First proper cruise experience

First proper cruise experience, Norwegian fjords March 2024.No extras purchased as first time and went ashore each venue and did our own thing. Really enjoyed and life on board was good, cabin fine and food brilliant. Excellent value for money

Fabulous Cruise on IONA

Fabulous Cruise on IONA, first timers with P & O. Wonderful Ship, Captain and staff, food, choice of restaurants and entertainment, excellent activities and the team. Can't fault it 5⭐️ and we have rebooted same ship, same room but different itenary with £300 on-board spend and 10% off. Brilliant ship for first timers & families, excellent choice

Thoroughly enjoyed my cruise to Norway

Thoroughly enjoyed my cruise to Norway. Excellent on board speaker. Superb staff. Wonderful ship. Clean. Super cabins. Very modern. Good choice of restaurants. Plenty of time in Ports. Variety of entertainment.

Booked with confidence/extremely helpful and knowledgeable Advisor

Booked cruise yesterday evening. Advisor was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the cruise ship that I was enquiring about. I did not feel rushed to make a decision when trying to choose a cabin. They were helpful/patient in that they were able to provide information on the location of the cabins which was very impressive and which helped me make the right choice of cabin for myself and husband. Advisor is a credit to P&O. Thank you!

Very Good Call Centre Experience

Booked two cruises this morning on the first day of general sale. Given that the call centre staff must be under a lot of pressure today, I did not feel rushed, everything was explained to me as if I was a first time cruiser. Unfortunately I did not catch the name of the person who completed my booking but she was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Britannia total Mess after refit

We boarded the first day after the refit which was total chaos as the IT system was not working properly so it took an hour to get onboard (normally 10 mins) after getting on the ship to crowds of people looking lost we understood why. Our cabin was deck 8 and we came on at deck 7. So we headed to the mid stairwell lifts to find the stairs go down but crew only for up. Massive que of people waiting for lifts so went to ask to be told walk to the other end of the ship ! Eventually we go to our room dirty glasses all mirrors had smears on them not cleaned very well at all. The ship is very cold in all public areas and a coat needed at all times. During our cruise the following problems. The TV in the room awful remote control and if you watched a film it would keep stopping making anything you watch unwatchable. The expensive Starlink wifi was like dial up very patchy and slow. When you got off the ship only one entrance with one scanner and 4000 people to get back on board at a snails pace taking over an hour. We were told before getting on the ship it's love it or hate it and we definitely hated it.

Me & my wife have cruised with P&O for…

Me & my wife have cruised with P&O for many years but have sadly noticed a drastic reduction in quality and service in recent years. The menu in the dining rooms is limited and quite frankly boring...I reluctantly ended up having steak every night! The puddings are mainly mousse served up in different ways! And the number of waiters in the bar areas has reduced dramatically resulting in people waiting for long periods to get served. Often getting agitated Very disappointed and so in future we will be looking to book our 2 cruises with another company

Susie was so patient and helpful with the 2 queries I had. She went out of her way to correct my partner's loyalty tier which was was incorrect due to an error on my part whilst booking. I didn't feel at all rushed or just 'one more in the queue'. Such a lovely lady and a great P&O ambassador.

Affordable fun & friendly

We had a fabulous experience at a price that was affordable. The ship is beautiful and well kept. Food was of good quality and cabins clean and adequate. We worked out it was cheaper to cruise than to stay in a hotel in the UK and we got to visit 3 ports. No brainer, really.

Just been to Norway on the P&O IONA

Just been to Norway on the P&O IONA. Overall the ship is OK. There is nothing wrong with it as such, just a little vanilla. It is very annoying that you cannot get doubles on the classic drinks packs or simply pay for the extra shot. No you have to pay for the entire drink. All pretty pointless, especially as the drinks are limited. So MSC really do win on this. We went to most of the paid restaurants, though the menus are very limited and I had Steak most of the time. The steaks were generally cooked great. I love ships that have the large "street" in the middle. This ship seems a disjointed. with venues and restaurants all over the place. Finally one of our excursions was cancelled and for some reason the other paid trip was little more than a map for us to go look around by ourselves. Anyhow it was a decent cruise and we will go on P&O again, but I feel MSC have more to offer.

We will never travel with P&O again

We will never travel with P&O again. We booked for NY to the Caribbean with PE flights with TUI as my husband suffers with his back. When a company quotes that we have the legal right to unilaterally change your flights the day after you settled the bill you know they don’t care about customers. I’d never heard maleth airlines and you can read the reports on them do refused to fly with them. CEO was unresponsive. Cruise was poor quality too. Outdated dress codes where men must wear trousers and not smart shorts in restaurants. Royal Caribbean so much better - the quality of their ships, the food, the activities and they care about customers.

Highest Quality provided

Highest Quality provided. This was our 6th and best cruise. Cabin clean spacious and well equipped for a wheelchair user with electronic doors, adjustable hand basin, wet floor shower. Staff all friendly and helpful. Good entertainment provided. Good selection of food on menus. Virtual queueing avoided delays in getting a table. journey very smooth.

Another brilliant Norwegian cruise on P.O Arcadia. Superb food/entertainment. Lovely clean cabin. Friendly helpful staff. No complaints at all.😃

P&O I will never cruise again

Problems with P&O: .Horizon never loads . Very poor and limited standard of food that is cook awfully . Excursions well over priced and can book cheaper when at destinations . Staff with bad language barriers . Very unhelpful at answering queries . Poor entertainment for anyone below 40 . Very unorganised and dissapointing . Arcadia needs a refurbishment . Too many "black tie" and stupid events

Iona is a city ship not a small town

This is our second time on Iona it's a beautiful ship we felt safe and well looked after. It is very busy , in future I will consider a smaller ship. The swimming pool in the sky dome isn't very big for families and everyone else as well. The infinity pools on the deck are outside so when the weather is cold there is only the one pool inside. The whirlpools around the ship were also always in use. The cruise itself to Norway was enjoyable and we appreciated our lovely cabin 4479 on deck 4, very easy and quiet. The evenings are lovely and easy to find a bar or some entertainment. The views from the ship of beautiful Norway on this cruise are breathtaking.

Still chuckling at a previous review…

Still chuckling at a previous review which comments that standards and clientele have 'dropped off' and there are more Northerners on the cruises since Covid... not sure if the reviewer thinks this is connected... anyway I'm a Northerner and l really enjoyed my second P&O fiords cruise. This was on Iona, a beautiful ship with comfy cabins, lots of restaurants, bars, entertainments facilities etc. For me though, Iona was too big. l preferred Azura... it had everything we needed, food and service was excellent and was much easier to get around. The ports of call were much better too... maybe because a smaller ship could navigate the fiords more easily. In all though a fab holiday, we were well looked after and had a great time.

First cruise was amazing

First cruise experience and overall we had an amazing time. A couple of negatives - the first and main one being the time taken to get a drink in any of the bars onboard - lack of staff and having to sit at a table and wait for a waiter to spot you and come over means that by the time you’ve finished your first drink it’s then another wait to get a second one. Second minor gripe is that the lifts take forever and are often full. Whilst this doesn’t overly affect me people with reduced mobility would struggle and are ok for a fairly long wait. Everything else was perfect, staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us.

Love to cruise

Love to cruise. Enjoy visiting new places, sight seeing and experiencing new things. I enjoy having the formal days, makes the holiday experience special as don’t have many occasions to get dressed up. Also like that I can dress casual if I want Enjoy the fun of the sail away Like having the choice of waiter service or buffet. Like that my holiday experience is personal to me

Disappointed- previous staff member

I use to work for this company a few months ago and I must admit, I regret it. I booked a cruise in April 2023 whilst working for the company, which meant we got 75% off. The cruise was for May 2024. I was offered another opportunity in July where I had to leave the company. 3 weeks before the cruise, the company cancelled my cruise without me knowing. All I got was a cancellation invoice and I thought it was a scam. Until I rang the company, they said the policy has changed and how I no longer work for the company. I can only join the cruise if I pay an extra £2700. This was 3 weeks before the cruise! I had booked my train tickets to Southampton and insurance. This company does not give a s***. Then they said they will refund me the money, they’ve only sent me less than 25% of the amount I paid! I am disgusted with this company and will take them to court if I don’t receive my full refund. This has put me off cruising with them and I would give zero stars if I could.

P&o offer an excellent good value for money cruising experience. The staff could not do better but staff numbers have been reduced meaning that although they work extremely hard to please you there can be long waits for service. The food is generally good but it has reduced in quality and choice in recent times

First time cruisers

First time cruisers to the Norwegian fjords and loved it. Ship huge but comfortable and cabins excellent - loved wrapping up and sitting to watch the world go by. We never had a problem with the food - the Olive Grove was great. Just sitting quietly in the atrium with a drink and book was so relaxing. Downside was the celebration night was not really that or felt special. Probably would not participate again. Staff were fantastic but seemed to be in short supply which meant longer wait for drinks but hey-ho we weren't going anywhere in a hurry and went with the flow! Six course taster menu in Epicurean was OK but not really worth the additional money. We bought the Captains wine package and had some trouble working out how to access the wine 🍷! In the end it was about the destination- weather and Olden amazing! Disappointed with Haugesund so would recommend a trip when there. We would definitely cruise again.

I have been on six cruises with P & O

I have been on six cruises with P & O, just returned from cruise number 6 (Azura - Mediterranean 7 nights). Met lots of lovely people at dinner, some of whom have been cruising for years. We have noticed small drops in the quality of service and food choices. 25 years ago, a cruise felt like complete luxury and now its just another way to holiday. It hasn't put me off cruising in future, but will definitely try another operator when I book again. It is still a perfect way to see lots of different places in one trip and I would recommend sightseeing independently as P & O charge a lot for their port trips. We had an inside cabin on Azura which was really poky and difficult to get around the bed area due to the bunk beds stored on the walls at either side (which were not flush to the wall but protruding around 8 inches meaning you had to side step and bend forwards to avoid them) - we wished we had booked a larger room, but was ok for a 7 night trip. Love the My Holiday app, which you can use to join a virtual queue for dinner as it saves hanging around the restaurants and you can just go and get a drink while waiting. Its difficult to get a sunbed when the sun is out, and you can't reserve a spot, so best to get out early if you want one. Years ago, you were offered cheese and crackers after your meal in the restaturants and could choose what you liked, now you just get a pre-prepared plate which always includes blue cheese so if you dont like that, its tough, and you have to order it as a desert now. A cruise is still good value for money but I would say that its not really a luxury holiday anymore..

Exceeded expectations but the usual moaning pax need to choose another trip!

Exceeded expectations for sure! I can’t believe what an amazing trip this was. 13th April to the Fjords. (IONA) Everything was perfect apart from the fact I caught COVID, but carried on regardless. Staff were amazing and always happy, no issues, fab cabin (5454)) and the balcony was a godsend. Experienced so much and catching the Northern Lights was just awesome and I found a duck (if you know you know . The only other problem was a few passengers who did nothing but moan about absolutely NOTHING! The amount of UK pax whining was embarrassing. Get a grip! The shows, the drinks prices etc and winning big on the casino made my cruise! Can’t wait to go back on IONA! 10/10

my family's first ever cruise

As this was my family's first ever cruise, I was in awe of the size and scale of this ship. I found all the staff very attentive and polite. The choice of food was excellent but found areas on the ships bars and restaurants could not be accessed due to them being pre booked prior to sailing. Everything was spotless on the ship and staff were available at any point. I feel there should be lifts throughout the ship dedicated to the disabled community.

I had a reply from P&O which was funny because when I emailed their Customer Services before I wrote my report on Trustpilot they totally ignored me! See below... Very disappointed Very disappointed! Customer Services are useless. Please read their unfair T&C's before you book with them, or via a cruise agent! I had to cancel my solo Fjords cruise 5 months in advance due to personal reasons, so tried to move my deposit to another cruise with my wife. I checked the price which was going to be £600 more but P&O said I could only move my deposit to another solo cruise and then add my wife on. This was £800 more on top of the already more expensive cruise. Ridiculous as my deposit was £175 so it was much cheaper to lose that and re-book a new cruise. Unfortunately due to the unfair pricing I cancelled and lost my deposit rather than book with P&O. Very stupid on their part as we usually cruise once or twice a year with Celebrity and I was giving P&O cruises a go to see what they were like. Their loss as I will not be booking with P&O again. To make things worse I had to pay an extra £25 to Iglu cruises for an admin fee. They are not too clever because I will not be booking with them again either due to poor communication which was caused due to impossibility to contact them once you are booked. Date of experience: 29 March 2024 Edit Reply from P&O Cruises 18 hours ago Hi Bob, we are so sorry to hear of your less than satisfactory experience and please accept our sincerest apologies. We are committed to providing great customer service and therefore we would like to put things right. Please could you email full details to our Guest Support team at ****************************. This is so that we can determine how we can try and resolve your concerns and make improvements where necessary, we value our guest's feedback and their loyalty, so I would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. Best wishes, Daisy - P&O Cruises Social Media Team

Very poor customer service

I have been trying for over one week to contact P&O by phone to order a bunch of flowers to be delivered to a cabin pre cruise. On one occasion I waited 28 minutes on the phone before giving up. It is infuriating and says a lot about how P&O regard their customers. They need to hire more call centre staff or else allow for these purchases to be made on line. I am already disinclined to sail with them again and I haven’t even boarded the ship yet

Great week with P&O on the Iona

Just got back from a week on the Iona. The ship is beautiful. I was worried about our cabin as we had a cheap inside cabin but I was very pleasantly surprised. The bed was really comfortable and the pillows were nice too. It was more spacious than I had expected with an en-suite shower room. The cabin was cleaned every day and our towels changed every day. The entertainment was fabulous. The Iona has its own theatre onboard with staged seating called the Headliners theatre. We went to the 10.30pm show there every night (they do 6.45/8.30/10.30 shows) and it was excellent. The food was amazing in all restaurants although our favourite free restaurant was the Coral Restaurant. The waiting staff were particularly attentive and went the extra mile in there. There are pal ty restaurants to choose from. They also have a buffet restaurant called the Horizon with an abundance of choice and if you were a big big eater well you could like as much as you liked on there and go up for more should you need. Lovely ocean views all around the ship. Went to the cinema which had four screens and you just turn up and take a seat at the showing times Shore excursions were great. Plenty choice depending what you like to do. Great holiday and have booked again next year

I'm a Disable pensioner...p&o .at Christmas to carrabian cruise...food was not good. Over 300 guests queing out the restaurant for Xmas dinner with people trapped in the lifts as no room outside them to get out. . doors open 6.30 free for all for a table disabled pushed over in the rush...unbelievable....Had to book to go to see a show .. some 701 club booked up before you got on . NEVER AGAIN. SHIP WAS THE .IONA ..

this was our second time on the Iona…

this was our second time on the Iona and we said the first time we would not go on her again (we prefer smaller ships) Iona is a beautiful ship and offers real value for money, crew all work extremely hard but could do with more hands on deck to provide the service we are used to from P & O, bring on the next one

Fantastic week on the Azura

We had a fantastic week on the Azura ship. The food was outstanding in the standard restaurants without having to pay extra for the special dining. The entertainment team were incredible and the shows were first class. Overall the ship was amazing and we couldn’t fault anything.

P&0 fjords cruise

Loved our cruise to the fjords. P&0 are a brilliant cruise provider. Staff are lovely especially camille in Brodies bar. She is a tentative member of staff. Nothing is any trouble for her. Trips out are brilliant. I would recommend P &0 every time.

First cruise experience

First cruise experience, the staff were incredible, the ship was great always cleaned and big enough for you not get bored. We went to Norway Fjords - the views were just amazing.

Cruise Fremantle to Broome

Went on cruise Fremantle to Broome. Missed 2 stops because of illness (which is not fault of P&O) but nothing offered ie future cruise. Have been on P&O cruises 5 times now but never get anything for past passengers. Went NCL twice and got drinks and restaurant upgrade for us and 2 guests on cruise Athens to Israel. Bit weak.

Our 1st cruise It was absolutely brilliant amazing we liked it that much we booked another one on the ship for next year we can't wait.

Standards have dropped a bit and the…

Standards have dropped a bit and the clientele has definitely dropped off a cliff. A lot of Northerners on these cruises which wasn’t the case pre-Covid. Biggest gripe on my last Caribbean cruise was the sheer number of passengers walking into the restaurants not bothering to wash their hands, simply walking past the wash basin. Even saw one man cough into the food at the buffet.

Give them a try!

P & O cruises are brilliant, they are welcoming, varied ,generous with facilities etc, and although some of the ships are showing their ages, they are still safe and comfortable to sail on, Nothing is too much trouble and the cruises are varied to suit most interests and pockets. Will be booking again I am sure!

My personal experience on the Iona was…

My personal experience on the Iona was very disappointing, they were understaffed and the staff were wrongly informed. I asked where the smoking area was and I was told by numerous staff it was on deck 17 . It was on deck 18 and took me an hour and a half to find it. The bar never opened and it consisted of 3 ashtrays . There was no cover and not enough seating. There were no staff in the area , no bins near by and many smokers that were not being catered for. For non smokers you may think it doesn’t matter . There were only 2 areas on deck 18 to smoke and only a few lifts that accessed the area. The seating area was next to the sun beds and not very accessible for wheelchairs or mobility aids. If you are fit and mobile and don’t smoke you would probably enjoy it.. having previously been on the Ventura a few years ago which I thoroughly enjoyed, I would not go on the Iona again.

Cool Cruiser

I'm considering booking the 2024 Arcadia World Cruise. For budgeting purposes it would be really helpful if I could know the following:

  • Potential cost of Arcadia WiFi for this 99 day cruise?
  • Potential cost of Excursions for the 35 Port Days?

Thanks so much for any help you can provide,

Larry Davies

Potential cost of Excursions for the 35 Port Days?   Thanks so much for any help you can provide, Larry Davies

There are so many variables in your questions that I don't think anyone can give you a precise answer.

For a very basic wifi package, £7.75 a day.

Excursions - anything between £50 to a lot.

So £800 for wifi, and £2000+ for excursions: but book independent tours for much less.

As an aside, for an around the world cruise, 35 ports seems very low.

The way things are going I cannot budget six months in advance, let alone nearly two years! Wonder how the rise in costs will affect cruise prices and will Arcadia still be in fleet by then?!

I hope she's still there, we're on the 2024 worldie!

Is there not an offer for wi-fi for the full cruise? There's not been one for two years so I can't remember but seem to recall there is.

With the immense cost of a World Cruise, I should think that most people need to budget over several years! Mind you, taking your point about the cost of living, by 2024 it could be cheaper to switch the heating off at home during the winter and go on a long cruise!

Thanks for your input. Just trying to get a general idea of the cost for excursions and WiFi.

Being blunt, if you can afford a world cruise, you can afford wifi and excursions !

Not necessarily! There’s a huge difference between balcony and inside and it might be the case of being able to afford the inside and wifi/excursions or balcony without wifi/excursions.

I suppose so - it was a slightly tongue in cheek comment.

I know - one of your late nighters! Actually, it’s also something I’d like to know but am too lazy to find out.

We are lucky enough to be in a position to have a balcony booked for Arcadia's 2024 worldie.  However, we will not be using the on board wi-fi unless absolutely necessary and it is unlikely that we will do many excursions either.  If the wi-fi were cheaper, we might have considered for some of the longer stretches of sea days.

We never bother with the ships Wi-Fi. We always manage to get free Wi-Fi every time we are ashore. Frankly, I like the break from the phone when on a cruise, which is why I’m not too keen on having to carry a phone around to book dining etc. On our next cruise our daughters and partners are coming with us, so as that generation are always glued to their phones I will let them make all the bookings. Given that I’m paying that’s the least they can do 😂

Haha

When we've been on longer cruises, outside of Europe, we have bought the ship's wi-fi package for a   24 hour period, once a week.  We'd normally start it mid afternoon, so we'd have the rest of the afternoon and evening, then the next day we'd have it for the morning and early afternoon.  We'd binge on our surfing and emails, then put the phone away for another week.

Thanks to all for the great advice concerning WiFi. I've gone ahead and booked an inside for this cruise, which has been on my bucket list. I'm a recent widower and will be doing the 99n as a single, with the hopes of meeting some new friends along the way. I will probably just plan on doing ship excursions as my "old" knees limit the extent of my mobility. Thanks again....

Good for you - something lovely to look forward to.

I would do WiFi when and as needed as others have said maybe 1 or 2 days a week to check emails.

probably cheaper to use your mobile 4G roaming when at port if your provider has a decent roaming deal - mine would be about £2 /day when roaming overseas.

I don’t like using local WiFi abroad as I don’t think it’s safe.

A hot meal in any venue was not to be had on that cruise. Other disappointments (most of them cutbacks) we encountered were as follows:- 1.Too many passengers crammed on the ship, which caused queues for everything, overcrowded venues and difficulties in finding somewhere to sit most of the time. 2.The removal of trays in the buffet !!!!!!
