Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Chennai for two days (July 28-29) to inaugurate the 44th International Chess Olympiad on Thursday and attend the Anna University convocation on Friday. A five-tier security ring will be in place ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, police said on Tuesday.

PM Modi will reach Chennai from Ahmedabad on Thursday evening.

PM Modi’s Full Schedule PM Modi will reach Chennai Airport at 4.45 PM on Thursday. From Chennai Airport, PM Modi will fly in a helicopter to INS Adyar Helipad. At 5.50 PM, he will start his travel to Jawaharlal Nehru stadium to attend the FIDE Chess Olympiad inauguration.

At 6 pm, Modi is expected to reach the stadium and attend the inauguration of 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad till 7.30 pm. Then PM is expected to leave by road to Raj Bhavan for a night halt.

On Friday, PM Modi will then leave Raj Bhavan at 9.55 am for Anna University. From 10 am, he will preside over the 42nd Convocation of Anna University and then will leave for Chennai Airport.

Strict surveillance and monitoring are expected to be in place in various areas that the PM will be visiting, including the venues for the two events.

The Security Arrangements Commissioner of Police Shankar Jiwal reviewed the security arrangements and a five-tier security ring will be in place, with 22,000 police personnel on duty, including senior officials, a city police press release said.

Lodges and hotels were being checked to monitor the possible movement of suspicious persons, it said.

Further, under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC), the police prohibited flying of objects like microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, gas-filled balloons, small-sized powered aircraft and para-jumping, on July 28 and 29, "in connection with the security measures" ahead of Modi's visit.

Chennai: In a big milestone in India’s nuclear power programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will oversee the initiation of core loading of India’s indigenous Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam, Chennai on Monday. The reactor has been in the making for over 20 years and has now reached the ‘attaining criticality’ stage. This will be PM’s second visit to Tamil Nadu in less than a week.

According to Prime Minister Modi’s itinerary, Modi will reach Chennai airport at 2.50pm. From there, he will go to Kalpakkam by helicopter. PM Modi will visit the Kalpakkam reactor development project. After this, he will attend a public meeting held on behalf of the BJP at Chennai YMCA Nandanam around 5pm. The alliance partners of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to join the public rally.

Due to PM’s visit to the city, security has been strengthened in and around Chennai. Roadblocks have been set up and vehicles have been checked since last night. Besides, traffic on major roads, including Annasalai, the main road of Chennai, has been restricted for vehicular movement from noon until night today.

Greater Chennai City Police have put in place elaborate security arrangements with the deployment of 15,000 personnel in five layers in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai on Monday. Security measures are being taken up in the adjoining Chengalpattu district also.

Traffic diversions in Chennai in view of PM’s visit  

Chennai Traffic Police have also issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Accordingly, vehicle movement has been restricted on Madhya Kailash, in and around Kathipara, Guindy, Anna Salai, Teynampet, and Nandanam, between 12 noon and 8pm. Heavy to very heavy traffic congestion is expected on Annasalai road as PM will be addressing a gathering at YMCA Nandanam this evening.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Hyderabad and Chennai on 26 May 2022. At around 2 PM, Prime Minister will participate in the celebration of completion of 20 years of ISB Hyderabad and address the graduation ceremony of Post Graduate Programme (PGP) Class of 2022. At around 5:45 PM, Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of 11 projects worth over Rs 31,500 crore at JLN Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

In a step towards boosting infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity and giving an impetus to ease of living in the region, Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of 11 projects worth over Rs 31,500 crore in Chennai. These projects will also help significantly improve socio-economic prosperity in the region, have a transformative impact on several sectors and also help create employment opportunities.

In Chennai, Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation five projects worth over Rs 2960 crore. The 75 km long Madurai-Teni (Railway Gauge Conversion Project), built at a project cost of over Rs. 500 crore, will facilitate access and give a boost to tourism in the region. The 30 km long third railway line between Tambaram – Chengalpattu, built at a project cost of over Rs. 590 crore, will facilitate running of more Suburban services, thus offering greater options and enhancing comfort for the travellers.

The 115 km long Ennore-Chengalpattu section and 271 km long Thiruvallur-Bengaluru section of ETBPNMT natural gas pipeline, built at a project cost of around Rs. 850 crore and Rs 910 crore respectively, will facilitate supply of natural gas to consumers as well industries in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The programme will also witness inauguration of 1152 houses constructed as part of Light House Project – Chennai, built at a cost of Rs 116 crore under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban.

Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of six projects, being built at a cost of over Rs. 28,540 crore.

The 262 Km long Bengaluru – Chennai Expressway will be built at a cost of over Rs. 14,870 crore. It will pass-through states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and help reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai by 2-3 hours. The 4 Lane double decker elevated road connecting Chennai Port to Maduravoyal (NH-4), of about 21 Km in length, will be built at a cost of over Rs 5850 crore. It will facilitate round the clock approach of goods vehicles to Chennai port. The ​​94 km long 4 lane Neraluru to Dharmapuri section of NH-844 and 31 km long 2 lane with paved shoulders of Meensurutti to Chidambaram section of NH-227, being built at a cost of around Rs 3870 crore and Rs 720 respectively, will help provide seamless connectivity in the region.

The foundation stones for redevelopment of five Railway stations: Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanniyakumari, will also be laid during the programme. This project will be completed at a cost of over Rs. 1800 crore, and is being undertaken with a view to enhance convenience and comfort of the passengers through provision of modern amenities.

Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a Multi Modal Logistic Park at Chennai worth around Rs. 1430 crore. It will provide seamless intermodal freight movement and also offer multiple functionalities.

Prime Minister will participate in the celebration of completion of 20 years of Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad and address the graduation ceremony of Post Graduate Programme (PGP) Class of 2022. ISB was inaugurated on 2 December 2001, by Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Regarded as one of the top B-schools in the country, ISB also collaborates with several Ministries and Departments of the Government to provide training and capacity building.

CHENNAI:  A five-tier security arrangement will be in place, with the deployment of 26,000 police personnel, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Chennai on April 8.

The city police said over 22,000 personnel will be deployed. Intense security checks are being conducted at Chennai Airport, Central station, Vivekananda House, Raj Bhavan, and INS Adyar Helipad. City police commissioner Shankar Jiwal issued an order under section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting the flying of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Tambaram city police commissioner A Amalraj said over 4,000 personnel will be deployed for security. Flying of unmanned aerial vehicles and drones is prohibited for five days, from Wednesday to Sunday, in Tambaram city police limits and Chengalpattu district.

PM Modi is expected to arrive at 2:30 pm on Saturday and will inaugurate the new integrated terminal building of Chennai airport. At 4 pm, he will flag off Vande Bharat Express at Central railway station and participate in the 125th anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Math in Mylapore. At 6 30 pm, he will inaugurate various projects at Alstom cricket ground, Pallavaram.

Director General of Police C Sylendra Babu reviewed the security arrangements on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several infrastructure projects, including the state-of-the-art integrated terminal building set up at a total outlay of Rs 2,437 crore at the Chennai airport, upon his arrival in the state on Saturday.

Security has been increased across the city in view of the visit while motorists have been asked to plan ahead of their journey to reach their destination as elaborate traffic diversions have been made, police said.

"This will be an important addition to Chennai's infrastructure. It will boost connectivity and also benefit the local economy," PM Modi had said in a tweet.

According to Chennai airport officials, the new integrated terminal is spread across 2.20 lakh sq metres and would cater to the growing air traffic in Tamil Nadu.

The terminal is also a reflection of the government's commitment towards providing high-quality infrastructure to travellers, they said.

"With the annual passenger handling capacity of 35 million passengers, the modern facility at the Chennai Airport will improve air travel experiences for all," the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.

The terminal is equipped with 108 immigration counters which are split equally between arrival and departure areas. It would significantly enhance the travel experience for passengers by expediting the transit process, it said.

Besides the inauguration of the integrated new terminal, PM Modi will flag off the Vande Bharat train between Chennai and Coimbatore at the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M G R Central Railway Station here.

Southern Railway has planned to operate the high-speed Vande Bharat express train between the two cities on all days except Wednesdays.

The train would ply at a speed of 130 kmph reaching the destination on both sides in about 5.50 hours thereby saving 1.20 hours journey time compared to express trains, Southern Railway said.

Later, PM Modi would take part in the 125th annual day celebrations of Ramakrishna Mutt at Vivekanandhar Illam on the arterial Kamarajar Salai (Beach Road) and also inaugurate infrastructure projects at Pallavaram.

Slow traffic movement is likely to be from INS Adyar to Central Railway Station and from Central Railway Station to Vivekanandar Illam between 3 pm to 6 pm.

CHENNAI: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Chennai on Saturday to attend of the inauguration ceremony of new airport terminal, flagging off of Vande Bharat Express train at central Railway station among other events, Chennai City Police has cautioned motorists and vehicle users of slow traffic movement on roads leading to event venues.

During the visit of the Prime Minister at Vivekanandar Illam, incoming vehicles from Light House will be diverted at Gandhi statue to RK Salai. From there, they can take right turn at Natesan Road junction towards Ice House, Ratna Cafe, Triplicane High Road-Walajah road junction to Labour Statue or Anna Salai.

Outgoing vehicles coming from war memorial will be diverted at Labour Statue to Walajah Road towards Anna Salai or at Triplicane High road-Walajah Road junction. If needed vehicles may be diverted from War memorial to Flag Staff Road towards Anna salai through Walajah point. This diversion will be effected in evening hours, from 4 pm to 6 pm.

For commercial vehicles, the diversion will be effected from 2 pm to 8 pm intermittently.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed from Anna Arch to Muthusamy point on both the directions.

On Poonamallee High Road incoming direction, commercial vehicles will be diverted at Anna Arch towards Anna Nagar, New Avadi Road to reach their destination.

On outgoing direction, all commercial vehicles from NRT New Bridge will be diverted towards Stanley round about, Mint junction, Moolakothalam junction, Basin Bridge top, Vyasarpadi to reach their destination.

The commercial vehicles from Hunters Road will be diverted at Hunters Road, EVK Sampath Road to reach EVR Salai outgoing direction and diverted towards Nair Point.

The commercial vehicles will be diverted at Gandhi Irwin top towards Udupi point to reach EVR Salai.

Goods vehicle will be diverted at Greenways Point towards Mandhaveli.

In view of the heightened security, the Marina stretch from Labour Statue to Vivekanandar Illam will be subjected to increased scrutiny, checking and frisking. Motorists are therefore advised to plan their journey accordingly to reach their destination, an official release stated.
