We have a small head (or toilet) on board, but we recommend using the restroom before your cruise. There is a restroom conveniently located in southern corner of the Fun Zone. A member of the crew team will meet you at the dock upon your arrival to show you around.

Cruise Booking Calendar

Use the calendar to find availability for your cruise. Select a day and the available times will show then select a time slot. If you are redeeming a Groupon/Travel Zoo, you can enter it under Voucher Redemption Code. Your voucher is used to hold the reservation and will not be redeemed until the day of your cruise. You can also book using Venmo.  It’s the same as using a credit card but safer.

REMEMBER: When a cruise is completely full it is immediately removed from our online schedule. Please do not call and ask for availability. All our availability is listed on this calendar. If you do not see it, it is not available. Keep checking back because cancellations do occur.

Read all this before booking:  If you bought a voucher or want to use Venmo for a PRIVATE boat for up to 6 people , please find a cruise with all 6 available slots (6/6) not 3/6 . and choose ‘Private’ under Cruise Participants. You are then welcome to come with up to 6 people . Make sure to input your Groupon Redemption Code if not using Venmo, not the Voucher number. Remember to actually select the time slot before inputting all your info.

You can also book with Venmo as payment . Select “Need to Pay-Venmo” Input your Venmo account name and you will be sent a request through Venmo. If you want a private boat , make sure you find a time with 6/6 open . If you don’t have a Venmo account, you can set up an account free of charge after you receive a request. Use your Email address instead. Venmo is just like using a credit card but safer.

When you book for 2 you will be sharing the cruise with another couple. Couples’ cruises have been limited to 2 couples due to weight constraints. When you book for 2 the system takes 3 spots but only 2 are actually booked. Private cruises are still open for up to 6 people.

We do have a weight limit of 1000lbs on private boats .

Please check spam email for confirmation if you didn’t receive one. The morning of your cruise you will receive a text with more details.

We do not have handicap access.

All cancellations must be sent to us using the contact for .

Huck Fin Luxury Yacht Details:

Located in Newport Beach, Ca.

Some boat designs are meant to last, to have the same appeal many years – or generations – down the road as they did the day they were first launched. That certainly is the case with the Huck Fin – a 56’ Fairform Flyer model Sportsman built by the legendary company Huckins in Jacksonville, Florida in 1966.  Originally named Subito, she underwent a major refit in 1995, which included new motors, interior and generator. Since that time each owner has continued to make impressive improvements and keep up on all maintenance schedules.

Founded in 1928, Frank Pembroke Huckins was one of the first builders to develop planing hulls. The company built PT boats for the Navy during the Second World War, and developed the patented Quadraconic hull, with modest deadrise and concave bottom sections to make the boat perform well at any speed and provide incredible efficiency and comfort, even in big seas.

Today the Jacksonville builder is run by Huckins’ granddaughter, Cindy Purcell, and her husband, Buddy.

I love the water and find magic, privacy and adventure on my boats. Charter Go Sea It for a day cruise, multi-day sports adventure or a day of touring and I’ll share this magic with you and your friends.” ~Captain Stewart Nelson

Captain Nelson began his boating life at the tender age of 1. Stewart’s father, Dr. Woody Nelson, would take Stewart fishing and boating off the Southern California Coast and the Channel Islands. As a fishing club member with Pacific Anglers, Los Pesca Dores and Huntington Harbor Anglers, Stewart came to routinely operate boats and function as the deckhand, allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy catching more fish while enjoying a safe experience at sea.

Today, Captain Stewart Nelson wants each  Go Sea It  Charter to be a memorable boating experience for every guest—whether touring, fishing or a special event.

FISHING TRIPS

Go Sea It travels up and down the coast to best in-season locales. We fish many species such as Albacore, Yellow Tail, White Sea Bass, Rockfish and Halibut, as well as Lobster.

All fishing trips are seasonal and require that each passenger secure their own fishing license and comply with California State Fish and Game requirements. Fishing trips do not include rods and tackle, unless discussed in advance.

South to Catalina, the northern channel islands of Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa and San Miguel. Northern California fishing off the Big Sur Coast, Monterey, Soquel, Santa Cruz, Pillar Point Harbor Half Moon Bay, Farallon Islands, Pt. Reyes and San Francisco.

Have a destination in mind? Just ask. We readily accommodate special requests. As a small charter, we are flexible and agile. Our goal is to provide you with the very best boating experience.

CHANNEL ISLANDS

Note: check in with us for seasonal availability.

Captain Stewart Nelson cut his teeth on the waters of Southern California. Wherever you choose to visit in Mexico and Southern California, expect expert recommendations, navigation and the rare opportunity to see some truly new places that lie a bit beyond the  sea-lanes.

The diversity, history and habitat of the Channel Islands are a treasure trove, laden with riches. Fishing, birding, whale watching, surfing and free diving are all available seasonally in the Channel Islands.

From petrified pygmy forests, to the earliest paleontological evidence of humans in North America, the Channel Islands are remarkable. The Channel Islands are part of one of the richest marine biospheres of the world and are a sought after destination for research as well as recreation.

Seasonal opportunities and highlights vary, so check in with Captain Stewart on the best options for your available cruise dates, or work with Go Sea It to plan the prefect trip for you.

The Channel Islands off California, starting from the south coast, going north are:

  • San Clemente
  • Santa Barbara
  • San Nicolas

For those in Southern California, our Channel Island trips offer the rare chance to surf with your friends in a truly wild location. Come out for some remote surf and find a spot that is off the beaten path.

Santa Cruz Island has a couple great spots to surf and depending on the swell size and direction, these places can really go off! Depending on the swell direction, surfing can also be done at several locations on Santa Rosa, and San Miguel Islands.

The north shore is best during the northwest swells of winter/spring and the south shore is best during the south swells of summer/fall, as a general rule of thumb. These spots are only accessible by boat. This is the right time to take advantage of Captain Stewart’s knowledge of the Channel Islands and find the ideal location to plan the perfect surf adventure.

FREE DIVING

Thanks, but no tanks! Want to dive in? We offer free diving and snorkeling for those that want to dive without dive tanks. Let Captain Stewart take you to some of the best waters off California’s coast for snorkeling, free diving and spear fishing. Whether you want to swim with dolphins or cavort with bright orange Garibaldi fish off Catalina Island, Charter Go Sea It.

Here are a few Channel Island free diving notes:

  • Santa Cruz Island  Explore for White Sea Bass and enjoy excellent overnight anchorages. One of the largest and deepest sea caves in the world, the Painted Cave, is found on the northwest coastline of Santa Cruz. Named because of its colorful rock types, lichens, and algae, the Painted Cave is nearly a quarter mile long and 100 feet wide, with an entrance ceiling of 160 feet and a waterfall over the entrance in the spring. This hard to reach destination is only one of a number of interesting features to explore. Santa Cruz Island has a long history, with over 10,000 years of American Indian habitation and over 150 years of European exploration and ranching. Many natural and architecture wonders are readily available.
  • Catalina  Generally considered “easy” diving and is too big to explore entirely in a single day, so pick the high points based on diving ability, tides and weather.
  • Santa Barbara  Three Sisters Beach (good for horn sharks, bat rays, and sometimes leopard sharks in the shallows), the Arch (a stunning natural underwater arch with a variety of sea life surrounding it), Webster’s Point, Elephant Seal Cove are high points.
  • San Clemente  The largest of the Southern Channel Islands at over 27 miles long—makes it impossible to see it all in one trip. Clemente is owned by the U.S. Navy and serves as home to a base in NW Harbor, which also includes Navy Seal training facilities. Popular sites include Castle Rock, Purple Boilers, and 9-Fathom Reef. The best free diving spots are only accessible by private vessel. This is the right time to take advantage of Captain Stewart’s deep knowledge of the Channel Islands and find the ideal location to plan the perfect free diving or snorkeling

Five-Star Reviews

From initially booking this reservation with Anne to the cruise itself, everything went extremely well. We had a group of 42 people and 7 amazing gondoliers. They all made our evening so very special from beginning to end. The evening was perfect....the gondoliers were perfect....and even the weather was perfect!

We took a dinner cruise with Eddie. It was really one of the best meals we had on our week stay in Newport Beach. I surprised my husband with a message in a bottle. My husband said it was the sweetest thing I had ever done for him. Cannot say enough good things about our cruise. It was the highlight of our trip.

I will not refer business to anyone that I don't believe will be treated and have a wonderful memory because of someone I trust and know. Being in the wedding industry, I have to only refer what I feel is the best. The romance and ambiance in Newport Harbor, the gondolier... GO YOU WILL have a wonderful memory for the rest of your life!

I called them with a proposal idea on a gondola. They treated me like I'm the only customer they've ever had. Everyone I had contact with was extremely polite and accommodating. I am beyond impressed with their level of customer service. My fiancé had a proposal fit for a princess. Your company is truly one in a million!

This was one of those moments that will forever be in my heart. My Fiance proposed to me on this magical ride. The team goes above and beyond and exceeded my fiance's expectations by leaps and bounds. These moments are priceless, and without the team, they would not be what they are.

Thank you Gondola Adventures and Anne for an awesome gondola cruise experience!!! We took our couples fellowship (36 people) and the Company was very accommodating and Anne even helped make arrangements for dinner. The gondoliers shared Italian history and traditions and sang for us. We had a great time!!!

Orange County, the endless summer lives on in Newport Beach and other beach towns

We are revisiting a long-loved destination, Orange County and, specifically, Newport Beach, CA, in our search for nearby warm-weather destinations for touring and sun-worshiping.

Long recognized as “California’s Riviera,” sun-worshipers and Hollywood discovered this sun-kissed 42-mile stretch of sandy beaches 100 years ago, offering respite to young and old. We’ve been heading down that way for over 20 years in winter or early spring to recharge our batteries after chilly days in northern California following our late winter/early spring Sierra blizzards and valley rain.

Beach-goers will find the county is also home to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the LA Angels of Anaheim baseball team, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks hockey team, a variety of other sports teams, museums, community theater, and many other attractions, but it’s the beachfront towns we are seeking. So pack your beachwear, hiking shoes, and bicycles, and explore sunny Huntington Beach down to Dana Point with us!

We’ll start in  Newport Beach , where our Marriott Newport Coast resort beckons us almost every spring. The city claims the world’s largest small boat harbor, two walkable piers, the Balboa and Newport Piers, along a sandy beachfront and active bike path. Take the Balboa Island Ferry (pedestrians and bikes welcome) for an all-too-short voyage between Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula, connecting two lovely communities of waterfront cottages, boutiques, and restaurants.

Stroll the broad walkway around Balboa Island, lined with $2 to $10 million waterfront “cottages.” Make time for a famous Balboa Bar, ice cream on a stick dipped in chocolate and covered with your favorite toppings, popular since 1945, or find chocolate-covered berries near the ferry. Take the inexpensive ferry to the Balboa Peninsula and explore south to the Newport Beach harbor entrance. You’ll spot Corona Del Mar State Beach, one of the most popular beaches along this sunny stretch, across the harbor entrance.

The 1905 Balboa Pavilion on the peninsula offers harbor and whale-watching tours and Santa Catalina Island cruises. The lovely town of Avalon is only 26 miles and about an hour and a half by ferry, so it's well worth the voyage if you’ve not been there. Newport offers plenty of upscale restaurants (favorites include Beachcomber at Crystal Cove State Park, Wallys at the Wharf, which has great food but is quite noisy, the Crab Cooker, Rusty Pelican, and Billy’s at the Beach).

Don’t miss our long-favored destination, Crystal Cove State Park, running three miles along the Pacific at the south end of Newport Beach. The park has beautiful hiking trails along and above the ocean. Within the park, the old beachfront town of Crystal Cove preserves refurbished cabins, renting for the low $200s to more a night, perfect for family reunions.

Plan a sunset meal at Beachcomber’s Restaurant, anchoring the old beach town, and tour the small museum that tells the story of the many movies shot here in the 1930s to '80s, including "Beaches" starring Bette Midler, "To Have and Have Not," starring Bogart and Bacall plus "Herbie the Love Bug," "Treasure Island," "Son of Tarzan" and many more. The park also offers the Moro Campground on a bluff overlooking the ocean, a bargain if you can book a spot.

Explorers will find the northern edge of Orange County interesting. It is home to  Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge  and Hennessey’s Grill, a great place for breakfast or lunch. The beachfront cycling trail connects with the San Gabriel River Bike Trail and continues south down the Huntington Beach Bike Trail.

Huntington Beach  is ‘Surf City USA’, featuring three beaches: Huntington City Beach, Huntington State Beach, and Bolsa Chica State Beach. These beaches are popular for surfing, volleyball, fire rings, and even beachfront camping. Just across Highway 1 is Bolsa Chica’s almost 1500 acres of wetlands, the largest saltwater marsh between Tijuana, Mexico, and Monterey Bay. The city features the International Surfing Museum and the Surfing Walk of Fame along Main Street.

The Santa Ana River separates Huntington Beach from Newport Beach. The lovely Santa Ana Bicycle Trail follows the river about 25 miles inland, through urban vistas, past the Los Angeles Angels ballpark and the Honda Center, home to the Ducks hockey team, and up into the foothills east of Los Angeles.

Heading south of Newport Beach,  Laguna Beach  offers additional sandy beaches, as well as the Laguna Art Museum and Laguna Playhouse (we have delighted in community theatre from the Newport Theatre Arts Center, where we just took in the delightful musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, to the Cabrillo Playhouse in San Clemente).

Main Beach Park is located across from the quaint downtown, which is packed with shops, restaurants, and boutiques—perfect for people-watching. Las Brisas Restaurant, on a bluff overlooking the town, is a fine dining option.

Further south is  Dana Point  and its busy harbor, popularized by Richard Henry Dana, who wrote the 1840 masterpiece “Two Years Before the Mast. " Tour the harbor, featuring well over 2000 boat slips, home to the Ocean Institute and Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, featuring the Spirit of Dana Point, a replica of a 1770s privateer used during the American Revolution (unhappily, a sister ship, the historic brig Pilgrim, sank in 2020).

There’s more to see, like Mission San Juan Capistrano just east of Dana Point, founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1776, and San Clemente, home of Nixon’s Western Whitehouse, but we’re out of time.

Contact Tim,  [email protected] ;  happy endless summer travels!

Local News | Newport Harbor boaters may see rent rise by 400% and they’re asking why

harbor cruise in newport beach

Boaters who anchor their vessels at off-shore mooring fields in the Newport Harbor continue to protest a proposal by a city commission to raise rents , now questioning the appraisal done for adjusting the rates.

There are more than 800 off-shore moorings in the harbor where people can park their boats. Some boaters could see their mooring rent increase by more than 400% – the Harbor Commission is discussing a phasing in plan that would start in 2025, and wouldn’t reach the maximum until five years.

Boaters argue they will be priced out of the harbor and question the size of the increase and whether it is necessary. Commissioners say they are doing their best to bring the price in line with a fair market rate for the use of an asset that is owned by the state and considered part of the public trust.  The State Lands Commission oversees these areas of submerged land known better as tidelands.

The Newport Mooring Association has raised questions there may be a possible conflict of interest for the independent appraiser the city hired to review the moorings and complete a comparative analysis of fair market rates.

Members said Jim Netzer of Costa Mesa-based Netzer and Associates is connected to the Newport Aquatic Center, a nonprofit that offers rowing, kayaking, canoeing and other water sport activities, including boat storage, from the bay inland of the harbor with a ground lease from the city, and that may be a conflict of interest. As part of the assignment, the appraisal was to look at the NAC among other boat storage areas, marinas, yacht clubs and the Dunes Waterfront Resort, said Chris Benzen, a mooring holder and member of the Newport Mooring Association at a recent commission meeting.

Netzer is a board member for the center and also made a personal loan in the past to the center, according to city records obtained by Benzen and presented at the meeting. Netzer acknowledged the loan in a later email to the Register, saying there is no conflict of interest.

Benzen also pointed out the city’s harbormaster , Paul Blank, who has been part of the discussions since 2021, has now recused himself as of last month from further discussions on the mooring rates. John Pope, the city’s spokesman, said Blank’s recusal came at the advice of the city attorney.

“It makes you wonder and think there is an appearance of impropriety,” Benzen told the harbor commissioners of the questions the group has raised.

City officials said Netzer and other interested contractors went through the required process of submitting a proposal for providing the appraisal services and was selected from a group of three that submitted; Netzer has one of the highest national appraiser designations possible, Pope said.

Pope said Netzer’s membership on the Newport Aquatic Center board does not present a conflict, and the appraisal he is conducting for the city on the moorings “is distinct and separate from his involvement with NAC.”

“The fact that Netzer is a director with NAC does not create a conflict or prevent him from being able to appraise the moorings,” Pope said. He said the Newport Aquatic Center use in the area is “different in type and kind. So he has no interest in the ‘property’ at issue, the moorings.”

Netzer said that his appraisal was “impartial and independent” and that his position on the NAC board is not a “conflict of interest.”

“To suggest otherwise is defamatory,” he said in an emailed response, adding that “the NAC loan was approximately 10 years ago between two private parties and the city was not involved.”

The appraisal assessed the rental rates of moorings in the harbor using three different comparative analyses, including tidelands market rentals and similar mooring rentals, said Ira Beer, co-chair of the Harbor Commission and chair of its subcommittee on the proposal.

“The comparable rental analysis includes the yacht clubs along with five other mooring rental locations along the coast of California,” he said, adding for a 40-foot mooring, the Balboa Yacht Club charges $16, and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club gets $13.50.

The harbor charges $3.34 per linear foot of boat per month for rental for the offshore moorings, which come with no amenities, such as power or water, and can only be reached by using a dinghy, paddleboard, or another sort of watercraft. The latest version of the proposal discussed by the commissioners would charge between $7.77 and $17.78 per linear foot, with the price increasing with the size of the boat. Netzer’s appraisal had suggested up to $23.25 on the higher end for a fair market value.

Boaters argue the fee increase will make the boating lifestyle unattainable for many, especially those on fixed incomes, and will drive many out of Newport Harbor. However, city officials say the proposed rate increase is commensurate with what the market bears out, and the current rates are too low to maintain the public harbor.

Beer said his group has done the best it can to keep the prices “as reasonable as possible,” including suggesting the phasing in of the increase.

“Six increases over five-and-a-half years are what we think will get us up to what we think fair market value is today,” he said. “We’re saying, ‘Hey, let’s kick this thing down the road as far as we can.’ All we’re saying is pay your fair share and let us be in compliance with state code.”

Benzen also took the boaters’ complaints to the City Council last month.

“What they’re proposing, the 400% to 500% increase to offshore moorings? It’s discriminatory; it’s bullying by the city,” he said.

If the commission votes later to recommend a rate increase, the City Council must approve it. Then, the California Coastal Commission would make the final decision.

“We would like the city to respond to the questions we’ve raised,” Richard Navarro, a Newport Mooring Association board member, said. “They’re very serious … about the conduct of the appraiser and why the harbor master had to recuse himself. In my view, the Harbor Commission has really lost the confidence of the public. It has a job to do to restore that credibility.”

The mooring association will continue to look for assistance, including asking the California State Lands Commission to compare the city’s appraisal with one commissioned by the Newport Mooring Association, Navarro said. “If the intent was to do an objective review, we’d like the city to send that to the State Lands, but they chose not to do it.”

Typically, the State Lands Commission does not engage in the day-to-day management of legislatively granted public trust lands, said Sheri Pemberton, chief of external affairs. That responsibility falls to the city.

“The commission generally does not act to either approve or disprove a grantee’s actions,” she said, adding that the commission staff will “review the city’s appraisal through the lens of whether the appraisal constitutes a reasonable effort to derive fair market value for the occupation and use of public land.”

“Commission staff intend to consider the Newport Mooring Association’s appraisal when providing feedback to the city,” Pemberton added.

Beer said the rates will be discussed again during the commission’s meeting this month. The next meeting is scheduled for April 10.

“We intend to make a recommendation,” he said, “if we have all the data.”

This story has been updated with more details on the scope of the appraisal.
