Center for the Arts 1001 Market Ave. N.

The special event supports the Margaret "Joan" Gillespie Endowment Fund.

Songs include 'Lean On Me,' 'Falling' and 'Love's Comin' at Ya'

As a recording artist known for her stratospheric range and soulful delivery, Moore has released a range of music over the decades, including R&B, contemporary soul, pop, jazz and gospel.

Grammy nominations include "Lean On Me."

She charted R&B hits in the '70s and '80s, including "Love's Comin' at Ya" and "Love the One I'm With (A Lot of Love)." Other popular songs of hers include the chart topper "Falling," as well as "A Little Bit More" and "This Is It."

In 2023, the powerhouse singer released the R&B and soul album, "Imagine," featuring "So In Love," "Can't Stop The Rain" and "It Seems To Hang On." Earlier this year, she released the beat heavy hip-hop number, "Not Too Late (Big Herb Remix)," featuring Michael Dearing, Sparky D and T-Huny."

Asked what drives her to still perform today, Moore said it's a calling.

"It basically means God is inspiring you to do this, and that's the perspective," she said. "I approach it from God is first in my life. He's like a person coaching me."

Moore starred on Broadway in 'Hair' and 'Purlie'

Crossing mediums and genres, Moore emerged in the 1960s with a Broadway role in "Hair." Her vocals also shined in the production, including on the songs , "Good Morning Starshine," "Ain't Got No" and "I Believe in Love."

Standout stage work also includes her Tony Award-winning performance in the musical "Purlie." She also was the first African-American woman to perform the role of Fantine in "Les Misérables."

Moore also had a role on the the popular television show "Falcon Crest" from 1981-1990

Moore gets a star on the Walk of Fame: 'All I could is cry'

Those achievements and breakthroughs led to her receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023.

"I'm not used to having these kinds of experiences," Moore said. "That means it's permanent, it's there as long as Hollywood is. All I could do is cry."

Moore said her singing voice has been refined as she's aged.

"What I realize is the whole mechanisms change as you get older," she said. "So you have to make changes, so I'm making them, but I think I'm getting better. The technique, the quality of my performance, it's getting better."

Whether decades past or today, female vocalists continue to inspire, she said.

Moore is a fan of modern vocalists such as Celine Dion and Beyoncé .

"Celine Dion is ridiculous," Moore raved. "She can sing anything. She can sing that song from the movie, 'Titanic,' and then she'll get up and sing an Aretha Franklin song."

"Another one I'm a really great fan of is Beyoncé ," she said. "She's cute and everything, (but) that's the ridiculous thing as an artist. She's a great entertainer and entrepreneur and businessperson. So I really admire her."

"They're off the chain," she said of modern female singers. There are "really, really, really good quality singers and musicians. It's a wonderful time to be a teenager and to get into new artists."

Ces dernières années, Céline Dion s’est montrée plus discrète en raison de sa lutte contre le syndrome de l’homme raide. Le montant de son onéreux traitement a été dévoilé par Le Parisien , qui a échangé avec une Saône-et-Loirienne atteinte de la même maladie.

Au printemps 2024, Céline Dion faisait un come-back remarqué dans le magazine de mode Vogue France , après s’être montrée discrète pendant plusieurs années, en raison de son combat contre la maladie, le syndrome de l’homme raide . Celle qui a brillamment interprété L’Hymne à l’amour d’Édith Piaf lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture des JO de Paris 2024 confiait qu’il était "dur moralement de vivre au jour le jour" . La diva québécoise n’est pas la seule à souffrir de cette pathologie. Une Saône-et-Loirienne de 46 ans, qui en est atteinte, s’est longuement confiée à ce sujet auprès du Parisien , samedi 24 août. Lors de cet entretien, repéré par le site PurePeople , cette maman de quatre enfants, atteinte depuis 2021 de ce syndrome qui affecte une personne sur un million et qui engendre des spasmes douloureux dans tout le corps , atteignant aussi les cordes vocales, a levé le voile sur le coût du traitement.

"Il n’y a pas grand-chose à faire en cas de crise. Il faut la rassurer et lui donner du valium" , a expliqué l’époux de cette femme, prénommée Sandrine, à nos confrères. Un médicament dont Céline Dion dispose sous la forme d’un spray nasal, et non d’un comprimé, ce qui le rend beaucoup plus facile à absorber. La mère de famille aimerait énormément pouvoir l’obtenir sous la même forme, mais il n’est disponible qu’aux États-Unis... et surtout, il est extrêmement onéreux. "C’est 800 euros la dose, nous n’avons pas les moyens" , regrette-t-elle auprès du quotidien régional. Désireux de lui venir en aide, les proches de la Bourguignonne ont lancé une cagnotte Leetchi. Émouvante, la quadragénaire qui habite à Saint-André-en-Bresse a révélé que, si elle continuait à se battre, c’était grâce à l’amour de ses enfants. Un témoignage précieux qui illustre à quel point cette pathologie est encore méconnue.

C’est en 2022 qu’Irene Taylor, la réalisatrice, a débuté le tournage. À une époque où personne, encore, ne savait de quoi la chanteuse souffrait. Au moment d’en assurer la promotion, la cinéaste avait donné des nouvelles rassurantes de la chanteuse à la presse. "Elle se sent mieux. Elle est plus confiante maintenant qu’elle a les soins dont elle a besoin , avait-elle assuré. Le fait d’avoir mis un nom sur sa maladie a tout changé pour elle."
