10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families

10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families 1

Camping with a large family can be a fun experience. However, it can also be quite challenging to make sure that everyone has their own space without being too crowded. With such a wide variety of styles and brands on the market, which ones are the best for larger families?

You also need to take into consideration how big your family is. Whether it be 4, 6, or even 10 people you need to accommodate, here are 10 travel trailers that are great for that large family.

Some of these are pricier than others. They also vary greatly in size and layout. Remember, there’s not a one size fits all travel trailer that works for every family. Look at your family’s needs, what you want to spend, and the size range that you are wanting. After all, what you consider essential may not be the case for the next family.

These trailers will require a large truck to haul. Most of these will weigh at least 8000 lbs. dry. Once you load it up with water and all your supplies, you could easily be looking at a load exceeding 10, 000 lbs. Something like a Ford F250, F350, F450 or Ram 2500, Chev Silverado 2500HD, or a Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan is something you will want to consider. Remember that when it comes to towing a Diesel will tow more than a gas counterpart. Do your research, you will want to make sure you have a little more room in the towing than to max it out at what the truck can handle in towing .

Here are some of the 10 best travel trailers for large families on the market today. We’ll go over the best features as well as what we liked and disliked about each.

When deciding which trailer will be the best fit for your family, you need to first determine how much your truck can tow and how big of an area you can store it. It is also a good idea to come up with a budget. These can get expensive fast. You would hate to fall in love with one unit just to find that you can’t feasibly make the purchase.

I like the budget friendly, Jayco Jay Sport 12UD. It is the smallest travel trailer that we are going to look at today. This is a tent-style trailer meaning that it is not only lightweight, but it will also fold down small while in storage. There are 2 large beds on either end of this trailer that both folds out when set up. It is also unique in that it has two different dinettes-a standard one and a u-shaped one. Both of these fold down into additional sleeping space.

Another great feature of this is its weight or lack thereof. This can easily be towed by smaller SUVs. You will also have a much easier time seeing around you and backing it up. If you are worried about bears, I suggest checking out this link . It has a lot of great information and tips to help keep you safe.

The Shasta Oasis is another small unit with big potential. The length is only 22’5″ making this a great candidate to fit into smaller sites. For this reason, I think this is suitable for a wider range of areas and campsites that you can visit without needing to worry about fitting. Not only this, but it is also the most lightweight and can be pulled with a smaller, half-ton truck or a larger SUV. There is a 60 X74 master bed located at the front of the trailer as well as a dinette the converts into a bed. This is a bunk model with 2 small beds of 26X74 at the back.

This is a base model of camper when compared to many others. Due to this, I found the price to be quite a bit lower than other trailers. However, this can make the areas squishier when housing 4 or more occupants. You may also want to consider a campsite with sewer hookups if you are wanting an extended stay. If you are just starting out and are unsure of how your sewage system works check out How To Dump Your Dark & Grey Water Tanks In 21 Easy Steps.

This Keystone camper has a layout different from any other travel trailer. The master bed comes in a king size giving you plenty of room to stretch out at night. While there is a slide-out, it doesn’t pop out of the side but out of the back. This is where the large bed is. What this means, is that the camper is smaller in length when in storage but still has all solid walls, unlike a tent trailer or hybrid trailer. Other sleeping areas include small-sized bunk beds located at the front, as well as a dinette and sofa sleeper off of the kitchen area. The overall weight of this camper is fairly low making this ideal to tow with a half-ton truck or higher. The low hitch weight is also a bonus.

This Keystone Hideout is perfect for the family with the ability to clean up easily with the built-in central vac system and a hidden laundry chute. The electric, 120-volt fireplace offers a comfortable place to warm up and relax on those cooler nights. The front contains a queen-sized bed. Meanwhile, in the back is a large set of bunk beds measuring 52″X74″. These have a convenient ladder built into them for easy access for young children. There are also two entrances to this unit. The front one uses solid step technology to eliminate trailer bounce as you are entering and exiting. The back one conveniently enters straight into the bathroom.

There is a bunk room with 3 additional beds in a separate room at the back. This room is handy in that it contains its own wardrobe area.

Once you start to get into the 30’ campers, you may start to have issues with parking. Check to see the size of the campsite as well as where you are wanting to store this beforehand.

This is the most popular version of the Keystone Passport trailers. This unit can sleep up to 10 people. By utilizing the queen bed located at the front of the trailer, as well as the large bunk beds at the back which measure 51″ X 74″ you have plenty of space for the family without needing a lot of set-ups. Should you decide you need a little more sleep space, the u-shaped dinette offers a larger sleeping area than standard-sized tables. This also comes with the option of either a tri-fold sofa sleeper or theatre seating. If you go with the theatre style, keep in mind that they will no longer fold down into a bed but will be comfortable for reclining in to relax and watch tv.

10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families 7

This unit is nice as it is light in weight. Even full, it does not exceed the 10000 lb mark. This makes it easier for hauling with a 3/4 ton truck or larger. This varies slightly depending on the make and model. While it is a few feet shorter, it also has a much lower hitch weight than the Keystone Hideout. This makes it compatible with a higher range of trucks as well as able to fit in more campsites. The table and couch both slide out for extra floor space when set up. This unit is also handy for its double entrances. One leads into the kitchen of the trailer while the second one goes directly into the bathroom. Unlike many new models, this bathroom still features a bathtub and shower combo for bathing those young children. The bunk beds come with a built-in ladder for easy access. There is also lift up storage under the bottom bed as well as a cargo door for storing larger items while traveling. Hyperdeck flooring offers additional peace of mind with its high performance, waterproof features. No need to worry about unseen spills or a roof vent being left open in the rain.

  • Small waste water tank
  • Long in length, may be harder to store as well as take to certain campsites
  • No solid door separating bunk beds, only a curtain
  • Long in length

While a smaller fridge isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, it might mean that you need to do some shopping in the middle of your trip. This is especially true if your large family is staying for an extended period of time.

The Palomino Puma trailers offer a spacious living area with various amenities to make your trip more comfortable. It has 3 large slides to maximize your area when set up. The master bedroom contains a high-density foam mattress for extra comfort as well as a slide. This gives it the ability to have a wardrobe as well as tons of closet space. Also, the unit can host a second air conditioning unit in here should you be camping in hot climates.

10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families 8

There is also a separate bunkhouse with a solid closing door for each bedroom for a more peaceful night. This room has 2 upper bunk beds as well as a fold-down sofa. There is a wardrobe with extra storage space for clothes and an area for a separate television. In the main area, the couch and table both slide out for more floor space. These both fold down into yet another 2 beds. The L-shaped table adds for a larger sized bed when folded down. This unit also contains a full outdoor kitchen with a cooktop, microwave, sink, and refrigerator. This is great for both cooking and cleaning up. However, unlike the fridge inside the camper, this one will only work when hooked up to a 110-volt power source.

  • Sleeps 8 people
  • Hitch weight-948 lb.
  • Gross vehicle weight rating-10 500lb.
  • Unloaded vehicle weight-8998 lb.
  • Cargo carrying capacity-1502 lb.
  • Exterior length-36’9″
  • Exterior height-11’1″
  • Freshwater tank capacity-43 gallons
  • Greywater tank capacity-64.5 gallons
  • Blackwater tank capacity-34.50 gallons
  • Length of awning-21′
  • Refridgerator-11 cubic feet
  • Approximate price $39 660
  • No bathtub, only a shower
  • Very long in size
  • Heavy hitch weight
  • Heavy overall weight

Even though your truck may have the weight rating for this camper, it may not have the hitch rating. Check you user’s manual beforehand to ensure you aren’t at risk of damage or an accident if you haul this unit. Also, having no bathtub can be inconvenient for families with especially young children who need to get washed up.

Forest River offers a premium bunkhouse camper for large families. The three massive slide outs add tons of extra live-in space. This first slide bumps out the u-shaped dinette and couch. Both of these fold down into additional beds. The second and third slides are both located at the back of the trailer in the bunkhouse. These bump out 2 separate sets of bunk beds for a total of 4 more beds. There is also an option to switch one of these beds out for another couch. The ground space left behind as a result of these slides leads to a large entertainment center complete with extra storage and a television.

10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families 9

On top of this, there is also a master bedroom located at the front of the trailer. This additional room contains a queen-sized bed.

  • Hitch weight-905 lb.
  • UVW-8573 lb.
  • CCC-1292 lb.
  • Exterior length-36’6″
  • Exterior height-11’3″
  • Freshwater tank-39 gal
  • Gray water tank-54 gal
  • Blackwater tank-27 gal
  • Approximate price $39 522
  • Heavy to haul
  • Unit is long making it harder to drive with, park, store and fit into campsites
  • Small black water tank

The length of this unit can make it especially hard for some families. While it does offer a lot of live-in space, parking, towing and storing can all be difficult.

Dutchmen has one of the widest ranges of travel trailers meant for larger groups. While they do have a few smaller models, the majority of them sleep at least 6 people with the larger models allowing up to 10. The Dutchmen Aspen Trail 3680 FLDS can sleep up to 10 people comfortably. The queen-sized master bedroom is located at the back of the camper. This is a spacious room as the head of the bed is a slide-out. This room is equipped for a second ac unit should you desire to have one.

10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families 10

There are two entrances. A large awning has the advantage of covering both of these doors to ensure optimal coverage. The back one leads either into the bathroom or this bedroom. The front entrance boasts a sliding, glass patio style door. This leads to the main part of the camper. There is a fold-down couch as well as a table. These are both located on the second slide out. At the very front of the camper is another L-shaped couch located in front of a 110-volt electric fireplace. This folds down into an even larger bed then the queen-sized one. This camper is unique in that it comes set up for two different types of rear cameras. The first one is used for backing up the unit while the other one is to monitor the traffic behind you. This is especially handy when hauling a unit as large as this one due to the lack of vision it causes.

  • Length39′ 9″
  • Height (with AC)11′ 5″
  • Shipping Weight (Average)8,310 lbs.
  • CCC weight 2392 lbs.
  • Hitch weight-872 lbs.
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity1,518 lbs.
  • Fresh Water Capacity52 gals.
  • Grey Water Capacity78 gals.
  • Waste Water Capacity42 gals.
  • Awning Length20′
  • Refrigerator Size18 cubic feet
  • 2-20 lb. propane tanks
  • 50-amp hook-up
  • Approximate price $36 402
  • Lack of light switches
  • Large (long)
  • Overall weight is heavy
  • Only set up for 2-20lb. propane tanks

When considering this unit, make sure to note the size of it. Depending on where you plan to camp, there may be areas or campsites that you will not fit. You will also need to think about the best place to store something as large as this. There is only one light switch inside the main door and that is all. Every light is located on the ceiling and must be turned on by pushing a button in the middle of it. This can be problematic for either young children or for those who are shorter in size.

Keystone Hideout 38 FQTS can accommodate up to 8 people. This unit is unique in that it has 2 master bedroom areas. These both contain a queen-sized bed. In the rear one, the headboard slides out for extra floor space. With the room at the front of the trailer, the closet slides out for additional storage space.

10 Best Travel Trailers For Large Families 11

This unit also has a third slide which takes out the table and sofa. While both of these can fold down into beds, there is also an option to switch out the table for a free-standing one. However, if you take this option, you should be aware that the table will no longer act as a bed. On the other hand, you can move this table around. This feature can come in handy for a place to sit down and eat outdoors instead of inside.Easy cleaning is essential when traveling with a large group. For that reason, Keystone has added in a central vac system as well as a hidden laundry chute to their new campers. The ladder on the back gives easy access to the walk-on roof for any repair work needing to be done or to simply fetch that frisby that has gone astray. There are also locations ready for solar panel hookups for the freedom to trickle charge your batteries all day long. The back and sides are both prepped should you desire to add on cameras for easier viewing.

  • Sleeps up to 8 occupants
  • Shipping weight-9291 lbs.
  • Hitch weight-1200
  • Length-39′ 11″
  • Height-11′ 4″
  • Freshwater tank-43 gallons
  • Waste water-78 gallons
  • Grey water-78 gallons
  • Propane 2-30 lbs.
  • Interior height 81″
  • 12 Volt 55-amp converter
  • 13.5K BTU air conditioner
  • 4 1/2” Crowned roof
  • Approximate price $40 688
  • A heavy hitch weights
  • Long making it hard to store, tow and fit into many campsites
  • A heavy overall weight
  • Awning is not long enough to cover the second entrance

The hitch weight on this trailer is quite a bit higher than any of the others covered. At 1200 lbs., many trucks will not be able to handle this unit even though they may have the towing capacity for the overall weight. Your best option is to not use anything smaller than a one-ton truck. If you happen to have a diesel engine, even better. Attempting to tow this with anything not rated for the hitch weight will greatly increase your risk of either damage to the truck or an accident.

While these all sleep 6 people or more, they come in a ton of different layouts, price ranges, and sizes. You have to decide how much you would like to spend as well as your primary usage. If you are wanting more pro-longed stays, you may find a larger model with more features more comfortable. On the other hand, if you don’t have a large space to store the unit, don’t have a vehicle with a high towing capacity, or if you are simply intending on camping in more cramped areas, you will certainly benefit from a smaller model. It all depends on your family and personal preference.

Why we recommend the Dutchmen Aspen Trail travel trailer:  The Aspen Trail is one of the finer trailers of the Dutchmen, and has made more than a few appearances on our top 5 lists. It’s on-paper specs are quite impressive, to say the least. After all, it’s hard to find a camper that weighs as low as 3,125 pounds to 8,126 pounds, which offers more durability, length, and sleeping capacity at the cost of the added weight. Check out these in particular:  Aspen Trail 2340BHS  and  Aspen Trail 31BH .

The Aspen Trail is just as impressive when it comes to its feature set. You’ll find the basics: a microwave and a 13,500 BTU air conditioner, along with some extras such as 2 exterior speakers, fully walkable roof, and a stereo system with aux, CD and DVD support! This article may contain compensated links, please read our disclaimer for more information.

Hitting the road full-time as a family is an amazing adventure no matter how many kids you have. That said, larger families can have a really hard time when it comes to finding a rig that can comfortably fit their entire family, meaning they may have to hunt long and hard for the best RV for large family units.

Your see, the vast majority of RVs are made for couples or smaller families, and sleeping more than 2 adults and 2 kids in one of these typical floor plans is possible  but not necessarily comfortable .

Fortunately, there are RVs out there that can comfortably accommodate the larger-than-average family. The trick is knowing where to look for these motorhomes and travel trailers. Sure, you could spend hours scouring the internet to find the absolute best RV for large family groups, but why do that when we’ve done the legwork for you?

Below, we’ve compiled a list of our very favorite large RV selections. These large family full-time RV setups are just what your big happy tribe needs to get out on the road and start living life to the fullest.

Overall Best RV for Large Family: The Fifth Wheel

Let’s start with the fifth wheels. Why? Because we firmly believe the fifth wheel is the best RV for large family units.

These rigs can be absolutely enormous, and feel more like homes than a motorhome or travel trailer might. On top of that, fifth wheels offer more choices in terms of floor plans, meaning you can get picky and find the option that fits your life most perfectly.

Here are our favorite fifth wheel RV for large family options.

Best RV for large family

Coachmenrv.com

Coachmen Chaparral 373MBRB

This fifth wheel comes in at nearly 42 feet long, meaning there is really space for everyone and easily putting it onto our best RV for large family groups list. It’s one of the only three-bedroom rigs on the market, and has dedicated sleeping space for 2 adults and up to 5 kids, as well as a fold-out couch in one bedroom that could sleep 2 more.

Additionally, this trailer boasts 2 full bathrooms, one with a small bathtub, making it easy to ensure the whole family stays nice and clean when Venture Wipes aren’t cutting it any more.

Lastly, we very much appreciate the outdoor entertainment system, which allows the whole family to spread out and enjoy themselves in the great outdoors whenever the weather is nice.

Best RV for large family

Forestriverinc.com

Forest River Heritage Glen 356QB

We love this model for its enormous bunk room in the back of the trailer. The opposing slides in this room really open things up and give the kids plenty of floor space to use during playtime.

The bunk room comes with 2 top bunks, a twin bed, and a trundle bed under the twin. If needed, it would be possible to add more sleeping space to this room. That said, the couch and table both fold down to make additional sleeping spaces in the living area.

We love that this trailer also has two full bathrooms, including one with a small bath tub for bathing the littlest travelers. We also adore the large closet in the master bedroom and the fact that it has prep for a washer and dryer , something that every parent will appreciate.

Lastly, we think the outdoor kitchen is a fabulous addition, as it makes cooking for your crew a much less crowded experience.

Best RV for large family

Granddesignrv.com

Grand Design Solitude 3740BH

The bunk room on this 40-foot trailer can sleep a total of 6 kids and features a huge storage space for containing all of the toys and clothes that come along with those little ones. This room also has a half bath attached for those late-night potty breaks.

Moving into the living area, we highly recommend forgoing the table and chairs—which will be too small for a large family anyway—and getting the super sofa. This huge sofa will seat at least four adults and folds out into a bed for even more sleeping spaces.

In the master bedroom, there is prep for a washer and dryer, along with another large closet. On top of that, you have the option of having a king bed in this room, something that co-sleeping parents will surely love.

Keystone Montana Fifth Wheel

Keystone Montana High Country 335BH

The bunkroom in this model is different than others we’ve seen and we love it. The kids have a bedroom in the rear where the slide actually goes out the back and there’s a half bath so you don’t have to share! For additional sleeping there is a loft above with access from the living area.

In the living area you have plenty of space to get cozy. Sit in the comfortable theater seating area and enjoy the fireplace or spend some time at the table. As an added bonus, the fridge is residential so you won’t have a problem with food for your large family.

The master bedroom has a king bed and a great sized closet.

Keystone Fifth Wheel

The Royal family with four children from Crazy Family Adventure has the Keystone RV from above and they are enjoying the size and space that the model provides. Since this is their 6th rig since starting their adventure, they have some tips for how to find a family friendly rv .

Ideal Family-Friendly Lightweight Bumper Pull

Want a pull-behind trailer but need something lighter than the fifth wheels listed above? The bumper pull travel trailer might be your best bet. While these trailers do tend to be a bit smaller than their fifth wheel counterparts, there are enough options out there that you will likely find something that works for you.

Additionally, because travel trailers are relatively lightweight and hitch to the back of the vehicle rather than in the bed of a truck, they can be towed by a van. This means a bumper pull will allow you to have seating for the whole family in a single vehicle.

The best RV trailers for families with 5 or more people are as follows.

Best RV for large family

Highlandridgerv.com

Highland Ridge Light LT312BHS

We love this bunkhouse trailer for bigger families because it has a decent sized bunk room. This room includes a table, storage, and sleeping space for 4–6, depending on how big the kids are.

In the living area, we adore the enormous U-shaped dinette option, which offers seating for the entire family, something not many travel trailers can claim. The kitchen island means you’ll have plenty of counter space for prepping meals for a crowd, and pull-out pet dishes make it easy to feed the pup while keeping little hands out of the kibble.

The master bedroom offers the option of a king bed, as well as a laundry chute and washer and dryer prep—all things parents will love.

Best RV for large family

Keystonerv.com

Keystone Passport 3221 BH

If you want a bigger bunk room, this is the trailer for you. Because the bunk room features opposing slides, there is a ton of floor space, making playtime a little more comfortable. When it comes time for bed, you’ll find sleeping space for 5 kids and could likely add more.

The outdoor kitchen and huge walk-in pantry make feeding your big family that much easier. Meanwhile, the “pivot furniture” option means you can have a little bit more couch space for family movie night. Finally, we very much appreciate that this trailer has a small bathtub, so bathing babies is a cinch.

We also really like the Keystone Bullet 335BHS, which is similar in design but no longer manufactured. In fact, we’d even go so far as to say that this older Bullet might very well be the best RV for large family groups who wish to have a bumper pull trailer.

Best Class C RV for Large Family

What about the best class C RV for large family units? To be honest, class C rigs don’t offer a lot in the way of variety. That said, a traditional class C bunkhouse can accommodate quite a few people in terms of sleeping space. If that won’t work for you and you’re set on a class C, we recommend bumping up to a super C.

We’ve included one of each type of class C RV below. These rigs made it onto our best RV for large family groups list because of their great floor plans, high quality, and wonderful amenities.

Best RV for large family

Winnebago.com

Winnebago Minnie Winnie 31H

To be honest, there are a number of class C RVs on the market with essentially the exact same floor plan as this one, and any you choose will likely be fine. So why’d we choose the Minnie Winnie specifically? Because it’s Winnebago, a company that has a reputation for making high quality products, meaning they’re probably putting out the best RV for large family units in terms of this very popular floor plan.

We love this super common class C floorplan for families because it features a set of bunks as well as the cab-over bunk, meaning you have dedicated sleeping spaces for as many as 4 kids, with a fold-down table and couch offering even more beds.

We also like that there is floor space for playtime beside the bunks, a U-shaped dinette that will seat 5 or 6, and a nice big wardrobe in the master bedroom, making storage just a bit easier.

Best RV for large family

Dynamaxcorp.com

Dynamic Corp Force HD 37BH Super C

If you want something much bigger than the RV listed above but still really want a class C, you’re going to have to go with a super C. This is a huge jump up in terms of price and fuel consumption, but will offer more living space and cargo carrying capacity.

We love this super C in particular for a myriad of reasons. Once again, we see a bunk room with plenty of floor space for playing. The cab-over bunk is nice and roomy, and there is both a loveseat and a couch, meaning you’ll have plenty of seating for everyone.

In the master bedroom, you’ll find a king size bed and washer and dryer prep. Lastly, this RV features tons of storage space and an enormous cargo carrying capacity.

The Perfect Class A RV for a Family

Finally, there is the class A RV. When it comes to motorhomes, the class A is the cream of the crop. It also tends to be the best option when looking for the best RV for full-time family living and a motorhome is your preference.

Class A motorhomes tend to be larger than class C RVs. On top of that, the fact that they tend to offer more storage and better cargo carrying capacity means you’ll have a much easier time carrying the stuff you need for a large family RV adventure.

Our absolute favorite motorhome when it comes to large family full-time RV options is the following.

Best RV for large family

Entegracoach.com

Entegra Coach Vision XL 36A

Entegra makes gorgeous coaches, and this one is no exception. In fact, if you’re looking for a motorhome and cost is of no concern, this is easily the best RV for large family groups. We love it for families because of the bunk beds and the drop-down bunk over the cab area. These beds, plus the king size bed in the master bedroom, tri-fold sofa, and fold-down dinette, make sleeping space for as many as 9 people!

The three slides make the whole RV feel spacious, and the 2 full bathrooms mean you’ll rarely have to wait your turn to shower. Of course, the washer and dryer prep are appreciated, as always, and the residential fridge makes storing more food for your large crew much easier.

Toy Hauler Option for Bigger Groups

Sometimes finding the best RV for a family of 6 or more requires a bit of creativity. You see, there aren’t many floor plans out there that work well for groups of this size, especially if they’d like to live in their RV full-time. This is where the toy hauler comes into play.

There are motorhome and trailer toy hauler options, meaning you can choose the type of RV that suits you best. The thing that all toy haulers have in common? Their large, open garage spaces. Many big families use these garages as kid bedrooms, customizing them to fit their needs.

If you’re having a tough time finding exactly what you want, this is the option we recommend looking into. Just be sure you pay attention to cargo capacities and tow capacities so you don’t exceed any of these important limits with your garage remodel.

There you have it, folks. These are our very favorite large family full-time RV choices. If the best RV for large family units isn’t listed here, we don’t know where you’ll find it.

Best Family Travel Trailers (4-5 People)

Large Airstream Trailer

Many parents subscribe to the false notion that once you have kids, your adventuring days are over. You couldn’t possibly take a long vacation with a young child, let alone more than one of them.

This seems to be especially true if your dream vacation includes traveling across the country in an RV or a trailer.

Fortunate for you and your family, that idea isn’t true.

With the use of a large trailer, you can plan the ultimate family vacation with enough space for everyone.

Trailers are a great way to get out and see the world on your own terms and schedule, or even to park at a campground for a high-class camping trip.

Trailers make it easy to go wherever you want, stopping along the way to see any interest sights you come across or activities your family is fond of.

And during all of this travel, you don’t have to book flights or hotels or even stop for bathroom breaks.

If you’re seriously considering purchasing a large trailer for your family for the first time, you may find yourself lost in a sea of internet options and dealer websites.

We’re here to help you make your choice with helpful information and no confusion with our list of the best large trailers.

The Best Large Trailers for Families of 5 Plus

How We Selected The Best Trailers For Families

There are a few key things you should consider before you buy just any trailer. First off, since you have a family with children, it’s important to pick a trailer with a large floor plan and enough beds.

Many trailers have unique ways of storing hidden beds that you can pull out at night, but save space during the day. Not only this, but we looked for a variety in floor plans along with noteworthy features.

Though this typically isn’t an issue in modern-day trailers, you should still take into consideration your bathroom options. Most trailers will have fully functional bathrooms, but larger ones can have two. You’ll pay more, but if you have a large family, it may be worth it. We find that large families have a lot of devices, so it’s good to have a trailer with plenty of outlets. We also looked for good kitchens that feature a refrigerator and freezer. You’re going to need plenty of dining options for your kids, so a fully operational kitchen is essential. With that in mind, we looked for trailers that include appliances.

Finally, along with your entire family comes all of their stuff. We looked for trailers that could not only fit all of your family members but everything they bring with them. Storage space will be important.

Here are a few extra features that are nice to have, but not necessary: • Cable hookup/TV • Internet • Extra dining space • Hardwood floor • Windows • Washer/Dryer

Buying any kind of camper is confusing. Our list of nine best family travel trailer RVs can cut through the noise. In this article we also explain the top seven questions to ask so that you can choose the best RV for families like yours.

From how to buy the right travel trailer for your needs, to great features of the newest models on the market, any of these family trailers help make fun camping memories for everyone on board.

But before we can address the big question of what travel trailer is best for families, let’s review the four types of travel trailers made by RV manufacturers in 2023. Each can be perfect for families, depending on how the RV will be used for camping.

The four types of travel trailers, pop-up campers.

Pop-up trailerss are the most affordable RVs. They can be towed with any car, even a small SUV or electric vehicle with a towing hitch. Pop-up campers are compact, but expand to provide good living space and storage.

Travel Trailers

Want the affordability of a pop-up trailer, with travel trailer living space? Hybrid trailers have hard sides that fold up, like a pop-up camper. When fully open, they can provide as much space as a travel trailer. Their folding ability allows for easy towing by small tow vehicles.

Hybrid Campers

Heavier than pop-up campers but lighter than 5th wheels, travel trailers are also called “bumper pulls.” They are the most popular type of towable RV, made with hundreds of floor plans and models ranging from simple to luxurious. Most travel trailer layouts work for part-time or full-time RVing.

Fifth Wheels

Fifth wheel trailers for full-time RVing are a popular option. They have lots of living space, high-end features and amenities such as large bathrooms, master bedrooms, kitchens, and storage. But fifth wheels are big, expensive, and require a 3/4-ton or 1-ton tow truck to pull them.

Top Seven Questions to Ask Before Buying a Family Travel Trailer

Now that you know the different types of travel trailers, it’s time to narrow down your options. The problem is that choosing the best family travel trailer RV for your tribe feels like a ton of work. And it can be! Just visit an RV show and you’ll find dozens of RV floor plans and styles. Some trailers are great, some not so great. But all require you to ask important questions, such as:

1. What type of family travel trailer works best for our camping needs?

Travel trailers are non-motorized RVs. They tend to be the most affordable campers because there is no motor, drive train, or complicated RV systems to factor in. Towable travel trailers break down into four types of RVs pulled with a tow vehicle. Each has different pros and cons of ownership depending on how your family will use it throughout the year.

2. How will we use our family travel trailer?

Think about how you and your family want to use the trailer.

Some folks use their family travel trailer RVs for the weekend and don’t mind tight quarters. Others want lots of space and amenities for extended RV road trips. And today many families are full-time RVing with travel trailers . Some prefer being outside most of the time. Others just like to curl up with a good book on a comfortable RV bed.

Where and how will you use your family travel trailer?

3. Will we take short or long RV trips?

Do you see family as weekend warriors? Or are you dreaming of  full-time RV living  as a family? If your travel trailer becomes your family’s second residence or even primary home, residential-type amenities are a must. Features of the best family travel trailer RVs for long-term living include large storage compartments, a residential refrigerator, big food pantry, and spacious bathroom.

Where will you and your family go RVing? And for how long?

4. How many people will sleep in the trailer?

Nearly any small travel trailer works for a couple. But if you are an RVing family of three or more, a travel trailer with multiple beds is necessary. Do you have young kids? They require less privacy than families who go RVing with teenagers. Consider a bunkhouse travel trailer for older kids in the camper.

What family members need a bed? And what kind do they need?

5. How much weight can your vehicle tow?

If you have a light truck like a Ford F-150, you can easily tow over 8,000 lbs. But small trucks like a Toyota Tacoma can safely tow much less. And if your tow vehicle will be even smaller, like a small SUV, your towing capabilities are even more limited.

Don’t put your vehicle transmission or your life at risk by towing with a vehicle that is too light for the trailer. Some RV sales people will say anything for you to buy a family travel trailer.

Do you understand everything about “GVWR” (Gross Vehicle Weight Ratio) for travel trailers ?

6. What kind of trailer bathroom works for your family?

Some travel trailer floor plans with two bathrooms exist. These two-bathroom trailers are great for family RV trips and full-time RVing with kids, but they tend to be large and require heavy duty trucks. Many travel trailer floorplans include split bathrooms. The sink and shower or bathtub are in one compartment, and the RV toilet is in another. These RV floor plans make it easy to RV with multiple family members.

What is the best RV bathroom for your family? Split? Single? Dual?

7. What is my RV shopping budget?

Last but not least, the RV shopping budget is an important factor in finding the best family travel trailer for your needs. Buying an RV in 2023 is not like RV shopping during the pandemic. There are a LOT of RVs on the market, and it’s a buyer’s marketplace at the moment. You have plenty of leverage to get a good price, but it’s still important to know if you can actually afford to make payments or buy a new or used RV  in cash. If you don’t have a good grasp on your finances, get one before you are stuck in a bad RV financing deal .

Our 9 Best Family Travel Trailer RVs

You now have a better understanding of the bumper-pull trailer your family needs. Let’s start shopping!

We selected nine best family travel trailer RVs based on the following criteria:

  • Large floor plans with generous sleeping capacity
  • Bathrooms must be a dry bath, multiple bathrooms a plus
  • Plenty of USB outlets to charge electronics
  • Large amounts of storage space
  • Bunkbeds when possible

If you are an RV camping family of four or more people, consider these nine top-rated travel trailer RVs for families.

Family Travel Trailer Reviews Summary

The RV lifestyle is something Tammy and I say is to be shared with family and friends. There are many fine family RVS to choose from, and too many to cover in one review article.

What’s most important to know is this: when purchasing a camper for your family, choose one that will suit your family’s camping needs and your budget.

We didn’t include any tent campers in our list simply because most don’t have bathrooms. They just aren’t convenient for a family with kids. However, if you are interested in them, check out our list of some of the best pop-up campers available.

Want a little more adventure? These seven off-road towable trailer campers may be more to your liking.

6 Things to Look for in a Travel Trailer for Families

What to Look for in a Travel Trailer for Families

When looking for a travel trailer for your family, choose one packed with features and accommodations that makes life on the road easier.

The best travel trailers for families have spacious interiors, multiple sleeping options, and a variety of amenities.

So, before you buy, be sure to consider the following factors.

The best travel trailers for families have spacious interiors and open floorplans. This allows everyone in the family to move around comfortably and provides plenty of storage space. A travel trailer with a rear bunkhouse works well for families with kids, as it allows for a separate area to sleep and play.

2. Separate Sleeping Quarters

When traveling with a large group, it’s essential to have a travel trailer to accommodate everyone comfortably. That’s why separate sleeping quarters are a must-have feature. Not only will it give everyone a place to sleep, but it also provides much-needed privacy, especially for teens.

3. The Intended Use

It’s important to consider how you’ll use your travel trailer before making a purchase. For example, do you envision yourself mainly using it for weekend getaways? Or can you see it as more of a home away from home for extended stays?

There are a variety of travel trailers on the market, and the one that’s right for you will depend on your intended use.

A smaller, lighter trailer may be all you need if you’re primarily looking for a comfortable place to crash after a long day of exploring.

However, suppose you’re planning on spending extended periods in your trailer. In that case, you’ll need to look for one with more amenities and better equipped for a nicer indoor living experience.

4. Tech and Amenities

There’s no question that travel trailers have come a long way in recent years. You can now find them equipped with many tech and amenities, from self-leveling jacks to Bluetooth speakers.

Of course, all this tech and luxury comes at a price. Travel trailers with all the bells and whistles can climb in price. But if you’re willing to pay the expense, you’ll be able to enjoy a level of comfort and convenience that was once unthinkable.

5. Shower or Tub Space

With RV bathrooms, one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why travel trailers with shower or tub space are valuable to families. However, when traveling with a group, having a wet bath instead of a shower or tub space becomes old fast.

You want to have the option of taking a luxurious shower after a long day of hiking or being on the beach. The last thing you want is for your kids to be stuck in a cramped bathroom with no shower or tub.

When considering travel trailers for your family, choose one with a spacious and well-appointed bathroom. It’ll make all the difference for everyone’s comfort and enjoyment.

6. Towing Capacity of Your Vehicle

Before buying a travel trailer, you must ensure your vehicle can safely tow it. The last thing you want is to be stuck on the side of the road with a trailer that’s too heavy for your car or truck.

Check your tow vehicle’s owner’s manual if you’re unsure what your SUV or truck’s maximum towing capacity. You can also find this information online or by contacting your local dealership’s service department.

What’s the Most Reliable Travel Trailer for Families?

Whats the Most Reliable Travel Trailer for Families

Some people think bigger is always better for travel trailers. But that’s not necessarily the case. A larger trailer might have more space and features, but it can also be more difficult to tow and maneuver.

The sweet spot for families is a trailer around 30- 35 feet long. Owning an RV this size gives you plenty of room for your family, but it’s still small enough to tow and maneuver easily.

When choosing the most reliable travel trailer, look for something you can manageably maintain. Every brand has high manufacturing standards. The real question is how can you fix and service.

One extreme is a brand new model that will have its maintenance routine. The other is buying one that needs a DIY overhaul. Only you can decide where you fall on the scale.

Is a Travel Trailer the Best Type of RV for Families?

Is a Travel Trailer the Best Type of RV for Families

There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding what type of RV is best for your family. For example, travel trailers come in a wide range of sizes, from compact models you can pull with an SUV to massive fifth wheels that require a heavy-duty truck to tow.

Travel trailers offer many enhancing camping experience amenities, such as slideouts, bunk beds, and outdoor kitchens.

Travel trailers for families have one significant advantage over other RVs: their size. Most travel trailers can accommodate families of four or more, making them ideal for family vacations.

Towable trailers also typically have more storage space than other RVs so that you can bring your gear along. And for full-time families, a travel trailer can be a great way to see the country while having all the comforts of home.

How Long Will Travel Trailers Last?

How Long Will a Travel Trailer Last

A travel trailer can last for many years with proper care and maintenance. The average lifespan of a travel trailer is around twenty years. Still, some trailers, such as the Airstream models, have lasted much longer.

How Many People Can Comfortably Live in a Travel Trailer?

How Many People Can Comfortably Live in a Travel Trailer

The number of people who can comfortably live in a travel trailer varies depending on the size and layout of the trailer. For example, most travel trailers can accommodate four to six people, but bunkhouse travel trailers can sleep more than eight people.

When choosing a travel trailer for your family, be sure to pick one that’s the right size for your group. You don’t want to be cramped up in a small trailer. Yet you also don’t want to have a rig that’s bigger than you can handle.

Which Travel Trailer for Families Will You Choose?

Which Travel Trailer for Families Will You Choose

Now that you know more about the best travel trailers for families, it’s time to shop. But first, keep a few things in mind as you narrow your choices.

First, think about how many people will travel with you. If you have a large family, you’ll need a trailer that provides plenty of sleeping and living space.

Second, consider your budget. Travel trailers can vary widely in price, so it’s crucial to find one that fits your financial needs.

Finally, decide what type of features you want in a trailer. For example, some families prefer trailers with full kitchens and bathrooms, while others prefer more straightforward designs.

Once you’ve considered these factors, you’ll be ready to choose the perfect travel trailer for your family’s next adventure.

Range Lite 261BH

An extra-deep, flush-floor slideout, opens up this spacious floorplan and makes great use of space with a dinette and tri-fold sofa for bonus sleeping options. Pantry storage keeps the family well-fed with fewer trips to the store.

Floorplan design isn’t the only area where we take a little extra care to consider families of campers. Our trailers are built with easy-to-clean, residential vinyl flooring and flush-floor slideouts, without carpet. We also don’t put heat registers in the floor (most models)—furry family members appreciate that.

Why Travel Trailers are a Good Fit for Families?

There are a number of reasons why travel trailers are a good fit for families , no matter how large. Not only are there countless RV manufacturers of travel trailers, but this also means there are countless makes and models as well.

Here are some other reasons why travel trailers are a great fit for families, including yours:

  • Many floor plans to choose from . Given just how many travel trailers there are, and all of the ways that RV manufacturers can finish them, you may even feel overwhelmed by how many floor plans and layouts there are to choose from. You can get travel trailers with multiple bedrooms, multiple bathrooms , huge living spaces with theater seating for the whole family, and much more. That’s why it’s so important to determine what floor plan works best for you before you start shopping!
  • Relatively budget-friendly . While it obviously depends on the amenities and luxury features that you end up with, most travel trailers are more budget-friendly compared to other styles of RV. Compared to motorhomes, travel trailers are typically a fraction of the cost, which makes them more affordable and gives you far more options for your money, especially if you are on a budget!
  • Plenty of space for the whole family . One of the main perks to purchasing a travel trailer over a few other different types of RV is the fact that they are usually spacious and have many different sleeping arrangements for the whole family. Not only will you have enough beds for everyone, but you may even choose a layout that gives you multiple living areas as well. It all depends on what you’re looking for, but travel trailers always have enough space for everyone!
  • Easy to set up . While any style of RV can feel daunting to set up and take down when you first get started, travel trailers are fairly easy to set up once you get the hang of it. In fact, you can even purchase RV accessories and travel trailer amenities that help make set up and take down even easier. It all depends on your budget and what you’re looking for, but travel trailers are a fairly simple RV in terms of everything you need to do to get camp ready for the whole family.
  • Flexibility in terms of size and weight . There are so many different travel trailers on the market today that you likely won’t have any issues finding one that suits your family. You will also need to keep in mind the weight limit of your travel trailer so that you don’t damage the tow vehicle that you plan on driving. However, there are enough travel trailers out there in the world that one will likely have enough space for the family as well as being light enough for you to tow with ease!

No matter what you were looking for, there are countless numbers of travel trailers that make good fits for the whole family. But what else should you consider before purchasing a travel trailer for your upcoming camping adventures? Let’s take a look at some of those now!

What to Consider in a Family Travel Trailer?

Besides making sure you have enough beds, what else should you consider in a travel trailer made especially for families big or small ? Let’s talk about some of those things now!

Number of Sleeping Arrangements

Ensuring that you have enough beds for everyone is key to purchasing a family travel trailer. Some travel trailers have enough beds for everyone without the need for convertible furniture, such as a dining room that becomes an additional sleeping area. However, it all depends on what you’re looking for.

If you have multiple young children accompanying you on your camping adventures, you may want to keep an eye on travel trailers that have bunkhouse floor plans . This allows you multiple bunk beds in a single floor plan, giving you plenty of space for everyone to sleep.

However, if you are traveling with older children or people who want their own bedroom or dedicated sleeping area, you may want to keep an eye on floor plans that offer you this. You can find floor plans with multiple double or queen-size beds within, but it may take a little bit of extra searching.

If you aren’t particularly worried about everyone having a dedicated bed throughout the day, you can definitely find a travel trailer with sleeper sofas, convertible dining areas, and other unique bed positions. Just make sure the entire family is comfortable with this decision before making your final purchase!

Layout and Floor Plan

Speaking of sleeping arrangements, the layout or floor plan of your family travel trailer will make or break your camping experience. While it is difficult to know what type of floor plan you need, especially if you aren’t used to living in an RV, it’s imperative to make a list of things you are hoping for in an RV layout.

For example, you may want a layout that offers you 2 master bedrooms, or perhaps you want 2 bathrooms on board. You may also want a layout that gives you more dedicated living room space so that you can spend some quality time with your family, or perhaps you want a large and spacious dining area.

The way the interior of your travel trailer is arranged may matter as well. Perhaps you want two doors leading outside so that you can easily access your outdoor living area. Or perhaps you want to make sure that your kid’s sleeping area is far away from the adult sleeping area.

Regardless of what you are hoping for, I highly recommend touring your local RV lots or manufacturer so that you can get a true feel of what travel trailers are like on the inside. This is one of the best ways to figure out what type of layout suits you best!

Going along with what type of layout works best for you, you should pay close attention to the bathrooms on board your travel trailer made for families. This is because the living area inside of a bathroom is typically fairly compact or lackluster compared to other areas of a travel trailer.

If you know that you will need your RV bathroom in busy situations, such as when the entire family needs to get ready at the same time, you may want to prioritize the space in this room in particular.

In addition, if you know that you are traveling with a large group of people and that more than one bathroom will come in handy, you should pay attention to floor plans that give you this option. Some RVs offer two bathrooms on board, but this is rarer than you think. Be sure to prioritize this if it is a necessity for your family.

One final consideration for you to think about is whether or not you need a bathtub on board your RV. If you have particularly small children or any animals that need bathing during your stay, having a bathtub may come in handy, but this is not a typical feature on board the average travel trailer.

Amenities or Luxury Features

While it may not be high up on your list of priorities, you may want to consider the types of amenities or luxurious features that you want on board your travel trailer made for families. But what might some of these features look like? Let’s discuss this briefly now.

No matter what you were looking for, it is difficult to find a travel trailer or RV that has every single amenity you want on board, and under the initial purchase price. Most people end up adding on to their final price, through many different standard amenities.

Some potential upgrades and luxury features that you may want to consider include:

  • Auto leveling or automatic jack stands
  • Multiple air conditioning units
  • Backup batteries or solar panels
  • Automatic awnings with wind sensors
  • Upgraded appliances in the kitchen, such as residential refrigerators
  • Upgraded windows, with tinting or frameless features
  • Outdoor shower or bathroom upgrades
  • Tankless hot water heater
  • All electric upgrade so that you don’t have to worry about propane

Again, it all depends on what you were hoping for out of a travel trailer, but there are a number of features to consider as you shop, so keep this in mind! No matter what, just know that whatever you choose to add on, comes at a price!

Ability to Boondock

Speaking of amenities, you may be looking for certain ones that allow you to boondock with ease. Boondocking, also known as dry camping, is the ability to go entirely off the grid or disconnected from typical RV hookups so that you can stay wherever you want.

Many travel trailers can be equipped with boondocking features, but they don’t often come standard. It also depends on the size of the travel trailer that you are shopping for, as the larger the RV, the more difficult it is to boondock in.

This isn’t to say that you can’t boondock in an RV that is built for families, but some travel trailers have too many utilities to power by solar or batteries. However, some boondocking features that you should keep in mind include:

  • Multiple batteries that are built especially for boondocking
  • Solar panels dependent on your utility usage
  • Larger holding tanks for your gray and black water tanks
  • Generators or other alternate fuel sources
  • Appliances that run on battery or solar power

You may even be able to find a travel trailer that is built especially for boondocking or traveling and areas that other travel trailers can’t go. You can find options that have a raised chassis or heavy-duty tires, but all of this will come at a price, so keep this in mind.

Length and Weight of Trailer

Something you should consider before many other travel trailer features is just how long of a travel trailer you need. In addition to the length, you should always consider the weight limit of your tow vehicle so that you know just how heavy a trailer you are going to be able to tow.

For example, it’s definitely possible to find a family-friendly travel trailer that’s under 8000 pounds , but finding something that’s under 5,000 pounds may be a bit more difficult. However, there are enough travel trailers on the market today that you will no doubt find something that suits your specific weight limits and capacities.

Travel trailers range in links, anywhere from 15 feet to well over 40 feet long. While it all depends on the amount of sleeping arrangements you need and the amount of interior living space you need, there are many different length limits that suit families of any size.

Weight is also something to consider, as travel trailers always vary in terms of how much they weigh. You can find lightweight models that are better suited for the average car or truck, but there are also models that give you more support, and stability, but they may be too heavy to tow!

One of the final things for you to consider before you start shopping is what you plan on spending and what you can feasibly afford. Your budget will be key in determining what type of travel trailer you get for your family, as there are enough models on the market today to suit any budget.

Depending on the amenities and luxury features, as well as the overall size of your travel trailer, you may be looking to spend anywhere from $20,000-$90,000. While this may seem like a wide range of prices, keep in mind that it truly all depends on what you specifically are looking for.

There are also a number of brands that are better suited for multiple budgets, as some RV manufacturers such as Airstream are known for their luxury and upscale prices. No matter what you end up with, chances are, it will be perfect for you and your family, as well as suit your budget!

Ready to check out some of our curated options? Here are 12 of the best options available to you and your family, complete with expert reviews and advice! Check them out now.

Best Overall: Palomino Puma

  • Over 20 different family-friendly floor plans
  • Many lengths and weights for tow vehicles
  • Cozy and easy to clean interior
  • Design and finishings are a bit basic

While there are a number of great travel trailers for families on the market today, the Palomino Puma has a lot to offer a wide variety of family styles and types. One of the main reasons to check out the Puma? It has over 20 different travel trailer floor plans for you to consider, giving just about any family the perfect fit. Let’s check out this travel trailer in more detail now!

When it comes to the weights and measures of the Puma, this trailer ranges in length, from 29 feet to just shy of 39 feet. This RV is designed to be towed by the majority of all half-ton trucks or vehicles, but make sure to check out the weight on this one to make sure it works well for you and your family.

Given just how many floor plans there are, you may feel overwhelmed about what decision is right for you at first. You can get the Puma with two bathrooms, with a spacious living area, multiple bunkhouse options, and more. Many options have chef kitchens as well as outdoor kitchens, for those of you who love to cook.

You can get the Puma pre-wired for solar, included standard. There’s also the option to add an additional AC unit , ducted heating, and more. In terms of the standard features on this RV, there aren’t too many that are special or out of the ordinary, but you’ll definitely have everything you need in order to hit the road.

The price point on the Puma is fair to a variety of budgets, and the interior design is cozy and easy to clean. Depending on the floor plan, you’re likely to find something with plenty of storage, places for everyone to relax, and even living space to come together and enjoy game night as a family!

The interior design could be a bit more interesting throughout the rig, but the living area and kitchen, in particular, look great, especially at this price. Definitely check out the Puma, at the very least to take advantage of their many floor plans!

Best on a Budget: Jayco Jay Feather

  • Clear initial purchase price with many things included
  • Multiple floor plans and travel trailer lengths
  • Interior design works well for families
  • More affordable options out there other than this one

Starting at $43k, the Jay Feather by Jayco may not be the most budget-friendly travel trailer out there. However, it is going to give you the most bang for your buck, especially when you consider that there are 9 distinct floor plans across a variety of lengths and weights. Let’s check it out now!

One of the first things that many people notice about Jayco travel trailers is the fact that they have a unique and lovely interior design. In fact, Jayco crafts the majority of their cabinetry and furniture in house, creating a warm and welcoming space that is unique to this particular RV brand and manufacturer.

When it comes to finding a floor plan that works well for your family, the Jay Feather offers you multiple different bunkhouse floor plan options, including double bunk beds stacked on top of each other. You can also find floor plans with a bunkhouse bedroom, complete with a sofa and entertainment system for the kiddos.

The interior kitchen areas of this travel trailer are spacious and welcoming, but if there isn’t enough space to cook indoors on this rig, many floor plans come equipped with an outdoor kitchen as well. You also have customizable living spaces, giving you the option to add theater seating or convertible couches for more sleeping space.

In terms of amenities in special features, there isn’t too much included at this standard purchase price. However, you have the option to upgrade your electric panel to a 50 amp service rather than a 30 amp service, as well as prep for an additional air conditioning unit should you need one.

Jayco also offers a few different solar panel options for you to add on to the initial purchase price, should you be interested in boondocking or having renewable energy on board your RV. It may not be something that feels necessary to you at this point in time, but Jayco likes to give its customers the option!

Again, this particular budget-friendly travel trailer isn’t the cheapest option out there in the world today. However, it has everything you need and multiple floor plans to choose from, a fair price point, and many different unique features included in this price. There are always less-expensive options out there, but this is a fantastic and reliable one from Jayco!

Lightest Weight: Coachmen Apex Ultra-Lite

  • Everything under 6500 pounds
  • Multiple lengths and floor plans
  • Plenty of storage throughout, especially in bedrooms
  • Fairly basic interior design

When I first began my RVing journey living full-time in my travel trailer, I was always stressed about how much my RV weighed. If you are also nervous about towing something too heavy for your tow vehicle, check out the Coachmen Apex Ultra-Lite. All of the floor plans for this particular RV are under 6500 pounds . Let’s talk about them in more detail now!

Ranging in length from 25 ft to 35 ft, the Apex is ideal for those of you helping to bring along the entire family. There are a number of floor plans with multiple bunk beds, including ones with double bunk bed sizes for the older kiddos in your life. What else is special about this floor plan? Let’s take a closer look.

One of the main things you will notice about the Apex floor plans is the fact that there is storage everywhere. There are walk around queen size beds for adults, complete with under-bed storage. There’s plenty of space in the galley kitchen as well as huge exterior storage compartments.

You can get a floor plan that has two separate living areas, one for the adults and one for the kids. You can also get Theater seating, a larger refrigerator upgrade, and floor plans that give you spacious bathrooms so that more than one person at a time can get ready in the morning.

You can choose from a few different interior design options on this particular travel trailer, though the design is fairly simplistic overall. However, it is easy to clean and maintain, especially if you plan on bringing a few too many kids along on your camping adventures!

You even get a small amount of solar panel power included standard on this particular RV!

For the price, the Apex is a great choice for those of you worried about towing something too heavy for your vehicle. Just bring your own interior design features so that you can get it looking the way you want, but this is a great choice for a number of people just starting off with a travel trailer.

Most Spacious: Dutchmen Astoria

  • Multiple floor plans with bunk beds and king size beds
  • Living space is bright and spacious
  • Contemporary and modern interior design
  • Not very much included standard at this price

If you want something a bit more luxurious and spacious, you should definitely check out the Dutchmen Astoria. Starting at $56k, the Astoria is a bit pricey compared to other options on this list. However, it has a lot to offer, especially when it comes to everyone having their own space. Let’s check it out!

While there are only five floor plans to check out on this particular travel trailer, each one is fantastic for families of all sizes. One floor plan only sleeps two to four people, but there are multiple that sleep 5 to 6, and even some floor plans that sleep 8 to 10 in case you have a large group that you want to bring along with you.

You can get the Astoria in multiple lengths, from 26 feet to 36 feet, and it remains easy to drive and tow. Plus, you have a heated and enclosed underbelly on board this rig, which means you can camp in it year-round if that is something you are interested in doing.

Stepping on board the Astoria, you will notice that the interior design is light and modern. You can choose from a few different fabrics and countertop materials, though everything is contemporary and easy to clean. There’s a bit more personality in this travel trailer compared to other options on this list so far, so this is definitely a plus.

There are walk around King beds on multiple floor plans, bunk bedrooms, beautiful kitchen and living areas, and much more. You can get electric fireplaces on certain floor plans as well as Theater seating, and everyone should feel as if they have their own space to relax and unwind.

At this particular price point, you may be expecting multiple features to be included in the initial purchase price. However, the features on this RV are fairly standard, with the option to add a 50 amp service and an additional air conditioning unit, not included in the initial price.

While you might be expecting a few more options, the Astoria is priced fairly high for what you get. However, there’s plenty of space for everyone, and it is furnished beautifully!

Best with Two Bathrooms: KZ RV Connect

  • Half bath and full bath floor plan option
  • Sleeps up to 9 people onboard this RV
  • Beautiful interior design is easy to maintain
  • No boondocking features included standard

KZ RV creates a few fantastic options when it comes to travel trailers, and the Connect is no exception. This particular RV has a fair price point and 11 different floor plans, though only one of them offers you two distinct bathrooms. Let’s talk more about this RV in general, especially the floor plan with more flexibility for your family!

Depending on the floor plan, you can sleep anywhere from 3 to 9 people on board the Connect, with the double bathroom floor plans sleeping up to 9 individuals. The two bathroom floor plan is just about 37 feet in length, and it offers you a distinct living area for the kiddos that is separated from everything else.

You have multiple bunk beds and dining areas on board this RV, with the option to enclose a separate bedroom area across the rig from the master bedroom. Speaking of the master bedroom, you have a walk around king size bed on some options, including the floor plan that has two bathrooms.

There are a number of features included standard for this particular travel trailer, including an outdoor kitchen and beautiful modern interior design. In terms of other features that are included standard, you have a full size oven and range combo in the kitchen, more insulation so that you can camp in more seasons, and you also have the option to add an entire off-grid solar package.

The interior design for this RV is beautiful and modern, with undermount stainless steel sinks and backsplash in the kitchen and bathroom. This should keep you comfortable and feeling at home for the duration of your camping experience, especially if the whole family comes along with you!

Most Storage: Winnebago Voyage

  • Multiple floor plans sleeping up to 8
  • Plenty of features including electric fireplaces and outdoor kitchens
  • Solar included with the option to add more
  • Fairly high price point that will only grow higher

The Winnebago Voyage won RV News’ award for the best travel trailer of the year in 2022, and it’s no secret why this happened. Starting at $63k, this isn’t a cheap RV- but what it lacks in affordability it makes up for in features and comfort. Let’s check out how much storage the Voyage has now!

Winnebago has made great strides in the past decade in terms of its interior design, unique Innovations for RV owners, and the ability to sleep a large family in a small space. The Voyage offers RV owners plenty of storage without sacrificing living space or sleeping arrangements, giving you plenty of options for your family.

There are six floor plans for the Voyage, sleeping anywhere from four to eight people, depending on the overall length of the RV. Speaking of length, the Voyage ranges in length from 27 feet to 39 feet, giving you plenty of options depending on how comfortable you are with towing.

Depending on the option you choose, you have bunkhouses, outdoor kitchens, large master suites, and more. There are electric fireplaces, impressive chef’s kitchens, and storage in every single location of this RV. While the interior design isn’t particularly special, especially at this price point, it truly has multiple great features to offer you and your family.

You have some solar included standard as well as a number of other helpful boondocking features, but Winnebago also offers two separate packages to further extend your camping season. You can choose from either a climate upgrade that gives you added insulation or a boondocking upgrade that gives you even more solar panels and capabilities.

In addition, you can upgrade to a king size bed or add washers and dryers, as well as larger refrigerators if you plan on camping for an extended period of time. Winnebago has your back, but all of this does come at a high price. If you want this RV built for the long haul, you may be surprised at how much you end up paying!

Most Luxurious: Airstream Flying Cloud

  • Floor plan choices allow you to sleep up to 8 people
  • Luxurious interior design as well as exterior finishes
  • Upholstery and interior finishes are built to last
  • High price point, especially for the bunk house floor plan

If you thought the last RV on this list was fairly expensive, then maybe you should skip our most luxurious choice: the Airstream Flying Cloud. Starting at $94k, the Flying Cloud is outside of many budgets, but it truly makes up for this in its luxury and available floor plans. Let’s check it out now.

While not all floor plans on the Flying Cloud suit all families, it does offer roughly eight different options for you to choose from. The reason not all floor plans will work for large families it’s the fact that this RV starts at 23 feet in length. The longest option available from Airstream for this particular model is 30 feet in length, so you may still feel a little cramped if you plan on camping with a large group.

Despite this compact frame, you can sleep anywhere from four to eight people depending on the floor plan, with an available bunk floor plan sleeping 8 individuals. The best part of this RV has to be the interior design and special touches found throughout. But what are some of those features? Let’s check them out now.

You have Airstream’s signature aluminum found throughout the interior of this RV, as well as plenty of additional features to help you enjoy the inside of your RV. For example, Airstream uses ultra-leather that doesn’t fade, crack, or experience wear over a long period of time, giving you an RV with exceptional resale value.

Besides this, the Airstream Flying Cloud also gives you a few incredibly unique floor plans, including one with a dedicated office space. While this may not be what you are looking for, especially when you consider that it doesn’t sleep very many people, the Flying Cloud maintains a unique number of floor plans that you won’t find anywhere else.

Best for Families with Pets: Coachmen Northern Spirit

  • Budget-friendly with special touches
  • Multiple floor plans and bunk bed choices
  • Plenty of storage and pet friendly features
  • The largest floor plans are fairly heavy

If your dogs and cats are just as much a part of your family as everyone else, you should definitely check out the Coachmen Northern Spirit. This budget-friendly RV is ideal for those of you who enjoy the special touches, especially ones that are made for pets . Let’s check out this RV in more detail now.

The Northern Spirit has 9 available floor plans, all of which are complete with pet-friendly features. You have an exterior hook to keep your dog latched up while you unload the car, as well as a dedicated bowl area that is in a drawer, perfect for storing while on the road.

This particular travel trailer ranges in length, from 24 feet to 37 feet. The larger you go, the more it weighs, as the longest Northern Spirit option weighs over 8,000 pounds. This is important to note, especially if your tow vehicle can’t handle something of this size.

When it comes to sleeping the kiddos, there are multiple floor plans with bunk beds, and some even have double bunks. You have many dedicated sleeping and living areas, which should feel spacious enough for the entire family, including your dogs or cats.

It isn’t just the pets that get special features. You have convenience accessories found throughout the RV, including bottle openers, convenience centers for the kiddos in the bunk bed areas, and much more. All of this is included in the standard purchase price, which is also something that comes in handy for your budget.

The interior design is easy to clean and fairly simple, but it remains light and bright. You also have plenty of storage both inside and out, which means you don’t have to leave anything or anyone behind. This is a great option for those of you who are worried about fitting everything, as Coachmen makes sure that you want for nothing!

Four-Season Ready: Highland Ridge RV Mesa Ridge S-Lite

  • Great budget-friendly purchase price
  • Lightweight and easy to tow
  • Great for camping year round
  • Pretty boring interior design

Starting at $38k, the Mesa Ridge S-Lite is a great choice for those of you who want to camp all year round. Not only is it budget-friendly and packed with features, but this option from Highland Ridge RV also gives you a lightweight travel trailer to start with, as all models range in weight from 4,000-6,000 pounds. Let’s check it out!

With 7 floor plans that sleep anywhere from 4 to 10 people, you have plenty of things to choose from with the Mesa Ridge. There are bunk bed floor plans as well as options that give you king-size beds, which should mean that there’s plenty of space for the entire family.

In terms of storage there’s plenty both inside and out, including motion-activated LED lit exterior storage. You also get many different options for making this RV your own, including two different solar packages and upgraded furniture in the interior of the RV. Keep in mind that this isn’t included in the budget friendly purchase price, but you can truly make this RV your own if you have the budget for it.

In terms of camping year-round, this RV has a walkable roof and a heated underbelly so that you can maintain your travel trailer no matter the weather . Having a heated underbelly and holding tanks means that you don’t have to worry about it getting too cold and freezing your water lines, something that plagues many RVers throughout the years.

You may have already guessed this, but to keep this RV budget-friendly as well as easy to maintain, the Mesa Ridge is fairly lacking in terms of its interior design. While it’s a fairly standard RV with black and gray finishes, you likely won’t be spending too much time inside after all!

Best for Boondocking: Forest River Ibex

  • Plenty of boondocking features included standard
  • Multiple floor plans that are lightweight
  • Raised chassis and all-terrain tires included
  • Some floor plans may not sleep everyone

Speaking of an RV that is built for year-round camping, you could also say the same about the Forest River Ibex. This RV has a slightly higher initial purchase price compared to other options on this list, but it offers its customers everything you can need, especially if you plan on boondocking or camping anywhere in inclement weather. Let’s take a look at this RV in more detail now!

One of the coolest things to point out about the Ibex is the fact that it offers seven different floor plans, with some variation in the width of the RV. For example, a couple of options are seven and a half feet wide, while other options are 8 feet wide. While this may not seem like a huge difference, having that extra space across makes the interior feel much more spacious.

Not only is the Ibex lightweight and towable by a number of different cars and trucks, but it also has cold weather features included as standard. You also get a certain amount of solar panels also included, and large residential refrigerators standard as well. But this isn’t even the end of our list of features that are included without you having to pay anything extra.

The Ibex is made for boondocking, and this includes getting off the beaten path. All Ibex floor plans have a raised chassis that allows you to hit the road, no matter what condition the road is in. Plus, you even get all terrain tires included on this initial purchase price, something that very few other RVs can say.

If you have a particularly adventurous family, two of the available floor plans on the Ibex have toy hauler ramp doors at the rear of the RV . This gives you the option to wheel out any ATVs, kayaks, and more without stress. However, these floor plan options may not sleep the number of people that you need them to sleep.

Best Bunkhouse Option: Keystone Cougar Half-Ton

  • 23 available floor plans
  • Bunkhouse options sleep up to a dozen people
  • Fairly lightweight, when you consider the size
  • Price point may be out of some budgets

One of the most popular RV options on the market today has to be the Keystone Cougar Half-Ton. This RV is towable by most trucks and SUVs, offering lightweight floor plans and multiple options at a luxurious price point. Let’s check out what makes this travel trailer special now, especially for families.

Ranging in length from 25 feet to 37 feet, all Cougar models are under 9,000 pounds. Some floor plan options even give you the ability to sleep a dozen people inside, which means that nobody needs to be left behind. This is largely due to the fact that there are multiple bunkhouse options on board the Cougar, which is ideal for families.

One important thing to note about the Cougar is its wide range of prices and 23 available floor plans. You can get a floor plan that starts at $51k, or one that starts at $70k- it all depends on your needs! However, the larger the rig, the more expensive it is, with some of the bunkhouse floor plans costing more than others.

With all of this in mind, the Cougar is special for a number of reasons. There are multiple bunk beds in designated sleeping rooms, giving you privacy and a bit more peace and quiet should you choose to camp with a bunch of kids. Plus, the kitchen and bathrooms are all well appointed and easy to maintain.

Despite this wide range of prices, you have a number of features included standard, including basic solar abilities . You also have a few different interior design options, depending on your own particular style. The kitchen in particular is beautiful, complete with a residential size fridge in the kitchen that fits food for the entire family.

However, the price point on this particular option may be too high, and you may find that this rig is still too heavy for your vehicle to tow. However, if you are looking for a travel trailer that is a great investment and has space for up to a dozen people, you should definitely check out the Cougar.

Runner-Up: Forest River Rockwood

  • Multiple unique floor plans
  • Elegant interior design and features
  • Plenty of ways that you can customize
  • Very heavy for the average tow vehicle

Forest River has a number of travel trailers and its current roster, but the Rockwood has a lot to offer the average family. With 7 available floor plans that sleep multiple people, The Rockwood feels luxurious without being too expensive. It’s our runner-up for the best overall choice, and let’s take a look at why this is true.

One of the main reasons you might choose the Rockwood is for its elegant interior design and electric fireplaces. There are only a few bunk beds available on this particular travel trailer, but with convertible couches and dining areas, you can still sleep the whole family.

One of the main reasons that the Rockwood didn’t take our top overall spot is the fact that it is very heavy. Some of the makes and models of this particular RV reach nearly ten thousand pounds, which is not ideal for the average tow vehicle. However, if you have the capacity, this RV truly has a lot to offer.

One of the things that this RV can offer the average consumer is convenience. the Rockwood has auto-leveling involved in its standard purchase price, as well as a number of other storage solutions to help you feel at ease while camping. Plus, the kitchens and bathrooms are stunning, no matter what furnishings you choose.

With the option to add a washer and dryer, an elegant kitchen island, and so much more, the Rockwood feels more like home than an RV. However, with a higher than the average purchase price and a few other key features, it may not be right for you. Do check it out if you are looking for something sturdy with resale value that can still sleep everyone!

Final Thoughts

When it comes to choosing a family-friendly travel trailer, you may feel overwhelmed when you first start shopping. Given just how many options there are on the market today, you need to make sure that you have a good time narrowing down your list of favorites with our help.

At the end of the day, having an RV that makes the entire family comfortable is what matters. Hit the road in comfort, style, and all of the amenities that travel trailers built for families have to offer!

quad bunk travel trailers

Top 7 best quad bunkhouse travel trailers for full time rVing families

Aaron Richardson

  • Last Updated: February 22, 2024
  • 13 minutes read

If you’re traveling as a family, it can be tricky to find travel trailers with enough sleeping accommodations for everyone.

Although many travel trailers have sofa beds and convertible dinettes, these sleeping areas may only accommodate two or three people. You also have to convert your living space every night when it’s time for bed.

An excellent solution is travel trailers with a dedicated bunkhouse at the rear of the vehicle.

Some trailers have four bunks, so that you don’t need to bother transforming your living area each night.

A quad bunk travel trailer provides more privacy and comfort, since the bunkhouse is essentially a second bedroom.

Many of these trailer layouts also include additional outdoor kitchens for prepping large meals, higher capacity water tanks to support more people, and additional features or systems for accommodating families.

To help you in your search for the best travel trailer with quad bunks, I’ve done some research to show you the best travel trailer models with the most agreeable quad bunkhouse floorplans for traveling with large families.

10 Best Travel Trailers For Families Of 6: (Walkthrough Tours)

A travel trailer can be a great investment for a family. Even people who don’t usually enjoy camping are sure to appreciate the freedom and comfort that can provide.

However, travel trailers come in many different shapes and sizes, and not all of them are suitable for families.

Before you begin your search, take a look at the following list. In our opinion, these are the ten best travel trailers for families on the current market. Read on to find out why.

Table of Contents

What Families Should Look For In A Travel Trailer

Large families of 5 or more should look for a trailer that measures at least 25 feet long, while smaller groups could probably get by with a 20-foot camper.

On the subject of height, check the state regulations for the areas that are of greatest interest to you. Generally speaking, travel trailers can’t be taller than 13 feet 6 inches tall , but it’s best to make sure before you hit the road.

Sleeping Capacity

For obvious reasons, you’ll want a camper that has a comfortable sleeping space for the entire family. You might even want to consider a unit that has an extra bed or bunk beds, just in case if your a large family.

Remember that the children will grow, but the camper will stay the same size. It’s best to invest in one that will be able to accommodate everyone right from the start.

When shopping for a travel trailer, pay close attention to the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). This number refers to the maximum loaded weight of the travel trailer, including cargo and passengers.

You’ll want to make sure the GVWR is lower than the overall towing capacity of your vehicle. Otherwise, you won’t be able to safely transport the trailer.

Personal Appeal

Do you enjoy cooking most of your meals outdoors? Would you prefer a bathroom with a full tub, or would you be happy with a stall shower? What about the configuration of the sleeping areas or a tri fold sofa?

With so many different floor plans, only you can determine whether the layout and features of a certain trailer will suit your family’s needs.

Best Travel Trailers For Families: Product Review Guide

In this guide, we’ll provide brief reviews of each model listed, explaining why we believe they’d be a good fit for a family unit. See the table below for a list of basic specifications.

*For travel purposes, these numbers refer to the length and exterior height of the Jay Sport 12UD when the camper is in the “closed” position.

Minnie Plus 27BHSS

If you’re looking for creature comforts, the Minnie Plus 27BHSS has you covered. This unit features an outdoor kitchen, an entertainment center, and plenty of storage. A queen bed and double bunks round out the sleeping options.

Manufacturers Website

Livin’ Lite Camplite CL23RLS

Livin’ Lite’s CL23RLS model has a sleekly attractive exterior and a cozy yet roomy interior, capable of sleeping 6 people.

The dinette converts into a bed, as does the comfortable sofa. A queen bed gives the parents room to stretch out, but be forewarned that the bed area isn’t closed off from the living space.

The outdoor kitchen is well-appointed, with ample hooks for storing all your tools.

Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 224 BHW

The Jay Flight offers several different floor plans, but we think the SLX8 224BHW is the most convenient choice for families.

With a master bedroom located in the front, a central living area, and a rear bunkhouse, the layout is convenient for everyone. The shower is especially spacious, a huge plus if there are teenagers in your party.

Forest River Alpha Wolf

The Alpha Wolf features a walk-in pantry and outdoor kitchen, making it a great choice for cooking enthusiasts who like to hone their skills on vacation

. Some later models also include a rear bath with full tub—a luxurious touch that’s sure to come in handy after long days spent in the woods.

Coachmen Keystone Bullet Crossfire 1650EX

The Bullet Crossfire 1650EX is an expandable trailer, offering a queen-sized bed on one end and an optional foldout with an additional queen bed on the other.

The sofa and dinette can be converted to sleeping space for a large family, but the extension is a nice option for smaller groups who prefer to keep the living space as-is for the duration of your trip.

Heartland Trail Runner 27 ODK

The outdoor kitchen on the Trail Runner 27ODK is made all the more appealing with the addition of outdoor speakers, which allow chefs to groove to their favorite tunes while they cook.

The indoor kitchen is also conveniently laid out, with a good-sized refrigerator and freezer. There’s a queen bed in the master bedroom, as well as a fold-out sofa.

Keystone Outback Ultra Lite 210URS

The king-sized bed and tub/shower combo make this an especially appealing option. Consider the Outback Ultra Lite 210URS if you would prefer private sleeping areas for both the children and the adults.

Bear in mind that if there are more than two kids in the party, one of them will have to crash on the sofa sleeper just outside the master bedroom.

Shasta Oasis 18BH

The Oasis 18BH is a particularly stylish trailer, with a fully equipped kitchen and roomy storage spaces. Like the Keystone Outback, it features a separate bedroom with a queen-sized bed with a bunkhouse on the other end. Some layouts even offer a full bathtub.

Forest River Salem 31KQBTS

This model is equipped with two entertainment centers, one of which is located in the master suite. No need for the kids to fight with the parents over the remote on rainy days—everyone can have their own space.

Note that the Salem 31KQBTS measures over 36 feet in length, meaning that it may be too large for some campgrounds and RV parks. Parking and maneuvering could be difficult as well.

Jayco Jay Sport 12UD

Unlike the other units we’ve listed, this is a pop up camper rather than a full-sized travel trailer. However, privacy curtains and separate sleeping areas located on each end of the camper make it feel more spacious than it looks.

Families who are apprehensive about towing a full-sized camper would do well to consider the Jay Sport 12UD before investing in a larger unit.

In Conclusion

While the final choice rests with the consumer, we would strongly recommend the Keystone Outback Ultra Lite 210URS . At just 23 feet long, with a GVWR of 6,500, it’s small and light enough for easy maneuvering, but provides all the comforts of home. For families of 6 or more, it could get a bit cramped, but for anyone else, it’s a clear winner.

Good luck, and happy camping!

Best Small Travel Trailers for Full-Time Living for a Single Person or Couples

  • Terra Rover Travel Trailer by inTech: Best Small Camper to Live in 4-Season
  • Alta LE 1600MRB: Small Travel Trailer by East and West RV

Terra Rover 4-Season Travel Trailer for Full-Time Living

inTech Terra Rover Travel Trailer, available in the USA and Canada, is a lightweight fantastic trailer for single people and couples pursuing full-time camper living during the 4-seasons.

The main difference between Terra Rover and the rest of the travel trailers suggested in this article is the structure, materials, exquisite interior design, and how well-prepared this travel trailer is for a 4-season full-time living.

Buying a four-season-ready RV for full-time living offers numerous advantages, such as making it possible (and easy) to live safely and comfortably during severe weather. Foremost, it reduces energy consumption and provides cost-effective insulation. Also, it offers flexible living arrangements and the freedom to move and explore different places; because one may live off-grid and reduce dependency on outside resources, it fosters a sense of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Last but not least, it provides a distinctive and exciting living experience, with chances to explore nature and lead a more eco-friendly and sustainable existence. Definitely, Terra Rover Tby inTech is one of the best campers to live in cold weather .

Even though this travel trailer is meant for 4 people, I would recommend the inTech Rover as one of the best travel trailers for single people or couples for full-time living and establishing their workstation in the front 93″ x 48″ dinette.

Terra Rover 4-Season Travel Trailer for Full-Time Living

Unlike most RVs, the Terra Rover features a bathroom and shower in separate cubicles with its own ventilation. With no slides-out, it’s spacious enough for 1 or 2 people and even the company of your four-legged friend. And at the same time, the dinette can easily be converted into a guest room. With an indoor and outdoor kitchen, it allows you to enjoy your meals and cook in comfort.

Good materials and furniture finishes. Excellent quality and customer service. Lightweight (GVWR 7,500 lbs.) and durable due to the structure and high-quality materials used.

fiberglass Travel Trailer review canada 2023

The capacity of the tanks is adequate for the number of people proposed in this review (fresh water tank of 44 gallons, gray water tank of 39 gallons, black water tank of 39 gallons).

Another advantage that allows full-time living independent of external temperature is that it has a furnace, air-conditioning, water heater, heated underbelly, etc. You get into a Terra Rover and never get out again! Here are some details of the specifications, furnace of 25K BTU, A/C of 15K BTU ducted, water heater of 6 gallons (electric or gas), insulation bubble foil in walls and ceiling, tank insulation heated underbelly, 12v line heaters, tank heat pads, etc.

As if that wasn’t enough, you enjoy a genuine 60″ x 80″ queen size bed in the bedroom, with storage space.

If all this hasn’t convinced you or if this RV brand is new to you, I recommend you watch this video to learn more about the Rover Terra travel trailer by inTech and its possibilities as a 4-season trailer for full-time living.

Terra Rover Travel Trailer video

The only disadvantage I will mention, but I must clarify that it is not necessarily a disadvantage for all RVers who plan to live full time in a camper, is that it is unprepared for a washer and dryer. You will hardly find available space on the floor plan for its installation.

Alta 1600MRB Small Camper to Live In for Singles and Couples

Alta LE 1600MRB by East to West RV is one of the best campers to live in . It is an excellent option for a full-time living travel trailer for a single person or couples looking to work remotely, as the booth dinette offers a great working space area for 2 people with laptops.

As you can see in the floor plan below, this Alta LE 1600MRB Travel Trailer has the propane low-pressure quick connection available for your outside grill to prepare your meals outside under a 14 ft powered awning with LED lights. The exterior also has massive pass-thru storage compartments, a ladder in the back to access the trailer roof, and a shower with hot and cold water.

Small Travel Trailer for Full-Time Living for a Single Person and Couples

At the left of the entry door, you will find a large booth dinette with space to store under the seats and prepared for an optional 32” Smart LED TV. Across from there is a fully kitchen-equipped area with a 3-burner top stove, a large kitchen sink, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, and drawers and cabinets.

The rear full dry bath is opposite the front Queen-size Murphy bed and sofa. The full bath is dry and includes a hand basin, a foot flushable toilet, skylights and vent, a linen closet, and a shower with skylight.

Between wardrobes, cabinets, the exterior storage compartment, and the large dinette, this travel trailer, only 23 feet in length and under 6,000 pounds, offers plenty of space and is perfect for full-time living for a single person or couples.

We began this article by stating that we will place particular emphasis on specific features that will make our full-time living travel trailer more comfortable , such as the kitchen location, ventilation while cooking, space for cooking, washer and dryer prep, pantry space, over the head cabinets and exterior storage, residential-sized appliances, king-sized bed, easy winterization or four-season features, and so on.

If the budget is not an obstacle, families thinking of moving permanently into an RV to live full-time should consider these mentioned points, and Reflection 312BHTS is a 2-Bedroom travel trailer by Grand Design RV that covers all these desirable features in one of the best luxury travel trailers for full time living with a family.

The 2-Bedroom travel trailer Reflection 312BHTS is completely equipped with everything you need and want for long-term RV life, as seen in the layout below.

best travel trailer for full time living with a family

To enjoy the outside, there is a large awning (21′) and a deluxe outdoor kitchen equipped with a griddle, sink, mini refrigerator, and low-pressure quick hookups. A large pass-through exterior storage compartment will help you keep the inside of your trailer tidy. Also, it is equipped with a functional outside shower.

Moreover, the Reflection series is prepared for full-time living during the 4-season. Some of the features in the winterization package of this 4-season travel trailer include the heated and enclosed dump valves and the underbelly with recirculating heat, both of them recommended to face extreme temperatures. Additionally, the insulated walls and slide-out floors, the thermo-foil insulation under holding tanks, and the EZ winterization valve will help you to preserve the RV energy expended in heating the trailer. Furthermore, the furnace and the fireplace are good features. Exactly what a family needs to live full-time.

As soon as you cross the entry door, you will find the fantastic full-dry bathroom of this trailer . The bathroom includes a large medicine cabinet with a mirror, a large vanity top with a deep hand sink, a porcelain foot-flushable toilet, and a spacious 30” x 36” shower with a sliding glass door and expansive view skylight over the shower, and a vent fan.

The front queen master bedroom is located to the right of the main door and features a dresser, over-the-head cabinets, drawers, and a wardrobe closet prepared with washing and dryer combo connections. The queen mattress is 60” x 80” with a residential bedspread and includes oversized bed base storage. This room is set up to accommodate a TV on the wall-mounted TV provided.

As you go through this RV, it is easy to understand why we propose the Reflection 312BHTS as one of the best travel trailers for full-time living.

Using only beds and bunks, the sleeping capacity of this trailer is up to 4 people. Depending on your options, you may fold down sofas and the dinette, increasing the sleeping space up to 7-8 people when receiving visitors.

At the left of the entry door, you will find the first of the 3 slides out and one of the biggest living rooms with a fireplace and kitchen you may find in a travel trailer. Atypical for a travel trailer, this floor plan seems like a fifth-wheel trailer from the inside.

The slide-out closer to the entry door proposes locating a booth dinette and a theatre seating. An optional free-standing dinette and a tri-fold sofa could replace the section.

The nice island kitchen improves the space to prep gourmet meals and serves to connect a fully equipped slide-out kitchen with residential appliances, moving you around the entertainment center.

Finally, at the rear of this family bunk travel trailer is located in the private second bedroom. The rear bunk room for 4 people with two bunk beds, a tri-fold sofa, an entertainment center, drawers, and a wardrobe closet is perfect for families pursuing full-time camper living.

What Travel Trailers to Avoid for Full-Time Living and Why

Here are the campers to avoid for live in full-time.

Alpha Wolf Floor plans are not recommended for full-time living but are great for traveling.

Although the Cherokee Alpha Wolf line offers excellent value for the price, they are spacious, well-finished, and often our recommended floor plans. In this case, we believe they are not the Forest River floor plans we would recommend for families with children who choose to live full-time in a travel trailer.

Certain features are recommended for full-time living in a travel trailer; an entertainment center in the bunkhouse is essential and gives parents significant advantages in separating activities and privacy. Also, we mentioned earlier how important it is for the booth dinette to provide the right size for the number of people in the RV.

For example, the 2023 Cherokee Alpha Wolf 30RDB-L has two bunk beds in a bunk room. However, no entertainment center is located inside the bunk room. The Alpha Wolf 30DBH-L has the same issue. So, you will need to jump to the floor plan of Alpha Wolf 33BH-L, which includes the entertainment center appreciated when living full-time in a travel trailer with kids. However, in this model, the dinette is short-sized for only four people.

Don’t get me wrong. Alpha Wolf travel trailers are great for vacation. They are a good choice in other circumstances but not recommended for full-time living.

According to owners, Winnebago Travel Trailers are not recommended for full-time living.

It is expensive, common, and without any of the features necessary for comfortable RV living. Many RVers may have decided on this camper to establish their full-time lifestyle. But if you have the budget, go for other models and floor plans that offer what will be a priority for camper living.

Airstream Travel Trailers: Lack of Comfort for Families

Users after RV renting manifest Airstream Travel Trailers are too expensive without any comfort for a family. You pay for excellent design (if you like something super retro) and the publicity Airstream spends to appear in Hollywood in every movie they can. But you don’t pay for comfort, versatility, and high quality of life. It makes sense because they are not designed for full-time living.

We recently had our chance to rent an Airstream Classic 33FB for a week, a very long 33+ feet and a heavy 10,000 pounds.  Even for a couple like us, with no grandchildren to accompany us on this occasion, both of us working sporadically on our laptops, the cramped interior was tedious. It is impossible to prepare anything other than a simple meal because the lack of space is appalling. The absence of slides-out worsens the circulation, and we are lucky to be slim. Otherwise, using the shower or even sharing the circulation in a corridor is complicated.

How expensive? For 2023, the Airstream Classic 33FB has a starting price of $206,500, and the International 30RB is $137,400, Flying Cloud® 30FB Bunk, suitable for a family with kids, has a starting price of $124,500.

Possible RV Brands to Avoid for Not a Great Customer Service

Chinook RV and Gulf Stream’s top the list of worst customer services in RVers’ forum surveys.

However, any company can change and improve in this area. A couple of years ago, Keystone RV did not offer good customer service. However, they changed radically, and today are one of the best companies with plenty of floor plans to recommend.

We hope you find this article reviewing the 12 Best Travel Trailers for Full-Time Living handy to learn more about the critical decision you are about to take.

Can Any Travel Trailer Be Used for Full-Time Living?

Technically you can live full time in any travel trailer, but we wouldn't advise it. Most full-timers prefer to live in travel trailers , fifth wheels , or motorhomes , because they're spacious enough, boast all the amenities you need, and have enough capacity in the water tanks and stuff so you don't have to do all the dirty work every single day.

With travel trailers, it's also a good idea to choose a lightweight travel trailer for full-time living, because they can be more awkward to tow than 5th wheels .

What Makes a Travel Trailer Great For Full-Time Living

Travel trailers can be great for full time living, because they possess many features you need.

Appropriate Layout

Designers and manufacturers of travel trailers are more focused on the right layout rather than making it more spacious by increasing in size. Optimizing the space keeps it light and ensures a trailer is easier to tow.
