Wynonna spawned hits “No One Else on Earth,” “She is His Only Need” and “I Saw the Light,” while Tell Me Why produced beloved songs “Is it Over Yet,” the title track and others. The show will end with a finale of Judd performing some of her greatest hits from her solo career, as well as those from her legendary career as part of The Judds.

“Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me,” Judd shares in a press release. “Deep diving into my first two solo albums, Wynonna and Tell Me Why , track by track, will be a trip down memory lane. As I sit and listen to these two records, I’m flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life. The fans held me up and supported me through that season of change in 1992, and I now see ‘herstory’ repeating itself. This music healed me then and is healing me now. The circle of life continues.”

The tour begins on October 26 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and concludes on December 1 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Tickets go on sale to the public on August 25.

Back to Wy follows The Judds: The Final Tour that Wynonna spent 2022 and early 2023 traveling the country with following the death of her mother and bandmate, Naomi Judd, in April 2022. Along the way, she brought several special guests including Kelsea Ballerini, Ashley McBryde, Brandi Carlile and Martina McBride.

About Wynonna :

With the release of her 1992 self-titled solo debut, Wynonna emerged as a singular force in American music. Beyond the five Grammy Awards, the multi-platinum albums and sold-out tours, the country/soul vocalist built on the Appalachian traditionalism that defined The Judds to create a world where Top 5 dance/club hits were as possible as being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Having practically grown up as America’s favorite musical daughter, Wynonna matured into a woman who embraced how life is filled with peaks and valleys, great thrills, and heavy disappointment. Those realities informed her 5-times platinum Wynonna and nearing 3-times platinum Tell Me Why , the albums that gave voice to every human being emerging into their own adulthood with joy in their heart.

Beyond the groundbreaking music she and her mother created as The Judds, Wynonna has grown into her once-in-a-generation vocal prowess with an ease that made people clamor to her. “No One Else On Earth,” “Tell Me Why,” “She Is His Only Need,” “Girls With Guitars,” and “I Saw The Light” set the next chapter in motion of for the girl from Ashland, Kentucky who became a global superstar.

Wynonna Judd, often known as just Wynonna, is an American country singer from Ashland, Kentucky. Born in 1964, Wynonna first rose to fame as half of the musical duo The Judds, which saw the singer perform with her mother Naomi.

At the age of 19, Wynonna Judd teamed up with her mother to form the country powerhouse group The Judds. Signed to RCA Records, the pair released eight studio albums and had 14 number one hits between 1983 and 1991. During this era, The Judds were the biggest selling country duo in the United States and had fans in every city of every state.

In 1991 The Judds disintegrated and Wynonna set out in search of her own solo career. Signing with MCA, the singer-songwriter released her self-titled debut solo album in 1992. “Wynonna” shot to the number one spot on both the US and Canadian Country Music charts and the album hit the number four spot on the US Billboard 200 chart. The buzz and excitement around this first solo album was so great that it eventually went on to be certified five times platinum in the United States.

Wynnona’s six subsequent studio albums have all been just shy of matching the success of “Wynonna”, but “Tell Me Why” and “What the World Needs Now Is Love” both hit the top spot on the US Country music charts. Additionally, every single album Wynonna has released has been a top 40 hit in the United states and four – “Wynonna”, “Tell Me Why”, “Revelations” and “What the World Needs Now Is Love” – have all been top ten hits on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Wynonna has had four number one country singles since 1991 and she has also had ten top ten single releases. A keen collaborator, Wynonna has worked with the likes of Michael Bolton, Patti Labelle, Kenny Rogers and Dionne Warwick, amongst many others. Wynonna’s versatility has won her fans from all across the globe, and, due to this extensive fan base, the singer tours regularly to packed out crowds.

Live reviews

Wynonna puts on a good show. She covered some of The Judds songs, a few of her old hits and a few of her newer songs. Her husband's band The Big Noise opened for her before she came out there and then they played the music for her songs. I love her personality and sense of humor. She loves to talk and did talk quite a bit during the show between songs. She seemed very humble and really appreciates anyone who comes to see her. She is surprised that people still want to see her after all of these years. The music has held a special place in our hearts over the years. She took the flowers and notes that the fans had brought for her on the front row. She answered most all comments and questions said to her from the audience. Her voice is still just as good as it always was, although they may have to slow down the tempo of some songs for her now. I saw her sing with Christian metal band Stryper for their biggest hit To Hell with the Devil at their show last year. It was CMA night and Stryper had a different artist help them with that song at each show. I was surprised that Wynonna was willing to do it since it was such a different style from her own music. She said as she gets older, she is more willing to be crazier and try new things. This was the first show I had seen of her live at one of her own solo shows. I would definitely go see her again. Her husband Cactus Moser and her have such fun at her shows. He plays the drums very well since his motorcycle accident. He didn't let that keep his down. He lost his leg and half of his left hand, but you can't tell that the way he plays. She thinks one on one face to face is better and kind of doesn't like all the new technology these days taking away from the experience of life. Be in the moment and not far off away on your phones. She considered the concert a celebration of life and its good moments. She said Welcome to my celebration tonight.

Wynonna Judd is the fiery red headed American country music singer. She rocketed up to fame alongside her mother, Naomi in a county music duo named simply after their family name in the 80’s. Tonight it’s all about her solo career, where she will be performing a slew of her biggest hits to this country hungry audience ready to hear her amazing vocals and experience the splendour of her performances. She walks onto the stage with a guitar over her back, also with a harmonica at the ready. She opens with “She Is His Only Need”, the huge country ballad, which I’ll admit is a little bit of an odd starting song but nonetheless, it goes down a treat with this audience as you can tell from the length of time that the applause lasts for. Wynonna has consistently charts in the US Country charts over the years, her first three releases all making it to number one. That is what she really is about during this performance, which isn’t quite a comeback, it’s more of a celebration of everything that she has achieved up until this point, and goodness me it is a lot!

The show was exceptional! An intimate evening of stories, laughter and awesome music. We were disappointed it didn't last longer as we were enjoying it so much. The theater was perfect for the style of concert, but the seats in the balcony were made for children. Not enough legroom for even a very short person like me. If I have the chance to see Wynonna again, I will jump at it!

How Wynonna Judd’s ‘Judds Final Tour’ Resulted in a Celebratory, All-Star Concert Special… and a Doc That Deals With Grief

Filmmakers behind Paramount+'s 'Between Hell and Hallelujah' and CMT's 'Love Is Alive — The Final Concert' tell how two specials came out of a tour that had Wynonna joined by Brandi Carlile, Kelsea Ballerini, Ashley McBryde, Little Big Town and Martina McBride

judds Wynonna Judd, Brandi Carlile, Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini, Martina McBride, Ashley McBryde, performers on Wynonna Judd concert special

With the on-air premieres of the doc and concert special being spaced a few days apart, Judds fans don’t have to consume them both in one fell swoop, but the biggest devotees of the history-making mother/daughter duo may well make a “Girls Night Out” binge out of the two programs anyway.

No one will be punished for picking their own viewing order, but CMT’s Margaret Comeaux, one of the executive producers of the concert film, suggests starting with the doc and saving the live show for dessert. “I think that’s probably the preferred order,” Comeaux says, “because I think the story that the doc is telling of the whole year leads us to the final story we’re telling in the concert special, with the culmination in Murfreesboro.” That’s the Tennessee city where Judd and all the guest stars who appeared along last fall’s tour routing converged for a show that was meant to more or less recreate the Judds’ famous original farewell concert back in 1991, shot on the same stage.

Both projects will prove enticing not just to fans of the Judds but to followers of the performers who are seen joining Wynonna as co-frontwomen: Brandi Carlile , Kelsea Ballerini, Martina McBride, Ashley McBryde, Faith Hill and Little Big Town. (Make that co-frontwomen and -frontmen in the case of the latter co-ed vocal quartet.)

Says Jason Owen , the head of Nashville media powerhouse Sandbox Entertainment and an exec producer on both projects: “I’m being honest when I say I could not have done this tour without her. I mean, she was a confidante. She and I talked through a lot as we were talking through songs and making sure everyone was healthy and happy. And her energy is just infectious. From the very beginning, she felt very strongly that Wynonna should do the tour, and she was very vocal about that with all of us. And we all started building this idea of the tour with a guest (each night) off of Brandi, and that’s how it started. But throughout the process, she was there. It was very important for me that she be the first guest — and it was very important to me — because I knew that she cared so much about the music and cared so much about Wynonna. Not that all of them did not, because they did, but she was like a beacon, and wanted to make sure everything was really right and perfect for Wy, mostly musically.”

Even before Naomi died and plans changed in the biggest possible way, there had always been a plan to film a documentary about what had been booked as the Judds’ second farewell tour. Owens’ Sandbox had hooked up with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine — specifically Sara Rea, who runs the unscripted division — at about the time the Judds appeared on the 2022 CMT Music Awards to sing “Love Will Build a Bridge” and promote the coming reunion tour.

After Naomi died, virtually everything that had been planned went on — including the filming projects — albeit always with a check-in to Wynonna and her team to make sure they were on board, and with obvious constant acknowledgements of the void at the center of things, or at a half-center. Unforgettably, Wynonna showed up to accept the duo’s Country Music Hall of Fame medallion at a ceremony just two days after the death. At a musical memorial televised by CMT from the Ryman Auditorium, Wynonna announced the tour would go on, with Carlile — a key duet partner at the eulogistic event — seen in the third row literally leaning forward in her seat with enthusiasm for the idea.

Probably the most talked-about scene comes mid-tour, when deepening anxiety about staging issues leads Wynonna to get on an emergency Zoom call with her therapist to deal with the real underlying issues. She says that every time she drives by her mother’s house, which is often, she flashes back to the day she was called over, and the traumatic imagery of being in the room with her dying mom. Her biggest regret, she says feistily, is that she didn’t punch the cop who held her back from kissing her mother before she passed, and that it was only after Naomi was declared dead that she was able to kiss her on the forehead.

“That was a hard day of filming,” says Patty Ivins Specht, the director of the “Between Hell and Hallelujah” doc. “It was a fascinating day, because that (therapy session) was not scheduled. She woke up that day and sincerely needed to have a session with David Kessler for her grief therapy because she was just feeling it so deeply. First of all, the entire crew is crying on some level, because it’s very emotional to listen to somebody relive their worst day of their life. And then it was another moment where she went into that very personal trauma of replaying the driving over (to the house), every time. She’s like, ‘I just can’t stop that loop in my brain.’ Sometimes when you’re making a movie like this, it is such a trust fall, and Wy just trusted that we were gonna capture the process and was free with how she felt, and I think everyone in the room filming it feels that responsibility when someone trusts you with their vulnerability.

“I look at that scene and she’s a woman who’s legitimately in a painful hour in time and she’s asking for help. And she’s kind of trying to ignore that these cameras are here. But watching somebody model processing their grief is also really empowering, because in our society, we don’t talk about death. You do the funeral, you move along, and then you still live with that grief for years. And so I think in a powerful way, her modeling how she’s processing this grief is really one of the gifts of this film.”

The anxiety for Judd comes about in a somewhat symbolic way, at first, starting with the very practical matter of the artist having difficulty with the opening gambit of the tour. She would be snuck out each night in a rolling equipment cabinet to start each concert on a “B stage,” apart from the band or any guests back on the main stage — and, in some kind of deeply Freudian way, separated from the union with her mother that the main stage represents. It doesn’t help that Judd is described by others as being more claustrophobic than anyone else they know even on an elevator.

As for capturing Wynonna’s first visit to her mother’s home after the tragedy, says Ivins Specht, “It illustrates this thing that happens with Wynonna, where I think she has this kind of unspoken contract with her fans that she just gives it up. Because even when she said yes to us, that we could go with her that day, I mean, we weren’t so sure she’d say yes, but no, she was all for it. … The sensitive thing is, leading with your intuition a little bit in those times, but really our job is to always ask. That actually is our job, to ask — in humility and kindness — to ask the uncomfortable questions all the time. There’s so much give and take, and she gives so much. There’s a moment (in the film) where she goes, ‘OK, I think I did it.’ Like, ‘That’s all I can do today.’ But she generally tries to say yes, and then she’ll find a boundary at some point.”

One reason Owen bonded so well with Carlile is that he, too, was a Judds megafan since childhood. He will allow that a VHS tape of the 1991 Judds farewell special was one of his most prized, if not worn-out, possessions. (Naomi Judd said that she was retiring at the time, after their run of ’80s smashes, because of her hepatitis-C diagnosis, although she participated in short or one-off reunions over the following three decades.) That farewell show had been filmed at Middle Tennessee State University, and it was Owen’s idea to recreate the show back at that original site — though it was not the original plan.

“I remember Margaret and I having a phone conversation as we were trying to plan this concert special,” Owen recalls, “and the original plan was that we were going to do it in Lexington, Kentucky,” where the last show was to take place on the original fall 2022 tour routing. “Kentucky made sense because they were obviously from Kentucky, and that was where we were going to wrap the tour. We had blocked off seating for it, we had done camera holds, we did everything. Long story short, Wynonna wanted to continue the tour and continue to do another run of dates,” which would extend the actual finale to months down the line. “And then, with Margaret and I brainstorming on the phone, I said, ‘What if we do it there, at MTSU?’ Within eight hours, we had that.. … At the college, there was tons of faculty and people that worked there for a long period of time that were all there when they shot that special, believe it or not. And when we pitched them on this idea, they went through every hoop imaginable to make sure it happened.

It wasn’t just Carlile among the guests who was able to have an emotional impact on Judd. Comeaux remembers a spontaneous moment in rehearsal, captured in the doc, when Faith Hill began serenading Judd on stage with an a cappella version of “You Are Not Alone,” with the band eventually joining in. The documentary crew was on the opposite side of the venue, filming an interview with Tim McGraw, but they had made contingency plans to leave one camera near the star at all times, and a producer was able to pick it up and capture the moment. “Wy, at the beginning of every show, is very much in a zone of ‘I want to service all the fans who are coming,’ and as anyone is, you’re in game mode — you’ve gotta see the vision of the end. And so when Faith begins this beautiful rendition, I mean, everybody on stage had a lump in their throat, and Wynonna pulls out a funny and says, ‘Don’t you ever do that again.’ But it’s a beautiful moment in the movie.”

But it’s hard to overstate Carlile’s impact, even on the tour dates that came after her initial appearance at the first ones. Says Ivins Specht, “At the kickoff concert, it was one day of load-in, a little bit of rehearsal that late afternoon into the evening, and then the next day was another rehearsal, and then the first show was that Friday night. So it’s Thursday, 4 or 5 o’clock, and it’s a big freaking day — stressful, everything’s getting built, and things aren’t coming together as quickly as possible, as with every production you ever work on.” Owen concurs, “That first weekend of shows was very stressful. Things go wrong. We have to change things; I’m yelling at some lighting guy. It’s tough.”

And then, says the director, “I can tell you, the moment Team Brandi rolled in, Wy was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna be good.’ Like, ‘I have Brandi on stage. She’s as invested in this being a success for me, as an individual woman, as she is for all the fans who love the Judds so much.’ And I think the planning of Brandi being first is kind of an unspoken tribute to why this is such a success. It transcended being about all the anxiety around what Wynonna was about to do, and it went back to the place of celebration and joy, and Brandi helped Wy access that peace in herself. That’s what I witnessed.” Adds Owen, “She helped me too, honestly, because I was very emotional through it, because I cared so much and it was such a rollercoaster of a year. Again, I really would say wholeheartedly, I could not have done this without her.”

“I have a petition to get her to the Greek” in Los Angeles, says Comeaux. “I want to see Wynonna at the Greek.”

Maybe that will happen eventually, but not under this banner. “There’s nothing (further) scheduled for that,” Owen says. “I think that that was the end of the Judds tour. Unfortunately for all of us.”

Wynonna Judd is honoring mom Naomi’s legacy with her ‘Final Tour’

Wynonna Judd is going to honor her late mother, Naomi Judd, on her upcoming tour, “The Judds: The Final Tour."

Wynonna Judd, 57, initially had been scheduled to embark on the tour with her mother, who died by suicide  April 30, one day before she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as a member of The Judds.

In honor of her mother's legacy, Wynonna Judd has decided to continue with the tour and pay homage to Naomi Judd by inviting some big country music stars to participate.

Various artists will take the stage during the tour to help Wynonna Judd perform songs by The Judds.

So far, Brandi Carlile, Faith Hill, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Ashley McBryde and Trisha Yearwood are scheduled to be on the roster. More singers are set to be announced at a later time.

McBride will kick off select dates of the tour with her own set.

The shows will be held at 11 arenas around the United States this fall. The tour will begin in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Sept. 30 and end in The Judds' home state of Kentucky on Oct. 29.

In a press release, Wynonna Judd thanked her fans for all of the support they've given her and her family over the years.

“I am humbled, once again, by the loyalty of the fans who have been with us for 38+ years, who continue to show up for me when I need them the most," she said. "I am grateful that we will continue to honor The Judds legacy, together."

Larry Strickland, the husband of Naomi Judd, said in the same press release, “I am so happy that in this time of grief for us all, Wynonna has agreed to move forward with this tour as my sweet wife Naomi would have wanted her to do.”

While appearing on the CMT special  “Naomi Judd: A River of Time Celebration” last Sunday night, Wynonna Judd explained why she didn't want to cancel “The Final Tour" despite her mother's death.

“I made a decision and I thought I’d share it on national television. That after a lot of thought, I’m going to have to honor her and do this tour. I’m just going to have to,” she said. “Because that’s what you would want, and Bono once told me give them what they want, not what you want.”

Song Suffragettes celebrates 10 years with Wynonna, female country chart-toppers, more

The 10th-anniversary event at belmont university's fisher center celebrated nashville's song suffragettes songwriting collective featured wynonna judd.

does wynonna judd still tour

Headline performer Wynonna Judd wasn't the only woman who received a standing ovation or sang a multi-platinum chart-topping song on country radio at Wednesday evening's 10th-anniversary event celebrating Nashville's female-empowering Song Suffragettes songwriting collective.

Yes, the crowd at Belmont University's Fisher Center sang along to songwriter Trannie Anderson's performance of the work she did alongside another Song Suffragettes performer from years prior, Lainey Wilson, on the 2022 No. 1 country radio hit "Heart Like A Truck." They sang along as well to Maddie and Tae's 2014 "Girl In A Country Song" and "2019's "Die From A Broken Heart," chart-toppers separated by five years.

They were roused to their feet as well -- as crowds are regularly on NBC's "America's Got Talent" and has been the case over a dozen times so far at the Grand Ole Opry -- by Mississippi-born family trio Chapel Hart's take on The Judds' "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days)."

Given that the initiative's songwriting rounds began a decade ago at Nashville's Listening Room Cafe and continue to the present day, it's an impressive evolution.

An impressive evolution

The mid-2010s arrived with roughly three female artists being played every two hours on country radio and women being referred to as garnishes in the metaphorical salad of the genre's superstar options.

Back then, Song Suffragettes founder Todd Cassetty was a well-respected music industry, tech and trade organization executive with a background in digital marketing, artist management and television production who developed an all-female songwriting round to help women "stand together in the face of systemic gender-disparity in the music industry" and provide "women singer-songwriters a place to be heard and seen with the hope that more opportunities would come from that exposure," he offered via a press statement.

Roughly 10 percent of the 400 artists who have appeared on the Song Suffragettes stage in the past decade attended the Fisher Center on Wednesday evening. Names like Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, Kelsea Ballerini, Brittney Spencer and Megan Moroney were absent.

However, because of their involvement in programs like Song Suffragettes or CMT's Next Women of Country, they have developed careers that have allowed them to tour globally or be amid album cycles promoting a dozen albums, No. 1 Billboard Country Airplay singles and critically acclaimed work between them.

However, pop star GAYLE and another country chart-topper, Tenille Arts, were there, alongside Hall of Fame and Grammy-nominated songwriters Liz Rose and Laura Veltz.

GAYLE's success with her 2022 single "abcdefu" led to her recent touring work with artists like P!nk and Taylor Swift, whose renown in female-empowered creative circles is peerless. Moreover, in April 2021, Tenille Arts' "Someboy Like That" hit No. 1 on Mediabase's Country Aircheck chart. It gave her the first No. 1 for a Canadian artist on the countdown in a dozen years and the first country chart-topper ever written, recorded and performed solely by women.

Wynonna Judd offers deep, frank conversation, performances

Wynonna Judd also participated in an onstage Q&A with Apple Music Radio host Kelleigh Bannen. She then performed an intimate trio of hits -- and a new song, "Flying High," from a promised forthcoming album -- alongside her husband, Cactus Moser and an acoustic band.

While in conversation, Judd jokingly referred to herself as a "recovering entertainer" who has only "[known] music best" for the past four decades of her life onstage. It's via that light that her entire career, including the past two years spent living through her mother, Naomi's, tragic suicide one day before she and Wynonna's Country Music Hall of Fame induction, seem even more daunting.

She revealed that she was suffering from vertigo and "failed, while still great," while performing with Jelly Roll at 2023's Country Music Association Awards. Her conversation blended bravery, honesty and frankness with a perpetual awareness of the expanse and impact of a career that, over two decades, saw her sell as many records as a duo as she did as a solo act.

That, alongside her still-robust vocal guiding "What It Takes," "Love Is Alive" and "Love Can Build A Bridge" (as performed with an all-female version of gospel favorites The Issacs, plus all of the event's performers and every Song Suffragette performer in the building who had graced the Listening Room Cafe stage in the past decade) were also notable.

As an event closer, Wynonna's work offered a through-line between female artists' eras of dominance and the potential of a similarly well-defined future ahead.
