Non-Rev, ID90, ZED, Interline, Standby: What's the Difference?

When starting your career at an airline, you will probably soon hear one of these terms: non-rev , ID90 , ZED , Interline travel , or staff travel . What is it, and what are the differences?

First of all: basically, they all mean the same: your staff travel benefit . Their origins and terms may differ a bit.

What is Staff Travel?

Airlines around the world participate in multilateral agreements. Airlines that are part of alliances like Star Alliance, SkyTeam, or OneWorld all have these agreements with each other. In the United States, this is often referred to as Interline travel. This is a voluntary agreement between airlines that enables their employees to travel on other airlines for discounted rates. Interline travel benefits are often available to employees, spouses, parents, dependent children, and retirees of the airlines. The catch is that you will only get a seat if there is one available on the plane. If the plane is fully booked, you’re out of luck, and you’ll have to catch another flight.

Depending on where you live, this benefit is often called non-rev, ID90, ZED, or staff travel.

As you can read in our blog post about non-rev travel ,  non-rev stands for  non-revenue . This terminology is mostly used in the United States and is often referred to as ID90. ID is short for Industry Discount; 90 refers to a 90% discount. You may also come across ID80, ID75, or ID50 tickets, which all have their specific terms. Read more about that here .

If you live in Europe, you might come across the term ZED or Zonal Employee Discount. This is a multilateral agreement created in 1994 by Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Malév Hungarian Airlines, and SAS. These days, over 170 airlines are participating in this agreement. Employees of these airlines can fly with the participating airlines for reduced rates. Compared to ID90, these rates are often higher. In The Netherlands, where StaffTraveler is based, we refer to this benefit as IPB. This abbreviation of ‘Indien Plaats Beschikbaar; translates to the best summary of what it is all about if a seat is available. As mentioned before, this is the downside of staff traveling. The days of having to be the family travel agent or sharing your work password are behind you! With ID90 Travel, you are able to grant access to the flight listing system to anyone that you share flight privileges with from your Pass Department.

Sharing Non Rev Access Is Simple

Log in to ID90 Travel and go to your profile

Select the Eligible Travelers option to view all the people with flight privilege eligibility from your employer

Enter that person’s email address and send an invitation. Once they create an account, they'll gain access to book non-rev flights through ID90 Travel's website and mobile apps.

What is an Eligible Traveler?

Eligible Travelers are those family members, partners, and close friends you’ve designated to share non-revenue flight privileges with. You can book on behalf of your eligible travelers under “Other Passengers” when booking a non-rev ticket.

I think there is someone missing from my Eligible Traveler list. How do I add someone?

ID90 Travel can only display the people your employer tells us have access to your flight privileges. If you feel someone is missing, please contact your employer to have them update your Eligible Travelers.

Why should I give my Eligible Traveler access to book their own flights?

Managing travel plans for others can be a pain. We found many airline employees felt the same — they didn’t want to be their Eligible Traveler’s full-time travel agent. Giving your Eligible Traveler access will remove you from the equation while giving them all the information they need to make an informed decision.

Can I give access to Eligible Travelers via the ID90 Travel app?

Unfortunately, not at this time. We’re actively working on making this feature and many others available in the mobile app in the near future.

Can I give access to all of my Eligible Travelers?

You can give access to any eligible travelers over the age of 18.

Can I remove someone’s access from booking their own flights?

Yes! Removing access is just as easy as granting it. You can go to the Eligible Traveler section of your profile and click the “Remove Access” button on that travelers card and they will no longer be able to book their own flights.

Please note this does not remove a person from your Eligible Traveler list or cancel any flights they currently have booked. To remove a person you will need to work with your employer to update your list of eligible travelers.

Why am I not seeing my buddy pass travelers on my profile?

Your list of Eligible Travelers only shows the people listed with your employer. Any buddy pass (or similar program) travelers will not be displayed here. You will still be responsible for booking travel for these pass travelers.

I added the wrong email address. Can I update the contact information for that Eligible Traveler?

Yes. Before an invitation is accepted, you will see the "Give Access" button updated to "Resend Access." Clicking on this will ask you to provide a new email address and give you the opportunity to add the correct contact details.

Will Eligible Travelers be able to view non-rev policies such as Dress Codes?

Yes, all Eligible Travelers will be able to see the non-rev policies for each airline they book with. The policies are listed both in the trip itinerary and in the confirmation email.

Always Reliable, User Friendly and Very Efficient

I have found this app to be the most user friendly out of all 100+ work websites I have been given! Although, ID90 Travel offers a more limited selection of airlines compared to MyIdTravel, it’s the accessibility and user friendliness of ID90 that wins me over time and time again. I actually find myself quite disappointed if I’m having to fly an airline that falls under MyIDTravel simply because it just doesn’t live up to my standards that ID90 has provided me since 2014. ID90 allows not only myself to list quickly, but as well as my travel companions. This app also allows quick booking for buddy passes and/or to check loads. Even refunds for bookings that went unused were easy and quickly resolved. So in addition to the above and to ultimately making my family and I’s flying life easier, ID90 also makes renting a car and booking a hotel just as convenient. Despite what other apps for hotels or car rentals that are suggested to me, I always use ID90 everytime. It’s easy, efficient and less hassle! Hotel didn’t match pictures or description

Other then being a block from Times Square. I’m not sure anything at this hotel was what we expected. Sound proof rooms. I thought was a weird thing to have as a room description. We could hear EVERYTHING going on in rooms next to us from babies crying to the casual conversation between 2 British ladies that kept us entertained. Our heads bouncing off the headboard from the kids jumping on the beds in next room. Till very late. No balcony per room description. Deadbolt missing from door between adjoining rooms. Wallpaper dirty and pealing from walls. Spray coating on bottom of tub pealing. Clock radio on nightstand just for decoration because it had no cord to plug it in. Waking up first night freezing … heater wasn’t working. Called next morning and they said someone would be up to ck out. Never came. Around 12-1 pm freezing (63 deg in rm)and hungry we got dressed and stopped by front desk on way out. They seemed confused for a minute,made a call and said. Oh they couldn’t fix it and we will need to change rooms. Changed rooms. Not any better. Even had a loud continuous noise that I think was Heating/ ventilation unit on roof running and vibrating. We questioned a few things with the front desk and was told this the basic room and we pd discount prices.

Just make sure to check all your options available and scroll through each option along side its description of what accommodations include. As you think prices only get higher going down, sometimes you find the best offering of room+accommodations 1/10th the price. Definitely recommend!!
