What visitors say.
If you have not been here before you don’t know what you are missing. The staff, exhibits and hospitality are FANTASTIC! You get the opportunity to get up close and personnel with the animals. From feeding the giraffe’s, hanging out in the bird enclosure and mining for jewels in the sluice box there’s truly something for all ages!! Thanks for an amazing afternoon!!!
Garrett Freeman
Great to have a zoo around the area. That stands out. with how nice they are to their animals and the variety of animals. I am a big fan of this place lot better than driving really far to go to a mediocre Zoo when there is an awesome one right in town.
Brent Shepard
First time here and it was amazing! The animals are all beautiful, fat and healthy. The enclosures are beautiful and they bring you right up close to animals. It’s took us 3 hours to walk through and it flew by! Beautiful landscaping, clean and spacious. Seen animals I have never heard of before. Highly recommend!
Julie Gower
I went to Safari North for the first time today with family and friends ranged in age from 13 to 67. All of us had a great time. I was especially pleased that all the animals looked healthy and all the habitats were clean. Very nice place.

Walt Disney’s vision was that you can get the ride anywhere — it’s the cast member that keeps them coming back. The way you are treated — the people you meet make the difference. From the moment we entered Lake Tobias, there was an immediate connection with the public (from the girl that greeted us on the road and all through the park). The Safari Tour at Lake Tobias was much better than Disney World’s — the whole experience was fantastic. Lake Tobias is the 'Old Disney.' It’s the way Disney used to be — it’s what a theme park should be.

See hundreds of exotic animals and have lunch or dinner at this new MS safari park
'it's really geared toward everybody because we have things for young kids and adults. so, there's something for everyone.'.
Want to take a ride and see hundreds of exotic animals? How about hold a fennec fox or a lemur ? What about dine with a view of peacocks walking around and swans in a pond?
Well, you can do all those things and more at Little Creek Landing Safari Park .
The new park is located in West Hattiesburg and is home to hundreds of exotic animals. It's an experience geared toward all ages and it's the product of a lifelong love of animals.
Joy Thurman Wallace said the seed for the park was planted long ago. Her mother had a love of animals and shared it with Wallace's son, Chris Thurman, who started and owns the safari park.
Hummingbird migration: How to attract hundreds to your yard per day this fall
A lifelong love of animals
"My mother had a love of animals," Wallace said. "As a little boy, they would buy and sell animals."
Wallace said her mother's and son's business of buying, selling and raising animals was known as The Critter Farm and it was the genesis of the safari park.
"Back then we did a little of everything," Thurman said. "We did more domestics than exotics — more farm animal stuff back then."
'It was huge.' Mississippi man finds rare mammoth tusk, first in the state
Mississippi safari park has more than 300 animals including some oddities
However, over time, Thurman's interests shifted.
"I always liked the unusual," Thurman said. "As I got older, I got into exotics."
Thurman's collection grew to over 300 animals, and the park offers the public an opportunity to experience them. Guests will see species such as zebras, camels, antelope, ostrich and kangaroos. There are also some very unusual animals. Thurman said guests can see a white bison, a blond water buffalo and a white emu.
He even has a few endangered species he raises at the park.
"It helps the species survive," Thurman said.
'I was amazed by it.' Rattlesnakes fighting captured on video in Mississippi
Take a tour and have lunch or dinner at his safari park
Guests can tour the park with a guide while they ride on a wagon called a "people mover" pulled by a tractor. The tour takes roughly 30 minutes and feed can be purchased to feed animals along the way. There is also a self-guided walking tour of the property.
There is also a petting area as well as special hands-on experiences where guests can hold, touch or feed animals such a fennec fox, a lemur, a macaw and lorikeets.
Guests with an appetite are welcome, too.
The park features a restaurant the serves a cafe-style lunch and fine dining dinners on Friday and Saturday nights. Restaurant guests on Friday and Saturday nights receive a discount on the admission price to the park area if they want to take a tour, too.
"It's really geared toward everybody because we have things for young kids and adults," Thurman said. "So, there's something for everyone."

Woman nearly bitten by tiger after climbing over fence at New Jersey zoo
Police are looking for a woman who climbed over a barrier surrounding a tiger enclosure at a zoo in New Jersey before she approached the big cats and put a hand through a metal fence, narrowly avoiding being bitten.
Bridgeton police said they wanted to speak to the woman after video of her inside the enclosure at Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton emerged. The police department released the video Tuesday; it is unclear when the incident took place.
"A female at the Cohanzick Zoo went over the wooden fence at the tiger enclosure and began enticing the tiger almost getting bit by putting her hand through the wire enclosure," police said in a statement on Facebook. "We are asking if anyone recognizes the female in the video/photo."
The video shows the woman climbing over a wooden fence designed to keep visitors away from the tigers before she goes right up the tall metal fence and places her hand through a small gap, apparently in an attempt to pet the enormous animal.
The tiger quickly moves its jaws toward her, forcing her to swiftly remove her hand and step away. She stops and poses, as if someone else is taking a photograph, before she climbs back over the wooden enclosure.
Police said: "Reminder to the public when visiting the zoo that it is against City Ordinance to climb over any fence."
Anyone with information is urged to call Patrolman Cusano at 856-451-0033, extension 0, or send anonymous tips to BPD.TIPS.
The incident is similar to one at the Bronx Zoo in New York in 2019, when a woman climbed into the lion enclosure and stood feet away from one of the lions , appearing to taunt it.

'Gay animals more common than you would think'
A keeper at a safari park which has a gay penguin couple and a "throuple" of Lorikeets has said same sex animals developing relationships are more common than people might think.
Vicky McFarlane, a keeper at West Midlands Safari Park, spoke about the park's gay wildlife residents after news broke of the death of a world-famous gay penguin in Australia.
Ms McFarlane said the site, in Bewdley, had a couple of male Humboldt penguins, called Arnie and Frodo, who had been a couple since 2020.
They also have a "throuple" of rainbow lorikeets, consisting of two males and a female.
Ms McFarlane said the female lorikeet lays the eggs, which are then looked after by the two males.
"They seem to work everything out in their own little way. They know what works for them," she said.
When asked about gay animals, the keeper said: "It's surprisingly more common than you would think.
"I believe they do form an emotional bond, especially for penguins and lorikeets. They're monogamous, they mate for life.
"So there is a courtship, they will flirt, see who takes their fancy and once they're settled down with that couple, they're joined at the hip and they're very much what I'd consider in love."
Ms McFarlane said the animals were left to their own devices to find a mate.
"They do find these loves all on their own, we just sit back and keep an eye on them and check everyone's behaving."
On the other end of the spectrum, while penguins and lorikeets appear to be monogamous at the safari park, sea lions are a very different story.
"One male can have 35 girlfriends a year. They keep themselves quite busy, [it] sounds exhausting," Ms McFarlane said.
