There are many different types of RVs around, some more basic than others. I like RVing with comfort and a bit of luxury too, as it makes for a better time out on the road! Finding the best luxury travel trailers may sound difficult, but they do exist, and if you have the budget, it’s possible to find the rig of your dreams for sure!

Our comprehensive guide to the best luxury travel trailers should provide a key insight into exactly what these types of impressive rigs are capable of, and which ones are best suited to you and your needs. If you’ve just started out RVing, try not to be put off by all the trailer options available! It’s simple to narrow down to the exact type of vehicle you need for all your RVing plans.

Let’s get started, and enjoy some of the luxurious options on this travel trailer roundup!

What Is A Luxury Travel Trailer?

A luxury travel trailer is a type of trailer that’s manufactured by almost all trailer brands. These luxury options are offered as their own distinct models, and these models include many upgraded and high-quality features not normally offered in lower-priced models.

It can be anything from higher-end interior design to more features included in the price than most bargain models. You may be paying for more technology throughout the rig, or more durable and stable materials throughout your trailer .

A luxury travel trailer always has a higher upfront cost, but it’s a great option for those hoping to camp in comfort and style. Many luxury travel trailers have the feel of a traditional home, and this is appealing to a wide range of RVers!

What To Look For In A Luxury Travel Trailer?

Shopping for a luxury travel trailer can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know quite what you’re looking for yet. Here’s a short list of potential things to keep an eye out for as you begin your search!

Floor Plan Or Layout

Your rig’s overall floor plan and layout are a huge part of shopping for a travel trailer. You may not know what you need at first, but start your considerations here: are you shopping for a travel trailer for your family, or just you and your significant other ?

Many travel trailers have multiple floor plan options, especially luxury rigs. Some are more customizable than others, with nonstandard features like theatre seating and bunk beds able to be added to your overall total.

Your layout will affect your overall camping experience, especially if you would like your trailer to have room for the whole family. Would you like a master suite with a closing door? How about minimal stairs so Grandpa and Grandma can safely navigate your rig?

No matter your desired layout, there’s a travel trailer to meet those needs. It may take some time to find it, but you can always be in contact with your trailer manufacturer about your desires. A convenient floor plan is number one in my book!

Bathroom Options

Choosing a luxury travel trailer with a bathroom isn’t difficult, but finding a bathroom to suit particular wants and needs may be harder than you think. Some luxury rigs are outfitted with standard-sized bathrooms, and some may even have bathtubs!

If you are traveling with a group, you may want a travel trailer that has two bathrooms onboard , another possibility for you to consider. If you and your partner want your own master suite with another bathroom for the rest of your guests, this is an option with some luxury floor plans.

Most luxury travel trailers have dry baths instead of wet baths , meaning you won’t have any trouble having separate features rather than just one room with a showerhead in it. There are many layouts that feature a separate toilet area, which can be helpful for many passengers.

Luxury rigs may also offer special bathroom features such as heated floors and towel racks, as well as skylights and double vanities. The sky’s the limit when it comes to luxury rigs- well, that and your budget!

Building Materials

Most travel trailers are built with reliable and durable materials. However, some are better than others, and luxury RVs should be built to last. Choosing an RV brand that’s known for its reliable building materials is a good place to start.

Choosing an RV with long-lasting building materials is always a good idea, as this extends your overall investment. You may have a certain material in mind, such as aluminum or fiberglass. Both come with their own pros and cons.

You should always look for a rig with high-quality insulation, no matter where you plan on camping. Many luxury RVs have reliable insulation for both warm and cold weather applications, and some will even have heated floor and heated holding tank options for extreme cold.

Standard VS Optional Features

One of the most time-consuming processes of purchasing a new RV? Deciding what features you would like to add on both the inside and outside of your rig!

There are always standard features on any RV, but these features will vary depending on the model type as well as the manufacturer of your rig. Luxury rigs often have more features available standard than other lower-priced RVs.

Many optional features have to do with the available technology on your rig, such as Bluetooth or wireless capabilities, as well as the internet. You may also have off-road or boondocking options, such as solar panels and a higher chassis.

If you plan on living in your rig as a full-timer, would you like access to laundry facilities in your rig? How about a chef’s kitchen? There are many features to consider before making your final decision, but there’s definitely a rig out there for you!

Warranty Options

If you are investing in a luxury travel trailer, finding a brand that offers a comprehensive and useful warranty may be high on your list. That’s why knowing your warranty options before you buy is important for any RVer, new or old!

Some rigs may have multiple warranties, some for structure, chassis, and tires, and others may have interior or electric warranty options. Your luxury rig deserves the best protection and should be backed up by a reliable warranty.

Any RV manufacturer should be upfront regarding their available warranties, but you should also be prepared to ask them any questions that you may have regarding your desired rig. Your safety and investment should be a priority to any RV brand!

Good Brands Of Luxury Travel Trailers

Speaking of RV brands, what might some good and reliable luxury travel trailer brands be? Let’s go over some of my favorite choices together.

One of the oldest travel trailer brands on this list, Airstream is known for its trademark appearance. These silver bullets have been gracing campgrounds and highways since the 70s, and they are making them better than ever before.

If you’re looking for an aluminum travel trailer , Airstream is one of your best options. Their price points are on the more affordable end of luxury, and their history and customer satisfaction simply can’t be beaten.

With enough floor plans to make you dizzy, Keystone offers a decent number of luxury rigs, all with features that will make you feel right at home. Started in 1996, Keystone is a company that stands for maximum features without a high price tag.

You’ll have plenty of choices to make if you go with a Keystone, and I consider this a huge positive when it comes to RV shopping. Keystone wants you to have exactly what you want, without breaking the bank!

Grand Design

While a relatively new company, Grand Design has quickly risen through the ranks of reliable luxury travel trailer brands. Started in 2012, Grand Design committed to becoming a resource for RVers across the nation.

Their primary goal? To keep in touch with RVers as they journey, Grand Design welcomes any and all feedback regarding their rigs in order to keep making the best and longest-lasting rigs out there.

A division of Forest River RVs, Palomino is a great choice for a luxury RV. While they don’t make very many rigs, each one is specially manufactured with the consumer in mind, and Forest River’s reliable construction is at the heart of all of their RVs.

Palomino RVs are designed with comfort and traditional home living in mind. They have many features inside of their rigs that give each one a unique and homey touch. Plus, there are plenty of floor plans to choose from so that you can satisfy the whole family!

One of the most popular RV brands in the business, Jayco makes an RV suitable for any and everyone. From lightweight toy haulers to Class A’s, Jayco has a rig that suits your sensibilities- and did I mention they have a great selection of luxury travel trailers too?

Jayco is known for its reliable and industry-setting durability, as well as their attention to detail. They use custom woodwork in most of their RVs, as well as stone and tile work that could be found in a traditional home.

What To Consider Before Purchasing A Luxury Travel Trailer?

From brands to layout requirements, there is so much to consider before purchasing a luxury travel trailer. What else should you keep in mind while shopping? Read on…

How Many People Can Sleep Comfortably?

Before you get too ahead of yourself, take a moment to consider how many people you are planning on camping with at any given time. While you may not know this number right off the bat, it is important that you have enough sleeping areas for your immediate family .

Most luxury rigs offer many sleeping arrangements and options, but it is important to get a large enough rig for everyone to feel comfortable. If it is just you and your partner, finding a smaller RV will be no problem.

However, if you have a family of five or even more than that, finding a larger luxury rig should be a consideration for you. There are usually different layouts that support this, and sleeping arrangements can be found in the form of bunk beds and fold-out sleeping areas.

Luxury Features And Options

We’ve already touched on this but you should keep in mind what luxury features and options you may be looking for. Are you hoping for a spacious bathroom or a residential kitchen? What about a fireplace or walk-around king bed?

No matter what you are looking for, there’s bound to be a rig out there that has it. It may take some searching, but you should be able to find what you are looking for so long as you know what features you desire most!

Tow Vehicle Capacity

If you are shopping for a luxury travel trailer and you already own a vehicle that you plan on towing with, it is important for you to learn your tow vehicle’s capacity.

There are many different weights and numbers to learn when you are first learning how to tow, and it is important to never tow an RV that weighs more than your vehicle’s towing capacity. A 30-foot travel trailer may weigh far more than you think, especially once it is full!

Many luxury rigs are also heavy, depending on their contents and design. Most RV manufacturers assume you will have a tow vehicle that can handle the weight, so keep this in mind when you are shopping (especially if you already own a tow vehicle).

While luxury goods come at a high price tag, having a realistic budget in mind before you start shopping is important. RVs can cost more than you think, especially if you plan on adding many non-standard features or accessories.

Not only will the RV manufacturers have their opinions about add-ons, but you will also find that RVs need a lot of gadgets and accessories so that you can safely travel, park, and hitch up. You may wish to purchase reliable wheel chocks or additional stabilizers .

Many luxury RVs have extras and more perks than a more modest model, but it is always important to stick to your budget. The last thing you want is to overspend and then not have enough money to travel!

How Often The RV Will Be Used

Buying a luxury RV is a joy and an exciting time- the last thing anyone wants is to spend the money on such a nice rig and then never use it.

Are you planning a luxury RV purchase, but only so you can tow your travel trailer around twice a year? Or are you prepared to live in luxury full-time? No matter the amount, it may be important to consider how often you will use your travel trailer before purchasing one.

Some luxury rigs have full-timers in mind; others are simpler and less expensive, meaning you don’t have to feel as bad about not taking it out every single weekend. If you plan to use your rig often, think about that before making a final decision.

Length And Weight

Just like you shouldn’t purchase a rig that is too heavy for your tow vehicle, you should consider the overall length and weight of your luxury travel trailer a decisive factor before purchasing. Why might this be, especially since you could buy something that’s big and heavy?

Well, owning a heavy and long trailer can be more difficult to control on the road , and the longer the rig, the more issues you will have when it comes time to park and camp with it. Some RV parks and campsites have length limits to their rigs- that’s the last thing you need after towing all day!

Choosing a luxury rig means you are getting a well-built and well-appointed RV, no matter the length and weight. Consider where you plan on traveling, how many people are coming with you, and your overall towing experience before making your final purchase.

Boondocking Capabilities

Speaking of knowing where you plan on traveling, dry camping or boondocking is all the rage right now. If you plan on unplugging and boondocking in your luxury travel trailer, you should make sure that the rig you are looking at has such capabilities.

For example, you may wish to add more solar panels via the RV manufacturer, or even an extra battery built for boondocking . There are larger holding tank options as well, or even off-road packages for the adventurer in you!

The Best Luxury Travel Trailers

I’ve made you wait long enough. Surely you have a good idea of what you are looking for in a luxury travel trailer, from the optional features to the interior design. Now let’s take a look at some of my top picks for the best luxury travel trailers.

Best Overall: Jayco Eagle

While every RV has its foibles, Jayco has proven decade after decade their rigs are reliable, perfect for resale, and, most importantly, luxurious. The Jayco Eagle is no exception.

Eagle is one of the longest-running, most successful RVs on the market and continues to be one of the most popular in its class year after year. Equipped with the very best features and full of innovation, the Eagle makes for a downright luxurious experience to transform any adventure.

The latest edition of this classic travel trailer features redesigned bathrooms, a smart TV upgrade, and a new solar power option which I think is an awesome option, making this rig more suitable for boondocking and wild camping. The mandatory luxury package features some impressive additions, such as a second power awning with dimmable LED lighting and a second 15,000 BTU “Whisper Quiet” A/C unit.

Both of these add an extra high-end touch to this Jayco trailer, and help make things far more comfortable in summer when the sun is beaming down! Every Jayco trailer comes with their patented JAYCOMMAND “Smart RV” system to make things easier when out on the road. The luxury package continues, offering an LED fireplace with a 5,000 BTU electric space heater, a clean Drinking Water System, as well as ample solar prep.

I’m drawn to the kitchen as it features a 21 cu. ft. residential refrigerator along with solid-surface countertops matched with a bamboo sink cover and strainer. Together, these create a sleek kitchen aesthetic that makes me want to get cooking! I also like the spacious living area equipped with blackout roller shades giving me and my partner the privacy we want, living full-time on the road.

There are only two floorplans for the 2023 Jayco Eagle, and both have an overall length of 40′ 1″ which is pretty long! This may be a bit too big of a travel trailer… I’d need plenty of practice to tackle maneuvering this RV! However, the impressive length means this trailer is more than capable of fitting several individuals on board, including friends, family, and even furry companions!

I could continue to list features about the Jayco Eagle, but there’s simply too much to comment on, hence why it’s our overall best choice for a luxury travel trailer. From Jayco’s industry-leading manufacturing and warranties to main interior features, the Eagle is a spacious and luxurious choice for any camper- and fairly affordable at that!

Most Floor Plans: Keystone Cougar Half-Ton

With 23 available floor plans, the Keystone Cougar Half-Ton luxury travel trailer is a winner in my eyes, as often it can be hard to find exactly what I want from an RV! It’s even a great full-time trailer, with luxury features including washer-dryer prep, theatre seating, and bunk bed options too if multiple travelers are jumping on board!

Towable by most of today’s half-ton trucks, this collection of Keystone Cougar luxury travel trailers is designed for maximum camping flexibility and a range of RVers too. Varying in length from 26′ to 37′, it shouldn’t be too tricky to find a tow vehicle able to bring this rig along for an RV adventure. I think the lightweight nature of this trailer is also a big bonus as no model weighs over 10,000 lbs dry, so it’s relatively easy to tow!

With all of Cougar’s premium features, like full auto-leveling , and the brand’s boondocking-friendly solar power prep and larger tank capacities, these RVs are equally at home at the campground or off-the-grid. This provides the flexibility I need to either camp at an RV park or out in the wild somewhere, knowing I can bring ample water along, and be supported by renewable energy from the sun.

Each floor plan comes with a fireplace and vaulted ceilings, and some of the longer rigs can sleep up to 12 people! Keystone offers some industry exclusives for all of their rigs, including a 3-year limited structural warranty, a 1-year limited base warranty, and 4G LTE and Wi-Fi prep. It’s warranties like these that make me feel supported and backed by RV manufacturer brands, and something I keep an eye out for when I’m browsing different RVs.

Besides lovely and homely interior features, Keystone offers durable materials as well, such as water-resistant flooring, uniform, and color-coded wiring, a climate guard package, and enhanced slide-out stability and weatherproofing. This allows the Cougar to be ready for whatever the weather throws, and means every step has been taken to stop water creeping inside the trailer!

All in all, the Keystone Cougar is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a variety of floor plans to compare and contrast with. There are spacious bathrooms, walk-around king beds, and full-size residential kitchens. Everything you’d expect in a luxury rig!

Best For Boondocking: The E-RV

It’s hard to find a luxury travel trailer blending sustainability with functionality and luxury, but the E-RV is in a league of its own, as it’s the world’s first all-electric RV! While most luxury rigs offer boondocking capabilities, the E-RV is made entirely for dry camping and doesn’t skimp on style or comfort, for a great RV vacation.

This RV is one of the best examples I’ve seen for providing a truly off-grid adventure whilst also providing the luxuries and practicalities of domestic living. The E-RV has been specially manufactured as an energy-efficient, sustainable home on wheels, powered by sun rays and nothing else! Technology is constantly developing, and creations like the E-RV are paving the way for change, reducing our impact on the planet, one rig at a time!

The composite-constructed cabin offers superior insulating properties, allowing the RV to be cool in summer and cozy warm in winter. I find it extraordinary that this trailer is capable of effectively processing its own energy, remaining carbon neutral, and being clean for Mother Earth. There are simply countless perks of the luxurious E-RV, including full off-road independent suspension as standard, perfect for off-road driving in rugged terrain.

There’s also a semi-off-road independent suspension, offering incredible support and the ability to power through to off-grid spots hidden in the wilderness. Although it’s an additional purchase which is a bit disappointing since this rig is pretty pricey, I would opt for the 65ltr fresh water tank as it can help extend dry camping for a few days. The overall battery capacity and solar capabilities have been tried and tested over 20,088 miles and 176 days through the toughest conditions only to exceed all expectations, so I trust this rig to power everything we need!

While having an all-electric rig for adventures sounds bare bones, the interior of these rigs is lovely. Designed in a classy black and white motif, the finishing touches on this rig are crisp and inviting, making it feel more like a proper home .

Best With Two Bathrooms: Palomino Puma Destination

Finding an RV equipped with two bathrooms can be tricky, especially if there’s a budget to stick to! But sometimes an extra bathroom is a necessity, and that’s where the luxurious Palomino Puma Destination comes in. There are a few different floor plans to choose from, and as the Palomino is a Forest River subsidiary RV, there’s a big name backing this RV.

I like the versatility of this rig. It’s great for a family vacation, a weekend at the lake, a trip to the mountains, or even a quiet refresher at the campground . There’s so much I love about this rig, from the spacious and airy interior to the multiple comfy seating areas. Not every floorplan of the Palomino has two bathrooms, however, the 39DBT has two showers on board!

There are also various bedroom options, some floorplans including more than one, which is great for me as I sometimes struggle to find space when my friends or family come to visit. Each layout comes with residential-style furnishings and a large master bedroom with a king-size bed to ensure a comfortable and relaxing getaway.

There are loads of standard features onboard this travel trailer, including solar prep, an outdoor shower, built-in knife and spice racks, and wardrobes in each bedroom, along with residential carpeting throughout. I’m a bit of a sucker for vinyl or hard flooring in an RV as they are easier to clean than carpet, but I guess carpet is cozier for winter! The interior design of the Puma Destination is very fresh and sleek with a luxurious edge, but it’s also still homely so everyone will feel comfortable inside.

The exterior has many safety features, including a sturdy powder-coated frame, backup camera prep, and more. Plus there are large pass-through storage compartments so the whole family can come along, as well as everyone’s gear!

Most High Tech: Living Vehicle Pro HD Model

Similar to the E-RV, the Living Vehicle Pro HD Model is in a different classification from many typical travel trailers. Their tagline is quite literally “Luxury Unplugged”, and I believe they have every right to claim that title! This rig is designed for off-grid travel and has innovative technology to back it up. Not only is this trailer capable of supporting off-grid adventures, but it also functions in remote environments with its own sustainable power source.

Living Vehicles are custom-built and fully customizable, so it’s effortless to create a rig of dreams. All of this does come at a high price, but for such a unique and capable RV, it’s hard to be surprised! This rig is a stand-alone electrical powerhouse with an intentionally designed and integrated system with automotive-grade lithium technology and the highest energy density on the market.

I love the creativity of Living Vehicle, with some spaces capable of multi-functioning – something I think more RV manufacturers need to include in their RVs to make interiors more functional. The overall interior is just as impressive as the off-grid capabilities with this trailer, matching luxury with European fixtures, and high-end finishes – it’s more like a work of art than an RV.

This trailer may not look like other typical travel trailers, and although the slightly futuristic look may not suit everyone’s taste, I think it’s a welcomed change from other RVs. There’s also the ability to comfortably sleep up to four individuals, making this a rig ideal for small families. Sleep four people comfortably in your Living Vehicle, with separate sleeping spaces for each pair.

It’s effortless to adjust the dining table and rearrange the cushions of the lounge to create a comfortable queen-sized bed in the living area. Plus, there’s an optional sleeping bunk too! Convenience is essential for me in an RV, as I live on the road full-time and would rather not deal with the same problems over and over again each day. Therefore, I love the sheer amount of thought that must’ve gone into the making of each of Living Vehicle’s models as it shows they are thinking with RVers at the forefront.

This rig is made for full-time living, no matter the desired comfort level. The finishings are gorgeous- black walnut and teak, aluminum, and an abundance of windows truly make this RV anything but traditional.  The LV shell is the true foundation all systems and functions are built on. The shell features hybrid structural engineering solutions and no use of wood, which is a bonus in my eyes as it helps prevent rotting or mold growth .

The entire Living Vehicle structure (including the subfloor!) is made from solid aluminum, proven to stand the test of time, and last for many years of solid RV adventuring. If an RV like this is within your budget, there’s simply no better option for luxurious off-grid travel. There aren’t any other towable rigs like the Living Vehicle, however, the high price point is a bit of a sting and means this travel trailer won’t be within the reach of many RVers – certainly not me!

Most Homey Feel: Airstream Pottery Barn Special Edition

If you’re looking for luxury but also for comfort, you have to check out this Airstream collaboration between this notorious RV brand and Pottery Barn, a luxury home goods store. They have combined forces to create a truly special aluminum rig.

Comfortable, connected, and capable of letting you travel anywhere while feeling like you’re always home, the all-new Airstream Pottery Barn Special Edition Travel Trailer is a gorgeous, 28-foot travel trailer designed in partnership between two iconic brands.

Featuring custom furniture based on best-selling Pottery Barn designs, tailor-made storage solutions, and a timeless design aesthetic, the all-new travel trailer sets a new standard for a well-traveled life. And boy, does it look comfortable and chic!

Whether you choose the queen or twin bed floor plan, there’s room for sleeping up to five people. Both floor plans feature exclusive Pottery Barn bedding that lets you sink into total comfort at the end of an adventurous day. Pottery Barn brought to life the allure of their timeless aesthetic with a black pull-down faucet, a stainless steel flat apron sink, and a versatile cutting board sink cover. Featuring the most comfortable cushions to ever grace an Airstream, the arm hides an airline-style flip-out table.

With all modern conveniences like a shower, toilet, and sink, the onboard bathroom has a residential feel with a bowl sink, sleek faucet, and wall sconces. There’s even an included outdoor accessory kit from Pottery Barn- an awning, dinnerware, table and chairs, and more.

This rig isn’t all beauty- it also offers many of Airstream’s reliable safety features as well. A rear-view camera mounted to the travel trailer’s back shell gives you the perfect view for safely backing up. Airstream’s ducted air conditioning system quietly, quickly, and efficiently cools the interior of the travel trailer. It also features a heat pump for warmth in cooler temps.

While this rig does boast a higher price tag than most, having the option to purchase a special edition Airstream is a luxury, to be sure. Plus, with so many special features and subtle perks, this is a great rig to consider- especially since Airstreams are built to last.

Most Vintage Look: Bowlus Endless Highways Edition

No one loves a vintage rig more than me, and this Bowlus Endless Highways Edition is an absolutely stunning aluminum rig with a luxurious but classy edge. Nothing beats the shape of vintage travel trailers in my eyes, but I understand it’s not everyone’s taste! This rig only comes in one size so it doesn’t offer the versatility of other trailers on our list like the Keystone Cougar, but it’s ideal for solo travelers or couples.

A spacious, zen-like bedroom converts from two twins to an incredible king so I can open up the space when a friend comes over to stay and return the setup to a king when I’m back to solo traveling. The hotel-style en suite bathroom is a refreshing change from typical RV bathrooms and lets me feel like a queen on the road!  makes traveling to events a five-star experience.

This is an authentic rig full of unique touches I often struggle to find in other trailers. The main cabin has dining for four, all in beautiful wood grain bringing depth and warmth to the interior to avoid the often clinical look of some RVs . This Bowlus isn’t just about looks, though, as there’s a powerful lithium iron phosphate power system available with fantastic off-grid capability.

I enjoy being able to use whatever appliances I need in my RV whenever I want, so this powerful electrical system allows me to run the microwave, all of the outlets, and even the A/C for a few hours when relying on off-the-grid power. This can all be done conveniently using an app which is the kind of simplicity I’m looking for out on the road.

This rig also isn’t very heavy, with a GVWR of 4,000 lbs, so I can tow it using pretty much any crossover or SUV and even some EVs too.  The Bowlus’ reflective armor offers peace and privacy which is a must for me in any RV. The bedroom, bathroom, and main cabin can become their own separate spaces, making this 25-foot rig a versatile and unique choice. It’s on the smaller side, so isn’t suitable for large groups or families, but a couple of travelers will be able to make the most of the stunning Endless Highways.

Best For The Whole Family: Grand Design Reflection

Aluminum trailers have a retro feel that’s a winner for me, but for more modern aesthetics that the whole family can enjoy, the Grand Design Reflection is a great option. With up to 37 feet of length to appreciate, this rig has enough luxury and family-friendly features to make it a great choice for any family vacation.

The Grand Design Reflection combines luxury, value, and towability in one amazing package with a renowned customer service team and high-quality production of rigs. The Reflection is a top-selling name in North America and is a favorite of many full-times, given it has  great living arrangements. With a residential kitchen, on-demand hot water, double pane windows, and washer and dryer prep, this rig suits short trips as well as longer explorations.

The interior is roomy which is great for me with a big rescue pup on board! And I love that the living area has ample space for a sofa and theatre seating as it means the space can become a tranquil paradise when the sun goes down. With multiple wardrobes and pass-through storage areas, I can bring everything I want on board and don’t have to worry about won’t have to worry about mess or lack of organization!

There’s a pantry in the kitchen for storing extra goodies and baking ingredients, a delightful walk-around king or queen bed, a well-appointed outdoor kitchen for hosting friends for summer BBQs, and even a floor plan with bunk beds so the kids can get cozy too!  There are loads of standard and optional features as well, including solar prep and a comprehensive four-season package which I would opt for as I travel year-round on various terrains through various weather conditions.

Not only does Grand Design take extra care to build their rigs with quality materials- they then put each RV they manufacture through a pre-delivery inspection. With over 250 points of inspection involved in this process, I feel confident in Grand Design’s luxury travel trailers.

Most High-End: Luxe Gold Fifth Wheel

This is a list of the best luxury travel trailers, so I simply couldn’t leave this Luxe Gold Fifth Wheel out of the race! The construction of this trailer is unbeatable, with 3″ super composite welded aluminum cage walls and 2.5 graphite-infused closed cell insulation for optimal performance in various climates. The 12″ forged reinforced steel powder coasted l-Beam gives me the peace of mind I need to live comfortably and safely on the road.

To bring additional luxury to this trailer, the sidewalls and ceiling are soft touch, providing a feeling of opulence and comfort. The frameless thermopane windows offer plenty of natural light and make the space feel even bigger than it already is! The slides also help with this, but I would recommend taking care of the slides and maintaining them correctly for improved longevity and smoother operation.

This Luxe Gold Fifth Wheel trailer is one of the high-end options on our list, primarily because each of Luxe’s fifth wheels are built and delivered straight from the factory to the consumer, meaning you can’t find these rings just anywhere. I love that the materials used are of the highest quality and are modern, as it makes the rig feel like a home and not just any RV.

There are five floorplans available with this Luxe Gold beast, but the 41GMD is the only one with a vanity slideout. This obviously does mean the overall size of the rig is increased, but since it has a length of 36′ 9″ and a height of 13′ 3″, it’s already on the bigger side! There aren’t too many floorplans to choose from, and although it would be nicer to have a few more options, the layouts available still offer flexibility.

It’s awesome that this Luxe travel trailer has been configured to suit a range of RVers, and the 38GFB floorplan even has two bathrooms which are a game-changer for families or traveling groups. Each floorplan has a TV and fireplace for ultimate coziness, and for epic functionality, there’s a substantial-sized kitchen, washer-dryer prep, ample seating, and comfortable sleeping arrangements.

The only drawback to this luxury travel trailer is the price! These travel trailers aren’t cheap, but they are worth every penny for those able to afford them. For full-time living, vacations with the family, or a summer break at the coast, this Luxe Gold Fifth Wheel trailer might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Finding a luxury travel trailer should be a joy, not a chore. I hope you’ve found a winner on this list, and are already planning your first camping trip. Rest assured, you can camp in style, comfort, and luxury, you just need to take the time to find the right travel trailer.

What is a luxury trailer.

To be clear, a lot of travel trailers and campers are intended for living off the grid. However, not all of them should be deemed luxurious. To fit the bill, a given unit should have all, or most, of the amenities of your household such as toilet, shower, kitchen, and bedroom. There should also be a decent amount of interior space, some higher-end materials, and perhaps some high-tech features . Essentially, these campers should feel like a home away from home (or office away from office) with an emphasis on comfort and convenience.

What to look for in a luxury trailer

Dry Weight: While you won’t expect these luxurious options to be very lightweight, the weight of the trailer will have an impact on your driving ability and gas mileage.

Length/Width: The overall size of the trailer may yield a more spacious interior but can also make these difficult to achieve off-grid destinations as easily. For that reason, we’ve chosen models that are large but not too large.

Accommodations: Many luxury trailers will have a suite of options available in terms of add-ons, which can make your stay more comfortable. These can include kitchen upgrades, material upgrades, extra solar options, and any variety of bells and whistles (and in some cases, both).

Appearance: While the look of your trailer only weighs in marginally with a standard unit, a luxury camper should be a bit more design-forward. Most of the ones on this list sport either a retro or futuristic aesthetic.

Best Overall: As one of the most iconic camper brands in the world, Airstream’s aluminum models have become symbols of Americana for decades. With a versatile model range that goes from smaller-sized towables to large self-driving RVs, the Ohio-based legend is well-versed in both luxury and style.

Ranging from 23 to 30ft long, the Flying Cloud is Airstream’s most popular and versatile travel trailer. This luxury camping trailer comes complete with a 120W solar panel, LED lighting, electronic brakes, Brandi cooking vent, four-burner gas stove , and an impressive rear hatch typically reserved for special edition trailers. For your convenience, it also boasts Quietstream Climate Control, LG LED HD TVs, USB and 110V charging outlets, and rear-view monitoring. And with 7 floor plans to choose from, we’re confident you’ll find the Flying Cloud that’s just right for you. Built for longevity, it’s no wonder Airstream trailers from the 1930s are still on the road today.

Best for Couples: From the outside, Lume’s LT540 may not look like much, reminiscent of a horse trailer from the outside, but trust us that you won’t feel a bit like you’re living in a stable here. Designed to feel like you haven’t left anything behind, the flagship camper trailer is made for luxury traveling, allowing you to enjoy nature, yet sleep in the comfort of a retreat that feels like home.

This trailer benefits from aluminum construction and is well-insulated to keep you warm and cozy when night falls. It features a 100W solar panel, an open panoramic roof made with Sunbrella fabric and a mosquito net, an outdoor chef-quality kitchen with two PITT cooking gas burners and a 40L refrigerator, and gas connection points for barbecue. Inside you’ll find walls upholstered in natural wool felt, black leather adorning the interior, and a teak floor to complete the luxurious feel. The spacious LT540 has all the amenities you need to enjoy nature and still benefit from the comforts of home.

Length: 22.78ft Width: 8.2ft Interior Height: N/A Sleep Capacity: 2 Solar Option?: Yes Base Weight: 4,850lbs Inside Toilet?: Yes Inside Shower?: No

Best for the Wilderness: While you can certainly take most, if not all, of these travel trailers into the wilderness, some are more capable of handling the unpredictability of the elements than others. Using a reliable steel cage construction, ERIBA Touring built the 820 Camping Trailer to be durable. Even the inside is capable of handling tough gear and hiking boots with its damage-proof GRP lightweight floor.

At first glance, you could say the camper almost looks like a drivable class-A RV . It has a futuristic design with its smooth silver panels, large tilted panoramic windows reminiscent of a spaceship, and two-tone shading. Inside you’ll find round furniture inspired by contemporary yachts, V-shaped beds, a 180° panorama lounge space, and a spacious roof. The luxury adventure ride is also packing plenty of technology, as it includes a smart home system managed through a built-in digital control panel or an included app. If that doesn’t impress you, the camper also has floor heating, a roof-mounted air conditioner, and hot water system.

Length: 28ft Width: 7.9ft Interior Height: N/A Sleep Capacity: 2 to 4 Solar Option?: No Base Weight: 5,512lbs Inside Toilet?: Yes Inside Shower?: Yes

Best Upgrade: If Airstream’s iconic aluminum campers are instantly recognizable with their distinctive rounded shape, so are Bowlus’ zeppelin-style exoskeletons – and they’ve been around just nearly as long, dating back to the 1930s. Reminiscent of those earliest designs, the Bowlus Road Chief Endless Highways trailer has a flashy metal exterior, which inspired the Airstream look to begin with, according to founder Hawley Bowlus.

Hand-built in California, this 27-footer can sleep and dine four passengers, as well as protect them with its TIG-welded aluminum spaceframe build. Inside you’ll find a 12-volt fridge and freezer, microwave, gorgeous two-burner Italian stovetop, full-length mirror, two wardrobe closets, and air conditioning. And it has a shower with elevated teak flooring, as well as an Italian marine shower head. If you want to escape into nature but want the comfort and amenities of a hotel, the Bowlus Road Chief is the camper you need. If that’s not enough, the company also has a Bespoke Customization program if you want to add some personal touches.

Living Vehicle HD24

  • Literally feels like an apartment on wheels
  • Potentially infinite sustainability off-grid (with certain trim)
  • Full walk-in closet

Best Solar Option: A beautiful part about living in this day and age is the amount of benefit we can receive from the power of the sun. In terms of adventure trailers, this means that we can theoretically survive for an infinite amount of time (within reason) off the grid if equipped with enough solar panels. Living Vehicle recently debuted its latest model, the HD24, an apartment on wheels with upwards of 30 days of solar-powered energy.

Designed to perfectly blend a luxurious lifestyle with adventure readiness, the HD24 has four trim level options, each of which will have a different range of solar panels, with its top-most tier also giving you a 5-gallon-per-day water generation for an infinite amount of clean water thanks to its filtration and UV sterilization system. In terms of comforts, the camper trailer also features a luxurious interior with a spacious lounge area that converts into a queen-sized bed, a dining table that changes into a coffee table, a modern media center, a glamorous bathroom, a full kitchen, and tons of storage space. There’s also a massive walk-in closet that dwarfs any other option we’ve seen. To further mimic your own home, there’s a sliding glass door that opens into a makeshift patio space.

Lightship L1

  • Very aerodynamic in Road Mode
  • Integrated rooftop panels
  • Glamorous spa-inspired bathroom
  • Full kitchen plus slide-out camp kitchen
  • Not available yet

Honorable Mention: With the travel trailer space constantly growing and expanding, it’s inevitable that there will be certain models that we love that simply aren’t available yet. And this inaugural model from Lightship was just too spectacular not to mention here, even though it won’t begin production until late 2024 (pre-orders are open right now though).

Specifically designed to be towed by electric vehicles , the Lightship L1 was developed by ex-Tesla and -Rivian staffers, featuring an integrated battery pack and drivetrain to power the trailer’s wheels independently. From its lightweight composite body and shape that’s three times as aerodynamic as a standard travel trailer, the L1 sports a “Road Mode” that compacts for a 6′ 9″ driving height. Coming standard with a 40kWh battery powered by rooftop solar panels and deployable solar wings, the camper can run all your systems for about a week. As for the inside amenities, you get a full interior kitchen with a dishwasher and a slide-out camp kitchen, as well as a spa-inspired bathroom with a toilet and a full shower with rain-style head. Not to mention, the systems and appliances can be controlled via your smart device with the dedicated app.

Length: 27ft Width: 8.5ft Interior Height: 7.5ft Sleep Capacity: 6 Solar Option?: Yes Base Weight: 7,500lbs (fully loaded) Inside Toilet?: Yes Inside Shower?: Yes

By definition, a luxury product should be a quality product.  Unfortunately, in the travel trailer industry, this certainly isn’t the norm.  I will start with this subject to help understand the concepts of quality as it relates to luxury.

When it comes to travel trailers, it’s common practice to disguise a cheap product with an overtly false “luxurious label.”  In 2020, this is no longer a rare occurrence but commonplace with nearly every manufacturer claiming to be luxurious. I get it, travel trailers are selling a dream – this dream is to experience adventure in a high-class and luxurious way. The reality is that very little attention has been given to the design, lifespan, or functionality of the product. Only after the customer takes delivery of the unit will the little quality demons start to show their heads.  For this reason, it is extremely important to know what to look for when buying a new luxury travel trailer.

These 9 tips are the most important things to look for when considering a luxury travel trailer purchase.

aluminum travel trailer ceiling beams

We’ve all heard the quote about building your house on rock vs. sand – the same can be said for aluminum travel trailers.  The chassis is quite literally the foundation that every component and structure is built, and there are several types of chassis on the market today.

Steel is known for being heavy, but very strong and rigid. It is by far the most prevalent and widely used chassis in the travel trailer market today.  However, one of the disadvantages of a steel chassis is rust and corrosion.  Having personally remodeled over 400 vintage travel trailers with all of them having steel chassis, I can’t remember one that didn’t have a significant structural failure.  Over time, when mixed with water, heat, cold, critters, and minerals steel will literally turn into dust.

Like San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, a steel chassis must be regularly maintained and painted to prevent complete failure over time.  Aluminum chassis are relatively new and have tremendous advantages over steel.  Naturally resistant to corrosion, aluminum simply does not rust, yet it is very strong.

Another advantage of aluminum is weight savings.  An all-aluminum chassis can weigh in at well under half the weight of a comparable steel design.

2. Subfloor & Framing

The subfloor is the horizontal structure resting directly over the chassis that creates the platform to build the entire travel trailer on.   Without proper waterproofing, wood subfloors will fall-apart and decay over time.  This is the closest design choice for building a house on sand that I can think of.  Look for an all-aluminum subfloor and accept nothing less.  This design will provide a strong foundation for generations to come. With a strong, lightweight, and timeless chassis design, the next spot to look for quality is in the framing of walls and roofs.  There are a number of methods used here with clear winners.  By far, the lowest quality and cheapest to build is a “stick-frame” all-wood construction.

I shudder to consider that over 90% of all travel trailers built today use stick-frame walls and ceiling joists.   Witnessing a stick-framed travel trailer post major accident is all the proof I ever needed to swear off this type of construction.  It’s hard to even imagine how a vehicle built out of wood was even approved for road use.  Think covered wagon!

It simply boggles my mind.  Not only is this building method dangerous, but it is also highly susceptible to rot, decay, and rodent infestation.  In fact, most of the stick-frame travel trailers I have dismantled have serious structural and pest infestation issues.  Another method is similar to this type of building but with light-gauge steel.   This is far superior to wood as steel does not have the pest and decay tendencies of wood, however, steel framing is typically galvanized.  This method is highly susceptible to rust and will not stand the test of time.

By far, the best wall and roof framing methods are aluminum.  Take one look at the way airplanes are made to take a cue for the best structural design for high-quality trailers.  The best way to build out of aluminum is to be completely welded to create a very rigid wall and ceiling envelope.  Aluminum, when smartly integrated with insulation, is by far the best type of quality construction. Look for a travel trailer with an aluminum frame to be sure you are getting the best quality.

aluminum frame in travel trailer

This is quite possibly the most overlooked aspect for most travel-trailer buyers.  Most trailer roofs are installed are either rubber, EPDM, or TPO.  All of these are a composite material that is rolled down over the structure (often plywood sheets) to keep water out.  In my experience, this construction method simply does not work.  Water will leak inside from day one.  Over the years, the sun will beat down on the roof and cause a slow decay and eventual failure.

The only way to prevent this is to require the roof of a true luxury travel trailer is made from a stronger product that will not decay or break down.  The best solution I’ve found is making the roof from 100% aluminum.   A roof is the one area where water is most likely to find a way into the interior.  To counteract this, it’s key to ensure that the roof is made from a single sheet of aluminum, with no seams, because seams on the roof are potential spots where water will find its way in overtime and cause damage to the interior.

aluminum travel trailer with aluminum cabinets

When looking at cabinetry, the key item to realize is that this space will be undergoing what is equivalent to a 9.0 earthquake each time you travel.  Quality cabinetry construction is key.  Wood cabinets are made from lightweight composite wood, resin, and plastic, which is just another industry term for cheap. These veneers have unhealthy levels of glues (hello VOCs!), particle-board, and fake looking representations of wood.

Wood easily degrades with repeated use, especially in a small space.   Screws fall out, laminated panels come apart, handles fall off.  The hardware is most important as well.  Residential-style cabinetry hardware is simply not built to be used on the road.  These hinges, handles, and locking mechanisms will inevitably fail and require constant adjustment or replacement.  With this type of hardware, it will be common to reach your destination and find several cabinets open and all the contents shattered or broken on the floor.

I can only recommend one style of cabinetry – that is purpose-built for use in mobile environments, you guessed it, all-aluminum cabinetry.  This style of cabinets has features like full-length piano hinges, full aluminum frame, and multiple positive locking mechanisms to keep the drawer and doors closed while the travel trailer is being moved.   The surface of aluminum cabinets must be powder-coated as well.  This all-aluminum cabinetry design is highly durable, very easy to clean, and will last a lifetime.

aluminum travel trailer cabinets locked

Interior finishes are one major area where “looks can be deceiving.”  In the travel trailer industry, the interiors of trailers are receiving visual makeovers and becoming much more in line with modern-day design needs.  But before buying a trailer, look a little deeper to understand exactly how the unit was built.  Things to look out for include:

  • Most interior walls have nothing more than a one-eighth thick piece of cheap plywood with a faux wallpaper.  Take another look at how these are put together. What trailer builders call “mechanical-fasteners” are in reality just staples.
  • Cheap wood framing as the structural component of the wall.
  • Wallcoverings with dangerous VOC-emitting adhesives.
  • Fake elements – Take a closer look at that beautiful wood cabinetry. Is it actually wood or just a high-resolution “picture” of wood printed on top of composite sawdust?  Is the tile in the shower real or just plastic made to look like tile? Are the countertops solid-surface or just a thin veneer laminate designed to look like real stone?
  • Paint is made for covering drywall in homes and has no place inside a travel trailer.

A quality interior will be built from real materials that are purpose-designed to last a very long time – materials that are real and durable.  Pay close attention to the types of fixtures used – are they plastic or metal?  Look for real wood accents, not laminate or particleboard.  Is the flooring durable and installed in a way that won’t crack, peel or fall apart?  Are the countertops solid surface?  Is the cabinetry made from metal or wood – metal is by far superior.

6. Low- to No-maintenance & Service

When buying a travel trailer, you are inviting something beautiful into your lifestyle.  This is something that will provide you the home-base for all sorts of travels, adventures, and discovery.   Perhaps the simplest, and oddly most overlooked value when it comes to selecting a travel trailer, is what the ownership experience will feel like.

I encourage you to search online for “RV horror stories” to understand what it means to welcome a poor-quality travel trailer into your life.   A luxury travel trailer should perform well now and 10 years from now.  Daily, monthly, and yearly maintenance needs to take time.

How much maintenance will a trailer really require?  It depends on whether you bought quality or not. Consider how much time you are willing and able to dedicate to keeping your trailer maintained and in tip-top shape.  While cheap breaks and falls apart, quality is designed to function and designed to last.   Consider how much time you are willing to spend dealing with repairs and service items when components break or fail all together.

A luxury travel trailer is all about spending time with the ones you love, in the places you love.  It should be purpose-built with little-to-no maintenance requirements and allow you to spend the most time doing the things you love.

living vehicle aluminum travel trailer parked on snow

Travel trailers are designed to move and to be experienced in all types of environments.  Whether it be rain, snow, or salt on the road, or desert sun and sand, the exterior must be designed to withstand a myriad of elements.  Unlike a traditional brick and mortar home, trailers must respond to ALL conditions – as the open road and adventure is not always sunny and 75!

The most common for wood-framed construction is to use fiberglass. Over time, fiberglass is quite simply, a very poor choice. Fiberglass requires constant maintenance, cleaning, and caulking.  Because it may not be welded, fiberglass relies heavily on excessive use of caulking to keep out water.  An aluminum exterior is my top choice.  Aluminum is naturally light in color to keep heat radiation down in hot environments and is naturally resistant to decay.  And aluminum offers many options, be it raw mill finished, heat-treated with paint, or anodized like the aluminum used on most metal roofs today.  I highly recommend an anodized aluminum finish to create a very even appearance that is not susceptible to differential oxidization.

As an architect, I’m fascinated by the concept of the honesty of materiality.  One key feature of a material’s honesty is how well it functions over a long period of time.  Take one look at the Statue of Liberty, for example.  The manner Lady Liberty was built will last centuries, as it was intended.  The green color is a natural protective layer that was formed from copper and resists all sorts of decay.  Similarly, materials used in trailer design should embrace the natural characteristics of the material itself and actually get better with age.

A material successfully used in one application may not be appropriate for another.  Adopt this critical viewpoint when considering the materials of a trailer and ask yourself, “How will this wear in 5, 10, or 20 years?”  Consider the way you plan to use the travel trailer.  What types of abuse will the material be up against?   What expected maintenance will be required to keep the material functioning at a high level and doing what it is intended to do?

Lightweight design is one of the key principles of trailer design and engineering.  Weight is often directly at odds with quality and is a very delicate road that trailer designers must navigate.   One of my biggest disappointments in the trailer industry today is this “lightweight design” illusion – which is really just another way to hide the concept of “cheap.”   This is by far the biggest lie I’ve found in the industry today.

True lightweight design is difficult, time-consuming, and meticulous.  If a travel trailer is being touted as lightweight, consider this a red flag and be skeptical.  The main point here is to dig deeper to make your own decision based on real data, not flowery high-design interiors.   Take a closer look at the quality of the walls, cabinets, and fixtures.  Push on the walls – what are they made out of?  Open the cabinet door, what type of hinges are used?  How will the cabinet door be kept closed while being transported, with your food and dinnerware pushing up against the door?  Is the cabinet itself real – made from genuine, solid materials?

Touch and feel the fixtures, such as faucets, lights, switches, handles, and anything that is designed to be touched on a regular basis.  What are the fixtures made of?  Plastic is very common and disguised as metal and wood. This is not quality.  Do the switches look cheap?  If something looks good on the surface but feels poorly made, consider first, and please take this one seriously – how long will this last given the harsh realities of what a travel trailer is actually designed to do?

Most importantly, if the manufacturer is putting cheap fixtures right out front and center for everyone to touch and see, consider what the quality would be in all the items you aren’t able to see – inside where quality really matters. So, take a close look at walls, cabinets, and fixtures.  These are three excellent indicators that will tell you instantly if the term lightweight is a clever lie that is covering up the truth – cheap.‍

living vehicle in front of a canyon

The items in this list are what I have found to be the greatest indicators of a quality-built travel trailer. The responsibility to learn the truth is up to you.  I encourage you to ask questions and take your time to determine if a travel trailer meets your quality standards.  If you discover that a trailer does not meet your high-quality needs, the answer becomes an easy “no thank you”, and the search continues.

When it comes to purchasing a new travel trailer, I do not recommend buying a trailer that is lacking in quality, no matter the price.  It simply isn’t worth your time or money.  A travel trailer not only a sizeable investment but will be housing the friends and family you care about most - yourself included.  Shortcuts when it comes to quality are not only a poor investment but dangerous for your personal safety.  Unfortunately, the travel trailer market has become commoditized and manufacturers are competing on price.  Very few are focused on quality.

If you are primarily focused on budget and are not able to find a quality new travel trailer that suits your needs, I highly recommend considering buying pre-owned.  The unfortunate truth is that many manufacturers of travel trailers are simply okay with releasing products that barely work.  In fact, I have found this practice has become a sort of a consumer-led, quality-control business model. Instead of making all components built to a standard of quality to last for years to come, this becomes a fix it in warranty game.

I believe that quality is not only possible but will one day become the standard in the RV industry.  This does require a cultural shift.  If consumers stop buying poor-quality travel trailers, manufacturers will no longer build them.

What to Consider When Shopping for the Best Luxurious Travel Trailers

First of all, decide on the size and configuration of your RV. For example, do you want a luxury hotel suite for occasional use? Or do you want to live in a full-time mobile home? Next, consider how often you’ll go off-roading and boondocking and look for an RV that suits your lifestyle. Finally, read through reviews and chat with current owners to see how the RV meets expectations and what after-sales warranty and service support is like.

Travel Trailer Use

When shopping for a new RV, consider what you’ll use the RV for. Will you be living in it full-time? Will you just use it for long weekends? Will you be taking it on vacation? If you’re looking for a full-time residence, you’ll need more living and storage space. If your vacations include grandkids or friends, you’ll want to make sure you can accommodate everyone. You can get a smaller model if it’s just the two of you using the RV for an occasional weekend away.

How you plan on using the RV will affect the features you need and want. For example, if you plan on using the travel trailer lightly and prefer eating out at restaurants, you might not need a full-size kitchen. You may not need a washer/dryer combo if you just use the RV on weekends. The more time you plan on spending in your RV, the more features and upgrades you might need.

Boondocking Potential

Boondocking, or camping in remote places away from campgrounds, is a popular way to really enjoy the RV lifestyle. Boondocking allows you to enjoy pristine locations and connect with nature without distractions.

If you plan on boondocking, look for an RV that you can easily add solar power to. Most stock luxury travel trailers systems If you want to head off-road, look for an RV with high clearance and beefy tires.

Family Size

Like home shopping, one of the first considerations is overall size and accommodations. When home shopping, is a three-bedroom, two-bath necessary for your family, or could a one-bedroom condo suffice? When shopping for a luxury RV, consider how many people you need to accommodate. Is it just the two of you, with an occasional overnight guest? Are you traveling as a family? Do your kids need their own space, or can they share?

Some RVs are completely customizable. For example, you might be able to change a room that usually has a full-sized bed to a space with bunk beds. Or, you can add a sleeping loft to the living space or get a pull-out couch for extra sleeping accommodations.

Rig Capability

Another consideration when shopping for a luxury trailer is the rig’s overall set-up and capability. If you plan on driving highways and plugging into shore power, good gas mileage and ample accommodations might be at the top of your list. However, high road clearance and solar options might be of vital interest if you plan on off-roading or boondocking.

Overall Floor Plan and Luxury Features

The overall floor plan will be essential to your family’s enjoyment of the travel trailer. If you have mobility issues, look for a floor plan that doesn’t have levels or stairs. Some floor plans have minimal privacy and are more suited to a couple rather than a family. On the other hand, some floor plans feature more privacy with separate sleeping spaces.

Bedroom Design and Amenities

Many travel trailers are designed for a couple who occasionally host overnight guests. If you travel as a family, you might want an RV with separate bedrooms. If you travel full-time, privacy and convenience become more of a necessity. You don’t want to have to convert your dinette into a sleeping area 365 days a year.

The primary bedroom on luxury models will usually be a comfortable queen-size bed or even a king-size bed. This provides enough space to make you feel like you’re at home.

Bathroom Design

If you travel alone or with just one or two family members, a bathroom set-up should suffice. However, if you are traveling as a larger family, you might consider shopping for an RV with two bathrooms.

Some luxury RV models feature a master bedroom suite with en-suite bathrooms for extra privacy. The best luxury travel trailers have dry baths, which means the shower facilities are separate from the toilet area. Luxury features include skylights, vessel sinks, high-end flooring, and heated towel racks.

Luxury Kitchens

Luxury kitchens, also called galleys, try to recreate the space and convenience found in residential kitchens. For example, the nicest travel trailers often feature a full-sized residential refrigerator and freezer. These fridges have the option for luxury wood paneling to match the rest of the cabinetry. Cabinets are made from real wood, such as hand-rubbed maple.

Luxury RV galleys have microwaves, stoves, and ovens. Many galleys have kitchen islands. These offer excellent galley prep space but take away space from the dinette or lounge area. Countertops and sinks are made with high-end materials.

High End Travel Trailer Options

While luxury RV models feature upgraded flooring, hardwood cabinets, and LED lighting, there are usually many add-ons to choose from. For example, you can often customize the type of wood used in your kitchen cabinets, and choose the exact type of flooring.

Other luxury options include adding Bluetooth technology to appliances, washing machines, and kitchen upgrades. In addition, many luxury travel trailers help owners enjoy outdoor time with grills, one-touch electric awnings, outdoor tables, LED lighting, showers, and TV hookups.

Building Materials Found in Nice Travel Trailers

Luxury RV manufacturers use lightweight , strong materials with a focus on aerodynamics, insulation, and keeping climate control costs manageable. Manufacturers such as Airstream and Bowlus use lightweight, strong aluminum. Grand Design offers an Arctic Package with additional insulation.

Luxury RV manufacturers use premium materials in their interiors. Cabinets are made with real wood. Showers often feature teak seating and accents. Kitchens have stainless steel appliances and high-quality sinks.

Luxury Package Flooring Options

Many RVs feature hard floors, which are easy to clean. Carpet can feel great under bare feet, but it’s harder to keep clean, especially with kids and pets.

RV plumbing is a necessary but complicated system. If your trailer is intended for boondocking, it will often have bigger fresh water and wastewater holding tanks. Most luxury travel trailers incorporate on-demand hot water systems, so you’ll always have hot water available. In addition, luxury travel trailers often have outdoor showers.

Tow Vehicle Capacity

If you already own your tow vehicle or have the perfect one picked out, consider your vehicle’s tow capacity. Many luxury RVs are heavier than comparably sized budget RVs. Don’t just focus on the empty tow weight. Consider how much the RV will weigh when loaded with belongings and groceries.

Luxury Trailer Gas Mileage

How much gas you’ll use depends on your tow vehicle’s efficiency, your RV’s weight, and how aerodynamic your rig is. A large, heavy, 41-foot travel trailer will significantly reduce your tow vehicle’s gas mileage. A small, light, aerodynamic trailer will do better. If you choose a small, light trailer that you can tow it with a more efficient SUV, you’ll save a lot of gas money.

Figuring out your gas mileage and how much extra weight in your rig is worth extra consideration. There’s a definite give and take; you can find efficient SUVs that get good gas mileage, but once you attach a tow rig to them their mileage tanks considerably. In actuality, the most efficient and safest option for towing may be a large truck or even a semi for some of the biggest luxury travel trailers.

On the same token, you will sometimes find that Class A motor coaches come with more options and features than luxury towables. If you don’t already have a tow vehicle that you need to use, a Class A might provide more high-end options without having to worry about towing and gas mileage.

Travel Trailer Length

The longer your travel trailer, the harder it is to manage on the road. Parking a smaller rig is much easier than parking a massive trailer. In addition, a smaller rig is easier to find campsites for and easier to back up.

Of course, there is a linear relationship between the length of the trailer and how luxurious it really is. Luxury campers are usually longer than average. But there are plenty of smaller trailers and ultralight campers on the market now that are adding more luxury features.

Luxury travel trailers are more expensive than standard trailers. And, after adding in options and additional features, the costs can add up quickly. Once the purchase is finalized, you’ll still have a bevy of things to get to make your RV feel like home , like luxury bedding, kayaks, and RV grills .

Warranty Options

RV warranties can quickly get confusing. Some manufacturers offer a “stem to stern” warranty covering everything in the RV. Others offer separate warranties for the structure, chassis, tires, and electrical items. Some warranties cover structural faults but won’t cover appliances. Warranties usually have a fixed time frame and often have different time frames for different items.

Some warranties will transfer to second owners, and some won’t. Warranty administrators often request proof that you’ve followed recommended maintenance schedules to qualify for a warranty claim. Make sure you review warranty paperwork and know exactly what your warranty covers.

Another level of confusion is that luxury RVs roll off the factory with a ton of appliances and add-ons, and each one comes from a separate manufacturer. For example, your Dometic furnace is covered by Dometic’s warranty–not the RV company’s. While your RV manufacturer may help you navigate this, chances are you’ll wind up working directly with the appliance manufacturer for service or repairs.

Maintenance on High-End Travel Trailers

All trailers will need RV maintenance . After all, being on the road can cause additional wear and tear. Luxury RVs use higher-quality materials that should cause fewer issues. In addition, new luxury RVs often have lithium batteries that require less maintenance and have higher capabilities. However, you’ll still need to change your oil, check your tires, do brake maintenance, check your brake lights, and clean the slide-out seals.

Using a High-End Camper in All Weather Conditions

Like when driving a regular vehicle, you don’t want to drive in hazardous conditions. If there’s a thunderstorm that will cause limited visibility or slick roads, rearrange your planned trip to avoid the bad weather. Driving a car in dangerous conditions is risky, but driving a travel trailer in bad conditions has added problems. You are towing significant weight, so its harder to stop immediately if the car in front of you brakes suddenly.

Traveling during freezing temperatures requires additional thought. You don’t want to leave your trailer unheated as freezing temperatures could damage your plumbing. If you want a four-season trailer, look for a package with additional insulation and good heating options.

Many luxury trailers offer heated floors, radiators, reverse cycle A/C, heating pads on holding tanks, and heated underbellies. These additional features will make sure your trailer, plumbing, and appliances stay warm and operational even in the coldest temperatures.

Additional insulation with also help if you plan on using your trailer in very hot conditions. Most luxury trailers come with A/C to provide climate control.

Pros and Cons of Owning Luxury Pull Behind Campers

There are countless benefits of owning a luxury travel trailer. When you own a home on wheels, you can explore the country at your own pace. This isn’t camping, so there’s no stress over constantly finding hotel rooms and accommodations. A luxury camper makes you feel as comfortable as when you are at home, so there’s never any benefit to staying anywhere else.

In addition, you can bring your home to remote areas such as national parks and pristine beaches where there aren’t any hotels. You can visit busy locations and festivals without worrying about not finding a hotel room. Plus, when you bring your entire home, you don’t have to worry about forgetting that sweater or your laptop’s power cord.

Traveling in a travel trailer allows you to spend quality time with your family and travel at your own pace. Owning a luxury travel trailer means you don’t have to leave the comforts of home behind. Luxury travel trailers have all the features of a high-end hotel. In addition, they offer a high standard of cleanliness.

Built with high-quality materials, a luxury travel trailer travels well and doesn’t need constant maintenance due to cheap parts or poor construction. As a result, you can spend more time enjoying your travels and less time fixing things and paying for broken equipment.

Luxury travel trailers make life on the road comfortable. You can lounge and watch TV, enjoy outdoor meals, and relax under a one-touch electric awning. You can live and work in a beautiful home with solid, high-quality furnishings and enjoy continuous hot water and spa showers.

Luxury travel trailers are in high demand and retain a high resell value. In addition, they tend to sell quickly and don’t stay on the market long.

One of the main disadvantages is the higher initial price tag. With the added expense of stainless steel appliances, energy-efficient settings, and additional insulation, luxury travel trailers are more expensive than standard trailers. However, the added energy efficiency and resell value offer added value.

  • Best Luxury RV Brands for Each RV Class - June 8, 2022

Sorting through the abundance of the best luxury travel trailer brands can be tricky with all of the information out there. I can even start feeling my head start spinning in circles while searching for the differences in each luxury travel trailer. The best way that I have found to organize my thoughts while shopping for a luxury travel trailer is to classify each brand for what I think they are best for .

Before jumping into the best luxury travel trailer brands and what they’re suitable for, let’s go over what a luxury travel trailer is. A travel trailer is a type of RV situated on top of a standard trailer chassis, and the closest thing they resemble is a modular home. What makes them luxurious are the unique features and amenities that take them over the top, like heated floors, electric fireplaces, automatic leveling systems, etc.

Bottom Line Up Front

I find that Bowlus travel trailers have everything that you could possibly need in a luxury travel trailer and more. From the durability to these RVs’ unique features and design, you can find a little bit of everything made for anyone.

Whether you are taking the family out for a road trip or wanting to spend some much-needed time in the wilderness, Bowlus has you covered without missing any of the comforts of home (and a few of the luxuries might not find at home).

The Ultimate Luxury RV | Bowlus®

A Bowlus luxury travel trailer embodies the ultimate in performance, technology, and luxury, making it the perfect adventure-ready RV. The original aluminum travel trailer, Bowlus has an iconic heritage of innovation and is the top choice for modern adventurers, land travelers, and camping enthusiasts.

My Top Picks at a Glance

  • Bowlus :   This RV brand was  first introduced in 1934 by RV pioneer Hawley Bowlus. With a history stretching back nearly 100 years, these luxury travel trailers are incredibly durable, innovative, and elegantly designed, making them my favorite luxury travel trailer.
  • Palomino Puma: Being one of the most spacious travel trailer brands on the market, these trailers can sleep up to ten people. They are also so spacious and full of residential features that they may confuse you for a small home.
  • Black Series: This brand has you covered for  all of you road trippers that like to take it way out in the wilderness. Their trailers are equipped with 600 watts of solar power, larger than average water tanks, and off-roading capabilities.
  • Forest River R-Pod: If you don’t feel comfortable enough to pull a large trailer, Forest River makes small, lightweight luxury trailers that have all the amenities of home. Even though they are small, they are efficiently planned to make them seem bigger.
  • Keystone: You can have exactly what you want to a T in the RV world with Keystone travel trailers. They have over 200 floorplans to choose from and many useful add-ons for each camper.

Things to Consider

travel trailer

Everyone has their personal preferences and things that are important for their lifestyle regarding RVs. Not every travel trailer can accommodate every preference out there, so it is crucial to figure out what is most important to you. Here are a few things that you should consider before even starting to shop for a luxury travel trailer.

Number of People Traveling

Whether you have a family, like to travel with friends, or want to travel solo, you need to consider how many people will be sleeping in your travel trailer before purchasing. There are travel trailers small enough that they only fit two people and travel trailers that can sleep up to ten people.

There will always be at least one bed in your trailer, but you can also add on options with a fold-out bed, a jackknife sofa, bunk beds, or a booth dinette that folds down into a bed.

What Vehicle You Have to Tow with

Travel trailers need a vehicle that can pull the weight that they put on your vehicle. Not all vehicles have the towing capacity to tow any travel trailer. There are larger travel trailers that need a larger truck to be able to tow them, especially if they are a fifth wheel or toy hauler . You can also get a smaller travel trailer that is light enough to be pulled behind a small crossover or even an electric vehicle.

Travel Trailer Length

The length of a travel trailer can significantly affect the ease of pulling it. A longer travel trailer will be more difficult to pull, whereas a smaller trailer will be easier to pull.

The longer the trailer is, the harder it is to maneuver it around turns, back it up, accelerate and stop, and it will sway in high ends pulling your vehicle around. If you aren’t very experienced with pulling trailers, I recommend starting with a smaller travel trailer.

Do You Want to Go Off-Grid

Off-grid camping is when you are camping without access to external electrical sources or freshwater. Certain travel trailers have features that store or make electricity and clean water.

These features include lithium batteries, solar panels, generators, and water filtration systems. You can also get travel trailers built to handle roads off the beaten path if you want to go way out into the wilderness.

towing travel trailer

Selection Criteria

A few key differences make a travel trailer luxurious vs. a regular travel trailer. Regular travel trailers will be more basic, without some standard amenities and features that you would typically have in a home, whereas luxury travel trailers have these things. Below are a few things that I made sure that each of these trailers had to be added to this list.

Ease of Towing

There are certain features that a travel trailer can have that make it easier to tow than your standard trailers, such as electric breaks, aerodynamics, and center of gravity.

This will keep wind pull, wear and tear on your vehicle, and deceleration much easier for you in the long run. Standard trailers don’t take any of this into consideration when manufacturing them.

Top of the Line Features

Some of the features and amenities you can find in these luxury travel trailers are nicer than those in a home, such as heated floors, electric fireplaces, and outdoor entertainment centers.

Everything else should be things you find in a home, like residential appliances, a dry bath, and hardwood cabinetry. You will also see some pretty impressively designed finishes and floorplans in these RVs.

Technologically Advanced

Technology has made our lives so much more convenient throughout the years, and there should be no exception when it comes to luxury travel trailers.

A central control panel for the entire RV, UVC air filters, GPS trackers, and electric auto-leveling systems are all things that you can find in your travel trailer to make your adventure a little easier.

You will also find items in your luxury RV that you can find in your home, such as smart TVs and dimming LED lights.

Best Luxury Travel Trailer Brands

Best overall: bowlus.

Bowlus Road Chief

This brand could easily be confused with an Airstream, but it is not and is, in my opinion, better than Airstream trailers. You get the same vintage design inside and out with an aluminum shell and wooden paneling covering the interior. They are also built to last with some Bowlus travel trailers over fifty years old and still in mint condition.

You’ll find many unique features inside the Bowlus such as heated floors (great when you’re winter camping) and HEPA air filtration with UVC. Bowlus even offers luxury amenities like a pet station and a custom bed that will keep your dog or cat comfy while you camp.

Safety features in the Bowlus include Bluetooth electric brakes. The Terra Firma even has a smart brake controller that can be programmed to work with multiple tow vehicles, giving you the ultimate flexibility when you travel.

Bowlus trailers can be off-grid in the wilderness for weeks thanks to the most powerful lithium iron batteries on the market and optional solar panels. The company has designed its electrical systems to be as energy efficient as possible – you can even run the air conditioner for up to two nights.

Even though Bowlus trailers are relatively long, with the smallest model being 27 feet long, they are pretty easy to drive due to the electric breaks, their low center of gravity, and they are built to be highly aerodynamic.

They are also very sustainable in that they are lightweight enough to be pulled by an electric vehicle, which is remarkable for this big of a trailer. Some other ways that Bowlus is sustainable are through its material sourcing, energy efficiency, and water efficiency.

  • Sustainable practices
  • Lightweight and easy to tow
  • Unique features
  • Off-grid capabilities
  • Elegant, vintage design
  • Extremely durable
  • On the pricier end

Best for Space: Palomino Puma

puma front end travel trailer

If you want a travel trailer that you could live in full time, Palomino Puma has a trailer for you. Once you step inside one of these, it feels like you are in a small house rather than an RV with all residential kitchen appliances, an entertainment center with an electric fireplace, and tons of room to get around comfortably.

The design of these travel trailers is also very modern, with shiplap style walls, hardwood cabinetry, and elegant finishes. Palomino Puma also has excellent travel trailers for those that have large families or like to travel with lots of friends because they can sleep up to ten people.

They even have a floor plan with a second bedroom, so your guests or family can have their own room. They create this much sleeping space with a queen-size bed, a double bunk, a jackknife sofa, and a fold-down dinette.

  • Sleeps up to 10 people
  • Very spacious
  • Homey interior design
  • Convenient electrical features
  • Residential appliances
  • Not great customer service

Best for Off-Grid: Black Series

black series camper

Sometimes, we all need a little escape from civilization, and these travel trailers have you covered for when you want to be way out in the wilderness.

Each of Black Series’ trailers is equipped with a large fresh water tank, 600 watts of solar power, and 200 amp hours of battery so you can live off-grid for weeks, if not months.

These trailers are also built to withstand some of the most challenging roads with independent suspension, a steel armored chassis, and off-road tires.

The interior of these travel trailers could fool anyone into thinking they are in a luxury hotel with elegant designs, all the appliances you could need, and a dry bath in some models.

I honestly am blown away by how good they made the interior of these trailers look. If you decide to spend more time outdoors, they have an entire outdoor kitchen set up with an electric awning and an outdoor sound system.

  • Off-road capabilities
  • Aerodynamic body
  • Outdoor leisure space
  • Elegant interior design
  • Heavy GVWR weight

Best Small Trailer: Forest River R-Pod

forest river r-pod

The most excellent thing about having a smaller trailer over a larger trailer is they are effortless to tow. Forest River’s R-pods are some of the most lightweight small trailers on the market with some of the lightest weighings under 3,000 lbs, which can be pulled by most small crossover vehicles and even some electric vehicles.

They also feature electric breaks and have an aerodynamic exterior to make stopping and minimizing wind resistance easier.

Even though R-pods are small, they have built the floor plans to utilize all the space given with storage options and all of the necessary amenities and to make it feel open.

They have also included many unique features, such as a vacuum port that you can sweep dirt into, a pet-friendly utility hook, n tinted windows. You can also add a screened-in awning system, an outdoor kitchen, and a solar system.

  • Extremely lightweight
  • Modern, homey design
  • Efficient floor plans
  • Easy to tow
  • Not very spacious

Most Customizable: Keystone

keystone rv

Keystone has anything and everything you could possibly want in your RV, from a small two-person trailer with the bare minimum to a sizeable luxurious trailer that fits the whole family and makes you feel at home.

You can choose between over 200 different floor plans, so there is likely a trailer that fits your specific wants because they’ve thought of nearly everything.

There are also a lot of handy add-ons that can further customize your trailer to your needs, such as large solar packages, a cold-weather package, and a central monitor system.

Nearly every trailer is a build-it-yourself model, with the ability to add on whatever appliances or luxuries you want, including a larger refrigerator, an electric fireplace, an entertainment center, and customizable furniture to accommodate more sleepers.

Almost all of these trailers also have slide-outs adding a ton of space to your trailer. You will also find modern finishes, such as tile backsplashes, iron light fixtures, and rustic wood-looking floors.

  • Over 200 floorplans
  • Lots of useful add-ons
  • Modern finishes
  • Luxury appliances
  • Not super durable

Question: What is a luxury travel trailer?

Answer: Luxury travel trailers are high-end travel trailers that include all of the standard amenities that your house would typically have. In a luxury travel trailer, you can find residential appliances, modern finishes, convenient technology, and features that make it easier to tow. Most luxury travel trailers also have options for off-grid camping and outdoor entertainment spaces.

Question: How much does a luxury travel trailer cost?

Answer: A luxury travel trailer can cost anywhere from $50,000 to $250,000. It all depends on what brand, what size of a trailer, and the amenities and features you decide to go with. The pricier the travel trailer is, the more durable it will be, it will include more unique features, and the easier it will be to tow.

Question: Which travel trailer brand is the most reliable?

Answer: Bowlus has some of the most durable travel trailers I have seen on the market. This brand specializes in travel trailers alone and has been making them for nearly one hundred years. The original engineer of the Bowlus trailer was an airplane engineer and used the same materials and practices in creating an aircraft as with Bowlus travel trailers inside and out.

Final Thoughts

These travel trailer brands have their own unique benefits, but I can’t get over how well Bowlus trailers fit into nearly every box. I find it especially remarkable that they can make a large trailer so light and durable at the same time. I’m also a sucker for any company that puts sustainability at the top of its priorities, and Bowlus does just that.

They may be a bit more expensive than some other trailer brands, but I think these trailers are totally worth it, especially since they will most likely outlast any other trailer brand on this page.

The Andersen Hitches Review That You’ll Love

The Andersen Hitches Review That You’ll Love

One of the key questions I had to answer when deciding to travel full-time was, “What type of RV am I going to buy?” This is important for several reasons because it dictates your choice of vehicle. If you get a motorhome, you can tow it and get a small sedan or SUV.

If you go with a travel trailer, you can probably get by with a smaller truck like a Ford F150. But if you choose a fifth wheel, you have to have something capable of pulling it. Not only that, but you have to have a hitch that can handle the payload.

Most people choose to go with a standard fifth wheel hitch. This involves backing up the vehicle until the fifth wheel’s tongue snaps into place inside the receiver. But Andersen Hitch has changed the way people think about pulling the fifth wheel.

Is an Andersen hitch right for everyone? Probably not. But this innovative company has created a hitch that redefines the way RV travelers pull their campers. Keep reading t

Bowlus Introduces the All-New 2025 Rivet Travel Trailer

Bowlus Introduces the All-New 2025 Rivet Travel Trailer

OXNARD, Calif. – Bowlus , a world leader in performance luxury recreational vehicles, today announces the public reveal of the new Rivet . The Rivet is Bowlus’ most rugged travel trailer, a total departure from its current product line, according to a release. Although keeping the trade-marked shape, the Rivet targets customers seeking serious adventures while still enjoying the brand’s positioning as a preeminent luxury RV.

Bowlus is the original riveted aluminum travel trailer with a long history of adventure firsts. With the Rivet compact floorplan at 25 feet, 3 inches, owners enjoy hard-wearing finishes, a large separate bedroom with a king bed, a luxury ensuite bathroom, and a roomy living room and kitchen while still readily traversing the country’s most dramatic campsites. The Rivet is $148,500 after tax credit.*

“Bowlus has a long history of building RVs for a lifetime of adventures, and the Rivet certainly delivers on the Bowlus standard of incredible build quality while also offering features for rugged experiences. We don’t spend time with cute concepts as a privately held company. Instead, we do the tough work to make things happen, which means we deliver durable features that speak directly to RV owners,” said Geneva Long, Founder & CEO.

Robust-specced power management systems with yacht-quality 8 kWh lithium and up to 660 W of solar power generation allow indefinite time off-grid in all conditions. Like all Bowlus models, the Rivet can run all appliances (including the air-conditioning and heating) off-grid via the best-in-class Bowlus Power Management System and AeroSolar. A hearty three-inch lift kit for added off-road clearance with all-terrain tires supporting off-road access, giving Bowlus owners complete flexibility in choosing campsites – from off-grid boondocking to luxury campsites.

Bowlus is the most aerodynamic RV, and with the Rivet’s flyweight GVWR of 3,500 pounds, it is towable by the most extensive selection of vehicles of any other full-sized RV – including EVs like the Tesla Y for impressive range and MPG ratings.

The Rivet is the first production RV to be self-propelled, self-powered, and remote-controlled, enabling access virtually anywhere. With exceptional power and traction, the AeroMove drives up steep slopes, turns 360 degrees, and can maneuver the Rivet into campsites, driveways, and parallel parking spaces. Customers can add the AeroMove feature for an additional $10,000.

“AeroMove is something campers have only dreamed about until now. We have been quietly working on this feature for over five years to hone the best functionality for our customers – we are so pleased to feature this game-changing technology,” noted Long.

The Rivet is available in a dynamic interior decor package called “Onyx.” A striking color palette with matte black detailing gives it an exciting, bold architectural edge. The decor package features true performance materials with a selection of materials that make the Rivet unique.

The Rivet can also comfortably sleep up to four travelers.

Customers can preorder the Rivet at www.bowlus.com with a $100 refundable deposit.

One brand leaps to mind when most of us think about travel trailers—Airstream. Its iconic aluminum-sided caravans have been instrumental in popularizing road trips and camping in the US for decades. One need only look at the company’s Globetrotter model to see why: In addition to looking beautiful, the silver-covered caravan is packed with creature comforts to keep you traveling comfortably. It’s not the brand’s largest model—that would be the flagship Classic —but it’s available with one of six different floor plans, each of which has room for a spacious entertainment area (that can sleep up to four adults).

Inside you’ll find a full-featured kitchen, half-bathroom, shower and sizable bedroom with either a queen-sized bed or two twins. As you would expect from Airstream, the amenities are top-rate, too, like Franke faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, stainless steel appliances, Quietstream climate control system and multiple LG LED TVs. The Globetrotter starts at $120,000. If it doesn’t fit the bill, the brand has plenty of other models to choose from, including collaboration editions like the extra-homey Pottery Barn Edition or their ultra-rare Supreme edition .

Special Features: —There are different floor plans to choose from, each of which features a full kitchen, half bathroom and dedicated shower.

—The Quietstream climate control system barely makes a peep, even when the heater or A/C is running.

—A built-in canopy provides shade when you want to spend time outside.

Best Travel Trailer for Luxury Lovers

Bowlus endless highways performance edition.

It may not be the most famous shiny caravan maker—that would be Airstream—but Bowlus is the company that gave us the first riveted travel trailer. The company, which was revived in 2014, knows not to mess with a good thing, so its well-regarded trailers—like our favorite, the Endless Highways Performance Edition —look just like those it produced in the 1930s, only bigger and with better materials (think: alclad aluminum for the exterior and birchwood for the interior).

Despite its classic look, the $225,000 trailer has all the conveniences you expect in 2022, including heat and air-conditioning systems, a WiFi modem and plenty of outlets for charging all your smart devices. Best of all, though, might be a lithium iron phosphate that gives you the ability to live off the grid for two peaceful weeks. If you’re an animal lover, there’s also the Terra Firma , which features a bunch of Fido-friendly features like a built-in food bowl, pet bed and remote temperature control system.

Special Features:

—Thee’s a double-sided indoor galley and an outdoor cooking area with electric and propane outlets.

—The hotel-style shower has teak flooring and seating.

—Lithium iron phosphate power system can keep the entire trailer running for up to two weeks.

Best Travel Trailer for Off-Road Enthusiasts

Bruder exp-6.

There’s spending a few days at a mild-mannered campground, and then there’s really roughing it. If your idea of a good time leans towards the latter, the Bruder EXP-6 is probably what you’re looking for. The Australian-designed trailer, which starts at $68,000, has a heavy-duty suspension that allows it to tackle just about any terrain, no matter how treacherous. The caravan has a rough-and-tumble design that more closely resembles that of a combat vehicle than something you’d take on a weekend jaunt with the family. Despite this, the EXP-6 opens up to reveal an elegant and modern interior cabin with a full bathroom, loads of storage space and an adjustable roof that increases sleeping capacity from four to six (possibly more if you have the kids with you). Outside the trailer, you’ll find a slide-out kitchen with everything you need to prepare a full meal. Roof-mounted solar panels, meanwhile, should provide more than enough juice to keep the climate control system and flat screen TV going.

Special Features:

—A pop-up roof provides extra sleeping space at night, and lowers when you’re on the move.

—All-terrain tires and special suspension system mean it’s ready for off-road camping.

—A slide-out kitchenette opens up room for six adults to sleep.

Best Travel Trailer to Live In

Living vehicle.

Matthew Hofmann’s  Living Vehicle  trailers aren’t just for a weekend in the woods; they’re for actually living there. The chrome, shoe box-shaped trailer offers everything you would want from a New York apartment, with basically the same square footage. Costing $230,000, the former architect’s trailers have it all—outsized windows, a skylight, spa-style bathroom, washing machine and a roof-top solar system allowing for off-the-grid living. And because everyone’s idea of what makes the perfect home is their own, each unit is fully customizable

—A pull-out balcony opens up the trailer on nice days.

—The spa-like bathroom will make you forget you’re staying on a campground.

—There’s an onboard washing machine. Enough said.

Best Travel Trailer for Entertaining

Tabbert cellini slide-out.

The  Tabbert Cellini Slide-Out may look like the trailer of your youth on the outside, but that’s where the similarities stop. Open up the side door of the sizable German model and you’ll find it’s as luxurious as the most decked-out rock star tour bus, only a little more tasteful. Starting at $83,425, the trailer’s spacious and glossy interior features a full-sized kitchen, comfortable living area and a bedroom with more than enough room for a queen-sized mattress and a gorgeous wood and steel-decorated bathroom. Also, as the name hints, it features a slide out section that makes the trailer’s already deceptively large living area even larger.

—A slide-out section mean’s there’s room for a full-sized kitchen and bar.

—A luxurious wood-and-steel interior looks more like a hotel room than the inside of a caravan.

—The master bedroom has enough room for a queen-size mattress.

Best Travel Trailer for Going Off-the-Grid

Escapod topo2.

The Escapod Topo2 is a trailer for anyone looking to take their camping trip off road with minimal fuss. The brand’s update of the classic teardrop trailer is an off-road-friendly model without any of the bulk. Unlike most of the trailers on this list, Escapod’s bedroom and kitchen area are separated from one another. The dedicated sleeping area has room for a queen-size mattress and is equipped with a stargazer window so you can really take in the peace and quiet of the great outdoors. The galley, meanwhile, is only accessible from outside the $39,500 trailer, but has ample counter space for meal prep and cooking. Both sections get their power from a VPR 4EVER lithium ion battery with some solar panels to help keep things running smoothly and efficiently.

—Exterior is made from a single-piece of composite fiberglass that is rugged and weather-resistant.

—Laser-cut tube steel frame should last for years.

—Bedroom’s stargazer window offers up a beautiful view of your surroundings.

Best Travel Trailer for Tech Obsessives

Retreat cabin and ozxcorp’s erv.

It was only a matter of time until the electric revolution made its way to the world of trailers and campers. Retreat Caravan and OzXcorp’s ERV is a rugged trailer that also happens to run entirely on battery power. Roof-mounted solar panels provide juice for a 14.3-kWh lithium battery that keeps the trailer’s many appliances running. And while the trailer is perfectly equipped for some off-road fun, thanks to a specially tuned suspension and all-terrain tires, it also packs all of the comforts of a luxe hotel room inside, including a bathroom, spacious seating area and master bedroom suite with a king-sized bed and closets. But the true highlight may be the $75,000 caravan’s full-size kitchen, which features an induction cooktop, fridge and washing machine. There’s also a Weber electric barbecue and slow cooker for making your meals outdoors.

—Solar panels and 14.3-kWh battery power the trailer and let you go off grid.

—A specially tuned suspension and large all-terrain tires let you go off-road.

—The primary bedroom has enough room for a king-size bed and its own closets.

Best Travel Trailer for Stylish Trips

Eriba touring 820.

Are you looking for an aluminum-sided trailer that looks like more than just another Airstream or Bowlus’s rip-off? If so, the Eriba Touring 820 might fit the bill. The company’s top-of-the-line caravan updates the classic silver bullet look with a retro-futuristic shape and details. Even more impressive, though, is the 27-foot-trailer’s interior. The company has packed it full of luxury amenities like a sizable, leather-covered lounge area (that can be converted into a bed), customizable mood lighting and a surprisingly fashionable bathroom. The true highlight, though, is a bedroom with a large panoramic window that offers up a gorgeous views of your surroundings. That’s good, too, since you might not actually want to leave the $88,500 trailer.

—The kitchen has a mini wine cellar for keeping your best bottles at the ready.

—The leather-upholstered entertainment area can be converted into an additional sleeping area at night.

—Adjustable mood lighting will help you feel at home no matter where you are.

Best Travel Trailer for Families

Land ark drake.

Almost more of a portable house than a trailer, the  Land Ark Drake basically lets you take all the comforts of home on the road. The gigantic, yet stylish, two-level, 357-square-feet trailer can comfortably sleep seven adults. Stark and modern on the outside, the trailer features an equally clean white-washed pine and black metal decorated interior. Across its two floors, it has room for a full-sized kitchen, living room and bathroom (which includes a bathtub), along with two loft bedrooms and an office which can also be converted to a sleeping area. Its $139,000 starting price may sound a lot for a trailer, but for a two-story house on wheels it’s not that bad.

—The two-level design means you have 357-square-feet of space.

—Downstairs bathroom includes a tub for when you need to take a relaxing soak.

—It has a primary bedroom and two loft-style sleeping areas.

Best Travel Trailer for EV Owners

Polydrops p17a.

The Polydrops’s P17A is a high-tech trailer designed specifically to be pulled by an electric vehicle. This starts with its angular, teardrop exterior. Looking more like a space pod than a caravan, this design helps keep weight down to a feather-light 1,200 pounds, making it easier to tow. Also helping is a unique power system specifically designed to ease stress on your EV, be it a car, SUV or truck. That power setup suits another purpose, though, as it provides more than enough juice for six days of off-grid living. Although it is more streamlined than some of the other options on this list, the $36,000 model includes a climate control system, a full-size bed, warm LED lighting and an optional kitchenette for preparing meals. The gull-wing doors are pretty cool, too.

—A solar-assisted lithium-iron-phosphate power system reduces stress on an EV’s powertrain.

—It has enough juice to run for six days off the grid, even if you are using the climate control system.

—Gull-wing-style doors and rear hatch can be left open on a nice day.

Best Travel Trailer for Beginners

Colorado teardrops boulder.

There are EV-friendly trailers and then there’s Colorado Teardrops’s Boulder . Not only is the company’s latest designed to be towed by a battery-powered SUV or truck, it can also charge your EV’s battery. That ability comes courtesy a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a built-in DC fast charger that will give you some much needed peace of mind out on the open road. At the very least, it gives you the freedom to come up with a route centered around sights instead of charging stations. Aside from this very vital feature, the compact caravan has everything two adults and two children need to live off the grid for a for a few days, including a comfortable queen-sized mattress, two bunk beds (for the kids), an enclosed kitchenette and an optional climate control system. The $55,000 trailer also comes in a variety of two-tone color schemes that all look pretty sharp.

—Doesn’t just ease the burden on your EV’s battery; it can charge it, too.

—A unique bunk-bed design creates room for four people to sleep (two adults and two children).

—The enclosed kitchenette has plenty of counter space.

Best Travel Trailer for Couples

Hunter nature raptor xc.

A big trailer can be a godsend on the campground, especially if you’re traveling with family or friends. The problem, of course, is getting the hulking vehicle there. No matter how experienced the driver, maneuvering a large caravan can be very tricky. Luckily there are trailers like Hunter Nature’s Raptor XC . The brand’s angular model looks compact but features a pull-out section that just about doubles the size of its interior. When it’s fully extended you’ll have more than enough room for a dedicated living area, kitchen and bedroom. This will come in handy if there’s more than two in your traveling party, too. That’s because the $44,000 trailer’s entertainment area can easily be converted into an additional sleeping area at night.

—An expanding segment turns this trailer into a multi-room cabin.

—The bedroom has a large skylight so you can see the stars at night.

—A spacious lounge can be converted into an additional sleeping area if you need more room.

Best Travel Trailer for Roughing It

Taxa mantis.

It can be hard to find a trailer that fits everyone’s needs, but the Taxa Mantis comes close. Its no-nonsense design means it fits with nearly anyone’s style. Thanks to a pop-up roof section, ingenious use of space and plenty of storage compartments, the Mantis has all the room you and your friends and family need to camp in comfort, which can be crucial on longer trips. It’s also got all the necessary features, including a bathroom with a built-in shower, water heater, kitchenette and 8,000 BTU air conditioner. The trailer, which starts at $46,000, is ideal for off-roading, but there’s a special Overland edition if you want something even more rugged.

—A pop-up roof means you don’t have to sleep in the kitchen if you don’t want to.

—There’s a built-in water heater and climate control system with a 8,000 BTU air conditioner.

—It comes with a built-in canopy for outdoor hangouts.

Best Travel Trailer Under 5,000 Pounds

Happier camper hc1.

Imagine if you didn’t need a truck or SUV to tow your trailer. You don’t if the caravan in question is Happier Camper’s compact HC1 . The Los Angeles-based outfit’s smallest model is as light as they come, with a dry weight of just 1,100 pounds, meaning it can be towed by practically any car, even a modern-day Mini Cooper. It features a semi-modular interior designed by Adaptiv that can be customized to fit your camping style—components snap in like Legos—with either a full kitchen or enough sleeping room for up to five people. You can even add solar panels if you want to go off the grid. The $34,450 trailer’s old-school design is also sure to stand out on practically any campground. Even better, no pickups needed.

—At only 1,100 pounds, it can be towed by just about any car.

—The semi-modular floor plan allows you to arrange the interior to accommodate your camping style.

—The larger rear hatch opens up space when you are entertaining.

Best Travel Trailer for Tesla Fans

Tesla cybertruck trailer.

Wait, the Cybertruck is a pickup, right? Yes it is, but Elon Musk has also revealed that the company is developing on a matching trailer for its battery-electric truck , or, as he put it, a “sick attachment.” As with many of the CEO’s bolder announcements, details are still scarce, but the Cybertruck’s 14,000-pound towing capacity suggests it will be sizable and well-stocked. But if the idea of dragging an angular trailer behind your pickup sounds cumbersome, the EV maker is also working on a self-contained camper configuration. Based on renders, this add-on will include a pop-up tent, extra seating and a kitchenette-area.

—No final design has been unveiled, but you can bet it will match the Cybertruck perfectly.

—It’s likely to have a battery system that will help aid (or even charge) your EV.

—Tesla is also working on a similar camper attachment for its battery-powered pickup.

7 most PRESTIGIOUS & EXPENSIVE districts in (and near) Moscow

luxury aluminum travel trailers

1. Rublevka

luxury aluminum travel trailers

Rublevka, simply put, is Russia’s “Beverly Hills”: home to rich, famous, and influential Russians who live in luxury, hidden behind tall fences and walls. Technically, it is located outside Moscow, some 10 kilometers to the west via the Rublevo-Uspenskoe Highway, yet the area, and its residents, are nonetheless an integral part of Russia’s capital.

Officially, there is no such an administrative unit as Rublevka. Instead, the name of the area is a social construction, popularised in mass culture as a synonym of being filthy rich, as it is one of the most expensive residential areas in the world. It is also a play of words as – you know it – the ruble is the Russian currency.

In Tsarist Russia, nobility built homes here, only to be replaced by dachas of Lenin, Stalin, and other state officials after the Bolshevik Revolution. In Soviet times, famous scientists, artists, and writers — including Mstislav Rostropovich, Andrei Sakharov, Dmitry Shostakovich — had dachas in Rublevka. Today, Rublevka is inhabited by oligarchs, multi-millionaires, and all-powerful figures. The Russian President’s official residence is in Novo-Ogaryevo – not far from Rublevka.

Although Rublevka is considered the most famous luxury residential area in the immediate vicinity of Moscow, there are many other elite villages and areas in the Moscow Region, most of which are located to the west of the capital.

2. Ostozhenka and the ‘Golden Mile’

luxury aluminum travel trailers

The Golden Mile is an unofficial name for one of the most expensive residential areas in Moscow. It is a small piece of land where luxury real estate has been built. It is located between Ostozhenka Street and Prechistenskaya Embankment, a 10-15 minute walk from the Kremlin, with some of the buildings overlooking the Moscow River.

With prices up to $40,000 for a square meter, Ostozhenka is often listed among the most expensive streets in the world. Given that an average apartment there is around 240 square meters in size, the price tag for it can reach as high as $10 million or even more.

“[Before 1989], this area was abandoned, because of the planned construction of the Palace of the Soviets (which was to be built on the site of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour). The entire area was planned to be cleared to make possible the construction of a wide avenue leading to the Lenin Hills [currently known as Vorobyovy Gory],” says Alexander Skokan, an architect and a founder of the Ostozhenka Bureau.

However, the Palace of the Soviets was never built. Instead, luxury houses began to be erected there. Consequently, it may be hard to come by residents in this area, as most of the buildings have been bought for investment purposes.

3. Khamovniki

luxury aluminum travel trailers

Khamovniki is the official name of a district located in central Moscow. It starts from Aleksandrovskiy Sad next to the Kremlin and spreads across to the Luzhniki Stadium and Sparrow Hills (Vorobyovy Gory) in the western part of the city.

Historically, this is where weavers used to live, who were known as ‘Khamovniki’ in the 17th century. Hence, the name of this historic district.

Today, Khamovniki is one of the most popular areas of the Russian capital among apartment buyers. Yet, it’s also one of the most expensive districts in Moscow, where one square meter of apartment costs approximately $11,000; a price tag far beyond the average in Moscow.

The Moscow River, multiple parks and numerous metro stations make this elite district ecologically clean and also easily accessible from anywhere in the city. Pre-revolutionary houses, Soviet buildings and modern projects are available on this stretch of land. Among others, one of Russia’s greatest writers Leo Tolstoy owned an estate in Khamovniki in 1882 (which is now part of his family estate).

4. Yakimanka

luxury aluminum travel trailers

This is a neighboring district to Khamovniki, lying to the Southwest of the city center. Everyone who has ever been to Moscow knows Gorky Park, which covers most of the district’s territory. Yakimanka is one of the most stylish areas in Moscow and it is well known for its clubs, cocktail bars and cozy restaurants, as well as for the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Muzeon Park of Arts.

The district is also home to old factories built in the early 19th century. Most of these buildings have been rebuilt as offices. Elite real estate in this district may also cost up to $20,000 per square meter.

luxury aluminum travel trailers

This is another historic and luxurious district, craved by anyone who dreams of settling in Moscow. It stretches from the Moscow Kremlin on the west to the Moscow River in the east, with New Arbat Avenue being its major artery. Here, the famous Spaso House , the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Russia since 1933, is located, as well as other historical landmarks .

As in many other districts in Moscow, Arbat has it all when it comes to real estate: pre-revolutionary houses, Soviet buildings and modern luxury apartment blocks. An average price tag for a square meter of real estate here is $10,000. Yet, naturally, you can find much more expensive housing than that in the area.

6. ‘Presnya’

luxury aluminum travel trailers

The Presnensky district, as it is officially known, lies to the immediate north of the Arbat district. Although real estate here is generally not as expensive as in the above-mentioned districts, there are two especially affluent areas that make the average price tag skyrocket: Patriarch Ponds and the Moscow City business center, where the famous skyscrapers are located.

One square meter in one of the towers of the Moscow City business center can cost up to $20,000. Considering there are premium apartments that take a whole or even multiple levels, the final price can be extremely high.

7. Tverskoy, Meschansky, and Zamoskvorechye

Zamoskvorechye.

Zamoskvorechye.

These three districts — two to the north of the Kremlin and one to the south — are all affluent areas of the city. The State Duma and the Governor-General Building (which today is the Moscow Mayor's Office), among other important buildings, are located in Tverskoy district.

These three districts are similar to each other in the sense that they lack vacant land to make major new development projects possible. Instead, a relatively small number of offers is on the market. The average price of one square meter of housing in these areas amounts to $7,300.
